Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies: what do users think?

Alexiaa Jordan: Tangible skills are built here...more than other Ivy-league International relation schools. We all literally speak more than 1 language and can do economics and statistics in a realm where people believe pontificating is the only important thing. We do both... critically think and execute hard skills.

D L: SAIS and Georgetown are the big titans of international relations/political science/public service institutions in DC. SAIS has great faculty and talented students.

Andrew Sanders: One of the best institutions in the world for studying international affairs. Prepares students for top-level employment around the world

Alex Thorp: Excellent professional international relations school. My time as a graduate student here has been well worth it.

Close Up Foundation: what do users think?

Sara Gebhart: The Close-Up experience for student and teacher is a wonderful experience. I was hesitant because of covid restrictions but close-up had everything planned out with no down time for student or teacher programs. My students were able to take in the memorials and the majority of the museums with a lot of group discussion. All of my students had a good experience. As far as the teacher program went it was amazing! We went to two battle fields with guides who explained the battles so well you would have thought they were there. I have taken students four times to the program and have never had the same options on the teacher program. The close-up staff was so patient with all of my questions and concerns before and during the trip. Close-up is a great investment for students and teachers!!

Jackie Barrett: I Just returned from an amazing 16th trip with Students from Lawton High School. My Students always return with a newfound interest in Government and Civic Engagement. Their experience in DC is a once in a lifetime experience for my students! Close Up hands down is the best!

Kat Brown: My daughter had a wonderful time with Close Up! We are very thankful she was able to go on such an exciting trip, and was able to experience D.C. The only issue that came up was with food. They were given money to cover 4 meals, but were brought to expensive parts of the city to dine in. They were expected to use $12 per meal, but that would barely cover a decent sized meal for any teenager. She ended up having to use the small amount of spending money she had on her. Next time, I would hope you guys are able to solve issues like this and be more mindful about how expensive certain places are that you are bringing these students.

Lisa Chapman: My daughter did not enjoy her DC trip in early April 2022. Be aware that Close Up greatly over scheduled these kids and had them going from 7:30am - 10:00 pm with no breaks and no downtime. From 7-10pm they were required to attend mandatory workshops on subjects that my daughter had zero interest in, and was frankly too tired from the day to care about. Every night she phoned begging us to let her come home. These workshops should be optional - or better yet, why not have an after dinner student lounge where kids can relax and get to know each other? Other red flags: Close Up was supposed to supply 3 meals a day; out of the blue my daughter was given $50 for 4 lunches which is inadequate in DC; and, they had no idea where to go for a healthy meal and had to eat fast food. She was dreaming of salads! Finally, there was an alarming report of an employee being fired on day 1. Overall we were NOT impressed and will not recommend this trip to friends/family.

Cassie Olson: After having taken four groups of high school students to Washington D.C., I can honestly say Close Up continues to provide our students with a wonderful experience! They come home with a much greater understanding of our government, an appreciation for our history, and new friends from across the country.

Courtney Ann Kenney: As a teacher who has taken students on the Close Up trip for 12 years and counting, I can confidently say that it is a life changing experience for all involved. Every detail of the program is thoroughly planned out and the safety of participants is top priority. Students come away with not only seeing all of the sites of Washington D.C, but more importantly, knowledge of foreign and domestic issues facing the nation, the experience of engaging in courageous conversations and an increased desire for civic learning and political activism. I recommend the Close Up experience with enthusiasm and without any reservations. You will not be disappointed!

Georgetown University: what do users think?

Da-Wang Wu: I have several talented colleagues who graduated from Georgetown University, so I always want to visit this school. The campus is very beautiful, especially with the fall foliage. It’s a nice half-day trip to visit the university, the shopping area (mainly on M Street), the canal and the waterfront park.

Danny L: Must place to visit if you are visiting DC. Lots of things to do around the university. Great place for photography and sightseeing. Plenty of Restaurants around that area. You would love it.

David Gilbank: I fulfilled a lifelong ambition when I came to Georgetown to see where The Exorcist was filmed. I particularly wanted to throw my self down the stairs that featured in the finale. Obviously that could cause terrible damage, so I through a soft toy down instead. See photos. Its a brilliant beautiful neighbourhood. Well worth a visit.

Mj Dillenburg: Great graduation ceremonies! Except for the 95 degree heat and humidity....it was beautiful.

Russ Watts: Excellent university, superb perspective on the political realm, mindful about the Jesuit values.

Enric Piferrer Torres: We stopped for a quick walk around the university buildings, and it was worth it! It reminded me of Harry Potter somehow. Beautiful main building. We parked outside for free in a 2 hour parking (no meter). The neighborhood is beautiful too

Justin Ahearn: So charming and beautiful. Feel like I’m going to get culture of Washington DC and the people that I meet are great
