Mike Groves: I am thrilled with the superb job that Edwin & Carlos did replacing the furnace at my home in Arlington. They are good guys, as well as excellent Technicians. The new furnace is cranking, the installation looks magnificent. They didn't leave one speck of dirt or dust behind, despite relocating my thermostat onto another piece of wall. Their communication was impressive. They called me when they were arriving, and they were right on time as promised. They kept me apprised as the day went on. They are total professionals. I have referred your company to many other people & entities, residential & commercial, and I will continue to recommend Polar Bear HVAC with great enthusiasm. It is difficult to find honest, ethical, reasonably-priced firms that perform excellent work. Your locally owned company is truly one of those firms that has a standard of excellence that is far beyond every HVAC company that I've ever dealt with in the past 30 years here in northern Virginia. Gabriel Gopen: Polar Bear installed a ductless mini-split for us and they were some of the best contractors that I have ever dealt with. We needed to convert a sun room into a home office. A sales rep came out to discuss options and look at the space. He walked through all the details from where the unit would go to the conduit lines. When the unit we ordered couldn't be delivered, they upgraded our unit at their expense. Great company, highly recommended! Services: Ductless heating & A/C services , Heating system installation

Anne Miller: Our heater stopped working and it very cold in our house. Polar Bear did come out on a Sunday in a timely manner. The owner seemed friendly. He was wearing a mask but it kept coming down as he was talking so it was pointless. He told me I needed a new furnace costing $5200. My furnace is only 10 years old, we bought a very good model and was told it would last 15 to 20 years. He told a very inappropriate political joke during our conversation and is very good at selling. He went on and on about why it wasn’t worth repairing. I thanked him and decided on a second opinion. The next day another company came in and repaired it for $750.00 and assured me the furnace will be good for another 10 years. The parts they repaired were not even close to what Polar Bear said was wrong with it. Buyer beware and always get a second opinion. I do not recommend Polar Bear!

Tim Rann: Very friendly team and easy to schedule. Purchased the 2x annual service contract. The first AC inspection went smoothly, although the technician didnt really clean anything (just made sure everything in working order). Suggested I use a hose to clean the condenser on my own - had hoped they would do this. My unit started leaking a few months later, causing some minor flooding in my basement. Had to call Polar Bear a few times over the weekend before they confirmed that they don't send anyone out on Sat or Sun. Was able to get an appt on Monday afternoon - no real harm done, but would have been nice if they were upfront on timeline (esp for "priority service" per my service contract). Technician very quickly identified the core issue and getting an estimate for a new system one day later. Overall, pretty happy with Polar Bear - customer service very pleasant, technicians on-time and very nice / to the point.

Tracy Roman: We had a great experience with Polar Bear. We called them in the middle of a heat wave and they had a technician out to us the next day. The technician was on-time, courteous and quick. He diagnosed the problem in a few minutes, fixed it on the spot, and made recommendations for future maintenance of our system. Also, the employee who answered the phone and scheduled the visit was very courteous and helpful. All in all, we are extremely satisfied and will use them in the future for any heating and AC problems.

I own a 1913 row house in Washington DC and after eight long hot summers, I finally decided to have central AC installed. After getting estimates from multiple companies in the area, I decided on Polar Bear. Joe Kelly, the owner, provided exceptional ideas for installing central air in my older home. The duct work went through the attic and walls, so no exterior ducts with drywall were needed. Mr. Kelly offered the best, most competitive price. Communication with Mr. Kelly and his crew was easy. I didn't have any concerns about the crew working in my house and they were respectful of my space and pets. The project was completed ahead of schedule. I'm very pleased with this investment of AC from Polar Bear and look forward to enjoying a cool, comfortable house next summer.

Amy Bishton: This fall, when my 20 year old gas boiler would not fire up upon first use, I contacted Polar Bear to take a look. Their response was incredibly quick, with a tech dispatched on Monday afternoon based on a Sunday evening email. The tech arrived promptly, worked efficiently, was knowledgeable and willing to answer all my questions on boiler operation. Robert Hoffman: Patrick came the week before, without delay, when we reported that the outside unit was continuously running even though it was not a cold day. Gerald added freon last year and the unit was 14 years old. Paatrick said the blower was out and would cost $1,800 to replace. So we decided to replace the entire unit. Patrick was very good about explaining everything as we made our decision about what to purchase. Today (4/22/21), Levi and Trey came and installed the unit. They were friendly & professional and did a great job! Patrick came over and inspected the job and was again very nice. I would recommend your business to others. Tunisia Christian: I can't give a response on the quality of their work because despite 2 last minute rescheduled appointments on their part--no one ever showed up to my home. When I called them, their explanation was bogus at best. The driver called when he was 45 minutes away and since I didn't pick up they bothered not to come--I have 1 missed call and could not pick up because I was conducting a meeting (I work from home). I explained well I'm home and hubby is home and if someone knocked on my door as scheduled then I wouldn't be sitting in HVAC limbo. Called Spartan Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning and while the fee is a little more- ($118 vs $80) I'm willing to pay for quality customer service and responsiveness.

