CrossFit DC: what do users think?

Gabrielle Ocker: Coach Amon was very welcoming and so friendly! The facilities were great and would recommend this gym to anyone dropping in :)

Samantha Taylor: I joined back in April of 2019 and I can't recommend this place enough. Being new to CrossFit I was really nervous starting out but the staff made me feel very comfortable and made sure to explain movements thoroughly. All the coaches are great and the facilities are really well kept. Great place to get a heaping helping of fitness.

Paula Tilson: I was brand new to CrossFit and started out at this gym with an intro class and then the elements class where you learn some of the basic movements used in classes. This gym has been absolutely wonderful! The coaches are amazing and really know what they are talking about. They give extremely helpful tips when you are doing the workouts and will critique your form to help you improve. The coaches also know when to push you more and help you achieve your goals. The workouts are always killer even if the main component is building strength in a specific lift, I have never left this gym not sweating. And the people here are some of the best motivators, workout buddies and friends. Everyone is extremely welcoming and pushing each other to improve regardless of if you are a beginner or experienced vet. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone whether you are wanting to try CrossFit, find a new gym or just drop in for a class. 10/10 would recommend!

Geoff Orazem: I'd been going to my building gym for a couple years and was hesitant to start paying to workout but I'm really glad I did. I'm working out harder and getting way more fitness per hour here than I was solo. CrossFit DC is super welcoming with great coaches and community. I'm cheap, but I'm also short on time and CF DC is totally worth it to me. Highly recommend

Martin JANDA: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityI have been visiting this box on U street for less than a month and I can only evaluate it positively. I would recommend it for the high professionalism of the coaches, good equipment, super wod programming and also a positive approach to visiting crossfitters.

Michael Zeltakalns: My experience is with the H Street location specifically. I only kept a membership here for two months and then moved on to a different gym because I didn't feel comfortable with their coaching staff. I'm relatively new to CrossFit which means I need movements explained. The staff here, nearly across the board, do not offer a description of their exercise, any demonstration of the movement, and barely any feedback. Whenever I asked what the exercise meant, across multiple coaches, I was met with exasperation. 'You don't KNOW what a kip swing is?" No, and I bet I'm not the only one in this group that would benefit from at least a cursory explaination. The instructors swarm to their friends and the guys lifting big weight, leaving new people to wiggle around without instruction. Then, in the same week, two of my friend injured themselves lifting here and I dropped my membership. It's not safe or enjoyable. I like my new gym a lot more. If you're great at CrossFit, the facilities are nice and you should drop in. If you're new, go elsewhere.

Dominik Mlinarevic: I came, they welcomed me, they coached me I PRd. It was a very good experience two coaches on 15 athletes for the weightlifting part even 3 coaches. Facility is super clean and the equipment is great. Coaching as mentioned was great and professional. Thanks to the team.!!!

Daniel In: The coaching staff here is amazing. They are very knowledgeable and provide great instruction to reduce the possibility of injuries as much as possible. The members here are friendly and enthusiastic. They also have all brand new equipment. After dropping it at other croasfit boxes across the country and across the workd, I realize just how amazing CrossFit DC is.

Jeffrey Neal: Healing my pre-existing injuries, safer than previous options, worth every penny! I was going to CrossFit classes for free at the local military bases. I dropped in on a class here, what a difference! I joined immediately, even though I have to now pay. I was new to CF, riddled with old injuries (not CF related), and was concerned I could easily add to my long list of pre-existing injuries. The quality of the coaching has prevented that from happening. Before each class they show the proper form and queues to use. They intervene when I'm not using correct form and show me how to make needed adjustments. They are helpful when I have questions. Seven years later and I'm the healthiest I've been since I can remember, overcoming many of my old, pre-existing injuries. I couldn't have imagined I'd have progressed this far and feel this good. So much gratitude for the coaching staff and community.

Mikhala McMasters: I started going to the gym in August and I love it! The coaches explain things well, are encouraging, and provide scaling options that make the workouts accessible.

