Kadampa Meditation Center DC - OFFERING IN PERSON AND ONLINE CLASSES: what do users think?

Kelsang Pagma: Beautiful and very blessed! A truly incredible place to contemplate and meditate on heartfelt and practical teachings from Gen Demo and other Teachers while making connections with others traveling spiritual paths.

Robert Wolski: We had a wonderful time. Everyone was very nice, and made us feel very comfortable and welcome with it being our first visit.
Response: Thank you for checking us out and for the nice comment :)

Sara Blackburn: I went on a weekend retreat to KMC DC and it was wonderful. It was worth the drive down from Philadelphia. The temple is beautiful and easy to access. It is a very open place with welcoming people. The teachings and meditations were uplifting and contemporary. I was able to take what was taught and apply it to my life. It is a good place to go to heal and grow.

Resident Teacher: I went to this temple for its Grand Opening weekend, which was quite impressive. The external appearance is modest but clean, with a little nice landscaping (and the ornaments on the roof, which are spectacular). The meditation hall is what really shines about the building, and the community is small but welcoming, and professional. If you're looking for a place to learn about some meditation of the Buddhist variety in the DC area, this is a great one in the SW quadrant of the city.

Amy Buttell: Kadampa Meditation Center - DC offers a quiet oasis of peace from stress and conflict. Located in the vibrant SW, near to the National’s Ballpark, KMC-DC offers a wide variety of classes, retreats and chanted prayers. Gen Demo, the resident teacher, provides profound teachings with grace and humor that directly apply to modern life. I moved to the DC area in May and found KMC-DC very welcoming. Every time I attend a class or retreat, I learn methods that I can immediately apply to my life to help reduce stress and anxiety. I’m very happy to be a part of this community and hope that thousands more in the DC area will learn about us and benefit from the timeless nature of Buddha’s teachings.

M D: Literally my new favorite place. The wisdom is life giving.
Response: :) <3

William Toriello: The Teacher, Gen Demo, gave practical teachings that opened my mind. I walked away with some profound teachings that I was able to take home and continue to use as a morning meditation. The guided meditations were very inspiring giving me the feeling of inner peace. Her teachings are light, to the point and mixed with humor.

Christine Hoese: My husband and I began attending the DC mediation ctr in January as a new year's resolution to cleanse our minds and souls. Gen Demo's teachings have and continue to offer us both a great deal of spiritual advice on how to live a more peaceful life through meditation practices. By offering our kindness and generosity towards others, we learn to be better people. Our Thursday and Friday nights are no longer spent drinking at a bar. As a couple we now look forward to our meditation sessions and life teachings presented to us by our lovely Buddhist teacher Gen Demo. We even discuss that evening's mediation topic on our walk back to our house. Very productive and enriching way of life in this new year. Glad we're off to a good start.

Andre Douglas: Helping me find what I've been seeking my adult life. That's Inner Peace.
Response: Right on Andre! Thank you :)

Eli Campbell: This Meditation Center is great, and with locations across the DC Area from Capitol Hill to Adams Morgan their classes are really easy to catch any day of the week! The teachers are knowledgeable and work with you to find your personal path, and the seasonal workshops are always a treat if you can make it!

Flow Yoga Center: what do users think?

Bonnie Lessans: Flow is one of my favorite things about the neighborhood; I miss it terribly now that we are in a different neighborhood! The studio is tucked away next to Whole Foods on P Street, and the spaces are cozy. The teachers are fabulous: I have been in a class with Joan now for 3 years and can't say enough about how wonderful she is. I also have taken the prenatal yoga class on Sundays for a while, which is great with Jen! Most of the other teachers I go to (not as consistently) are also great. Everyone is well-trained and quick to help with accommodations and anything injury-related.

Melissa Luke: I adore the Flow Yoga studios. I really appreciate that the instructors recognize students trying to bust out of the 1.5 level and really become more advanced in their practices without being pushy or too demanding, but expecting improvement. I also would like to give a shout out to Anna at Flow for being the best damn heated flow instructor I've ever had. She's intense but in a great way! Clare in core is also amazing and I love/hate her for it.

justin hampton: Incredible classes and teachers for all levels of practice. The waiting area feels like a spa with its big bay windows, pillowed cushions, and fresh hot tea. The best part are the people there, both the Karma Yogi’s & Fellow practitioners, it is a wonderful community

Samantha Power: All of the classes are beautifully taught by teachers will an intention to guide, strengthen, and heal. Many classes have a spiritual dimension as well, something I was looking for when I came to Flow. I feel lucky to be a part of this amazing community!

