N-Flux: what do users think?

Becca Andersen: I had no prior experience with self defense or any martial art and my boyfriend bought me the Women and Femme self defense intensive course for this weekend. It was AMAZING, so inclusive of all experiences and fitness levels, talked about real world applications and scenarios and gave us a safe space to practice those scenarios and key moves to protect us. There were no gimmicks, just each person realizing their own strength and ability and personal strategy. The instructors were kind, inclusive, supportive, and I will definitely be returning for more classes. Thank you!!! [people, buy course passes for your partner, for yourself, for your family... they'll love it!!]

Katherine Daw: I went to self defense for women and femmes with Colleen! Amazing course! Colleen has designed the curriculum with both practicality and thoughtfulness in mind. She made sure all of us felt safe, cared for, and heard throughout the experience, even as we were tackling difficult topics and potentially triggering exercises and drills. She and the folks helping out were very knowledgeable and gave great pointers and individual attention to everyone in the class. I’ve come out of the weekend very sore, but feeling empowered and much more confident in my ability to defend myself in an emergency. This class has also inspired me to continue training in martial arts so that I continue to hone my self defense skills. Truly can’t recommend this highly enough.

Roger Routh: Went to N-Flux while I was in DC visiting my daughter. She's been going for over a year and speaks highly of it. I can see why. It was a GREAT workout. Tremendous camaraderie between the attendees and between the attendees and Chris the owner. I highly recommend it.

Kay Tang: Colleen and her team of instruction assistants are amazing. They truly create a great space for females to voice, share, and learn the everyday challenge to their safety. I learned a lot!

Leah Wilson-Lyons: I went to self defense for femmes with Colleen and had the BEST time. A welcoming gym environment for women that you won’t find at other places. I feel strong and empowered and lucky to have taken the self defense course. Every woman in DC should take this course!! It is so worth every penny. Colleen goes above and beyond to help you outside of class and to get to know you personally. The environment is very supportive and helped with my anxiety going in. Great community at that gym. I will be back!

Sean Leonard: I was a complete beginner to martial arts classes, and N-Flux was a fantastic, welcoming environment. There was a broad range of skill levels – from completely new people to seasoned professionals. Would highly recommend for someone looking for a place with a good sense of community, wide range of classes, or even a good open gym environment.

Jaimie Nawaday: I traveled from Brooklyn to DC for the women’s self-defense intensive with Colleen Daly because I heard such great things about Colleen and couldn’t find anything comparable even in NYC. It was absolutely the best thing I’ve done for myself in years. The training, the environment, the instruction, the whole atmosphere was everything I was looking for. It was both incredibly tough and incredibly supportive. I was sore from head to toe, my knuckles were wrecked, and I had the time of my life. Will recommend to everyone I know.

Alexis Barton: I highly recommend the Guerrera workshop and Colleen that I took with N-Flux. I took the workshop with my 12 year old daughter and we both had an incredible experience - both with Colleen and the other instructors and with the group of women in the workshop with us. We were a mix of women of different ages, sizes, life-experience, and abilities but we all felt included and comfortable - which for practicing something like this is so important. Colleen made every technique and strategy accessible and straightforward but we still learned so much. Thank you!

Caroline Routh: The happiest I've been in a long time! Working out here provides me with an amazing community of peers who aim to uplift and support each other, and the staff instruction is unmatched anywhere in the city. As a beginner I have never felt overwhelmed or intimidated. I cannot recommend N-Flux highly enough!

Andrea Fort: I took the Guerrera self-defense class out of pure curiosity and I LOVED IT! This was just the type of physical / mental challenge I was looking for and I mean that it wasn't difficult, just something that felt really great to achieve! Colleen, the lead instructor, is a powerhouse and her energy is contagious! I also appreciated the wholesome guidance from all 3 other instructors, ever watchful about our technique and form... encouraging us along the way. It was also amazing to bond with other women and femmes over such a particular and vulnerable practice. I'm so glad to have met all of them, THIS IS a safe space! Thank you Colleen, Sarah, Tahira, Riley, you all make such a great and diverse team! I highly recommend this experience to ANYONE. Go for it!

BETA Academy: what do users think?

Ma D: Awesome place for beginners and advanced BJJ lovers. Very friendly people. Good technics. I highly recommended this place who visiting Washington DC also who decided to start practising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Guys when you browsing different clubs with thoughts about what to choose please go there and you will meet really cool professional people. Good luck everyone. Oss.

Jack Cantlay: The instruction is top notch. Your instructors are amazing and follow a coherent system of training so that each week is a new thing. The gym culture is very friendly and welcoming but I still feel like I can get competitive live rolls. It really matters that your instructors are so friendly. That goes a long way. But they still push me! I love the balance.
Response: Thank you so much Jack, we appreciate that! We pride ourselves on our welcoming community and believe that a strong community fosters growth in our students.

Thuhuong Dao: - Coach to child ratio was excellent. - Coaches did a great job working the room and - working with each child/group. - Introduction/greet for my children’s first class was great and energetic. - Disciplining the students during class was thorough and appreciated. - Dismissal of students was organized (liked how the coach only let the kids go when he say the parents).
Response: HI there! Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate your feedback and we're so happy that you experienced the professionalism of our Kids' coaches!

Tara Trinity: Coach Carlos, coach D, everyone is amazing. We love Beta!!!! My son has come into an environment that supports him and is compassionate as well as disciplined. The diversity is something I was personally looking for, and that’s something that is even more a bonus.

Walter Bayer: Great place for all-levels of Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu enthusiasts. Very beginner-friendly with knowledgeable coaches who will patiently walk you through everything you need to know. After training here for a few sessions, you'll experience the great sense of community they foster. I loved that there was also a weight room to supplement training with strength & conditioning.

Tim .G: We were in DC on vacation and they welcomed us in for open mat, even stayed later to roll. Coach Gabriel was awesome. Awesome facility! Super friendly community! I definitely recommend!

Tyrone Calvin: I’m no strange to BETA academy and every time I go, I leave better than I arrived. Everyone is very friendly and professional. The Brazilian Ju Jitsu class is informative and state of the art in self defense.

CJ Francis: I love the welcoming culture, the high level and clarity of instruction, the daily availability of no gi classes as well as gi. Also the ample amount of time given for both drilling and sparring.

Saron Dessalegn: Friendly Coaches are willing to help and give good instructions!! Definitely recommend for a great education in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.
Response: Thank you so much Saron!

Amy Putens: In honesty we could not be more thrilled with our experience with BETA! We have been apart of the BETA community for approximately 2yrs. We started out just being an attendee of their summer program. After summer was over we would drive by often and my daughter would ask- "When do we get to go back to beta?" I knew then that this was where we needed to be. When you have a daughter (who is a girlie girlie) wanting to be apart of something so much bigger than Ballet or gymnastics I was sold. We then signed up for the after school program and we haven't turned back since. The excitement both my children have for their amazing staff and program is the reward for me at the end of the day. Having being I can trust in to guild my children down the right path and for my kids to respect them is 100% why we choose BETA!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU BETA! Thank you for all that you give!!!!!!
Response: Hi Amy, thank you so much for sharing your story with us! It makes us proud to have kids as enthusiastic and motivated as yours in our Kids Program!

District Martial Arts | MMA Gym: what do users think?

Jakob: Overall a great gym to train at. It's in a convenient location and offers a variety of disciplines, so you definitely get your money's worth. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming to all. I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get involved in martial arts.
Response: Thank you Jakob!

Celeste Gee: Great gym, location, and staff! As a newcomer to Muay Thai, and Boxing I was super nervous to sign up for a class, but the coaches were so welcoming and helpful in teaching me the correct form and techniques, especially as a left-hander! The class was so exhilarating, fun, and full of energy that I didn't even realize an hour passed until the class was over. I love when you can get a total body workout without feeling the monotony and boredom of going to the gym. I would definitely recommend this to friends in the area and anyone interested in learning about any of the martial arts styles they offer. Thank you District Martial Arts!
Response: Thank you Celeste!

Tiana Bsnjk: Honestly a pretty fantastic place. No matter what level you are, the instructors work to accommodate you. Beginner? No problem. Someone from DMA will 100% work with you to get you up to speed on technique and style. They're also incredibly warm and welcoming, friendly, and reassuring. You won't feel out of place here - definitely recommend DMA out of any other place in the area if you're serious about self defense. They'll make sure you're trained properly!

Drew Ehlers: Positive: ProfessionalismThe classes that I attended at District were great! BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai- all professionally coached, and the group of men that I trained with were exceptional. Trainers and Participants all were very helpful in making sure everyone was progressing.
Response: Thank you Drew!

Rachel Wang: The community at DMA was incredibly welcoming even for beginners -- people remembered my name and gave me helpful tips from the very first class I attended. Not only do they have boxing and muay thai classes, they also have weekly yoga, which I really appreciated. Definitely recommend checking out this community, even if you’re a beginner like me!
Response: Thank you Rachel!

V M: Its a great gym to train a variety of martial art disciplines: bjj, boxing, muay thai, judo, wrestling, etc. The classes are offered throughout the day and on the weekends. The instructors are very knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to train martial arts or is just looking to get in shape.
Response: Thank you V M! Great having you at DMA!

Gerald Bryant: Pros: The gym offers a good variety of martial arts with instructors that are very knowledgeable and lead great classes.Cons: Gym is smaller so make sure to schedule classes enough ahead of time to ensure a slot in the class.

Andrew Turner: My girlfriend and I attended a free trial class the other day. At first we were both nervous and confused, but this was partly because we showed up late and without signing our waivers yet. When we jumped in we felt a bit out of place, but that changed quickly. I have a small amount of experience but my girlfriend has next to none but we both found the MMA class to be accommodating (especially with the kind and patient instructor). Overall, a wonderful environment with quality equipment, great people, and excellent instruction.
Response: Hi Andrew, It was a pleasure to have you and your girlfriend at our school. Thank you for coming!

Laura Gross: Positive: QualityI really enjoy my classes at this gym, everyone is so welcoming. For a new person just getting into martial arts all my instructors were super supportive and provided clear direction. Whether you are looking to change up your workouts or learn a new skill I would highly recommend giving this gym a try.
Response: Thank you Laura!

Gori Olufon: I go to District Martial Arts for Brazilian Juijitsu, BJJ and it is excellent. The coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging and the facility is beautiful. I’m really looking forward to the new Judo class! Here’s to another amazing year!
Response: Thank you Gori! It’s a pleasure to have you part of the DMA community.

Fort Washington United: what do users think?

