SakuSaku Flakerie: what do users think?

Kate S: My favorite place in DC for croissants—so flaky and yummy. They have so many innovative sweet and savory ones. The key lime cruffin is divine if you can get one. They seem to run out fast. I live a block away and have only been able to snag one once on my weekly visit. That is a croissant in the shape of a muffin with key lime inside and meringue on top. The almond croissant is also very good. I didn’t like the curry meat bun or cheesecake soufflé that much. Today I bought the strawberry tiramisu cruffin which was very good.

Austin Graff: Along Cleveland Park's main street is a small bakery that sells Japanese-French pastries like strawberry cream rolls and pina colada cruffins. Run by a husband-wife team, there's often a line. Here's why you should go: 1) Food: Their menu often rotates with seasonal pastries, but you can always find some basics like croissants (plain, pistachio chocolate, chocolate, etc.). Many of their pastries use Japanese-inspired flavors like their matcha white chocolate chip cookie. 2) Drinks: They have a drink menu, including coffee items. 3) Space: It's a tiny space. Due to the pandemic, they ask one customer/party at a time, which can cause a line. Next door is an outdoor patio inside Al Volo that is open for Saku Saku customers during the day. It's a great spot to work from or meet with friends. 4) Service: The staff are kind and proud of what they have created (as they should be). When I was there, a man was very upset by the line and the staff handled it with grace.

dipika: omg. My only issue with SakuSaku is that it's not closer to me. The croissants are inventive and next level flaky. The buns are super flavorful. The drinks are perfectly made without too much of any taste. The garden patio is beautifully decorated and maintained and the whole experience is perfect for any social gathering. Love. LOVE!

P Ak: The plain croissant needed more time in the oven. Chocolate croissant texture was good but the chocolate was on the sweet side. Almond croissant was the winner of the bunch. Update Valentine’s Day heart pastry was a rose lychee combo. A bit dense and pricy at $8. Pain au Chocolat was good but the plain croissant was OK. The kouign amann with yuzu was pretty good. Pistachio croissant needed a bit more pistachios. Update The mushroom Danish was good but it needed a bit more cooking. The ham and cheese Danish was ok. The Japanese cheese cake was good.

Hessa Al Maian: I am in love with the secret garden!! Right in the heart of DC this lovely place offers a nice seating area at the back patio. A nice spot for relaxing or meeting with a friend. Didn't get a chance to try the zatar croissant but the spinach/feta was goooood

Roo G: Highly recommended! Contacted them via Instagram from the UK to arrange a birthday cake for my husband, as we were going to be staying locally. Reply was swift and they were friendly and helpful in giving me options and pricing, and were flexible when I asked to change something. The cake itself did not disappoint, an absolutely delicious chocolate raspberry layer cake. We also visited twice during our trip to indulge in their delicious pastries, and certainly plan to return on our next visit to DC. We sampled the chocolate almond croissant, lemon & blueberry cake and the banana caramel cruffin. Everything was fresh and delicious!

Audrey D: If you love flakey pastries, SakuSaku Flakerie will not disappoint. They offer light, sweet, and savory treats. The coffee was also great. I will definitely be coming back, since this is now my favorite place in DC to get pastries 🤤

Nguyen Le: Amazing hidden germs in the heart of Washington DC. The owner and their employees are super friendly and hospitality. You cannot go wrong with any croissant that they have available. It is super "flakerie" and crunchy, my personal favorite is Chocolate Almond Croissant pair with a Match Latte for a cold winter month or a Pistachio Croissant pair with SakaSaku Sparking Lemonade for a hot day in summer. Oh did i mentioned that they have the best Japanese Soufflé Cheesecake reminded me of the one i had in Japan. in Summary SakuSaku will make you want to return back. Thank you Saku Saku team for a wonderful brunch experience

Adam Kapp: The lemon ginger cookie and the gluten free scone were both very good. I also liked the za'atar and cheese croissant. Overall, I was a little disappointed in the selection. I was expecting more interesting and unusual flavors. Other than the croissant, most of these items are things you would find at any bakery in DC. Update: apparently a lot of the more interesting items sell out early in the morning? I wish you could order these items online for pick up.

Johnny Dubbaneh: Their savory and sweet pastries are amazing! Had the Truffle Mushroom, Ham & Cheese, Za’atar & Gruyère - all so delicious. Kouign Amman and almond croissants also so good

Kogibow Bakery: what do users think?

Erringer Helbling: Incredible experience. Highly recommend if you want something local and delicious. He did a wonderful job making the most beautiful and deliciously light cake for my husband’s dinner party.

Daljit Kaur Grewal: Sooooo good. Ordered a tres leches cake with Bavarian cream for a 24th birthday. The cake was incredibly moist, light, and delicious, and so beautifully decorated with fruits. 8” was more than enough and very affordable at $25. I wish I could’ve left a tip. (Candles purchased separately)

Vincent Honn: Seen this Sign with a phone # on it in a Movie called" How Do You Know" while Reece Witherspoon was walking in front of it.... so had to Google the # ....lol!

Nata Portillo: Great Bakery , been buying cakes here for over 10 years now and still the same great taste and same great designs and everything, the owner and his worker are always on point amazing bakery.

nebur2k2: This Bakery makes awesome cakes. I have always bought my Kids Birthday for a straight ten years. You get for what you pay well worth it. You could currently place your order by phone, you pick up and pay at the front door.

Hai Nguyen: This has to be the most horrible bakery ever on the planet earth. For starters the owner all he does is watches over his parking spaces. He doesn't watch over the store but all he does is hang outside and doesn't let anyone park at his four empty parking spaces. I politely told him I'm going to go to your bakery store to look at your wedding cakes but he doesn't care. I noticed other cars are also trying to park there and he does the same thing to them too. I finally was able to find a parking space a few blocks down the street. Customer service was also pretty bad. The person cared more about playing with their phone than helping me out. Got a cake ordered and went to pick it up two weeks later. I had to wait 3 hours, seems like they forgot and wow, my cake was so embarrassing. It fell apart and the icing wasn't even dry. I think with my non-baking skills that never even baked a single cake in my life, could of done a better job than them. STAY AWAY!!!!

Dany Martinez: Cakes are delicious! But the reason I gave it a three star rating was because my mother went to pick up a cake and it turned out too big for her to carry. So she asked for help and the lady said "There's noone here to help you"...poor customer service...I see many different ways that could've gone

Solage Polanco: We order a cake there 3 day before the event. They told me to go and pick it up at 5 the party was at 8 I had to wait there for almost 2hour I guess they forgot about the cake. The color was the wrong color so the had to add more color, when I got home I placed the cake in the table went upstairs to get ready when I got back the cake felt apart. I cry ....I think they forgot about the cake and when they so me they started doing. I didn't have a cake for the event, and it tasted terrible because the cake icing was not dry.

Ethan Phung: Was a great place! I ordered a cake there was really quick to order, came by to get the cake a couple hours later and it was delicious, everyone ate a slice. Had to come back for more!

Monica Andrews: Kogibow is a small bakery in Adams Morgan. While the custom cakes look good, I go there for their avocado bubble tea. They've seemed to perfect the tapioca cooking time and have also refused to make the avocado tea when the avocados were not ripe enough, which I see as a true sign of dedication to quality. The mango tea is also quite good.

Hana Market: what do users think?

Nils Hünerfürst: A little journey to Japan. When you feel some needs to shop into the world of japanese groceries then you have to visit Hana Market. After 1pm they sell fresh Onigiri. And mostly you will find all of the traditional japanese sweets like Baumkuchen and Rice Cakes. Really love this place.

Muniba Khan: A great Japanese grocery! It's small, but there's a good selection and the owner is very sweet and helpful. I recommend coming for onigiri- they sell it every day but Tuesdays and Wednesdays after 1 PM. My favorite is the chicken mayo, but they're all delicious. Also recommend the sweet breads if they're in stock!

Kali Smith: Very small store but has all the Japanese cooking staples needed for your kitchen. Very excited to see that there was bottled milk tea and some desserts. They also sell onigiri, but not on Wednesdays.

Callum Wayman: The best place in DC for all of your Japanese cooking essentials! Plus the prices can't be beat! Don't order your specialty items off of Amazon when Hana is so easily accessible for DC dwellers. Also try the rice balls that are sold up at the register, they're a delicious snack.

Hanna Foreman: Friendly owner and well curated store. Love coming here to pick up Japanese and Korean groceries. The instant ramen selection is great with Korean and Japanese options. Great selection of Japanese sauces, noodles, and seasonings. Snack aisle is always full of delicious surprises and I always walk out with something unexpected. Highly recommend if you’re looking for Japanese and Korean products in Washington.

