Gearin' Up Bicycles: what do users think?
M B (M B)
M B (M B): Had a great experience here! I went to one of their Saturday bike sales and was able to find a nice bike with the help of the staff! They also have a shop that you can go to for bike maintenance and to learn skills from the staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good bike in DC.
Brandon Sousa
Brandon Sousa: Really happy with my experience here. I had a flat and they addressed it immediately, I was back on the road in 5 minutes. Reasonable prices, I think I paid $40 total for the tube, the tube change, and a new tougher tire, hopefully keeping the bits and bobs out of my ride.
Grant Sexton
Grant Sexton: Had several things fixed on my old Schwinn Traveler. The price for repair was great, and the customer service was as well. They gave me a very down to earth explanation of some of the problems on my bike too, which I appreciated because I often have trouble tracking with “bike guys.”
Aurora Williams
Aurora Williams: Love that this in an option in our community. Very affordable, professional, and quick service. Was in and out with a fixed bike within 30 minutes. Very happy to make the trek and support this organization.
Bryce McKibben
Bryce McKibben: Awesome place to stop in for a quick repair. Got a flat and came in around 4pm, and it was done in 30 minutes. Amazing prices, too. Will be coming back here again!
Nastacia Moore
Nastacia Moore: The guys are so friendly and knowledgeable. I brought my bike in same day and they fixed it on the spot. I highly recommend this place.
Diana Nguyen
Diana Nguyen: Just after moving to DC, this is where I bought my trusty bike. I was received with great energy and just overall amazing service. They helped me out on fitting me with a bike, describing the details/repairs of said bike (ie Shimano STI shifters, hieght adjustment, etc.), etc.. By far the nicest bike I ever did buy. You know I really love it here because I ended up naming my bike, Keith.
Cale Magruder
Cale Magruder: these guys are awesome. hooked my friend up with a new bike cheap, and tightened up a loosening crank on my bike for free. great people :-)
Zbigniew Kostrzewski
Zbigniew Kostrzewski: Fantastic shop and mission! Quick affordable and pleasant service! Highly recommended, well worth some travel easy street parking! All in on this shop and its mission.

Big Wheel Bikes: what do users think?
Kaya B
Kaya B: We had a very good experience with Big Wheel Bikes in Georgetown on 33rd. The people are especially helpful, competent, interesting to chat with and have a great sense of humor. The quality and variety of the bikes was good for us, the rental helmets were good quality and sanitized, and the locks were not wimpy. The location in G-Town is near lots of cafes and shopping, a nice part of town. Close to nice bike paths along the canal and then connecting for longer rides in several directions. It is a 20-30 minute ride from the Shop to the National Mall and all Iconic DC museums and sights. Will rent bikes from these guys again when we are in town!
Michael Baskin
Michael Baskin: Awesome, unpretentious and caring shop - mostly catering to walk and ride ins, Isiah in there will help you with your bike often for no charge and help show you a thing or two, too. Repairs without bike shop ego. Stopped in for a rubbing disc brake, walked out with a happy brake 5 minutes later and a better understanding of mineral oil With friends in town, have rented from them in the past - easygoing all set.
Nathaniel Christian
Nathaniel Christian: My experience renting from this place was poor. One of the employees is pretty rude and curt and he doesn’t seem overly concerned about the quality of customers’ experiences. The bike that I was given was not in great condition—some parts fell off when I hit a bump in the road and the black dye or coloring of the seat came off onto my pants and ruined them. Overall, I would not recommend renting from them. Find another business that keeps their bikes in better condition and is more attentive to customers.
Luka More
Luka More: I rented a mountain bike for a few days and was extremely disappointed. The website said they had full suspension bikes but when I got to the store they did not have them. The worker was very rude and Disrespectful. The bike I was given had more broken parts than working. The shifting was a mess and the brakes felt like they had never been serviced. Stay away from this bike shop.
Michael Bollom
Michael Bollom: A small bike shop right on the C and O Canal path. While the bike I rented could have been in slightly better tune, these guys get five stars from me because they helped me out even though they were closed for some renovations. Thanks!!
Paul C
Paul C: Walked by this shop and saw they weren’t busy. Dropped in since I had a few spare minutes between appointments. I explained that my wife’s Catrike had lost a rear fender mount bolt. I had no idea the size, but he guessed correctly. He refused to let me pay for the couple of bolts he gave me. Nice guy. I’d come back here just to deal with someone who knows how to take care of people.
James Clift
James Clift: I ordered a bike at the beginning of the pandemic (early 2020) knowing that it was going to be heavily delayed due to shipping issues. The bike never came and despite multiple follow-ups and promises (in-person visits to the Georgetown and Falls Church shops, multiple emails, and even a phone call with the owner), I was never given a refund. Last follow up was an email by a store employee *to the owner*, August 2021; no word back. Incredibly unprofessional, dishonest, and rude. Does this not amount to thievery?
Joshua K
Joshua K: Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, ValueOutstanding customer service! I got a flat on the C&O Canal and could not find the leak in my tube. Walked my bike up to their shop, Ilya and Dillon had other customers in the store, but still worked with me right away to replace my tube. Thanks again! Would recommend them to anyone!
Temuulen Bulgantsogt
Temuulen Bulgantsogt: Although the response was a little slower than I was expecting, I got my bike just 3 days after I ordered online. The employees were very kind and helpful. I am very pleased with my purchase.