Esha: This is my son's first year attending FWU and I couldn't be more excited and blessed for my son to work with such a professional and polite staff. My son's tutor Ms. Nicole has worked tirelessly to make sure he not only stays on task for his grade level goals but that he also exceeds them.🙌🏽 My son also has some amazing coaches that are not only helping to teach him the various skills and techniques associated with MMA but they also teach him discipline, respect, and teamwork.😉 FWU has mastered the recipe for developing successful students and I'm glad my son is one of them.😊

Willie Hicks: Hope this review helps anyone on the fence……..our son is an energetic (kid has a lithium Ion Tesla battery), rambunctious, 100% boy. We love him to pieces but noticed his weight was slowly creeping up, his attention span, and listening skills weren’t where we wanted them to be. We wanted to be proactive and get him into a disciplined environment while also increasing his physical activity. We researched different Martial Arts Academy’s in the Fort Washington area and came across Fort Washington United. We initially called in January 2021 and spoke with Nicole. Within a week we decided to bring our son in for a trial class. The atmosphere and environment was very welcoming. The staff stopped what they were doing to invite us in, take us on a tour, and answer the zillion questions we had. Our son immediately fell in love with the class and was a participant 4-5 times a week in the evenings and on Saturday’s. Fast forward to the Spring and we were prompted with the decision to do the traditional Summer Camp for our son, or enroll him in the Summer Program offered at Fort Washington United. We are so glad we went with FWU. Our son (who turned 6 in May) has progressed immensely in the areas of reading, problem solving, communication, public speaking, water safety (swimming), and leadership. The lessons and principles instilled by the staff has turned our son into a responsible, respectful natural leader who can also throw a hell of a punch and follow with a roundhouse kick, but will also help an old lady across the street……..AWESOME STAFF! AWESOME MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM! Can’t say enough great things……wish I could give them 10 STARS!

Kisha DeSandies Lester: Earlier this spring, I was looking for a martial arts academy for my five year old son, who was about to start kindergarten. My husband and I wanted to help him get used to being about other kids, since he had been in quarantine for over a year with little to no other time to play with kids his age. We also wanted to instill confidence, respect and self-control and believe that mixed martial arts is a good way to achieve that. I had planned on starting our son in a program in the fall, but as I looked for summer camp programs, I discovered Fort Washington United (FWU). Initially, we wanted to make sure that our son could keep up with the summer program and the evening classes. The staff was great is working with us and our son to assess his ability and we were able to register him for 5-6 weeks of summer camp and the daily martial arts classes. Our son LOVES FWU! He enjoys the structure and working with the coaches and all of the moves that he learns each week. He also is making friends with the other students. Because our son doesn’t attend school nearby, we are not enrolled in the after school program, but we would if we could. Martial arts has given our son confidence and he’s excited to practice his moves at home to anyone who will watch! The summer camp was simply phenomenal! Our son loved the weekly themes, lessons and field trips they went on. The coaches taught the kids important values and taught them how to speak up, be respectful, be responsible, and be a good citizen of the academy. We also loved how the kids worked in teams, by age and presented their projects each week. We were blown away that our 5-year-old was doing PowerPoint presentations and building airplanes and coming up with business plans. There is also a wonderful education track during the summer camp week and after-school program to help keep your child learning at their grade level and beyond (if they are able to). This summer camp also prepared him for the social aspects of kindergarten (eating lunch, playing with others, transitions to different activities, keeping up with your personal items, etc.) I read a review about how this program may not be for younger kids. I would say that it would depend on the child. My son has thrived at FWU. He was one of the youngest kids in the summer program and he did great! He also is inspired and motivated by the older kids, and teens who help with the summer camp. I also think that a lot of our kids need to get a little real-world consequences for their actions when they don’t follow the rules. My son is motivated by that and the point system is an appropriate tool in the academy setting. He doesn’t like losing points because other kids on his team aren’t listening, so he tries to be a leader and example, which we like to see. Overall, I have and will continue to recommend FMU to parents. It’s a safe and nurturing place to have your kids. The staff (Steve, Nicole, Karen, Jason, Charles) are all upbeat and keep you informed on what’s going on. I love how Coaches Jason and Charles are with my son and all the kids. We love that Steve and Nicole are veterans and they have made the decision to pour into the lives of kids. Karen is always helpful, pleasant and supportive every time I see her. My husband and I have been really happy with the decision to enroll our son in this program.

Nat Geary: I've trained at UMAA since September 2018, and since then, my growth has been immense. If you're into challenging workouts, this place has you covered (I am down 40 lbs and keeping the weight off). If you're looking for fulfilling afterschool programs for children, this place is dedicated to both mental and physical success, with tutoring and homework support to go along with martial arts instruction. If you are interested in setting and achieving personal goals, I can personally attest that this gym has helped me reach new heights. I never saw myself winning a grappling tournament, but the coaches, staff, and teammates made that a reality. I cannot recommend this place enough . From ownership down to students, this place is all class. It is more than just a gym, it is a community hub.

Dawn Washington: I am the mom of a special needs child. I was very hesitant to put him in martial arts. I’m glad we did, best decision we ever made! Grappling and striking have boosted my sons self esteem. During summer camp, the group went on museum tours. Each week had a educational theme. They learned coding, finance principles and received points for each book they read over the summer. The points could be used for toys and games. Now that school has started, the focus is on homework. I worried the staff wouldn’t be one on one with my son for his studies so I didn’t bother sending his homework. Imagine my surprise when his teacher sent multiplication homework home and my son already knew it! He’d work with staff using Kahn academy. Great place, great staff!!!

Jazmin Simms: I highly recommend UMAA. My son Mason has attended the after school program for almost 2 years now and I could not be more thankful to the coaches and staff. Since attending, Mason has become a lot more confident, disciplined and an overall better student. The coaches and staff care a lot about the kids and always go the extra mile to help whether it’s with training or homework.

Steven Hoang: The United Martial Arts Academy has classes for the entire family! The classes are great for people of all ages that want to learn top rated self defense and get fit! The kids have a ton of fun during classes! I would recommend this gym to anyone again and again!

Charmicielle Goodine: This establishment does not know how to handle primary children. The punishment for a 5 year old should not be the same for a 12 year old. The point system that the children are on is very subjective. And thinking that a 5 year old should have the same responsibility as a 12 year is ridiculous. It is probably a great establishment for older students but not for younger children.

fairlane urbina: My son goes to UMAA to their after school program. The coach never misses a day to update us that my son got picked from school, in the van and when they’re in school. We celebrated my son’s 11th birthday at UMAA and the theme was Nerf Blast. The party was a “BLAST” all kids had a great time and the staffs did a “BLAST” job! I highly recommend this school. Not only they love what they do, but they care the well being of their students.

Jaquan Butler: United Martial Arts Academy is great environment to build a foundation for martial arts. With a diligent staff and wonderful community it is an excellent environment for learning, guaranteed to instill the calmness and confidence needed to succeed.

Pentagon Mixed Martial Arts: what do users think?

Michael “Newmie” Newman: Fantastic facilities, welcoming owners & staff, excellent initiative and follow up from highly-qualified & patient trainers. My son & i both excel (soar!) at every professionally-designed training session and class at Pentagon MMA. Teddy is my regular trainer, consistently showing up to push me, break me, lift me when my own efforts are lacking. Sifting out the weak vibes with slick music, his enabling fortitude is the exact coaching you will benefit from as well. Trust this reborn, remade 55 yr old “dad with gray hair and missing memory” — the place to find your fit self again is right here at Pentagon MMA. #[As known well, the discipline must come from within YOU. For this gym and the facilities, along with the experienced staff, and your committed presence combined is THE ONE *CATALYST* YOU need to patiently push yourself to find again once-held that holistic belief in yourself… and achieve grand, new fitness goals. Results guaranteed!]
Response: Michael, thank you so much for your kind words. Thank you for entrusting us with your family’s martial arts journey!

David Ebb: This place is simply a cut above the rest! The workouts are well thought out and crazy fun! Class sizes aren't too big. You go at your own pace and skill level so it's never intimidating. You can always turn it up if need be and the coaches are right there to encouraged and push you through. The environment is very clean, friendly and inviting, you feel like family. It starts with the owners, they're fantastic! They bring a highly trained staff, professionalism and a kids program that's unmatched. I would highly recommend.
Response: Thank you David! We are grateful for your trust and for sticking with us since our very early days.

Joshua Ogboenyiya: I have been a member at pentagon for about 3 years now and I can’t think of a better gym to train at. All the coaches take their time explaining the different techniques, and they really have an attention for detail. I can tell this is more than fitness and being in shape. Everyone at pentagon truly wants students to grow and improve as martial artists. Everyone is warm and inviting and you can immediately get the feeling of a community among the student, coaches, and staff. I would recommend training at pentagon to anyone who has thought about joining a gym but hasn’t taken the leap yet – you won’t regret it.
Response: Joshua, thank you for your kind words and for entrusting us with your martial arts journey. We appreciate you!

Morgan Boswell (TheCalixte): I started doing MMA at 16 and have trained at a few different gyms. I have NEVER had the type of coaching and teammates anywhere else. The coaches at Pentagon truly care about each and every person and make it a comfortable environment for beginners through advanced. I have NEVER felt better about my body, mind, and ability then before- going on a year now and planning on many, many more! Whether you're looking to get in shape, fight, train, make friends, find a family, this gym has it all!! I love Pentagon!!!
Response: Morgan, we are grateful for you and the opportunity you gave us to work with you towards your martial arts goals. Our team will be so happy to read this review!

B: Thoroughly enjoyed my time at PMMA over the course of 3-4 years. Was a great way to keep in shape while learning self defense arts. Also a great way to keep yourself humble while sparring against other focused driven individuals. Can’t recommend enough. Coaching staff was also excellent abs they kept the place clean and tidy.
Response: Hey B, thanks so much for your kind words!

Carl Weis: After looking at several MMA gyms in the area, I decided to give Pentagon MMA a try. Their involvement in the community and kids programs are what appealed to me at first, because I was looking for a place that my 4 year old could attend, but it was everything else about this gym that convinced me to start training there as well. This place is awesome! The staff, instructors, and students are very professional, friendly, and welcoming. I have seen so much improvement with my son and his behavior after going here, and I have seen huge improvement in my training as well. I cannot say enough good things about this gym. If you are looking to get into martial arts, Muay Thai, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, or any of their other programs you owe it to yourself to try it out. I promise you won’t regret it. You will get into the best shape of your life, and will be part of a family that encourages you to be your best self inside and outside of the gym. You will make friends and above all you will build habits that last. Thank you for everything that you do. I’m proud to represent Pentagon MMA and recommend it to everyone I know.
Response: Carl, we are beyond grateful for your kind words and feedback. Thank you for trusting us with your family’s martial arts journey and for putting in the work to get a little better, each and every day. We will keep working hard to bring you the best service we can!

