Her classes are well structured and organized with binders that young children can follow and use easily. She is patient and nurturing as she encourages, yet holds the student to an appropriate and high standard. And she is fun! Kids find her engaging and delightful. Highly recommend.
Response: I love watching your daughters sit at the piano together and play and sing.

Carola Mamberto: Ms. Fotis is an outstanding piano teacher. What sets her apart is her incredible ability to connect with her students. She makes learning the piano fun and rewarding while also being very rigorous in her approach. That's such a rare combination in today's music teaching world!

As a member of Music Teachers National Association we strive to find the right educational resources and options for each student. I always try to create positive experiences for my music community. Studio V: Private Musical Instruction: what do users think?

Scott A: I have been thinking about how to write this review for a while, as I am now coming up on my year anniversary of the frankly life changing decision to take piano lessons with Matthew. I've been playing piano for over a decade, but it has mostly been a casual, self-taught journey filled with basic pieces, poor technique, and a fear of sheet music. For years I've wanted to grow my skills and relationship with the piano and that is what originally drew me to Studio V. Matthew's website describes his holistic and well-rounded approach to piano instruction and he absolutely delivers on that. I have learned about much more than just piano during the past year and that is exactly what I was looking for. You will learn about history, philosophy, composers and their pieces; but at the heart of it all will still be the piano, which Matthew shares a deep and evident connection to. Any given week you might study/practice technique, physical exercises, music theory, various pieces each meant to develop or refine a certain skill, and much more. So not only have I learned a lot about classical music in general over the past year, I have also improved my piano playing ability drastically compared to my last 10 years. I will also mention that when you break down his lesson time and quarterly tuition, his rates come out lower than many of the other studios I checked out in DC, which even furthers the value. Lessons with Matthew have exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to see where I'll be in the next 1, 2, 3, etc. years.

Lauren Furente: Matthew is a wonderful instructor. He is clear in his expectations, thoughtful in his approaches, patient in his instruction, and cares deeply about his students and music. Matthew was patient as I picked up piano again for the first time in 10+ years and rebuilt my understanding of piano from the ground up. When it felt like I lived and breathed my work, Matthew worked with me to accommodate a new lesson time and shared a different practicing approach that worked for my schedule. I can't recommend him enough.

Jonathan Sosa: I've been a student of Matthew's for a little over a year at this point. Prior to moving to the DMV area and finding Studio V, I had never played any instrument and had only taken a couple months of beginners lessons at a music school. I felt like maybe it was too late and it wasn't possible to learn as an adult. I decided to give it another go and after looking doing a deep dive into all the possible options in DC, I found Matthew and Studio V. I can easily say taking lessons at Studio V is one of the best decisions I have ever made. In the short time I've known Matthew I feel like I've made more progress than ever imaginable and Matthew has rekindled my dream of learning how to play the piano. Matthew truly dedicates himself to every one of his students and is knowledgeable, kind, patient, and aside from an excellent teacher, a friend.

Bryan Rodda: I've taken lessons with Matthew Viator for the past 2.5 years. Matthew is an excellent teacher who will tailor his approach to your skill set. Matthew teaches students at all levels, from beginner to professional. I think he is particularly excellent with students like me, who was returning to piano study after a 10+ year absence from formal instruction. From the start, Matthew assessed my skills and developed a technical and musical approach tailored to my needs: addressing my weaknesses, broadening my skill set, and reflecting the goals and objectives I said that I wanted out of lessons. His standards are exceptionally high. Early on, it was a humbling process for me to rebuild and redevelop skills on "simple" music, but I now find my playing to be built upon the strongest technical foundations I've ever had at the piano. Matthew is an extraordinary teacher of piano technique. He's a gifted composer, and his skills include functional composition for teaching and instructional purposes. He has composed, or will create, dozens of technical exercises and numerous etudes to tackle any technical issue or concerns in your playing, and he backs up his approach with a deep and comprehensive understanding of the actual physiology of how your body and brain work. It's technique put in the context of how we actually learn piano playing as a physical and mental skill. I've never had a teacher approach the instrument and synthesize the intellectual and physical acts of playing in such a comprehensive way. If you're seeking this type of deep technical grounding in your playing, I cannot recommend Matthew highly enough.

David Popko: Matthew is an exceptional teacher with a teaching style and curriculum that is vastly different from the tired out traditional piano teaching model. As someone who grew up on the traditional model -- the music teacher industrial complex -- jury, competition, jury, competition, ad infinitum... -- and initially left music because of it, Matthew has helped me to grow immensely as a musician, and to really develop my expressive voice as a pianist. Each lesson with Matthew is challenging, unique -- you will rarely do the same thing twice, and he always keeps you on your feet -- and interesting; Matthew is not only interested in teaching you how to play a few piano pieces, but is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the composers, and how they are interconnected with one another. Most importantly, Matthew's instruction delivers results. I can honestly say that I have improved more in the 8 months I've spent studying with Matthew, than in the previous 10+ years of lessons. Also makes a great cappuccino to boot!