The Old Bike Shop: what do users think?
Jackie Laurell
Jackie Laurell: Today we visited to get a bike, and the staff was so knowledgeable and helpful. I really don’t know much about bikes, and they were able to help me and my boyfriend pick ones that were perfect for us. The only thing to know is that they only take cash, check, or pay pal. It was great to support a local business and to be sustainable by shopping for refurbished bikes.Thank you guys, an awesome small business!
Cj Kiernan
Cj Kiernan: They got me set up with a great bike. I ended up getting the extras from Amazon but the bike itself was pretty much half price of the new model ($460). One of the guys walked around and showed me a couple of bikes that fit my size and style. He let me try it them out but was immediately sold to this Giant bike. They appear to have a great selection on sizes and genders of bikes at good prices. If you’re just in the market for some clean and barely used bikes this is the place to go.
Ed Gordon
Ed Gordon: Brought my bike in for Service. They were friendly and knowledgeable and looked over my bike right away. They were able to make some adjustments and small fixes and send me on my way. They made me a happy customer and I will be back. I 100% recommend them. Note: they do not take credit cards.
Gabriela Kock
Gabriela Kock: I took my bike a week ago for a tune up and mentioned a problem with gear shifting. I got my bike back but that problem was not resolved. I called the owner and he asked that I return the bike to have it fixed. I did not go right away and he followed up and called me! he wanted to make sure my bike was serviced correctly. Took my bike back he had it fixed and I also asked to have a bike rack installed that I purchased from them. Super happy with their service and follow up!
K Johnson
K Johnson: I found them online, and called with an inquiry. They were bizarrely rude on the phone. Out of curiosity, after the stunning call, I checked their reviews to see if (and in hopes that) I had an atypical experience. "Condescending" was the wording another reviewer used. That sums it up completely. Like, WHY?
Denise A
Denise A: Great bike shop! Super nice people, very helpful and informative! Good prices on tubes!
Juan Fernando Arias
Juan Fernando Arias: Staff rude! No interest in guiding or solving more than two questions, maybe the scenario is different when you are buying a bike, otherwise avoid this place if you are new to biking.
nadjma Ramadan
nadjma Ramadan: First , I have to say that their customers service is excellent. Second , their prices are affordable and they will work with you. Third , the employees and the owner are so nice and helpful that you just want to come and hangout with them at the store. I bought my first bike with them, it was a hybrid. I am back (Nov 20th) to finally get my road bike and I am really please again with my experience. I love to support small businesses cause they care about keeping their customers happy and want them to come back.
Trudy Hall
Trudy Hall: Excellent place to purchase a great used bike and get exceptional service. These guys are bike gurus. Carl will listen, ask a few questions and pull out a couple of bikes for you to try out. Each a perfect fit!!! Love this place. Got a great deal on used bike and now looking to go back to purchase another bike. They do a great job on service too. Bikes are their passion. Cash only but ATM across the street.

Trek Bicycle Washington D.C. Georgetown: what do users think?
Sam Brecker
Sam Brecker: I came in for a lifetime warranty claim and it was handled flawlessly. They were super responsive by phone and email. Dropped it, they took a quick look, and corporate responded within a day. Only took about 3 weeks to get the replacement back and team handled all my accoutrement properly and answered all my questions. Trek remains to be a good brand for me!
mark Minich
mark Minich: had a great experience dealing with Adam Fulcher at Trek Georgetown store. Adam was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient with my time. I was able to purchase two bikes and arrange to have them shipped to me all in the course of one phone call. I highly recommend Adam and the Trek GT store for meeting your cycling needs.
Hector Moreno
Hector Moreno: Great selection of bikes. Knowledgeable and respectful staff. Shout out to Jerrick for his help.
Perry Spring
Perry Spring: Needed a long overdue tune up on my marlin 6 and Will was incredibly helpful and quick in servicing my request. The bike is riding as if it is brand new and I could be more appreciative of the time and effort that went into it. Thank you guys!
Michelle Olenoski
Michelle Olenoski: I love this Trek store. I bought a bike here in 2003 when I first moved to DC and the bike is still amazing and in great condition. I am thinking of upgrading soon and plan to come back to this same store.
Carl Mitchell
Carl Mitchell: The best bike shop in the city hands down! Every bike here is literally a work of art, and if there is an issue of any kind, they make it right. My household alone is on our 3rd road bike from this store and they fix our non Trek bikes as well. Now if I can only convince my lady the whole family needs mountain bikes😅
Michael Belarmino
Michael Belarmino: Great experience - they performed my tune-up in the time as promised, and very thorough in describing what my bike needed. I went for a ride right from the store and felt like new!

Conte's Bike Shop: what do users think?
Sergey Zvezdov
Sergey Zvezdov: Fantastic place, people and service! I am so happy that I got this place recommended for my cycling needs. I have a very specific and not common bike fitting requirement. Team handled it super well, easy and with great amount of details. I like professionalism of the team and easy communication. Since the fitting, 2 more bike maintenance requests were handled by the team. This is my place to go now in greater Charlotte area, even though I am far away from them. Thank you Conte team and special thanks to Andrew Lerner!
Response: A good bike fit is so important to enjoying your bike. We're so happy to have helped you along your journey and hope you get miles and miles of happy riding!
John Willis
John Willis: Good honest people always willing to help. My partner and I have a couple of e-bikes and Conte’s has been a fantastic maintenance hub over the last year. They keep you riding year round. Kudos Conte’s, you’ve earned a loyal customer.
Darrel Perez
Darrel Perez: Went in for a quick "squeak-out" treatment on the brake discs and they came out serviced like new and in less than 15 minutes for a moderate price. All the staff is professional, knowledgeable, and friendly but Scott is the best, he provides timely service and complete information on the work performed and maintenance tips to keep your bike tuned up and road-ready. Thank you guys!
Angela Fogg
Angela Fogg: Excellent customer service. We went to get a bike repaired and they helped us find an e-bike that was a better fit. Everyone was helpful and no one was pushy. We walked around the store for a while at our own pace and asked questions many questions. Like I said great service.
Jay Sweeney
Jay Sweeney: This place is absolutely fabulous. Very helpful when I bought my new bike and just replaced a punctured tube for me smoothly and quickly as can be. Am new to biking and very glad I found this shop!!! I just got another flat. UGH! Second in a month, but Conte was great again! Very helpful and fast service. Glad I had the new bike protection plan. Shop really makes me want to keep on biking.
Response: Thanks for the review, Jay! Enjoy your biking journey and know we are always here for you.
Shawn “I_DRINK_MY_JUICE” D
Shawn “I_DRINK_MY_JUICE” D: I don’t normally do reviews unless I had a bad experience somewhere but Liz that took care of my bike fitting @ Conte at the Navy Yard location was the absolute bomb. Not only was she the bomb but everybody in the store was great!! The Arlington Va store was great and now great service @ the Navy Yard location. Couldn’t ask for more!!!
Response: So happy to hear this. Thanks for your review, Shawn and we hope your new bike fit give you miles of happy riding!
Jordanb Barrera
Jordanb Barrera: Great service while I was there to fix my bike. Got a new tube installed and Jack (the person that was helping me out) was great, fast service and did a great job too. Would definitely recommend going to Conte’s Bike Shop.

