DC Center-Independent Living: what do users think?

Alicia Martinez: They will not answer emails or respond to the information request form on their own website. Very unhelpful when attempting to access services for a disabled individual.

Chris DeLorenzo: For a center run by and for disabled people, they sure don't seem to take people's access needs seriously. I went to them for a referral and told the case worker that I have phone anxiety. The case worker gave me the phone number of a practice to call--a number I had already found searching on my own--and provided no other way to contact the practice. When I finally worked up the courage to call the number I'd been given, the voice mail inbox was full. I told the CIL caseworker what had happened, and she never got back to me. Thanks for all your effort.

Josephine Haughton: I am in the area of relocating in life

Antonio S: Great place to join group

Mary rechtien: Looking to move there. Nice place alot of activities always going on.

Chelsea Tucker: Very nice place. Clean, staff are very caring. The residents are nice. Glad my grandfather is there.

Andrew Goods: Creative Minds School is located on the AFRH campus. Granddaughter attends.

christian Vicent ray: Good place to work at supervisor are very nice friendly and food are good

John Blumer: I live there.

Stephanie Miles: Very clean best spot run like a well oiled machine they DO not play games have all identification or you WONT get in.

Kenneth McCreary: What a peaceful and green location located in the middle of the bustling City. I think most visitors who are not visiting the soldiers' retirement home are coming here to visit President Lincoln summer cottage, as I did. But it is a beautiful discovery to see the beauty of this location, which is on a hill and you can even enjoy views of the Capitol building.

Michael Paysour: I have been a fitness center specialist contractor on this site for more than a decade. I am honored and humbled to walk amongst the vets of this great country. They are well taken care here and I want to do my part to keep their fitness center fully operational. For anyone that wants to give time volunteering; this is the place. I learn quite a lot working in the garden. Also, it is my favorite place to eat; the food is great.

Galen Johnson: I am very glad I went. There is little to see, as the rooms Lincoln frequently visited have no displays, but there is a quotation on the wall where he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.

RetroReclaimations Jen Benson: Visited Lincoln's Cottage with a small, homeschool group. Must say the Cottage was unknown to me and so glad I found it! Full of Lincoln history!! The leader of our group was phenomenal and able to adapt her lessons/lectures to All ages 5 to 40!! Fantastic and haunting experience. To imagine the soldiers on the lawn, Lincoln being able to hear the battles in nearby Virginia....chills. If you are looking for an authentic experience, visit Lincoln's Cottage, his presence can be felt hear more than anywhere in the city.

Greenleaf Senior Center: what do users think?

F. Bryan: It smells bad first. Then the upkeep of the building is horrible. The whole building needs to be gutted and redone. Elderly and disabled people live there and they won't do anything to help the tenants. Black stuff comes out the heating vents, elevators break down all too often and they want the disabled and elderly tenants to clean the hallways. When my disabled mother asked if someone could clean the hallways on her floor I was there and heard them tell her "It's your floor right why can't you keep it clean. I keep the halls and the yard clean where I live." That's the dumbest thing I ever heard when she needs help keeping her apartment clean, hints the disability. Housing needs to do better.

F T Sims: Senior citizen and disabled apartment complex run by DC Public Housing Authority. Very mice infested. Security cameras are old and don't cover entire building. Women are harassed and DCHA security staff does not seem to care.

Natania Bowen: This senior building has bedbugs throughout the building. The manager has not done anything. Its said that's these old people have to live like this.

CLARENCE E WALKER JR: A hot lunch by Seabury. Nutrition quizzes daily, arts and crafts.Very nice atmosphere.

LAKIA ROBINSON: Senior building with lunch program for seniors citizens and their family membersKitchen staff is very helpful, resident.mabager is rude and dusrespect to residents

Vaughn Pinkett: Now they have a curfew 7pm is crazy but that's what they pay for

Victoria Harris: I used to be a senior citizen is no longer that it's like it's a family building with the senior citizens in I don't think it's safe for seniors at all

sara perry: It's not safe at all and the police station is across the street right

Chrissy Mac: This place needs to be gutted. Also, the exterior needs a face lift.

Charles Cherry: Just what a person needs. All within reach @ accessible..

DC Department of Aging and Community Living: what do users think?

