Taqueria Habanero: what do users think?
Eve
Eve: I’m back in my city and I couldn’t wait to hit up Taqueria Habanero! I’ve missed it since moving away in 2019. I walked in and was shocked to see the new renovations! Loved it. If you’re looking for good, traditional, closest to the real thing Mexican food, look no further. I used to pop in and order 3 tacos and 1 sope and was never disappointed. This time around, I ordered the Chilaquiles and was so happy I did. This is a good place for a small group. Also the drinks are good! Everything from Tequila to Mezcal.
Miguel Curiel
Miguel Curiel: Among the best Mexican places in DC. Not only is the place colorful and plays Latin music which contributes to providing a folkloric experience, but the food and the drinks are absolutely tasty. Besides the tacos, the tortas and the chilaquiles are highly recommended dishes.
Bria Nicole
Bria Nicole: Pretty decent food and good service. Please do not waste your money on the margarita. You will be paying for juice. I had the birrira quesadilla . I am surprised it was made with corn tortilla, never had it that way. Would have been better if made with flour. The chips & guac were good (not pictured.)
Larry “Big Schlim” Mcleod
Larry “Big Schlim” Mcleod: This is the second time I’ve been to this spot within 2 weeks!! That should resonate with you...this spots food is good good!! The first time I went, I was so impressed that a week, and a half later I started craving their food!! Located at 3710 14th St., N.W. Washington D.C. you’ll find @habanerodc !! With indoor, and outdoor seating this places food prices technically qualify for my BIG SCHLIMS LITE POCKET MEALS reviews, where I find delectable eats for $10, and under. Their tacos start off at $3.50 each (with the shrimp, and salmon tacos going for $4). They do have a wide variety of tacos too, like their Hongos tacos(Vegan mushroom tacos), Pescado tacos (Fish tacos), and Tinga Poblano tacos (pictured-spiced shredded chicken tacos $3.50 ea.). Within my 2 visits I also copped their Camaron taco (pictured-Shrimp taco with avocado and Pico de Gallo $4.00), their Bistec taco (pictured-steak taco with cilantro, and onion $3.50), and their Pollo taco (pictured-chicken taco $3.50). If you are willing to spend a buck extra...you have a delicious Lite Pocket meal!! Every last taco (on corn tortillas) was BOMB!! Ok I also snatched their chicken burrito (pictured-on a flour tortilla with yellow rice, black beans, guac, salsa verde, crema Fresca, and queso fresco $10). Let’s say that my go to burrito spot has changed!! Lastly I picked up their Torta de Birria con Consome (pictured-steak meat, with cheese, and peppers on bread $13). Now this sandwich is deceiving. It looked a tad bit dry, but I realized that, that’s what the Consome (a beef broth) was for. I dipped it..deliciousness!! Get it!! Customer service was so so. The first time they were decent. The second time they looked at me as if I didn’t belong in there. Parking is rough. Period. This is my taco spot. That’s it. #tacos #birria #chickentacos #tingadepollo #deliciousfood #bigschlimsreviews #burritos #14thstreetdc #goodfood #torta #mynewgoto #funfood #affordablefood #goodfood #foodie #gothere #thatsit
Bob M
Bob M: I ordered chicken mole that was pretty good. Their menu is not extensive except if you want a fancy drink. The waitress could have been more friendly but their may have been a language barrier.
Elliott Temkin
Elliott Temkin: Came for a Cinco de Mayo lunch feast and it was excellent. Memelas, tacos, and sope were all delicious. Meats were tender and flavorful (al pastor was particularly great). Washed it down with a glass from their excellent mezcal list. Great spot!
ValQuay
ValQuay: I loved everything about this place it was so good and inexpensive. I will definitely come back when I’m visiting
Min Z
Min Z: A homey feeling restaurant offers authentic Mexican food. The service could be better if staffs paid more attention on customers.
Brie W.
Brie W.: Okay, we ate our food the second it hit the table so I didn’t get a picture. I got a steak quesadilla and just WOW. My tummy is beyond content. And don’t you dare skip the dessert!!!! Their tres leches cake is so delicious. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it.

Oyamel Cocina Mexicana: what do users think?
Aimee Lim
Aimee Lim: The service here is quick and friendly staff. Our host was excellent and give us some brief explanations and suggestions what to order. She did not rushed us when we order. Although it was a bit of wait to get a table for 6 person, it was worth the wait. Food were delicious and authentic Mexican. Prices are reasonable. Will come back here for our next DC visit.
Kimberly Giang
Kimberly Giang: Enjoyed dinner. Loved the fun energetic atmosphere. We made reservations here for dinner. Loved that the chips and salsa were complimentary and placed on our table when we sat down. The guacamole was really good. I had the enchiladas and my husband had a chicken taco and a beef taco. Everything was good. Service was great.
Peter Fernandez
Peter Fernandez: The food is quite tasty. When we visited, though, the service was a bit uneven. The food seemed to rush out, but our server would disappear for long stretches. We highly recommend the guacamole. It was yummy, but we ordered it spicy and it came out mild. The chips and salsa were excellent. We also had t cevice and Vera Cruz tuna tacos. Both were great.
Jon and Amanda Lewis
Jon and Amanda Lewis: Definitely worth a visit. We had a great evening here. The server was kind and friendly. The food was amazing. They bring you warm chips and salsa, which are great. We tried two different margaritas. The Serrano Margarita was a spicy delicious kick in the face :) The Al Gusto was good as well. All 3 tacos were excellent. Really well done. And the place feels reasonably priced. The decor is super eclectic and fun as well, butterflies everywhere. We would highly recommend this place.
Beth Zboran
Beth Zboran: The place was busy but we were able to get a table. They warned us that the food portions are small so we ordered a few things. It was good to get a taste of multiple dishes. We also ate quite a few chips with the spicy homemade salsa. Our wait staff was very attentive and the food was very good.
Zeyu Hu
Zeyu Hu: Oyamel is a solid Mexican restaurant. Great service and unique ways of serving certain food - such as eating guac in a homemade tortilla! We got the tasting menu because we couldn’t decide what to get. We got such a variety of different food that it was truly a tasting menu. The only thing that we didn’t like was that the tasting menus were individually portioned, but rather 2-3 people would have to share a plate. We got two pitchers of margaritas and that was a solid drink. Be sure to book this in advance as it can get quite busy during dinner time!
India Lindsay
India Lindsay: Average food and environment. Our waiter kept mentioning how “authentic” the food was but it’s really just average American-ish Mexican food. The octopus platter was good, I did enjoy the sauces it came with. We tried every single taco they offer. Nothing special. The beef one is fairly oily and heavy and was literally just beef in a tortilla. The grilled chicken had a good flavor. The fish was decent. The shredded pork was pretty good but could do with more flavorful toppings. I’m not a fan of vegetarian tacos but their veggie ones were honestly my favorite.
Shaina Z
Shaina Z: I thoroughly enjoyed reading the quote in regards to the homemade corn tortilla tacos and chips “Our masa starts its journey in Mexico, with the family farms that grow heirloom corn. Every day, our team cooks and grinds this corn in-house, to give you a taste of this treasured tradition.” Super vibrant ambience to include a summer seasonal menu. And they’re amazing Wednesday drink special. Just a quick walk from the Gallery Place Metro. Or enjoy the National Gallery of Art then walk over for a nice lunch.
Jonathan Kline
Jonathan Kline: A very delicious spot to dine. The menu is based on small plates. The tacos are very delicious, plan on ordering 2-3 for a meal. The Sunday Brunch is very yummy. They have a great rewound mezcal menu too. They do not have a children’s menu. The waiter suggested we order beef and rice for our son, so we did and were billed for a steak dinner ($21, the rest of us ate for less then $15). It was delicious but not a meal meant for kids. The salsa and guacamole are very delicious. Get the Rojo soup, a great winter warm up.
Ashley Manning
Ashley Manning: The experience with the hosts and servers was awesome here. Everyone was very kind and clear; they accommodated us by seating us at a booth when we requested it, and we were asked about dietary restrictions right away. There are many small plates to choose from and share. There was imported sparkling water, which I loved. The tone of Oyamel was warm and cozy, with vintage films projected on a nearby wall and some nice mood music. My partner and I shared a variety of different tacos and I also had a bowl of the chicken and adobo soup, which was incredible and came served with cilantro, lime, and avocado. Best of all, the check at the end was way less than we expected it to be. We didn’t drink this time, but there are some lovely cocktail selections that just sounded delightful. An elevated feel without any stuffiness. We’ll be back. Note that masking is required to enter and so is proof of vaccination, in keeping with the current order in DC. They are taking care to be safe, which is great.