Humble Beast Fit: what do users think?

Michael Lai: When moving into the city, I needed a new workout spot and humble beast Crossfit provided that. Knowledgeable coaches and strong (no pun intended) community. It even has a barbell club for those burnt out on Crossfit! Everything is in kilos so be sure you know how to convert from pounds

Cheryl Tran: I had never done crossfit prior to attending Humble Beast. Under Jeff's programming I was able to do a strict pull up within 8 months !! It was truly an accomplishment I never thought I would achieve! This gym is perfect for people of all levels, whether you want to try crossfit for the first time or have been doing it for years. The coaches are smart, patient and attentive. The fellow members are all really friendly and encouraging. If you struggle with eating healthy, Lindsay is available for nutrition counseling. Overall, this is a great gym in a great location - steps away from the Dupont Circle metro stop!

Lindsley Newbury: I was in DC for business and Dropped In 3 days in a row. Coaches were great! I had Claire one day and Melissa for the other 2. They are both passionate about the sport and the community and made me feel as if I was part of the family. Their members were very welcoming as well. When I'm back in DC I will hit them up again.

Kevin Huang: Excellent facilities and location. Friendly people. However, for the price, which is high, I felt like I did not receive enough attention from the coach on proper form and movement in lifts, even when class sizes were small. Often, it seemed like the coach was more interested in chatting it up with longstanding regulars than coaching things such as bad form. I could not overlook this downside since poor form in CrossFit type movements and lift can easily lead to injury.

Melissa Hickey: Excellent cross fit gym. Extremely knowledgeable coaches, strong community, good vibe/energy. Would highly recommend to athletes just getting into lifting/crossfit--great environment for hands-on and holistic learning.

Emilie Jackson: This gym is amazing! It's really more like having a personal trainer 6 days a week for a fraction of the price with all your friends cheering you on. Been looking for something to engage me ever since I left team sports in high school and I found it in DuPont Circle at 27!

Lenka Collakova: Great 3 day drop in! Very friendly coaches (thank you Melissa and Claire!) and members. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great workouts. And Melissa gave me a list of restaurants, too! 😀

Albert Cheng: Jeff and Lindsay run an awesome fitness business. They quickly find out your goals and tailor a program to meet those goals. I highly recommend them for anyone who is trying to meet their fitness goals in life.

Adam Murphy: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityLindsey and Jeff are by far the most knowledgeable and friendliest people in the world! This gym is the best!

kevin maloy: Positive: Communication, ProfessionalismDropped in- coaches and members all extremely welcoming! Great workout and experience! Will be back!

Old City CrossFit: what do users think?

Becky Oswalt: I joined Old City Crossfit about a month and a half ago with zero experience and I have been LOVING it! I'm so happy I gave it a shot! The coaches are spectacular and super encouraging. They are great teachers who emphasize correct form and help me to scale everything to fit my level (while still pushing me). If you're looking for great people, look no further. The people at Old City aren't overly competitive and they want to see you succeed. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a dynamic, challenging, and fun place to push their fitness to the next level. For real, sign up for the intro 1:1 or drop in a class. See ya at the gym!!!!

Se Fi: I can only highly recommend 1. CrossFit and 2. This box particularly. Great welcome, helpful and enthusiastic coaches, a convincing 1-2-1 session before signing up and a great atmoshphere amongst the attendees. Don't hesitate!

Ian Flynn: Positive: Communication, ProfessionalismOnly did one drop in but the coach did a great job welcoming me and my girlfriend to the gym. After the drop in received an email with great suggestions for local places to try for food and coffee. I wish more CrossFit gyms did this! Excellent place to drop in for anyone visiting DC!

Jack Sykstus: Great gym, great coaches, great space. Only been a member here since COVID but they have done a wonderful job making it feel safe and welcoming. Have improved my overall fitness and strength many times over since starting here.

Turner Shaw (Turner): This gym is exactly what I was looking for. Spectacular coaches who are always willing to help, great programming, and fun people to workout with.