Janice Sanker: Been trying to get in touch with the Case Manager name Perez for 3 months concerning my Mom. He won't return phone calls at all!!!!!😳☹️ . Rehab Center won't check on my paralyzed Mom every two hours to change her from laying in her mess. Most of these places don't do what they said they will provide. The family is better at paying an individual to come over and live to take care of your love ones. The whole healthcare system is broken and robbing people blind after they have paid their taxes and worked All their lives for the next generations behind them. Then you can't even understand the language barriers.

Frankie Hargrove: I went to the Department of Aging for assistance five months ago this June. A Mr Plathon Watson led me on to believe Id get assistance. He lied. Now I'm 5 months behind in rental assistance and electric bill is now $1073.05. He refuses to even reply to my pleas to answer my emails/text messages.

orandra cotton: It is always difficult to see your parents age and become physically unable to do the things that once came so easily yo them. Consequently when my mom and me made the decision to allow me to become her care provider it was an emotional experience for me. From the very first contact with the dc office in aging staff person Jennifer and Shelia to the receptionist team greeting you in the office it has been so smooth and compassionate. Having worked for dc govt once I know this is not always the case. I want to commend this office and especially thank publically ms. Witherspoon and Harley for their professionalism.

Frieda BrownSjogren: The staff is exceptionally friendly and sympathetic. I was helped right away and they keep me thoroughly informed about the status of my mom's case. When it comes down to taking care of the elderly, DC rocks!

kandi zanese: A mR Joseph. ALLEGRETTO TOOK a thousand dollars out of an old womans disability account in atlantic county nj- for a credit card that was charged off her credit report 13 years ago. Also The salem county jail in NJ told the nj transit bus company not to pick up four elderly people one was 75 from the desolate bus stop in woodstown nj. So the salem county jail could arrest them

Jacqueline R. Coachman: Meeting the seniors here are more flexible and understanding one ☝ anther..Especially Darnell he's just an instructor and work wonderful with other's exercising, the lunch is great.. I I tried to participate with the rest of the program and so far I'm doin great.👍

Ingleside at Rock Creek: what do users think?