El Sol Restaurante & Tequileria: what do users think?
SophiaAntoinette Jackson
SophiaAntoinette Jackson: The water was tasty… the margaritas we’re awesome!!! I throughly enjoyed the food. The customer service was good and the restaurant was packed. I would come back here for sure. I love mole and they do it right here.
Miguel Curiel
Miguel Curiel: Best Mexican place in DC so far and that alone can grant a 5-star rating. Worth noting that outdoor sitting has a nice view but indoors could use some music to create a more pleasant experience. Other than that, food and drinks are good and authentic!
Cory Schwab
Cory Schwab: Delicious food and awesome margaritas! Chips and salsa were great too! Service was a little slow but did not bother us.
Corinne
Corinne: We stopped by El Sol Restaurant & Tequileria after paddle boarding on the Potomac and wandering around Georgetown. El Sol was ranked one of the the top 10 taco spots in the DMV so we had to give it a try! We sat down in a corner booth and were quickly greeted by El Sol’s employee of the month, El Insecto. 🤪 It was the authentic taco experience we were looking for. We started with margaritas and guac that left us speechless and inspired to try and recreate at home. Then it was time for the tacos. Between the two of us we tried the Chicken, Shrimp, Steak, Chorizo and Pastor. They were all tasty but we loved the Chorizo and Chicken. The tacos came on perfectly crispy corn tortillas which we have a found to be a delicious rarity.
Tejas Vernekar
Tejas Vernekar: I was in DC and this was my go to place for food. Amazing grilled Oysters. Lots of creative items and drinks on the menu. Shrimp in chipotle sauce was good too. Would visit again next time I go.
Joel Lemus
Joel Lemus: I had tostadas de tinga, an horchata and pozole and it tasted great. Took the waiter forever to get my check once I was done so -1 star
David Hong
David Hong: Pretty good restaurant. Like their salsa for their Chips. The food is authentic enough and spicy. Be prepared for spice! Their prices have risen so be prepared. Ultimately the food is pretty good.
Paul Hudson
Paul Hudson: This is some damn good Mexican food!! The burritos and tacos taste delicious and have a bit of a kick too!! Highly recommend!!
Ali Elreichouni
Ali Elreichouni: Tasty food with nice outdoor seating. Staff was also nice, polite, and quick. The only reason I’m giving four stars is the serving of guacamole was rather small for the price (11 dollars at the time this review was written), but otherwise great experience.

Cactus Cantina: what do users think?
Jonathan Robertson
Jonathan Robertson: Came to the area after visiting the Washington National Cathedral. I am from Florida and found the food and flavors to be average. Service was fine. Prices are right for the area. Lots of people and cool atmosphere.
Pat S
Pat S: We visited Catcus Cantina today, the service was very average. Unenthusiastic waitstaff, the food came out fast, hot and sizzling. However this place is not authentic mexican food. Frozen Margs are completely tasteless. I had the carne asada it was unseasoned the Saltado was salty. I only liked the chips and shrimp quesadilla. I definitely will not return or recommend.
Maria D. Villars
Maria D. Villars: Service was great - food not so much.
Gon Freecss
Gon Freecss: 5 stars. Service here is amazing, The food was really good and the waiters were very respectful and friendly. It was very comfortable to eat here especially with family and friends, definitely will come again. Towards the end I actually lost my phone and a lot of staff helped me find it and they we’re VERY quick about the situation they found the phone and got the phone back to me in below 10 minutes on the same night. I don’t remember her name but the waiter that helped and served our table was incredibly nice and professional about the situation. From the red scratchy iPhone case you guys found.
J Cook
J Cook: Warm flour tortillas are wonderful. Portions are great! Salmon was fixed perfectly. Tortilla chips warm and fresh with great salsa. Really enjoyed the chicken & vegetable fajitas! Would love to come back!
Ted Lyons
Ted Lyons: I have been going here for a long time. It’s a great spot. Don’t let tourists and people from Texas convince you it’s not good. You won’t find anything better including all the spots due north on the red line. Plenty of fresh salsa and chips. Delicious food. Fun atmosphere. An awesome place.

