Great Wall Szechuan House: what do users think?

Anthony Stewart: Generous portions and food doesn’t take too long to reach the table; as a vegetarian, I was glad to see many options. Unfortunately, they delivered one portion of my meal with meat, even though it was ordered vegetarian. I thought it tasted funny, but I didn’t want to make an issue when I was unsure. By the third bite, I was certain and even spat out the meat into my napkin to inspect the rather large chunk of it. (Needless to say, I had to excuse myself from the table for a moment.) I mentioned it to the waitress and she “handled” it. Handling it meant that they apologized and brought a new, vegetarian version out and assured me that all was in order. They still charged me instead of simply taking it off of my bill. If they’d done that, I’d go back, but since they didn’t, I won’t be going back. Pity. They chose $1.95 one time instead of absorbing the cost and having me return dozens of times over the next few years. Oh, well!

Haleigh Eppler: Great neighborhood spot for take out Chinese. I love the ma la menu for that mouth numbing spice. I always mean to take a picture but find myself devouring my food first. The meifun options are also well made. I haven’t had the American Chinese food here so can’t speak to that.

MrMrs K: I love this place. If possible, Great Wall, please stop limiting your DoorDash delivery radius. Door Dash generally delivers anywhere but your page routinely is either not accepting delivery orders at all OR says my house is too far.

timliu75 tim: We had a high hope to get some decent Szechuan dishes from this place, but the dishes come out at average levels. We ordered the Tofu Fish Fillet with Spicy Sauce, but the Tofu cubes were bland. The fish-flavored eggplants were a little greasy. I think their American-Chinese dishes might worth trying.

Peter Ahn: First and last time ordering from this place. Ordered mapo tofu with pork and rice to go. After opening it at home, tofu looked too chunky when mapo tofu supposed to show cottage cheese like appearance but with silkier texture. Spat it back out after swallowing only a little bit of the first bite immediately followed by rinsing my mouth. Somehow it smells and tastes like some harsh chemical like Windex or something. DC health department needs to be involved.

Sean Holland: Confirmed our order and kept us waiting for 30 minutes before they canceled it. Also one time we ordered and they were obviously out of chicken because they literally gave us store-bought frozen chicken nuggets in our dishes.

Sichuan Pavilion: what do users think?

Jarron Brady: I had a really pleasant experience here. Everything I had was well cooked and had a ton of flavor. The general tso’s chicken was my favorite (fried so well). The Mongolian beef was also really flavorful as well. The service was very warm too. Definitely returning

Brandon Sousa: Loved this place! This is the high quality, reasonably priced Chinese restaurant I’ve been looking for in DC for years. I thought the food was great quality, not too Americanized (though not completely traditional either). Staff were friendly and very attentive, and wildly efficient. After we put orders in, the food was out in five minutes, maybe ten max. Also, best handmade dumplings I’ve had outside New York City.

Anthony Rufka: The food was amazing, the service was outstanding, the staff was very friendly, and they were also impressively quick to get the food out. The portions were also big and thus the value for price is really good. One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to!

Jeffrey Richards: Came for the Salt/Pepper Squid as an appetizer, new menu only has it as an entrée. Won’t budge and offer as an appetizer size, so disappointing. I like the old menu and not this Post Covid Sichuan Pavillion

Audrey Jiang: The space is super comfortable. The waiters and waitresses are incredibly attentive, accommodating, and nice! The dumplings in chili sauce were absolutely amazing, and the rest of the food we ordered was too. 11/10 would recommend and 11/10 would definitely come again. Everything was amazing.

Shufang Qiu: Good food and service, although advice on food portions can be improved. Too much food - we were stuffed and had to waste some.

Gaurav Gawankar: This place is an absolute 10/10. Everything on the menu is really good, the decor is very nice, the service is fast and everyone is really nice. On top of all of that you get delicious hot tea for free. My favorite Chinese restaurant in DC

Capital Szechuan: what do users think?

J. Pina: I love their 🍕 pizza, but they (the woman) have never been particularly friendly or polite, but after I wrote my review it was as if they had read it and knew who I was since I always use my debit card. The next time I came in she was polite and friendly. WOW! Another credit to them is they make a really good pizza and I have never had a bad one until last week. It was beautiful on the top but completely burned, crispy and black on the bottom. It was too late to go back and I was completely ambivalent about what to do so I took a couple of pictures. I came in a few days later, showed them the pictures, found out the oven was up too high. I completely understood that. I never had to ask for anything which is a comforting feeling. At my request, I came back a few days later and picked up my replacement pizza. They were both kind and humble on both days which made me feel completely at ease. I could not have asked for more. The next pizza was perfect. It was beautiful on the top and bottom. Thank you Capital Szechuan.

