BETA Academy: what do users think?

Ma D: Awesome place for beginners and advanced BJJ lovers. Very friendly people. Good technics. I highly recommended this place who visiting Washington DC also who decided to start practising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Guys when you browsing different clubs with thoughts about what to choose please go there and you will meet really cool professional people. Good luck everyone. Oss.

Jack Cantlay: The instruction is top notch. Your instructors are amazing and follow a coherent system of training so that each week is a new thing. The gym culture is very friendly and welcoming but I still feel like I can get competitive live rolls. It really matters that your instructors are so friendly. That goes a long way. But they still push me! I love the balance.
Response: Thank you so much Jack, we appreciate that! We pride ourselves on our welcoming community and believe that a strong community fosters growth in our students.

Thuhuong Dao: - Coach to child ratio was excellent. - Coaches did a great job working the room and - working with each child/group. - Introduction/greet for my children’s first class was great and energetic. - Disciplining the students during class was thorough and appreciated. - Dismissal of students was organized (liked how the coach only let the kids go when he say the parents).
Response: HI there! Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate your feedback and we're so happy that you experienced the professionalism of our Kids' coaches!

Tara Trinity: Coach Carlos, coach D, everyone is amazing. We love Beta!!!! My son has come into an environment that supports him and is compassionate as well as disciplined. The diversity is something I was personally looking for, and that’s something that is even more a bonus.

Walter Bayer: Great place for all-levels of Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu enthusiasts. Very beginner-friendly with knowledgeable coaches who will patiently walk you through everything you need to know. After training here for a few sessions, you'll experience the great sense of community they foster. I loved that there was also a weight room to supplement training with strength & conditioning.

Tim .G: We were in DC on vacation and they welcomed us in for open mat, even stayed later to roll. Coach Gabriel was awesome. Awesome facility! Super friendly community! I definitely recommend!

Tyrone Calvin: I’m no strange to BETA academy and every time I go, I leave better than I arrived. Everyone is very friendly and professional. The Brazilian Ju Jitsu class is informative and state of the art in self defense.

CJ Francis: I love the welcoming culture, the high level and clarity of instruction, the daily availability of no gi classes as well as gi. Also the ample amount of time given for both drilling and sparring.

Saron Dessalegn: Friendly Coaches are willing to help and give good instructions!! Definitely recommend for a great education in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.
Response: Thank you so much Saron!

Amy Putens: In honesty we could not be more thrilled with our experience with BETA! We have been apart of the BETA community for approximately 2yrs. We started out just being an attendee of their summer program. After summer was over we would drive by often and my daughter would ask- "When do we get to go back to beta?" I knew then that this was where we needed to be. When you have a daughter (who is a girlie girlie) wanting to be apart of something so much bigger than Ballet or gymnastics I was sold. We then signed up for the after school program and we haven't turned back since. The excitement both my children have for their amazing staff and program is the reward for me at the end of the day. Having being I can trust in to guild my children down the right path and for my kids to respect them is 100% why we choose BETA!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU BETA! Thank you for all that you give!!!!!!
Response: Hi Amy, thank you so much for sharing your story with us! It makes us proud to have kids as enthusiastic and motivated as yours in our Kids Program!

Urban Boxing: what do users think?

Megan Eitel: This is the best boxing gym I’ve been to in DC. Coaches take every opportunity to improve individual form and technique while giving the entire class an excellent workout. Every coach provides an intense and unique workout. I especially love the attention to form and technique that are provided in both Josh and Jeremy’s classes. This gym, and all of its coaches have improved my boxing form, technique, strength and stamina.
Response: Hi Megan. Awesome! Super happy to hear that! We appreciate the kind words

Jeff Wong: Urban boxing is legit. Josh, Crane, and Arturo were all extremely friendly and highly skilled. They've designed classes to include a great combination between intense workouts while also teaching technique/skill. If you're wondering if you should go to Urban Boxing in Foggy Bottom, at least pop in and talk to staff. You won't be disappointed!

Andrew Monaghan: What a great gym! Crane gave me a warm welcome and all the coaches I worked with - Josh, Charles, Arturo and Jordan really knew their stuff (Arturo has the best taste in music though!). I came for the boxing - which was really good, and then started on kickboxing too... Thank you! I learnt a lot and can't recommend it highly enough... I hope to be back one day soon!

Vanessa Salazar: 100% recommend Urban Boxing to anyone looking for a high-quality boxing gym! All of the coaches are knowledgeable and friendly. All levels are welcome! Kickboxing with Ify on Wednesday’s are awesome!
Response: Thanks Vanessa! You rock :)

Brittany Bennett: I love this gym. I joined with zero boxing experience and have always found the coaches to be encouraging, enthusiastic, and very knowledgable about the sport. The classes are tough workouts, but I'm definitely in better shape now than I was when I started. The coaches do a great job getting around to everyone to offer more personalized instruction and pay a lot of attention to technique. As a woman, it's a bit nerve-racking to jump into a male-dominated sport, but I've always felt super comfortable and uplifted by coaches, staff, and other students at Urban Boxing. The classes are a good mix of genders, too. If it's your first time taking a boxing class, make sure you sign up for one of the introductory levels. It's a fun, supportive gym and a great workout! Definitely recommend.
Response: Thanks Brittany!

Anne Richardson: When my 14 yo son said to me “mom, I want to try boxing” I thought: “great! But how on earth do I get into the boxing world not knowing anything , and, it’s it going to be an ok place for a kid?” UB was incredible, they walked him through the into process, treated him like a kid with kindness but also as a serious athlete. They are patient, kind, and approachable. Christian and Josh in particular, are spectacular trainers and really great people. Crane is at the desk and is informed, kind, and a super friendly presence to greet you. My son is certainly challenged, and leaves the place feeling so great about himself every time:like going to church! We love UB and will continue to train there as long as we can!

Kara Holbrook: Best boxing gym in DC! Not only is it the hardest workout, but it's in a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. I felt so welcomed by Crane, Arturo & the entire rest of the team when I first joined in January. They have such variety in their classes/class times that it's easily accessible for everyone. Crane is the BEST and is so accommodating to everyone at the gym!! thank you Urban Boxing!
Response: Hello kara! Thanks a million for your kind-hearted review! Crane and Arturo Truly are some of the most kind hearted people i have came upon! Here at urban boxing we do not gatekeeper boxing! Everybody is welcome!

Nicolette DeLorenzo: I love urban boxing! The coaches are professionals, and yet make boxing feel accessible. I started kickboxing, then transitioned to taking all classes. You get the opportunity to train, spar, develop athletically and strategically. Would recommend urban boxing to anyone looking for not only a new workout routine, but a chance to feel empowered and strong inside and out!
Response: Thanks Nicolette, we love you back!

JLG: I have spent the past 4 months going to URBAN boxing in DC to train both one on one and through their group classes. My body has transformed. I went from 180lbs to 165lbs, feel stronger than ever, all while having fun. Wether you want more stamina, get in shape, loose weight, etc etc, URBAN boxing is an excellent choice with excellent coaches. If you are on the fence, trust me and just come in for one class. I cannot more recommend Krane and his team of coaches. Joshua, Jordan and Randal are my three favorite coaches for different reasons. and depending on the type of workout you want what's awesome is that they each have their own style. Joshua is technical the most sound, he is a traditional boxer and focuses on getting it done right while building up your core. there are no two same workouts with joshua. I also recommend his 1:1. Jordan gets you sweating in no time with a brutally good mix of HIIT and boxing. Randal on the weekends reaches you different styles of boxing, with different stands and brings a fun atmosphere where everyone participates or else push ups for everyone. LOVE IT! Krane the manager is himself a gym nut and will help you with anything you need. The gym is super clean, people all have masks and I feel super safe going. Will you be sore after workouts? YES, but its functionally sore. I actually look forward to being sore, I know its crazy but true. Look no further if you want a diverse group of folks working out from all ages, background and styles. So many classes are available, boxing, kickboxing, abs, etc etc. Come check it out. Highly recommended!!! Don't worry if you know how to box or not, no matter your level, you will get a workout in and progress no matter your goals.
Response: You rock! Thanks so much for the review!

Gabriel Söderberg: Super professional, honest, and with awesome atmosphere. No binding multi-month or yearly contracts for training- just as it should be. Also, awesome trainers and staff - totally recommend training here.
Response: Thanks so much Gabriel!

Fort Washington United: what do users think?

Esha: This is my son's first year attending FWU and I couldn't be more excited and blessed for my son to work with such a professional and polite staff. My son's tutor Ms. Nicole has worked tirelessly to make sure he not only stays on task for his grade level goals but that he also exceeds them.🙌🏽 My son also has some amazing coaches that are not only helping to teach him the various skills and techniques associated with MMA but they also teach him discipline, respect, and teamwork.😉 FWU has mastered the recipe for developing successful students and I'm glad my son is one of them.😊

Willie Hicks: Hope this review helps anyone on the fence……..our son is an energetic (kid has a lithium Ion Tesla battery), rambunctious, 100% boy. We love him to pieces but noticed his weight was slowly creeping up, his attention span, and listening skills weren’t where we wanted them to be. We wanted to be proactive and get him into a disciplined environment while also increasing his physical activity. We researched different Martial Arts Academy’s in the Fort Washington area and came across Fort Washington United. We initially called in January 2021 and spoke with Nicole. Within a week we decided to bring our son in for a trial class. The atmosphere and environment was very welcoming. The staff stopped what they were doing to invite us in, take us on a tour, and answer the zillion questions we had. Our son immediately fell in love with the class and was a participant 4-5 times a week in the evenings and on Saturday’s. Fast forward to the Spring and we were prompted with the decision to do the traditional Summer Camp for our son, or enroll him in the Summer Program offered at Fort Washington United. We are so glad we went with FWU. Our son (who turned 6 in May) has progressed immensely in the areas of reading, problem solving, communication, public speaking, water safety (swimming), and leadership. The lessons and principles instilled by the staff has turned our son into a responsible, respectful natural leader who can also throw a hell of a punch and follow with a roundhouse kick, but will also help an old lady across the street……..AWESOME STAFF! AWESOME MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM! Can’t say enough great things……wish I could give them 10 STARS!