Meredith Regine Scialabba: As luck would have it, our AC quit working on the hottest day of the year! Given that it was a Sunday, we were worried that we couldn’t get someone and worse, get it fixed. We called first thing in the morning, immediately received a call back and our tech, Ken, was out to see us within a few hours. He not only fixed our AC (needed a replacement part) but also instructed us on how to better care for our unit. His workmanship, demeanor and guidance were top notch and much appreciated. Syed Younus: NICE Heating & Air was amazing, from the get go when the sales person came, to understanding options / pricing / financing with the main office, all the way through the technical side of things with the installation crew. I’m extremely happy I went with NICE- there are a lot of HVAC installation crews out there but I truly think this business thinks of the customer first. They use great technology in terms of scheduling and are transparent with what they’re selling (equipment, cost) which I appreciate, as many other companies refuse to do the latter. The entire crew was patient, flexible and customer-service oriented. I highly recommend NICE and will use them going forward for maintenance. I know I’m in great hands with them! You will see they are well reviewed in all the sites out there, don’t just take my word for it!

Rich Ressler: We've used Nice a few times now both for our furnace, AC, and our tankless hot water heater. The service each time has been excellent -- technicians were on time, friendly, and very helpful. I ask a lot of questions, and the technicians did a great job explaining how all of our systems function, what they were testing, and what they found. Our most recent service was more involved, and required replacing our furnace's control board. Rolando did a great job, and even managed to pop over to a supplier to get the necessary part to get the repair done in the same afternoon. Steve Kramer: I have been a Spartan customer for several years, now, and always found their plumbers to be well qualified and professional. For today's job (which was to repair a leak in our sink), David was no exception to this rule. I found him to be not only incredibly competent, but extremely polite and cheerful. He carefully explained all of the work he would be doing prior to performing it. He arrived exactly on time and cleaned everything up before leaving. Peter Mott: This company's web site says "voted best in DC seven years in a row" and "BBB A+ rated". Buyer beware! We have used them occasionally for many years. In the past, they would show up on time, do a good job, and charge a fair price. However, they have lately changed their billing practices, and now charge by the job, not by the hour, and the result is their prices have more than doubled. When we called to complain, they gave us a lecture on capitalism. We are remodeling a small bathroom. Called them to cap off supply and drain lines, and install three simple shut off valves -- an easy job. Total cost of components from Home Depot was $28.91, and it took them 90 minutes to do it (total time in to out the door). Their fees were: Three angle stop valves -- $645 2" PVC cap -- $189 1/2" copper cap -- $278 (They waived the $89 dispatch fee) TOTAL $1,112 I would expect to pay about $400 for this job. After receiving this exorbitant invoice I contacted them using a different name, and asked them to quote this exact work. They said they would send a tech for $99 ($10 more than what is on their web page, what they charged us last month), and the tech would review the job and provide the quote. So when you call for their service, the tech shows up and gives you a huge price, and then stands and waits for you to agree to it -- after you already owe them the $99 dispatch fee. Kaprice Gettemy: My furnace sounded like a jet engine when I turned it on this morning - not ideal for Airbnb guests checking in for the Thanksgiving holiday. I called several plumbing and heating companies. The first came out and the technician asked if I had any tools. Seriously? Spartan called just as I left but their technician, Matthew L., let himself in using the house code, listened to the furnace noise with me over the phone, then proceeded to to do his thing - with tools! He called me back about 20 mins later, reporting he'd diagnosed and fixed the problem...a piece of insulation rubbing against the motor was the culprit. He charged me for just the service call. The other company told me they'd have to order a new motor and replace it to the tune of $400, but they didn't even check it because I only had a screwdriver. michele Coffman: They were sent to my home due to drain blockage by my home warranty. After putting a camera down the pipes I was informed I needed to replace the pipes, verbal quote of $15,000. I asked for contract so we could get things started and did not hear back from them. Called again did not hear back then my system backed up again. Would leave a message he would tell me they were going to email contract and never did. I ended up having to reach out to other plumbers to get the work done. Which ended up being a good thing because they just replaced the pipes in the yard and did not tear up my basement for half the cost. When I shared the pipe video with the other plumbers they said the language on that video was completely unprofessional. Services: Sewer repair , Sewer cleaning

Paul Heineman: I had work done a few years ago. I know different people have different experiences, but this has been mine. First of all, they would get high marks for responsiveness, at least initially. I was in a real jam when our AC conked out during a heat wave. They came the next day and installed a new unit 3 days later. Here are the issues: 1) I know this might sound petty, but when the manager came out to give an estimate, if he said once he said 25 times, “the guys will put down drop cloths and wear shoe covers.” Well, not one drop cloth or shoe cover. 2) After a while it seemed that my unit was running really loudly. Only then did I look behind the some venting to see that they had ‘sealed’ the vent run with a piece of cardboard cut off from the box and a couple of pieces of tape that not surprisingly blew off after a couple of days of heavy use. 3) Dial ahead a couple of years and there was an overflow from my condensation pump. I was afraid of some major systemic problem so I called a tech. Fortunately, it was minor. He found that there was a sediment ring around the PVC because it was flat and plumb against the bottom. He explained that it should be cut at an angle and not touch the bottom, to prevent this very thing. He added that because this is the last thing the installers do they often don’t bother to do it right. 4) Remember that I qualified my comment about responsiveness. Seems to be that when a smaller company does an $8K job they might follow up with a call to see how everything went. I never heard another word. A couple of months later I called and asked for an estimate to install a humidifier. No response. My unit still keeps our home cool in the summer and warm in the winter but my experience was less than 5-star. Service: Install AC