TANYA RHAMES: My father has a stroke back in September 2021. After he was discharge from the hospital and acute rehabilitation it was advised that he continue rehabilitation at a skilled nursing facility. Ingleside was my first choice because of the great reviews I had read. Well when my father was transfer to Ingleside I spoke to the director of nursing Boi whom seem to very candied in our conversation. He even shared I was jot my fathers point / emergency contact not understanding how that could be, when his admission paperwork was sent over from another facility with All my information provided. After that night I was unable to speak to anyone from the medical team until 9 days later the day my father was bring discharged. Prior to his discharge a was in very close contact with the Social Worker Kim to prepare for his discharge planning. Two days before my fathers actually discharge date I asked if someone (Dr/ Nurse) on the medical team would follow up with me. Due to following up his medication prescriptions, pharmacy we would be using. Needless to say the day my father was discharged on a home on a Saturday with no prescriptions available nor any been called in prior to him being discharged. When I contacted the nurses station someone finally answer I spoke to Nurse Beatrice and do eager to rush me off the phone as I was attempting inquire about my how would my fathers prescriptions would be handled. She then told me they the Dr. had called the prescriptions in. I began to question her statement bring I hadn’t spoke with anyone from the medical team to provide any forthcoming information. After getting my father home it took me over 4 hours to get his medication called in and picked up. The follow with this horrible. The way this staffing handled his discharge planning was very neglectful. The facility is beautiful, but the staffing needs a lot of work and possible some retraining. Not my ideal place of sending my love one. “ What looks good on the outside isn’t always good on the inside “.
Response: December 2021 Dear Tanya Rhames, We appreciate your feedback and if you are willing, please contact our Executive Director at 202-596-3138 so we can learn more. Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Karen Lamb: Ingleside has done a superb job of handling the safety of its residents during the pandemic. The facility is beautiful, with every attention to detail and design, and the staff at ALL levels are extremely friendly and helpful. Management makes every effort to communicate with residents, both the good and bad news. Maintenance response has been slow but is improving. There are not many social or intellectual events, but that is understandable in the current climate. Our main problem is with the food, which is delivered to your door and has to be nuked. It would be desirable to have a meal plan that is more flexible (say, two or three meals a week), so that you don't lose money every time you want to do your own cooking. Otherwise, Ingleside was well worth waiting for during the delayed move-in and we are very happy here..
Response: (September 2020) Dear Karen Lamb, Thank you for your kind remarks and we appreciate your recommendations. We are delighted that Ingleside was “well worth waiting for” and that you are very happy here. We are also happy to have you as part of our community! Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Gretchen Willson: My husband and I were grateful that the timing of our move to Ingleside occurred about 2 weeks before move-ins were halted due to the Corona virus. We had a taste of what normal life is like: meeting new neighbors in the dining room, assorted exercise classes and the Friday lecture programs. While we are still dining (room service!) in our apartments, there is life outside of our new walls. We have continued to meet new people as we are not restricted in the out of doors, other than the proper distancing and mask wearing. Ingleside continues to look out for us and we are so happy that we no longer have to worry about whether a tree is going to fall on our house and other worries over home maintenance. For us, moving to Ingleside couldn't come soon enough!
Response: (August 2020) Dear Gretchen Willson, We truly appreciate your thoughtful comments. We are so happy that you and your husband have joined our community! We hope that you both continue to enjoy our programs and amenities. Many thanks, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Elder Witt Wellborn: After living in the neighborhood for almost 50 years, we moved in late September into one of the new Independent Living apartments at Ingleside Rock Creek. In what is admittedly one of the most stressful years ever, the move was amazingly easy. Ingleside had provided excellent orientation for those of us moving in and referred us to many helpful resources. And we found ourselves immediately "at home,", despite the limitations on social interaction which are in place here as well as in our larger community. While we cannot gather with other residents for meals in the dining room or other eating places within the complex, everyone -- staff and residents -- is very friendly and eager to meet each other. It's actually a bit like the first year at college, although due to masks, I must confess that I have introduced myself several times to the same person! Staff and residents do a remarkable job of getting us together via Zoom -- to meet each other, discuss books, exercise daily, ask questions of management, hear interesting speakers and share musical performances. IRC actually models "engaged living;" it's not just a slogan. For example, today's Washington Post spotlights a new program through which residents are volunteering to mentor staff members' children. .
Response: (January 2021) Dear Elder Witt Wellborn, Thank you for your kind words and a 5-star rating. We are delighted to have you both as a part of our community. We look forward to continuing to provide an engaging living experience and hope you both continue to enjoy experiencing our community and the programs offered. Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Lucia Hatch: WE moved to Ingleside Rock Creek this summer looking forward to meeting a group of really interesting residents and enjoying good meals and fine company. Covid has greatly limited the mingling and community dining, but the apartment we moved into is lovely, and the staff could not be more helpful, friendly and responsive. There are plenty of opportunities to get to know fellow residents through the ubiquitous Zoom meetings and outdoor socializing,, and by appointment, I can continue to stay limber at the fitness center. The campus is beautifully landscaped, with a lovely path to next-door Rock Creek for the adventurous.
Response: (November 2020) Dear Lucia Hatch, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We are delighted that you are part of our community! It is wonderful to hear that you are enjoying your new home and our campus. Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

J. David Willson: My wife and I chose Ingleside because of its reputation as a premier facility and its park/urban location adjacent to our neighborhood of many years. We moved in at the end of February and had about three weeks of "normal" living before covid-19 shut down our dining room and many of the activities which we had come to enjoy and appreciate. While the restrictions have restricted our ability to get to know our new neighbors, we have felt protected and well cared for during this emergency. And zoom has helped us enjoy a modified experience. We really love our sunny, roomy, and pleasant apartment and getting used to this new living style has been easy. The food is good, with lots of variety, the staff is friendly and helpful, the surroundings pleasant (the interior public spaces, the landscaping and "ravine" natural area, and the neighborhood), and the residents are an amazing collection of people from different and interesting backgrounds.
Response: (August 2020) Dear J. David Willson, Thank you so much for your kind words and 5-star review. It is wonderful to hear that you both love your apartment and have felt well cared for and protected. We are delighted to have you and your wife as part of our community! Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Marna Tucker: “My husband was severely disabled and I had just retired from an active law practice. My world was getting smaller and smaller. Then we moved to Ingleside at Rock Creek and my world opened up. Our future care was assured in this beautiful continuing care community. I tried new activities outside my comfort zone—poetry reading, new exercise challenges, fascinating discussion groups, art lessons, evening cocktails with new friends in the lovely landscaped courtyard, walks on the trails of Rock Creek. Even with the Covid 19 restrictions, my world grew larger and larger. We were protected and cared for. My burdens lightened. My days brightened. Ingleside at Rock Creek was the perfect choice for us.”
Response: (October 2020) Dear Marna Tucker, Thank you so much for your 5-star review. We are delighted to hear that your world “opened up” and that our community was the perfect choice for you and your husband. We are happy that you both are part of our Ingleside at Rock Creek family! Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Dee A: Very disappointed to see how ingleside undervalues it's employees they have some people that have worked here for more than 25 years and yet still have little to no recognition for it. And now they have declared a mandatory to receive the vaccine. They have gone as far as to say that if you do not get vaccinated they both find it as a resignation. Making people choose between their livelihood and their beliefs.
Response: September 2021 Dear Dee A, Thank you for your comments. The well-being of our entire community is a top priority. We are continuing to follow local and state guidelines regarding vaccine mandates. Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