Jordana Schmierer: Although I've played piano for years, I've progressed so much in the 2 years I've been working with Matthew. Here, I learned how to learn music and how to practice properly, something I had previously struggled with. Matthew is a great teacher, has a very holistic view of learning and playing music and he'll help push you from wherever you begin.

Quang Nguyen: I've been a student for over four years and this is the best investment I've ever made. Matthew's instruction has helped me become a well-rounded musician, improving my strength, technique, reading skills, and musicality / understanding of the music. Most importantly, he's taught me to become my own teacher - I am truly in tune with my playing now, and can self-identify areas for improvement. Over the years I've witnessed everyone from true beginners to competitive musicians make great strides in this studio. As a bonus, the studio organizes many fun events throughout the year, including parade floats with live pianists, and living room "salon" performances with dinner included. Matthew has another not-so-secret skill... he's an amazing chef!

Jonah Erickson: Matthew is one of the best music teachers I have ever had. He has an incredible ability to identify and fix the individual weaknesses in each student and has helped me make huge improvements in a short time. He is experienced, knowledgeable and has an undeniable passion for teaching students how to play the piano. I would recommend him to anyone from beginner to professional.

Daniel C.: Prior to beginning lessons at Studio V, I had played on my own for several years with little regularity or progress. I hadn't formed the best habits, and my overall skill set was unbalanced and stagnant. I've since been studying with Matthew for around 6 months and have already noticed significant improvements across many aspects of my playing: I can feel my technical abilities stabilizing (and with a proper foundation, I'm very optimistic about my ability to continue improving), I've begun developing sight-reading abilities, something I had never been able to do before, and perhaps more importantly, I find myself more musically engaged with each piece I approach. Matthew is a conservatory-trained composer and skilled pianist, but above all he is an artist and that really comes through in his teaching style. He challenges students to approach their music education in a holistic manner, going beyond the study of just the notes: What is the background of the piece and its composer? How should your playing reflect the qualities of a waltz or minuet vs. those of a sonatina? What effect did the industrial revolution have on standardizing schools of piano playing (this might be a quiz question)? This is approach is complemented by his highly structured teaching curriculum, full of exercises and pieces he himself composed. This curriculum covers aspects of technique, practice habits (something I've found immensely helpful), improvisation, musical expressivity, and more. He has developed a comprehensive approach that is equally flexible in adapting to the needs of individual students. Matthew sets high standards for his students, pushing us to reach our fullest potential as aspiring musicians. Since beginning lessons at Studio V, I've truly been looking forward to see how my musical education will progress from here, and to any prospective students I can't recommend Matthew enough. And as another review noted, he does indeed make a great cup of coffee!

Van Koppersmith: Piano lessons with Matthew have been a great experience. I stopped playing about 25 years ago (other than a couple failed attempts to pick it back up) so I was effectively a beginner when I joined the studio. He is welcoming to all levels and has his own book for the basics. Rather than just practice a piece and move on, Matthew spends time teaching the theory and history behind classical music and makes sure you understand why a particular piece is chosen and how to approach it. Everything is extremely detailed and deliberate and this leads to very quick learning and a much more completely understanding of the music. Beyond that, his studio is a community and students get opportunities to meet each other through various events Matthew hosts. This has been a great experience and I highly recommend it if you want to learn and understand how to play piano rather than just memorize a few basic pieces in a haphazard manner (as were my previous lesson experiences).

Lessons In Your Home: what do users think?

Michael: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityThis made getting lessons for my 3 kids a snap. I even started taking guitar lessons with them. They found Josh who can teach the kids piano and guitar for myself. Kids are having a blast and I am enjoying picking up the guitar again. Josh is great. Patient with the kids and myself. He is a real pleasure.
Response: Michael, we are so glad your family is enjoying music lessons with Lessons In Your Home! We appreciate you letting us bring music into your home!

Christina Malekiani: We have had a wonderful experience with both of our children and LIYH. We have been clients since before covid and have been impressed with their rapid changes in protocols for covid that were simultaneously so smooth and made for easy transitions for the kids. After also taking a hiatus from one instrument for one child, LIYH was so helpful in transitioning that child back to another instrument and with a different coach that was an even better fit. Heather is extremely professional and proactive and an excellent communicator. She listens well to what each family and child needs and guides appropriately with her recommendations and seems to be spot on. Joseph has been absolutely amazing with our daughter on guitar—one of the most patient, kind teachers we have seen and knows how to keep her motivated and excited. She loves him and can’t wait for lessons each week with him! Nicole has been wonderful on piano with our son and knows how to challenge him appropriately while still keeping him encouraged. We have been extremely pleased with LIYH and will continue to work with them as long as our kids keep enjoying playing an instrument.
Response: Christina, we can't thank you enough for the kind words about Lessons In Your Home! Your feedback is important to us and lets us know we're on the right track! Thank you for letting us be a part of your musical experience!