Guapo's Restaurant: what do users think?
Aaron Angeles
Aaron Angeles: Today not so good. Tasty but made my tummy upset. The fajitas beef tasted great but it was under cooked. They burnt it and returned it well done. I asked for medium. Everything was ok for texmex. The place was packed. The tres leches was not as fantastic as it was in the summer. It must be a new baker. The top frosting was compacted onto the cake as if it fitted a container and freezing. The bread section was more granular. The coffee seemed a bit bland not as rich as in the summer. I would come just for coffee and cake. In general it tasted good but i got sick.
Alexander M.
Alexander M.: Great Mexican food! They have a large menu with many good options. Classics like tacos, enchiladas and fajitas are sure to please. I found that they are very fast bringing the food out too which is really nice. Plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating as well. Excellent service rounds it all out!
Cee S
Cee S: Service was horrible. Had to ask for my change.Paid $25 for “nachos” and received maybe 10 chips. With no toppings. Dissatisfied.
Ben Roberts
Ben Roberts: Food is quite good, a little on the expensive side for the quality. We had a big group and they tried charging us for $30 more food than we ordered. They don’t split checks and so had I not carefully examined the receipt and asked all 13 people that came with us what they ordered we would have gotten overcharged a decent amount. They did correct it for us but seemed a little shady.
Syerra Carigo
Syerra Carigo: I’ve been here many times and the food is always good! I tried their “Tacos Mexicanos” and their Sangrita today. The food and drinks were great and the servers were all friendly. Great restaurant right off the metro. Highly recommend!
Andres Mendoza
Andres Mendoza: Food and drinks were pretty good. Wait staff took care of us well. Ambiance was very nice and place was clean. The tableside guacamole was also fresh and good. They have outdoor seating with heated lamps. I would recommend and come again.

Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana: what do users think?
Miguel Curiel
Miguel Curiel: Authentic Mexican cantina vibe. Went on a Friday evening, although food could be tastier, it is compensated by offering cheap drinks, great Latin music and a colorful ambiance.
Harsha P.
Harsha P.: Great flavors with spatial and ample outdoor seating. Service is friendly/attentive and they have free chips and salsa to open any order over $4. They also have $6 margaritas during happy hour. We often go for their tacos and tortas - see their al pastor pictured is especially tasty!ig: @harshaeats
Enfoc Art
Enfoc Art: Huarache de huitlacoche. Corn smut contains much more protein than regular corn does. And mezcalero does really good. Always very welcome with delicious salsa and chips, good time and good service.
Bhavishya venkitaraman
Bhavishya venkitaraman: They have absolutely mouth watering tacos and enchiladas. The mole and habanero slasa are packed with flavor and spice. The margaritas are a little pricey, but overall a repeat destination for great food.
Aleida Gallangos
Aleida Gallangos: Whenever I visit my friends in D.C I look the opportunity to stop in the Mezcalero, because is the closest to the authentic Mexican food, the guacamole, tacos, mole poblano, are so tasty, but my favorites are the huaraches with huitlacoche and nopales and Of cure ! the traditional margaritas are so good.Generally very hard working staff who deserve a good tip.
Shareen Beech
Shareen Beech: One of my favorite neighborhood places to eat. Love the Tamarind Rita & Chicken Enchiladas. The muscles with chorizo on the appetizer menu is amazing.
Adam Marshall
Adam Marshall: Extensive menu! Great tacos.
Nur Mannan
Nur Mannan: Came for ONE piece of tres leche cake because my friend was feeling down, well…let’s just say the customer service was 0 stars. It took them over 30 minutes to take ONE piece of tres leche cake from the fridge and place it in my hand. But that was not what disappointed me, it is the two servers who were absolutely unapologetic and rude. I cannot believe how rude they were and kept singing a song and pretending I don’t exist, now I am not sure if they are racist and treated me that way because I am not Hispanic.

MI VIDA: what do users think?
Ben Vance
Ben Vance: The staff (especially the hostess) were extremely nice and accommodating. We originally sat outside but realized it was getting too cold for us. So she found us a spot we could move inside which was an excellent, warm spot. The food was very good as well as the margaritas. Recommend checking it out.
Shriya Amit
Shriya Amit: We were planning to get some appetizers and landed in this restaurant accidentally. Happy hour is served only at the bar and it was full. So we ended up at the booth. Great ambience but okay food. Had ceviche and fish tacos with a cocktail. Our server kept saying you must try our “MOST DELICIOUS Guacamole”, don’t fall for it. It was freshly made but I make much better guacamole. My husband loves guacamole so he always orders it but $14 for a small bowl, not worth it.
DEZAREE JOHNSON
DEZAREE JOHNSON: Mi Vida is now my favorite place to dine. I honestly have been there 3 times in the past week. The staff is always amazing and very patient with me lol. I can’t remember my first waitresses name but the last two times I had Wendy And Louise with his fine self. It sits right on the water. So there’s an amazing view. I will forever be a customer at this place.
Eric Lee
Eric Lee: Prompt Seating, waiter very attentive. Food from, appetizers to dinner, very fresh. Food was tasty, guacamole fresh, chips and salsa also no complaints. Price average+ (pp) for location. Won’t be disappointed in taste, service and wait.
Tahoma Lewis
Tahoma Lewis: Had an excellent time at lunch. Our waiter was prompt, courteous and knew the protocol for removing flatware and dinnerware. This place has proven itself again to be a nice place to go for a fantastic meal.
Angel Fross
Angel Fross: Pretty good! I definitely enjoyed my experience, but it wasn’t the absolute best food I’ve had, especially for the price. This is a good place to try once, but I don’t think it’s worth a second visit. Just not super notable, but the food is alright!
Leah Underwood
Leah Underwood: Yummy Mexican food with Happy Hour if you sit at the bar. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t serve happy hour for dine in. Beautiful scenery along the wharf. Known for their margaritas and guacamole. Everything is pretty much ala carte including the chips and salsa. Large bar when you enter with many delicious food options including a children menu.