Tierra Wilson: I’ve attended yoga sessions with Ashley Allison. I always leave feeling so renewed, strengthened, and mentally relaxed.....and the music is always good!

Luke Lukens: The most consistently excellent studio in DC. Offers a variety of styles with knowledgeable teachers in each.
Response: Wow, thank you! We hope to get you on our roster one of these days too!!!

Sandy Major: Incredible rude staff! Classes weren’t as good as advertised compared to other yoga centers. Strongly not recommended!
Response: Greetings Samkeh. I'm so sorry to hear that you had any kind of negative experience at Flow - esp. any lack of warmth or kindness from our staff. That's something we prioritize with all of our staff, and we are 100% committed to getting right. We'd be more than happy to offer you a full refund for your class/es, and would also love to hear any details about when this occurred and what happened, so that we can follow up constructively with whomever was involved on our end to get it resolved to your (and our!) satisfaction. Please contact us at your convenience at happiness@flowyogacenter.com. Kindly, the team at Flow.

Terrance Flood: I never tried yoga before but these people were really great.

Margarito Linares: (Translated by Google) Well for the whole community I have never been to this place but I would like it. Be training stand up of this community to overcome. My energies from my body and thus leave always successful in everything that I intend (Original) Bien para toda la comunidad yo nunca he estado en este lugar pero me gustaria. Estar fomando parate de esta comunidad para superar. Mis energias de mi cuerpo y asi salir sienpre exitoso en todo lo que me propogo

MINDFULNESS PRACTICE CENTER OF FAIRFAX: what do users think?

Jillian Rybalsky: A beautiful sangha with fantastic teachers who practice in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn. I was unsure about how the virtual practice would be, but I was made to feel welcome and at home immediately. I couldn't more highly recommend!! 🙏

Zoe Zaret: Turn off the news and go do this! I am a self-conscious, anxious mess (previously I signed up for a daylong mindfulness retreat but didn't go because I was freaked out by the idea of bringing a vegetarian dish to share) but since my plans for the day were canceled, I figured the universe was telling me to go to the noon meditation session and I'm glad I listened. Not wierd or intimidating at all. Just an hour of calm, quiet and compassion with a few pleasant strangers. No pressure to share or expectation that you have some previous experience. Very welcoming and low key. I need this and will be back.

Katie Cannon: This is a place of calm, compassion, and healing. The teachers are superb: Ahn-Huong and Thu truly wish for everyone to find peace and joy through the practice of mindfulness. There is no pressure to reach any sort of goal; come as you are and you will be welcomed.

Catra: Nice place, I go to school here. Accepting of LGBT people which is rare for many places of religion.

Angela Brooke: Beautiful energy. The people are loving and kind. It's a wonderful place to be a peace.

Larisa Marian: I have been coming here the past 3 months almost weekly and I love it!

Alex Wong: A center full of wisdom, compassion and warmth for anyone to practice Mindfulness.

Rich: Great way to practice meditation through this organization.

Breathe Meditation: what do users think?

Mary Vargas: Breathe Meditation is my favorite way to recharge before the work week. Mahalakshmi is a brilliant teacher who engages your mind, body, and soul in quick 30 minute sessions that make you realize just how important it is to stop and breathe. I highly recommend!
Response: Thank you so much Mary 🙏

Vineeth v: I came across Breathe Meditation during the midst of a challenging COVID-19 pandemic. I found the classes to be incredibly helpful. Mahalakshmi is an awesome teacher, articulate, patient and compassionate. She teaches breathing techniques in a simple manner. I highly recommend Breathe Meditation to learn the meditative nature of breath.
Response: Thank you so much, Vineeth 🙏

Soumya Devi: Mahalakshmi / the lead instructor chakra cleansing / breath exercise has helped me to overcome stress on a great extend. Highly recommended to do atleast a couple of sessions each week. Once again, thank you Maha for trying to make a change.
Response: You are welcome, Soumya and thank you for joining classes 🙏

Resmi Capron: Positive: Professionalism, QualityI took Mahalakshmi’s pranayama class while suffering from back pain and stiffness. Listening to the ohm sounds and breathing flooded my brain with joyful thoughts and images. Her voice calmed my mind and brought me to a blissful meditative state.
Response: Thank you Resmi Capron 🙏 Happy to contribute some moments of peace and bliss to your day.