Tammie Dzubak: My son is a beginner at violin. Joseph has successfully taught him via Zoom (due to the pandemic). Joseph is patient, encouraging, and motivating. He truly understands how to teach children. Most importantly Joseph has instilled confidence in him and he is eager to practice daily. We look forward to a time when Joseph and my son can practice together.
Response: Thank you for your kind words about Joseph, he loves working with your son!

Fallon McNeil: Steve Boone (Richmond VA) is so kind, patient, and fun with our two children (ages 10 and 7). Their excitement and love for music has only increased since starting lessons with him. Heather made the enrollment process effortless and answered all of our questions thoroughly. We have had a WONDERFUL experience with this company. Thank you!
Response: We're so glad you're enjoying the musical experience! Thanks so much for the kind words about Lessons In Your Home and Steve!

David B: We have been so pleased with our instructor, Sean, and by Lessons In Your Home in general. With so few opportunities for safe, in-person instruction over the past year of the pandemic, it's been really nice to provide our daughter with in-home lessons from a talented and supportive piano instructor. Thank you!
Response: David, Thank you so much for the wonderful review about Lessons In Your Home and Sean! He really enjoys lessons with your children each week!

Dudley's B Sharp Academy: what do users think?

VJ Kapur: Daryl has been teaching my child piano since she was 4 and has done a great job of keeping her attention throughout their 30-minute lessons. He indulges her stories/distractions just enough, while keeping her on task. He has many exercises for her level of comprehension/dexterity, and covers the instrument, basics of music theory and notation, and other topics in an engaging way. I highly recommend to folks, especially ones who think their 3- or 4-year-old isn't ready for lessons!

Normajean Freeland: Having enrolled in Dudley's B Sharp Academy and having Mr. Daryl Dudley as my teacher has been enlightening and refreshing. He shows that he wants you to succeed. I am so happy I enrolled in the Academy and look forward to my weekly sessions. I recommend the Academy whenever someone expresses an interest in playing a musical instrument.

Lisa Jamison: A great learning experience! Being a beginner piano student, the training I received from Mr. Dudley was great especially since I didn’t know my way around the piano. He is very patient and thorough. I definitely would recommend this studio for all your musical ambitions!

fatima khambaty: Mr Dudley is patient and meets you right where you are- even as an adult student . He was able to assess me right away and we jumped right back (after my break of 25 years) into piano Lessons. He understands even though I have no jazz background how to get me to start thinking differently from my classical training. Honestly- he makes learning fun, easy and less daunting ! Thank you !

Lamia Matta: My 5-year old daughter loved taking ukulele classes with Mr. Dudley. After only a few classes, she became very enthusiastic about playing music. The classes also gave her a lot of confidence. Mr. Dudley is super kind and has a very very nice manner. I highly highly recommend the school.

HARVEY Harris: He is an excellent teacher and my 8y/o son has learned so much in a short time. He gets right down to business, and he allows him to advance at his own pace. My son looks forward to piano lessons every week. I would recommend him to anyone; a true christian demeanor on top of it all.

Bruce Britton: Working with Coach Dudley has been an amazing experience, He is very encouraging and I like that he pushes you put of your comfort zone in order for you to grow as a vocalist. I have worked with him and seen improvement as a singer. I definitely would recommend taking up his classes to anyone!

Natasha: Mr Dudley is great! My kiddos (ages 5&3) love taking lessons with him. I especially appreciate his approach in teaching younger kids.

kara taylor: Amazing, amazing, amazing. One lesson and I saw my daughter shine! She is autistic with add and Darryl was so patient with her. I am a thankful and proud mom.

Maryland: I went to this academy for voice lessons to build up my vocal range + to learn breathing techniques. I also took key board lessons online to help pass the time during pandemic lock down. Bro Dudley is a natural for pulling out talents that you didn't know you had. He builds up your confidence. "Come on you can do it I have confidence in you". He is very patient and a professional musician of which he loves to share his musical talents. Dudley is a great guy and a man of faith. I would highly recommend Dudley B Sharp Academy. D Whte

Greta Burrows: Both my kids really like their instructors. They are patient and knowledgeable. My son has been playing piano for over 6 years and my daughter started violin.
Response: Hi Greta, Thank you for the wonderful review! We have lots of great instructors in the Washington area but we are so glad to hear that your kids learned so much with their music lessons instructor. Keep us updated on their progress!

Karmen Armitage: My son has learned more piano in eight months of instruction then he did in eighteen months with his prior teacher. He incorporates all of the important aspects of a musical education in his lessons.

Yuriko Puryear: I would recommend her anytime for guitar lessons. My son has learned a lot considering he has only been taking lessons since the end of September.
Response: Great to hear from you. Always good to hear of more success with our music lessons instructor there in Washington. Thanks for wonderful review!

Sherryl Murr: If you need piano lessons, contact him. His price is very reasonable and he's just a great guy. I highly recommend him!

Middle C Music: what do users think?