Eleanor D: I came to Pentagon MMA after trying a few other martial arts gyms in the area and immediately liked the atmosphere, the classes, and the people. The trial program was awesome, and I signed up to start the second I finished it. While I love the Muay Thai classes, and how they push you outside your comfort zone and work every part of your body, the best thing about this place is the community they have cultivated. There’s no better place to train!
Response: Hi Eleanor, thank you so much for making our day with your kind words, and for reminding us why we do what we do every day. We appreciate you and will keep working hard to help you reach your goals!

Olivia Holmes: An amazing gym in so many ways. I highly highly recommend all programs here and specifically the jiu jitsu program; especially if you're a woman, it's just such a great group of strong and supportive women out on the mats. The instructors are the highest quality and really make it a priority to make everyone feel welcome, safe, and to create a challenging and fun learning environment. Definitely recommend if you're looking to get into any kind of martial arts!! Keep up the great work Pentagon!!
Response: Thanks so much Olivia! We appreciate your trust and look forward to helping you reach your goals.

Celine Ferguson: This gym is amazing! The staff is friendly, professional, and incredible at what they do. They’ve made me feel welcome since day one and really do their best to make sure you understand the technique & train hard. In just a few months I’ve learned so much and still feel physically challenged every time I walk in. I highly recommend pentagon MMA.
Response: Celine, thanks so much for your feedback and kind words! We are thankful for you and will keep working hard to help you achieve your goals.

Nicholas Hunter: I started at Pentagon MMA when I was only 11 years old in the young warriors program. Ever since I started the instructors there focused on teaching not only martial arts but discipline and respect too. They made sure to push everyone in the class and to make sure they learned not only martial arts but life lessons as well. I am now 18 and still attend classes at pentagon MMA however, now they are the adult classes. The instructors make the classes a lot of fun for everyone while also pushing us to become better. The environment at pentagon MMA is one of the best things about the gym. Everyone is so nice and always willing to help, it’s just one big friend group where everyone has fun.
Response: Nicholas, it has been an honor watching you grow in your martial arts journey. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!

JTR Jujutsu International: what do users think?

Corinne Kramer: My kids have been attending jujitsu at JTR for over two years. I have been watching them get stronger and grow their discipline and decided I need that in my life too, so I started the Women's Self Defense class. Hoo boy is this a workout! And tons of fun, with a great staff and great classmates. If you're looking for a workout experience that can really help you grow as a person, I recommend you check out JTR.

Maura Policelli: The instructors at JTR are exceptional! Our granddaughter is learning the art of jujutsu as well as the importance of discipline, self control, respect, and integrity. She is part of an amazing community of young athletes and dedicated teachers. We are so very grateful to Master Don and Master Mobi!

Carole Bernard: I highly recommend the Women Self Defense and Adult beginner jujutsu classes. I joined the self defense class with my 2 teenage daughters 2 years ago and the jujutsu class more recently. The training has been fantastic to build up strength, stamina but more importantly to gain skills and confidence in self defense. There is a wide choice of classes during the week - 3 weekly classes for women self defense and the adult jujutsu classes are running every day! so no excuse not to train! The instructors and masters are very caring about you and your progress.

oscar sanz-paris: A real jewel in DC. There is a wealth of knowledge in a unusually large group of masters an instructors, each bringing a deep understanding and unique knowledge to share. Mater Don and Master Andrae do an incredible job creating a caring community around the dojo. My son started training 3 years ago in the juniors class, when we moved to DC. His confidence, auto-discipline and maturity has grown enormously thanks to the engaging yet effective teaching styles of master Mobi and Master Don. He enjoyed the program so much, we all decided to join in (even me...aged 50...). One of the best decision ever!

Harold Brown: I am a new student here at JTR. I don't like it here. I LOVE it here. Master Don is fabulous. He is patient and encouraging to all his students. Joining JTR has been a good experience for he so far.

Amma Hewitt: JTR jujutsu is an incredible place for children and families to grow. There is an emphasis on being the best you can be, and supporting others to be the best that they can be. This message is so refreshing in a world that emphasizes competition over collaboration. Children are reminded about the importance about practice, honesty and an earnest spirit. There are lessons here for young, old, and in between. We are so privileged to be part of the JTR community!

Amanda Budny: Excellent classes for children and adults, plus a womens self defense program. All classes focus on total body development and practical combat skills. Currently, there are classes via zoom and socially distanced in person classes. The school is very serious about smart hygiene habits which is very reassuring. I'd highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to start a martial arts journey.

Nick P: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueMy daughter joined a few months ago as a beginner and absolutely loves it. The instructors are fantastic and she has learned so much already.

Stephen Jefferson: The instructors are great. My son loves coming here and he is learning alot.

Yaseen Ahmed: Bad quality teaching and made me buy a tshirt
Response: Hi Yaseen, respectfully, we have no record of you in our system of having ever trained with us. If you did have a negative experience associated with our school, we'd love to have a conversation and learn more.

King Khong MMA: what do users think?

Katrina M. Trompeta: Never formally studying a martial arts before, I researched different schools in the DMV area and took a few trial classes at different locations. I can confidently say that King Khong MMA is an excellent school to learn a variety of martial arts—no matter if you have prior experience, or are starting as a beginner in her late 20s like me. Under Master Bao’s guidance and leadership, I look forward to attending class and learning more each time. What makes King Khong MMA different and unique in the best way, in my opinion, is the welcoming and warm environment of coaches and students. I genuinely leave in a much happier mood and am more confident after each class, that feeling hasn’t gone away after 6 months! If you’re thinking about taking a trial class and seeing for yourself how amazing of a school this is, I promise you won’t regret it! 😊
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! We so grateful to be part of your martial arts journey, and looking forward to many more great classes experience of yours together…😊👍💪🥊🦍🙏🏻

chris scott: My daughter and I have been with King Khong MMA coming up on 4-years. My only regret is that I cannot take more classes! We travel 4-days per week all the way from Ashburn now, willing to fight that traffic and adjust schedules - hopefully that tells you how important Bao and King Khong MMA are to our family. We would love a place here in Ashburn - we even searched - but there simply isn't a place like KKMMA. You're going to get the best instruction (especially the kids) at King Khong MMA, but you are going to feel like family at the same time. There's an energy of love and passion when you walk in those doors, not judgement, and neglect. Watching people progress and transform is simply amazing; especially the kids who are of the age grpup where bullying is starting to happen. Just an all around great place with great instruction and great values. DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR...
Response: Thank you for the kind words! We love to have Sienna and love watching her grow from the first day! It’s such a wonderful feeling to be part of it!

Sarah Gonzalez: Highly recommend training with Master Bao and King Khong MMA! I can speak firsthand about the Muay Thai classes and training, which provide a great environment to learn and push your limits. Master Bao is respectful to each of his students and their goals. This school is very welcoming to beginners but also has fighters competing on a regular basis. I'll also say this is a great environment for women considering martial arts – you will find training partners in every class at all skill levels. Drop in for a visit!
Response: Thank you for the kinds word Sarah! We are so grateful for having you here with us for your martial arts journey!

Ben Brennan: You absolutely have to come try a class at King Khong MMA if you are considering joining a gym in the DMV. By reputation and now by my own experience it’s clear why Master Bao is the best Muay Thai instructor in the DC area. I started at 43 years old and I went from being intimidated to obsessed with fighting before my first class was over. There’s not another gym I know of with such a positive vibe, and my friend who is a fighter and trained under him and other coaches says she now refuses to train Muay Thai with anyone else but Master Bao. Get off your butt and try a class, it might very literally change your life!
Response: Thank you Ben for the kind words. We are thrilled and honored that you chose us, so excited what the future holds for your martial arts journey!

Animal King: Regarding King Khong MMA and more specifically Muay Thai. My short amount of time I have been with King Khong I have not only learned that Muay Thai is not only a sport but an art, and culture. I have learned so much about the culture of Thailand along with the history and the love for Muay Thai. Both instructors are highly skilled, patient, and organized. I dedicate this review to Bao and Jack who are extremely humble. If you would like to learn to fight, this is the school to go too.
Response: Thank you for the kind words, we are so happy and proud to have you part of King Khong MMA. Thank you for allowing us to start your Muay Thai journey.

Linda Delcid: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueSo happy to have found this place! Master Bao is amazing! I have four children ages 4-12 and he works great with them all. Very patient and kind, showing great instruction also life lessons this is a great place.
Response: Hello there, it’s our great honor to have your children in our Kids MMA and Lil’ King Khongs program. Thank you for allowing us to be part of their martial arts journey and their growth as a whole. Thank you for the kind words.

wana manitpisitkul: Before learning Taekwondo, our little girl was painfully shy and bashful. Under master Bao’s guidance, she transformed into a strong and confident little girl. Master Bao is great with kids, kind, and encouraging. If you are looking for a nurturing environment for your little one to grow and become a well-rounded individual, then you have found the right place. I was lucky enough to learn Muay Thai from Master Bao for 2 years. Growing up in Thailand, I know what a real Muay Thai looks like. If you want to learn authentic Muay Thai skills, Master Bao is your guy.
Response: Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for the kind words and it was my pleasure and honor to be part of yours and your daughter’s martial arts experience!

Robert Arenas: Love training here with Bao Khong. I’ve been here for almost a year now and lost a ton of weight under his guidance and encouragement to lead a healthier lifestyle. He always welcomes visitors and potential new students interested in learning either Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, and even Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Give him a shot he won’t disappoint!
Response: Thank you Rob! King Khong MMA is grateful to have you and very proud of your accomplishments! I, personally very happy to have you in class, always ready to learn and push yourself! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your martial arts journey! Thank you

U M: Master Bao provides really clear instructions on very professional level! Whether you are experienced or a beginner, I definitely recommend checking up with King Khong MMA if you are looking for an amazing Muay Thai or Jiu-Jitsu coach.
Response: Thank you so much for the fantastic review, we are glad and honor to have you training here with us, King Khong MMA.

Jason Rubin: We tried a few other local Tai Kwan Do places for our kids, but they were really just day care places with a little karate thrown in for fun. If that's what you want, avoid VAMAI. If you want your kids to actually learn tai Kwan do and the discipline that goes with it, this is the place. Master T and her team are the real deal. They take discipline seriously and really hold the kids to a legitimate standard. Both of my kids love classes there and I feel they are really learning something. It takes longer to progress in belts, but that's because they really *earn* them. I can't speak highly enough about VAMAI. The staff is great with the kids and are genuinely nice people who love what they do. It's apparent from the minute you walk in the door.