Jennifer Sawyer: I’ve been going since they first opened many years ago. They have always been friendly and always stocked. I love the selection and go once a month to stock up on my favorites. From Matcha to Japanese food novelty items. It’s your one stop shop when you aren’t able to travel to NJ to the nearest large Japanese Supermarket.

Stephanie G: A tiny treasure! Small but packed to the brim with all you could need to make ramen, dashi, udon, etc plus sweets and produce. Staff is sweet and helpful.

Andrea Bielli: A small store full of good original Japanese products.Great selection of noodles and rice crackers but is it possible to find a lot of different things from confectionery, frozen dishes and fresh vegetables. A must for having a slice of Japan experience in DC.

David Yip: Really small store but packed with most of the basic essentials without having to go to a bigger store. Needed my instant noodles and Onigiri fix and I found it in this store. Will try their Japanese style breads the next time. Only 8 persons allowed in the store and mask on, read the posted sign.

Vijay Sookdeo: This is the only Asian grocery store in the DC area where you can find certain Japanese products. It’s small, but well stocked, and the staff is very friendly. Do get some of the rice balls when they have them.

Un je ne sais Quoi...: what do users think?

Muniba Khan: Absolutely love it! Came here for a dessert-y breakfast because of a mutual friend's recommendation. Everything that we tried was high quality and delicious, and the prices were honestly pretty reasonable. We got the apple tart, cherry blossom cream puff, and flan and I was impressed with everything. I would say my favorite was probably the cream puff or the apple tart! They also have pretty good coffee, I got a cappuccino and I was satisfied. The place was really crowded and the line was out the door, so I would recommend coming as early as you can.

arun varughese: Wow. One of the best bakeries I have been to at a medium price range. They have really nice pastries which are lite and NOT loaded with sugar like many of the other bakeries. Pear tart - My favorite item from the place. It had a lite pear flavor with soft and yummy crust. Croquettes- really good and a steal for the price. Pistachio- they have really good pistachio cream so try any of their pistachio based pastries if available. Hot chocolate- The hot chocolate was good but nothing unique. Optional try. I am not sure if it’s authentic French as I don’t have a reference. But their pastries felt really high quality and you won’t have a sugar rush after having them.

Saminda Wijegunawardena: This first visit was generally underwhelming. Their much lauded meringue failed to impress. I had the Memorable with coffee chocolate ganache, coffee whipped cream, milk chocolate shavings. It was surprisingly dry and not as cloud like fluffy as envisioned. The Memorable was quite forgettable. The flavor leaned heavily on the sugar, a bit too much for my taste. The chocolate eclair in contrast was on the spot. Creamy chocolate filling with a perfectly moist dough in the interior and a crisp shell layered with a generous stripe of chocolate icing. I'm sure there are some other great things but when the eclair trumps your flagship item, it can only garner 3 stars.

Iris Tan: I LOVE everything here! I was visiting DC and My friend brought me here as this is her fav place for French pastries! We ordered 4 kinds and I loved them all! Especially the cream … they are not too sweet and creamy … also I did a quick sketch here to capture some cute moments;)

Christina Z: My group ordered the almond, pistachio and coffee croissants. The fillings were tasty, but there was no beautiful flaky interior texture. It seems as if they cook their croissants at too high of a temperature so the outside cooks too fast and the inside does not fully cook. I've had better croissants elsewhere.

Da-Wang Wu: One of the best bakeries in DMV! They only sell croissant and breads before 11am and start selling desserts after 11am. The chocolate tarts and lemon tarts are both very delicious. Eclair and millefeuille are not bad but slightly too sweet for me, but my partner likes it. The chocolate brioche-like small bread was my favorite. Highly recommend!

Piper Strzelecki: Tragically, I am allergic to gluten, so I often don’t expect much from pastry shops. However, the staff were very helpful and I was able to pick from 2 options. I had the raspberry financier and it was easily the BEST gluten free bakery item I have ever had!!! Thank you for this 😁

Vi Rodriguez: This place is worth the visit! We almost skipped this place because finding parking sucked! I'm glad we parked and walked a block to check this place out. The pastries not only look good but they were delicious!!! We got apple and strawberry fritters and a butter croissant. In additional we got two vanilla lattes one with oat milk. It was a bummer they couldn't do cool designs in our lattes but man those lattes were DELICIOUS! There is seating inside and outside. Service is very fast and the staff were extremely nice and knowledgeable. The require masks to enter the establishment.

Ashleah Younker: My friends and I stopped by on a whim and were very pleased by our decision! I got an eclair that I ate directly after purchasing that was So Good! I also got a chocolate twist and a raisin roll to go to share with my partner for breakfast the following morning. Both were delicious, but I preferred the raisin roll slightly. One of my friends ordered a hot latte, and it smelled divine.

Patricia Alejandro: Excellent apple turnover, warmed up and buttery, crispy pastry. The marveilleux was also excellent, multilayered with chocolate mousse, crunchy meringue and chocolate shards. Best if its kind I’ve had yet.

Teaism Dupont Circle: what do users think?

Min Li Fu: What a cute place to go for a meal before/after sight seeing at the White House. They have many unique and common tea selections. The food are Asian inspired and not like what you commonly see in other restaurants. Their cookies also look quite scrumptious.
Response: Hey Min - I'm glad you liked the Salty Oat cookies - we do ship them if you develop a craving - call me at 202-409-1285 and I can make it happen!

Jessica Martin: A utterly delightful tea, small plate, and sweets place that never disappoints. A comfortable selection of indoor and outdoor seating perfect for working on your computer or catching up with friends. I got the jasmine crème brûlée which is rich and fresh and the jasmine tea with is perfectly brewed, not bitter at all. Prices are very fair and the servers are kind too. And they have all the information for allergies like gluten on hand if you need it. I’m glad this location stays open until 8.
Response: Jessica, thank you so much for this thorough and kind review! We really appreciate it. Hope to see you again.

Bolo 'Ye: This place is great!! I highly recommend it. The food is very delicious, great location very convenient, friendly staff, it’s very quiet inside you can literally come here do your work and no disturbances. You can either sit on the first floor or 2nd to enjoy delicious food. If your looking for a parking garage, LAZ parking garage is 2 minutes driving $10 all day.

Henry Whelchel: Teaism is serious about their tea. I haven't had a cup quite this good in some time. The kitchen is also very talented.

Gaby Karakcheyeva: I go here very often and always get great quality food. I usually get the salmon bento box and the star of Africa tea and it never misses. I haven’t been disappointed by any of their food and the service is usually pretty quick depending on what you get, I’ve never waited more than 10-15 minutes
Response: Thanks Gaby - we're cooking from scratch so that takes time - trying to be as quick as we can. Hope to see you again soon.

Ido Simyoni: Went for lunch. Counter service only. Even though we set upstairs, we had to come down to get our food. They messed up my order but fixed it within couple of minutes . Food was good After all.

Ronak Patel: Come here!! Not only is there a wide selection of teas and beverages, they have really great food. While we only came for some tea and an appetizer, it was all made exactly how we wanted it and one of the employees suggested these broccoli tots after I had ordered another broccoli appetizer (so I followed her suggestion) and I was not disappointed!

Jane Jing: So many tea choices. There was so much noise from the kitchen when we sat on the second floor.

Amorah Shakti: Felt like I was eating cafeteria food. I ordered the curry lentil soup. It tasted from a can and was not made with fresh ingredients….I also ordered the sweet potatoes with miso sauce. They were served cold, straight out of the fridge. It was also quite an unusual combination and tasted weird… The shop offered to microwave it, I declined. The tea selection was decent but didn’t have the quality I was looking for. Service was ok, but didn’t seem to care. Bye Teaism 👋

S D: I am not one to leave bad reviews but I feel like I have to, sadly. Firstly, maybe it was an off day, but the staff was not very helpful nor friendly. Since it was my first time here (and honestly I've heard good things), I was expecting more when I was asking questions, but I guess that's my bad - should have researched on my own. Secondly, and most importantly, the gentlemen making my "tea" did not close the lid correctly, nor did they warn me about the defective cup. So when I left, the lid opened up, spilling boiling hot water all over my hand. I now have painful burn marks on me. It's been a day, but I am still extremely upset and disappointed and I feel like I wasted my money on this place that (no offense) is not even that good.
Response: Hi S, please let us say we are so sorry that this was your experience. If you can email us your information at info@teaism.com we would like to send you a gift card to visit us again. We do know that with supply chain issues we have sometimes been receiving cup lids from different brands and there are slight differences that mean our team has to be extra careful that the lids are put on properly- that is no excuse however for you to receive an improperly attached lid. Our apologies again, and hope you will write to us at info@teaism.com.

Rose Ave Bakery: what do users think?