Gregory Alan
Gregory Alan: Delicious! This is a great brunch spot. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very trendy and their dishes are packed with flavor. Pictured below are the huevos rancheros, churros, and a mussels salad that is no longer on the menu. I am only giving them four stars because the mussels dish did have quite a bit of sand in it which indicates to me that they were not washed thoroughly. I would definitely go back!
jhalitza pimentel
jhalitza pimentel: Came here for the $25 3-course brunch deal. The waffle is an extra $4 & the churro an extra $2 and if you want a drink that’s an extra amount 😅 So total may come to $40-50 for the brunch deal 😶 (per person) In all we had no complaints it was good, just check the menu before you go to make sure you like their menu. It had different things I’ve never really seen before. Got the Carne Apache for app it was so delish (probably the best app option in my opinion) My husband got the Tocino- literally just bacon 😅 Entrees I got the hamburguesa & fries, it was good but I wasn’t a fan of the seasoning on the fries. I’d recommend without seasoning lol maybe just salt. My husband got the chicken and waffles, asked for the eggs to be scrambled and he enjoyed it. Dessert I got milk chocolate ice cream, not bad but had a texture to it. I enjoyed it but if you’re picky with food you might not. My husband got the churro and it was ok. Tasted good while eating the ice cream though😊 P.s they have a QR code and you order & pay on there, the server checks on you every so often to make sure you don’t need anything
Lucie Wollenhaupt
Lucie Wollenhaupt: Haven’t had such good food in a long time! We basically had everything vegetarian from the menu. The red salsa was awesome as well as the cauliflower tacos and quesadillas. Not the standard Mexican food you can get at every chipotle but really good composed dishes with amazing tastes. Although it is rather expensive I would come back at any time!
Ty Davis
Ty Davis: Cauliflower Tacos; steam the cauliflower for a short period and you’ll have a winner. Quesadilla; On Point and the Mole is superb! Old fashion; Top Tier flavor and presentation. Espita Sour; The height of my experience at 5:20 PM Mezunta; Flavor forward. A finish you won’t expect. I think this is the best surprise for your date. Mi Cherry Amore; The sweetest cocktail of them all. The plus about Espita is you can over indulge or be modest… Overall Espita is a must visit experience for Mexican in DC.
Natalie Powers
Natalie Powers: I loved the QR I’m sad they took it away. But the food the vibes and the staff are a vibe. I wish I knew the names of the staff so I could give them a shout out. But everyone was amazing thank you for a great experience.
Response: Hi Natalie, We have switched to full service so that we can provide a better experience for our guests. A lot of feedback mentioned that an overwhelming amount of guests wanted full service and paper menus again. We appreciate you and thank you for the kind words!

MXDC Cocina Mexicana | By Chef Todd English: what do users think?
Ardavan Tookaloo
Ardavan Tookaloo: The food was just OK! I got the steak for lunch which as you can see was some black beans and a little white rice and a piece of avocado. There was not much taste to it for the price. It was similar to bowl of steak, the only difference was with my food I asked for medium which came medium well! And the bowl is always well done. Anyway, tried it once but that was it. However I liked the interior and staff are quick.
Rebecca Boulanger
Rebecca Boulanger: Came here for appetizers and drinks and had a great time! We sat at the bar and the vibe was fantastic! The margaritas were very smooth and delicious (my favorite was the strawberry) and the quesadillas were also really good. Definitely would come back and try dinner here!
Logan Gore
Logan Gore: Found this place when I was visiting DC in DC and came back again this week! The chef and staff are great with food allergies and the food is amazing!! I got the guacamole 🥑, tacos (chicken, pork shoulder and the veggie- all sooo good even without the sauce so I could eat it with my allergies!). I don’t drink and their fresca choices are delicious.
Itsjustmenai Naima
Itsjustmenai Naima: The decor and drinks were perfect. The food not so much. I did visit during happy hour so I tried everything off that menu. I might come back to try dinner. I will say happy hour is the best time to try new restaurants.
Ruslman
Ruslman: Professional and helpful staff. Warm but distant ambience. Flavorful food and drinks, but the meal was not the best I have had. For drinks we started with the Blackberry Cilantro Margherita which was a great way to start, very flavorful and refreshing. We tried the strawberry daiquirita which was good but a little flat. For starters we had the seasonal guacamole and the mariscada quesadilla. The guacamole was bursting with flavor and fresh; the quesadilla was slightly over cooked, but tasty. We followed with the MX fajitas and the Salmon. Both were tasty, but the sides served with the salmon were cold. Overall, it was a positive experience, but not the best I have had.
Alfonso A. Rivera Cordero
Alfonso A. Rivera Cordero: I love this restaurant. Great atmosphere, awesome decoration, food is great, the soup has a lovely spicy. Also I try their mezcal cocktail and it was intrigue and lovely good. I would love to come Backstreet.
James Flores
James Flores: Very good, quality Mexican meal. Loved the white queso and the fact that it comes with soft corn tortillas to dip in. Enchiladas were delicious and the burrito was decent! Excellent mezcal cocktail as well - a "Mezcalita"
Patrick MacMillan
Patrick MacMillan: Was uneasy on going here after seeing some of the reviews. However we were politely greeted upon entry into this lovely looking restaurant. The staff was friendly and patient with my in-laws who barely speak any English. The cocktails were pricey and somewhat small but you get your money’s worth of alcohol for sure. That same theme continues with the food. Portions are on the smaller side but are extremely flavorful and satisfying. The flavors and dishes are family friendly and also friendly to newcomers to Mexican food. The menu is also good for those who want an authentic Mexican tasting experience. Overall friendly staff, delicious food and drinks that may seem expensive but you get exactly what you pay for.
renee vuz
renee vuz: We stopped in for lunch while in Washington D.C. on April 9, 2022. The restaurant had a great atmosphere. We were dressed causally and that was fine. Guacamole was fabulous. We loved our meals. Their margaritas were out of this world. The waitstaff were so welcoming. Highly recommend.

Miguel Curiel
Miguel Curiel: Picturesque place, decent food, excellent brunch deal. Went in one Saturday and the place offered a magnificent brunch deal: $26 per person for one hour of sitting, bottomless drinks and one meal. We actually ended up spending 4 hours rather than one with no extra fee thanks to our kind waiter. Bottomless drinks were great, especially the michelada which is an authentic beer-based Mexican drink. Only con of Alero would be the food because servings were good (i.e, big) but the taste was average. Lastly, place’s decoration is accurate to the source material so a Mexican vibe is indeed ensued!
Nu S
Nu S: No frills Mexican eatery! The tacos conchinita are different than listed in the menu so this is why I gave 4 out of 5 stars. The tacos Al pastor were very good and a perfect combination of pineapple and carne. The price is very reasonable for DC! Basic dishes and quick service.
Scott Cornelius
Scott Cornelius: GREAT tacos al pastor, and good margaritas! The vibe is very casual classic Mexican restaurant.
Margaret Lima
Margaret Lima: We went there with my kids and my mom. We ordered and the food came really fast and the waitress was nice and the lady that brought the drinks was friendly and nice, she even took a picture for us. The food was delicious, great flavor! Price was a little high but it was worth it. I will definitely go back.
Kayode Yussuf
Kayode Yussuf: We visited for lunch around Halloween and it is obvious that the Mexicans do not joke with their culture. Food was nice, restaurant was not crowded so we were able to enjoy our meals
Chris Chavez
Chris Chavez: This is not too bad of a Mexican restaurant. I had the chicken enchiladas covered with mole sauce. The rice and beans were good, the enchiladas were a little cold, but had a good flavor. The drinks were cold and the waiters were awesome. The queso was really good, I would definitely recommend, and would go again.
M.
M.: WONDERFUL service here. So friendly and accommodating. This place has the best vibes in D.C. Go for a nice and lowkey dinner out. Good food, especially the chips and salsa. It was my first time eating here and it was a great first impression.
Claudia Luna
Claudia Luna: Our new favorite Mexican restaurant! The vibes were so colorful and happy and the staff were very nice and helpful. They have my new favorite salsa and guac in the area and we really enjoyed the tacos and fajitas! Huge plus that the chips and salsa were free!