Yoga District: what do users think?

Callie Phelps: Reasonable prices and lots of different class offerings. The class was accessible and the instructor had great cues and a flow that was a good balance of effort and ease. But overall, I didn't feel very welcome for never having visited the studio before. It was unclear where the class was being held (the building has several floors with several studio rooms) and when I checked in, there was no guidance as to where to fill up water / grab props / use the restroom / place my mat. The teacher did not introduce herself and instead chatted with students it seemed she was already quite close with.

daniel nathan: Yoga District is the perfect yoga studio. They have a wide variety of classes, and there is always something available that you would like. The instructors are incredibly clear, and sufficiently demanding. I have been taking classes from Fran at 14th St. for about 10 years, and she never fails to simulate. Her explanations are easy to follow, and she provides many options. And she’s just a great person.

Eila Wichern: I took an Alignment Flow class (Beginner/Intermediate) on 6/21/2016 at the 14th street location. The regular instructor was out, but our substitute Andrew was absolutely wonderful. I'm not in great shape, so the class was perhaps more strenuous than I was anticipating, but throughout the 75 minutes Andrew was helpful and supportive while leading us through a challenging (for me) routine. Andrew created a safe and positive space, and I thoroughly enjoyed my class -- it left me feeling strong, grounded, and relaxed. I'm not a DC resident, but I would love to take more classes with Andrew, I won't hesitate to return to Yoga District when I visit the city in the future. Also, classes are reasonably priced, and booking/payment was a simple process.

eimear holton: Nice, clean, and welcoming studio. Yoga district has excellent teachers offering a wide range of classes all over the city! Plus quite inexpensive compared to most!

Stephanie Pratt: Love yoga district - very affordable compared to other studios in DC. In addition, they truly live the practice of yoga - practicing ahimsa, being kind to others, and building community. I took yoga teacher training here, and I am so happy I did. I have learned so much and have met so many wonderful people because of that experience. looking forward to spending more time with the yoga district family.

Tiffany Thompson: Are you new to yoga and totally lost as to what it means to "flow into down dog?" Great! Are you a practiced veteran looking to deepen your practice? Equally fantastic! Are you a broke person living in DC who thought that you'd never be able to afford to go to yoga and also eat? This is your place- the reasonable prices and ENORMOUS class selection make it possible to actually practice yoga without going broke! The instructors are amazing. I was immediately impressed by Shahrooz, who walked our small class in the I Street location through the basics of every pose. He was patient and seemed to care deeply that our practice meant something that day. I suspect that's how he teaches every class and I will be attending as many of his as possible. Honestly, Yoga District embodies what it means to truly practice yoga. Everyone's journey is different but for me, the core tenets of a successful practice are inclusivity, instruction, guidance, and accessibility. Yoga District has a policy supporting all of those and more- they preach community and they practice it here too. Go get your Namaste on here!

Natasha Hansen: Andreas Friday evening class is a great way to unwind into the weekend. central location and lots of natural light in the studio!

Hannah Milward: WARNING - DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS If you are signing up for their one month trial - PAY CASH. If you have already paid for a *one off* using credit card - check your statement immediately. They have been taking $97 each month from my credit card since June (from a card I hardly use except for parking) and therefore hardly check up on. I was only in Washington for one week... over $300 for 3 classes is essentially what I have payed for. I was utterly shocked to see how much had been taken without any contract, permission or authorization. And after looking at Yelp - it looks like this has happened to others. I was even more shocked that my emails have been viewed a number of times with NO apology, no response, no attempt to communicate whatsoever. Fraud committed by a company who, in theory, should be running in line with Yoga values. (Like not stealing and doing no harm) feels worse than fraud committed by some big corporate.
Response: Hi! Our membership terms are laid out in an online agreement that members e-sign. Although it is a pretty standard membership to most, just like at any yoga studio or gym, we apologize if this upset you or if you didn’t read the agreement you signed. We respond to account issues by email and we work hard to make things right - all of this supports our nonprofit mission to keep yoga accessible!