Will Herbst: I showed up 10 minutes before it opened and waited in line for about 20 minutes total. This was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. The bacon egg crescent was so good- the crescent itself was backed with ungodly amounts of flavor. The coffee milk tea is one of the most delicious beverages I’ve consumed. Passion fruit donut was wonderfully spongy. The passion fruit flavor really came across

Eric Finkelstein: Tried a black sesame doughnut, black sesame cookie, pandan coconut doughnut, ensaymada, and coconut mochi puffs. All excellent. The doughnuts were delightfully soft. My and my girlfriend's favorite was both the black sesame doughnut. Preorders were completely sold out, so I had this walk-in. I arrived 12 min after they opened, and waited in line 17 min to purchase.

Aisha Sees: I preordered the doughnuts on Sunday - process was smooth. I arrived after 1 on a weekday and there were plenty of street parking available. Picking up my order was easy but I did notice all the walk-ins were sold out by that time. Ordered 4 doughnuts: passion fruit, guava mousse, strawberry rose lychee, and black sesame. They were all good but the passion fruit one was my absolute favorite. Perfect balance of sweet and tangy, good ratio of filling vs doughnut (filled doughnuts are not my faves but these, I could do!). The dough was fluffy and light. I didn’t want to eat it all in one day so I refrigerated what I had left. Warmed it up a bit in the microwave the next day and it was still delicious.

Desiree Litchford-Rooney: Absolute heaven! I picked up a pre-order with Rose Ave on a vacation trip to DC so I wasn't able to try everything they had but I ordered a half dozen donuts. They were filled donuts with a tender brioche base and omg the fillings had me swooning! I got to try the black sesame (X2), strawberry rose lychee, guava, passion fruit, and pandan coconut donuts. I wasn't sure what to expect since people seem to shove any old flavor into a donut these days for the excitement, whether it works or not, but these flavors were clearly chosen with care and intentionality. My favorite was the black sesame - I had almost like a salted peanut butter flavor but more delicate, and the pandan coconut was so bright and balanced and just completely delicious, ugh I get butterflies just thinking about it lol! Also side note as someone who has worked in food, the way they packed these babies up without squishing a single one was flawless! Anyway if you're hesitant because of the preordering or the bumping crowd I'm here to let you know they're more than worth it!

Khoi Nguyen: This has become one of my favorite bakeries in the area. I'll drive into the city during the weekends just for their baked goods. Highly recommend checking their IG to check availability. I stopped by on a busy Sunday and ordered the Vietnamese coffee, matcha cookie, ube cake slice, Asian pear Kouign Amann, passionfruit, Pandan Coconut, and black sesame donuts. If you don't plan on eating it there fresh. Definitely take it home and toss it in the toaster or air fryer. If you get the donuts they are great after you nuke them in the microwave for a few secs. The Pandan and black sesame donuts were some of the best of ever had. The Kouign Amann is like a really crispy croissant with multiple layers and a fresh jam like compote inside. Really delicious, creative and definitely my favorite. The concept here is awesome like a fusion bakery. Strong French techniques and flavors from Vietnam, Philippines and other Asian countries. I'll definitely be back to try their other signature pastries.

Julia Hsia: No doubt my favorite bakery in the downtown area now… the croissant was a ma zing! 🥐The calamansi yuzu croissant was crazy. Although the egg white smell on the top was slightly strong, the taste was still good. The fruity sourness balanced the sweetness of the cream. Donut was great also, although I’m not a donut fan. I got a ube coconut one. The flavor was good! Definitely coming back again!

Kyndal Wilkie: Delicious donuts with exciting flavor profiles. Their donuts are light, airy, and not greasy. Our favorites have been the passion fruit, ube, and black sesame cookie. However, you won't find a bad thing on the menu.

Christopher Lew: The most popping establishment in The Block food hall in DC! Line was out the door, and we were wondering what everyone was in line for, and then I found out it was for the Rose Ave Bakery, which had been on my list of wanting to try forever!! Rose Ave Bakery is a local Asian American Woman owned bakery that has such a heartwarming story behind them. We ordered the Passion Fruit Donut, Coconut Ube Donut, Strawberry Rose Lychee Donut, and the Black Sesame Donut. The PFD was by far the most delicious with the passion fruit filling. It was perfect - not too sweet. We really enjoyed all the sweets we got, and we don't normally like sweets to begin with! Definitely arrive early, as the stock is limited, and by the time we got to the front, they were running out of certain items.

Kate Sutliff: Amazing bakery! Fantastic assortment of sweet and savory. Be prepared to plan ahead. Pre orders are the best way to get the items you want. Day of, the lines can be really long. Very friendly staff. We take anyone who visits us here.

Isabelle Ku: Sept 2021 This is a small place inside a small food court. There are 2-3 other places (the bar is closed due to covid), and Rose Ave Bakery's counter is very small, tucked into the far corner. The place is clean and there is a unisex bathroom by the bakery. The staff were also friendly, efficient, and the lady I talked to was a bit peppy too. All the staff wore masks. Most of the people in line were picking up preorders. It looked like the staff had all the preorders on a cart to the side behind the counter. Also, there were lots of racks of baked goods and a nice display up front of their available baked items. We ordered a number of pastries, cookies, and a slice of ube cake. The ube cake was very good, strong ube flavor, and the icing wasn't too sweet either. All the donuts were good, dense with a good amount of filling. Only complaint was too much sugar sprinkled on the donuts. The peach was also very fresh and very good. The scallion pancake bun was fluffy and tasty, but I was disappointed at the use of excessive spice which drowned out the scallion flavor. All the cookies were very good. In all, excellent food, if a bit expensive. Will most likely come back, but not regularly. I am very interested in trying more of their ube products.

Matcha Cafe Maiko: what do users think?

tomonori takahashi: I tried Matcha Kuromitsu Kinako Kokuto Gelatin Float. (Left one in the picture) This is like “All-star team” of Japanese sweet. Sweetness from Kokuto, strong flavor of Maccha and comforting flavor of Kinako. Well balanced taste and it reminds of my life in Japan. Little disappointment is Kokuto jelly wasn’t enough amount like the picture on menu.

Olivia: amazing little kiosk! they have such a nice selection and i really want to go back! I got the uji-kintoki and everything about it was good. The portion was a lot bigger than I expected. I could tell that the quality of the matcha was high, and they gave you a lot of matcha flavor in the shaved ice; it wasn't watery at all. honestly it was a little bit sweeter than my liking (mind i'm someone who drinks straight matcha powder+water) but i believe you can order it with less sweetness. also, the server was very sanitary and polite. i highly recommend trying cafe maiko out! it's hard to find places like these.
Response: Thank you so much for your review Olivia! For future reference, if you want the uji kintoki to be less sweet, you can either request less syrup and/or less/no condensed milk.

Nishil Patel: Great chain of restaurants that offers amazing drinks and desserts. Today, I got the matcha and black seasme cheese iced lattes. The drinks were both very rich, creamy, and not too sweet. The slight saltiness of the cheese foam was a great addition to the sweetness of the drink. Would highly recommend trying the lattes.

Isabelle Ku: July 2021 I've been looking for a good matcha ice cream place since Bon Matcha closed, and this one was a little disappointing. They do use real matcha, but the flavor was very dull and you mainly tasted the bitterness of the matcha. I'm guessing the matcha they used wasn't fresh (probably another consequence of covid-related issues) and I'm hoping the quality will improve over time. They also had lychee flavored ice cream the day we went. It was pretty good, with a strong lychee flavor. Better than the matcha. The service was fast and the portion sizes decent for the price. Will probably come back later to see if the matcha has improved.
Response: Hi Isabella, thank you for the extensive review! If possible, please send us a private message to further assist your concern. Thank you!

Mina Myoi: Ordered Matcha Latte Ice with soy bean powder in it (not the original matcha latte). Should have ordered at least medium size . One of the best matcha latte I tried in the states! Definitely recommend the place. Going to try matcha ice cream next time.

Meia Harris: I am a matcha fiend, so naturally this is a must. I normally go to the location in Centreville, but I finally tried ordering at this kiosk. I got a matcha frappé this time around. It was delicious as expected! It was quite sweet, but not overly.

Jen Lai: It's located at a kiosk next to Victoria's Secret! The ice cream and shaved ice is full of matcha flavor! Red bean is soft and sweet, the mochi (more like soft dongo!) Is super tasty, and the single yellow chestnut is honey-glazed. I would definitely recommend for a summer snack. Service was very nice. They told us they ran out of vanilla ice cream, so I had a blend of yuzu (Asian citrus fruit) and matcha blend instead.

Melissa Farzin: Delicious matcha! The regular or medium size is more like a small, so size up. I got the iced matcha latte with oat milk and 50% sweetened. So delicious. I will definitely visit this little kiosk again soon!