Abigail B.Y.
Abigail B.Y.: I bought a Retrospec bicycle online and had a hard time putting it together, I called the company, and they suggested that I take my bike to Phoenix bicycles for Assembly, glad I did! Drop off was easy. I got a text message when it was ready, and the gentleman who checked me out helped me load the bicycle to my car. He also made sure that the seat fit my liking and that I was pleased with the assembly. Before my visit, I had called the shop several times to reschedule my appointment, and in each call, they were gracious and kind to me. I took my bike on the road yesterday, and I have no complaints.
Response: Thanks for the great review, Abigail! We're so glad you had a great experience at our shop. Happy riding!

Plus I feel like my money is going to a good cause.

City Bikes Adams Morgan: what do users think?
Lee Jones
Lee Jones: Went here today for what I thought was going to be an expensive replacement of my gears/cables. The tech Esteban was AMAZING. He knew exactly what to do and fixed it super fast and figured I didn’t need expensive replacement at all. Really great experience all around and would definitely recommend! Also appreciate how friendly they.
Lewis Preston
Lewis Preston: I commuted by bike for many years, year round. Regular maintenance at City Bikes has kept my bike in great working order, helped me get around reliably, and helped me get a ton of use out of the same bike. The mechanic is great and very efficient!
Spencer Barks
Spencer Barks: Esteban was knowledgeable, kind and easy to talk to. I came in after hours and he helped me get everything on my bike squared away in an efficient and timely manner. Really appreciated his help especially when they were scheduled to close.
Jennie Boocock
Jennie Boocock: Great service! I came in today for a hand-me-down bike to get checked out. Esteban was so helpful and attentive, taking time between projects to help me out and answer my questions. Will definitely choose this spot for all future bike needs!
John Kostyack
John Kostyack: These folks always do a great job helping me keep my bike running smoothly. Mark, in particular, is really knowledgeable and friendly. Reasonable prices.
Response: Thanks, I'll pass this along to Mark, VR kyle@citybikes.com
Paul Challan
Paul Challan: I had a tricky issue with my chain ring and took it in to City Bikes. Estaben and Mark were able to take care of me right away. They were friendly, and knowledgeable and were able to get it fixed right away so that I could get back on more ride in the beautiful weather. Thanks guys!
Simone
Simone: After having a lot of difficulty with the gears on my bicycle, I decided to give City Bikes in AdMo a try, and I am so glad I did! Esteban was able to help me with my issue in what felt like 5 minutes flat. Not only was he extremely helpful and approachable, but he also made sure to refresh my tires at the end of the visit. Would definitely recommend Esteban and CityBikes!
John Gracely
John Gracely: Visited the shop to have a headset/fork installed (crown race put on, integrated bearings dropped in, steerer tube cut). Was quoted a price from tenley town location then quoted three times that amount by the Adams Morgan location. And was told it was complicated and would take a few days. Offered to simplify it for them and just have crown race put on and steerer tube cut. They agreed to that and it could be done by the next day for the same 3x original quote price. Ultimately ended up canceling the service and just did it myself at home as the price being requested was comparable to the cost of the tools needed to complete it. I appreciate their flexibility in letting me cancel my service request. I’m sure they would have done a fine job as it’s ~ 20 minutes of work with the correct tools and not complicated. Weirded out by the inconsistent service pricing between locations as It seemed it was just being made up on the spot. Mechanic was arrogant when I asked about that and just cited “specialized bike tools” Would definitely return to get the odd tube or cable but their service prices at least for the Adams Morgan location are pretty steep and staff could try to be less arrogant.
Patricia Davis
Patricia Davis: Took my bike in on Sunday, and they replaced my inner tube in an hour. Guy was super friendly. I have purchased three bikes from these guys, and I am always happy with them.