Debbie Fox: Jimmy Gusky and company have always been my go to for my HVAC repairs since I moved to DC in 2016. Now they will also be my go to for gas leak and plumbing repairs. While getting various bids for many repairs over the years, his has alway affordable and accurate. While others try to overcharge and upsell on bids, often by thousands of dollars, Jimmy always gives me a fair price and honest bid. Recently I had a serious gas leak in my condo that was affecting mine and my pet's health. My condo (and condo building) smelled horrible like gas too. Jacob on Jimmy's team did an amazing job pinpointing multiple gas leaks in my condo and my building and found a pretty major one in my unit. An unused gas line that was leaking badly. I am forever grateful for Jimmy and Jacob for taking my repair quest seriously (when the gas company didn't) and not giving up when the gas leak was not easy to find. Overall the experience was very stressful and the gas company was pretty awful and dismissive of the gas leaks (!!!)--but through it all, Jimmy and Jacob were on my team and stayed on task to get it done. Most importantly, they believed me and treated me with respect. They were the silver lining in the whole experience. I will continue to always call Jimmy Gusky first and am so grateful for them that I can now move back into my condo. Thank you so much Jimmy and Jacob!

DC Guy: Top notch, five-star experience for replacing an entire HVAC system. Estimate and Responsiveness: Tom K. was our point of contact and I suggest asking for him by name. Tom has an easy going attitude, is very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. We talked through the details of what I wanted to get done and he was able to generate a very fair and reasonable estimate. I never had a problem getting a hold of him by phone or text and his responses were always quick. He coordinated everything for our demo, carpenter work and installation and everything went smoothly. He kept me informed each day as to what time I could expect the next day's activities. Demo: Kenny and John made short-work of removing the old system. They used drop cloths and made sure to keep a tidy work space. They quickly dismantled and removed the system without an incident. Both are very friendly guys and easy to talk with and they know their trade well. Carpentry: Part of our project required removing drywall, replacing insulation as well as leveling the floor. Amado was off the charts good. Very professional and detail oriented, just a great experience as he made easy work of the project and cleaned everything up when he was done. Installation: Again had the A-team of Kenny and John complete the installation of the new system. As mentioned, the guys know their stuff and it was a seamless install. They got me hooked up quickly, did a diagnostic check, installed a new thermostat and made sure everything was working. Polite and friendly guys with the right combination of experience and knowledge to make the job an overall great experience. Jimmy G even stopped in himself to ensure we were happy with everything. Overall, the kind of experience you want and expect to have from estimate to install. I have no issues or complaints. I'd deal with the team members mentioned above and have no reservation about recommending them. Five-star worthy experience. Service: Heating system installation

Seema Thakur: The service was terrible and extremely unprofessional. No one showed up for the appointed time that was provided by owner, weeks in advance. After several calls, someone showed up 3 hours later. Then the tech complained the whole time, especially to the owner, who did make sure he came by later to pick up the "cash deposit" of $800.00. Someone was suppose to come back to finish the job. No show, no calls, no texts, nothing. I just called another HVAC company, who were way better and professional, and they couldn't believe the terrible work by Jimmy Gusky, LLC (we have pictures and a video to confirm their work, or lack of). The owner then try to call 2 days later. How convenient for him. Please, as a customer, I had to let other potential customers know about this terrible service. Stay away from them. Jim Lo: Highly recommend. When my HVAC died I called three companies for estimates. The first (Gary Frank Heating and Cooling) never showed for their appointment. The second (John C. Flood) showed on time but asked an obscene $11.6k for a new HVAC unit. The third (Jimmy Gusky) showed on time and quoted me $4k less than John C. Flood for a comparable unit. So if you’re looking for an honest business to replace your HVAC or heat pump, this is it.

Joseph Davison: Just wanted to share my experience. First, they came out to inspect my hot water heater and provided clear and understandable explanations on what needed to be fixed, this is why I didn't give a 1 star. I had a very different experience with the HVAC. I had a intermittent problem where my heat would sometimes turn on and sometimes not, which I agree is a tricky problem, but that's why I called a professional. The 1st time, they didn't show, didn't call me and I called them to cancel after they were 30min past their latest time. When they came out later the next day or so they saw the problem or they symptom of the heat not turning on. They inspected a few things, didn't make any changes and it worked the 2nd time, so they reported "it was working" even though the problem existed when they got there, they didn't change anything it magically worked. I called later that day when it stopped working they said they would contact me but didn't. I contacted them about 1-2 days later when I didn't hear anything and they said they probably need to replace a part. They came out twice in 1 day because they brought the wrong part. They replaced the part which cost 4 times the cost of the part, even though replacing it too 15min and was held in by 2 screws and 2 push on wires. This did not fix the problem so I texted and left a message through their website and never heard anything from them. I have since called another company who fixed the issue after coming out once Service: Heating equipment repair & installation

Adam Berg: Our heat broke following a snow storm. Another company told us they would come out to fix it but canceled on us. Jimmy Gusky sent someone the same day they were called, and went on to our flat roof with some snow still on it even though another company refused, ordered a part, came back the next day to install it. Steven Wood: I had previously given this company high marks for the furnace that they had replaced. I then hired them to do a simple shower faucet replacement, this has turned into a nightmare! They do not communicate, schedule, and no show. I am looking into firing them and bringing in another company to clean up this mess AND make my bathroom usable again. I have found out that the plumbing was installed too far back from the tile surface, so the knobs will not go on as they should. FMITA!