Krav Maga Capitol Hill: what do users think?

Kaelin Kovacik: KM Capitol Hill is great! I have never done Krav or any other form of marital art / self-defense training. I decided to sign up as a creative way to workout while also learning a useful skill. The classes have been great, the instructors are very knowledgeable and kind, and everyone is welcoming. It has also been an unexpected confidence boost. I’d recommend this studio to anyone interested in self-defense.

Jamie Morgan: This gym is amazing. For anyone familiar with Krav, the gym does a great job of combining technique and aerobic training. For anyone new to Krav, it’s a fantastic way to build on any fitness training you do and learn self defense. I’ve done all different types of workout classes for years, and this has taken my fitness to a different level. Plus the community is very welcoming! Highly recommend.

Randall Thomas: Love KM Capitol Hill! Welcoming environment for those who've never taken KM. The instructors are excellent - highly knowledgeable, take time to correct poor form, etc., and always supportive though consistently challenging students to go hard. Great facility as well.

N. Uhuru: Energetic and knowledgeable instructors. You will sweat!! Great location too with parking.

Maryeliz Point: Classes were great, I moved so it was no longer possible for me to attend. Here is the cancellation process: 1. Submit written notice of intent to cancel by mail to their headquarters. 2. Receive an email directing you to the secret login information required to access the cancellation forms of the website 3. Document you have a disability or have reached the end of your contract 4. Print, sign, and email that document back to them - noting that every time you email them their automatic bounce back is "We are currently experiencing a high volume of messages, and we appreciate your patience. Someone from our Member Services team will be in touch with you soon!" but they will ignore your follow up questions and not get back to you. 5. Be charged for two additional months while simultaneously receiving "Late payment" notices. When you respond to those you get the same "We're so busy messages" 6. Who knows - they still haven't stopped charging me and I started this process in September. Edit: As of January, and after a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, my additional charges were refunded and no new charges have come through.

Jenni Myung: Highly trained and skilled instructors, good mix of classes and levels, well-organized and run. Also, they have good swag.

Jeff Mount: The best Krav Maga training center in Washington, D.C.

Gabriella Myers: Great classes with that "everybody is welcome" atmosphere

Urban Boxing: what do users think?

Megan Eitel: This is the best boxing gym I’ve been to in DC. Coaches take every opportunity to improve individual form and technique while giving the entire class an excellent workout. Every coach provides an intense and unique workout. I especially love the attention to form and technique that are provided in both Josh and Jeremy’s classes. This gym, and all of its coaches have improved my boxing form, technique, strength and stamina.
Response: Hi Megan. Awesome! Super happy to hear that! We appreciate the kind words

Jeff Wong: Urban boxing is legit. Josh, Crane, and Arturo were all extremely friendly and highly skilled. They've designed classes to include a great combination between intense workouts while also teaching technique/skill. If you're wondering if you should go to Urban Boxing in Foggy Bottom, at least pop in and talk to staff. You won't be disappointed!

Andrew Monaghan: What a great gym! Crane gave me a warm welcome and all the coaches I worked with - Josh, Charles, Arturo and Jordan really knew their stuff (Arturo has the best taste in music though!). I came for the boxing - which was really good, and then started on kickboxing too... Thank you! I learnt a lot and can't recommend it highly enough... I hope to be back one day soon!

Vanessa Salazar: 100% recommend Urban Boxing to anyone looking for a high-quality boxing gym! All of the coaches are knowledgeable and friendly. All levels are welcome! Kickboxing with Ify on Wednesday’s are awesome!
Response: Thanks Vanessa! You rock :)

Brittany Bennett: I love this gym. I joined with zero boxing experience and have always found the coaches to be encouraging, enthusiastic, and very knowledgable about the sport. The classes are tough workouts, but I'm definitely in better shape now than I was when I started. The coaches do a great job getting around to everyone to offer more personalized instruction and pay a lot of attention to technique. As a woman, it's a bit nerve-racking to jump into a male-dominated sport, but I've always felt super comfortable and uplifted by coaches, staff, and other students at Urban Boxing. The classes are a good mix of genders, too. If it's your first time taking a boxing class, make sure you sign up for one of the introductory levels. It's a fun, supportive gym and a great workout! Definitely recommend.
Response: Thanks Brittany!

Anne Richardson: When my 14 yo son said to me “mom, I want to try boxing” I thought: “great! But how on earth do I get into the boxing world not knowing anything , and, it’s it going to be an ok place for a kid?” UB was incredible, they walked him through the into process, treated him like a kid with kindness but also as a serious athlete. They are patient, kind, and approachable. Christian and Josh in particular, are spectacular trainers and really great people. Crane is at the desk and is informed, kind, and a super friendly presence to greet you. My son is certainly challenged, and leaves the place feeling so great about himself every time:like going to church! We love UB and will continue to train there as long as we can!

Kara Holbrook: Best boxing gym in DC! Not only is it the hardest workout, but it's in a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. I felt so welcomed by Crane, Arturo & the entire rest of the team when I first joined in January. They have such variety in their classes/class times that it's easily accessible for everyone. Crane is the BEST and is so accommodating to everyone at the gym!! thank you Urban Boxing!
Response: Hello kara! Thanks a million for your kind-hearted review! Crane and Arturo Truly are some of the most kind hearted people i have came upon! Here at urban boxing we do not gatekeeper boxing! Everybody is welcome!

Nicolette DeLorenzo: I love urban boxing! The coaches are professionals, and yet make boxing feel accessible. I started kickboxing, then transitioned to taking all classes. You get the opportunity to train, spar, develop athletically and strategically. Would recommend urban boxing to anyone looking for not only a new workout routine, but a chance to feel empowered and strong inside and out!
Response: Thanks Nicolette, we love you back!

JLG: I have spent the past 4 months going to URBAN boxing in DC to train both one on one and through their group classes. My body has transformed. I went from 180lbs to 165lbs, feel stronger than ever, all while having fun. Wether you want more stamina, get in shape, loose weight, etc etc, URBAN boxing is an excellent choice with excellent coaches. If you are on the fence, trust me and just come in for one class. I cannot more recommend Krane and his team of coaches. Joshua, Jordan and Randal are my three favorite coaches for different reasons. and depending on the type of workout you want what's awesome is that they each have their own style. Joshua is technical the most sound, he is a traditional boxer and focuses on getting it done right while building up your core. there are no two same workouts with joshua. I also recommend his 1:1. Jordan gets you sweating in no time with a brutally good mix of HIIT and boxing. Randal on the weekends reaches you different styles of boxing, with different stands and brings a fun atmosphere where everyone participates or else push ups for everyone. LOVE IT! Krane the manager is himself a gym nut and will help you with anything you need. The gym is super clean, people all have masks and I feel super safe going. Will you be sore after workouts? YES, but its functionally sore. I actually look forward to being sore, I know its crazy but true. Look no further if you want a diverse group of folks working out from all ages, background and styles. So many classes are available, boxing, kickboxing, abs, etc etc. Come check it out. Highly recommended!!! Don't worry if you know how to box or not, no matter your level, you will get a workout in and progress no matter your goals.
Response: You rock! Thanks so much for the review!

Gabriel Söderberg: Super professional, honest, and with awesome atmosphere. No binding multi-month or yearly contracts for training- just as it should be. Also, awesome trainers and staff - totally recommend training here.
Response: Thanks so much Gabriel!

Capital MMA & Elite Fitness | Alexandria, VA: what do users think?

DJ Sharpe: Used Capital MMA for personal training. Owner was very nice, gym setups are good. But the trainer I worked with was unprofessional. Made a lot of random inappropriate comments, put downs, lot of last minute cancellations, would train a 2nd class while trying to train together, bring his 3 young children during training which is dangerous when they run around unsupervised.

Abe Mousavi: This place's greatest strength is its culture. Culture is defined by behaviors a group champions balanced against those which they refuse to tolerate. The culture of Capital MMA is one of intense: training, support, accountability, and community. Everyone's training goals are honored and respected; from the word champion fighters to the person who just wants to break a sweat in a unique and fun way. The best part about the culture of Capital MMA is that it weeds out the people who don't resonate with it. Sometimes they go quietly, sometimes they go loudly with as many excuses as classes or private lessons they missed. Either way, they go and the rest of us remain better for the experience. Come see it for yourself!

Jeremy Flores: Been coming to Capital for BJJ for over 10 years when it rented upstairs space in Jungle's Gym (now Onelife Fitness near USPTO) and it has now grown to 7 locations in the DMV area. And it's pay at one location play at all; while centered around BJJ, that is not all they offer. Come to the Alexandria location for CrossFit, BJJ or Muay Thai, and you can go to Lorton for its Steel Mace or Ruck Fit class. Work in the city? You can go to DC H St for lunch and get in some BJJ. Takoma has boxing, judo and a women's only BJJ class. Loudon also has a women's only BJJ class and a KidsFit program. MMA is also offered at most locations for those aspiring world beaters. This is not an exhaustive list of all the locations or all the programs they offer. Capital is truly Elite Fitness! I take advantage of the unlimited class plan since I started taking my kids to the kid's BJJ program. And the schedule works out so I can take CrossFit at the same time. I also do the occasional yoga and Muay Thai class to round out my fitness routine. Even if the class schedule doesn't work for you, it is open most hours of the waking day, 6 days a week, for open mat/gym time. Just know scheduled classes get priority to mats and equipment. Very cost-effective if you can make it work. If you ever need to adjust your membership, due to sickness, extended out of town travel, etc., management is very responsive and will work with you. I haven't always taken so many classes during my time at Capital, because you know, life. All the programs are very welcoming and the instructors make you feel part of the Capital family. Its BJJ lineage is under the legendary Royce Gracie who dominated the early UFC tournaments and the Gracie family made BJJ and MMA what it is today. The founder and head instructor of Capital is the first practitioner in Virginia to get his black belt from Royce with all the others also a part of Capital. That said, Gracie BJJ wants to teach you how to defend yourself in real life situations, so self defense is a fundamental part of the curriculum. Muay Thai coaches are fighters themselves and while the techniques are workouts in and of itself, their goal is to show how it works in real situations. Joined CrossFit recently (even though they have offered this for years and during that time I thought CrossFit workouts were crazy and I could never do that! Even my sister is a certified CrossFit instructor! But she lives in another state.) and am mad I didn't take it earlier since it makes me better at BJJ. The certified coaches are very responsive as they will help you scale to your fitness level and cheer you along for motivation, even the other members will help and cheer, too. Coaches there can also help with nutrition and lifestyle goals. While each program does their own thing, there is no issue in jumping from one to another or dabble in them all like I do. There is also the Capital Cares program which gives back to the community with scholarships and donations to worthy causes. So it's not just a gym that takes your money and teaches you classes, they use some of that to give back to help empower the community all while inspiring the community to give back themselves. All in all I am glad I am part of Capital so you should give it a try if you have any type of fitness goals. They have membership plans for the occasional user to the "I'm cranky if I haven't worked out today" gym rat. Either way, Capital will help you build a better version of yourself. Oh! And there are locker rooms with showers to boot!