Africa Lynn: This place raised me. Ate here now OVER half of my life and it’s the only carry out I want to eat from. WINGS🔥 MUMBO SAUCE 🔥 steak and cheese EGG-ROLL🔥 everything is good for real! Clean, transparent to see kitchen, polite, fast, quality 🌸🙌🏾🌸 When you go tell them Africa sent you. 💋

Kristina Brodnevskaya: Dear Capital Szechuan, I am writing to you today because I am part of a project that seeks to help the Ward 7 East Capitol Urban Farm to find more ways in which we could help the communities around it. As a restaurant business, I imagine you source fresh foods like vegetables, or fruits, or both. I know there aren’t many grocery stores in the area that could provide fresh foods. My question for you is whether you’d source fresh foods from the local Urban Farm, and if not, why? Is it costs? Is it because you are already used to order fresh foods from your trusted supplier? Are there any other reasons? If you would like to contribute to our project, please let reply to this email and we can organise a call or video call so you can express you opinions. This would be really important for the project because we are trying to boost the farm, its usefulness to the surrounding community and ways in which it can employ more local people as well (maybe by creating educational workshops on how to cultivate a vegetable garden, or how to cook healthy nutritious meals, etc.) Sincerely, Kristina Brodnevskaya Urban Greenhouse Challenge

Nicole Wills: If you want tasty fried chicken and with some great mumbo sauce...this is the spot!!! The spot is a little sketchy, so I would suggest you visit early in the day. But, it is really worth it. All of the food is great! One of the better carryouts on that side of DC.

De'Lisha Smith: First time trying this carry out and it was delicious. I got chicken wings, fries and mambo sauce with a steak and cheese egg roll. I’ll be going ordering again for sure.

Andrew Kram: Maybe an unlikely place to find really good Chinese food but this small mom and pop store serves up really great food.

Tiara Peterson: The food is good but it looks dirty, they need to remodel

Linda Barnes-Walker: Quick and the food was delicious...I got pepper steak and chicken egg foo yung

Szechuan House: what do users think?

Bobbi DeAnda: Pricey but fast and pretty good. The sesame chicken was yummy, the crab ragoon was pretty good, ribs were pretty good. I didn’t like the pad Thai at all though. It seems a bit overpriced, but it was quick and easy and pretty good overall.

More Luxe: The dumplings were awesome. The rice was very well cooked although it was a delivery. The meat was very tender.

Atma Thompson Wiles: Worst Pad Thai I have ever had. It is literally rice noodles with chicken, without any sauce or flavor at all (aside from a random lime wedge they added). I also got the orange chicken, which was actually delicious. Maybe it was wrong of me to order Thai Food from a Chinese takeaway place, but it should have been labeled as "chicken with noodles and a lime" instead.

Emily O'Hare: We’ve been ordering from here for a couple of months now. We always order directly from their website rather than Uber Eats and it’s usually the same guy who delivers it every time and he is the nicest, smiliest delivery driver ever! We really like the food, we’re not American so I can’t speak to it’s comparison to other chineses around here but it really reminds us of Chinese from home and it’s always hot and fresh. No issues ever and we’re really glad we came across it!

Robert “Rob” Stocks: Never order delivery from them on a Friday or Saturday night. I ordered through BeyondMenu and waited 3 hours for nothing. They called me the following day to apologize for cancelling my order because their kitchen was overwhelmed. They never told me the night before that they were cancelling the order. Each and every time I called about the order they said it was being made and would be delivered. I did get a refund but will likely never order from them again!

Samuel Pauley: This is the best Chinese takeout in the Waterfront/Navy Yard/Eastern Market area. The food is great quality, the employees are nice and helpful, and the delivery is prompt. I’m impressed that they always read my extra instructions in the online order and follow through. This is the only Chinese takeout I will order in the area. :)

M M: I ordered crispy shredded beef on June 28 and got a great meal - meat was great with no breading in sight. I just received my order of crispy shredded beef on August 2 and it is thick crusty chewy tasteless breaded pieces of who knows what without any sign of beef. Same menu item two completely different dishes. Do you not have standard recipes to follow? You get two stars because the spare ribs were good.

Wei Wei: It is just so good. I love the original flavor that I am only likely to have back in China.

Mala Tang: what do users think?