Joanne Friedman: It’s been almost a year of trying to have Clover Services replace an incorrect bath and shower set they installed and refund monies owed. They are mostly non responsive, and when I have spoken with them, I have found them rude and wholly unprofessional. They also happen to be on the more expensive end of the spectrum. The two techs that did the work were very nice and professional and took special care with my 98-year old Dad, for whom I was having the work done. Mark Pearson: Pleasant and competent, but insanely expensive. $1500 (labor only) to replace a faucet. Didn’t do that…but did get the sink drain plug replaced for a mere $500 because that was time critical. That puts the cost of their labor at about $400/hour. That’s about 5X what professional skilled household repair labor should cost. Maybe this company specializes in nuclear reactor repair and I called them by accident. I called McMurray's Heating and AC, holding my breath knowing that supply chain challenges could impact the availability of units. The space where the unit is tight, right next to my water heater, yet they again performed magic in removing the old and installing the new unit. They were totally professional and very competent. keith jackson: The gentleman called me back while shopping. I proceeded to describe my problem and he placed me on mute while he talked to “another shopper”. Then took me off of mute after I’m like “hello” (noticing I’m on mute) so I can him wrapping up his conversation. After repeating what I said while on mute he cut me short. But recently, we experienced a broken water pipe with uncontrolled flooding. HD Johnson was on the site within minutes and did an amazing job fixing the immediate and underlying issues. Benjamin Herzberg: I would definitely use them again. I got to H.D. Johnson though the manufacturer of my high efficiency unit (a Burnham Hydronics unit, of U.S. Boiler Company). The unit indicated an error code, and while I could restart it a few times, it kept failing with that error code, and eventually stopped working altogether. The manufacturer indicated who were the certified professionals for my area. In the past I had used a random plumbing/heating company to service this boiler and it had been a mistake: These are delicate machines and you do need people who know what they are talking about. I could see from the first minute that the people at H.D, Johnson were familiar with the unit and its components. They dispatched someone on next day, who tested the unit and found the possible issue with a blowing fan motor. Before recommending me to order the part, they checked with the actual factory who makes this unit to ensure that their diagnostic was right (they wanted to check if it could be something else). The diagnostic was spot on. The manufacturer said it was 99% chance the issue was caused by the defective part. After 10 years of good service, the electronics in that blower fan motor had failed. I got then the very professional install team of Jeremy, senior technician. He was a different technician that the person who did the diagnostic, and that comforted me in the idea that all H.D. Johnson technicians are well trained, and all have excellent technical knowledge of the issue they are dealing with. He arrived promptly. He engaged in a very neat and conscientious workmanship. Not only did he replace the part, but also proceeded to do a thorough clean of the unit (for instance, vacuuming carbon debris out from the combustion chamber), hence ensuring a more efficient work of the unit for the years to come. I am very satisfied with the installed part and repair. The boiler works really smoothly now. Should I ever need maintenance or repair, again I will definitely use them. They provided an extremely friendly service. It was not the cheapest but it was a very reasonable price. They got it done fast and with high quality and professionalism, which is what matters. Michael O.: In my basement, I had an old galvanized pipe that started leaking with a steady drip. It was in a pretty inaccessible location between two joists above a duct, and I worried it would mean a lot of tearing things apart just to get to it. The guys from HD Johnson came quickly and pulled down only the framing and paneling they needed to expose it. They could have used a part they had with them, but it didn't fit perfectly so they went and got the right piece and installed it, and it's been dry since. The guys were neat and cleaned up after themselves and they always wore masks and foot coverings. They didn't try to make a major project out of it, and I was surprised how little they charged me for what they did.

G V: Critical: ValueI used them for an issue with a mini split. They charged $120 for 1 lb of refrigerant. For info you can buy a 25lbs of R410 Refrigerant for $200. Be prepare, you will spend more than $400 for a basic repair.Service: Heating system repair

Zach Geller: My experience with Magnolia was abysmal. I called Magnolia on a Thursday asking them for the first available appointment because my air conditioner was dripping a lot of water every time it turned on. They said the first time available is that Sunday... fine, I get it’s the busy season. Sunday comes along and the technician’s equipment, a wet vac, isn’t working and says he will have to come back when it is working. He notes that the cause of the problem is likely the condensate line and that he will call to schedule the new appointment. Days go by and I don’t hear back from him or anyone at Magnolia so I called again. It is now Wednesday, 6 days since my first call. Miraculously, they say he can come that day! I stay home that day and wait for his call but it never comes. Late that evening I get a call from the tech saying he can’t come that day but he’ll be there Friday morning. He arrives on friday morning with his wet vac and nothing else and vacuums out the condensation pan and then asks for paper towels - I figure he’s cleaning up some of the splashed water that got on the walls and floor. Then he says something along the lines of “if the problem persists, we will need to rebuild the condensate line” and hands me his card reader to pay the bill. $189 dispatch fee and $235 for vacuuming out the pan. I was shocked. Had I known he was just going to vacuum out the pan for $235 and not actually fix the problem, I would have spent the $200 at Home Depot to buy my own wet vac. Unsurprisingly, the drip started back up within the day but was coming from a different spot now. I followed up directly with him and then with the dispatch team. I asked for them to apply the money I already paid to actually repairing it... a full week later and I still have not heard back. I’ve never felt like anyone has ever taken advantage of me so aggressively before. $424 is no small amount of money, especially considering the time I needed to put into this for negative results. Not to mention that when I hired a more competent company to clear the condensate line, they found the paper towels I handed the Magnolia tech shoved into the pan which caused the leak to move and damage even more drywall. I’m still waiting for my refund. Make this right, Magnolia. Service: Repair HVAC