James Hurwitz: Without reservation, Middle C Music deserves the highest possible recommendation. They did a superb job of cleaning up and giving an overall tune-up to my antique guitar and repairing my antique mandolin. In the process, I saw how the staff at Middle C —Nick, Tom, Dave and Hillary — interacted not just with me but customers and students of all ages and abilities. What I appreciated most was their low key manner and the pleasure they took in enhancing the joy that others got from their instruments, music, and lessons. This is truly an excellent music store.
Response: Thanks so much for all your kind words, Jim! Always a pleasure working with you, and of course, you're welcome back anytime-- in fact, if you drop by on the 19th, we'll be having a 20th anniversary celebration with cake, prizes, and live performances. We're honored to be your local music store, and hope to continue serving you and maintaining your lovely instruments for years to come. -Tom F.

Gillian Edick: We popped into Middle C to have a guitar restrung and tuned. They did it quickly, but more importantly made it great fun for my aspiring but beginner guitarist. Tom was amazing - so helpful and took the time to show my son how to tune the guitar, hold it and get started. Really fantastic service. Thanks Tom and team!
Response: Thanks so much, Gillian. Helping musicians have fun getting started is one of my favorite things about working in our community. Come back anytime to show off his progress! -T

Paul Myers: I purchased a piano from these fine people, and I love it. It was very competitively priced. I have also purchased a guitar, and I have had these folks restring several guitars, and they do a great job —and again, the price is right. I love supporting small businesses, and Middle C Music is one of the best!
Response: Thanks so much! Very kind words. Glad you're enjoying the piano.

Phyllis Pierce: I had a small (thankfully) issue with the guitar I'm teaching myself to play. So I took it to Middle C in hopes they could fix it and it wouldn't be away from me too long. They fixed my issue on the spot and for free!! They are very friendly and that guy really knew his guitars. I think they have a long term customer here!!
Response: Thanks for stopping by Phyllis! We're looking forward to seeing you back at Middle C soon. If you have time this Saturday, why not drop by for our 20th Anniversary celebration? We'll have cake, prizes, and live performances happening all day long!

Christopher Tripoli: I fell in love with an instrument I found here called a "U-Bass," but I'm left-handed so couldn't use the one on display. Had them order a lefty model for me, and couldn't be happier with their service! Tom F was excellent to work with. A fun neighborhood store that I eagerly recommend!
Response: Thanks for the review, Chris! I'm really happy we were able to deliver. Come back and show off your U-Bass skills anytime! -TF

Fernando Nogueira: Super friendly and helpful staff. We were missing a very specific guitar screw and they helped us out in no time.

Ricky Webster: Amazingly friendly and helpful staff! Middle C is a great place to pick up your general music needs, but maybe isn't the best specifically for guitar equipment. They still have the basics for guitar, and will order anything you need! I have also used their guitar repair/tune-up service and everything was great. Thanks!
Response: Thank you, Ricky! We can't wait to have you back in the store.

Susanna Gregory: I LOVED it here! Stopped by for a new guitar and the staff was immediately willing to help and super friendly. The prices were great and I was really impressed with all the cool little things you could buy too! I didn’t get the names of the people who helped me but they were fantastic
Response: Thank you, Susanna! I'm glad we were able to help you find the right guitar, and we really appreciate your support. See you again! - Nick (and Tom and Dave) :)

Rebecca Brenner: I hadn't sought out new strings for my guitar since 2017. so every ~4yr when I get restrung, I only trust one music shop to touch my green guitar: Middle C Music. they do a fabulous job! I wouldn't recommend waiting 4yr for new strings -- or 10+yr for a new case -- but I highly recommend Middle C Music for all services!
Response: Thanks so much Rebecca! We'll see you in another four years!!

Michelle Long: I had the best time at Middle C Music! Everyone was super knowledgeable, supportive, and friendly. I came in looking for a 3/4 size acoustic guitar for traveling and had my pick of a beautiful selection. Big fan!! Will return!
Response: Wooo! Thanks Michelle, hope you enjoy the new guitar!

Cardon Studios: what do users think?

Kish Rusek: At Cardon Studios, I learned how to sing Italian arias from the 18th and 19th centuries under the tutelage of a professional, highly skilled, knowledgeable, patient instructor. I also received instruction on how to hone performance skills. I am so grateful and appreciative of all the teachers and the management at Cardon Studios for welcoming me to a larger community of DC musicians. If you're seeking a fun time or a deeper learning experience - or both simultaneously - this is your music school!

Tanya Paperny: Loved working with Allen on voice lessons: good vocal warm up activities, friendly and low-key demeanor. Plenty of opportunities for performance or master classes for those interested. Easy to schedule regular appointments.
Response: Thanks, Tanya! We've loved having you as a student 😊

Erin Cornette: I fancy myself somewhat of a vocalist, having participated in state level audition choirs, singing through college in school choirs, and aceing solo and ensembles. Even with years of 'choral' instruction under my belt, I received excellent instruction from Seana. In addition to being an excellent instructor, she's also incredibly nice. If you're interested in voice lessons, I highly recommend Cardon Studios.