Lauren Olinsky: I have been a loyal Old City member since the beginning and can not give enough positive praise to Sean, Erin, the whole coaching staff, and the community at Old City! I genuinely feel a part of something bigger at Old City and the level of caring from the coaches to the members is apparent in every class I attend. I have never been a member of a gym for more than a few months until Old City and could not imagine my life in DC without this crew. The coaches are amazing at reinforcing proper form and care about members to coach you to a place where you can challenge yourself with safe boundaries and support. Moreover, at what gym will you find a coach who calls and texts you to hold you accountable for your health. If you think you want to improve yourself in a place where you are cared for, Old City is the place for you!

Rico Macaraeg: Always great dropping in and visiting my first CrossFit family! Love this place! A DC must if you’re looking for a “no ego”, team environment to workout!

Rachel Turow: I started at Old City back in February doing the six-week fitness challenge after having my third child. Coach David got me hooked on CrossFit and six months later I am in better shape than ever. I have taken classes with most of the coaches and they are all amazing. I also have found the community to be very warm and supportive. I believe there are both physical and mental health benefits to being part of a gym community like this and would highly recommend it for anyone, even if you are not in amazing shape - you will be soon!

Philip P: Awesome box. I was visiting from the UK, had quite a few week points to work on, the coach (David) went over and way above what he needed to do and I expected- really helped a ton, thanks David! The other CrossFitters attending class were so friendly and encouraging. And the box followed up with reccomendations for the City. Incredible service!

Adam Barrett: I'm just getting back into working out after an injury. The staff is super friendly. After filling out some info for a free intro class online, I was contacted over the phone by Katie. She was helpful in answering my questions. I was delighted when I showed up for my sessions and she was also the instructor. Knowing my background she worked with me during the skills and WOD portions of the class. If you are new to CrossFit or just aiming to drop in, Old City CrossFit is a good place to stop in.

CrossFit MPH: what do users think?

Sean Gibbons: The owner, Melody, is knowledgeable and attentive. So much so in fact that she travels the world giving classes and tutorials to gym owners, coaches, and Crossfitters. She's also an expert in nutrition, mobility, and physiology, and her members reap the benefits from this expertise. Finally, Mel is a pillar of the community, organizing events for members and charity drives for disadvantaged groups. MPH is a wonderful place to find a whole-of-person approach to fitness and personal health.

Pablo Vega Behar: I've been doing CrossFit over 6 years and have probably dropped in to about 50 or so CF gyms over that time. Though most are usually good, it's rare when I can say I was truly impressed with the things I saw during my visit. MPH is one of the few. Great workout, coaching, and environment. Definitely recommend for anyone in DC.

Michael Weitzman: Well-maintained CrossFit box with absolutely fantastic coaching. The head coach was there both days that I dropped in and it was some of the best coaching I’ve in a box in a long time. I coach at a box in Miami and have visited over 100 boxes while traveling so I have seen the good bad and ugly... this was so so good! I learned at least three new cues for coaching our athletes and got some help with my hand stand push-ups. I was extremely impressed with the pre class preparation (she had worksheets printed out for the wod to track scores). I also noticed at all of the athletes (members) moved very well with a barbell and on body weight movements which is a sign of a safe and effective program. If you’re considering trying CrossFit or switching gyms I would recommend this place. Clear instruction, coaches are paying close attention to each member in the class and they know what they are talking about. Really enjoyed my two quick visits, I would be a member here if I lived here.

Katie Keegin: I've been going here for over a year and absolutely love it. Mel and bkay, the head coaches, are fabulous with athletes of any level. The community is welcoming and but still pushes you to your limit which is the point! MPH will become the thing in your day you look forward to.

Ralph Alswang: Having been at Crossfit MPH for over 5 years and it continues to be important part of my well being and health. Great coaches and teammates to work with everyday. Come to free Sat Clinic and get yourself feeling better with Crossfitmph!