Conte's Bike Shop: what do users think?
Emmalynn “Big Gurl Lady E” Sharf
Emmalynn “Big Gurl Lady E” Sharf: For starters I wish I could give zero stars. I came back a week later to find out the refund from a bike I was interested in and put money down that Contes never refunded the money. Then in turn which meant I had to travel back to their store to see what was going on. Now the second time finally I got my refund. Then I went got my son a little bike as pictured below and I wanted to see how much it would cost for assemble the clerk labeled the bike as child single speed which is not correct and wanted to charge 3x times the amount then the bike being worth which is $26.99. For a parent to get this bike and then to take advantage of a women or a mother like that as a single parent is crazy when the clerks knew it would not take long to assemble. Look at google and you will see what a single speed children bike will look like. This bike below does not look like a single speed kind of bike at all. Never again shopping with or at Contes.
Response: Hi, Emmalynn. We take 100% responsibility for what happened here. We made an honest mistake in processing your return and we apologize for that. It may not look like it, but some of these children's trikes take a significant amount of time to assemble, so we have typically charged our "single speed" build rate as they both take a similar amount of time to complete. Knowing the issue you had with your return, we should have done a better job working with you on this item and again, we apologize for that. If there's anything we can do to win your business back or if you'd like to discuss this further, please reach out to d.rodgers@contebikes.com. Thank you!
Jeremiah Johnson
Jeremiah Johnson: My bike is literally better after having had it serviced in Cathedral Heights Conte than when I got it directly from the factory. The store manager and Noah were extremely helpful and patient. They are customer service centered bike experts.
Response: Thanks, Jeremiah! Hope to see you again soon!
Fred
Fred: Wonderful service… Joe and the team are true professionals. Prompt, efficient, and very courteous - they kept me posted on the status of a repair and stayed open late so I could pick up. Best bike shop in DC hands down!
Response: Thanks so much, Fred!
Justin Miller
Justin Miller: I bought my son’s birthday bike here. The team was very helpful and supportive. Great communication, no ego, and patient. The mechanics added customizations that I requested, and had the bike ready for me a day later. My son was so happy with his new bike. Can’t praise or thank Conte Tenley enough. And for dad, I saw a bunch of great gear I want to add to my kit, so we’ll see you again soon!
Hope Neyer
Hope Neyer: Had a great experience with a quick trip through Contes today. Both of the young men who helped me were pleasant, helpful and not condescending, which isn’t always true for women in bike shops. Reasonable prices and pretty good inventory, even with pandemic shortages. Super convenient to where I live, too. Thank you Contes!
Response: Happy to be there for you, Hope! Thanks for the review.
dagboh
dagboh: I had a sub-par experience at this shop when trying to get my bike assembled. I was told on two different occasions that it was ready. When I showed up the first time, my bike wasn’t assembled, and when I showed up the second time, they assembled someone else’s bike instead of mine. Beyond that, when I visited, it seemed like I was burdening the staff. Nobody came and asked me what I needed until I approached them, but they seemed fine approaching other customers. When I called about when my bike would be assembled, the person who I talked to (I think his name was Wayne?) seemed quick to silence me with an answer, which ended up being wrong. I enjoyed the service from the Conte’s Bike Shop in Navy Yard more. The person there was quick to help me fix the flat I had on my old bike and even did it the same day right as the shop was closing at 6pm. He was a friendly person (young Black male with glasses) who gave me some tips on how to maintain my bike, and even fixed the tension on my chain for free. I thought this service would be the same at the Conte’s Bike Shop on Wisconsin which I why I went there to get my new bike assembled. It seems I was wrong. When it comes to the labor, the bike was well-assembled and they installed the custom parts I ordered with the bike, which is why I’m still giving a 3-star review. They didn’t install the reflectors on my bicycle though, which is concerning. Edit: Not only did the aforementioned happen, but the pedal on the bike came undone on my first long ride! Was clearly because it wasn’t tightened enough... now the insides are stripped. Come on.
Killian Cervino
Killian Cervino: I really enjoyed getting my bike fixed here the employees are very fun to chat with and create a super welcoming environment!
Peter Jost
Peter Jost: Knowledgeable, friendly and courteous staff made buying a new adult “comfort” bike a most pleasant experience.

Conte's Bike Shop: what do users think?
Simulation (MorningStar)
Simulation (MorningStar): The only reason I am giving this place any stars is because of the great customer service. But I’ve reviewed another location and almost gave this place the same energy. Honestly regret giving this place a chance based of other locations. I just don’t understand how I’ve brought several bikes with mainly the same issue… bottom bracket or lock ring. It’s like they can’t tighten bolts correctly. The only good repair I had was them making sure my handle bars didn’t move. But when it come to a lock ring. This place sucks, I mean yeah I ride fixed, yeah my bike has no brakes. But why is the rest of the bike a safety concern. Ohhh because kids working on bikes older than them. Yeah this place has seen the last of me after this last issue which was dangerous considering how and where I ride. I won’t allow this place to kill me
Response: Hi, Kamaal. First off, thank you for your kind words about our customer service. We're happy that doesn't go unnoticed. We all know that a bike messenger's bike can be put through the wringer. Things break frequently. Good quality components will help avoid this. If you would like to speak to one of our stores about installing some good quality components that can take The use that a bike messenger puts on a bike, we would love to be able to help you out. We can recommend the best products that will be the most durable for you. Hope you'll give us another chance!
Brent Nussbaum
Brent Nussbaum: I now know first hand why Conte’s was chosen as America’s #1 bike shop by NBDA. After attempting to work with several other bike shops in NOVA, the Falls Church Conte’s team was the only shop that invested in me as a customer and went out of their way to work with a bike manufacturer they didn’t even have a contract with at the time. The provided with with updates on their efforts and eventually successfully helped me with getting this beautiful new frame. They communicated the shipping details, checked in during the wait time and notified me the day it arrived to the shop where I was able to inspect it right away. I easily scheduled the frame swap and they finished the swap in the same day that I took the old frame in. I couldn’t be happier with this experience and the service they provided me. I now look forward to riding with the shop during their group rides. I highly recommend Conte’s if you’re considering a new purchase or in need of bike maintenance.
Response: Thank you so much, Brent! This is an amazing review and really helps our team know their hard work doesn't go unnoticed. Thanks again and see you soon!
James Watson (Jimmy)
James Watson (Jimmy): I go there to get my bike fixed and they always do a great job. Keon is always extremely helpful and tells me what’s needed, he assist me in the most professional manner and does great work on my bicycle. Their music selection is just as good as the service. Thank you to the staff at this shop, every experience I have is a great experience!
Mike Crockett
Mike Crockett: Great experience overall. The folks working here are honest, hard-working and helpful. I just needed a tune-up on my bike and looking online I decided I needed the Annual Service. After going in and talking to one of the employees, he actually told me it was unnecessary based on how good the condition the bike was still in, so I opted for the less-expensive Semi-Annual Service. In addition, they got the bike serviced two days ahead of schedule. These are good people who actually prioritize customer needs instead of making a quick buck. Highly recommend
Reda ABOUTAJDINE
Reda ABOUTAJDINE: I was already using their outside installed pump, which allows customers to access it even when the shop is closed, so I already had a good opinion, but my experience replacing an air chamber further convinced me. Great service, I especially appreciated pricing the transparency (I was given an estimate beforehand). Overall, very helpful and polite staff.
Chris Marker
Chris Marker: Stopped in on a whim because I was riding down Q st and I needed some chain lube. In the process of showing me how to properly lubricate the chain, the mechanic discovered that my back wheel was (badly) off kilter and was able to get it quickly fixed while I went and got some lunch. Fantastic service!
Estelle Dauchy
Estelle Dauchy: I love this shop and I feel so glad that they are conveniently located, not far from Dupont or Logan. I was helped by Emily, who is super knowledgeable and professional. She obviously knows the variety of bikes and their features, and asks the needed questions to assess how we relate to our bike, in order to provide the best and most fitting advice. This is my second nike bought at Conde (with the store service warranty). My first bike was unfortunately stolen after 8 months. Emily helped me find my new bike and advise me on the best way to protect it from theft. The whole Conde team is very professional, and helped me add the additional parts that I needed on my new bike. I highly recommend the Conde store.
Response: Thanks so much for the review, Estelle! Happy to have you as a customer.
Jesse Zukerberg
Jesse Zukerberg: The employees at this Conte’s location we’re not knowledgeable. Further, they worked very slow and didn’t not display customer service. I do not recommend this shop if you want quality service in a timely manner. The Cathedral heights location is always good though.
Response: Hi, Jesse. We apologize for your experience with us in Logan Circle. Unfortunately you stopped in when we had just two employees working in the shop and we weren't able to stop the other tasks we had in progress to get your bike worked on and get you back out the door in a matter of minutes. We look forward to welcoming you back at any of our locations.