Marcus Bell: Please Review- These sessions with Tanya have been unreal, amazing, interactive and full of utter knowledge and discovery! When I started my sessions I felt like I had serious issues with my voice like vocal nodules or I popped a chord due to the last coach. However, Tanya changed and Continues to change my way of thinking about music and overall knowledge base with her enchanting voice, intelligence, uncanny metaphors and sense of humor. I started with her having doubts and not knowing why my voice was wobbly as the game Tumble and why I couldnt project if my life depended on. It is now going on Lesson 6 and she has done the following to me- 1. Gotten my voice to become even with Vibrato in most registers 2. I Speak and Sing with Support and in Full Voice 3. Has My Air and Breathing Flowing 4. Sing on Rythm 5. Can Sing down to F#2! Additionally, she is doing some wonderful things to my Tenor voice- 1. It is Lesson 6 and I am Already Practicing in Tenor High C in Full Voice!!!!(Hold Your Appause until the End) 2. I am trying to do singing Full Time/Professionally so with rehearsing my Voc Lessons and performing a Song- My Coworker put me in contact with a MusicPR!!!!(Wait There's More) 3. I am a Mutant/Freak of Nature-I was listening to Mariah Carey Dream Lover and I produced a C7(The Introduction Note) and as I told Tanya that none of Me but her vocal lessons. I just got so excited whIle practing and then turned on Pandora and I heard that song and just did it! Tanya stated she will assist me in developing this extremity of my voice which makes me adore and want to continue to learn and be guided by her even more. She's amazing! So with all this being stated- Take a bow Tanya! You deserve it!!!

Chelsey Snyder: I love taking lessons here. Parking is actually really easy, I never have trouble. And the instructors are great.

David Lanagan: Excellent neighborhood music school near the Georgia Ave metro. Great teachers and programs!

International School of Music: what do users think?

Joma A Washirapunya: International School of Music is a great school for any type of music class. My daughter has been doing a virtual class for a year now. Despite it’s still being online, she still learns a lot. Her piano teacher (Junie K.) is very knowledgeable and helps her with the fundamentals and makes sure she understands everything about playing the piano. The staff is helpful and quick to respond to all my questions. I am happy that we enrolled her at ISM.

Chong Zhang: We had a very good experience with ISM for my daughter’s violin class. Her teacher Kimia is amazing!

Linda Shiner: Young is an accomplished guitarist who is very patient and helpful with beginners. He shows you precisely how to move your fingers to get the best benefit from practice.

Erika Jorgensen: Great teachers, convenient location. We have enjoyed lessons for two kids plus me for years now. All the teachers are excellent and inspiring. Very well organized school.

Aycan Oguz: We really love our piano teacher Minji. She has a great communication with kids and gently build the foundation of music knowledge brick by brick. I strongly recommend her!

Juanita Ramkissoon: (From my 10 year old son) My instructor, Charlotte, is fun, creative, and really knows her stuff! I look forward to going to my singing classes and practicing my vocals while I play my guitar.

Claire Heffez: Great teachers, friendly staff, flexible and organized. I highly recommend, even for young children!

Carmen Bellacasa: My daughter loves meeting with her instructor weekly. I highly recommend.

Ryan John Estorninos: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueThe International School of Music has been the perfect place for my daughter to harness her natural talent. Her teacher is skilled in helping her learn fundamentals and refine her talent. We are glad to have International School of Music as our school.

Georgia Farkash: We couldn’t be happier with our experience at the International School of Music. The front desk admins are knowledgeable, professional and always happy to assist the students and their families. My daughter’s teacher is outstanding. She has been a source of inspiration and a resource for my daughter and our family!

Washington Conservatory of Music: what do users think?

Diana Rumrill: Wonderful place to take lessons, attend high quality concerts, and find a supportive community of other adult music students!

Jolie Blanchard Brown: I'm an adult piano student at Washington Conservatory of Music where I receive superior instruction from Ms. Dionne Laufman. She makes learning fun! During the COVID-19 pandemic the lessons are being taught virtually. We haven't missed a beat! I like studying at WCM where I feel part of the music community. In addition to providing individual and class instruction on a variety of instruments (and voice), WCM offers public concerts, student recitals, and master classes. WCM is a great place to study music.

Carol Henry: I started at WCM in 2016 as an adult piano student with Dionne Laufman. I had played the piano for several years as a child in Trinidad (my home country), but I had stopped as an adult. After several decades, I decided to resume piano and found WCM where I enrolled. It has been a very enlightening AND fun learning experience, and I am sorely disappointed that the pandemic has interrupted my personal lessons with a great piano teacher whom I love! The whole point of taking lessons on any instrument is to improve one's playing and technique in order to draw the most beautiful sound out of the instrument. I learned the basics as a child, but at WCM I entered a whole new world of learning with Ms Laufman. She was able to zero in on my faults and show me exactly what to do to correct them (the hallmark of a good teacher!). She taught me about color, and nuance, and touch, and posture, and technique, and so many other things that can transform music from plain and boring to beautiful and enchanting. After 4 years with Dionne, I can actually hear the tremendous improvement in my piano-playing and I am delighted with my progress! It is worth every penny I have spent. Others who have heard me play over the years have also remarked on it. I know that this is testament to the commitment and competence of my dear piano teacher at WCM. And from what I have seen, ALL the teachers at WCM are of this caliber! I would recommend WCM highly to anyone who is thinking about taking lessons on any instrument. In addition to the wide exposure and performance opportunities it provides in this culture-rich metropolitan area, the school is well-organized, well-run, and full of highly competent teachers who obviously love what they do!