Eli Noah: Love this Box!! The coaches are ALL SUPER NICE, FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL AND ATTENTIVE!! Thanks Rebecca!! GRUELLING WOD!! BUT I made it!! I will definitely come back and already told people in DC of ur place. Thanks again for your hospitality!

Cameron Bucek: This place is AWESOME, the coaching is next-level...... this place is a hidden gem in the Dupont Circle area..... great place to drop-in or become part of their community! They have restrooms, water-cooler, AED, and all the best equipment to get your WOD on!!!

Mike P: Great coaches, great programming, plus they give you a level of personalized training during the workout. Solid CrossFit box.

Sean Ireland: My home away from home when I travel to Washington. Rebecca and Melody are amazing coaches!!

Anil Menon: I dropped in from Houston and was so thankful for the training and support!

CrossFit Hierarchy: what do users think?

Andy Thompson: A great gym with good, attentive coaching. Love the 7:30 pm workouts. A fun community that is not too competitive. Great workout programming that develops strength and cardio without pushing me over the edge, I always feel good the next day. Thanks!

Melissa C: If I could I would rate minus 10 stars !!! I went for some time here . Actually I only took the training classes and it was more than enough ! The trainers do not seem to be well experienced enough to train others and also the facility is extremely dirty. When doing push ups or laying on the floor I could see and even inhale animal fur hairs ! I wish they could at least invest more in cleaning ! They do allow pets to go inside but they seem to not be willing to pay for extra cleaning I guess … the monthly fee is extremely expensive for the kind of service offered ! They definitely need to improve …
Response: This is false claim, you were never a member of the gym

Jeremy Bernfeld: Having moved around quite a bit in my life, I’ve had the opportunity to be a member of five or so CrossFit Gyms; Hierarchy is by far the best. The members and coaches are super friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. They are also really reasonable when life happens and you need to put a hold on your account, scale a workout, or cancel a class. I also never felt pressured to go beyond my comfort limits in the two years I was a member, though I could always expect great motivation and support from the coaches and members to finish out each workout strong. I have unfortunately just moved to a different part of DC and have had to switch gyms but, I’m super glad to have had access to this great gym and community.

Julian Serna: Me and my wife dropped in from Miami and were welcomed in by coach/owner Tyler, he was very friendly and once class started he was very helpful, the workout was very fun and engaging. We partnered up with members from the gym and they were very friendly. I had a lot of fun joining in the Wod and I know my wife did also, if you live in the DC area you should def check this gym out.

Greg Scott: Hierarchy was recommended from a friend in Fort Lauderdale. So we had heard a bit about their coaching and programming and were probably biased before dropping in. All that being said, this gym was amazing. They out kicked the coverage with the quality of gym. Awesome all the way around. I’d recommend dropping in and making this your box.
Response: Hi Greg, Thank you so much for your review, we sincerely appreciate it. It was an absolute pleasure to have you and Danielle as drop-ins. Safe travels and we hope to see you again! -Dave

Robert Sax: Great experience while dropping into town at this gym! The owner was present (not always the case) and coached a great class. The people were very welcoming and the facility was exactly what you need for a fun crossfit experience. From one owner to another..... great job !

Sean Meehan: Been a member here for a few years, and the community, coaching and programming is the best. Stop in for a day or join forever, either way you'll be glad you did. Love my hierarchy family! Best DC-proper gym, and I've dropped in to most of them.

Donald Keyes: I have been to one class before about a year ago with a friend and I decided to go back. I think that was the first bad decision of the day. The gym did not impress me; the instructor was ok. The employees on the other hand were not the nicest. The class was a little underwhelming, I could have got a better work out with an insanity dvd.

Steve Curran: Great facility, great coaching. Just dropping in while in town. They made me feel very welcome. Also, their programming is really really good. Seriously. I will definitely be back.