Kisha DeSandies Lester: Earlier this spring, I was looking for a martial arts academy for my five year old son, who was about to start kindergarten. My husband and I wanted to help him get used to being about other kids, since he had been in quarantine for over a year with little to no other time to play with kids his age. We also wanted to instill confidence, respect and self-control and believe that mixed martial arts is a good way to achieve that. I had planned on starting our son in a program in the fall, but as I looked for summer camp programs, I discovered Fort Washington United (FWU). Initially, we wanted to make sure that our son could keep up with the summer program and the evening classes. The staff was great is working with us and our son to assess his ability and we were able to register him for 5-6 weeks of summer camp and the daily martial arts classes. Our son LOVES FWU! He enjoys the structure and working with the coaches and all of the moves that he learns each week. He also is making friends with the other students. Because our son doesn’t attend school nearby, we are not enrolled in the after school program, but we would if we could. Martial arts has given our son confidence and he’s excited to practice his moves at home to anyone who will watch! The summer camp was simply phenomenal! Our son loved the weekly themes, lessons and field trips they went on. The coaches taught the kids important values and taught them how to speak up, be respectful, be responsible, and be a good citizen of the academy. We also loved how the kids worked in teams, by age and presented their projects each week. We were blown away that our 5-year-old was doing PowerPoint presentations and building airplanes and coming up with business plans. There is also a wonderful education track during the summer camp week and after-school program to help keep your child learning at their grade level and beyond (if they are able to). This summer camp also prepared him for the social aspects of kindergarten (eating lunch, playing with others, transitions to different activities, keeping up with your personal items, etc.) I read a review about how this program may not be for younger kids. I would say that it would depend on the child. My son has thrived at FWU. He was one of the youngest kids in the summer program and he did great! He also is inspired and motivated by the older kids, and teens who help with the summer camp. I also think that a lot of our kids need to get a little real-world consequences for their actions when they don’t follow the rules. My son is motivated by that and the point system is an appropriate tool in the academy setting. He doesn’t like losing points because other kids on his team aren’t listening, so he tries to be a leader and example, which we like to see. Overall, I have and will continue to recommend FMU to parents. It’s a safe and nurturing place to have your kids. The staff (Steve, Nicole, Karen, Jason, Charles) are all upbeat and keep you informed on what’s going on. I love how Coaches Jason and Charles are with my son and all the kids. We love that Steve and Nicole are veterans and they have made the decision to pour into the lives of kids. Karen is always helpful, pleasant and supportive every time I see her. My husband and I have been really happy with the decision to enroll our son in this program.

Nat Geary: I've trained at UMAA since September 2018, and since then, my growth has been immense. If you're into challenging workouts, this place has you covered (I am down 40 lbs and keeping the weight off). If you're looking for fulfilling afterschool programs for children, this place is dedicated to both mental and physical success, with tutoring and homework support to go along with martial arts instruction. If you are interested in setting and achieving personal goals, I can personally attest that this gym has helped me reach new heights. I never saw myself winning a grappling tournament, but the coaches, staff, and teammates made that a reality. I cannot recommend this place enough . From ownership down to students, this place is all class. It is more than just a gym, it is a community hub.

Dawn Washington: I am the mom of a special needs child. I was very hesitant to put him in martial arts. I’m glad we did, best decision we ever made! Grappling and striking have boosted my sons self esteem. During summer camp, the group went on museum tours. Each week had a educational theme. They learned coding, finance principles and received points for each book they read over the summer. The points could be used for toys and games. Now that school has started, the focus is on homework. I worried the staff wouldn’t be one on one with my son for his studies so I didn’t bother sending his homework. Imagine my surprise when his teacher sent multiplication homework home and my son already knew it! He’d work with staff using Kahn academy. Great place, great staff!!!

Jazmin Simms: I highly recommend UMAA. My son Mason has attended the after school program for almost 2 years now and I could not be more thankful to the coaches and staff. Since attending, Mason has become a lot more confident, disciplined and an overall better student. The coaches and staff care a lot about the kids and always go the extra mile to help whether it’s with training or homework.

Steven Hoang: The United Martial Arts Academy has classes for the entire family! The classes are great for people of all ages that want to learn top rated self defense and get fit! The kids have a ton of fun during classes! I would recommend this gym to anyone again and again!

Charmicielle Goodine: This establishment does not know how to handle primary children. The punishment for a 5 year old should not be the same for a 12 year old. The point system that the children are on is very subjective. And thinking that a 5 year old should have the same responsibility as a 12 year is ridiculous. It is probably a great establishment for older students but not for younger children.

fairlane urbina: My son goes to UMAA to their after school program. The coach never misses a day to update us that my son got picked from school, in the van and when they’re in school. We celebrated my son’s 11th birthday at UMAA and the theme was Nerf Blast. The party was a “BLAST” all kids had a great time and the staffs did a “BLAST” job! I highly recommend this school. Not only they love what they do, but they care the well being of their students.

Jaquan Butler: United Martial Arts Academy is great environment to build a foundation for martial arts. With a diligent staff and wonderful community it is an excellent environment for learning, guaranteed to instill the calmness and confidence needed to succeed.

More Than Human LLC: what do users think?

Semir Abdul: Coach Anthony Rowland has a vision for his clients that shows through his tenacity and extraordinary effort. When I am taking his class I feel like I am fighting my demons and going above my limits. I can’t help but feel like I’ve grown 1% better by the end of his class. The pool of sweat I leave behind leaves me stronger and more confident! Coach Anthony will nudge you to go beyond your comfort zone and you will want to after you see what you are capable of. These are qualities in a trainer that will keep you accountable and help you transform into whoever or whatever you want to be. All while being able to defend yourself. Very humble soul and you can really feel the “human” in “more than human fit”. Thanks Coach!

Aramis Penland: Coach Anthony is amazing. He pushes you, motivates you, and the end result is one of the most intense, sweat filled workouts imaginable. I particularly like his kickboxing cardio classes, in which I not only learn new martial arts techniques but burn off all that dessert I probably shouldn't eat every day. The best workout class I have done in a long time. Highly recommend!

Lance Jackson: I am a long-time student of martial arts that has been training with Coach Anthony for 4 months or more. As a martial arts instructor, Anthony goes the extra mile to invest in his students progress and fitness. A month into my training, Anthony helped me organize a meal and exercise plan, in addition to my martial arts training. Since then, I have lost more than 35 pounds. I am also kicking harder, improving my footwork and ring mobility, as well as my ground game. Anthony does not tolerate complacency; he pushes his students to challenge themselves and grow within the arts.

Andrea Pippins: Anthony is an excellent trainer. He offers the perfect combination of inspiration, instruction, and fun. He will push you to do more than you thought was possible. He is able to work with people at any level of fitness from couch potato to fitness nut. You can tell this truly is his calling and passion. I would strongly recommend him to anyone trying to further strengthen their physical body and psyche. 5 stars.

Vicki Reyes Hernández: For the past 2 months, I've been conditioning and training for a 10k under Anthony's guidance. I've always been an exercise enthusiast but struggled to get the results I wanted. Anthony has helped give me structure to my workouts. He makes sure that I'm aware that every movement and exercise I do have a purpose. Since starting my program, I feel stronger and more disciplined. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and health and eager to share what he knows with his clients. What I value most about his teaching style is that he sees and treats me as a person first rather than just another client. He takes into account my life style, values, goals, and synthesizes that into an effective and enjoyable program. I think his clients- regardless of their health background and experience- all gain something from him and come out feeling empowered.

Satyam Bharadwaj: Coach is amazing! My lifestyle has changed (in a good way) because of Coach Anthony. I am now more focused while training (boxing) and I can not only see results but feel it as well! All thanks to Coach Anthony! He is the best!! I would recommend everyone to join classes with Coach Anthony and see the results on your own....

Fee: Anthony has been my personal trainer for about 3 months now. I have learned so much about my body and how far I can push myself with proper form. Anthony is my first trainer that has incorporated nutrition, boxing, kickboxing, weight training and cardio sessions and I’ve seen some great results! I’m stronger, fitter, and can kick some butt if I have to LOL. I’ve also loss about 10lbs and a lot of inches. Overall, Anthony’s passion for what he does really pushes me and he never lets me quit! I’m grateful for his expertise and motivation.
Response: It was a pleasure having you as my student/friend whilst you were here. I hope where you are now you are continuing your physical fitness and that you are happy! Stay great!

Samer Elchahabi: I have been training with Anthony for over two years. He switched gyms and I ended up following him because he delivers quality instructions in Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu, MMA, and wrestling. It is rare in DC to find someone with all those skills. He is great at pushing you, focusing on the details and technicalities and he will make you sweat during the workout. He's got a great attitude with a dorky side and focuses on self-defense empowerment, particularly toward women.

Ponciano Q. Manalo: I had been in training for over a decade but needed to take a couple of years off. Coach Anthony game highly recommended from a former training partner and his recommendation was spot on. As an experienced martial artist (but somewhat out of practice) Coach Anthony was able to knock the rust off my game and build upon the foundations i already have. I still have a long way to go, but rest assured I am in good hands with him.

Jane Kelly: I have only been fortunate enough to take two (back to back) boxing classes with Anthony so far, but he was an incredible instructor. My skill and general fitness level were far below other class members, but he made sure that every exercise was a challenge I could overcome. I never felt defeated because an exercise was simply too difficult to complete properly, and I never felt discouraged or talked down to when I was given an alternative. I came in nervous, knowing nothing about boxing, and in two hours Anthony led me to breakthrough after breakthrough- I’m certainly no expert now, but i’m distinctly better than when I started. I can’t speak to his individual training, but the class environment was wonderful. Everyone knew each other and there was a lot of teasing, but everyone was really nice too. Students who were more experienced than me helped correct my movements and gave me advice. I felt really welcomed, and I hope to go back before I leave town!
Response: Thank you so much! We hope you come back before you leave!

Pentagon Mixed Martial Arts: what do users think?

Michael “Newmie” Newman: Fantastic facilities, welcoming owners & staff, excellent initiative and follow up from highly-qualified & patient trainers. My son & i both excel (soar!) at every professionally-designed training session and class at Pentagon MMA. Teddy is my regular trainer, consistently showing up to push me, break me, lift me when my own efforts are lacking. Sifting out the weak vibes with slick music, his enabling fortitude is the exact coaching you will benefit from as well. Trust this reborn, remade 55 yr old “dad with gray hair and missing memory” — the place to find your fit self again is right here at Pentagon MMA. #[As known well, the discipline must come from within YOU. For this gym and the facilities, along with the experienced staff, and your committed presence combined is THE ONE *CATALYST* YOU need to patiently push yourself to find again once-held that holistic belief in yourself… and achieve grand, new fitness goals. Results guaranteed!]
Response: Michael, thank you so much for your kind words. Thank you for entrusting us with your family’s martial arts journey!

David Ebb: This place is simply a cut above the rest! The workouts are well thought out and crazy fun! Class sizes aren't too big. You go at your own pace and skill level so it's never intimidating. You can always turn it up if need be and the coaches are right there to encouraged and push you through. The environment is very clean, friendly and inviting, you feel like family. It starts with the owners, they're fantastic! They bring a highly trained staff, professionalism and a kids program that's unmatched. I would highly recommend.
Response: Thank you David! We are grateful for your trust and for sticking with us since our very early days.

Joshua Ogboenyiya: I have been a member at pentagon for about 3 years now and I can’t think of a better gym to train at. All the coaches take their time explaining the different techniques, and they really have an attention for detail. I can tell this is more than fitness and being in shape. Everyone at pentagon truly wants students to grow and improve as martial artists. Everyone is warm and inviting and you can immediately get the feeling of a community among the student, coaches, and staff. I would recommend training at pentagon to anyone who has thought about joining a gym but hasn’t taken the leap yet – you won’t regret it.
Response: Joshua, thank you for your kind words and for entrusting us with your martial arts journey. We appreciate you!

Morgan Boswell (TheCalixte): I started doing MMA at 16 and have trained at a few different gyms. I have NEVER had the type of coaching and teammates anywhere else. The coaches at Pentagon truly care about each and every person and make it a comfortable environment for beginners through advanced. I have NEVER felt better about my body, mind, and ability then before- going on a year now and planning on many, many more! Whether you're looking to get in shape, fight, train, make friends, find a family, this gym has it all!! I love Pentagon!!!
Response: Morgan, we are grateful for you and the opportunity you gave us to work with you towards your martial arts goals. Our team will be so happy to read this review!