El Chucho - Cocina Superior: what do users think?
Khala Grace
Khala Grace: Finding a new place to eat is always an adventure in itself. For a late dinner, we chance upon El Chucho. One cannot go wrong with Mexican cuisine. The menu may be short, but the food is good. I enjoyed a fresh vegetarian burrito with cooked mushrooms and peppers. Although the table ordered a side of rice and beans, I was well satiated with the burrito alone. My sisters ordered different taco dishes: one with seasoned chicken and the other a seared Mahi Mahi. The tacos come in a set of two. Although the shells are petite, the tacos are layered well with fresh ingredients. EL Chucho has a long list of alcoholic concoctions. Additionally, they feature homemade soda ranging from tropical flavors to mixes with spicy pepper notes. Overall, the restaurant is pleasant to try. They have plenty of outdoor seating.
Ben Multak
Ben Multak: Come in here for a drink (or as many as you can handle) but also stay here for the food. Awesome tequila and mezcal served by friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. What more could you ask for. Haven’t had a bad thing on the menu and the food is usually very quick. Fun neighborhood spot that is now also open late night.
Mark Bender
Mark Bender: Just got to DC and decided we want Mexican fare. Looked at the google reviews and listing and found this great hole-in-the -wall. What a fantastic place! They have street side seating so we can enjoy the warm weather. And the food was the best I think I ever had. I ordered the dinner feature tacos Birria Quesa tacos and they were fantastic. The flavors and the portion, there were two big stuffed tacos. The guacamole was outstanding. I don’t like extra spice and all of the food I chose was packed with flavor. You will love this place.
C Polanco
C Polanco: Authentic Mexican food in DC - what a treat. Great prices; great drink selection and the staff are truly friendly. Thanks for the recommendation Lonely Planet !!
Response: Yay!
Isaiah Sarju
Isaiah Sarju: Good happy hour deals and an OK mezcal selection. Really good open air flow when the front is open. I like that the window acts as bar seating while getting that hybrid indoor/outdoor vibe.
Gwenaëlle Dufour
Gwenaëlle Dufour: Definitely not my favorite Mexican restaurant. But they have fast service, ok food, great bartending and I love their micheladas!
Eimeel Castillo
Eimeel Castillo: We ordered a delivery of tacos al pastor and burrito al pastor. Instead of roasted pork shoulders with pineapple we received a soggy ground beef taco. This is a scam and a terrible offense to Mexican food. Never ordering from them.

Guapo's Restaurant: what do users think?
catch_hug
catch_hug: We experienced a fast and delicious lunch for a good price. Our waitress was as very fast, friendly and attentive. The food was perfect cooked and spiced accordingly. Toilets a bit overdone but clean. L really liked the fresh taco machine where you can watch tacos being produced. Cheers!
Sherrine M. Thompson
Sherrine M. Thompson: A friend who was visiting from out of town and I dined at Guapo’s a couple of weeks ago. We both remarked at the large portion sizes. We could have ordered one dish and shared 😀. The food was good and so was the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was quite busy on the day we dined but we were seated promptly and served within a reasonable amount of time. The wait staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely dine here again.
Candace Monae
Candace Monae: This traveling foodie was more than impressed by Guapos. It’s location is amongst other popular restaurants in the area. We were welcomed with great energy and seated quickly. Water, chips, and dip were brought to the table. I personally wasn’t a fan of the house salsa. Not because it was bad just not my forte. Let me say this loud and proud….GET THE HORCHATA. No questions asked, it tasted homemade and flavorful. The best I have had personally. Our table was cleaned off often and water poured without even asking. We ordered a steak bowl and shrimp tacos. They were both a solid 10 out of 10. The ingredients were fresh, the steak well seasoned, and the portions appropriate. Enjoyed my meal, service, and this restaurant.
Elizabeth T.
Elizabeth T.: We came for lunch and honestly got so full we had to leave half the food. Healthy sized portions, quick service and a good drink menu. The salsa for the complimentary chips was … not it. We ordered the fundito with chorizo which was amazing, though the onions could have been chopped up a bit more. I ordered the seafood enchilada but ate it before I took a picture. The spicy margaritas were exactly what I needed.
Emma Rose Wooten
Emma Rose Wooten: Mediocre. Our service was not good. The process of arriving, sitting down, ordering, and getting our food took over 2 hours while people around us were served much more quickly. The fajitas were good though.
Kenny T
Kenny T: Customer service is Amazing!!! The food and the drinks were SOOOO GOOD!! Great place to chill and hang out with friends/family! Highly recommended
Helen Molina
Helen Molina: This restaurant needs to do better with their food quality. It might look good in the picture but it was aweful. We waited 50 minutes for our food, rice was cold, i ordered the guapos carnitas, it was dry and cold eveything was just a mess. I returned my plate and they brought it back like if they just placed it the microwave. The meat was chewy, potatos tasted old. It was just not what guapos its about. If you ever want to try good food from guapos go to Rio’s in Gaithersburg thats were the real tex mex food is at. It was my fiancé birthday so we wanted to try them at washington harbor infront the water you know and i was going to let them know so they can sing happy birthday but thank God i heard them before, they had no energy they were off beat. It was not the guapos vibe that i always get from Gaithersburg. If you dont know anything about tex- mex food feel free to go here you”ll like it since you dont know any better!!
Jose Quiles
Jose Quiles: I had the shrimp appetizer, which was delicious. I also ordered oven pork roast, which was a little salty, not impressed at all. Drinks from the bar were good waitress was slow.
Gaby Caballero
Gaby Caballero: A must have brunch in front Potomac river. Food was spectacular. Our server Jackie and all the staff provide a great service. Fair prices. Good coffee. Highly recommended!