Mindy Tang: Joining Capital MMA last summer has shown itself time and time again to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in the last year. It has fostered such structure and motivation in my life to continue my pursuit of learning through Muay Thai and BJJ, while my coaches also teach drive and dedication through not only their words but their actions. I have made friends that push me to be the best version of myself every single time I step on the mats. My coach has provided me with advice and strength training on his own time, with the pure intent to see me get stronger and perform better. I’m continually shocked and grateful that so many in this community are so giving with their time and knowledge (especially its leaders, coaches, and owners) and treat this not as a business relationship but one of true mentorship in every sense of the word. I’m thankful and lucky to have joined this gym and have only had exceedingly positive experiences on the mats.

John Cosgrove: My kids and I have trained at Alex and Lorton locations for almost 10 years. Great training, family environment, even my mom loves being there to watch her grandkids roll. If you're an adult that wants good training, come here. If you want your kids to learn to defend themselves, come here.

Shonna Perkins: My wife and I decided to try this locations cross fit class and were disappointed with the flow. Being both familiar with Solidierfit and my wife being a pass member of Title Boxing we were dishearted with the lack a organization in the class this morning. Not given the plan for day's workout prior to starting, the trainer would demostrate to the class how to preform the desired exercise when NOT modifited, but would only show the modifed version once everyone else completed the exercise then move on to the next session without any direction and leaving those trying to complete the modifed exercise.

Josef Puechner: Love the place, I focus on Crossfit and the community and support from the coaches and management is awesome!

Alfredo Elias: I personally love this place, I feel like everybody is friendly, and can help you reach your goal or help you with whatever journey you are on.

Hyun Kwak: Been a member for many years. An MMA gym is not so scary as one may think. At least at the gym, everyone is trying to help others out. the environment is very friendly and family like. Self defense is also taught, and some fun events are held from time to time.
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! Its been awesome having you as part of our community for so many years and hopefully a lot more to come!

Cageside Mma: Wow, where do you begin? AMAZING instructors!! Beautiful, clean facility. This place is outstanding! I highly recommend!

EvolveAll - Martial Arts and Training Studio: what do users think?

Cinnamon Tucker: My kids have been going here for the last year and a half and they love it so much! They've been a part of the youth martial arts program there and have now since received their blue stripe and red stripe respectively. The instructors, even to include the teen black belt instructors, have all been amazing and so friendly and helpful. My kids love them and I love them, too! The owner, Master Emerson, is so nice, polite and generally cares for all of his customers and treats them like family. Everyone here feels like family, including Brian, who works at the front and also does massage therapy! His massages have helped me so much! Definitely a must try for the whole family and a huge community/family to add into your life!
Response: Omg we love y’all!!! ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Melissa P: We started going to Evolve almost 2 years ago for our daughter to learn how to defend herself and have more confidence as she was been bullied at school... Thank goodness we found Evolve all, it has been an amazing journey for our daughter and us to see her grow up, get her confidence back and make new friends. Here, they don't just learn martial arts, they learn life lessons, respect and it helps them build their character. Recently they also started a women's self defense / jiu jitsu class, that as I wait for our daughter to finish her class I now take mine. For me personally it's a great workout physically as mentally, I end up sweating like crazy and my head is going over the techniques instead of stressing over life. It has given me also a little bit more confidence, I barely just started and at least I can get a workout in while the little one is in class. The group is women's only and very welcoming, we help and assist each other in learning the new techniques everyday and Master Emerson is very patient even with someone who asks a thousand questions like me. I super recommend it, you can do the 2 week trial and see if you like it, which is great so you don't have to commit yourself from the gecko to a year membership and it's not only "one" class like they do in other gyms. Just to give an update, today we had to go in to drop of something and I had been having a horrible migraine for 4 days as I usually get them. Samson the massage GURU, kindly asked if he could do a massage to aliviate my ailment....to be honest I said yes just to nice but I really didn't think it was going to help.... I was SO WRONG!!! He was able to take away my migraine that I had been having for 4 days in a matter of minutes!! He has some serious magical hands I am telling you! If you need a massage to relax, aliviate any migraines, definitely stop by and ask for Samson!! He is the best!!
Response: Thanks Melissa! You and Alex are an asset to EvolveAll! Thanks for being part of our community and also for posting those pictures of the class. They are getting a lot of views!

Melanie Odria: This place is AMAZING! I love the studio so much and I look forward to each training session. EvovleAll has an extensive growing list of programs and events that you can participate in. The owner is a wonderful person who truly cares about the studio, staff, and most of all the entire community. Each instructor is very talented, knowledgeable, and most of all they are caring to everyone. Give EvolveAll a shot when you can! They have programs for all ages, this place is very family-friendly. My nephews, sister, and myself truly love this place.

Patti Grady: I’m so happy with Evolve all our experience has been so amazing. The instructor are so professional. The staff is also welcoming and nice. My boys enjoy the class and always get a great workout. The programs are very structure and love how they emphasized on how to prevent bullying at school. I also want to thank Melanie and Kamil for introducing us to Evolve all. So greatful for meeting Mr Christian and Mr Elijah and all the team leads. Thank you so much 😊
Response: So happy to have you and your family!!

Elika Bowmer: Cannot say enough great things about EvolveAll!!! We have been extremely happy with the level of instruction my son has received and the discipline he has learned during his time here. My son loves coming to classes and continuing to advance his martial arts skill set. He has learned so much in a short amount of time and cannot get enough of this place. The instructors are all fantastic!!! They have high expectations for the kids, but Work with them help them achieve. They truly care about the kids and it shows!!! We feel blessed to be part of the EvolveAll family! Thank You EvolveAll!!!

M Seo: The number one thing we love about EvolveAll is the community. The owner, staff, and clients here are top notch. You will be warmly welcomed and encouraged. After years of tried and failed attempts at exercise routines and programs, I have finally found a place to grow. My daughter would live here, if she could. We have a family membership. You won’t find a better deal anywhere. The ability to drop in to any class at any time allows great flexibility. Youth martial arts, jujitsu, strength training and yoga. As a beginner I have felt so supported. The guidance I’ve been given is priceless. The women only jujitsu class has been a safe place for me to step out of my comfort zone. The massage program is amazing as well. I’m learning about my body and finally overcoming some issues I’ve had for decades. EvolveAll is wonderful for the whole family. They have added a homeschool martial arts program- -wish this had been here a few years back. The only thing I’d change is to offer more weekday morning classes.
Response: Lets keep growing! ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼 So happy to have you and Caroline!

Wendy Dean: EvolveAll is hands down the best martial arts, fitness, and wellness community in Northern VA! I've tried a lot of places but EvolveAll has it ALL. My kids have become superior martial artists (and kinder, more confident people) and I have benefited so much from yoga (shout out to Sarah and Jen - awesome instructors). I avoid medication by getting theraputic massage. Brian Samson is one of the most gifted massage therapists - great at isolating the cause of pain and helping to heal injuries. Check out Evolve -you won't regret it!

bfpcollins: My son has been attending martial arts classes at Evolve All for just over a year. We could not be more pleased with the experience we've had there. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The class is just challenging enough without being frustrating. My son has gained confidence by learning to work hard towards a goal, and after all that hard work, having a huge celebration at the Growth Ceremony. Evolve All ROCKS!

Cecilia Hewitt: My two kids have been taking martial arts classes at Evolve All for a little while and love it! Personally, I am very impressed with the instructors and staff. They are all knowledgeable, professional, fair, caring and positive. I am pleased that my kids have picked a sports activity that is not only good for their bodies but for their minds too (at Evolve All students also learn to focus, about self discipline, positive thinking and respect). If you are a working parent you may want to check in to their after school program. It includes: pick up from school, regular martial arts classes, other organized physical games and activities, crafts, home work help and more. Evolve All does what its name suggests - this place evolves all people that sign up for the ride!

Kelly Bach: EvolveAll is by far the most welcoming training center I have ever experienced. As someone without any martial arts experience, much less any jiu jitsu training, they were incredibly supportive, welcoming, and knowledgable. People of ALL levels should feel comfortable training at EvolveAll -- their expertise will help you reach your goals while having a fun time doing so! It is obvious that Cesar, Emerson, and the other leaders are both incredibly experienced and passionate about their sport, and they share that passion with everyone at EvolveAll.
Response: Thanks so much for the lovely review. See you soon!

Ascend Institute of Martial Arts: what do users think?

Tracy Taborga: My kids are in elementary and middle school and really enjoy going to Ascend Institute! It is the best Jiu jitsu studio in the area! The classes are very educational and everyone there gets along well. The Instructors are amazing teachers (blue and black belts) while giving you a very good work out. It's clean, free parking, and reasonable rates. Great adult classes too! Highly recommend for any skill level from beginner to advanced!

Gerrit Davis: This gym becomes home very quickly. The community consists of people from all walks and the instructors are so knowledgeable! I highly recommend Ascend to anyone and think it is extremely well-suited for folks looking to try jiu jitsu for the very first time.

Melli Bennett: I have taken two self-defense workshops with Uriel so far and I strongly recommend Ascend Institute of Martial Arts. They teach real solutions that anyone can use for self-defense and the training is applicable to reality. Their programs are great for anyone with a willingness to be prepared for a situation where you may have to rely on yourself alone to protect you and your loved ones. You don't need to be coordinated or have any martial arts experience to learn this. The techniques Uriel teaches, and the mind set behind them, are simple and effective. You learn to defend under pressure and how the body reacts when you perform the techniques. Where many martial arts studios limit you to what you can learn in a certain amount of time, the instruction here at the Ascend is designed to teach as much as you can learn in as little or as much time as you need. Excellent instructors, practical and effective lessons, at a very reasonable rate make this program one of a kind. Time and money well spent!

engelien zegers: Had a great session at Ascend with Uriel . We love that they are so supportive and instruction on self defense was greatly appreciated. This is a wonderful environment to learn Martial Arts !! Honest and supportive staff that is there when you need them.