Griffin Cycle Inc: what do users think?
David Lipscomb
David Lipscomb: Griffin has made it easy and worry-free to own & commute via an electric bike. When I was shopping for an e-bike 2 and 1/2 years ago, I almost went the online route -- since there were/are cheaper, well-reviewed options out there. Fortunately, I realized I needed a reliable, local shop if I was going to sustain my move to bike commuting, beyond the purchase. For the past 2+ years -- even during the pandemic -- the staff at Griffin has supported me with tune-ups and tons of advice. Love walking in to that place. Great people.
Bernard Wagman
Bernard Wagman: They were extremely helpful in fitting me with a new bicycle and gave a great follow up service. I have recommended them to others and plan to bring my family back in for more bicycles. Their service department is excellent as well. Very fair and accommodating
Steven Tender
Steven Tender: Great independent bike store. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Go there for bike service, you will not be disappointed. 💯🚴‍♂️
Anthony Lentine
Anthony Lentine: Every time that I go there, I get help, good advice and quick service. Last time I was having trouble with my right shifting mechanism that I have never experienced. Bert took my bike and with the cold weather, the grease was so thick the shift would not engage; a new one for me. He quickly fixed the defect and I was on my way. The store is a true warm spot for all levels of cyclist. Thanks for being there!
Frank Pawlicki
Frank Pawlicki: the bike rental was handled very professionally. the bike was prepped with the proper SPD peddles when i arrived to pick the bike up, i was fitted, and given directions regarding local cycling routes. the bike performed well through out the week averaging 40 miles a day on the local ride routes. bike return was handled equally well. One issue that did come up was the lack of a flat kit with a pump or CO2 for refilling the flat tire, turns out it was a new employee education issue. it was a great experience.
Jacques Taty
Jacques Taty: Great staff.. highly knowledgeable, patient, friendly and extremely professional.I recommend them strongly. We are a biking family of 4 and Griffin is our one stop shop for everything bike related.
Diane Weil
Diane Weil: I have been a customer at Griffin Cycles for years. They have always had great customer service and do an excellent job with bike repair service. Recently I ordered a small top tube bag that had to be specially ordered from a store in California because the company is no longer widely distributing them, and they were "right on it !" Thanks Griffin Cycles ! Diane Weil Bethesda, Maryland
Valerie Rouxel-Laxton
Valerie Rouxel-Laxton: Hi! I love my bike and cycling has become a second nature to me. Whenever it needs a tune-up, Griffin cycle has been my go-to for a number of years. Service is top notch, folks are extremely courteous and I always walk out with great additional advice. Way to go!

Bike Club: what do users think?
dholmblad
dholmblad: Cannot recommend Bike Club enough. Had the derailleur hanger bend on a very sentimental 1990s carbon specialized. The owner was able to work his magic, replaced the derailleur and fixed the hanger. Before I walked out he made sure the shifting was smooth and dialed in. Thanks!
Chuck Baier
Chuck Baier: Bike Club is a one of a kind bike shop! It is a one man shop and you need to approach Phuoc, the owner, at the right time and in the right way to get positive results. If you rush in, start rapidly firing off questions, and making demands, Phuoc is likely to dismiss you and recommend you look elsewhere for needs, often rudely. However, if you stop in, sit down, and make some friendly small talk, then he will dig what you need out of his cavernous shop, fix you up, impart some insightful wisdom to you about human nature, elicit a few belly laughs, and get you back on your way. You will then have a friend who will remember you even when you come back 3 years later, as he did with me. If you’re bringing your bike in for service, the question is not whether Phuoc can fix it but if he wants to fix it. Therefore, don’t start off by telling him your opinion of the problem or how to fix it. God forbid, don’t start by arguing over 5 bucks based on your latest Google or Amazon search. Instead, just set back, ask for a beer while you wait, and let this Master perform his craft. And if you genuinely love bikes, don’t miss the opportunity to take the tour inside. Carefully navigate the pathways through the shop for a trip through the last 50 years of bicycle history. I’ve been in dozens of time and find something new to intrigue me each time. Bike Club is an absolutely unique Falls Church institution and Phuoc is indeed an endangered species. A trip to Bike Club is MUCH more genuine than the overpriced pro shops staffed with hipsters with a different sort of attitude. Good luck!! Pedal Power!!!
Alec Lee
Alec Lee: Horrible owner with rude attitude, don’t even think going in there. You will be traumatized after visiting this place and experiencing customer service for a long time. The owner is simply crazy, start yelling and cursing after simple questions. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone!
Patrick N.
Patrick N.: This is an old school bike shop, keep in mind, there is really no “customer service” you get to the shop, state what you want and proceed to either get your bike serviced or purchased. Pham goes out of his way to repair and sell these bikes, as strange as it sounds; he is NOT a salesman and doesn’t value taking too much time for window shoppers because he is a 1 man team mostly. So before you judge this shop like it’s a modernize shop with different department staffing and things like that; keep in consideration he’s doing well every thing he can effectively to run his own store, and he’s been in the business longer than you’ve prob been alive so he can tell a window shopper or someone who’s going to waste time off the bat.
Howard Stultz
Howard Stultz: I’m not sure how this guy stays in business. The first time I went there for a product he said he didn’t have any when I thought I saw what I needed on a shelf that would have been hard to reach. (One look inside the door and you clearly get the idea he’s a hoarder.). The second time I went there (on a Sunday) he was sitting outside talking to a potential customer. I waited until they were done because it was clear from looking at the doorway navigating the chaos would have been difficult. When it was my turn I told him I wanted to buy a bike. His reply was truly unusual (and rude). He said he didn’t have any bikes for sale and that they were closed... Huh? I get there’s a run on bikes these days, but you can look in the shop window and see he had some bike inventory. Needless to say, I’ll never go back and will spread the word about my experiences.
OneChance OneMistake
OneChance OneMistake: Store is very messy and cluttered with random things. Came to see a used bike that caught my eye before. It was in decent condition but dirty and the man wanted $250 for a bike that sells for $220 new. Told me he priced it high just because be assembled it, and is taking advantage of bikes being sold out everywhere during covid. Would not go here if youre looking for a bike. And the man smokes so much so bring a gas mask.
Response: Pretty sure he added disc brakes on it, thats been his thing lately. He has a knack for making bikes ride better. But yes th BC is not your average department store styled bike shop, some people likebthat. Ibprefwr an organis experiece, which is what you get at BC. its more like a museum. I enjoy the speediness, a couple hours at most unless you get there after 4, as opposed to the standar 2 week wait.