B: Thoroughly enjoyed my time at PMMA over the course of 3-4 years. Was a great way to keep in shape while learning self defense arts. Also a great way to keep yourself humble while sparring against other focused driven individuals. Can’t recommend enough. Coaching staff was also excellent abs they kept the place clean and tidy.
Response: Hey B, thanks so much for your kind words!

Carl Weis: After looking at several MMA gyms in the area, I decided to give Pentagon MMA a try. Their involvement in the community and kids programs are what appealed to me at first, because I was looking for a place that my 4 year old could attend, but it was everything else about this gym that convinced me to start training there as well. This place is awesome! The staff, instructors, and students are very professional, friendly, and welcoming. I have seen so much improvement with my son and his behavior after going here, and I have seen huge improvement in my training as well. I cannot say enough good things about this gym. If you are looking to get into martial arts, Muay Thai, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, or any of their other programs you owe it to yourself to try it out. I promise you won’t regret it. You will get into the best shape of your life, and will be part of a family that encourages you to be your best self inside and outside of the gym. You will make friends and above all you will build habits that last. Thank you for everything that you do. I’m proud to represent Pentagon MMA and recommend it to everyone I know.
Response: Carl, we are beyond grateful for your kind words and feedback. Thank you for trusting us with your family’s martial arts journey and for putting in the work to get a little better, each and every day. We will keep working hard to bring you the best service we can!

Eleanor D: I came to Pentagon MMA after trying a few other martial arts gyms in the area and immediately liked the atmosphere, the classes, and the people. The trial program was awesome, and I signed up to start the second I finished it. While I love the Muay Thai classes, and how they push you outside your comfort zone and work every part of your body, the best thing about this place is the community they have cultivated. There’s no better place to train!
Response: Hi Eleanor, thank you so much for making our day with your kind words, and for reminding us why we do what we do every day. We appreciate you and will keep working hard to help you reach your goals!

Olivia Holmes: An amazing gym in so many ways. I highly highly recommend all programs here and specifically the jiu jitsu program; especially if you're a woman, it's just such a great group of strong and supportive women out on the mats. The instructors are the highest quality and really make it a priority to make everyone feel welcome, safe, and to create a challenging and fun learning environment. Definitely recommend if you're looking to get into any kind of martial arts!! Keep up the great work Pentagon!!
Response: Thanks so much Olivia! We appreciate your trust and look forward to helping you reach your goals.

Celine Ferguson: This gym is amazing! The staff is friendly, professional, and incredible at what they do. They’ve made me feel welcome since day one and really do their best to make sure you understand the technique & train hard. In just a few months I’ve learned so much and still feel physically challenged every time I walk in. I highly recommend pentagon MMA.
Response: Celine, thanks so much for your feedback and kind words! We are thankful for you and will keep working hard to help you achieve your goals.

Nicholas Hunter: I started at Pentagon MMA when I was only 11 years old in the young warriors program. Ever since I started the instructors there focused on teaching not only martial arts but discipline and respect too. They made sure to push everyone in the class and to make sure they learned not only martial arts but life lessons as well. I am now 18 and still attend classes at pentagon MMA however, now they are the adult classes. The instructors make the classes a lot of fun for everyone while also pushing us to become better. The environment at pentagon MMA is one of the best things about the gym. Everyone is so nice and always willing to help, it’s just one big friend group where everyone has fun.
Response: Nicholas, it has been an honor watching you grow in your martial arts journey. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!

THE LITTLEGIANT MUAY THAI: what do users think?

Sandy Remiens: In 2004 a friend and I started doing sausage sizzles for 2 years to raise enough money for our first training trip to Thailand. It was absolutely worth giving up all those weekends and in 2006 we finally made it to Thailand. I returned every year to train with Chon for 6 weeks of the year till moving to Thailand to live in 2010 and continued to follow him wherever he taught. I learnt more from Chon in the time I had with him as my Trainer than all the previous years training Muay Thai. Chon has the ability to bring out the best in a person and their training - his committment to his students is incredible and his integrity in his business is outstanding. I will forever be grateful for Chon's training and expertise and I have the utmost respect for him as an individual and business person. Forever grateful Tanachon Yingwitayakun 🙏

Antonio Arnold: I, like many others, first met kru Chon while training and competing in Thailand. At the time, Chon had his gym KC Muay Thai in Chiang Mai, and right from the beginning it was one of the most welcoming experiences I've had abroad. It was my first time in that part of the country and Chon went out of his way to make sure that my then girlfriend and I had everything we needed. He also made sure that we had a great cultural experience in addition to the high quality training. On Saturdays, for example, we would go for hard runs near beautiful places like wat phra that Doi Suthep and wat phra Doi Kham (pictured) - which I feel speaks to Chon's generosity and character. If you're looking to learn authentic Muay Thai, there is no better source then from someone who has garnered their knowledge through experience and lived the life in the homeland of the sport. What helps distinguish Chon from many other Thai trainers however, is his ability to communicate. Chon's perfect english allows to him convey the subtleties and nuances of the sport which are often lost in translation. The things I learned from Chon served me well in many fights and now, as a coach myself, I have been passing this knowledge onto others. The best gym is the one you'll go to most often, and between Chon's technical expertise and friendly demeanor, I have no doubts that once you try The LittleGiant MuayThai, you'll want to keep going back for more.

Alex Allen: An amazing Muay Thai trainer with hundreds of fights under his belt. Whether you're wanting to become a fighter or just want to train for fitness this is a great place to learn. He's very passionate about teaching effective techniques for competition or strength & fitness 🥊

Natalie Wong: Hands down the best authentic Muay Thai gym in the area! Kru Chon is a multiple Thai national champion and is the best coach you could ask for, whether you are looking to just get in shape or want to compete. He cares about all the students and you can tell he absolutely loves Muay Thai. Nate and Kru Chon have done a great job to keep a positive, motivating, and friendly environment for new and experienced students to learn Muay Thai and what it means to be a true Nak muay. Kru Chon has coached me through multiple fight camps and I always feel prepared and ready to fight! I recommend this to anyone looking to learn about how to become a better version of themselves, mentally and physically.

Victor Vuong: Little Giant Muay Thai is an excellent gym to train at if you're looking for authentic (including clinch) Muay Thai training! I have been training at LGMT since it opened and have really loved my time here. Kru Chon is extremely knowledgeable and can help you deepen your knowledge/skills, whether you're completely new to the sport or have previous training experience. Kru Chon and Nate have also done a great job to make the gym friendly to people of all training levels (from those looking for a workout to those looking to compete). Would highly recommend LittleGiant Muay Thai to anyone looking to train in the sport or just looking to become more active!

Lawrence Smith: I’ve trained at quite a few Muay Thai gyms around the US. Little Giant is among the best there is. Kru Chon is a wealth of knowledge, with more expertise and experience than most gyms will ever have. I highly recommend The Little Giant Muay Thai for beginners, novices, or professional fighters.

Phil Clark: This is an amazing, intimate school with an incredible heritage in the sport of Muay Thai! I have had the privilege of calling Kru Chon a trainer, coach, and my friend since 2015. His dedication to teaching his craft, combined with his infectious positivity, makes for one of the most special training experiences you will ever have! Come to WORK- this is legit Thai-style training that gets RESULTS, both in the body, the mind, and the ring!

Sarah Vella: I’ve trained Muay Thai for 3 years prior to coming to LGMT from another Muay Thai gym. I have now been here for 3 months, and I love it here! The gym atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and what I consider to be ‘female friendly’ as not only do I feel comfortable here as a female, but they also don’t try and impose a dress code on us just because we’re female. Kru Chon is an amazing teacher, who has lots of patience, and keeps making corrections until we get each technique right. As I have ADHD, this type of teaching style is exactly what I need to finally learn the techniques correctly. In just 3 months I feel that my technique has already improved so much. The small class sizes allow for Kru Chon to give more individualized attention, not to mention the convenience of having a wide range of class times, and they are open 7 days a week, so I can easily fit my training into my busy work schedule. My goal is to fight competitively one day, and I have full confidence that LGMT will get me to that level. I highly recommend LGMT regardless of your Muay Thai goals, whether you are already a pro fighter who seeks the guidance and support of a 2x national champion, a novice fighter like me, or, you just want to try out Muay Thai as a fun way to improve your fitness.

Samthologies21: If you’re looking for a serious gym that has an extremely friendly and positive vibe, this is it. Our kids have been training here for two months now and they love it. We have a kid in each class: Tiny Giants, Young Giants, and Teen Giants. Every single class, Kru Chon and Coach Nate both bring the same experience, consistency and enthusiasm. They have the kids work on conditioning their bodies as well as work on technique. The difference in their strength and stamina has been incredible. I love how my kids are getting stronger and healthier as well as learning a practical life skill. I also love how the kids are still having fun in class, playing games while also practicing good manners and sportsmanship. I couldn’t recommend this gym more. There are adult classes offered throughout the entire week. Many professional fighters train here as well. So if you’re looking for yourself to compete or get healthier and stronger, or for your kids, this place fits all your needs.

J Brown: This probably the most authentic Muay Thai establishment in Northern Virginia!Kru Chon is extremely patient, and genuine. He takes his time, and always has knowledge to give. 10/10 hands down the best Muay Thai gym I've been to! If you want to get fit or get into actual fighting, then this is the gym for you!

District Martial Arts | MMA Gym: what do users think?

Jakob: Overall a great gym to train at. It's in a convenient location and offers a variety of disciplines, so you definitely get your money's worth. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming to all. I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get involved in martial arts.
Response: Thank you Jakob!

Celeste Gee: Great gym, location, and staff! As a newcomer to Muay Thai, and Boxing I was super nervous to sign up for a class, but the coaches were so welcoming and helpful in teaching me the correct form and techniques, especially as a left-hander! The class was so exhilarating, fun, and full of energy that I didn't even realize an hour passed until the class was over. I love when you can get a total body workout without feeling the monotony and boredom of going to the gym. I would definitely recommend this to friends in the area and anyone interested in learning about any of the martial arts styles they offer. Thank you District Martial Arts!
Response: Thank you Celeste!

Tiana Bsnjk: Honestly a pretty fantastic place. No matter what level you are, the instructors work to accommodate you. Beginner? No problem. Someone from DMA will 100% work with you to get you up to speed on technique and style. They're also incredibly warm and welcoming, friendly, and reassuring. You won't feel out of place here - definitely recommend DMA out of any other place in the area if you're serious about self defense. They'll make sure you're trained properly!

Drew Ehlers: Positive: ProfessionalismThe classes that I attended at District were great! BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai- all professionally coached, and the group of men that I trained with were exceptional. Trainers and Participants all were very helpful in making sure everyone was progressing.
Response: Thank you Drew!

Rachel Wang: The community at DMA was incredibly welcoming even for beginners -- people remembered my name and gave me helpful tips from the very first class I attended. Not only do they have boxing and muay thai classes, they also have weekly yoga, which I really appreciated. Definitely recommend checking out this community, even if you’re a beginner like me!
Response: Thank you Rachel!