DC Corazon Fonda & Tequileria: what do users think?
Daniela Ochoa Gonzalez
Daniela Ochoa Gonzalez: Best authentic green mole we have tried in USA. Real tamarind pulp in your margarita, many ratatouille moments here for sure! Do not miss the churros
Lani
Lani: The food was great, The server was friendly and the drinks were strong. This felt like a hidden gem. Everything is served on blue corn tortillas, which are sweater than white tortillas. Only problem was since we were outside, flies kept landing on our food and in out cups 😩 besides that 10/10. I’ve had their tacos several times and so far my favorite proteins in order are: steak, carnitas, shrimp, chicken, barbacoa, fried fish and al pastor. You really can’t go wrong with any choice.
Danika Scott
Danika Scott: First time experience was beyond amazing! TJ beyond hospitable. The bar wasn’t open but as first time guests he allowed us to sit at the bar and served two FABULOUS drinks! The Mango Mule ( spicy thang) and the Cenote Azul ( simply divine and strong)! The handmade blue corn tortillas were to die for and the churros!!! Oh don’t get me started! This place is a MUST GO!!
Bri S
Bri S: Food was good, although I redid the presentation a little for instagram reasons, you get everything you need for a tasty lunch. I had chips & salsa, a margarita, the Arracheras with filet mignon &, churros. Salsa is a sauce & not pico or chunky & u don’t get much of it. Marg was just ok. I added the leftover salsa & extra pico to my steak. The menu says the churros comes with strawberry but they didn’t serve it to me initially, had to ask for it. It’s a must have for the churros which a would be very sweet without it. Good service on a slow day.
Gabriel Mata
Gabriel Mata: Simply put, EAT HERE. I frequent this local restaurant. The staff is friendly, the interior design is attractive (take those selfies), and your fur babies are welcomed. All that aside, it has been exciting to see the menu develop. I’ve had about half of the dishes and all the tacos. If you like big portions, go for the main dishes. The arranchera de carne asada is phenomenal. I recommend the pollo en molé rojo, sope de carnitas, the enchiladas, cóctel de pulpo. For desert, the pastel de maíz was spectacular. You won’t go wrong, come with an open mind and an appetite. I love nice strong drinks and I definitely got that. I look forward to what else they will introduce, I have some suggestions ha ha. I welcome and recommend this as a Mexican and foodie.

Anafre DC: what do users think?
Mia Speight
Mia Speight: A small group of friends and I googled for a nice place to eat near a summit we attended in Washington DC. We agreed on Mexican food at Anafra because it was highly rated with nice mouth- watering pictures. We walked in to cool and attentive staff that seated us immediately. I like the fact that the pictures with food items matched exactly. They took special care of my friend due her food allergies. This restaurant has authentic Central American, Latino American servers and chefs. They humored by letting make my order in Spanish and my friends raved about their enchiladas. My salad was cassoulet and the hand made dressings were De-licious.
Miguel Curiel
Miguel Curiel: Best place for Mexican sea food in DC so far. Besides the vibrant ambiance and the drinks and tacos, a noteworthy mention has to be made for the ceviche and aguachile. The ceviche is a dish shared with other cultures, but the aguachile - which is more raw, juicier, and spicier than a ceviche - is endemic to Mexican culture and Anafre comes as close as can be to nailing it.
Ixia Mejias
Ixia Mejias: Out of town visiting DC area. Got recommended this restaurant on google BY FAR BEST Mexican food I have Tasted in a LONG time ! Hits so many taste buds and the flavors to the food is amazing, well complimented plates over all. Server was super nice and attentive. Ordered the “shrimp alambre.” and as entree ordered the “Nachos al carbon.” All an all 10/10 check this place out !!
Chris Barber
Chris Barber: This was hands down the best place I ate while visiting. The submarino was absolutely sublime, the calamari was great, and the drinks were masterfully crafted. The staff was all very friendly and exceptionally quick. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Josh Axelrod
Josh Axelrod: A really fun spot for Mexican fare, which can be hard to come by in DC. Great vibes and fun drinks plus delicious Mexican-style pizzas.
chanyaya chanyapat
chanyaya chanyapat: One of my new favorite Mexican restaurants. I order calamari and salad. Very very impressed about food and drink is great!!
Caroline Driggers
Caroline Driggers: This is one of my favorite DC spots. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is inviting and full of culture. The quality of food and service has been consistent throughout every visit. I highly recommend this spot! Top recommendations are their carne asada and the camaron aguachile appetizer!
Yesica Reyes
Yesica Reyes: 10 out of 10. Best Mexican pizza EVER!!! Avocado. Chorizo. Shrimp.🤯 Seafood. Any day!!! Definitely recommend😋 Their nachos are also extremely delicious, & their drinks menu and Mezcal options are also very impressive. If you are a pizza lover, try their Golfo (Seafood) Pizza🍤. You won’t find anything that comes close to it. Taste amazing (has a little spicy kick to it), price is extremely generous for the quality of the ingredients. Will keep coming back just so I can have another slice of this oven baked seafood deliciousness. Again and Again 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Los Cuates: what do users think?
eriko p
eriko p: This review is for the margarita and chips and salsa only. My husband and I just wanted a place to rest our feet and have a drink. It was on a Friday afternoon so Happy Hour prices made my margarita reasonable. Cute restaurant. Nice friendly staff. I would recommend returning here for their tasty strong margaritas!
Kyriea Smith
Kyriea Smith: My second time here and it’s even better than i remember. The service is friendly and quick, great atmosphere with great music, nice and cozy as well. The food is so fresh and so delicious, i’m already craving it again. We got the nachos platter for an appetizer, and holy- is was so good, honestly it could be a meal for one(pictured below). Highkey forgot what the name of the dish i ordered is, but it’s definitely Fajitas and they were definitely extremely good (pictured below). Last time i got a burrito and my friend got one this time (pictured as well), it was phenomenal. 10/10 will be coming again, still my favorite spot for mexican cuisine in Georgetown!
Todd M
Todd M: Family stopped in during a day trip. Nice atmosphere. Looked like it was going to be really good. Food arrived. Many ordered the shredded beef. After eating most of the burrito, my daughter discovered an unpleasant surprise. It was several chunks of the ventricles to a heart. Hopefully beef, but definitely the heart. Server took these tidbits to the kitchen for inspection. The only explanation given was that it was part of to cow. There were six people, 3 had the shredded beef. They did at least take those of the bill. It appears that they are using the cheapest parts of the cow for their shredded beef to turn more of a profit. Who knows what else was in there. I can only imagine. Times are tough, I get it, but this is unacceptable.
Anna
Anna: Half empty restaurants on Friday night will remain half empty Forever on the weekends simply because first half a second of interaction with the host was less than Pleasant. He practically barked at me telling me that the only place I could sit down is near the window and although there were plenty of other Empty Tables he said that they were reserved for large party. There was no hello there was no please and thank you more or less the rudest behave ever seen in the service industry
Ingrid Reyes
Ingrid Reyes: Margaritas are amazing here I really enjoyed the vibe the music and my server. Jose Reyes is the best I really enjoyed this spot to come and enjoy some amazing margaritas. It’s a very nice location to come with friends and just have a great vibe. Jose was attentive to come back to our table and refill our cups with our drinks:
Francisco Ayasta Vallejo
Francisco Ayasta Vallejo: What a great experience in this mexican restaurant. Me and my girlfriend were visiting DC and found this GEM!! The Nachos are a must , their tacos super! I’d repeat if i’d live closed by. Highly reccomended. Candy made the best recomendations.
Kimverly Ramirez
Kimverly Ramirez: The Fajita was really good. Queso is little salty, salsa needs to be seasoned. Server could’ve been more accommodating. 20% service charge was automatically included even for small parties (2 people). They should mention it on the menu.
Yuliia Voinova
Yuliia Voinova: The place looks so beautiful! Also food delicious, huge portions, fresh products. Prices are not crazy expensive.A little bit surprised with stuff but probably waitress was just tired or had a bad day.