I McM: As a complete beginner this place has been super welcoming. Not absurdly expensive, chill, and a good guided class that understands that bodies have limits. Every teacher has a different vibe but they all have good skills!

Jaime Buzzeo: I attended teacher training with Yoga District and loved every minute of it. I also love the variety of classes Yoga District offers. It is the most affordable yoga in the district.
Response: Thank you, Jaime!

Dream Yoga Studio & Wellness: what do users think?

Donna Amedeo: This is a studio with years of experience and skill. This is not your pop up yoga studio. It is one with instructors who will guide you towards your goals. Your sessions will go beyond the typical 45 minute rush of most yoga classes as you have proper warm ups, stretches and relaxation lasting beyond an hour or more. I have been with Dream for over a decade and would not consider another studio even if it were free!

Chrissy Henderson: I love Dream Yoga! I was lucky enough to find Dream about 5 or 6 years ago - and I feel that the studio, the owner, and the community have had a strong, positive influence on my life. I was fortunate to have Luann and staff help guide me through many phases of my life so far: first, trying to become pregnant; then, through 2 healthy pregnancies; and now, into Mommy-hood! I have explored many different class options. Including Stretch and Strengthen, Restorative, Moderate, and a Toddler class with my daughter. I always leave Dream feeling like I just had an hour and a half massage at a Spa (at a fraction of the cost!). I hope to continue to go to Dream Yoga throughout many more phases of my life. And I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a great yoga studio in a supportive environment. Namaste.

Susan Youshock Pruyn: In these past 20 years I have been to many studios in several different states. When we moved to VA and I found Dream Yoga, it felt like home! A place where I am encouraged to be me and expand on my yoga practice first and foremost. Luann, the owner, has so much experience to share and a light-hearted approach to make the classes very expansive and fun. My family loves it so much that two of my three teenagers also attend. And, my husband has been to their open house and felt so at home that he is also considering a class. A must try if you live in the area!

Laura Eldridge: Having just practiced yoga on my own for a couple of months (no classes under my belt), I went to Dream in January 2013 for their Intro to Yoga Class taught by the owner, Luann. Dream is such a welcoming space and Luann has a way of teaching that is both fun & compassionate, plus she brings such a wise yogic perspective to every class - I knew I would be coming back. Since then, I've signed up for weekly classes every session and every teacher is wonderful! There's a nice mix of slow or beginners' classes and more challenging ones. Dream has a great policy for making up classes you've missed in a session or if you simply want to explore and try those you haven't signed up for - it's refreshingly flexible. All the classes have an emphasis on moving with your breath and using your breath as a way to focus the mind, as well as being aware of how you feel and staying in the present moment. I'd recommend Dream to anyone, whether you're new to yoga, or a seasoned yogi / yogini.

Steve Marcom: I have been doing yoga for years, off and on taking classes. I am at the age where I qualify for senior preferences. So, I am most appreciative of a healthy body all day long. When I get up, yoga helps me stretch out everything that shrunk up or got achy during the night. Having a session with Luann once or twice a week awakens those areas of my body that need more attention. What I like about Dream Yoga is the personal attention to my individual needs and progress. Also, the spiritual element - having my body at peace during and after the practice. The props are well stocked, the room is a good size and, being in McLean, very convenient to my house. I have experienced several teachers at Dream Yoga - all praiseworthy. My wife started with Dream Yoga, and I am grateful that she encouraged me to give it a try. Now, I am a regular and grateful. My wife takes the gentle classes, and I take the intermediate. There are many opportunities for special classes to focus on different aspects. Highly recommended.

Catha Pavloff: Over the past 8 years, I have practiced various styles of yoga in many studios throughout Northern Virginia area. I have enjoyed aspects of all of them. But, my experience at Dream, a Kripalu affiliated studio, has been significantly different from the others. Dream is welcoming to students of all-and I mean all!- ages, demographics and experience levels-especially those who are new to yoga and to meditation.Students are encouraged (inspired!) to truly take time to explore self-awareness as they are led through the physical - or less physical, depending on the class- practice. The teachers, led by Luann Fulbright, one of the best teachers I've ever had, are talented and trained in leading this style of yoga. You truly "tune out" to "tune in". Dream yoga is an oasis from what our stressed out, hurried culture now knows as "daily living". But, they go a step further by providing you with the tools you need to live more fulfilling lives once you leave class. In fact, you leave feeling like you just got a great big bear hug-which by the way, Luann readily offers! To me, Dream is the real deal. Dream is real yoga.