Matt Toigo: I've had Magnolia do work for me twice and both times they've been outstanding. I needed advice on an old boiler and Angel clearly ran me through everything I had, checked everything over, what service options were available, and didn't try to scare me into servicing anything or buying a totally new system. Really appreciate having all the info I needed to make good decisions on maintaining or replacing what I had. I had another plumbing company no-show for a job, called Magnolia up, they got Nelson here at 9AM the next day. They gave me an estimate before starting any of the work, talked me through everything they were going to do, and capped a gas line and installed a new tub faucet in 2 hours. Life is too short to deal with contractors who don't communicate well or show up so I'll call them every time now for anything plumbing/heating related. Chris Faircloth: The customer service at this company is atrocious. I have been rescheduled and cancelled on multiple times after providing a down payment and being repeatedly assured that service would be performed during the scheduled appointment. I will update this review if they ever actually fix the air conditioning but so far we are going on week 5... Update: The AC has been fixed but at double the cost that was estimated based on the initial visit. While the technician was kind and apologetic, I will be looking elsewhere in the future.

Alonzo F: Magnolia Plumbing Service. A couple of days ago I noticed water was leaking from my hot water tank. Call around for estimates for a tankless water system but was shock at the prices. I call several companies for the estimate and decided to go with a regular tank water heater. I chose Magnolia Plumbing to replace my tank. The plumbing service technician was mainly why I chose this company. He followed up that night with a call to see if I made a decision to go with his company. He saw that my water was ready to go and to call in the morning if I had any problems. Sure enough, that night the water tank fail and water all over the place. I called the plumbing technician Pasquale Skok, he call back and told he would check his schedule and see if he could come that morning. He did come and installed my new water heater and this is the first time that I received such great service from a Plumbing company. Magnolia Plumbing your technician is a true value to your company. W P: Installed heating system in March 2019, and it had to be repaired due to improper installation in December 2021. The heating system was installed on a tilt causing improper drainage and buildup of condensation causing the motor to stop in the middle of winter. When contacted, JD Air would not repair since it was not within 12 months of installation. When asked if "they stand by their work?" they gave a non-committal answer. Erik Anderson: Julian feels like family after multiple positive interactions. We hired Julian to install a new AC system to replace an old one. Compared to other quotes, he spent considerable time listening to our needs and tailoring the quote accordingly. While we ultimately went with a more traditional system, I appreciated that he offered a few options, including one creative one in response to our preliminary interests. The day of the install was a long one, going well into the night, but throughout the process we felt Julian and his team paid attention to detail and treated the job with utmost respect. We've had a few follow-up issues and Julian and his team have been super responsive and easy to work with in resolving those issues. George Grabow: Contacted Michael and Son for general plumbing and pipe repair in a location that had very difficult access. One of their highly experienced plumbers, Eric Blackmon, called and asked to see if he could come early. I was overjoyed as our water supply had to be turned off. Erick immediately assessed the situation and briefed me on some of the complexities and how he planned to proceed with the repairs. He kept me completely informed of his progress and asked me to inspect the project when completed. He was very knowledgeable and shared some of that with me. He then asked if I needed any other repairs work and then made some expert suggestions of other potential problems that I should keep my eye on. Brittany Booker: Our service person was very nice and knowledgeable and completed the work in a timely manner. However, the work (electrical panel replaced) that was done to me is "incomplete" but according to M&S it is complete and we would have to get a "handyman crew" to fix the dry wall that the Michael & Son employee cut out and drilled back in a sloppy manner. I emailed Michael and Son's customer service and was told it's an additional cost for the dry wall to be fixed..usually costing $350 extra. Also, originally we were going to use their "leasing program" in order for this unexpected job to be completed. We asked every question we could think of to our service person and the bank they use for this program. It was not explained that if we paid it off early that there would be a "buyout" to complete the 120 month contract they wanted us to sign. ($10k total) This whole process to me was not very smooth and to honest "incomplete" due to the extra dry wall that had to be cut below the paneling. UPDATE 4/7/22 We were told the job was "complete" about a month ago, however when the Dominion person came out today to inspect the final project, there was a copper wire that wasn't grounded. I am stuck with this heating/hot water heating system that I paid $15,000 for and only worked for 3 months. I am very disappointed. This company installed a furnace and hot water heater system in November. Three months later I discovered water leaking from the system, there was water all over the floor. A tech came out on a Wednesday but was able to make the repair. The tech shut off the valve and had me turn off the system. He returned the next day and stopped the leak. Due to warmer than normal temps I didn’t realize the heat was not working and on Saturday morning the temperature in my house was in the 40s. A tech came out for the third time on Saturday but wasn’t able to fix it. I would have to wait until Monday. The tech returned for the forth time, was here for about an hour. He left saying that he thinks he knows what the issue is but it is 1100 on Monday and I am still without heat and hot water and waiting for the tech to return. I don’t have any confidence that even if this system is fixed that it won’t break down again. I began calling customer service on Saturday when it was clear that the system couldn’t be fixed. I asked for a replacement of my system. Unfortunately the people who could help were not available on the weekend. I waited until 8 on Monday and still had not received a called. At this point I was quite angry. I finally received a call back and I vehemently expressed that I wanted a replacement system. I was told it didn’t work that way and he wasn’t in the mood to be yelled at and hung up. I have been without heat and hot water since Friday and I am unsure when my system will be repaired.