Zheng Bian: We visited here thinking this was a real authentic Chinese food place, and left with mixed feelings. Service was actually decent. The food, not so much. We ordered an scallion pancake, and found a lot of pepper inside (see picture). This was absolutely not authentic. We also ordered steamed beef dumpling but received fried dumpling instead. For the hotpot combo, it was OK with a good balance of seafood, protein, and vegetable. For some reason though we were charged an additional broth $3.95. From the outside, this place looked very authentic Chinese. Yet there was no one speaking Chinese, from reception to waiter. The menu was English only and it was hard to read through translation. Pictures from previous reviewers showed a much nicer menu and apparently that was no longer the case. It seems the restaurant is under new management. It is a rather exotic than authentic place.

Yeana Park: I had a dry hot pot… it was not bad, but hard to say worth it or delicious or authentic. Also, They don’t care people come in to the restaurant. I waited for about 10 minutes to see a waiter.

Hanning Xu: Better atmosphere than your typical Chinese restaurant. Was very pleased with the dishes ordered, especially the beef/beef tripe in spicy sauce. Generous portions, authentic taste. Will return.

Kaye Eats: Another random spot we found off of loving spicy Asian food. It was good, large portions, pretty filling. Spice level wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be but the flavors were there. Service was also good through out and I would go back

Ja Young Phillips: Food is good. Really good. I picked up my order and parked at parking garage and I was told that they don’t validate parking for pick ups. Only dine in customers get validation. 10 min parking is free but it could take more than 10 min when you pick up and go back to car and get out of parking garage so be prepared for that to pay $5 from parking more than 10 min to 1 hour. I saw one car parked on the street and picked up food which is very dangerous, maybe he knew already. I had three kids in the car so I wouldn’t do that. Getting in and out of car takes time. It was hard just to pick up food. At the end the lady validated my parking but it was so much hassle going in and out back and forth.

Chang Sui: Malatang is not very fresh, meat wasn’t taste good. Other dishes were ok.

YUAN ZUO: Waiting for a loooooong time for the food, and my stomach felt awful after eating 😢I’m here for the ma la tang, and I’m super disappointed. It’s greasy, salty but didn’t have the favor. The meat is fat and not fresh, and it’s not spicy at all😫 felt sad after eating this

Vivian Westwood: Good quality hotpot. I went out with a friend of mine and we order the hotpot for two deal. We also did some add on of rice cake, noodles and pork intestine. This restaurant is more on the pricy side be expected to spend around $30 + if you want hot pot. I never went to a hot pot restaurant where you pay for everything individual. I will said the quality here is a lot better then the other I went to. The soup is refill for free here. Presentation of the food was clean. Each dishes had it own utensils to pick food to avoid cross contamination. Definitely recommend for good hot pot. No need for all you can eat because portions sizes were good.

Q by Peter Chang: what do users think?

Claire Tsai: Good food, service and price!! Would like to visit again if go back to the area. Love it! A true Chinese food. Not American Chinese food. Me and my boyfriend are from Asia, and this reminds us our hometown! Highly recommend.

Carmen: The food was delicious. We ordered a whole fish and seafood fried rice. We love the fish, it was very tasty. We accompanied the meal with a Jazmine tea. The service was very great, as well. We will definitely be back.

Loy Pires: We’ve eaten at P’s before and have always been impressed. However, we tried take out/delivery this time and we were disappointed. While the Tofu Duck Soup (green) was as good as we remember, the duck rolls were meh, the crispy pork belly was so spicy you could not taste anything else, and the Mongolian beef wraps were soggy and had gristle. While some of this could be attributed to the time for delivery, the taste profile was not, and the quality was poor. What’s going on?

Wei Yang: The last time my friend take me to the Mama chang, that was great! Today my other best friend take me here ---Q by Peter Chang. The food was excellent and the service was great too! We seat outside, the weather just right for it, not too hot not too cool... We are had a good time 👍❤️

C B (Chris): A True Gem! This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The rabbit is delicious but be cautious of tiny bones. The boiled fish is my favorite. If you like spicy food, you should definitely give it a try. The cabbage dish is very rich, but quite good. Whenever I have a guest seeking good Chinese food, this is where I go.

Greg Fine: This place was awesome! It was so good I came back the next night for another dinner here. The menu seemed to be mostly authentic Chinese food but there were a few American-Chinese options like sesame chicken. Definitely get the “Chinese Burger”

J C: I was skeptical when someone mentioned this place for good Sichuan food…and then more people backed it up so I HAD to try it. Very good! The cold beef and tripe salad, the fried chicken bits, and eggplant were so good! Will definitely be coming back.