The Daily Rider: what do users think?
Saints Finders
Saints Finders: Awesome service. Got my bike working like new within the same day. Also completed safety checks and offered recommendations. Fair pricing.
Simulation (MorningStar)
Simulation (MorningStar): Finally a reason to review this location. I’ve tried this location I few years back when I first started riding track bikes. Immediately upon walking through the door, I was met with where’s your helmet? No hi, no can I help you… Followed with ohh and “ no brakes” I continued to shop. Every time I asked any questions pertaining to my new effectuation with bikes all together. Grunts and one word answers. Today is the last straw and it’s crazy because out of all the DMV bike shops. This one has never even been on my radar. With so many completely better shops only 5mins bike ride away. So only reason I called was to see if they were busy, because I had a small repair that just required a tightening of a lock ring, I was standing in REI(waiting). So I called, And upon picking up the phone I had explained this to them with detail. There was a slight pause… and the guy says, hey where are you calling from. Me- Wow! Did you hear anything I just said. Why are you concerned about anything other than my question. He says your caller ID, it’s Say you’re calling from The Simulation Short story… can you do this repair… Yes im calling from the simulation He returned with No sorry we can’t do it. 3 strikes and you’re out Daily Rider . Crazy I had received a gift card from a race. Never got to even use free money at your store. 🤡
Sam Goldgeier
Sam Goldgeier: This is a great bike shop to purchase a new bike or have your bike repaired. They are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to deal with!
Gregory Higgins
Gregory Higgins: Great bike shop. They have done tune-ups and repairs repairs to my bike multiple times. They also fix baby stroller wheels/tires!
Mark Sussman
Mark Sussman: .The Daily Rider has always given me A+ service ever since I became a customer 7 years ago (when I bought my Spot Ajax). Most recently, I needed a double kickstand for my bike in preparation for carrying my daughter on my bike. Not only did The Daily Rider give me an excellent recommendation based on my needs, they installed the part based on my scheduled appointment time and at the exact quoted price. I cannot recommend the Daily Rider enough!
Karen Ramsey
Karen Ramsey: I picked a bad replacement seat. They heard about it, researched saddles that would be a better fit for me, let me try them out, handled a return, and installed the new new saddle. Always prompt, polite & helpful and staff never make a casual but daily rider feel like they don’t know enough about bikes as other shops have. That’s why I go back & encourage others to shop there, too.

BicycleSPACE- Ivy City: what do users think?
Alex Martin
Alex Martin: Leave it up to the wonderful people of Washington DC to complain about “rude” behavior. Maybe like one dude in the back was a douche but at least he was an honest douche. If you appreciate radical honesty then this place is worth a visit. Also Justin new kid training had great insight to give when it came to my curiosity about fixed bikes. Last but not least the owner made absolute sure my bike fit my body size, far more than the competition ever did. Will send people to this location for sure.
Louise Pocock
Louise Pocock: I’ll preface by saying I’m not a bike head but went to this shop in my neighborhood after moving to DC because I wanted to make biking my primary mode of transport. These guys spent hours listening to what kind of bike I wanted and how I planned to used it and explained all my options and answered all my questions patiently and thoroughly. I not only bought a bike but learned a lot about bikes and how to take care of them. They got me set up with all the practical locks/lights/fenders etc for a very reasonable price. When I wrecked they fixed it right away and for free (no replacement part needed, just my fenders reattached). I have been back several times for other little things and they always help me right away and keep me riding. I love my bike shop!
Response: Thanks, Loise! We love taking care of folks & their bikes and glad we helped you integrate cycling into your daily life! Hope the next time we see you it'll be for a ride & not a repair!
Mike Carr
Mike Carr: Many bike shops are plagued with pretentious staff. This is NOT the case at Bicycle Space. The employees are all super friendly and helpful. As an added bonus their location in Ivy City is easy to get to from most parts of DC and there is almost always easy parking right out front. This shop also sponsors many fun bicycle events in the area, such as the Saturday Cupcake Ramble lead by Lionel!
Jessica Long
Jessica Long: I was in the market for a new bike for commuting and racing as I start to get into triathlon training. The staff there was very engaging, kind, and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend it!
Julia Lo
Julia Lo: As others have mentioned, slow service and poor communication. I came in for a quick/on-the-spot repair but halfway through the repair the bolt on my front derailleur broke off. I was told that the mechanic would take a look at it the following week to see if he could get the bolt off, or if we had to order a replacement. I checked in periodically and was often told that they would get to my bike and provide an update "later today" and "tomorrow". Long story short, my bike was at the shop a little over 3 weeks. I would have appreciated an honest and realistic time estimate from the beginning. My brakes, which were replaced during the visit, were also squeaky when It came back to me. I would return to the shop only to have the squeaking return after after a day or so. The mechanic often talked trash about REI, but in my opinion they have not proven to be any better.
Nick Webster
Nick Webster: BicyleSPACE is a wonderful, friendly, downtown bike shop. I stopped in to look around and a knowledgeable staff member took the time to show me around in a no pressure manner. When I am in the market for a new set of wheels, I will be in.
Marc Pulliam
Marc Pulliam: Not sure how they have 4 stars. These guys are very unprofessional. No type of customer service I call and ask if they sold bike pedals the response was were a. Bike shop how rude. Ordered a bike and had it shipped to be assembled which should had only taken a minimum of two days. My bike has been there over a week and all they can tell me is that they are backed up because there mechanic was tboned. They said they would follow up but I have not received any follow ups. At this point it will be faster to cancel my purchase and have a bike shipped to a different shop. No focus on customer service here don’t say you wasn’t warned