International School of Music: what do users think?

Maria Abreu-Blanco: We have attended for a couple of years, on the early childhood program. My son participated in the group classes, he loved his teacher and it was a great experience overall. Now we hove move to private lessons, piano, the instructor is great and my kid enjoys the lessons.

Audrey Shi: ISM is great! It's well-organized, and I really enjoyed my voice lessons with Dara, who was lovely and knowledgeable. I'll be back once I have more time and means for lessons. The location is very convenient, and I had a terrific experience!

Brad Dengler: Great Place to teach kids music. Accommodating scheduling and very patient teachers that get my children excited about learning music and looking forward to their next lesson.

soomin lee: Staffs are great!! My kids love their flute teacher.

Allyson Leung: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityMy daughter has been taking violin lessons for 9 months. We are very pleased with her progress. Miss Dana is very patient with my 6 years old daughter and very knowledgeable as well.

Vishal Sinha: Our kids go to International School of Music for their weekly music sessions. They are just starting out on their musical journey and this can be a challenge for both the kids, and the teachers. We really appreciate the patience of the instructor - she is really doing a good job introducing our kids to music and is patient with them. The front desk staff is very friendly too and helps us quite a bit to set the weekly schedule. The new location is perfect for us and the facilities are really nice!

Elizabeth Clifton: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueISM has great, timely communication, especially during these days of requiring on-the-spot technical coordination and they have been excellent about providing extra time when technical struggles prevent on-time starts. About two months in and very happy with the lessons my child is receiving.

Raquel B. Saltsman: We love ISM and our ukulele teacher!

Manoela Borges: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueWe love ISM. Our eight-year old has taken violin lessons for almost two years and has progressed beautifully. The instructor is supportive and engaging, and the ISM staff are helpful and friendly. We enjoy the flexibility of ISM along with the instructor and staff’s professional approach to teaching.

Kelly McCarthy: Just took our first piano lesson with Becky and are so excited to be working with her! Professional staff and great atmosphere for learning.

Elza Ritter Piano Academy: what do users think?

Jeffery Herrin: Ms. Ritter is a very professional, classically trained and patient piano and vocal teacher. Ms. Ritter understands the needs of her students and homework assignments and exercises aid the student’s success and motivation in acquiring the desired skills. We are happy that we found the Russian Music Academy of America and it has been a very rewarding experience and our daughter is striving.
Response: Dear Mr.Herrin, Thank you for your nice review!

Nina Zaretsky: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueElza Ritter is an accomplished pianist and a magnificent teacher. She is very patient and kind. I have been playing the piano on and off for over 30 years, and still have learned so much from her in the year that I have studied with her. I feel so lucky to have found her!
Response: Thank you dear, Nina! It’s always fun to have a lessons with you! :-) I am impressed how quickly you got into the shape with pieces you did not play for 30 years! And you are learning new pieces fast and with beautiful tone! I love to teach my dedicated adult student Nina!

Fran Travers: I started piano lessons as an adult and was lucky to have Prof. Elza Ritter for my first teacher. She teaches all ages and all levels with amazing results. She stresses technique from the beginning with a kind yet structured approach. She is a wonderful teacher.
Response: Thank you Fran! Sorry for late ThNk You !!

Christine Lin: I am so happy we have found Ms. Elza! My daughter loves going to piano class and has learned so much. I love how Ms. Elza uses the Russian's stricter style of teaching but makes it fun so the kids do not lose interest at the same time. My daughter has improved significantly since we have been going to her. Cost is also comparable to other teachers in the NOVA area.
Response: Thank you!

Natalya Danilyants: My kids have been with Ms Elza for about 10 months. I have seen such an amazing progress! I think even they can't believe how far they have come in such a short time. And all the lessons have been virtual! Ms Elza really helps her students blossom into young musicians. She creates challenging and stimulating repertoire and she organizes free virtual group classes for her students to showcase their progress.