As the name suggests the tequila was great and they even had mezcal frozen drinks which were very good We did get the Ceviche which was good but spicy. Ismael Alfaro: From being a restauran to be a place of love and appreciation to his food service, adding the right amount of time and preparation to his “platillos”well-known around the area, must be a great team with a high quality of product to offer, no forgetting their delicious “postressillos” else looking to have a dine in, it’s absolutely reasonable looking at that amount of space offer at that place, it’s completely sure it won’t be a problem, since there’s it’s just to much to se around. Soumeya B.
Soumeya B.: Wow! Can’t get worse than this. What makes the experience even more painful is the price I paid for really bad food. The chicken tasted old and the berria was too sour and came with a watery consommé. It’s just bad. The rice was bland and the beans watery. I really don’t understand all the 5 star reviews. This is what we ordered: Chimichanga (was not crunchy and was more like a bad burrito), the dos tacos, and the baria.
Sophie Jylan
Sophie Jylan: Definitely try them out. The entrance is in an alley and easy to miss, but when you walk in it’s adorable. I went in a group and we were doing a project where we needed to order food in Spanish. Taqueria Xochi: what do users think?
saumya sahni
saumya sahni: Very disappointed with The takeout order. The tacos were not worth the hype. Birria lamb taco wasn’t fried, and they did not use corn tortillas even after requesting it specifically. We asked for one order of Birra for eating now and the platter for eating later, but we got all tacos pre-made, which was supposed to be a platter eaten later.
Hannah Tyler
Hannah Tyler: I would give Taqueria Xochi 4.5 stars. I ordered the chicken tinga tacos and the esquites; the chicken tacos were delicious—very good sauce, and loved the presentation. I would give it 4.5 stars mainly because I feel it’s a bit pricy, but the food is very good and authentic!
Response: Thank you for the kind words. We are so happy you enjoy our food!!
Nia J
Nia J: I got the quesabirria tacos and they were DELICIOUS! The consume was very flavorful and they made the food pretty quickly. My only complaint is the pricing I paid ~$17, but the food was definitely worth the price.
Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy that you enjoyed the food!!
Timothy David
Timothy David: My god these tacos are amazing and the Birria tacos that you dip in a gravy/juice are to die for! They are juicy, full of flavor, not too salty, and stuffed. These tacos are an ultimate stop in DC to satisfy those taste buds!!!
Selena Hernandez
Selena Hernandez: Eh, I’ve had better tacos. Not a fan of the tortillas they use you can get better tasting authentic tacos elsewhere in my opinion. The restaurant itself has a cool vibe to it though.
David Zeledon
David Zeledon: Good pop up located in U street. Currently doing takeout orders only via online - so cannot walk up and order. Tacos were good, and so were the chips. Salsas could have had a bit more flavor.
Josie M
Josie M: This place is magical. I want my wedding to be catered by them, in fact, if i was proposed to with a heart platter of their tacos, i would ✨melt💕✨. I love them. I would travel to any remote location of the world, solely, for their tacos, if you even had the passing thought, that you were hungry, you have to try, taqueria xochi. Its magic, you will never be the same.

Noah H
Noah H: Everyone listen! if you want to eat one of the best tacos anywhere in the DC area this is your place. Small place, yet welcoming warming. Also theMargaritas and micheladas are to die for.
Travis Verner
Travis Verner: Tucked away off of 14th st NW, this intimate spot has a really cool vibe. Super nice staff, fantastic food. Ceviche was amazing, they use fresh local rockfish. Also highly recommend the poblano tacos and taco Al pastor. Private event for a friend’s birthday and service was impeccable. Great margarita as well, hibiscus and classic!
Matthew Weltz
Matthew Weltz: Not pretentious, very good local taco spot. Favorite tacos were the carnitas and the peppers. The mezcal cocktails are amazing - highly recommend.
Gal Mesika
Gal Mesika: Tried the prickly pear margarita and four tacos. Al Pastor, carne asada, cauliflower, and rajas (poblano pepper). Margarita was balanced, very good. Al pastor was my favorite taco of the four. Carne asada came in 2nd. The cauliflower and poblano were both good but could have used some heat in my opinion. I would have liked a some more spice in all of the tacos but that’s a personal thing. Would 100% come back here for pastor and asada tacos and to try the other tacos and more of the menu.
Kareem Yakub
Kareem Yakub: As someone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico City, I have high standards for Mexican food in DC. Chicatana met and exceeded those standards. The food was delicious, the drinks were good, the prices were reasonable, and the service was great. For dinner, we got the chicken flautas, gorditas with flying ants, and tacos (carne asada, al pastor, and one with peppers and Oaxacan cheese). The first two tacos were tasty and I never thought that a vegetarian taco could be so good. For dessert, we had the banuelos, which are a sweet fried dough. I’ll be coming here again and highly recommend this place.
Claudia Aguilera
Claudia Aguilera: OH MY GOODNESS. Wow. The words escape me on this one. If you haven’t been here yet, RUN. The food is amazing. Sopes, esquites, bruselas, tacos de raja and camarones. Go and get now! Wow. Additionally, the service is impeccable. I will recommend to everyone I know and those I don’t. I don’t think I have enjoyed a culinary experience as much as I did this one. I felt at home the entire time and even more so when the chef and owner interacted with us personally. So friendly and genuine. Are you still reading this review? Because you shouldn’t be. You should be on your way to eat here NOW.
Vanessa Martinez
Vanessa Martinez: I love Chicatana! The food is very delicious, great atmosphere and staff is always very friendly. My highlights were the hibiscus Margarita, pomegranate Margarita—- The Shrimp and Al pastor Tacos ( delicious)Definitely recommend it!
chanyaya chanyapat
chanyaya chanyapat: A bit pricy if compare to other Mexican food in the area. But in term of drink food and presentation is very good. It is my fav place in this area. Also... Pork taco is best in my opinion.