Christine: Michael & Sons has done my furnace installation and electrical panel upgrade as well as regular maintenance on my A/C and heating. They are always professional and are mostly on time. They could be a little better about cleaning up after themselves but it’s not a huge complaint since they do a good job on the actual project at hand. There are small things I wish they would be more clear about such as they won’t be patching the square they cut out of my wall to work on the electrical panel so I have to find someone to do that as I’m not handy myself. They’re not the cheapest service but they’re not the most expensive and most of their services have a pretty good warranty that’s included. R and D: Michael & Son - Plumbing – Shower Repair - 2/23/2022 The technician respected my property by putting on foot covers at the door (each time) and not parking in my driveway without asking. I appreciated that the technician followed health protocols for wearing a face mask. The technician asked about the problem and listened to my concern (“The shower will not stop dripping”). The technician explained his assessment of the problem based on his inspection and he offered a solution. He offered assurance that Michael and Son could fix the problem and the price (up scale) for the service. The technician completed the repairs promptly and professionally. Just Me: The installation of a standby generator for my home couldn't have gone better. A large team arrived for 2 days, with Mr. Mike B. as the lead installer. He was professional throughout this process and clearly an expert. He's been doing this for a long time, and it shows. Home projects easily overwhelm me, but Mr. Mike was a calming force that eased all concern. My generator system looks great. All inspections have been passed. For the first time in many years, I can face the hurricane season without fear. And many thanks to Brenda and others at the office for their endless patience with me. I've delayed this project so many times while caring for my disabled child, but it's finally done. If a power outage comes my way, I will shelter in place with confidence. Thanks Belair!

Nikki Lachelle: Brendan, is just the bestest!! I had a leaky faucet issue and a broken turn-off valve so I hired Belair Engineering for the repair. They sent over Brendan. He was so cool (polite, courteous) and masterfully skilled at the job at hand. He fully explained to me the issue and the solution taken to fix the problem. He fixed the leak, only to have another one pop-up! Once he completed the initial repair and turned the main water line back on water began leaking underneath my kitchen sink, through the ceiling and into the basement below. He was just about packed up and ready to go when I discovered this, but he still jumped right in and fixed it anyway. No hesitation. No complaint. Just awesome! And all the while doing this, he maintained the in-home protocols (shoe covers, etc.) He even helped me clean up the leak which he didn't have to do. And for those of you a little "particular" like me ...you know not quite OCD, but right at that line :-) it mattered. I would not hesitate to call the company for your plumbing issues. Lonnie Dawkins: I read all the wonderful reviews on Belair Engineering on the internet and requested their service to repair my HVAC. A Belair technician came to my home and stated that I needed a limit switch. When the switch was available three chilly days later a second technician came out to install it. The second Belair technician stated that in addition to the limit switch I needed a circuit board and a power switch. That did not seem logical. I refused the service and called a different HVAC company The second HVAC company came to my home and within 30 minutes my system was working. No parts were needed or replaced!! My HVAC has been working fine since the second HVAC company came out. I am baffled why Belair required two trips and told me that I needed to pay for three parts while a second HVAC company fixed whatever was wrong with my system within 30 minutes with no new parts and charged me less than a hundred dollars. Matthew Handy: I first went to Belair Engineering for a new HVAC in early 2019 for my rental property. I solicited bids from several companies, and selected Belair because they offered the best system price. Everything up to and including the conclusion of the install process went smoothly, but then things started to fall apart. The night after the install my tenants reported a gas smell. Belair assured us that some level of gas smell was normal after a new system install. However, the smell persisted. Belair told us everything was fine. When the inspector came by, we found out that we had been left with a gas leak as well as a new HVAC! To their credit, Belair did fix this gas leak at no charge, but I was still left with an explosion hazard after the install that required an inspector to identify. Fast forward two years. My tenants moved out of the property. As I was doing my walkthrough, I examined the back of the building, by the condenser. Belair had installed the fuse box at a bit of an angle, and slopped caulk awkwardly around the edges. See Photo A. They had also moved the electrical box closer to the ground, and left a large gap in the siding with a piece of wood stuck awkwardly over the aperture. Even worse, the wood appears to not be firmly connected to anything underneath, so I have this floating electrical box. See Photos B, C, and D. I called Belair and spoke to someone named Brian on April 14th. He promised to take a look at my photos and get back to me if he felt there was anything wrong, but that he felt Belair was not responsible for completing any siding repairs that might be necessary after their work was completed. I explained that in managing my pool of rental properties, I had to consider wholistic cost. If Belair would leave work in a state that required me to expend more resources in cleaning up, then I had to weigh the cost offset to repair their work against the cost of their bid. In Brian’s words: “That’s fine.” Brian never did get back to me. To add icing to the cake, I received a bill yesterday, April 28th, for an extended service contract, which I did not agree to and did not ask for. Now, I have big hole in my siding, a questionable electrical box, and a poorly installed fuse box that I need to have someone else fix. Thanks, this was an expensive lesson in which contractor to trust. Services: Install AC , Heating system installation

BTW, the current code is; an electrical disconnect box cannot be located behind an outdoor AC unit. It has to be located so that you can just get to the disconnect box without having to maneuver around anything. That is the reason we had to move your electrical disconnect box to pass the inspection. Your right, it does leave a space were the old box was mounted. Paul Simao: I woke up one January morning to discover I had no heat. I called B&B and they sent out Cesar promptly. He quickly diagnosed the issue - the company that had installed my new furnace and AC 18 months earlier had run an uninsulated pipe from the condensate pump to the outside, which froze when temperatures dipped, cutting off my furnace. Cesar rigged up a temporary fix that provided me heat and then came back the next day with his colleague Melvin to sort out the permanent fix. It was all done quickly, professionally and with a smile. That's why I have a contract with B&B.