Dolly G. Mastrangelo: I have been going to Dream Yoga for about three years now. I cannot imagine life without it! The Strengthen and Stretch class is perfect! Luann is so wonderful guiding us though stretches and poses. Pushing us gently but reminding us that our body tells us what we can do. Each class explores different areas. All building on each other. It truly makes the problems of the world evaporate in the peace of the class. I look forward to increasing my abilities and I am sure that Luann and Dream Yoga will get me there!

Vinson Hall Retirement Community: I tried out Dream Yoga studio in my search for a new way to exercise. I went to one of the evening Stretch & Strengthen classes and really enjoyed myself. The instructor was incredibly nice and helpful. She went about 15 minutes over the class time because we were all in the zone. My legs felt alot better after class. My only qualm is that this studio doesn't seem to have a "hot" bikram class. Being a type-A runner, I'm looking for a class to get me sweaty and exhausted after a work out. This might be the right place for someone looking to get relaxed and loosened up. I would go back for sure if I felt tense and needed some good R&R.

Karrie McMillan: Love this studio. Used to go regularly and then "life" intervened. Trying to get back because it really made each day so much better.

Brahma Kumaris Meditation Museums: what do users think?

alapati venkatesh: A quiet place on a busy street to have some quiet time. The displays were very good. Good place to learn meditation.

T L: Nice free meditation classes. Great for someone the is new into the meditation and is trying to learn to meditate.

Thomas Dooley: Been a part of this group over 10 years. What I have learned that peace is inside of me and through meditation I learn how to tap into it.

Sameer Jain: The classes and events offered in the museum help you understand Who You truly are with practical tips to implement and thereby adding a greater value to your day to day life. The museum has exhibits of different religions and faith traditions which fosters a greater understanding of other cultures and faiths.

M B: Artificial, sterile, unfriendly, unwelcoming, cold environment.

Umesh Kashkari: This is our 2nd year since we started attending sunday classes at Tysons and apart from that have attended many other classes both at Tysons and Meditation Museum, MD. Very refreshing and one learns a lot as regards day to day life, dealing with the people, serving others etc.,

Jenna Claesen: Their free events/talks are wonderful! If you are looking for a moment of peace...if you are looking to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you, this is a good place to begin. The address listed on google is old, so be sure to go to their website for info.

vijay mehta: I visited this place a few years ago and took RajYoga course. Since then I visited on many occasions at both Silver Spring and Tyson Corner centers. It offers many useful techniques of meditation which is helpful in daily life. It is run by friendly and experienced staff.

Usha Gollapalli: This is a wonderful place that taught me to see the good in others, how to perform service, and, in general how to be a more peaceful person. I definitely recommend coming here to learn more about meditation!

R W: I would not classify the Meditation Museum as a museum since there is very little artwork to behold; however, from my visits, it is clear that it is an introduction into the New Age belief system via the workshops offered and general philosophies.

The Mindfulness Center: what do users think?

Lloydie Zaiser: I have been attending classes offered by The Mindfulness Center for several years now. In the beginning, I used to fit the classes in, as I could, in my full-time work schedule. Now I fit work in around my center classes! All classes and instructors have been wonderful but John King, the teacher of a twice weekly Meditation class I attend, is particularly spectacular. He mixes his approaches up and I feel I am getting stronger in my meditation techniques with each passing session. The other class participants are really fun and loving. We have formed quite a bond and sincerely enjoy each other's company. Thank you, Mindfulness Center, for helping me to find and keep my balance during these trying, ever changing times.

