Sky Above Great Wind Zen: what do users think?

Kris Herbst: I loved learning the basics of Zen mediation and practice from the Sensei Susan Efird, who is warm and welcoming presence. She encouraged me to participate fully in the weekly sessions. In her short Dharma talks, she is both knowledgeable and wise as she speaks from her heart, making zen relatable to my everyday life choices. The weekly sessions with her Zendo group, in a beautiful wood chapel space, were an island of peace and mindfulness that I treasured.

Karin Hillhouse: Sky Above is a perfect place to explore traditional Zen: sitting that is just sitting, walking that is just walking, chanting that is just chanting. And... “as if your life depends on it.” Through regular talks on classic koans (the thousands-of-years-old riddles of Zen), the Heart Sutra, and Master Dogen’s writings, KoDo makes concrete, everyday life come alive in astonishing (boundless) ways. We see a few lines of Japanese calligraphy written in a sprig of Nandina leaves on the altar. We recognize the floorboards as an enduring gift from the carpenter who laid them and the countless others who brought trees from the forest. We understand that “Zen is life.” We are amazed. And we are grateful. Thank you, Sky Above!

Kelsang Pagma: Beautiful and very blessed! A truly incredible place to contemplate and meditate on heartfelt and practical teachings from Gen Demo and other Teachers while making connections with others traveling spiritual paths.

Robert Wolski: We had a wonderful time. Everyone was very nice, and made us feel very comfortable and welcome with it being our first visit.

Sara Blackburn: I went on a weekend retreat to KMC DC and it was wonderful. It was worth the drive down from Philadelphia. The temple is beautiful and easy to access. It is a very open place with welcoming people. The teachings and meditations were uplifting and contemporary. I was able to take what was taught and apply it to my life. It is a good place to go to heal and grow.

Amy Buttell: Kadampa Meditation Center - DC offers a quiet oasis of peace from stress and conflict. Located in the vibrant SW, near to the National’s Ballpark, KMC-DC offers a wide variety of classes, retreats and chanted prayers. Gen Demo, the resident teacher, provides profound teachings with grace and humor that directly apply to modern life. I moved to the DC area in May and found KMC-DC very welcoming. Every time I attend a class or retreat, I learn methods that I can immediately apply to my life to help reduce stress and anxiety. I’m very happy to be a part of this community and hope that thousands more in the DC area will learn about us and benefit from the timeless nature of Buddha’s teachings.

M D: Literally my new favorite place. The wisdom is life giving.

William Toriello: The Teacher, Gen Demo, gave practical teachings that opened my mind. I walked away with some profound teachings that I was able to take home and continue to use as a morning meditation. The guided meditations were very inspiring giving me the feeling of inner peace. Her teachings are light, to the point and mixed with humor.

Eli Campbell: This Meditation Center is great, and with locations across the DC Area from Capitol Hill to Adams Morgan their classes are really easy to catch any day of the week! The teachers are knowledgeable and work with you to find your personal path, and the seasonal workshops are always a treat if you can make it!

Kate Moore: I have been going here on and off for a couple of years but decided to start going more often. I try to go as much as possible. Everyone is very nice and understanding. Sometimes I go on Saturday at 3 or in the evenings but mostly during the day. I talked with Rose and she was very helpful. The Monks will sit with you personally if you get in touch with Rose or May. They really helped me built consistency in my practice. I hope to see you there.

Larry Brown: During one of their day retreats I had one of the greatest experiences of my Life!💡

US Zen Institute: what do users think?

Jiayin Liu: It is the best place for meditation and to explore the mind by practicing Buddha’s teachings. Ven. Dhammadipa is a friendly and very knowledgeable teacher. I am so grateful for all the opportunities to learn meditation from him and the meditation retreats that I attended truly changed my life in the best way. The community is also very positive and the monastic members are all friendly and nice people. I feel nothing but appreciation of this place. Highly recommend going here.

Krystal Xu: I fly across the country just to attend meditation retreats at this serene place with Ven. Dhammadipa who is such a true master and role model who genuinely cares about teaching you not only great meditation technique but emotional intelligence to benefit your life regardless of your background. The monastic staff are so friendly and caring as well. If you live near, do go to the regular meditation sessions and classes! This temple also has a beautiful Buddha hall. Although it’s a humble place, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Jo Zhou: So many reasons for me to drive 40min regularly from DC to come here for medication. The teacher provides structured and systematic instructions that was hugely helpful for me to gain a more well rounded understanding of meditation and make improvements. The teachings are also friendly to other religions or in my case people with no religion. The meditation hall is beautiful and serene. The other monastic members and staff here are super nice and welcoming as well.

Donna Blaszczyk: I am so grateful to have completed another retreat at this center. Everyone there is patient and caring. I feel their ultimate goal is for each and every meditator to gain as much benefits as they can from their practice. Beginners as well as more advanced meditators are in very good company with Ven. Dhammadipa as he is an amazing teacher as well as a lovely person... a learned PhD scholar with an ability to explain the practice in a way that makes it all come together. Truly a gem.

Shawyoo Xu: The real place to learn about the tire concept of Buddha and meet great teacher for meditation! Change your mind and change your life, for real!

Shanlien Hsu: Good place to rest your mind and give it a break. Also a nice place to learn Buddha teaching in English or Chinese.

Tina Lin: I love this place. I learn meditation from here.

Yei Thek Wang: Nice place :)