V M: Its a great gym to train a variety of martial art disciplines: bjj, boxing, muay thai, judo, wrestling, etc. The classes are offered throughout the day and on the weekends. The instructors are very knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone who wants to train martial arts or is just looking to get in shape.
Response: Thank you V M! Great having you at DMA!

Gerald Bryant: Pros: The gym offers a good variety of martial arts with instructors that are very knowledgeable and lead great classes.Cons: Gym is smaller so make sure to schedule classes enough ahead of time to ensure a slot in the class.

Andrew Turner: My girlfriend and I attended a free trial class the other day. At first we were both nervous and confused, but this was partly because we showed up late and without signing our waivers yet. When we jumped in we felt a bit out of place, but that changed quickly. I have a small amount of experience but my girlfriend has next to none but we both found the MMA class to be accommodating (especially with the kind and patient instructor). Overall, a wonderful environment with quality equipment, great people, and excellent instruction.
Response: Hi Andrew, It was a pleasure to have you and your girlfriend at our school. Thank you for coming!

Laura Gross: Positive: QualityI really enjoy my classes at this gym, everyone is so welcoming. For a new person just getting into martial arts all my instructors were super supportive and provided clear direction. Whether you are looking to change up your workouts or learn a new skill I would highly recommend giving this gym a try.
Response: Thank you Laura!

Gori Olufon: I go to District Martial Arts for Brazilian Juijitsu, BJJ and it is excellent. The coaches are knowledgeable and encouraging and the facility is beautiful. I’m really looking forward to the new Judo class! Here’s to another amazing year!
Response: Thank you Gori! It’s a pleasure to have you part of the DMA community.

Lloyd Irvin's Mixed Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?

Will O.: 10/10 recommend to anyone and everyone of any age, shape, size. I stepped in for the first time around Nov 2017 and knew it was the place for me to be. The atmosphere of excellence is present whether you go train in the morning or evening; you’ll always see pros and world champions training. It’s a very welcoming place for people who just want to go in and lose weight, the elderly, even people who never threw one punch in their life. Master Donnie, Master Lloyd, Coach Jamal I’ve always been able to reach out and talk with them after classes. I’ve become more overall healthy since coming here, built better habits, I’ve learned self confidence here, the power of positive self affirmation, and much more. Big thanks to this amazing team.

Todd Margolis: I love this gym!! I've been coming to this gym since 1998. It's always felt like home to me. If I want a hard push, I get it. Just drilling and technique, I get it. They work with my injuries and training schedules as my life has changed over 22 years. Now I take my kids and my nephews to visit with me and they get the same fantastic treatment. If you're looking for a home, look here first. It's a family first gym that just happens to produce a lot of world champions too!! And neither the family environment or world champion development happened by accident. It is the brain child of one of the smartest, hard working and devoted people I've ever met - Master Lloyd Irvin. See you on the mat!!

Scott Cook: Lloyd Irvin MMA is amazing! Not only does the academy put out some of the best BJJ & MMA fighters in the world, it’s wonderfully structured for beginners and children as well. Friendly and welcoming environment where you’ll feel like family from day one. The instructors are top notch, you get to learn from champions. Even if competition isn’t something that interests you, knowing that the instructors are teaching you moves that work on the highest level gives confidence that you’re learning stuff that really works! No matter your goals, whether it’s to lose weight and get in better shape, build confidence and self-esteem, be in a goal oriented and positive environment, learn something new and make friends, fill a competitive void or you want to have a child that is happy, confident and has the tools to protect themselves against bullies... LLOYD IRVIN MMA IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

SkyHy Consultants LLC: Best Bjj /mma gym in the state(Maryland) with a super kids program and an awesome adult program as well. And the cool thing about it is you learn with some of the best Bjj team in the world .

MOM BOSS: We come from Texas when it’s training camp time. Everyone is very welcoming. Very professional. Great facility. They have a great kids program that I can’t wait to enroll my little one soon when he’s old enough! Coach’s are all amazing! And they have a handful of CHAMPION level fighters that come out of team Lloyd Irving! So wether you are a beginner wanting to see what MMA is about or goal is to compete I highly recommend this place!

Rhiannon Odom: Lloyd Irvin’s gym is hands down the best jiu jitsu training in the DMV. I’ve hopped around a few different gyms before getting the invite to Lloyd’s gym and there’s no comparison. He takes ALL of his athletes goals seriously and puts everything into his students, even if he is out of town to coach and support his UFC fighters, he is checking in on us and letting us know what we should be working on in his absence. He pushes his athletes to reach their full potential mentally and physically. The environment is very clean, safe, and respectful. I’m glad I’ve found my gym home and I wouldn’t recommend any other gym for jiu jitsu training.

Keith Gibson: Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy(LIMMA) has been my martial arts home for over nine years. As a police officer it is important that I stay fit and current in the latest style of mixed martial arts. Because of the training I have received at LIMMA I have been able to safely deescalate several situations without having to use lethal force. My son has been training with Lloyd Irvin since he was three years old. He's now 12 and continues to train. The staff is very knowledgeable and they work hard to create a family friendly environment. The skills he has learned at LIMMA have given him the confidence to defend himself in any situation. I am so impressed with LIMMA that I will be enrolling my daughter so that she will also be able to protect herself and have that same confidence. If you are looking for a mixed martial arts academy, I would strongly recommend that you consider Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts Academy, you won’t be disappointed.

T J: Just do your research before going there. It’s false advertisement all the way around. They don’t even have a locker room, to change in. Just one small 10x10 room w/ 20+ other ppl changing into their fighting attire. They false advertise the price that was online. It won’t be the same once you go in there and talk to them about signing up. They’re never on time mostly late. Honestly that’s why i never came back since the first free class. In Muay Thai class we had to put our bag in the stairwell. Luckily no one stole my belongings. That’s another why I was confuse, when people speak highly about how you train so many pro ufc fighters & etc. and Then you see the gym smdh, it’s like they’re tryna cram so many mix martial arts in that small building. You charge so much for fighters to be in that gym weak a** gym but yet you give nothing in return to your fighters, the people that putting money in there, the payments that keeps that place running. That’s just not good business. Y’all need to do better in managing that company.

Jim K: The most successful Jiu Jitsu school run by an American. Top notch coaching and instruction that produces WORLD CHAMPIONS at every age level and every belt level. World champion kids. World champion adults. White belt through black belt. Highly structured, world class kids program. These kids are not only learning self defense, they’re learning life skills and building good habits that give them a competitive edge in school and the workplace. Lots of kids in the kids program at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy have not only won championships but have excelled in the classroom. Lots of kids have gone to college and thrived, and have moved forward to become upstanding citizens of their communities. Many of the kids are now giving back, teaching other kids how to be champions on and off the mat. Talk about building strong families and helping the community! It doesn’t get better than that! And sure, the competitors win. The kids win, the adult competitors win. But there is more to this program than just competing and winning. So many kids and adults that have made the smart decision to train at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy have achieved personal goals, like: — Shed unwanted body fat — Become more confident — Learn how to defend oneself in a fight — Do better in school — Perform better at work — Improve focus — Feel safer on the streets — Make new friends — Be part of a successful TEAM — And so much more... The list of benefits you could receive from joining a school like this can go on and on, so the best advice I could give is to call the school immediately and get started NOW. I love this place and always will and I am confident you will too.

Nikki Jackson: I have been at Lloyd Irvin Mixed Martial Arts with my son since he was 3 years old (he's 8 now). I have thoroughly enjoyed the instruction and discipline that has been taught to him. I've liked it so much so that I began talking classes myself over a year ago. Since taking classes, I've lost a tremendous amount of weight and improved my overall health and fitness level. LIMMA is more than a gym, it is a family oriented establishment with a circle of people that will motivate and support you in achieving your goals.

Capital MMA & Elite Fitness | Alexandria, VA: what do users think?

DJ Sharpe: Used Capital MMA for personal training. Owner was very nice, gym setups are good. But the trainer I worked with was unprofessional. Made a lot of random inappropriate comments, put downs, lot of last minute cancellations, would train a 2nd class while trying to train together, bring his 3 young children during training which is dangerous when they run around unsupervised.

Abe Mousavi: This place's greatest strength is its culture. Culture is defined by behaviors a group champions balanced against those which they refuse to tolerate. The culture of Capital MMA is one of intense: training, support, accountability, and community. Everyone's training goals are honored and respected; from the word champion fighters to the person who just wants to break a sweat in a unique and fun way. The best part about the culture of Capital MMA is that it weeds out the people who don't resonate with it. Sometimes they go quietly, sometimes they go loudly with as many excuses as classes or private lessons they missed. Either way, they go and the rest of us remain better for the experience. Come see it for yourself!

Jeremy Flores: Been coming to Capital for BJJ for over 10 years when it rented upstairs space in Jungle's Gym (now Onelife Fitness near USPTO) and it has now grown to 7 locations in the DMV area. And it's pay at one location play at all; while centered around BJJ, that is not all they offer. Come to the Alexandria location for CrossFit, BJJ or Muay Thai, and you can go to Lorton for its Steel Mace or Ruck Fit class. Work in the city? You can go to DC H St for lunch and get in some BJJ. Takoma has boxing, judo and a women's only BJJ class. Loudon also has a women's only BJJ class and a KidsFit program. MMA is also offered at most locations for those aspiring world beaters. This is not an exhaustive list of all the locations or all the programs they offer. Capital is truly Elite Fitness! I take advantage of the unlimited class plan since I started taking my kids to the kid's BJJ program. And the schedule works out so I can take CrossFit at the same time. I also do the occasional yoga and Muay Thai class to round out my fitness routine. Even if the class schedule doesn't work for you, it is open most hours of the waking day, 6 days a week, for open mat/gym time. Just know scheduled classes get priority to mats and equipment. Very cost-effective if you can make it work. If you ever need to adjust your membership, due to sickness, extended out of town travel, etc., management is very responsive and will work with you. I haven't always taken so many classes during my time at Capital, because you know, life. All the programs are very welcoming and the instructors make you feel part of the Capital family. Its BJJ lineage is under the legendary Royce Gracie who dominated the early UFC tournaments and the Gracie family made BJJ and MMA what it is today. The founder and head instructor of Capital is the first practitioner in Virginia to get his black belt from Royce with all the others also a part of Capital. That said, Gracie BJJ wants to teach you how to defend yourself in real life situations, so self defense is a fundamental part of the curriculum. Muay Thai coaches are fighters themselves and while the techniques are workouts in and of itself, their goal is to show how it works in real situations. Joined CrossFit recently (even though they have offered this for years and during that time I thought CrossFit workouts were crazy and I could never do that! Even my sister is a certified CrossFit instructor! But she lives in another state.) and am mad I didn't take it earlier since it makes me better at BJJ. The certified coaches are very responsive as they will help you scale to your fitness level and cheer you along for motivation, even the other members will help and cheer, too. Coaches there can also help with nutrition and lifestyle goals. While each program does their own thing, there is no issue in jumping from one to another or dabble in them all like I do. There is also the Capital Cares program which gives back to the community with scholarships and donations to worthy causes. So it's not just a gym that takes your money and teaches you classes, they use some of that to give back to help empower the community all while inspiring the community to give back themselves. All in all I am glad I am part of Capital so you should give it a try if you have any type of fitness goals. They have membership plans for the occasional user to the "I'm cranky if I haven't worked out today" gym rat. Either way, Capital will help you build a better version of yourself. Oh! And there are locker rooms with showers to boot!