Kali Smith: I love this chain, it never disappoints!! They have alternative milk. We got the iced matcha latte and the iced hojicha (darker flavor than matcha). Amazing!!

Yingxin Ye: Doesn’t taste good. It’s sweet only, doesn’t have Matcha’s taste. And the cheesecake is too sticky.
Response: Hi Yingxin. Thank you for stopping by and for your review! Our apologies that our homemade double fromage cheesecake did not meet your expectations. Also, our mix soft serve tends to be on the sweeter side to balance out our full and bitter matcha flavor. In addition, the mixed flavor brown sugar kinako may be overpowering the matcha especially with the brown sugar syrup topping. Please give us another try with our matcha (only) soft serve.

520 Ice Cream and Tea: what do users think?

Jazlene Guevarra: If you're looking to try rolled ice cream, I'd definitely recommend this place! They have several selections you can choose from with set base and add-in combos, with your choice or any toppings or drizzles ~ OR you can make your own! They also offer drinks like milk and fruit teas (which I hope to try the next time I visit). Definitely recommend getting the Mango Madness with mango and strawberry toppings and condensed milk drizzle!

Al Ectric: The ice cream 🍨 is definitely tasty and good quality. But I do have a beef with the pricing. I can’t justify paying close to $10 on any scoop of ice cream even if it’s gold plated! Any good scoop of ice cream shouldn’t cost you a price of a meal 🥘 in my book. That’s why I’m only giving it 2 stars.

Gia Pham: Tried their tea, it was delicious. For the toppings I wanted boba but they weren’t ready yet so I got sea salt cream it was good. It’ll be better with boba though. I’ll come back and try their ice cream soon.

Monday X.: Stopped by for ice cream after having hot pot. I came in around 5 PM, so there was a line of about six or seven people in front but I didn't mind. There were several rolling stations and several people working on it, so it sped the wait up by a little bit. The toppings are all free, which was a pretty good plus. I'd probably come back here for the free toppings if I'm in the area.

Scott Risden: After placing my order for one of their signature ice creams, I watched my order be built then set aside with no explanation. I kept waiting while the next customer's order was created then handed off before my order was recreated on what seemed to suddenly be the only functional prep area. My order was completed and I asked for additional toppings, as the create-your-own options provides unlimited toppings at the same price as my order. This was refused, which makes no sense as the signature item board doesn't mention anything of limited toppings. More so, no apology was offered for the extended wait.

Nina Nabieva: I’ve been here for the 3rd time now and it’s always delicious ice cream and I will definitely come back again!

Dang Dang: Tasty tea with good prices, cute decorations, would be better if they have some tables and chairs here. 5 stars if they get improved

CiCi: Yummy ice cream! First off- service was extremely fast and my ice cream still came out very tasty. Lots and lots of combinations you can try. But make sure to add brownie bites because it's a game changer. The location of it in the Mosaic is in a pretty calm area so it's good for an easy family visit. Looooooooove!!!!!!!!!

Alexis: Good ice cream but tea service needs some work. Every time I come in here (usually around 12-1pm). They don't have boba ready or Thai tea wasn't brewed. They should have that stuff prepped and ready for open.

John B: Gone to this shop three different times over 3 weeks for a Thai tea with bubbles since I was in the area. The first two times they didn't have bubbles (they were being made). One time was 10 minutes after opening and they said it would be 30 more minutes until they were ready (how does a tea place not have a main ingredient ready at opening?). The other time was in the evening not close to closing time (same story, making them). The last time I went, no Thai tea. I would forgive the last time (these things happen), but given the trend I don't see how I can support this place. The bubbles were not a supply issue, just a planning issue. Despite my best efforts this business has not recieved a dollar from me, and now they probably never will.

Milk Bar Logan Circle Flagship: what do users think?

India Lindsay: A classic, must-try dessert shop. Cereal milk soft serve is yummy and refreshing. The milk bar “crack” pie is great - we found it tasted better after taking it home and letting it sit in the fridge for a bit. The staff were friendly and offered generous samples. Gotta watch the Chefs table documentary on the founder before going - she has an inspiring story and helps you appreciate the dessert so much more (not that you need much help)

Maya Imani: Honestly, quite disappointing. Not with the staff or this particular store but with Milk Bar in general. How do you mess up soft serve? I was expecting “cereal milk” ice cream to be sweet, but it tastes like the milk from corn flakes (yuck). Not sure about any other menu item but if the ice cream isn’t good, can anything else be?

Jeff White: I tried this spot since my usual spot on 13th is now closed. The ice cream did not disappoint. They were out of corn flakes toppings so I went with cinnamon toast toppings. I loved it but not as good as corn flakes. Also surprised they had a parking lot.

Jamey Sadownick: Eek. I love red velvet cheesecake and had been seeing ads on social media for Milk Bar’s version. It tastes good, but nothing extraordinary. The very average-sized slice you see here is $10. Really not worth it. Cheesecake Factory’s version is less expensive and considerably more decadent and delicious. This left me feeling meh.

keith singleton: Ordered from uber eats. And omg gluten free options finally! Got the marshmallow cookie and bday cake both gluten free specifically. The cookie is freaking amazing I regret not getting the 3 pack. I havent tried the gluten free cake yet. Am grateful to have another gluten free dessert option cuz not many places offer this for those of us with celiac disease.

Merissa Pemberton: Lavondae D was wonderful! The red velvet cake was definitely worth trying. The milk bar pie was most definitely not worth trying. Disappointed in the cost compared to how thin and small the slice was.

Love EJ: Unique flavor of soft serve items and cake.Strawberry shortcake is really good.

Hanna Foreman: Was a big fan of the owner before coming here and thought the concept was a good idea. Came here over the summer for some ice cream on a hot, swampy DC day. Many of the desserts were sitting on the counter prepackaged and wrapped in plastic. Ordered a cereal soft serve in a cone with no extras that came out to $6. Way too expensive for something basic without a lot of flavor or toppings. Staff was not too friendly and probably will not return.

Josh Dailey: The cookies and the cake are unbelievable. I know sometimes they can be a little dry, but for the most part my experiences have been super positive. Cake price is pretty standard for a good cake, which in general is just expensive. I’d definitely go if you’re in the area, get the compost cookie! I’ve tried them all, as you can see in my pictures, and my top 3 are compost cookie, confetti cookie, and blueberry & cream cookie. Don’t miss out!

C Ark: Stopped by before they closed. They were very friendly and helpful. Prices are a bit ridiculous for a slice of cake and pie ($17 total) but at least the cake was a decent size (pie slice was tiny). Both the cake and pie were delicious.

SnoCream Company: what do users think?

Haley Markusson: one of the best desserts in the dmv, probably even the one of the best in the world. snow cream basically shaved ice cream with the most delicious toppings and drizzles. they have tons of unique flavors that are hard to come by like pandan, thai tea, and black sesame. they have a wide range of toppings from bananas, to red beans, and just about every other tasty topping you can think of. you can’t get a snow cream without finishing it off with a drizzle of chocolate, strawberry, or my all time favorite condensed milk. i love to experiment with different flavor and topping combos every time i visit. i love that they have an option where you can split the base between two flavors to try more. snow cream comes with two free topping and one free drizzle but i like to pile on to my heart’s content. i have yet to try any of there bubble teas or ice creams because the snow cream is so tempting. the vibe of this place immaculate! the colors, lights, and music all make it a great experience. while at the block make sure to also check out other vendors like ball kitchen and hold dumpling. everyone should try snow cream at least once in their life.

Bradley P: It was so serendipitous to find this place! My wife and I have been trying to find a dessert that was similar to Vintage Shaved Ice when we visited Hawaii. When we were visiting another place under the same roof called, Pokemania, we were thrilled to see this place has shaved ice, in which we could add mochi, popping boba and other things to. My wife also ordered a Nutella doughnut, which was unlike any other type of don't we have ever eaten. I think both items were made Taiwanese style. I am over the moon that we found this place. I would give it 10 stars if yelp allowed me .

Jereth Tolentino: Wow! This place is good! Snowcream and Ube soft serve on point. The food court has. good vibe and good music. I definitely will recommend and come back.

Serra Karacam: This was the best shaved ice I’ve ever had. I got the Taro flavor with Oreos and pocky sticks as the toppings. No drizzle. It was delicious and it was only around 7 dollars. They give you a generous amount as well, absolutely worth the price. 100% recommend.

Casey Grimes: Amazing drinks! I hope they bring back the rose Thai tea and butterfly pea Thai tea those were my favorite. The snow cream is good too but I go for the bubble teas and fruity drinks more often. Not too sweet like other local shops.