Mike Jones: Long time quality shop in DC, been going there since 1996 when I was a bike messenger and racer. Stopped in today to get some new cleats, and grabbed some energy gels, new gloves, and got a great deal on some aero water bottles from the manager Garrett. Got everything I needed for upcoming race quickly and with friendly helpful service. Thanks a lot!!
Humberto Murati
Humberto Murati: Last Saturday stopped by the shop to get the front tyre fixed. After a couple of miles the front tubeless Schwalbe had a pinched. Job was done perfectly. I was able to ride back to Old Town Alexandria, confident that the tyre will not be an issue. Thanks guys for the awesome friendly customer service and the great job fixing the tyre. Response: I am so happy we could help you out! Let us know if you ever need anything in the future, and keep up the good work on those frames! Keep an eye on this guy folks.
Michael Kelly
Michael Kelly: Bought from Giants website, shipped to the store and they were the most professional and courteous staff. Bike was built and ready to ride the next day. I would highly recommend getting a bike here, staff was knowledgeable and were extremely professional.
OSCAR CLONINGER
OSCAR CLONINGER: Technician Will White rocks! Friendly and didn’t lord over me with his knowledge. Don’ know about the other team members but I would go back and pay for Will’s help anyway! FYI: in and out in a jiff when I dropped my bike of: the shop wasn’t super busy when I dropped my bike off!
Alan Raeder
Alan Raeder: I stopped in the shop this past summer needing a specific chain tensioner for my single speed and Dave went above a beyond to get me set up with one. I was taking a rest day in the middle of a bike tour and working on fixing a few things on my bike. I visited/called more than 8 shops with no luck. I met Dave at Bicycle Pro Shop and after learning the shop did not have the part, he mentioned he had a used one at home. Later that evening, Dave met up with me and I got the part I needed to keep going the next day as planned. Really helpful and appreciated!
Andrew Moore
Andrew Moore: Absolutely great service from Garrett here. I’d been having an ongoing issue that another shop wasn’t able to identify or fix. It took Garrett minutes to figure it out and the bike is 100% again. Highly recommend.
Response: Andrew - Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. I look forward to your next visit at the shop. Enjoy the holidays!
fgjewett
fgjewett: Best shop in the DC area, I bought a road bike and had such a good experience that I bought a mountain bike there too. The staff are easygoing and knowledgeable; they are a great shop for the mid-to-High end merchandise. They’re not snobby or elitist like other high end places can be. Every purchase comes with a free fitting, which is a $100 value. They also provided free adjustments for a year which was great.
Response: Thank you for the review! I hope you're enjoying the bike!
Jimmy Russell
Jimmy Russell: We love the customer service very informative upfront and honest. Very impressed with the bike feels good rides smooth and good. Very light for a Hybrid Bicycle.
Response: Thank you for the kind words Jimmy! Please don't be a stranger if there's anything we can help you out with. Ride safe! Garrett

City Bikes Tenleytown: what do users think?
Pieter Wyffels
Pieter Wyffels: I usually go to the store in Adams Morgan (great people, great service), but my electric bike has special tubes which they did not have. So they suggested me to go to their other store in Tenleytown. There, Carlos helped me out. He did not have the right tubes either, but fixed my tire and showed me how I can do it myself a next time, with the tools I could buy at the store, which I did. He was super friendly, solution oriented and smiling all the time. Seems like City Bikes only hires passionate, friendly employees, in Adams Morgan and Tenleytown.
Response: Thanks Pieter, kyle@citybikes.com
Rosina Teri Memolo
Rosina Teri Memolo: I needed some work on my bike and they were awesome. Super helpful. I thought I might have needed a tuneup, but the mechanic was honest and said, “not yet.” So I got a MUCH NEEDED new saddle and some handlebar lights. Left me warm and fuzzy and they did it while I waited. Worth the drive uptown. Will return. THANK YOU!
David Happ
David Happ: Great people who stand behind the product they sell. Look these electric bikes are not cheap and when they break it Is good know that City Bikes Tenleytown has staff that really care about what they do! I had a warranty repair that was completed on time and properly by great people.
Michael Franzinger
Michael Franzinger: High service prices and questionable workmanship. After spending $500+ on a gear replacement and variety of other general repairs here, a spoke popped out on the very next ride. Coincidence? Maybe, but the timing is suspicious. I told the shop about this, and they proceeded to charge $135 for the spoke fix, which seems high even without considering the circumstances. About the only positive thing I can say about this place is that it’s open later than most bike shops in the area.
Response: Michael, sorry about your experience, shoot me an email when you are free. Thanks, kyle@citybikes.com
Hannah J
Hannah J: I’ve purchased two bicycles in 2022 here. First, the text option to reach staff members is excellent, I used it to schedule my bicycle pickup and purchase equipment. Second, the staff are all very helpful and give their experiences as well as the stated recommendations. Finally, I arrived a minute after closing and the staff went above and beyond to give me my bicycle, even though they were closing up the store.
Response: Thanks Hannah, we appreciate you, kyle@citybikes.com