Mindy Tang: Joining Capital MMA last summer has shown itself time and time again to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in the last year. It has fostered such structure and motivation in my life to continue my pursuit of learning through Muay Thai and BJJ, while my coaches also teach drive and dedication through not only their words but their actions. I have made friends that push me to be the best version of myself every single time I step on the mats. My coach has provided me with advice and strength training on his own time, with the pure intent to see me get stronger and perform better. I’m continually shocked and grateful that so many in this community are so giving with their time and knowledge (especially its leaders, coaches, and owners) and treat this not as a business relationship but one of true mentorship in every sense of the word. I’m thankful and lucky to have joined this gym and have only had exceedingly positive experiences on the mats.

John Cosgrove: My kids and I have trained at Alex and Lorton locations for almost 10 years. Great training, family environment, even my mom loves being there to watch her grandkids roll. If you're an adult that wants good training, come here. If you want your kids to learn to defend themselves, come here.

Shonna Perkins: My wife and I decided to try this locations cross fit class and were disappointed with the flow. Being both familiar with Solidierfit and my wife being a pass member of Title Boxing we were dishearted with the lack a organization in the class this morning. Not given the plan for day's workout prior to starting, the trainer would demostrate to the class how to preform the desired exercise when NOT modifited, but would only show the modifed version once everyone else completed the exercise then move on to the next session without any direction and leaving those trying to complete the modifed exercise.

Josef Puechner: Love the place, I focus on Crossfit and the community and support from the coaches and management is awesome!

Alfredo Elias: I personally love this place, I feel like everybody is friendly, and can help you reach your goal or help you with whatever journey you are on.

Hyun Kwak: Been a member for many years. An MMA gym is not so scary as one may think. At least at the gym, everyone is trying to help others out. the environment is very friendly and family like. Self defense is also taught, and some fun events are held from time to time.
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! Its been awesome having you as part of our community for so many years and hopefully a lot more to come!

Cageside Mma: Wow, where do you begin? AMAZING instructors!! Beautiful, clean facility. This place is outstanding! I highly recommend!

Kaizen MMA Falls Church: what do users think?

Kotb Gawwad: The best place in DMV for training, all staff are professional and experts, doesn’t matter your skills level they got you beginner, advanced or pro.LFA champ form kaizenRock combate sports from kaizen

Kavin Raj: Kaizen is one of the best places to learn and practice MMA. Its got a great team of coaches and professionals who are more than welcoming with Sensei Nima at the helm. You'll find people from all walks of life here along with pro fighters. They've got a couple other locations and they are equally good. Look no further if you wanna sign up.

matt lamb: Kaizen MMA is a fantastic gym with extremely friendly, knowledgable, and supportive coaches and trainers. Whether you want you get in shape, improve technique, or compete in martial arts events, you will not find a better gym anywhere in this area. I feel very fortunate to have found Kaizen MMA.

Brandon Paguandas: I will be here for the rest of my life.🥋Sensei Nima is a father to many and I am truly blessed to be considered family.

John Thurwachter: Kaizen has the best coaches, great facilities and locations. The coaches are super patient and helpful.

Mariano Jones: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueBest place to train mma, muay thai and bjj in the dmv area. The coaches are very knowledgeable and are always there to help you improve as a martial artist. If you are looking to get in shape or train martial arts Kaizen MMA needs to be on your list.

Fleur Wayman: Kaizen is a great place to train! ♡ I switched to kaizen from a more traditional jiujitsu school to learn in a different environment. My knowledge has really increased, and I couldn't feel more welcome. Grappling at kaizen is so much fun, and after a few months I even started Muay Thai. While bjj is the focus for me, the Muay Thai coaches are phenomenal. With multiple pro fighters and really experienced coaches to learn from, whether you're looking to just gain a new skill or be competitive, you'll definitely have no shortage of inspiration and resource here. The Jiu-Jitsu Coaches are just as experienced, and because of that they have no issues tailoring their teaching to your skill level. Also, with multiple locations, there's plenty of coaches who all have something unique to offer. Kaizen is definitely my family for me. I've had anxiety while training in the past for different reasons, but being at kaizen I've become more motivated, more skilled, and and it's literally the best part of my every day.

XNOMO: Trying out new gyms is always a hit or miss these days especially in the current MMA era so I didn't know what to expect when I walked into Kaizen MMA It ended up being a very pleasant experience. The training was great, the instruction was high level but most important they were all very humble. You can be sure to get a variety of training partners and have a great workout / training session. A++

Aaron Liang: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueKaizen has been a staple for various martial arts in the northern Virginia area for years. They have professional coaches and fighters who can teach you the ins and outs.

Sam Farid: I've been to many professional MMA gyms around the nation, and every gym has their own respective strengths and specialties. I've been competing in MMA for 4 years and it's safe to say that, hands down, Kaizen has become the home that I was always in search of. From friendly and caring staff to courteous and helpful teammates, my career has skyrocketed since joining and I recommend anyone reading this review to give Kaizen a try!

College Park Mixed Martial Arts: what do users think?

Kofi Adease: Joshua Peters - School Owner, has created and fostered an incredible learning and culture here at CPMMA! Coach Josh is one of the most technically sound instructors in the area! He has a gift for communicating steps in technique clearly while guiding students to execute with pinpoint precision. The gym environment is very minimalistic but cozy most important CLEAN! The Tuition Fees can fit ANY Budget. This school has transformed causal onlookers into amazing competitors in both Muay Thai and BJJ! It's even has professional MMA Fighters in its stable. It's even welcome folks like me who've been trying to return to train more regularly. Man, Woman, Child it doesn't matter here. The intimidation wears off immediately the minute Coach Josh welcomes you at the door. This place is just simply INCREDIBLE! I can't say enough about it. If you're looking a Dynamic, Challenging, Accessible Martial Arts Experience to take your journey to the next level or even to begin your journey. Then look no further than College Park Mixed Martial Arts! Believe me now, thank me later! I'm looking forward to seeing you soon!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Nicholas Robison: The owner, Josh Peters, has been a training partner and a friend for more than 15 years. If you want to learn to protect yourself there's no better person to learn from. If you'd like to compete Josh can push you to your absolute limit. If you just want a fun workout he can help you get in shape. There are classes for everyone here. I highly recommend it.
Response: Thanks so much for the great review brother! Let's go rule the world

Yemi: This is one of the best mma gyms in the DMV. Josh has a good system in place. The environment is great. Few, if any, egos. Just people who want to train and get better Highly recommend this place
Response: Thanks for the great review brother!!!

Coleman McFarland: I come to train at this place as often as I can! It's worth the 45min drive from my house not just because of the people, but because the way Josh teaches seems to click with me immediately whether it's striking or grappling. Man's a Rolodex of Martial Arts. Love this place forever, Josh if you're reading this, thank you!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Christine Jacobsen: I'm from out of town (Colorado) for an extended stay and these guys welcomed me with open arms. I got great work in and felt completely at home. The members that I met are clearly dedicated training partners and the owner is skilled and great to train with!!! Highly recommend!
Response: Thank you so much for the kind words! I look forward to training with you again while you are in town!

Paul Dynan: They have a great kids program, and the instructor does a phenomenal job of bringing the best out in them. Our two kids, 8 and 13, have been going for a while, and it's the only sports activity they've been able to get into. As well, it has really made them stronger (inside and out). We had tried Karate, etc, and it took having an active, hands-on, full (very safe) contact experience to get them excited and feel like they are learning something. The 13yr old actually does both child and adult classes now, and everyone makes it extremely welcoming and safe for him.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review. I hope everyone is doing well

Melody Hsieh: Great place to train and practice martial art ! Everyone is super welcoming and respectful. Great instructors and good for all ages and skill levels. More experienced students are willing to help you out during the class and open mat.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review Melody!

M Richmond: Really great gym and instructor. Very knowledgable. Thanks coach!
Response: Thank you so much for the great review!

Peter Humulock: Josh is an amazing guy. He was also a teacher so he knows how to break things down really well. The place feels comfortable but they push you real hard. 10/10 would do again
Response: Thank you so much for the great review! Hope you swing by again soon

Matt Bichay: Very fun group of guys and gals. Everyone welcomes you regardless of background. Little whining, tons of learning, and tons of rolling. Also, very wrestler friendly. Tons of classes and open mats with people of all experience levels.
Response: Thank you so much for the great review. I can't believe it's been so long already.

Level Up Boxing & Fitness: what do users think?

Marc Adona: The service at Level up boxing is extremely terrible. I called to have my son's account closed due to school. The gentlemen that answered the phone told me that I could pause the account instead of closing it and the manager would reach out to me to see if I was still interested in a couple months. That's not what happened afterwards. Not only did I get charged for the month, they charged me twice. Which I had to call several times in order for them to fix the problem. After that I was billed every month. Remind you, my account was supposed to be in pause status, yet I was billed for service. Every month I had to call to have them reverse the charge. It's completely ridiculous. I was billed June 6th and once again, I called to have them reverse my charge. A woman picked up the phone and told me it would be fixed. I called today, the woman I spoke to earlier in the week answered the phone and placed me on hold, and never came back. I called them back and the phone went immediately to voicemail. They refuse to deal with the situation. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Every employee gives you a different answer regarding how things operate. No one has a concept of what they're doing and professionalism is nowhere to be found. You should know your customers accounts and what status they're in. I shouldn't have to call every month to have you fix a charge. If you're billing me every month when exactly is my account in pause? Who is doing the billing? Apparently they don't know what they're doing and shouldn't be handling it. It takes no time to issue a refund. It is not that complicated to do. I shouldn't have to call you several times in order for this transaction to be fixed. I've never been more frustrated with a company than I am with Level up boxing. But I guess this is what happens when you have a boxer running a business that requires professionalism and logic. Don't waste your time going to this gym. The people operating this business are unprofessional. You can find a better gym that has better customer service and knows how to communicate with their clientele.
Response: Marc, I’m sorry about your experience. As per membership agreement, a Cancellation Form must be completed and submitted in person. Unfortunately, hold requests and cancellations can not be made over the phone just like any other gym membership. Please stop by the front desk during business hours to complete the Cancellation Form as per membership agreement. Every member is treated with professionalism and I apologize for not personally reading the contract agreement page to you that you signed to clearly explain the terms of the gym membership.

Winston Foster: Very fun and people friendly, they actually care. Tones of different kinds of people with different fitness levels and even stuff for kids. The classes are definitely worth the $ you pay and the coaches will help motivate you to help reach your goals. Fun time.

Gary Connell: I love coming every Tuesday and Thursday to not only blow off some steam but just to interact with everybody which is a very friendly environment
Response: Thank you, Gary!!!

Bryan Hatcher: The training itself was fun and very thorough but the guy they have working the front desk is very unprofessional. I would not recommend or reuse their services
Response: Hi Bryan, I am sorry you had a negative experience. We hope that you visit us again so we can do better and show some of the changes we have made to improve the front desk customer experience.