A.J. Calbert: I have been coming to Ascend since January 2018 for fitness classes. The classes are challenging, and I can tell that I am getting stronger and can handle more cardio than before. The coaches take their time to explain the exercises and push you to keep going even when it gets tough.

Danyal Floisand: I really enjoy this place and the people that work there. I only do the strength & conditioning and cardio kickboxing classes (non-contact membership), which I thoroughly enjoy both and receive helpful advice from the staff. I would give 5 stars, but don't completely enjoy that there is only one changing room which is basically for the men.

Sean Wignall: Amazing instructors, and one of the nicest facilities in the area. The brazilian jiu jitsu is fantastic. The location is convenient and metro accessible off the red line. I recommend stopping in!

jokerjitsu 13: Visiting family in the area and Josh and Ascend welcomed me with open arms and made me feel comfortable and like part of the team! I highly recommend this place for great instruction and a family atmosphere. Thank you from Jodi!

Maya Olic: Amazing first experience!! loved working with Uriel! Highly recommending for all parents in Bethesda area, it will change your kids lives!

Cain Stratton: Non-transparent fee schedule and uncooperative staff who refuse to state anything on electronic record bar broad, general claims. I'd recommend moving to a business that's willing to put their money where their mouth is and not hide behind verbal statements. When I asked why they refused to disclose information on record, they avoided answering the question.

DC Aikido Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?

Akire Adams: For anybody looking to learn self defense and build a foundation in martial arts I think this would be a great place to start but you have to want it and actually put forth the effort and ask questions coming here definitely feels like I'm part of the family and the price per month is affordable so if you want to start and gain some personal confidence I definitely think you should join!

walter lewis: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueAll of the staff are very empowering and professional. I felt welcomed. The instructors are very patient and humble. I would highly recommend DC Aikido to anyone seeking to develop self confidence, patience, and self defense skills.

CST CST: Michael Sensei organized an amazing trip to Japan this year. We were 12 people that spent 8 days wonderful days training and sightseeing with members of our sister dojo in Naha and Okinawa city, in Japan. This was my second trip with DC Aikido, and let me tell you it was legendary! We had the best time ever, We immersed ourselves in the Japanese culture. We had the experience of sleeping in a typical Japanese bed. We enjoyed the most exotic foods, and most importantly, made wonderful friends! Hopefully, the Japanese group will come to visit DC next year. Can't wait to show them around town! Thank you Michael Sensei for organizing this epic trip!
Response: And Hilda, we all can't wait for you to come back to Japan a third time!! Your presence on the trip made it that much MORE special. Thank you for all you do!!

Gideon Culman: Nothing but high praise for DC Aikido! I joined the studio last summer for two reasons: to work up a sweat and to use aikido as a physical prism that casts new light on the conversations I conduct day-in, day-out for work as a life coach. From day 1 it has superseded my expectations in the following ways: Everybody is supportive. Anytime I have been stuck, somebody has been there to show me the way. The instructors are eager and attentive. The sparkle on the sheen of DC Aikido’s bright culture is its students, who patiently and respectfully help bring less advanced students to their next level. Every lesson is enlightening. Each class points to new ways I can better serve my clients. Whether we study balance, flexibility, striking or grabbing, not a single lesson goes by without offering up new insights. These insights translate immediately into more adroit and powerful conversations – and satisfied clients.

Rio's “mhall3D” Art 1: GREAT Dojo! I have been training for about a year at DC Aikido and I love it! The folks there are amazing! Veltri Sensei and his team provide a fun and friendly environment for kids and adults. I have gained so much than just learning Aikido. I have gained confidence, strength, and entire Dojo family that I value as my own family. I have found that in training he continually pushes his students to improve their game, both in examining the group as a whole and pinpointing the exact areas that each individual student needs to improve. The support I have received at the dojo has helped improve not only my Aikido and techniques, but my overall sense of self on the mat...my weaknesses and strengths (physical AND mental) are pointed out to me daily and corrected with patience and understanding. What's more, there has ALWAYS been someone of high rank or experience available to answer any question I might have at any given time. I can't say enough about how grateful I am to have met and trained with such an extraordinary man and group of people. Thank you DC Aikido!!!

Jonathan Lemmond: It has been almost two years since I started going to DC Aikido. I love it. I was nervous to start a martial art, but Sensei Michael Veltri, all of the instructors, and all of the students, make DC Aikido incredibly welcoming. I've befriended a great group of people, somehow now get along better with all of the other people in my life, and have gotten in great shape. Training at DC Aikido is tremendously fun.

Ronald Lloveras: I've been a member since August 2012 and I'm glad I took the time to visit/review/research all martial arts locations that are available in the DC area. I was very impressed by the dojo since I first stepped onto their mat. Everyone I met was friendly and very welcoming. After the two tutorial sessions with Charly, I knew that I was going to be a proud member of this dojo. The black belt instructors are great and the all the rest of the members are great as well. Unlike other places I've visited, I didn't feel intimidated by anyone at this dojo. Everyone wanted to help each other learn the techniques and the philosophy behind them. The dojo is clean and well kept. It is conveniently located across the Woodley Park metro and just a few miles by bike.

Jeannys Flamine NNEMNBENG (Jayjay86): I just came back from a trip to Japan that was organized by Michael Sensei . We spent (12 of us) 10 days in Okinawa during which we had the opportunity to receive teaching from Yamaguchi Sensei( Michael Sensei’s Sensei). It was not only a good opportunity for me to grow as an aikido practitioner but also to discover and deeply understand that the skills learned on the mats could be applied in each and every aspect of my life . The art itself, the people( my fellow classmate and of course our Japanese hosts) , the scenery , all contributed in way. They made this trip, my trip, a memorable experience. I tried my best to describe the emotions that I felt during this trip to Japan, but words won't be enough to convey the true meaning of what I experienced . It has to be lived. I hope you’ll be the next to go . I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed .
Response: AND, we are allll so glad you came Jeannys! Thank you for your dedication, commitment, and teamwork helping to make the trip such a great experience!

Christine Ju: We held our daughter's 7th birthday party at DC Aikido. Noah was wonderful to work with, and the price was very reasonable given what was included. They were very accommodating, and the kids seemed to have a great time. Thank you!

Shah Alom Khokon: Good for kids.

Lloyd Irvin's Mixed Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?

Will O.: 10/10 recommend to anyone and everyone of any age, shape, size. I stepped in for the first time around Nov 2017 and knew it was the place for me to be. The atmosphere of excellence is present whether you go train in the morning or evening; you’ll always see pros and world champions training. It’s a very welcoming place for people who just want to go in and lose weight, the elderly, even people who never threw one punch in their life. Master Donnie, Master Lloyd, Coach Jamal I’ve always been able to reach out and talk with them after classes. I’ve become more overall healthy since coming here, built better habits, I’ve learned self confidence here, the power of positive self affirmation, and much more. Big thanks to this amazing team.

Todd Margolis: I love this gym!! I've been coming to this gym since 1998. It's always felt like home to me. If I want a hard push, I get it. Just drilling and technique, I get it. They work with my injuries and training schedules as my life has changed over 22 years. Now I take my kids and my nephews to visit with me and they get the same fantastic treatment. If you're looking for a home, look here first. It's a family first gym that just happens to produce a lot of world champions too!! And neither the family environment or world champion development happened by accident. It is the brain child of one of the smartest, hard working and devoted people I've ever met - Master Lloyd Irvin. See you on the mat!!

Scott Cook: Lloyd Irvin MMA is amazing! Not only does the academy put out some of the best BJJ & MMA fighters in the world, it’s wonderfully structured for beginners and children as well. Friendly and welcoming environment where you’ll feel like family from day one. The instructors are top notch, you get to learn from champions. Even if competition isn’t something that interests you, knowing that the instructors are teaching you moves that work on the highest level gives confidence that you’re learning stuff that really works! No matter your goals, whether it’s to lose weight and get in better shape, build confidence and self-esteem, be in a goal oriented and positive environment, learn something new and make friends, fill a competitive void or you want to have a child that is happy, confident and has the tools to protect themselves against bullies... LLOYD IRVIN MMA IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

SkyHy Consultants LLC: Best Bjj /mma gym in the state(Maryland) with a super kids program and an awesome adult program as well. And the cool thing about it is you learn with some of the best Bjj team in the world .

MOM BOSS: We come from Texas when it’s training camp time. Everyone is very welcoming. Very professional. Great facility. They have a great kids program that I can’t wait to enroll my little one soon when he’s old enough! Coach’s are all amazing! And they have a handful of CHAMPION level fighters that come out of team Lloyd Irving! So wether you are a beginner wanting to see what MMA is about or goal is to compete I highly recommend this place!

Rhiannon Odom: Lloyd Irvin’s gym is hands down the best jiu jitsu training in the DMV. I’ve hopped around a few different gyms before getting the invite to Lloyd’s gym and there’s no comparison. He takes ALL of his athletes goals seriously and puts everything into his students, even if he is out of town to coach and support his UFC fighters, he is checking in on us and letting us know what we should be working on in his absence. He pushes his athletes to reach their full potential mentally and physically. The environment is very clean, safe, and respectful. I’m glad I’ve found my gym home and I wouldn’t recommend any other gym for jiu jitsu training.

Keith Gibson: Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy(LIMMA) has been my martial arts home for over nine years. As a police officer it is important that I stay fit and current in the latest style of mixed martial arts. Because of the training I have received at LIMMA I have been able to safely deescalate several situations without having to use lethal force. My son has been training with Lloyd Irvin since he was three years old. He's now 12 and continues to train. The staff is very knowledgeable and they work hard to create a family friendly environment. The skills he has learned at LIMMA have given him the confidence to defend himself in any situation. I am so impressed with LIMMA that I will be enrolling my daughter so that she will also be able to protect herself and have that same confidence. If you are looking for a mixed martial arts academy, I would strongly recommend that you consider Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy, you won’t be disappointed.

T J: Just do your research before going there. It’s false advertisement all the way around. They don’t even have a locker room, to change in. Just one small 10x10 room w/ 20+ other ppl changing into their fighting attire. They false advertise the price that was online. It won’t be the same once you go in there and talk to them about signing up. They’re never on time mostly late. Honestly that’s why i never came back since the first free class. In Muay Thai class we had to put our bag in the stairwell. Luckily no one stole my belongings. That’s another why I was confuse, when people speak highly about how you train so many pro ufc fighters & etc. and Then you see the gym smdh, it’s like they’re tryna cram so many mix martial arts in that small building. You charge so much for fighters to be in that gym weak a** gym but yet you give nothing in return to your fighters, the people that putting money in there, the payments that keeps that place running. That’s just not good business. Y’all need to do better in managing that company.