Republic Cantina: what do users think?
Elizabeth Tate
Elizabeth Tate: This place was pretty busy for brunch, of which we thankfully had a reservation and tried a bunch of stuff on the menu. The coffee was creative and delicious, and so was the sandwich! Defiantly the best way to show my friends what Tex-mex cuisine is 💯
Antonio Vanegas
Antonio Vanegas: Great decor! Kind of hidden off of New York Ave, love the vibes. I’m usually a tough critic as far as food but wow, 10 out of 10. Could not find one thing wrong with the food. Had the brisket chili, nachos, and corn mac… all very very flavorful. Drinks were great also! The icing on the cake was the service, Garr was very knowledgeable and personable. He had recommendations to likings and dislikes. I will become their next regular customer, that’s how much I loved the experience.

Shelbi Svoboda: Republic Cantina is a convenient enough, affordable enough at happy hour place to swing through. We ordered spicy margaritas ($9 at happy hour) and one margarita beer float thing. The portions of the food at happy hour were comical. The four chip, clearly melted in a toaster oven “nachos” felt like a middle schooler left at home in the summer had made them for us. While the queso quantity was fine it confusingly was in a too deep dish to be easily consumed or shared and had chunks of meat the size you’d expect on a kabob.
Michael Brown
Michael Brown: Actual real Tex-Mex. The food is a little DC-ified (I made that word up) but it’s all very good. The atmosphere is incredible. The music is great. The drinks are strong. The people who work there are very friendly. They did a lot to help the community during the early days of Covid. I know that doesn’t matter when looking for food reviews, but it does tell you what kind of people they are. My fiancé and I sometimes get their queso and tortillas to go and then cook fajitas at home. I honestly love this place and would chain myself to the doors to stop them if they ever announced they were closing. I would love it if they made a habanero queso…just a modest suggestion.
Ryan Rieboldt
Ryan Rieboldt: Went for happy hour (Outlaw Hour) and highly recommend! Agave margs are superb, I made sure to grab a side Modelo otherwise I’d be going through the margs way too quick. There were only 4 of the Texas Style Nachos however they were delicious as well. Do yourself a favor and head to Republic Cantina as soon as you can!
Nathan
Nathan: Started the day off with a Cap-brulee (breve cappuccino w/ cajeta & caramelized sugar crust). It was as delicious as the description! Then followed it up with the breakfast tacos. The homemade flour tortillas elevate these tacos to another level. They are served individually and wrapped in tin foil. Highly recommend the Brisket/Egg and Chorizo/Egg (see attached pic).
India Lindsay
India Lindsay: Our favorite place! We normally go here for dinner but decided to switch it up and try brunch out. It was delicious 😋We started off with horchata and cajeta lattes and then tried the chilaquiles and Migas platter. So yummy. Nothing beats the homemade tortillas here
Nathaly Zavala
Nathaly Zavala: OMG! You have to pay a visit if you wanna try the best fajitas ever! We’re a family of Mexicans living in Boston and that were by far the best ones (including in Mexico) drinks, nachos and salad absolutely amazing as well! 🙌🏻🍻

Kay Ng: I’m originally from Corpus Christi and came here exclusively for the breakfast tacos. If you’re a Texas native, you know it’s hard to find a proper breakfast taco in the DMV area. Hailing from a city that takes pride in the breakfast taco scene, it has been hard to find something comparable to home. This place is good for my cravings but not fully. If you’re getting here by the metro, you will need to cross several intersections from NY Ave (be cautious of your surroundings, there are a ton of panhandlers). Booked a reservation a few weeks prior for brunch and was seated immediately upon arrival. Small, relaxed vibes inside. Ordered an iced horchata latte, which was something I haven’t had since I left my hometown; very delicious! Now let’s get onto the tacos. They each cost $4-$5 depending on what you get. One thing I’ve noticed is that they are SMALL in portion; they’re the size of my palms! I was shocked after looking at pictures of the tacos online in review and other social media—they were taken up close. That’s not how they were served back home, back in Corpus they are definitely served much larger. I only got two, which was enough for a toddler probably: potato & egg and migas & egg. The potato and egg was great, but didn’t like the migas one much. When I finished these I was still a little hungry. But taste wise, they definitely capture what I would eat in TX. The tortillas are not thick but hold their fillings very well unlike many other places in the DMV. The best way to describe their breakfast tacos are they’re a mini version of Stripe’s Laredo Taco Company tacos. Our server was great and attentive with our needs. Only two restrooms are available in the restaurant. Would I visit again? Yes but not frequently. I don’t know how I feel about MINI tacos costing $4-5 each, especially because I’m familiar with how they are actually sized. I think it’s satisfying if you miss certain food items from Texas.
Daniel Sheffer
Daniel Sheffer: I really wanted to like it as it looked promising and the reviews looked good and so was the decor and ambiance. I definitely know great Tex Mex and bad . This could have been great and yes it possibly was a bad night but it was a weird vibe as the nigh went on at Republic. It was a Sunday night and I made a reservation well in advance as we were traveling. When we arrived outside we waited until our patio table was ready ( it was empty) and it seemed to just take a long time for any staff to get our order down. Drinks were probably the best part. Salsa was a bland pico de gallo and the queso seemed more like their own spin on the classic more like the Mac and cheese type of cheese . What rubbed me the wrong way was that the menu items did not match the descriptions. I ordered the brisket enchiladas which was supposed to be like good Texas BBQ from how it was described but the meat was pulled and just bland and there was no chili gravy. My wife fared worse as the veggie enchiladas were missing about 90% of the vegetables and had some corn niblets and a slivered slice of zucchini. When politely asking the waiter he took the dish back and then brought the same dish to us back from the kitchen saying that that’s how it was when clearly they were out of ingredients . He then mansplained to my wife which mind you is from Texas about what a enchilada has in it . Like dude you clearly don’t know your menu . No apology and no hey can we get you something else this corn thing sucks oh yes we don’t have vegetables tonight. I get having a bad day but it must have been very bad, we were nice we weren’t a Karen it sounded like it was the first day anyone ever worked at a restaurant which I know that was not the case . The quest for great tex mex continues , just wanted this to be documented it was not as advertised and that is a shame.