Marine Savoure: I have been studying with Ms. Elza for around 6 years. She is simply amazing, both as a person, pianist, and teacher. Her mix of the Russian and American teaching techniques result in the perfect combination of warmth, enjoyment, and hard work. She succeeds in making her students play music, not only notes. The very way she speaks to you, rectifies your errors, or praises you, makes you want to improve your playing. Thanks to her nature, you naturally want to come to your lesson having worked on your piece. And if you feel you could have done better, Ms. Elza’s smile encourages you to do just that. Ms. Elza has truly instilled in me a love of music, a love of piano. It’s not always easy, as, just like everything, piano requires a lot of hard work. Sometimes it’s hard to practice regularly. But Ms. Elza teaches me to think on my own. She doesn’t only tell you what you have to improve and work on. She lets you develop your own ear for music. Ms. Elza pays attention to each and every one of her students, not as a group, but looking at their individual selves, and adjusting to everyone’s unique personality. She picks out pieces based on the person who will be playing them, and lets us have a voice in the matter as well. The skills I have learned in these classes, which don’t only apply to piano, will follow me throughout my life. Although due to moving, I won’t be able to keep Ms. Elza as my teacher, she will definitely stay a dear mentor and friend.
Response: Thank you for your review my dear Ms. Savoure!

anastasia pestova: Elza Ritter is an amazing and incredibly gifted piano instructor. She focuses on all aspects of student development including ear and voice training. She is a highly trained pianist herself and is able to play impromptu duets with her students! In my time with her I have progressed in reading sheet music, hand position, posture, and also learned music theory. I highly recommend this piano school !

Fran Travers: All three of my now adult children took piano lessons when they were children. So I have seen many piano teachers and I would rate Professor Ritter as the best of all. Her student recitals are not only enjoyable but are top notch performances by beautiful disciplined children demonstrating Professor Ritter’s Russian technique. As a teacher, she is fun and kind yet disciplined and well structured. I would give her a five star plus rating if there were one.

Natalia Moskovchenko: Ms. Elsa is a great teacher with passion for music and musical education. She inspires her students and shares her love for music with them. Her lessons are always fun and they are not just one-on-one instructions. Sometimes students get together and share their progress in a very easy, no-pressure way with each other. Under her loving but steady guidance her students are thriving!!

Tracy Xia: I have been a life-long admirer of the piano but never got the chance to learn as a child. I started lessons with Ms Ritter on August 19th,2016. Before that, I had taken piano lessons on and off in the last 5 years. In the short 2 months with Ms Ritter, I can already see and hear my progress. Any musician with a good ear can point out the mistakes, but only an experienced piano teacher like Ms Ritter can break down difficult problems and suggest effective methods by which to improve. Ms Ritter is very methodical in her approach and focuses on building a solid foundation upon which students can develop their musical talents. She is also great at keeping students engaged and motivated. But what I love most about Ms Ritter is her dedication and passion for music. It is clear that she's constantly thinking of ways to help her students to improve. Even though she has many students, every time I come to class, she remembers exactly what my issues were from last week, and usually has already prepared material for me to work on to solidify new techniques. Her homework assignments are not just random pieces thrown together hastily, you can clearly see how they compliment one another. I highly recommend Ms Ritter.

Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center: what do users think?

Carlton Jones: Chuck Levins Washington Music Center, has been the most anticipated retail store visit since I was 13 years old. Every local musician I know in DC has spent time and money at Chuck’s. I recently made a purchase and it went as all my transactions made there since approx 1970. This time it was online but a very personal affair, Adam Levin was helpful and more accommodating that an old guy could ask for. It was still like xmas awaiting my package that came overnight and with a wonderful gift. I can honestly say it was the most emotional purchase I’ve made in decades, not the most expensive, not a life changing acquisition just a memory evoking moment that included family members and friends passed on that I think of frequently whom I spent many hours playing music with and having the best times of my life. Me, my family, friends and Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center…. Thanks again Adam, if this is my last purchase please know they have all been the best!

Crystallize And Realize: This place goes above and beyond I'm all categories. Total knowledge, stock, and personal care. You will find your salesman, and he will be yours for decades. Paul in drums is incredible. Also Edwin in Keys, and Mitch up front. Top notch. I feel good arriving, better leaving. Best store in the world. I suggest cutting your credit cards before entering---can be dangerous.

Rachel Ellis: Bought my fiancé a guitar here a year ago. Sales person was friendly and helpful. Good covid protocol for the time. Sales people weren’t pushy and were well informed on guitars. Bought the Taylor GS Mini and it’s been a great guitar. Would definitely check them out if you’re in the market for an instrument. Only downside was slightly outdated equipment/billing systems, but nothing a little patience doesn’t fix.

Richard Capeless: My experience was through an online order and I am here to testify to their exceptional customer service. I had a small problem with a piece of gear I was really excited to get, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate me. General manager Adam Levin reach out to me and oversaw my exchange. That kind of personal touch made it clear that they care about their customers.

Melissa Ratisher: I had tried many different retailers looking for an XDJ RX3, but nobody had them in stock, and people were selling them on EBay for $1k over the retail price. I saw one at Chuck Levin's that was 'open box' so called the store about it, then spoke to Randy who told me they had a brand-new one, unopened, in the store, at the standard retail price. I ordered it immediately (free shipping!), got it in 2 days, still sealed in the box, perfect condition, and it's fantastic! Highly recommend ordering gear from Chuck Levin's. Thank you Randy!