Jim K: The most successful Jiu Jitsu school run by an American. Top notch coaching and instruction that produces WORLD CHAMPIONS at every age level and every belt level. World champion kids. World champion adults. White belt through black belt. Highly structured, world class kids program. These kids are not only learning self defense, they’re learning life skills and building good habits that give them a competitive edge in school and the workplace. Lots of kids in the kids program at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy have not only won championships but have excelled in the classroom. Lots of kids have gone to college and thrived, and have moved forward to become upstanding citizens of their communities. Many of the kids are now giving back, teaching other kids how to be champions on and off the mat. Talk about building strong families and helping the community! It doesn’t get better than that! And sure, the competitors win. The kids win, the adult competitors win. But there is more to this program than just competing and winning. So many kids and adults that have made the smart decision to train at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy have achieved personal goals, like: — Shed unwanted body fat — Become more confident — Learn how to defend oneself in a fight — Do better in school — Perform better at work — Improve focus — Feel safer on the streets — Make new friends — Be part of a successful TEAM — And so much more... The list of benefits you could receive from joining a school like this can go on and on, so the best advice I could give is to call the school immediately and get started NOW. I love this place and always will and I am confident you will too.

Nikki Jackson: I have been at Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts with my son since he was 3 years old (he's 8 now). I have thoroughly enjoyed the instruction and discipline that has been taught to him. I've liked it so much so that I began talking classes myself over a year ago. Since taking classes, I've lost a tremendous amount of weight and improved my overall health and fitness level. LIMMA is more than a gym, it is a family oriented establishment with a circle of people that will motivate and support you in achieving your goals.

Krav Maga Federation DC: what do users think?

John Kuna: I've got to say I was wholly disappointed in the quality of the class. I've been training Krav at other schools for about 4-5 years and only needed to observe the beginner class to see that there were issues with the techniques all the way down to stance and hand placement. The classes are an hour to an hour and a half long and 20-25 minutes of that is just a fitness/circuit training of calisthenics. To top it off, you spend zero time getting physical training with a partner to gain tactile experience. Overall a poor experience just watching it, let alone paying. I'll also add to the review; it's a huge red flag when a studio of any martial art refuses to allow you a trial class. Observing a class is not going to give relatively inexperienced students a chance to gauge the quality of instruction. And to respond to Brian's response below, I stayed the full length of the class and spoke to him about the efficacy of some of the techniques I watched. It seems to me that the motions taught are more akin to Karate (his more significant background) than they are for Krav. It's been two years and I still vividly remember that conversation and how certain I was after speaking to him that I'd never come back.
Response: Hi John, Thank you for coming to visit. I'm not sure what class you watched though... all of our classes are 1 hr and the second half is all self defense techniques with partner work. We do have a 10 minute warm up to get loose and condition. The warm up can extend if it includes striking. Perhaps if you had stayed for the whole class we could have discussed stance and hand placement, instead of just having your thoughts posted here. Best, Brian

John Q: I have practiced here for 2 years. The Federation has a great reputation and a depth of experiance and knowledge that becomes a valued resource once you pass simple strikes and start learning more complicated strategies. Instruction is strict, concise, and well documented with training guides. Class is full contact with 17oz gloves, and mouth guards. We are encouraged to not stop the attack, that it is our sparring partners responsibility to block the attack and move off the line. In this way we get a realistic training and develops situational awareness.
Response: Time flies “John”. 14oz. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hussein Medhat: After my first class I had doubts about whether I should learn Krav Maga under Brian or should I return to Nova MMA where I took three classes in the past. In Nova MMA, I got to actually hit and learn combinations right away. As for Krav Maga Federation, you won't get to this until you pass your beginner test to the yellow belt. That being said, I do not regret sticking to KMF and not learning under a different instructor. After a few classes you actually realize that learning combinations and hitting stuff might not be the best idea because your form is awful and needs some serious work. Our classes are usually small, so Brian will give you a lot of attention. Even if you are standing in the back, Brian will see you and pick on you until you get the form right. Now, speaking about Brian. He is really patient with us. He will ask us after showing a new move or re-showing us a new move, if we have any question. If we do, he will answer the question regardless of how repetitive the question is or how ridiculous it might be. I haven't done any martial arts since I was a child and I didn't think I'd do again because I hated every instructor I had when I was a kid. That's different with Brian. However, Brian is a bit strict. He will not allow people to practice if they show up after hours. Keep that in mind when you are signing up for classes. If you are not sure you can make the times then talk with Brian or figure out a way to show up on time. Most of the class usually shows up fifteen minutes early to warm up and stretch and sometimes one will go over a move with Brian. I would definitely recommend KMF for anyone who is looking to learn Krav Maga.

Eddie Lee: Great instructor. Cares about his students.

Capitol Hill Aikikai: what do users think?

Emily Wilkins: I’ve been coming to Capitol Hill Aikikai for almost seven years and I cannot say enough good things about Mike and Meipo’s style of teaching and philosophy, as well as the amazing community at the dojo. Aikido has not only given me the confidence to defend myself as a woman, but also is a highlight in my week. I regularly leave class in a better mood than when I arrived. Mike and Meipo started the dojo for the community. We go out for dinner once a week and have several other events throughout the year. I’ve meet many incredible people and friends through aikido. And it’s the most diverse group of folks I’ve ever been apart of - which makes for really good conversations! If you’re looking for self-defense, a good exercise, or just a community within DC, I highly recommend Capitol Hill Aikikai

Simon Clément: The instructors are very pedagogical and make it accessible for beginners, as well as giving a high-level teaching. The people practicing at this Dojo form a community, with a very good atmosphere during practice and outside. I highly recommend it, for all levels !

James: I've worked with many aikido teachers and been active in many clubs, and this is my favorite dojos!

Sarosh Khan: Wonderful place to train, especially for those looking to build strong fundamentals.

MiKiDo: what do users think?

jica wang: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueMy two children have studied here for a year. The master Brent is very dedicated and professional. The content of the class is also very colorful, and the children like it very much. Too bad we moved and had to stop classes. Wish mikido could open a school near where we live now.

Living in Arlington Virginia: Both of my children have had the joy of training with Master Brent at Mikido for many years. Highly recommend!

Jonathan Benitez: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueI couldn't have been happier with my selection of a mixed martial arts gym. I initially joined to help improve my cardio and after 6 months I feel like I have accomplished that and so much more. The instructors are top notch and so are the athletes and other participants. I strongly recommend Mikido for kids and adults, beginners on up.

Tammy Gomez: We have been participating in Mikido for one year now with our now 6 year old son. He absolutely loves going to class and is so proud of his skills and accomplishments! Mikido is very flexible - you don’t have to choose just one day/one time, and the instructors are amazing with the children. There is a good balance of fun mixed with skills, and my son loves switching from boxing gloves to grappling and other techniques. He is now a Greenbelt and we are so proud of him and going to Mikido!

Naeem Brewington: I've been training different forms of martial arts for way too long now and it's very very very hard to find a combination of good skill, dedicated people, intense material and familial camaraderie in a combat oriented environment. You can come here for traditional kata and forms, sparring (hard or easy), grappling and weapons.

Wassim Mosbahi: It was an excellent choice for my 2 kids to do something after school. very friendly and helpful staff, nice environment . We are extremely happy with everything .

Alberto Boggio: Amazing, taught me discipline, perseverance, balance, grew my mental and physical strength

Boris Alvarez: Great place for kids, adults, everyone affordable and the masters are black belts. More than a place to training.

Hands On Real Estate: Been with these folks since i was a teenager. I love how it's a family oriented gym. Great for people of all age groups.

Miroslav Jocz: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityGreat instructors and skillful athletes!

Krav Maga CDK: what do users think?

Claudia Jaldin: Nothing but good things to say about this place. I took my 13 y.o. to a few different places close to my home and I wasn't convinced with any. Most have mixed age groups with majority of the students in their mid 30's and up making it hard for my very shy 13 y.o. to feel comfortable. After months of looking for a good place for my kid to learn self-defense I finally decided to try CDK. I was a bit hesitant at first due to the distance from my home (mainly during rush hour) but I have to say this place is totally worth the drive. After the first intro class we knew this was it. They actually have a teens only class so all the students were around the same age. The energy and the enthusiasm in the room was contagious. After 20 minutes the kids looked like they had been working out for hours. The warm up was intense and the class was so much better than I expected. I definitely would recommend this place.
Response: We really appreciate your review and we are so glad your child had a great experience. We will continue to do everything we can to make sure you and or your teen receives the best instruction available.

Joanna Thomas: CDK is awesome! The staff and instructors are amazing. DJ the owner is very personable and always sits down and has a chat with every new person to get to know them & understand their goals. The classes are very inclusive and diverse. It has been great for my fitness & my confidence!
Response: HI Joanna. We really appreciate your 5 star rating. We will continue to give our 100% to giving the best training available.

Blvck Papi: Me being a part of this gym has greatly improved my life, not only physically, but mentally as well. Having a means to alleviate stress, in addition to knowing how to defend yourself in times that seem to get a bit more hectic everyday, means significantly more than just exercising. DJ and the rest of the staff at CDK are accommodating, patient, diligent, thorough, and dedicated to making your training experience as relatable and realist as possible. Confidence During Kaos. Greg Schoenebeck: I am a veteran and for many years after leaving service I have still struggled to fill the emotional void... the loss of that esprit de corps... of individuals coming together to become a team... a family (regardless of color or creed), united in cause and belief. I don't like Saturday birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese...I missed being pushed to (what I thought was) physically and mentally to my limits, only to find I had more to give. I missed leadership who instilled a commitment to excellence. I guess you could say I coped through the years with addressing that emotional void with hobbies... My wife's not a huge fan of my hobbies... ;) I suck at wood work. My kids laugh at my "handyman" skills and I don't blame them. So now I feel myself more or less relegated to an equipment manager and driver for my kid's various hockey events. It wasn't until my wife pushed me to start doing something for me (and not kids' stuff) that I started to reclaim that dormant feeling I held inside. I discovered CDK and it reinvigorated my soul and reclaimed my identity. If church is for the soul, than CDK is for the mind & body. DJ is a master of his art and demands perfection. He is my drill instructor issuing commands. With each pushup, knee, and punch I can feel myself getting quicker and becoming more fluid and he demands the techniques are done properly to give you the proper foundation to build upon. Erica is a bulldog, and I mean that with love. Quick and tenacious, she just flat out brings energy that makes you better with each class. She's the epitome of why Krav can be done effectively, regardless of age or gender. David brings reality to what the art is. Krav is survival. It's not pretty, but it's a life skill that will bring you home safely to your family or bring your family out of harm's way. He ensures we go slow to develop that muscle memory such that we in turn will be masters of our own art. To handle stressful situations on the street. In closing, CDK is an extension of my military family and former life. I recommend to any Vet out there who is struggling to find or reclaim that feeling (driven into us since day 1 of boot camp), please give this a try. Even if you are not a Vet and have that drive, that inner warrior, who wants to be pushed past your current limits to new heights, do it. There's others out there and then there's the CDK way.
Response: Wow, thanks Greg. It really warms our hearts to hear your story. We appreciate your 5 star review but more importantly we appreciate your service to this country. Let's keep training, keep moving forward and keep reaching for those new heights.