Lew Williams: I recently contracted Hugee Corporation to replace an aging Carrier unit with a High Efficiency (16 Seer) Goodman condenser, coil and humidifier. Brenda Pilgrim: Yesterday I called Hugee Corporation for their help in fixing my air condition unit that was not working. Around 9:30 a.m. this morning, the company dispatched one of their worker to my home, and upon checking the system, he was able to spot the problem right away. Kawytae Norals: I recently hired Hugee Corporation to come out and resolve my issue with my AC unit, as well as figure out why my 3rd floor was not cooling to my standards. They performed an assessment, and it was determined that I may need AEROSEAL, as well as a duck cleaning. Upon them starting and running the pre-aeroseal work, it was determined that that was not the issue, and the duct work was clean (honesty). It was later determined that I needed my AC unit serviced, as well as repair a rip in the duct work in the attic. Receiving honesty and integrity from a business goes along way in my book. It is one of the most important qualities when dealing with companies that you have never worked with before. I highly recommend them. Adam Fine: Worst customer service and transparency. It is impossible to get someone to even get back to me in a timely manner with a quote. It was simple enough to get a diagnostics visit set up (though they scheduled it for the wrong day by mistake). Then charged more than double what I was quoted for the diagnostics visit. Really unprofessional. Severe lack of transparency when it comes to quoting/billing. Do no recommend anyone uses this service until they drastically improve the way they do business. Pro Functional: Between being overcharged on more than one occasion, redundant diagnostic fees, breaking the heater while fixing the A/C, and then charging us to fix the heater that they broke, I felt compelled to share my experience with HUGEE Corporation. First, we must use HUGEE due to the fact that our home's HVAC unit was installed by them and is serviced by them per our home warranty terms. On 6/26/2019 we called HUGEE because our air condition was intermittently failing. It would not blow cold air consistently. HUGEE sent a tech and unfortunately, the system was blowing cold air at that moment. We were billed $125 for the diagnostic and $95 for the tech to literally just show up and tell us he can't do anything since it is working. We paid the $220. I agree that it's difficult to diagnose an intermittent problem. Bill paid. On 7/22/2019 the HVAC finally completely fails. They again charged us another $125 diagnostic fee + labor. I felt we had already paid the diagnostic fee on 6/26/2019 which resulted in nothing. Whats worse is this time they charged us twice for the labor since they sent two techs. Each tech accrued an hourly rate. What's odd is that the 2nd tech's job was literally holding the door open. I would have suggested using our door stopper. The techs were friendly and I was happy that the AC worked so left it at that. On 8/2019 our 2nd HVAC unit failed completely. Keep in mind that both HVAC units were installed by HUGEE. I called HUGEE and asked for an estimated cost to avoid being blind-sided. The lady on the phone explained it would cost $125 for the diagnostic fee and $90 per hour. They sent a tech who confirms that the HVAC had indeed failed and charged me a $125 diagnostic fee and says he'll need to order a part and install it on a future date. Fine, that's fair since he had to drive here. On 9/2019 the part finally arrives and HUGEE Corporation sends a tech to install it. Since I was told it was an hourly job I noted the start time and end time. The total time to complete the job was hour. But they charged us $425 for the visit when the 1 hour should have costed us $90. This was over 400% more than what they quoted us. When I asked why he said "That is just what my boss told me to charge". I called the office and the lady confirmed that she told us $125 for the diagnostic fee and $90 per hour. However, this time they had to charge $425 since the part was under warranty, which made no sense. This was not disclosed to us on the initial call or any time after ordering the part. At this point, I was annoyed but not compelled to write a bad review. It is now 11/5/2019 and in VA it's when it gets cold. We turned our HVAC unit to heat. We immediately noticed that there was no hot air. I reluctantly called HUGEE and again asked for a cost breakdown. The gentleman explained that it was now a $45 trip charge and $25 per 15 minutes. They send a tech out and this is the worse part of the experience. The last time HUGEE came out to fix the unit on 9/2019 they failed to secure a wire so it was loose. He pushed the wire in and the heat immediately started to work. I'm not an HVAC expert but I'd expect that testing for both heat and air/condition are required after replacing a core component. But they didn't. They billed us $209 for 1 hour. $125 for the diagnostic fee when they quoted $45 by phone. $80 for labor when they quoted $25 for 15 mins. When I pointed it out he immediately acknowledged it and said it was a mistake. I am not frustrated with the tech and don't fault him at all. Mistakes and miscommunication happen. I get it and can empathize. The tech was friendly and ultimately got the HVAC to work properly. And he connected me to his boss to figure out how to handle the transaction. It was the owner/"boss" of HUGEE who ultimately made the final call to make us pay for an issue they created, in addition to overcharging us almost double. You could also argue that the HVAC should've been checked for both heat and A/C after the repair on 9/2019. The heat was never tested until we tried to use it.

I brought a few service companies to look at it, and finally chose academy Heating and Air conditioning to do the work. Cindy Hsu: My husband and I bought a house with a 30 and a 20 year old AC units and old furnaces and water heaters. They came in to do quick review of the units/areas and recommended the best affordable solutions to replace all of the units and water heaters. It took them 2 days to come in, take out the old equipment, install the new units including new duct work and replacing the old wrong duct work. They were efficient, knowledgeable and since then everything has been great!