Gia Pham: I get snocream here all the time!! every flavor is delicious and have many great toppings also. I got their limited edition boba tea called Butterfly Pea Thai Tea. The color itself is very beautiful and the drink is very good also. Totally recommend

Lee Stat: The place got very busy. I would’ve never noticed this place because the sign is so small. It’s hard to find. The ice cream was very good. I did like the Vietnamese coffee ice cream was very creamy. The cookie butter ice cream is delicious.

Deena Nguyen: unique flavors! i got black sesame and taro, both were delicious. they had a nice variety of toppings including red bean, pocky, rolled wafers, and mochi! will definitely return

Russ Shubert: The shaved ice cream is so amazing. There are so many toppings you can choose from, and I loved how generous they're filling our cups. Also, their Pandan and Ube Ice cream are both delicious. Yum!

Rashi Garg: Today was our first time here, we will definitely be coming back!! We tried the delish Snocream bowl, your choice of ice cream, toppings and a drizzle - definitely recommend! Other drinks were Vietnamese iced coffee, passionfruit boba tea, and Raspberry Lychee rose lemonade - yum!!

Siroo and Jukstory: what do users think?

DB L: I went here strictly for the corn dogs which is served up by Two Hands. I loved the modern self ordering menu. The original corn dog is COMPLETELY dusted with sugar. So this skews the meal a tad sweet. In the future, I would get the corn dog takeaway and pair it with a saltier item.

zeyanna aa: Very nice atmosphere. Workers were nice and helpful without being “fake nice”. I appreciated it. I got the bulgogi bibimbap and my husband got the spicy pork w/rice. Absolutely delicious and filling! The portion was great for the price. I had to get a To-go container for mine. The shaved ice is very refreshing too. They put extra toppings in the middle, so it wasn’t just shaved ice underneath :) They also have premade meals and kimbap. We bought one to take back with us on the road. YUM Thanks for the wonderful food on our road trip!

Charlene Taylor: My daughter found this place on TikTok. We live in Stafford and decided to drive up today. Honestly haven’t had Korean food like that, mostly Japanese. It was decent. Nice little experience for my family and the guy at the counter was explaining how to cook stuff at home for us. Super cool overall. Highly recommend the chicken cutlets. Nice crisp to them. The ramen was a bit spicy but like normal ramen. The hot dogs were good. Not like your American style hot dog. I can’t remember the soup looking bowl but it’s worth a try. The steak bowl was good as well.

Kali Smith: The best thing was the Korean corn dogs (gamja hot dog /감자핫도그) ! We tried two different flavors, potato and spicy , and they were amazing. You can get them with a hotdog inside, or mozzarella, or half and half. We got all mozzarella inside. We also got spicy pork and broccoli and shrimp juk. The juk was a little bland, but other flavor combinations are probably better. There are stations to order via touchscreen or at the counter. There is covid barrier at counter. Both hot and cold water are available / self serve. Plenty of seating and parking is available outside. Also several pre-prepared items available and Korean snacks for sale. Bingsu ( 빙수) is also on the menu, as well as teas and espresso drinks.

Sam M: This place offers a variety of delicious porridges and shaved ice and more. There’s plenty of seating inside and a lot of parking spaces in front of the place. I usually visit this place to get some porridges. I ordered kimchi porridge and beef and vegetable porridge and they were both really good. Their shaved ice with different toppings was sweet and flavorful. There are different side dishes and appetizers. Staffs were very accommodating and attentive every time I visited this restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try some good porridges and shaved ice

Gene H: Great food at very reasonable prices. Perfect place to pick up a corn dog or enjoy more traditional Korean dishes. Highly recommended.

Paul Mayeur: The bibimbap was amazing. The corn dogs are fine. Not my thing but I could see the appeal when drunk. Not sure it's a "dinner". Also love the mini grocery store

Sticks Forks & Others: This is the best known traditional Korean rice cake store in the DMV area. The cakes aren’t 100% authentic - a bit of modification from traditional recipes and adapted to local tastes. But overall they aren’t that bad. The service, however, can be improved. They rarely engage with the customer, no eye contact, and they make you feel like they just want to get you out of the store and move onto the next customer. We went there to get some songpyun, the traditional Korean rice cake eaten during Chusok, harvest festival. I called a day earlier, and the store said that they’ll have more than enough the next day of what I wanted. I arrived early in the morning, and to my surprise they said they only had enough for pre-orders. What? I respectfully reminded them of my call, but to no avail. Only after literally begging them, did they grudgingly hand me a handful of songpyun. And to add insult to injury, they charged me full price for a partially fill package. Made me feel like a non-paying beggar. Not going back, ever again!

Kee-Eun Lee: My mom loves this place for their kimbap and no needing to tip. Lol. Their ginseng chicken porridge is super good - they offer over 20 kinds! I could feel health energy popping up after this one. They’re open now for dine-in, wear a mask and 1-hour dining limit. Love that jangjorim is one of their side dishes, it’s this classic braised shredded beef in some sort of soy sauce marinade (left middle). Lastly I hear their bingsoos are the best in Annandale, but have yet to try. Will be back!

Aaron: Corndog: Really slow and just meh. Took 20 minutes and it was just a corndog rolled in crunchy panko. Otherwise taste is hardly different from a frozen corn dog. The corn breading was a little too soft . Sauce is too sweet for my taste. Tteokbokki: Just ok. The cakes were good but sauce is too sweet. Gimbap: Bad. The cucumbers tasted old.

Altani Gelato & Coffee: what do users think?

Johnika Dreher: In the mood for ice cream after walking along the marina. We stumbled upon the closest spot but their line was out of the door. We looked via Google Maps for another dessert spot and was directed here. What a fantastic find. The gelato is amazing delicious. I enjoyed my Oreo flavor. My friend got a double flavor and enjoyed hers. We plan to bring our kids back to enjoy the water fountains one evening and try the pizza too. This is definitely a cool place to venture. I believe DC offers free parking on Sunday’s. Parking was pretty plentiful on this Sunday evening. The bathrooms leave everything to be desired - no tissue, just a whole mess for the women’s anyway. But I can’t fault the Gelato venue for this as they share a space with the Pizza vendor and the Sushi vendor. There is ample seating outside and a lovely rooftop space for pictures. The Navy Yard marina is just three blocks away. I hope you find this review helpful. If so, please give me a thumbs up. Thank you.

M B: Some of the best Gelato I've ever had!!!!!!! 10 out of 10!!! Amazing. Truly a treat. I usually ride my bike and get the to-go bigger sizes for later. The flavor selection is varied and the flavor is outstanding. It's also right next to a great NYC style Pizza spot. Don't sleep on Altani Gelato & Coffee!!!!

Kelly M.: I really enjoy this gelato shop and my favorite flavors are the lemon and cheesecake, though they offer such a great and delicious variety! The only thing I’ll say though is that it seems they’re keeping the gelato at too cold of a temperature. Gelato is supposed to be a bit softer and creamy but you can tell just by watching the server scoop your gelato that it is way, way too hard. I don’t remember this being an issue when I first went here several months ago but I’ve noticed it over the past couple visits. Hasn’t kept me from returning though….

umberto marino: First, should be called ice cream, gelato is something else. Pistachio and tiramisu flavor very industrial made, the employee took 5 minutes to scoop the ice cream was so hard, not creamy means that the quality is not artisanal so not gelato, bus industrial ice cream. Raise your standard of production and ingredients if you are looking to be fancy and call it gelato.

Robert Cardoni: Delicious gelato ... a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Nice way to cap off a slice or 2 from the adjacent pizza place - Wise Guys The staff is super awesome. Very friendly and accommodating. Portions are generous and there’s tons of flavors. Love this place!!

m rivera: Went for their soft opening after grabbing a slice of pizza at wise guys. I was mesmerized to see all the options they had of gelato. The employees there are super nice and they informed me that they were taught by an Italian chef in how to make these masterpieces of gelato. I got myself pistachios, raspberry cheesecake, and coffee in a large bowl. They are having a promotional discount of 50% until Sunday (4/7) and paid about $3. My first bite was heaven being melted into my tongue! I am definitely going back and wouldn't mind paying for the full price. It is super delicious, fresh, and appealing to see.

Elsa Alvarado: Had no idea this was part of the sushi place; their gelato is so fresh and delicious. Loved the red velvet, Oreo, and strawberry flavors.

Dondré: The display of ice-cream inside was very reminiscent of Italy. The staff and service was great, very nice and patient. This ice cream shop is in a great location to be able to get the ice cream and walk through canal park or sit on all the benches in front of the water fountain.

Brad Roberts: It's says "Coffee" but they have no coffee. Maybe their gelato is good. This is just a review for their poor choice of name

Annette Antonelli: Flavor. Flaaaavor. We loved it; good vibe and service too. Try the Reese’s, dark chocolate, and Oreo chocolate.