Rashim Gray: ...I had the pleasure of attending their Spar Wars...what an awesome time had in a fun and safe atmosphere...
Response: Thank you for coming, Rashim!

Yasemin Jamison: What's been more important to me in my many years of doing Martial Arts has always been the people more so then the facility. The people I train with and the people who instruct me. At Level Up Boxing and Fitness I finally found both. Not only do I get the great facility, but I get an awesome family. Coach Jason, the Staff and my fellow students are great motivators as well as instructors. I just can't say enough about what a great place Level Up is to come and learn all you can about Boxing, Kickboxing and just Fitness in general. Oh and by the way...... Coach Jason was the reason my Son, after only training with Coach Jason a short time, won 2nd place in the Nationals (World Kickboxing Association of USA)!

Yemi: One of the best gyms in the DMV period. Great coaching and great facility. You will improve if you put in the work
Response: Thank you!

Erin Jimenez: Before I started training in the Spring of 2010, I would never have considered myself an athlete. I never imagined that I, a scientist, would step into the ring and compete. Towards the end of the summer of 2011, Coach Jason Farrell, then at Crazy 88, asked if I wanted to train a little harder and compete in sparring exhibitions. At the time I was very insecure with my striking abilities even after training for over a year, but Coach Jason believed I was ring ready and that the experience would help me grow. He was right! Its 2018 now and for the last 8 years we've been competing up and down the east coast and all over the world. We've fought nationally: Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Florida. Training at Level up has even taken me to fight in Mexico, Spain, Italy, and even Belarus! Up next is Canada. As coach Jason puts it, “We just keep chipping away everyday...Its a never ending experiment.” In the last 8 years, Coach Jason has dedicated thousands of hours of instruction, coaching, and mentoring. What I like most about working with him is that he will work even more than I train to get me ready for a competition. If I’m at the gym training, he is also there coaching and helping me get better. Outside the gym, Jason is always watching tape and will send me footage fights to study. I have been a spectator and participant at numerous boxing and kickboxing events and it’s a fact that Coach Jason’s students have the best striking skills. My goals right now are to continue to develop my striking skills and become professional athlete while working my scientist job full time. I’m so confident that I will keep on making more goals and achieving them under Coach Jason Farrell at Level Up.

Eriberto Osorio: I found level up in August of 2014 because I wanted to box and lose weight. I looked at many options nearby, walked into level up first since it was relatively close and decided this was the place I wanted to be. I love this place it's a great environment to learn and work out in. I have been coming to this gym for 3 years and will continue to do so until I no longer can. Thank you Coach Jason for giving me that first boxing class those years ago; it was a stepping stone into a healthier lifestyle.

Alex Milla: I started coming here just about a year ago. Other gyms really made me feel unwelcomed as a newbie. I was pretty self-conscious about slowing down classes and just felt generally unwanted at these gyms... like I was a burden. I take my physical fitness very seriously, so why would I waste my time at these places if they weren't going to show me any form of respect? So far, I have experienced nothing but patience from the other fighters and coaches alike. When I couldn't hold the pads right, the coaches showed me how. When I couldn't throw a punch right, the pad holder didn't get frustrated, they corrected me. Even when I felt like I just wasn't picking up Boxing, the coaches and managers helped to motivate me and keep me engaged. In just under a year, I've improved drastically in my BJJ and Boxing. It's a very dedicated but friendly atmosphere. You really do feel like your membership means something. This is a real fighter's gym, not whatever other gyms pass off as boxing (but is really Zumba with gloves). I'm still far from where I want to be, but I feel like I'm slowly but surely improving every time I walk out.

Yamasaki Academy: what do users think?

Thomas Tippit: Great staff. Very professional. Gave my son (age 6) a fantastic introduction to BJJ. He came out with more confidence and discipline!

Chris Lovelace: Great gym with a very welcoming culture. Fernando is a top instructor in the area and one of maybe 200 or less BJJ coral belts on the planet. Training with him and the other talented students at Yamasaki Academy has helped my jiu jitsu immeasurably. It's also a great location - next to the Twinbrook metro stop with plenty of free parking.

Mackie Barch: Great place to take your kids. Really great staff, good value and professionally run. It's a wonderful community of people.

Eric Rome: I have trained at a few schools. This is by far the best. High level instructors and great people. My 6 year old daughter just started. She loves Yamasaki. She loves the instructors and team mates. I drive 45 min to get here. Its worth every second of the drive PLUS I get to spend more time with my daughter.

D W: Yamasaki Rockville is simply an awesome place to train, in my opinion its easily one of the best gyms in the United states. You'll find all types of people from all walks of life training here. Don't be surprised to see several black belts in a class along with a plethora of brown and purple belts. And to top it off, people at the gym are extremely friendly and always willing to help. It's an absolutely amazing place to train whether you're experienced or just beginning.

Patrick Engracia: I loved training here. The community atmosphere is amazing. People are very nice and supportive. Coming from no background in BJJ, I felt welcomed and encouraged. Fernando and his instructors are world class. I highly recommend.

enzo cerrutti: Fernando Yamasaki is a world class instructor, competitor and human. The level is very high, the students range from beginner to high level, and the place is pretty big. You have dozen's black belt, if you want a real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school, it's one of the best in the area.

Sean Lynch: The best BJJ instruction in the area. Yamasaki has a great combination of both competitive and recreational practitioners. On top of that, they have a welcoming family friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend this gym.

Emily Kaput (kaputski): My partner and I trained here for some time in 2014-2017 (Muay Thai for me, BJJ for him). Muay Thai: great instruction. Coaches are great. Lots of seminars, and opportunities to train for fights (I never/will never do that...) That being said, it’s a great place to train if you’re looking for fights, AND if you’re NOT looking for a fight. And everyone plays nice, and if someone is going too hard, they’re very receptive to communication and they go easy (protect your tummies, ladies!). BJJ: from what I saw (and experienced in some classes), very good instruction when it’s led by a black or brown belt. Sometimes random crazy techniques were shown but my inability to understand them was very much linked to my lack of BJJ training. Family atmosphere- kids everywhere! Ever seen a mini samurai? Want to? They are everywhere at this dojo (so. Freaking. Cute.). The only con with this dojo (from our experience) is the inflexibility with the payment arrangements. I was spending one month in the states/one month out, and I would have preferred a more flexible payment arrangement. On a related note: when ending your membership (due to moving away etc or anything) make sure to let them know wayyyy in advance, because whomever is in charge of the membership payments is very stingy and WILL jip you for every last penny they can get you for. This happened to both of us (we ended memberships at different times, a year or so apart from one another). Overall, great experience (being cheap with the money is the bad taste left in the mouth).

Zhag M: I attended a few Muay Thai classes here while I was in the area and it was great. The instructors are attentive and helpful, the environment is friendly, and they cater to all skill levels. I highly recommend them!

Yamasaki Academy Springfield: what do users think?

Nica Lam: My experience with Yamasaki Academy has been awesome. Neto and other instructors are very knowledgeable and have multiple years of experience training and teaching. They are very patient with new members and make sure that no one feels left out. It's a good environment to be in and a great place to learn for beginners like me :)

Josh Quinquinio: My girlfriend had been training at Yamasaki Springfield for a couple years before I came in to visit at the start of 2019. I’ve since been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu here and my only regret is not having started sooner. Neto and all the instructors give phenomenal training and coaching to help you succeed and reach your goals. The gym has training partners of all skill levels, sizes, and from all walks of life. As a beginner, it can be challenging but everyone is so friendly and encouraging. It’s a great environment. Love the people and the experience I’ve had here.

Andrew Schaeffer: The Yamasaki Academy is the best Jiu-Jitsu school in the United States and Neto is by far one of the best instructors in the world. I am fortunate to have such experienced coaches to help develop my skills. The facility is top notch and the other members are very welcoming. I highly recommend it to grapplers of all levels.

Phillip Zierke: I have been a part of the Yamasaki family for nearly 10 years and can say that Neto is among one of the best instructors as a technician and coach. Weither your an experienced grappler or brand new to the world of Jiu Jitsu Yamasaki Academy of Springfield is very accommodating!

Jeremy P: I have been training at Yamasaki Springfield for over a year with Neto. Neto is one of the best professors in the area if you want to learn good jiu jitsu. Whether you're a beginner or advanced you'll benefit from training here. Don't miss out and come train at one of the academies in the area!

Linda Nguyen: I really love it at Yamasaki Academy Springfield! Professor Neto has been such an awesome coach. On my first day, I was so nervous and terrified because I didn't know anyone or anything about Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After about 5 mins of being in class, everyone made me feel comfortable. All the students were guiding me through the warm ups and technique. The gym always has a very nice friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I have been training with Professor Neto for almost 2 yrs now and it's basically like my second home. <3 <3 :)

David L Teitelbaum: I've been training in martial arts for 40 years, in various styles and places, but Yamasaki is home now. This is the place I bring my own kids. Professor Neto is wonderful and sets the tone of the school: everyone works hard and all are welcomed. The comraderie among the students is warm and genuine, and the martial art there is world class. No fake belts here.

Myron Adoteye: I was referred to Yamasaki Academy in 2015 by a friend who i trust greatly. It was the only school he referred me to, and it didn't take me long to see why. The instruction from Neto in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the highest level I've ever received. The students at the school went out of their way to make me feel welcome, inviting me to training sessions, tactfully critiquing my technique, and pushing me to become a more complete mixed martial artist. Neto works hard to ensure that every student receives an appropriate level of instruction commensurate to their skill level. For those with absolutely no combat sports experience, he makes sure to cover the basics and ease students into training. For those who have combat experience in other sports and/or Jiu-Jitsu, he will test and refine your fundamentals and help you progress to the next level. I've had the pleasure to learn under instructors who've competed in the UFC, Bellator, Ring of Combat, and many others. I can tell the passion that Neto has for the sport and the desire to share that love with everyone. As I mentioned earlier, his passion and skill as an instructor is the highest I've encountered and are a big reason for my remaining with the school almost 4 years later. I cannot recommend this school strongly enough. If you want a good workout, the ability to learn some life lessons, skills to defend yourself, and a home to grow in athletically, come to Yamasaki Academy of Springfield.

Andrew Hansen: I have been training at the yamasaki academy for nearly 4 years. I have spent two years of that time at the Springfield location. I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about 12 years time total. Most of that time my wife has been in the military and we have been forced to relocate often. I am extremely blessed to have landed here. Yamasaki academy of Springfield has brought out the best in me. Neto is a wonderful man with an unrivaled passion for his students and his instruction is second to none. Jiu Jitsu is literally his life’s work and I have met few people who take it as seriously as he does. He is a very honest and straightforward man in all of his dealings and I am blessed to have been welcomed here. It is an amazing atmosphere and a family POINT BLANK

Nabil Idris: I’ve been at Yamasaki for almost six years and I love each and every day that I’m on the mats. I couldn’t ask for better teammates who are friendly, caring, and passionate about seeing others succeed. Professor Neto is an outstanding instructor and goes above and beyond to provide the best atmosphere for his students.

Urban Boxing Arlington: what do users think?