Bryce Wagner: I worked personally with Pete Fleming to order my new bass amp. I saw a post on Reverb for an amp I had been looking for and Pete was very helpful. I’d also like to mention that he made me feel safe making such an expensive purchase over the phone for it to be shipped to my home town. Pete even went back to the warehouse to grab the amp because we both couldn’t believe they actually had one in stock. As soon as I paid, it was removed from reverb and he’s sent me receipts very swiftly to assure it was mine! I would highly recommend this store. If I had one complaint, it’s that it isn’t in my hometown. Haha
Response: So glad we could make this happen Bryce!! Going out the door today. Rock on 🤘🤘

Gary Rosen: Ordered on-line and called when I got there. Brought my purchase right to my car. Shop local! Spent a bunch of time there today with Pete who was super helpful in helping me decide what guitar to consider
Response: Thanks for using our curbside service, Gary! We appreciate you shopping with us.

dylanvs: I ordered a yamaha dtx8k mesh electric kit online. This kit was impossible to find anywhere else backordered on every other music site i went to so i was already happy i found it here. They got it to me quick using a freight company called distribution by air, i think it took just about a week which is good considering it was an entire pallet of boxes. The customer service from both the freight company and chuck levins was great, both companies reached out concerning my delivery making sure i could be there to sign and to let them know id got my shipment. Also the shop pay option for 4 installments is a huge plus! Couldnt ask for more

brian henson: Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center has always been the best music store in this region. Guitar players, including the top players in the world, come here for equipment, repairs, and advice. Best selection and fair prices, but most of all, the most knowledgeable sales people. They know the products, ask you the right questions, and help you find the best solutions for you.
Response: Thanks for the nice review, Brian. The customer ALWAYS comes first at Chuck's!

Mitzo: The staff are amazing, a huge variety of musical equipment, and I managed to get rototoms at over a 90% discount! If you’re in the area I 100% recommend stopping here

Foxes Music Co.: what do users think?

Freddie Dunn: First rate old-school music store. Foxes has all of your music and music education needs, equipment, accessories, method books, and scores. I'm glad a store like this exists nearby. They have a tremendous inventory of folios, scores, books and sheet music for anyone from beginner to seasoned pro. They rent instruments at reasonable rates. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Stores like this are a treasure!

Vassilios Vassiliadis-Laouto Lobby: Fantastic local music store. Customer service is awesome and the manager Dave Belazis always goes above and beyond to help you get the best deal. They also offer musical classes and sell any type of musical instrument, accessories and equipment. I rather support this nice store than other online or other real music shops.

Dale Dean: Extremely professional service allowed me to find the right edition of sheet music that I wanted. And we conferred back and forth by text messages before I even entered the store to pick up the edition. Outstanding and responsive treatment.

Heather Paul: Went looking for a guitar for my bf's birthday; I know nothing about music or guitar shopping, but they helped me pick one out, talked me through pros and cons of each, played samples for me to hear the sound, even tossed in a free pack of strings! And my bf loved the guitar <3 Highly highly HIGHLY recommend

T King: Very cool old school music shop, lotta different instruments, sheet music etc. Not sure how competitive prices on guitar amps are. Fun to browse. Looks like the do lessons and repairs, too.

Eric Henri: Great for lessons, service and equipment. They can order what they don't have in stock. Also love to look at the music books!

Billy Billy: Why you got to be so weird with your comments every time I come in the store with my children. I get that your band geeks or something, but don’t be so creepy and learn how to interact with humans. @Bernard and others need to stop with weird offhand remarks to customers and children in the store. No one needs it and we will take personal insult next time.

Spot Wms: Foxes Music Co has one of the largest selection of music books for all instruments and ALL learning levels. Nice novelty items (socks, tote bags, mouse pads and etc). Music books are competitively priced. Foxes Music Co offers other services as well (lessons, instruments rental/sales). I'm a beginning adult piano player (learned to read music in high school band class). The Essential Elements Piano Theory seems to be the perfect purchase for my current knowledge and playing ability. A family member is learning music also, so I'll be able to pass the music books along! I purchased a lot of music books because I'm trying to discover what works best for my independent learning (supllemented w/ YOUTUBE videos).

aria moshrefi: Came in just to exchange the rental violin for my son. Brian A was so helpful. He showed us the problem was was not the size of the violin but the locations of the tape was not correct. Excellent free assistance by such a nice employee Thank you you so much !

Christine Hill: I went to Foxes music just to come see and admire the store cause of all the instruments. It was my first time going there and usually i’m a anxious mess kind of a person. I was immediately greated by good ol Dave! (Welcoming and friendly) He showed me some books, amps, intruments, etc. demoed some pedals. Not once was there a pressure to buy or anything which was super nice! No sales pitch and I thoroughly appreciated that. I saw this mustang and he showed it to me and all was history! I walked out with a slammin deal and stand in top of that! Thanks so much Dave! Will definitely be coming back!
Response: Thanks for the review! We value your opinion and look forward to working with you again. See you soon!