John Marshall: Even though Covid19 disrupted IRC's schedule for occupancy of the new buildings, we were kept well informed and our preferred schedule was accommodated. The IRC Marketing Staff and the Move-In Manager were very supportive. The Food Service has managed to deliver meals from a good selection of entrees in spite of the necessary closing of the dining rooms. The Maintenance Staff has been excellent in making adjustments which are inevitable in a newly constructed facility. The wait-list has been long but we are delighted with our choice of IRC as our CCRC home.
Response: (October 2020) Dear John Marshall, Thanks so much for your 5-star review. We are delighted that you have felt supported and well-informed. Our community is happy that you choose us as your new home! Sincerely, Ingleside at Rock Creek

Vicki Mongiardo: I can't thank Lorie and Damien enough for helping my husband get into Rehab at Ingleside after his hip replacement surgery. It was such a blessing for us. We were efficiently guided through the entry process and warmly received by staff on Saturday. Kenneth was especially helpful and kind in getting us settled and providing lead nursing care during his stay. We had a rough few days at first with night chills, sweats, reaction to medicine. etc. but things slowly Improved. He began feeling optimistic about his recovery and worked hard. He had lost his confidence, since both of his knees need to be replaced and he felt unsteady. I was elated when I saw him walking for the first time without a walker. The therapists, nurses, aids, social worker, dietitian, and staff were all helpful. Suggestion: They could use more nurses and aides especially at night to reduce response time especially for new patients who are in the early stage of recovery. The food was surprisingly both healthy and very tasteful. There is no way that I was in any condition to care for my husband at home nor could he or I feel that he would be safe there. We are so glad that Ingleside was our first choice for rehab. We had a chance to get some air and sit in the lovely court yard. We also met a few of the residents who were friendly and welcoming. Based on our experience, we are considering the possibility of joining the Ingleside community in the future.

Pathways to Housing DC: what do users think?

Steven Herriott: Two year waiting list I applied it's been Four shount lock good people up or it might relate back to u next time

kendra Cohen: This place will take your money and say your lying then don't want to help you this place is a while joke it use to be the best I don't know what happened

Wayne Chase: There help you with all your housing need as well as getting you personal information in hand thanks pathway to housing

Nathaniel Gregg: Gentlemen we have an issue at hand. I have 1,400.00 in savings and about an equal amount in savings bonds. The obvious solution is to secure a copy of the financial report from the paying agency. The same way you can ask for a benefit statement, you could acquire a copy of bank statements.

Willie Miles: I've been part of pathways for a long time an the staff there there are committed to helping the homeless with there everyday needs like med counseling an to get placement in housing an when a client is housed it is the staff primary job to help them maintaine there housing as well as othere needs I fell pathways is one of the best programs in the DC area that's really for the people needs.willie miles I've been in my home for 3years now me an my lovely wife sandra miles.thanks to pathways we are able to move forward with life.

Jacqueline Harris: Absolutely disgusting organization. They helped my friend get an apartment and his SSDI. That was such a blessing, right? Yeah, but recently they forced him to make them his payee and threatened to take away his apartment if he didn't. They assured him he'd still have his needs met and yet, he hasn't gotten any of his money from them for the last two months and they haven't paid his rent or his phone bill. He was paying his rent on time, keeping his phone on, paying for his own laundry and yet for some reason they decided he wasn't being responsible enough and forced him into this situation and screwed him over. This isn't even the first time I've heard of this happening but it's the first tim I've witnessed it firsthand with my own two eyes. They're thieves. Nothing more or less and they need to be shut down for taking advantage of those in need.

Terrencia Lester: I love what they are doing and thats placing people in their own place and following up with them to make sure they are able to keep their residence by paying their rent on time each month as well as any utility bills they may have. The staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend this agency to anyone who needs a place to live.