Trek Bicycle Alexandria North: what do users think?
beyondTabu
beyondTabu: Was looking for a particular colour Marlin and no other locations had it in stock. Alexandria did and I was stoked! Staff really know their stuff and we’re very helpful. There’s also free parking which was convenient.
Beau Guidry
Beau Guidry: Really impressed with the support from Barb, Roberto, Oliver, and Mike at the Trek North Alexandria store. They showed up options, gave us tips, and just took overall great care of us. We went from knowing nothing about bikes to one week later completing a 25 mile ride with ease and confidence. Amazing experience, look forward to many more opportunities to ride.
Marc Moscatello
Marc Moscatello: This has been my LBS for over 20 years. Fantastic, knowledgeable staff who tend to remain constants and not turn over every few months. Absolutely love Spokes. Trek bikes just bought the Spokes chain and I hope they treat all the Spokes staff with the respect they have earned in our community, and the branding is the only aspect that changes.
Nicole Mullins
Nicole Mullins: The team gives perfectionist service every time. Furthermore, they always treat you like family. Lastly, don’t matter the time, if you visit and need something done immediately in that day, they will make a way to make your day and get it all completed. Therein, I recommend this Amazing Team to everyone. When you find superior customer service it’s a wonderful feeling when people care about putting you first. With warmest regards, Nicole Mullins
Kenji Bellavigna
Kenji Bellavigna: I was a little sad that Spokes is gone but it seems like Trek retained a lot of the same employees. The new equipment and layout of the service department is beautiful, they really spruced things up. The mechanics were all friendly and they did a great job truing my wheel on the spot with no appointment.
Michael Shaw
Michael Shaw: I took my bike in for service and was greeted immediately and received a great explanation of what needed to be done. Went back to pick up my bike and actually decided to trade my bike in and upgrade. Customer service was great and bike selection and staff expertise is above and beyond.
Michael Hochradel
Michael Hochradel: I bought a specialized Sirus X 4 from this location when it was still spokes etc. I called today to inquire about warrantee work from what I thought might have been an assembly issue done at the store several months ago. Staff here not only understood what I was asking for, but directed me to a published recall the manufacturer had not made me aware of, and helped me identify a reasonable course of action for what I needed to accomplish. Customer service above and beyond for a manufacturer no longer serviced by this location makes me wish I had bought a trek so that I can still come here for all my cycling needs.
Michael Getter
Michael Getter: Same great group of folks that used to work there while the store was called Spokes Etc. Knowledgeable, friendly, willing to help staff including internationally renowned wheel builder extraordinaire Bill Mould. Definitely recommend as shopping destination for your cycling needs as well as possible future shop rides, if Trek decides to host them.

Takoma Bicycle: what do users think?
Rahwa
Rahwa: Highly recommend this shop. While I wasn’t able to find something that worked for my needs, Bruce was patient, knowledgable, friendly and thorough while I explained to him what I was looking for and helping me select bikes to try out.
Eric Weissman
Eric Weissman: This is a great local, independent bike shop with an attentive, talented staff. I have been taking my multiple bikes here over the years for complete tune-ups and on-the-fly adjustments. Yesterday I had a bit of grinding as I was biking into town, stopped by, and one of the mechanics cheerfully checked things over, cleaned the chain, lubed the gear rings, and sent me on my way after just a few minutes, with a bike that worked perfectly. Even if I had to travel some distance to go there, I would.
Krishna Bhavithavya Kidambi
Krishna Bhavithavya Kidambi: I wanted a bike immediately and found this place online and went to see if they have any. I found one that I liked and they set it up in the next one hour and gave it to me. They were very friendly and they have nice collection. They said they do not have any riding groups though, which was disappointing. But the over all experience was pleasant.
Loren Shimanek
Loren Shimanek: Fast, friendly and affordable. Needed a quality bike in a pinch, and I walked away a happy customer. They offer a year of tune-up services and recommend a 30-day "break-in" tune-up. A trust worthy local business perfect for families with kids.
Brian Hopkins
Brian Hopkins: They do bike repairs but with limited hours. They still are open for retail. And they are amazing. Very quick, courteous, and professional.
Sam Allen
Sam Allen: Very helpful and technicians are helpful
Bril A
Bril A: Parking in back. Good prices for bike repair. Friendly service.
Ileana Schinder
Ileana Schinder: Amazing service. Huge selection of products... and the friendliest crew in town. I highly recommend them even during this crazy period. Bruce took the time to talk to me on the phone, assembled the bike and had it ready in a day. I highly recommend this shop.

Papillon Cycles: what do users think?
Kathryn Wiley
Kathryn Wiley: Highly recommend! I brought in my 4-year old Fuji road bike for a tune-up and they must have done some magic because it rides smoother than even when I got it brand new. Thank you for the amazing service!
John McVay
John McVay: I don’t trust anyone else with my bike! I’ve been going here since 2010 for bike repairs and have purchased two bicycles here.
Caroline Hoffmann
Caroline Hoffmann: I went in to discuss a bike I wanted to purchase and the shop talked me out of buying it after listening to what I was looking for in a bike. Then, they fixed up my current bike (which I’d been looking to replace), found me a better rear rack, and helped adjust all of the problem spots. It is now a joy to ride and although this isn’t the closest shop to me, I’ll be bringing my bikes here from now on.
Isaac Foley
Isaac Foley: I live down the street (so perhaps I’m geographically biased) and this is my go-to bike shop. It helps that I can walk my bikes there, but I feel lucky and privileged to have these guys mere blocks away. I’ve been cycling for over a decade and got into doing my own work a few years ago, but when I need tools and experience I don’t have this is where I go. When it comes to repairs and maintenance, I don’t think you can find better prices or more honest, up-front service in Arlington. Anyone with a bike built before 2000 I would recommend you bring it here if you need anything done.
Jeffrey D
Jeffrey D: Great location with very helpful staff - prices and bike repair services are very responsible.
Kevin Hein
Kevin Hein: Jeff was super helpful. Answered all my questions and gave me a great deal on a used Trek. Shop has a friendly atmosphere. I was able to trade in my old bike.
Stephen Lyon
Stephen Lyon: Great LBS. hooked me up with my BikeFlights shipment! Support local.
Donald Forest
Donald Forest: The staff and management of this bike shop are exceptionally attentive and skilled. Very good service at a very reasonable price. Their advice on my many bikes has saved me hundreds of dollars and time. I will not go to any other bike shop anywhere. Papillon Cycles beats all the overpriced shops hands down - service, quality, attention to detail - six stars!!!