Brandon Bell: Been going for 8 months! My best take-away is they challenge you while wanting you to succeed. All ages and body types are welcome. Anyone can flexibly practice the moves---they focus on principles and practice---you do not need to be fit like Bruce Lee! Classes are in groups. But the trainers rotate almost each time so I always learn something new and get an unexpected workout. The CDK team is always responsive by phone alongside emails blasts, so we always have proactive support. Gym is included as a big bonus.
Response: Thanks for great review Brandon. We will continue to do our best to push you towards your UNLIMITED potential.

yula kapetanakos: I started my training in the CDK studio about a year and a half ago. It's been an amazing experience from every perspective. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and all around excellent people. They challenge us to excel while also prioritizing safety and respect for ourselves and each other. DJ is a pro in his craft and an exceptional instructor. He is right there training with the rest of us, leading by example. I often travel to remote and sometimes dangerous locations which is why I wanted to be versed in self-defense. This is the best shape I've ever been in and I feel 100 times more confident to defend myself. In the process, I also became part of a fantastic community.
Response: Thanks Yula! We have enjoyed training with you and we look forward to helping and watching you grow more and more.

V Crowers: I cannot say enough about CDK. It is the best thing that I have done for myself. I work in an inner city ER and feel much more prepared to defend myself, also in the best shape of my life. I was nervous about starting because I never had any experience in fighting/martial arts and barely knew how to throw a punch. The instructors and the other students are supportive. Plus there is gym access and validated garage parking for $1.

Leah Van Sciver: I love Krav Maga CDK! I haven’t been to a martial arts class in ten years, and the instructors have been whipping me back into shape! They ensure every movement is correct, even those during the warm up! The atmosphere is friendly yet professional, they offer free full access to the gym, and what’s best is you can attend as many classes as you want throughout the week and on Saturdays. I definitely recommend this place to anyone wishing to learn self defense and/or to get back into the game!

Eileen McNamara: Krav Maga CDK provides a terrific environment to learn realistic self-defense. All of the CDK instructors are very knowledgeable, give clear personalized advice, and make training fun! Classes (in person and virtual) are an excellent physical and mental workout. The high quality training and supportive community make Krav Maga CDK an ideal self-defense program!

Kate Clothier: Highly recommend!! I joined CDK about a year ago. I remember walking into my first class not knowing anyone and having absolutely zero self-defense experience. I was nervous but D.J. took the new students aside and showed us some basic moves we’d need for class and made us all feel at ease. I was sold after that first class. Everyone was so supportive and helpful (instructors and classmates) and the amount you learn each class is insane. I now go at least twice a week and feel more confident/safer when I am out. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that I am capable of protecting myself, it's quite liberating. If you have any interest in learning about Krav Maga I cannot recommend CDK enough. The facility is nice, the instructors top notch, and the fellow students are great. It's a wonderful community of people working together to better themselves. As long as you show up willing to learn and listen to the instructors, (they know their stuff and are pretty badass) you will absolutely learn a lot and push yourself to a higher level. Come join our CDK family!

Fifty/50 Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?

Adrienne Pires: Highly recommend this martial arts academy! Our kids have been going here for about 10 months and love it. Started with BJJ, but then switched to capoeira which they enjoyed more because of the acrobatics. The coaches and staff are really supportive and patient with the kids. The gym is pretty big and they have cameras so parents can observe from the lobby. Parking can be tough if you don't get there early, but there's room on the neighboring side streets which aren't too far away. Typically there's always people leaving between classes so I have always been able to find a stall. The prices are reasonable. Upfront costs may seem high, but it includes the uniform and which they need anyway. Otherwise it's a great price. They also offer discounts for siblings, military, etc.

JohnathanBolton: I am visiting from Hawaii and wanted to train at Fifty/50. I came straight from the airport after traveling over 10 hours. The lunchtime class was great. Very friendly students and instructors. You must visit if you are in the DC area.

Jordyn Short: I used to train at Fifty/50 when I lived in the DC area. The instruction was excellent. It’s one of the best BJJ schools in the area. They do a great job teaching fundamentals so you will have a solid base as you progress. The one thing anyone should know going in is it isn’t a school for people who don’t have “thick skin.” Instructors are genuinely encouraging, but they can also be a bit heavy handed/savage if you do something stupid (e.g. unsafe rolling). Ultimately, I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to go in with an open mind, good attitude, and “no quit” mentality.

Ryan Shen: Loves all of my coaches here. Best place for jiu-jitsu and striking in the the area. The one thing that makes me reconsider relocating out of Virginia is this gym. Will keep training here for as long as I can.

Justin Rader: Absolutely phenomenal place to train!! I am a 2X No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt World Champion and have been practicing jiu-jitsu for 21 years, and I visit 50/50 Martial Arts often and continue to learn!! Ryan Hall, Jen Hall, and the entire staff of instructors are some of the best in the world, and not only that, they are fantastic teachers!! I have never once visited and left feeling I took nothing away. I have improved with each visit!! And to top it all off, everyone is super friendly and welcoming, and they truly have a fantastic family environment that helps build and promote all who are there while still keeping that "old school" mentality which is so important!! Clean academy, amazing instructors, fantastic written curriculum to follow, and a great group of people who will make you feel like family!! I could not recommend 50/50 Martial Arts academy enough!! If you live in Virginia, this is 100% the place to train!!

D C: Great place to train. Both bjj and striking program is awesome and taught by great instructors. Everyone is super friendly and the school has a very accommodating schedule

CA Babs911: Great academy! One of the best on the East Coast. My son and I have been training their for for eight months and the training/learning is awesome. The academy is very family oriented and has an outstanding after school program for the kids, plus a summer camp for them as well. Fifty/50 goes above and beyond to ensure all their students are well trained in BJJ by world class professionals!

Lauren Middleton: I trained there back when i lived in the states... its hard being a BJJ black belt and still get expert instruction.. Jen Hall was my instructor back in 2016 and boy do i miss her experience.. living in Switzerland now i find it hard to train at an elite level. Do yourself a favor and join this place it can change/Safe your life...

Chris Gaskill: A Clean, Well-Lighted Place -Friendly Atmosphere -World Class Instruction (For All Levels of Development) -Clean and Spacious Grappling Area You'll choke and be choked, get a great workout and a new perspective on life.

Renzo Cuadros: Huge mat....even nicer people. The best part about this place is that they have segmented their beginner class - you have a Fundamentals one for people with less than 6 months of experience that is taught by Quinn (an awesome black belt) - then you have fundamentals 2 taught by Jenn (or one of the other black belts) that teaches white belts with more than 6 months of experience. Then you have the rest of the classes. This place is great - can't wait to come back when I get off the road

College Park Mixed Martial Arts: what do users think?

Kofi Adease: Joshua Peters - School Owner, has created and fostered an incredible learning and culture here at CPMMA! Coach Josh is one of the most technically sound instructors in the area! He has a gift for communicating steps in technique clearly while guiding students to execute with pinpoint precision. The gym environment is very minimalistic but cozy most important CLEAN! The Tuition Fees can fit ANY Budget. This school has transformed causal onlookers into amazing competitors in both Muay Thai and BJJ! It's even has professional MMA Fighters in its stable. It's even welcome folks like me who've been trying to return to train more regularly. Man, Woman, Child it doesn't matter here. The intimidation wears off immediately the minute Coach Josh welcomes you at the door. This place is just simply INCREDIBLE! I can't say enough about it. If you're looking a Dynamic, Challenging, Accessible Martial Arts Experience to take your journey to the next level or even to begin your journey. Then look no further than College Park Mixed Martial Arts! Believe me now, thank me later! I'm looking forward to seeing you soon!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Nicholas Robison: The owner, Josh Peters, has been a training partner and a friend for more than 15 years. If you want to learn to protect yourself there's no better person to learn from. If you'd like to compete Josh can push you to your absolute limit. If you just want a fun workout he can help you get in shape. There are classes for everyone here. I highly recommend it.
Response: Thanks so much for the great review brother! Let's go rule the world

Yemi: This is one of the best mma gyms in the DMV. Josh has a good system in place. The environment is great. Few, if any, egos. Just people who want to train and get better Highly recommend this place
Response: Thanks for the great review brother!!!

Coleman McFarland: I come to train at this place as often as I can! It's worth the 45min drive from my house not just because of the people, but because the way Josh teaches seems to click with me immediately whether it's striking or grappling. Man's a Rolodex of Martial Arts. Love this place forever, Josh if you're reading this, thank you!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Christine Jacobsen: I'm from out of town (Colorado) for an extended stay and these guys welcomed me with open arms. I got great work in and felt completely at home. The members that I met are clearly dedicated training partners and the owner is skilled and great to train with!!! Highly recommend!
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! I look forward to training with you again while you are in town!

Paul Dynan: They have a great kids program, and the instructor does a phenomenal job of bringing the best out in them. Our two kids, 8 and 13, have been going for a while, and it's the only sports activity they've been able to get into. As well, it has really made them stronger (inside and out). We had tried Karate, etc, and it took having an active, hands-on, full (very safe) contact experience to get them excited and feel like they are learning something. The 13yr old actually does both child and adult classes now, and everyone makes it extremely welcoming and safe for him.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review. I hope everyone is doing well

Melody Hsieh: Great place to train and practice martial art ! Everyone is super welcoming and respectful. Great instructors and good for all ages and skill levels. More experienced students are willing to help you out during the class and open mat.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review Melody!

M Richmond: Really great gym and instructor. Very knowledgable. Thanks coach!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Peter Humulock: Josh is an amazing guy. He was also a teacher so he knows how to break things down really well. The place feels comfortable but they push you real hard. 10/10 would do again
Response: Thank you so much for the great review! Hope you swing by again soon

Matt Bichay: Very fun group of guys and gals. Everyone welcomes you regardless of background. Little whining, tons of learning, and tons of rolling. Also, very wrestler friendly. Tons of classes and open mats with people of all experience levels.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review. I can't believe it's been so long already.