Teaism Penn Quarter: what do users think?

mike wittenburg: Five stars. Great food plenty of options. My friend was with me, a Teaism fan for many years and she noticed a few things missing from the menu recently. The French toast is awesome, just awesome. Tea selection is obviously great. Outdoor seating is limited, but inside there are two levels of seating. Vegetable kabobs are good. Food is prepared quickly so don't be afraid to wait in line to order. Great vegetarian options. Enjoy

Jon and Amanda Lewis: Stopped in for a quick snack after visiting the National Gallery of Art. Ordered a traditional bubble tea and a Salty Oat cookie (like an oatmeal raisin). Both were excellent. The rest of the menu looked fun. There are some sandwiches and bento boxes. Want to come back!

Christine R: Vegan ginger scones, beet burger, salmon binto box, and berry tea....drooling. This is a wonderful place to eat, relax, and get out of the cold- right by the Archives metro stop. The lady that works the cash register knows the menu inside and out. She's worked there for years and is super kind. The first floor is wheel chair accessible, including the bathroom. The basement is not.

Karina Kisselite: There was a lot of sitting - the place has two floors. Their menu is kind of fun - an Asian fusion. The taste was just ok though. Not bad, but not smth to come back for. We had noodles with veggies and chicken okonomiyaki. Chocolate salted oatmeal cookie for dessert - that one was good. The place has a great selection of tees. A bit on a dirtier side when it gets busy. You order upstairs and have to wait for them to call your order.

Trev: I was walking to my car when I stumbled across this Tea shop. Atmosphere was great soon as I walked in. I tried The lavender lemon mint and the Korean beef brisket sandwich . It was amazing no complaints from me! I love the vibes in the shop for sure I really recommend giving this a try ! 5/5 from me for my 1st time 👍🏼

Proficient Potato: Not your traditional bubble tea offering, but they have so many other flavors I haven’t tried before! They also have warm food options, and have a binder with all of the Allergens for each dish and if contains meat right by the order counter! The food I got was great, warm, filling, and well spiced. First place I’ve had a paper boba straw!

Elias Chelala: A huge selection of teas complimented with an Asian fusion menu. I ordered the Okonomiyaki and my friend ordered the Korean Brisket sandwich. I also ordered the sweet matcha tea and added boba. My friend ordered regular black tea with boba. The tea was very refreshing on a hot DC day and we both left satisfied.
Response: Thank you, Elias!

Rick Schwartz: The Bento boxes were OK, but looked much better in the pictures online. The $4 Boba was the best thing we had here. I wouldn't come back for the Bento boxes.

Zachary Tyler: Amazing blend of tasty, reasonably priced food with high quality and traditional varieties of tea. The silver needle white tea was amazing.
Response: Thank you Zachary! We love the silver needle too. Hope to see you again 😊

Yessenia C: The food is so delicious! Their chicken bento box is a must have, it comes with cold sweet potatoes and cold broccoli!. The onion sauce is dynamite! Their Korean brisket sandwich is really good. The sweet Japanese green tea (matcha) is refreshing. The teas are really good as well. 2 doors down they have a tea shop. UPDATE as of 5/18/22 They have brought back the panko fried chicken! I was told the menu will be changing soon.
Response: Hey Yessenia - I'm so glad you enjoyed your lunch at Teaism - and your visit to the shop. The shop has so many lovely things - if you are starting your holiday shopping!

Niko’s Spiked Gelato: what do users think?

J. Peter Loftus: Phenomenal gelato products with unique flavors. This company must have spared no expense to deliver a rich, creamy texture with no aftertaste usually associated with other gelato brands. The Bourbon Chocolate Chip is in my freezer at all times. Niko's Gelato is great for impressing guests also, with something different for dessert. Beware, the liquor infused products are potent. You will likely catch a good buzz if you consume at least half a pint. The Caribbean Rum Punch flavor is a refreshing compliment after a good meal. All of the flavors are great and you won't be disappointed. The cost is economical if you think about what we pay for a shot of liquor these days. Now add a pint of flavorful gelato and call it a night! They also have non-alcoholic flavors also. I recommend visiting the store in Ivy City at Studio 52. If you are lucky, you might get to meet the real Niko!!!

Abi T.: Super friendly + so tasty! Hooked me and my friends up! Support them! Great service :) wishing you so much success! P.s. you guys should make a Tik tok to promote your business!

byron subero: On a hot spring day what's better than a spiked sorbet. Oh and it's right down the block from throw social

melo joy: Both the sorbets (Caribbean Rum Punch & Mango Margarita) and gelato (Bourbon Coffee Chocolate Chip & Salted Caramel Whiskey) were delicious! I can't believe the alcohol content is only 5%! Excellent customer service. So friendly.

Layona Hill: OMG!!! The perfect ice cream and cocktail in one 😀 I Love it 🤩 Great for Date night 😌 My boyfriend and I Enjoyed it a lot!!!😊

Austin Graff: Yelp Write a Review Austin G. Niko's Spiked Gelato Read our review guidelines Woohoo! As good as it gets! All changes saved Niko's Spiked Gelato is the product of the 2020 pandemic. Pre-COVID, Chelsea, a D.C. native, ran an event space business out of an industrial building in Ivy City. When the pandemic cancelled all her events, she turned the three month supply of alcohol for events into a business. Partnering with a chef, they created the city's first spiked gelato and sorbet. Fast forward to today, Niko's Spiked Gelato is a business that sells the perfect combination (ice cream and booze) through Uber Eats, Grubhub and safe curbside pick-up. Here are the flavors I recommend: 1) Bourbon coffee chocolate chip gelato 2) Peanut butter cup whiskey gelato (our family's favorite) 3) Fall rose sangria sorbet 4) Raspberry sorbet (they have several non-alcoholic flavors for kids) Niko's is the perfect pandemic treat- gelato and booze. Highly recommend!

Shane Redman: Nikos is absolutely delicious! I've been multiple times and haven't found a bad flavor yet!

Elliot Neils: Niko is a precious and kind soul and i love following his videos on Instagram.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Sushi Taro: what do users think?

Elena: Had a wonderful dinner here celebrating my husband's birthday - we opted for the full experience and enjoyed a variety of tasty dishes, from raw fish/sushi, to cooked. There was ample food, to be sure! Servers were wonderful and helpful, even our kids had a lovely time and found plenty of dishes to enjoy.

Julia Schwartz: Sushi Taro was an absolutely lovely experience. I went with my brother who lives about 5 mins away while I was in town visiting. The service was impeccable and the food was fantastic. It was right after the snow storm and I was happy to see how many other people were still getting out and dining. My brother and I split everything and it was to die for. I know this is kind of random, but one of my highlights of the meal was the spicy mustard they served with the duck. I seriously could drink that mustard. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Michael B: This place is a very traditional Japanese sushi restaurant. The dishes are beautiful, the hospitality and service is too notch! I went here for my birthday and it was incredible! I loved the little green tea pudding they gave as a gift, it was the perfect treat to end the meal!

Daphnemels Melodia: Highly recommend. I had an amazing experience at Sushi Taro. Booked a reservation for our wedding anniversary and the restaurant made it really memorable for us. Our orders were: Sushi tokujo, Tai Zohsui and a raw octopus tentacle dish. Service: Excellent. Tara was our server and she’s attentive to our enquiries. She also patiently explained the names of the dishes to us (we showed her google photos). They were quite flexible with my request for no tamago, include uni and roe sushi. Dishes: Excellent. The sashimi slices on the sushi and octopus tentacles was fresh. The porridge had this umami flavour, simply delightful. Each dish was also plated in a pleasing manner. Price: $$$$ as what google dictates. But it’s worth it. Experience: Excellent. The restaurant surprised us with a matcha dessert at the end of our meal to celebrate our anniversary. The mochi was soft and chewy, the brown syrup paired well with the ice-cream and jelly cubes. I really appreciated the kind gesture and extra mile that Sushi Taro went for us. Thank you (:

Miguel Curiel: Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Don’t be fooled by the small and shady entrance: the place is spacious and nicely themed. Also, it is located on 17th street food corridor which is youthful and picturesque. Lastly, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious which explains its Michelin level ratings!

Hannah: Wow!! When we first walked in I was a little surprised that this place was a Michelin star. We came during restaurant week (menu attached) and every single dish was absolutely amazing! The freshest & most delectable fish my tastebuds have ever experienced, they were literally dancing. Decor was simple but elegant, was a nice environment and good service. This restaurant is definitely deserving of their star & highly recommend !

Heather Leiss: Delicious kaiseki menu. Some of the best sushi we've had. Also a filling amount of sushi on this tasting menu. Can't wait to try the omakase table next time!