Jerry, the salesperson, described everything that would happen and also came by at the beginning of the day and at the end to check on the work. We had four men working on the installation. Deborah Lathen: Jerry the sales person is most informative and describes exactly what they will do. I installed a new a/c that required the old one to be removed from the roof. They came on time did not make a mess and Jerry checked in on them. They did and excellent job and I would use them again and I highly recommend them. I only disagreed with Jerry on one point he hates the Nest thermostat and likes a honeywell digital thermostat. Stick with Nest and stick with Academy as long as they have Jerry.

Edward Bugash: My experience w/ Academy - H & A/C has been kind of like a roller coaster ride, way up, down very fast, slow back up, & nice pleasant sweeps & curves. Let me explain, very good & knowledgeable employees, both service & sales. Watch the sales for costly errors, which will be corrected but may turn you off, stick w/ them & work it out. (Mine was very complicated.) The service dept. is neater, quicker, better & smarter than most I've seen. In warranty work preformed w/ no hassle. I'd defiantly recommend Academy H&A/C to everyone.

Robert Kuehl: I called on a Monday at 8:30 am. Academy said they could be there between 11am and 3pm. I asked for a 30 minute call ahead so I could leave work and meet them at the house. Done, their call came at 10.40 am. I was instructed to try a couple of things after the tech checked things out and return call if these things did not fix the concern. Had to do a return call and this time the cause was found and a future date set. I am totally happy with all Academy and thier tech has done for me. They did exactly what they said they would do and all that I asked them to do and in a timely fashion. Great service and well done.

Richard Kline: You always hope never to need a HVAC contractor, but when you do, Academy is always there. Whether it is needing a new furnace in the dead of winter or a new AC in the midst of the hottest week of the summer (we've needed both in the past years) Academy was there to help.

Nick Doty: BUYER BEWARE!! Technically incompetent, shady business, and unresponsive customer service. Argent installed my new heating/cooling unit. Days after moving into my new build (with the new heating/cooling unit), insulation from my heat melted all throughout my heating/cooling closet releasing terrible fumes and nearly causing a fire. Fast forward a year and a half later -- my auxiliary heat (from my 1.5 year old HVAC unit) burnt out. Keep in mind, most HVAC systems have 10 - 20 year warranties. Argent sent someone out, said it needed to be replaced, and then I had to follow-up via phone 2 weeks later to get a status update. Darnella informed me the part was ordered and would be here in 4 weeks. During this time it was sub-30 degrees more than half of the time, with no heat. 4 weeks later, I called and was told the part had not been ordered. It would take another 4 weeks. Then Robyn took my call and said it had been ordered, but it would still take another 4 weeks *headscratch*.. really? Robyn informed me she would try to get the manufacturer and the distributer to cover the costs. 4 weeks later, I had to call again (because Argent doesn't know how to update their customers apparently), and was told it would be another two weeks at least. Robyn informed me the manufacturer, distributer, nor Argent would cover the parts or labor for the piece. All to say, I've wasted my time dealing with this incompetent company. There hasn't been one bright spot: their units, the installation, and the people are all faulty, incompetent, and rude at best. Don't waste your time! Seek HVAC services elsewhere! Michael Stanton: Huge thanks to Johnny and JP on their installation of our two new Navien tankless water heaters, sump pump and water filtration system. The process working with Johnny was efficient from initial quote to installation zero surprises. We received clear instructions on how to use the new system (which has minimal maintenance!) and we greatly appreciated the clean manner with which the team worked in our house including the tidy equipment installation. This is our first time using John C. Flood and we are incredibly please so far. I would highly recommend the team for HVAC, plumbing, tankless water and water filtration installation.

Daniel Sharp: We recently contacted Sila to troubleshoot a ductless mini-split system that they installed for us in 2019 that we noticed wasn’t cooling properly. The technicians successfully identified a refrigerant leak which was from a faulty component covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. After replacing the leaking coil, the technicians (who were otherwise great) couldn’t find the invoice or an estimate for the work and told me they’d have to make a phone call. Minutes later I was surprised that we owed $3,275.00 for the labor of replacing the coil. I verified with the technician that the part was covered under warranty and that we had already paid for the work to find the leak (which was $1,482). He shrugged telling me that is what his boss told him to charge. The invoice we were sent provides no work breakdown or itemization that would explain why we were charged so much; roughly 3x what we’ve paid for similar work in the past. We’ve called Sila multiple times to make sure there wasn’t a mistake on the invoice and each time are told that someone will call us back; which has yet to happen. So in all we paid Sila nearly $5,000 to replace a part on a unit that they installed 3 years ago, that is covered under manufacturer’s warranty. This experience has been especially disappointing, because we've been loyal customers to this company since moving here years ago. I’d like to believe that this was a misunderstanding and not price gouging, but I can’t seem to get anyone on the phone to discuss it with us. Service: Ductless heating & A/C services

Heather Brunt: This is an awful experience to pay $149 the tech that came out. Carlos did not properly diagnose the unit. Didn't know what he was talking about said that the unit was overcharged. The AC compressor was leaking oil. No visible signs of that at all. I asked him to leave. I called another cup company. The company came out. Found out that all it was to repair my AC after being without air conditioning and 80 to 90° weather for a couple days It was a loose connection. All it had to do is being a tightened up and the company was so nice after the experience that I told them that I had with this company that he did not even charge me. This company is a joke. Don't waste your money and the reviews that they got rating five stars has to be their employees. Company told me Carlos told me it would cost me $9,000 for a new compressor. Ridiculous. I will never use this company again...... Service: A/C system maintenance