F Zervou: What a gem of a place. Professionally run and maintained, excellent coaches and yet they retain a personalized touch and connect with each student. My teenage son is taking boxing lessons and they quickly focused on understanding him and developing trust, then gave him a perfect mixture of training for his physical and mental conditioning. They focus as much on the mind as the body. I’m a supremely picky dad, and I’m sold on these guys. Good people.
Response: Love it!! Thanks so much

Christopher Eirkson: Great gym, will give you a hard workout every class. Instructors are fantastic and motivating. Well worth the money. If I hadn't moved away from the area I would still be practicing here!
Response: Hi Christopher, your words are truly appreciated! Thank you

LFK: I have been a member since January 2018. It has been such an amazing experience and I have learned so much. All the coaches and the front desk staff have been amazing! They have class for everyone, from level 1 at the bag to sparring. Don’t miss the chance to workout while learning a new skill! Priceless!
Response: Welcome to the family, we are honored to have you :) Thanks for the review!

Rico Chandra: Moved to DC from Europe and looked for a boxing gym. After a quick phone call with Dan I went for a class the same day. Signing up at Urban Boxing turned out to be a great decision, life saver really: A whole lot of classes, run by super instructors, and an app lets you sign up first come first served. Do it!
Response: Hi Rico, you are missed! We look forward to having you back in September

Phuoc Nguyen: Great experience. I went with my teenage daughter as first timers to a kickboxing class. All of the coaches made time to say hello and welcome us. The class was challenging and fun.
Response: Hi Phuoc, we are delighted to hear that!

Your DMV Team Realty: A few of our agents are members of this gym and we can't say enough about how great the training and staff is! Truly a great workout for all levels! We love how the trainers push us to be the best and get the most out of our workouts but not overly aggressive! Highly recommend this gym to anyone in the area looking for a great environment to get a workout in
Response: Aw! Thanks so much! We truly appreciate the words :)

Cassidy Charles: I absolutely love the team at Urban Boxing. From day one, Dan made me feel comfortable with being in a serious gym for the first time. My first class was really hard but my instructor, Antoine, really pushed me and helped me through it. Everyone in the class was very supportive and overall cool to workout with. Antoine's classes were some of my favorite. I also took kickboxing with Jeff and Mike which I highly recommend if you want to do more leg work and do some more laughing through the pain.
Response: Thanks Cassidy, that is what we strive for!

Sophie Kushen: All around fantastic studio, wish I could give them 10 stars. The environment is super welcoming, not intimidating, and like everyone says, it's a second home. Truly going to be some of the people I miss most when I move! Dan, Josh, and the rest of the front staff are always totally lovely and accommodating and make every single person who comes in feel welcome and pumped up. We live for the fist bumps. The coaches are all phenomenal; they're always around to help correct technique or encourage you to work just a little bit harder, but they're also just all-around lovely humans who truly care about their students. I've had a serious ankle injury and Mike and Antoine have been angels helping me modify workouts so I can still come to classes safely while still pushing me to be better and not get lazy. The facilities are spotless and the staff is great about disinfecting after each class and making sure everything is covid safe. Could not recommend highly enough!

Matthew Fuller: Best gym in the area. If you're looking to learn something new, build on what you know, or just get in killer shape, this is the place to do it. Tons of classes for any schedule. Antoine, Tom, and the rest of the coaches are highly committed, accessible, and hold you accountable which you don't get most places. Great community too. If you're looking for a boxing gym, Urban Boxing Arlington is the spot.
Response: Hi Matthew, thanks for the kind words! Consider us your second home. We just added some level 2s to the schedule. Please check them out and let us know what you think!

Kristin Lee: I love this gym! Very clean and welcoming with a team of great coaches (Mike, Filip, Nathan and Antoine, to name a few). I would recommend to anyone, no matter their level of boxing experience.
Response: Thanks Kristin! We appreciate the love. Did you know for each friend you refer who joins, you get a free month! Bring anyone in you think will love Urban as much as you do :) Thanks again

Fifty/50 Martial Arts Academy: what do users think?

Adrienne Pires: Highly recommend this martial arts academy! Our kids have been going here for about 10 months and love it. Started with BJJ, but then switched to capoeira which they enjoyed more because of the acrobatics. The coaches and staff are really supportive and patient with the kids. The gym is pretty big and they have cameras so parents can observe from the lobby. Parking can be tough if you don't get there early, but there's room on the neighboring side streets which aren't too far away. Typically there's always people leaving between classes so I have always been able to find a stall. The prices are reasonable. Upfront costs may seem high, but it includes the uniform and which they need anyway. Otherwise it's a great price. They also offer discounts for siblings, military, etc.

JohnathanBolton: I am visiting from Hawaii and wanted to train at Fifty/50. I came straight from the airport after traveling over 10 hours. The lunchtime class was great. Very friendly students and instructors. You must visit if you are in the DC area.

Jordyn Short: I used to train at Fifty/50 when I lived in the DC area. The instruction was excellent. It’s one of the best BJJ schools in the area. They do a great job teaching fundamentals so you will have a solid base as you progress. The one thing anyone should know going in is it isn’t a school for people who don’t have “thick skin.” Instructors are genuinely encouraging, but they can also be a bit heavy handed/savage if you do something stupid (e.g. unsafe rolling). Ultimately, I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to go in with an open mind, good attitude, and “no quit” mentality.

Ryan Shen: Loves all of my coaches here. Best place for jiu-jitsu and striking in the the area. The one thing that makes me reconsider relocating out of Virginia is this gym. Will keep training here for as long as I can.

Justin Rader: Absolutely phenomenal place to train!! I am a 2X No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt World Champion and have been practicing jiu-jitsu for 21 years, and I visit 50/50 Martial Arts often and continue to learn!! Ryan Hall, Jen Hall, and the entire staff of instructors are some of the best in the world, and not only that, they are fantastic teachers!! I have never once visited and left feeling I took nothing away. I have improved with each visit!! And to top it all off, everyone is super friendly and welcoming, and they truly have a fantastic family environment that helps build and promote all who are there while still keeping that "old school" mentality which is so important!! Clean academy, amazing instructors, fantastic written curriculum to follow, and a great group of people who will make you feel like family!! I could not recommend 50/50 Martial Arts academy enough!! If you live in Virginia, this is 100% the place to train!!

D C: Great place to train. Both bjj and striking program is awesome and taught by great instructors. Everyone is super friendly and the school has a very accommodating schedule

CA Babs911: Great academy! One of the best on the East Coast. My son and I have been training their for for eight months and the training/learning is awesome. The academy is very family oriented and has an outstanding after school program for the kids, plus a summer camp for them as well. Fifty/50 goes above and beyond to ensure all their students are well trained in BJJ by world class professionals!

Lauren Middleton: I trained there back when i lived in the states... its hard being a BJJ black belt and still get expert instruction.. Jen Hall was my instructor back in 2016 and boy do i miss her experience.. living in Switzerland now i find it hard to train at an elite level. Do yourself a favor and join this place it can change/Safe your life...

Chris Gaskill: A Clean, Well-Lighted Place -Friendly Atmosphere -World Class Instruction (For All Levels of Development) -Clean and Spacious Grappling Area You'll choke and be choked, get a great workout and a new perspective on life.

Renzo Cuadros: Huge mat....even nicer people. The best part about this place is that they have segmented their beginner class - you have a Fundamentals one for people with less than 6 months of experience that is taught by Quinn (an awesome black belt) - then you have fundamentals 2 taught by Jenn (or one of the other black belts) that teaches white belts with more than 6 months of experience. Then you have the rest of the classes. This place is great - can't wait to come back when I get off the road

T.A.G. Muay Thai: what do users think?

Spencer Huang: Very new to Thai Boxing and martial arts in general, but TAG provides a welcoming environment to those who want to learn. Made decision to enroll after two-week free trial, which helped me a lot in deciding whether to pursue Muay Thai or not (as opposed to other martial arts). Training with the coaches and more experienced students has been very helpful in learning the fundamentals. Classes are not only a good workout, but also leave me with a lot of takeaways in technique. Overall very positive experience.

Hector The Goat: I was invited by Chris to participate in a seminar at my gym with Jo Nattawut and it was so much fun. Really thankful for the experience and look forward to more seminars. Chris has an amazing program at TAG Muay Thai and does many seminars with high level fighters.

Melissa Yorde: This was my daughters first time trying any type of class, and the coaches got her involved immediately. She couldn’t wait to go back! For a 4 year old that can be shy at times this was great. She learned the fundamentals quickly and she’s looking forward to class each week. 5 stars.

Bob Rudd: I came to TAG Muay Thai while in town visiting family — and had a great time. The owner was kind enough to set up a 1:1 lesson with a coach my size (heavyweight). I was given excellent instruction and had a really good time. The gym was super clean and well equipped. Would recommend anyone looking for Muay Thai training to check out TAG

william joyner: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueJoined with no experience and on the first day I knew I wanted to make the full commitment to join. I’m at introvert but regardless people will still talk to you and make sure you feel welcomed. This is not just a gym but a community of people always willing to help you achieve the goals you want.

Matthew Brunelli: My friend, Sam, joined Tag a few months ago and shortly after became very involved. He started instructing kids classes and even recommended I come to see how I like it. I’m glad I took this opportunity, as I was able to come for a few trial sessions during my winter break and really learned a lot. Tag is everything I want in a Muay Thai gym and more, everyone is certain to make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door.

Cynthia Sabri: This is the most welcoming gym for Muay Thai that you will find in this part of the U.S. The founder/main instructor works for the secret service and has many close connections with famous fighters like Anderson Silva! As a girl, this place is the safest gym I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot!

Calvin Simpkins: Fantastic coaching and atmosphere for learning Thai Boxing. I love how there is no expectation for you to pick up the techniques on your first try, instead encouraging repetition to the point you can't get it wrong. This isn't to say that the practices are always easy, as it provides a great, fun, albeit difficult at times method of staying in shape and learning self defense.

Alex Mar: T.A.G Muay Thai is an amazing gym to learn Muay Thai. It's the perfect blend of fight training paired with fitness intensity. Coache are not just super badasses, they are also very humble and personable. They have created a gym that has a team/family like atmosphere.

Brittany Ganzermiller: We have been going here for over a month now and really enjoy it . It's really generous that the owner lets the kids try out the program for a free two week trial. My son had never participated in anything like this before but as soon as he had his first class he really loved it and kept asking to continue . I like how the coaches don't treat the kids like babies and add a sense of discipline. Jake is one of the coaches there and it's really awesome to see him calling the kids by their names and supporting them throughout the class. This is definitely a program we will be with long term.

CABRERA JIU JITSU ACADEMY: what do users think?

Jose Ramirez: Joined this gym in November of 2021 a week after moving to Maryland from out of state. Cesar Cabrera welcomed me into his gym with open arms. This is a very welcoming environment and gym culture that Cesar has carefully curated at this jiu jitsu academy. Although I’ve only been training with the people of this gym for a couple of months, I can confidently say that I feel like family here. The class sizes are the right size to ensure you get the attention you need while learning new techniques. I did my research before settling on this gym. Cesar is a Renzo Gracie black belt. His technique is solid and his instruction is clear. I cannot recommend this gym enough! This is a hidden gem you do not want to overlook. Drop in and try a class out so that you can experience how special this place is for yourself!
Response: We are happy to have you here with us brother

Henrik Stenval: Very welcoming environment filled with a great group of people. Everyone is dedicated to helping each other learn , train, and get better at the art. Also, Cesar is a Renzo Gracie black belt, so you can be assured you are attending a school with a very credible professor.