Wendy Gao: For a Michelin star restaurant, this was a disappointing experience. The website isn't very useful. I tried to make a reservation for omakase 30 days in advance (as stated on the site), which I had to do through EMAIL instead of a reservation site, only to be told that all the slots are booked. So I guess if you'd like to have omakase, make sure to do it well in advance of 30 days. Instead, I settled for a table reservation. The restaurant is located in a not very easy to access location from the subway, so I recommend ubering from the subway - it's a long walk! The service was not that great and not very prompt. There was not much interaction with the wait staff, they just placed the food and left. We ordered a la carte (the servers gave no recommendations or guidance). The food was good but not mind blowing great. Overall, there was no wow experience or feeling that I was being taken care of during my dinner. It was more of any other fancy date night restaurant that you might go to than an actual Michelin star place, which was pretty disappointing. I recommend if you're looking for a place with good service and experience to go to Sushi Nakazawa instead.

Salman Haji: Delicious food with lots of variety! The menu is intimidating for someone who has even a basic understanding of Japanese food, but our waitress was super kind and patient in explaining everything to us. Definitely loved the dessert and tea options too.

Love EJ: Here for anniversary dinner but no one asked for dinning purpose today. Nothing special or photo taking moment happens today like other fine dining restaurants. Kaiseki was 120 per person. We added some other food as well. All the food was good but service was not that attentive. If you want to be American style wow moment, you would probably be disappointed. Food is really good from appetizers to desserts. Sushi fish today was somewhat not that fresh. Lagging time between dish to dish was pretty long. I would do la carte only next time.

Shilla Bakery & Cafe (Annandale): what do users think?

Kelly Lee: Bubbles weren't really chewy but the tea itself was good. Mocha cake was too much cream but fresh cream cake was good. They didn't have many types of bread also the cashier didn't know how she can place an order i think she was under the training. Otherwise it was overall okay experience.

Rashi Garg: Nice Asian bakery in Annandale. They offer a large variety of coffee and baked goods ranging from bread, buns, crossiant, Asian pound cake to really exquisite looking cream cakes. We got the mango cream cake for a family birthday, looks really good, cNt wait to try it! We also tried their Bingsoo, Korean shaved ice with ice cream ND toppings, we got the Hawaianand coffee bingsoo. They were okay, but honestly we prefer the Snocream across the street.

Annandale Home: I been a regular customer of Shilla for many years and they have been consistent with their bake goods until now. Been ordering cakes from them for many years but the last time the cake was not as I expected, it was filled with lots of whipped cream and less cake. It same like they cut back on their ingredients. So disappointed, is not the same Shilla I known.

Jene: So I went into shillas bakery today looking for some breakfast and I got the egg and cheese. The egg was not very warm but the croissant was buttery and delicious. I also had a coconut macaroon was was yummy. I think this is a good bakery and I will be back :) Edit: So I went Back and it was great I brought a delicious crossiant with strawberry pastry cream and my god it was amazing thank you for making delicious pastries ✨

Rust Rivera: The cafe is okay, but the area is old and trashed were all over the mall side walks. We walked in a small section crowded with shelves of breads and bakes and people shopping and others lined up to order drinks at the cafe. Chaotic, then two employees started to spray cleaning solutions on one of the shelves. The smell was strong enough to get you moving out of their way. The cafe area is a bit bigger and with more open space. They need to rearrange their store, so it’s not that chaotic. Bakes are pricey but good. We’ll surely come back here. Yum!
Response: Dear Rust Rivera, thank you for your feedback. Our passion is to bake delicious baked goods for our guests. We are happy that you enjoyed them! In terms of cleanliness and sanitation, we implement policies prioritizing such matters to the utmost. We hope to see you soon!

ziniya zahedi: Shilla Bakery is my favorite.... Going there for years and the taste never changed..... their cakes, cream buns, and chicken croquettes are to die for..... Update after a year: nothing changed. Still love them. Yum yum!
Response: Dear ziniya zahedi, thank you for your feedback. We are so happy to hear that you enjoy the chicken curry croquette. Our passion is to provide memorable experiences through our baked goods and drinks, so your message is very uplifting. We hope to see you soon!

Q: Very light cakes with very full in cream and taste. Flavors are somewhat light and not heavy to digest. Variety of cakes all great for the choosing. Parking lot is so small and tight. But, we usually do the pick up so it is what it is. Service and the staff are friendly and nice. They are our #1 choice for Bday cakes for family. So we are there 8x of the year for bday cakes not including other purchases. A must go and decent value in prices with a great to go box.

C F: Just purchased and had delivered a fresh cream fruit cake. It was beautiful and tasty!! The fruit was fresh and the cake was so light and delicious. The outside is a fresh whipped cream consistency and not crazy sweet which was exactly what I was looking for so you could taste the fruit and vanilla cake. It was delivered in a really cool cake box which kept the whole cake in perfect condition. Our whole family loved it! I will purchase again!!
Response: Dear C F, thank you for your feedback. Our fresh cream fruit cakes is one of the classics, and we love baking it for our guests. Your description matches what we try to achieve perfectly. Thank you and we hope to see you soon!

Daniel Capobianco: Genuinely one of my favorite places on earth. I always get the Shilla Omelette, but the pastries are great as well. The aroma of the store in the morning when they are putting all the warm pastries out is heavenly.

Brandon Richardson: One of my fave spots. The Mango roll is one of favorites. The honey plum tea is also amazing! Great spot for bingsoo too! Perfect for my sweet tooth! Coming from LA Annandale's little Korea atmosphere is exactly what I need 😊

ALEXXXANDRIA 1313: I WAS CRAVING SUSHI AND HAD SEEN HIGH REMARKS ABOUT THIS PLACE ON SOCIAL MEDIA SO I WENT. EXPECTING TO SIT DOWN AND EAT THEY’RE ONLY OPEN FOR TAKEOUT! BUMMER! BUT THAT DIDN’T STOP ME FROM GIVING THIS PLACE A GO. I ordered 2 rolls, an avocado salad, eel + ikura + mackerel sashimi and shrimp/veggie tempura. Everything was great. 10/10 for Presentation!!! They even have alcohol for sale (TO GO). Definitely adding this spot to my list Hopefully they return to dine-in service soon because if their TO GO looks/tastes this good I could only imagine how the experience is sitting inside the place enjoying the food.

Majo Lares: The sushi was great! We ordered different times of sushi, and all of them were good and fresh .

Mischa: As far as sushi goes, the prices are fairly good, and the quality and taste is also good…I just wish they would have more Japanese craft beers! This place is nice, though, so try it if you like sushi and or sake!

Patrick Savoia: Nice little sushi place where you can expect to get a good meal. Staff is usually very friendly and the service can be quick. You won’t be disappointed when you leave.

Luna BD: I came 2 years ago to DC and found this place. Now that I came back for 3 days, I had all my meals there. That is how much I liked it. Rolls are filled with fish rather than too much rice. Perfect ratio. The Capital roll was my favorite: filled with 4 types of fish and covered in avocado and eel. Delicious. Will be back when I'm in DC again and will definitely recommend to anyone that likes sushi. Service is very fast. The temperature is cold but I guess that is good for the fish, so bring a jacket if you need to.

Christoph Reiner: The food was outstanding. We couldn't have been happier with the quality, freshness, and portion size of the sushi. We went for the sashimi boat and every piece of fish was excellent and generously sized. The restaurant only offered take-out at the time of our visit.

Amritha: Was @ Momiji for lunch on a Sunday. We, a party of 2 walked in during late afternoon and were seated right away. Service was good and the food was also good. Would visit again. Ambiance and decor : 4/5 Location and access : 4/5 Service: 4/5 Food taste and quality: 4/5 Cost : $$ ($60 for lunch for 2 with drinks) Worth the $ : yes We ordered cold sake and it was really good. Appetizers were tasty. Loved the sweetie rolls sushi from their signature sushi list. Did not like the “dynamite” sushi rolls much. Must try their white tuna for appetizers. Would visit again 👍

Gabriel jimenez: I order the Rainbow and the crazy roll. I recommend this place.

Ekaterina Mateorova: It was delicious! A huge portion of the freshest fish! the quality of the fish is at a very high level. This portion of Chirashi dinner can feeds two. It is so difficult to find a good restaurant when you have a trip. Momiji was the best chose for my family yesterday.

Louis C: Went here because of the high rating.Fast service, reasonably friendly. Not sure why they’re still closed inside. The sushi was not very good though. Nice presentation but it was mostly flavorless. Texture was ok. Really a pretty “meh” meal overall. Try someplace else imho.

Tout De Sweet Pastry Shop: what do users think?

Eileen Coxe: Super cute pastry shop. Everything looks amazing. Coffee is good and so are the pastries. Would recommend going here to get some small bites and coffee.

P I: Incredible croissants and European style pasties. A must if you're in the area. Growing up overseas I often have a hard time finding pasties that compare. This bakery shop does it right!