aneesa hameed: Walking on the path of healing Personal Notes from London, England. Sitting in Regent’s Park last week on a glorious summer evening I checked in with myself, asked how I felt in the immediate now and sensed a beautiful stillness. How different this was to the anxiety, tension, pain, despair and agitation I felt seven months ago. This feeling of warmth and ease nudged me to remember with deep gratitude, The Mindfulness Center in Bethesda. This haven with its beautiful studio and highly accomplished teachers, mentors and therapists. As Dr. Debbie Norris, the Founder explained, that The Mindfulness Center, wellness and alternate therapy, is more than just a place of healing, it is an intervention or Interception to prevent future ill health and mental conditions. She is one of the most inspiring and exhilarating teachers with a grand personality, that I have met. Special thank you to all the teachers I was fortunate to be taught by; to Tania and her inspiring discussions of Spring and earth energies during our yoga sessions, to Robin for her therapeutic approach to yoga with ease, her beautiful voice chanting mantras of universal love and peace, to Ashira whose empathy, gentleness and softness overwhelmed me in her gentle yoga classes, to John King with his delightful guided meditations that unchained the imagination, to the supremely gifted Reiki Grand Master Aurora Hutchinson whose passion for Mary Oliver’s poetry I share, to James Foulkes whom I met once at a workshop conducted by Aurora and himself, but sensed the healer in him - but - most of all to Michael Basdavanos. Mike reduced the pain from my ankle and foot almost to nothing with his Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapy. I learned balance and grounding in his QiGong and Tai Chi classes and special breathing techniques during his Meditation hour. Most of all with his quiet but very powerful energy healing, he brought me back my feelings and sense of self-worth and self-acceptance. Much love, light and blessings to all and may success always ride alongside The Mindfulness Center.

Joan Hurley: The Mindfulness Center has improved my outlook on life. I had no idea that I would be able to separate myself from thoughts that weren’t helpful to me by taking several deep breaths. Then I make the choice about how much attention I will pay to the thought. It’s a choice I can make. It’s also helpful when I have procedures like taking staples from my head. The last five years of my life have been full of joy from this practice.
Response: Joan we are so thankful that we had the opportunity to work with you. Thanks for the review!

Alexandra C: Absolutely thankful for their continued and consistently high-quality services. The owner, Dr. Norris, has profound knowledge on all subjects pertaining to alternative medicine, as well as all services offered at TMC. I have partaken in both the SOMA Meditation Teacher Training, as well as the Yoga Alliance 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training programs. As much as I am looking forward to in-person sessions again, I am privileged to participate in various classes, courses and workshops, via Zoom.
Response: Thank you Alexandra for the amazing review and being apart of TMC family!

Molly Hauck: I just went to Deborah Norris' meditation weekend. As usual, it was relaxing and informative, and helped me move toward incorporating meditation in my personal life and my psychology practice on a regular basis. Debbie is an excellent teacher and a beautiful person who has created a special meditation program for people in this area and everywhere, through the online program. In addition to providing training in mindfulness for people in the classes at the Mindfulness Center, they provide mindfulness training for vets and for people in schools in Montgomery County free of charge. Deborah Norris, Ph.D.., psychologist, is the founder, and she has taken no salary for the 10 years that the Mindfulness Center has existed because she believes in its value. 2021 update: I am so sad that the Mindfulness Center had to close its physical space but glad that they continue to function virtually. They are a special place and their practitioners are excellent. I can't recommend them highly enough and am eager for covid to end so they can have a physical space again.
Response: Reviews like this are so very special. You took a great deal of time to write this to share with others so they know what to expect when working with the Mindfulness Center. Thank you so much for being a client and reviewing us.

nirupama sista: The Mindfulness Center is a wonderful place and has many yoga classes at all levels. Teachers are superb, especially Dave, and the community is very friendly. I have attended their meditation classes and would like to attend more, if my schedule permits. They also have massage services which I have been meaning to take advantage of. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to be practice mindful yoga.

Laura DeVita: I went to The Mindfulness Center for the first time for corporate wellness with my co-workers and boss! Great experience!! I decided to go back on my own to do hypnosis with Aurora and it was so peaceful and I felt so much lighter when I left! Then I went back for acupuncture with Jim! I've been wanting to try acupuncture for years but was nervous and kind of skeptical! Let me just say - WOW! It was amazing - start to finish and I left feeling amazing and so relaxed! I can't wait to go back and I am hooked from the first appointment! I recommend The Mindfulness Center for everything you need! They will exceed your expectations! Everyone is so amazing there! I can't say enough good things!