Devon Kelly: I used to wrestle in high school and wanted to get back into something. Started training with cesar and it has been awesome. The atmosphere and training partners are great and very welcoming no matter your skill level. I definitely recommend this place On top of all that cesar is a highly intelligent individual who provides good knowledge with showing techniques. Its a blessing to be able to learn from a loving and knowledgeable instructor.
Response: We are blessed to have you here young man! Keep up the great work on and off the mats.

Amanda M: Cabrera is a wonderful, safe and fun Jiu Jitsu academy that my seven year old daughter attends. We, as a family, cannot say enough about the welcoming environment and careful attention given to each student. In this environment, all students and parents are encouraged to look-out for each other, help each other, and to encourage and cheer for each student. We are so happy to be a part of this small welcoming community.
Response: Thank you so much 😊 We are lucky to have her here. She’s a fighter for sure!

Denis Regan: I can't say enough great things about this academy. Cesar is a highly-credentialed professor whose instruction is top-class, is well-rounded, and is personalized for each individual student. He cares very deeply about his students and their progression both on and off the mats. You also become part of a community comprised of people from all different backgrounds and walks of life that come together to better each other. The academy has become like a second home to me. Would 100% recommend at least trying a trial class and seeing for yourself!
Response: You’re the man! Thank you for your dedication to the art.

joe davila: I had no martial arts experience at all. I was a small wimpy kid with no confidence. As I began my journey coach Cesar helped build my confidence and was the catalyst for me to grow in my personal and physical life. I’m happy to be a part of the team
Response: Love you Joey

Ryan Ingram: I have trained under Professor Cesar Cabrera for many years now. With my job in Personal protection and my military Background I am very skeptical on Training. When I moved to the DC area I tried a few places and then I met Cesar. His Knowledge, method of teaching, professionalism, and skill set stood out head and shoulders above the others. I have really enjoyed training and sharpening my knowledge from the teachings of Cesar. I feel much more prepared and comfortable at work and in life. I would encourage everybody that is thinking of learning self defense visit Cesar. Your life will improve in many ways.
Response: Awesome thank you

Xavier Agnelli: Highly recommend! I have been studying the martial arts since the age of four, and I can definitively say, as a life long martial artist, with black belts in other styles, that Cesar Cabrera, a first generation Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt, will provide you some of the best, most practical and realistic Jiu Jitsu training you could ever hope to receive. It’s really difficult to find a good martial arts instructor, it’s even harder to find a great martial arts instructor. Well, look no further, Cabrera Jiu Jitsu, located in Hyatsville MD is your destination! Trust and put your martial arts journey and training in the hands of Cesar Cabrera, and you will not regret your decision. The journey of 1000 leagues begins with the first step, well, take my advice and take your first step into that Dojo. Caesar Cabrera is open and welcoming to new students, and he is always happy to accept people into his Dojo that have never spent a day training in their lives. This dojo is excellent for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students alike. He even has women’s specific Jiu Jitsu classes as well. You can train in Gi and No-Gi. Cesar Cabrera Jiu Jitsu offers discounts off of his already incredibly affordable tuition costs to First Responders and Military personal. Very rarely can you train directly with a first generation Renzo Gracie black belt. Don’t miss this rare opportunity!

Kelly Elizabeth: While I am just beginning my jiu jitsu journey, I can confidently say that Cesar Cabrera is a phenomenal coach. I’ve been learning from him for about 7 months, and have grown immensely. Cesar’s instruction provides safe and welcoming environment that is conducive to learning and growth- both on an individual and team basis. His attitude and teaching methods create a gym culture that pushes you to work hard while you enjoy class.
Response: Thank you 🙏

Emily Deering: 100% recommend Cabrera BJJ for all ages, body types, and exercise enthusiasts. I’ve been taking group classes with Cesar for about eight months and seen some pretty cool progress even in that short period of time. Cesar’s classes are fun, easy to follow, and never dull. I went from attending classes twice a week to five days a week just because I couldn’t get enough of it. My group classes are composed of all genders, races, ages, and body types. Cesar easily adapts moves to best fit his students and provides personal one-on-one instruction whenever possible. As a small female who frequently jogs in the darker hours, I definitely say Cesar’s training is a must. Cesar takes every opportunity to provide his female students (and anyone interested) in quick/easy self-defense techniques. I am genuinely more confident running on my own since I started training under Cesar. Cabrera BJJ itself is empowering and physically exhausting. As a runner by nature, I’ve seen my endurance, strength, and flexibility all benefit from this style of training/exercise. If you’re looking for a great way to stay in shape and have some fun, you’ve definitely just found your people.
Response: Thank you 🙏

Onelife Boxing & MMA: what do users think?

Stefan Moe: I don't know why the DMV doesn't have more gyms like this in the area. This is a rare find where you have a UFC Gym inside of a One Life Gym. Instead of having to decide between a fighting gym and gym with good work out equipment, and classes that aren't fighting, you get both. It's definitely the best deal for a gym in the area for all the options it gives you. Tracy is an excellent instructor, who takes great pride in getting quality instructors in the gym the have a myriad of fighting backgrounds. You really get the mixed martial arts deal as she has instructors that span backgrounds from wrestling, to Muai Thai, to Tai Kwon Do, to Jiu-Jitsu and Aikido, to traditional boxing. The conditioning and cardio kickboxing classes are always intense as well and I always leave feeling like I got a good work out in. I go here four times or more a week, can't recommend it enough.

T Pat: This is the former UFC GYM in Alexandria. They partnered up with Onelife and have a brand new Studio located inside Onelife Fitness Alexandria. With some of the best coaches in the DMV, they offer All-access, unlimited classes in Boxing Conditioning, Kickboxing Conditioning, Strength Training AND a full technical program including Muay Thai, Boxing with a Competition Team, Jiujitsu and MMA! But wait, there’s more! Because they are now under Onelife, you also get a Onelife membership with access to any Onelife Fitness and all of their group fitness classes🔥💪🏼🔥!! ALL of this for $99 a month! AMAZING!

Maximus: Best boxing gym in the DMV!! Amazing coaches.

Kenneth Spencer: Great gym and boxing program!! Coaches are top notch!!

Ozhan akcakaya: Best boxing gym in the area!! State of the Art facility!!

Boxing for Life: Love the boxing program!! Damien ,Ronny and Blue rock!! A+

Crazy 88 Mixed Martial Arts: what do users think?

Jonathan Schmidt: We have 2 kids in the AP classes who have been enrolled at Crazy 88 for several years. The staff is always very supportive and professional. They are truly focused on the best interest of the kids. When everything was shut down during the early stages of Covid, the Crazy 88 staff found unique and creative ways to keep the kids active and learning while also keeping them safe. They were very accommodating with the small group that continued to attend classes. We are forever grateful to the staff for working so hard to keep the kids active. Both of our children have greatly benefited from the world-class instructors and the amazing kids in the program. Our kids will continue to participate in Crazy 88 classes for many years to come. Thank you to the amazing staff and instructors at Crazy 88 for helping our kids gain confidence while learning valuable life skills.
Response: Thanks Jonathan for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable for everyone. We're happy you are enjoying them and thank you for your continued support and being apart of Crazy 88 Family!

Willio Jean Paul: We just join crazy 88 approximately 6 weeks ago and we are very impressed with the gym. My son and daughter both have plenty of children at their skill level and size to enhance their jujitsu skills. The kids love their teachers and the teachers are very engaging and make class fun.I would recommend this gym to anyone searching for a quality gym that is very well run. The enrollment periods are generally very long but if you can get pass that I highly recommend it.
Response: Thanks Willio for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable for the kids. We're happy you are enjoying them.

Sarah Jentilet: I have been training Brazilian jiu jitsu at Crazy 88 for a few years now. All of the staff members are incredibly welcoming and professional, and all of the coaches are extremely knowledgeable. The coaches are very open and willing to work with anyone, no matter what your experience level or goals may be. If you are looking for a new gym or looking to learn a new skill, Crazy 88 is the place to go.
Response: Thanks Sarah for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable yet challenging. We're happy you are enjoying them and everything about Crazy 88 MMA.

Tyson Um: Solid gym with knowledge coaches. Coach Sebastian who runs the Muay Thai class is very knowledgeable in the art, stuff you usually don’t learn from other gyms. Intricate details about clinching and striking. Real Muay Thai things. Been training a while and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.
Response: Thanks Tyson for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable yet challenging. We're happy you are enjoying them!

Eric Middleton: Coaches were great, love them all. But gave Crazy 88 notice that I was transferring on military orders and thought they'd infer that my wife would be coming with me, they didn't. So my wife gave them notice but it was just under 30 days notice, so they went ahead and charged us anyway. A little disappointed that they capitalized on their 30 day rule to make a few extra bucks instead of cutting us the slack during our cross-country move.
Response: Hi Eric, Thank you for the feedback and for being a client during your time here. Unfortunately, we aren't aware of everyone's family situation and rely on the information provided in the program change request form when making changes to accounts. In regards to the 30 days notice, we let all our clients know that is the time frame. Sometimes we are able to process requests prior to the 30 days and sometimes not. Best of luck in your relocation.

Christina Payton: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueMy son is taking boxing and jiu jitsu classes. He loves the coaches and the training. It is helping build his confidence in himself and keeping him active. Everyone at the facility is so nice and helpful. Highly recommend!
Response: Thanks Christina for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable for the kids. We're happy you are enjoying them!

Cory Cromwell: My then 5yr old (CJ is 6 now), but the summer if last yr. My son came home & stated that he wanted to learn karate. Well, I talked to, 2 brothers (The Dorsey Brothers) about MMA etc. They directed us to Crazy 88 in Elkridge & for me to talk to Coach Vanessa. From the time we arrived, talked to Vanessa, and CJ coming out of his trial class w/ a smile....we knew this was the place. The Coaches/Instructors are great w/ the kids, patient & Good w/ demonstrating the moves so the children can understand. The Head Receptionist Erica, was very informative & detailed about Crazy 88 & what it means to be a member etc. As well, as those that work under her, provide the same customer service quality & info. If you, your child(ren) are looking for a Martial Arts Facility, CRAZY 88 MMA is the place for 👉 YOU!! Member: Cory & Son
Response: Thanks Cory for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes are enjoyable for the kids. We're happy you are enjoying being apart of Crazy 88 MMA!

Barnaby Farnsworth: Life changing. My wife and kids all come, and all take advantage of different programs - BJJ, MT, boxing, boot camp. Wish I had more time in the week - I would come every day. Fitness, confidence, camaraderie. Crazy 88 is the complete package.

Jeffrey Glossner: Hands down one of the best MMA, Jiu Jitsu, and Self defense schools on the east coast. The coaches are super knowledgable and professional and whatever your goals are, they are there to help you succeed.

shane Lowman: Crazy 88 is more then just a gym…it is an environment where everyone is welcome. You can be a world renown competitor or a mom of 4 and still find a great fit at crazy 88!
Response: Thanks Shane for the review. Our instructors work hard to make sure the classes and environment are enjoyable. We're happy you are enjoying your time at Crazy 88!