Rachael Houston-Carter: I ordered macarons for my baby shower hostesses as gifts and not only were they delicious but they came wrapped beautifully with the perfect color ribbon as well! Highly recommend!

ShinGoonMin: Sweet discovery! We've been watching those fancy dessert-making shows on Netflix, and we felt so thrilled to find an actual "pâtisserie" in the next town over that seemed so promising. We dropped by to check it out. The shop was easy to find, although parking right in front of it may be a bit challenging. The shop was big enough to have a few sit-down tables. It was airy, bright, and clean. The selection, displayed so neatly, did not disappoint us visually...everything looked so decadent and mouth-watering. Once we've tasted our orders, we knew that we've hit the jackpot! We've found a perfectly sweet spot that we wouldn't mind going back to... The flavors that sounded so rich and fancy proved to be so. It was money well-spent. We actually ordered several more to-go!

Cintia Cantuária: Very friendly staff, although small quantity. Would give 5 stars if food (quiche, deserts, and cappuccino) were more flavorful and quiches were served warmer. Almond croissant is really good though!

Jennifer Lang: Delightful. I have been in Bethesda in a hotel for a long period for work. Breakfast has been a challenge. No more. Stopped here for desserts for colleagues a couple weeks ago. Came back for breakfast. Bit pricy but great coffee, perfect fruit and and an amazing pastry in a zen little spot w cheerful counter service.

Kailee Sebastian-Mixx: Quality, skilled baking here. We mostly order custom cakes and special orders from them -- the quality is excellent and pastries and cakes both delicious and attractive. If we were to choose one, the pastries would be on the better side. That said, we think the custom orders are better than the mass produced regular menu items.

Zain Ibrahim: Consistently awesome service! Everything here is super tasty, definitely a must try if you are in Bethesda

Armen Danielyan: Ordered large cappuccino with whole milk. Neither was it large nor did it taste like whole milk or espresso.

Wendy Molina: Hands down the best pastry shop in all Bethesda at this time. Dec 2021Try the almond croissant, Eclair and opera pastry.

Donburi: what do users think?

Rose Muise: We both ordered the Sakedon and did all but lick the bowl clean! The simplicity and cleanliness of the first floor gave me the sense that my food was about to be GREAT- and I was entirely correct. I ordered to go and then got delayed on my way out the door so my food sat for an extra 15 minutes before I got to it. I was nervous about how the salmon would taste with the delay, but the way that the bowl was packaged with the fish separate from the rice was the perfect level of protection. The quality of the food was excellent for the price. Every component was intentional and with the perfect ratio. The salmon seemed to be great quality so there was no need to hide it under piles of unnecessary toppings. I am truly looking forward to coming back to try out the rest of the menu.

Hilda Kroll: I really enjoyed the Ebi Katsudon. The shrimp was delicious, the rice piping hot, and the egg well cooked to order. Very nice staff. Seating is up a flight of stairs.

Naile Ruiz: The katsu coating was a little too flakey, but I enjoyed the dish! The curry was very runny and flavorful. The radish cut the strong flavor gracefully. Enjoyed it! The restaurant is located on the second floor and they're doing construction on the building on the right so if you're not careful you might miss it. Contact-less ordering is done whe. You walk in. There are tables for indoor dining one or two flights up from that floor.

Mohan Sun: We got dinner here and the food is very solid. We ordered pork butt and mixed katsu don. Both are very flavorful and perfectly cooked. A big shoutout to the staff too. I forgot my purse there. They called and waited for me even though it already passed the closing time. Very nice and hardworking folks. I would definitely go back.

Sharon: Delicious! Nice fast dining experience and incredibly yummy :) Staff was also so friendly. Loved the variety in my meal as well, I will definitely be back! Just note this was the perfect amount for me (a pretty small person), but might not be enough for someone with a larger appetite.

Onyinyechi A: The 3 star rating is about my entire experience. So first when you walk in and have two digital kiosk to fill out your order. You then pay and go up either one or two floors and pick a seat. Unbeknownst to me, I then had to go back downstairs and pick up my food. I assumed they would at least bring it to the table or call my number but instead after waiting some time I saw others heading downstairs to go get their food. Then there are no condiments on the 2nd of 3rd floor so if you need more soy sauce or salad dressing you have to go back to the first floor to get it. The table was sticky, the bench seat moved with you. The food was good but the experience was lackluster. If I come back here I will just get take out. At least when I get home everything will be on the same floor.

Mr. R: For any of those who love "coco ichibanya's curry in Japan, this place isn't quite it, but its the closest I've tasted whilst in the continental United States thus far. Give them a try!

Grayson: Great tasting food, very small portion size. $20 + tax for this… Most Japanese restaurants in DC offer more sashimi along with rice and miso soup than Donburi for the same price. Picture is without any bites taken.

baba stephan: Nice meal, but a bit expensive , small portion, 20$ for a meal and a coke add 10% tips and you serve yourself... it should be around 12$ it is the real price all around the world... even less in Japan

Derek Kim: Very good signature dish! Salmon tasted little off but everything else was good!

Pluma by Bluebird Bakery: what do users think?

Vijay Joshi: I absolutely love Pluma. I steadily made my way through the menu after living nearby for a year. Their baked goods are fantastic (pistachio croissant and morning bun especially), but I really adore Pluma for their breakfast/lunch food. Having tried mainstays (Croque madame, avo toast, breakfast sammy's, etc.) and seasonal specialties (ramp toast, fried chicken sandwich), I was consistently enamored with the meals. Their breakfast sammy #2 goes craaaazy with the double fennel sausage, the Croque madame was the best I've ever had, and the fried chicken sandwich blew me away given the sheer proportions, herbal flavor explosions, and immaculate bread. Also, definitely try the hot sauces they keep by the utensils. Since they're a bakery, of course, their bread is top-notch, but they also source the rest of their ingredients exceptionally. While not cheap, Pluma always felt like a great use of money, unlike Union Market around the corner where everything feels overpriced. A couple of notes: they only serve food-to-go, and since the kitchen is not their main purpose, hot food can take a little while. Be patient, and good things will come.
Response: Thank you so much for your kind words Vijay. This is why we do what we do, and we love to hear that the love and dedication that we put into our bakery is so well received. We hope to have you as a customer for many more years to come!

Hannah Hunt: Excellent cardamom morning bun and overall experience. There is a good variety of pastries available to order. This was my first time but I definitely plan to come back. The inside was also beautiful, really nice atmosphere.
Response: Thank you so much! We are so glad you had an enjoyable experience and hope to see you back soon.

Stephanie Carter: Very charming coffee shop. Cute atmosphere, but the coffee could have been hotter, and the quiche I had was just okay (though I think the flavor combo just didn't suit me). Savory scones were great!
Response: Thank you! We hope to see back again soon to try more of our pastries and discover which ones you like best. Insider tip: ask for your coffee extra hot 😉

Shane Seeman: Good slice of quiche and good mocha.Service was slow and inaccurate. Gave my slice to someone who ordered at least five minutes after me, and overheard they gave away someone else's whole pie to the wrong person.
Response: A bit short staffed this morning. Sorry for the chaotic moment. Glad you enjoyed the food.

Chanpen Tee: The place looks so nice and clean. The staff is friendly. And chocolate croissants is good. I will tey their coffee next time.

Celestino Garcia: This coffee shop is dope. The coffee is a great and the pastries are A1. Breakfast sandwich is pretty good too.

Shelbi Svoboda: Pluma is an elegant bakery that the NE didn't know we needed! The pastries are fresh and brought out of their open kitchen to the front counters throughout your time so there's always something new and fresh to try. The latte ($4) is possibly the best I've had in DC. The breakfast sammy has port belly, pesto, and an egg open faced on delicious - if hard to cut - bread for $9.5. I highly recommend the avocado toast with an egg ($5.5 plus egg). Seating is limited so probably not wise for a group over four.

Meg Voorhis: Upscale bakery and coffee spot in the greater union market corridor. Fresh savory vegetarian options and good bread, but a bit pricy (~$50 lunch for 4 items) and service from the made to order menu was slow.

Hannah Yoo: Best pastries in the city!! Seriously I always try to stop in for a bite then end up eating the entire pastry case. I especially love the croissants and morning buns, and they also have beautiful salads and yummy pizzas. Also love that it’s a small business owned by locals. Love spending all day here drinking coffee and catching up with friends on weekends. Neighborhood gem!
Response: Thank you so much for your kind words! We love our customers and couldn’t do it without you.

Alex: This breakfast sandwich is honestly one of the best in DC. Freshly made bun + tender, sweet, salty pork belly + perfectly cooked egg. Amazing.
Response: Thank you so much for your kind words! We are so happy you enjoyed and look forward to seeing you again soon!