L. M.: Great food! Super tasty and you can find pretty authentic dishes here

David Andrew Finkelstein: I cannot stress this enough! This is the best Chinese takeout in DC proper by a mile. Definitely try it if you are able to, they deserve the business. Pictured is the Hot and Sour soup and Chengdu cold noodles, both items came out to $13 before tip!! Such a reasonably priced restaurant, they deserve your business.

Szechuan Delight: what do users think?

Kiya A: That lady on the phone is so RUDE AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! She does not need to be answering the phone if she always have an attitude. She kept putting me on hold and then when she finally got to me, she was like “OKAY WHAT YOU WANT ?!” With an attitude. Before I could even finish she said “Okay Bye” and hung up.

Delvin Williams: Once a few year ago, the lad y that answered the phone had a very bad attitude so me and my family stopped ordering from them. Now today I call to place my order and this same lady is on the phone yelling as if she is talking to a two year old child. Customer Service is severely lacking here. On top of getting back to the bad customer service it seems as though my price changes even if I place the same order but they refuse to provide an itemize receipt. I do not know why this restaurant believes it will continue getting customers when you have this type of service. The food is inconsistent and definitely not worth the money or disrespect that comes with it.

Monique Stevens: The food is sometimes good and sometimes ok, but that woman they have answering the phone to take orders is the most rudest condescending person for customer service. She does not know how to speak to people.

Carlos Roman: I gave it one star because zero stars wasn’t an option. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp platter. Don’t do it to yourself, the so called shrimp was butterflied and heavily breaded and super gross, it came with fries, which were not made for human consumption. The lady at the front counter was really rude and discourteous. I will never return because I don’t have money to throw away on trash!

Tina Robinson: Delivery driver is very rude!I asked him how much the food was so he could be paid. he became very irritable. And when I have him the money, he dropped my food on the ground instead of giving to it to me in my hands.

Quisha Quish: I order from this place often. I have walked in and placed my order. Good customer service and also had food delivered. They are fast and friendly. The food is great! It always arrives hot and fresh. I highly recommend Szechuan Delight for your carry out needs.

Nikki: Food is OK. Customer service is horrible. Very rude. Top China up the street is better.

Sichuan Jin River: what do users think?

Maddie Kau: Maybe my favorite Chinese restaurant in the DMV? Lots of delicious veggie options. The eggplant was not too oily which is hard to find. Pea shoots were a favorite! Good value too ($35 per person with 20% tip and three meals of leftovers)

Ron Mecredy: Highly recommend this gem in the middle of Rockville with plenty of parking and easy access for handicapped. A little bit of a discount for cash and the staff is very attentive. Huge menu and amazing flavors. I had the happy jelly 開心涼粉 and I really liked it plus the Chengdu Chicken. The rice is perfect. Just over $20.

Joanna Lee: Our friend (Taiwanese) recommended this place for us, saying this one of his favorite Chinese places to go in the area. He was right - this place is really good. We usually order scallion pancake, beef noodle soup and flounder and tofu, and all of them are super tasty. The service is also very good, the server is very quick and attentive. They give you huge portion of food too. I’d recommend this place to everyone I know, and would definitely keep coming back!

Sandy Marin: The mouth numbing sichuan never disappoints. I came for zhong dumplings, but stayed for spicy dry hot pot and dan dan noodles.

Ramin Ostad: Best Sichuan in the area. Delivery available. Fish dishes are great and a wide selection of Sichuan specialities that are hard to find elsewhere (e.g. various intestine-based dishes)

Matthew Tejada: Wasn’t expecting much. Looks kind of down in the mouth especially compared to the newer more fashionable places in downtown square but good night - by far the best Chinese meal I’ve had. Party of four so we ordered half things recognizable and half things we were giving a shot and every single one hit. The cumin lamb was exceptional as were the pork buns and the flounder. Everything was just absolutely great and will definitely be going back.

Sweet Kitty: It is the worst restaurant I have ever seen. During the pandemic, for supporting the business of local restaurant, I visited this restaurant a few times. The staff was very rude, especially during lunch time when they were busy working on packing carry out orders. When they missed orders or messed up orders, there was no sorry or explanation from the staff, but leave you alone with longer waiting time. When eating in, please be careful of your plate or bowl. I know they had been washed. However, I still found little things sticking on them somewhere. Anyway, I will not go there anymore. So disappointed.

Monette Staab: Excellent food, excellent service, large portion, good price. Our first family visit and definitely will come back or order take out. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