Christy Respress: I'm honored to work at Pathways where I meet the most amazing and resilient people. We have the most committed and creative staff I've ever worked with! Housing First- it works.

Rachelle Ellison: Im still with Pathways to Housing.. Without them i wouldnt be where Im at today. The Housing 1st Model works so well. I was Homeless for 17 years and on drugs and mentally instable just as long. They not only gave me a roof over my head and a start with furniture but believed in me until i believed in myself. Today im a speaker and advocate for the National coalition for the homeless, Im a Certified Peer Specialist who works at UPO CTC helping people just like me. Im Clean and Sober going on my 5th year and exploring Gods will for me. I will forever be grateful to Pathways to Housing for Seeing Something in me I didn't see in Myself. Shout out to Christy Repress, Linda Kauffman, Johnathan Ward, Dr. Robert Keisling, And Josh Green the team that brought me in from the streets. Today i will do the same thing you did for me for others with an open heart and Gratitude.. Forever Grateful. Rachelle Ellison]

Charmira McKoy: They should definitely revisit the interview process. Having a person spend a day in the field to then not hire shows their complete lack of consideration and disregard.

National Disability Rights Network (NDRN): what do users think?

Harris: IMHO, THIS ORGANIZATION DEPRIVES THE MOST SEVERELY INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED OF THEIR RIGHTS IN FAVOR OF HIGHER FUNCTIONING PERSONS. INSTEAD OF PROTECTING THE VERY VULNERABLE, THEY BRING UP FRIVOLOUS LAW SUITS THAT VERY OFTEN HAVE NO MERIT, AND BRING GREAT HARM OR HIGH RISK OF HARM TO THE PROFOUNDLY DISABLED.

Anya PH: It's a great place! Good national and international conferences and trainings, provides services to lawyers and advocates for an often disenfranchised part of society. I've volunteered for one of their annual meetings. Hard-working and conscientious Deputy Executive Director for Legal Services and General Counsel (disclaimer: I'm related to this person and have direct experience about the 13-hour days he works, sometimes even on weekends).

Tim Guilford: Fantastic organization dedicated to enabling people with disabilities.

D.C. Department on Disability Services: what do users think?

Victor Salcedo: Overpromises I will tell you they speak a good game but help yeah they will not help you. To be honest, they will take your information like tax documents shred the paperwork to use you as a statistic to get more funding by the government. Do not waste your time and if they ask for your taxes and paperwork do not give it to them you will not see it ever again. Told them to close my case because all mouth and zero action so what's the point of having a program for people with disabilities. TBH they do not GAF about you, to them your a statistic just another number.

Lakina S. Edwards: Great service overall! It’s best to have an appointment beforehand. Every employee was polite, friendly and eager to assist and provide me services. In addition to receiving the best services from my assigned Caseworker, Mrs. Trunk, I feel confident- more than ever! - with the missions and goals that she has encouraged & inspired me to accomplish. Thank you, DDS for providing me great services!

Deaf HustleBTC: They are so unprofessional in ways of supporting people with disabilities to obtain jobs. They provide very little resources no matter how many times I have tried to work with them. I can now see why this department on disability is failing so many of us to be able to lead a quality lifestyle and be part of a work force.

Elizabeth Shokunbi: I thought I was the only one experiencing issues with this department. They don't return calls then they have no plan in place as to help. Plus they keep calling us to come back to their office. I'm really frustrated with them and about to file a lawsuit against the department. Such a bunch of incompetence. They need to let the mayor know if their caseload is such that they cannot return calls/emails within 24 to 48hours also.

Chandra Metts: This is the worst government agency I have ever dealt with. The caseworkers does not answer or return your calls for weeks at a time. Very unprofessional. The absolute worss

R.Titilope Odejimi: Trainings are usually very productive but, when the training exceeds a certain hours, there should at least be some form of refreshments.... At least water.

G. Anthony Sims: Poor actuate service for person with Disability, Experience took (3) test , one conselor talk placement, she relocated, the End. Nothing therefore waste 8 months, I mean nothing.

Ronald Henderson: Stil waiting on my case worker to call me back its been week . Have. Anyone have anything ggoo to say about this place. No one is answering the phones.

Courtney Sneed: The Service be better for people with Disability need more effort and more and do more better and it’s helpful

Graciel Moya: I don’t recommend this service at all! I’ve been there and yet they don’t help at all. I rather not go there again