Rich: I was visiting in DC from the UK earlier this week and wanted to get a work out so I dropped in - the team were very friendly and had a great session programmes in. Coaching was well informed, everyone made me feel welcome and to top it all off, I was able to do a WOD for free. Absolutely fantastic, thanks for having me!

CrossFit DC: what do users think?

Mike Eason: Dropped in when I was in DC for a short trip. The coach and members were very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely go back if I am back in DC.

Jess E. (Jess): Knowledgeable coaches! Classes seem to be of good sizes. My only gripes were: • equipment being wiped down (never saw it happen while I was there before or end of a class or even at closing) • parking can be a bit of a hassle & time consuming.
Response: Jess, glad you enjoyed the coaching. We do ask people to wipe down gear, but I'll remind our coaches to announce more regularly. We also have a cleaning crew come through regularly on off hours. Unfortunately, not much we can do for parking. Thanks for the feedback, and I hope we see you in again soon.

Marco Enriquez: Great coaches! They provide solid feedback every session and they work with you to find suitable exercise substitutes (scaling options) if needed. Classes are fun and challenging. Bonus: good COVID-19 protocols in place.

Erika Oliver: Loved this gym! My husband and I dropped in while visiting DC. We originally tried another gym on H street earlier in the week, but I wish we had come to DC Northeast earlier! We loved the facility, the coaches were friendly and the workout was great. When dropping in you can pay $25 for a shirt and the class fee, which is a good deal! If I lived in DC this is the gym I would go to!

Dana Peterson: Fun community of folks with encouraging coaches and an atmosphere welcome to each person's own level of fitness and reaching for incremental improvement from there. Love the functional strength and high intensity training in every WOD! Makes cleaning, sanitization and safety a top priority, (even before the pandemic).

jeff boyst: Dropped in for a workout while in DC. Checked all the CrossFit communities nearby and their staff + WOD's. We visited a few around town to try new things and this was the best of the town. The staff was supportive of my fiance's limits due to injury and helped me workout a sore back after a long drive. The staff introduced us and everyone came to say hello and speak with us to make us feel welcome. This is one of those boxes that is more than just a box, it's a community and it shows.

Vincent Chen: Great gym filled with very helpful coaches

Geoff Orazem: I generally work out at their U street location but this one is great too, a little more room and equally solid quirky fun coaches and community. No gym bros here just professionals who are trying to find time to get fit and have a laugh. All the thumbs up, highly recommend

James Thomley: After trying out several other Crossfit gyms I finally landed at Crossfit DC. The camaraderie I feel every time I take a class is hard to match in ANY gym. The coaches are attentive without seeming unapproachable and the attention to detail, especially regarding safety, exceeds expectations. I have found my Crossfit home in DC and will be here as long as they are.

Mike P: The space is great. Reminiscent of old school CrossFit. The programming is solid and the coaches are all friendly and knowledgeable. Clientele are all friendly and great people, too. Age ranges from 20-60 and everyone has a great time.

CrossFit Shaw: what do users think?

Luke Lukens: Caveat: I had an intro session and decided not to pursue. The gym is clean, well lit, on-premise showers, and provides covered outdoor workouts (with heaters in the winter) so you can work out maskless. However, this franchise is extremely expensive. To join you’re looking at a price of $520-1360, depending on workout frequency and experience. They are partnered with a next door Goop-like health testing facility, and a body scan is priced into every signup package. After that, $160/month for 2 classes/week ($280 for unlimited) with no additional amenities; no open gym time, no mobility classes. I didn’t receive any information about the coaches’ qualifications during the intro that would help justify the price. For comparison, the unlimited package at the local high end gym, which includes groupX, pool, HIIT, and cycle, is $190/mo.

J Theis: Dropped in while in town for a conference. Great coaching by Dani and Morgan. Clean, bright, well-equipped facility. Had a great time!

Petworth Fitness: what do users think?

Renata Danks: I was a member of Petworth Fitness over the summer of 2021 and had a fantastic experience. (Unfortunately I had to discontinue due to moving out of DC.) I appreciated the friendly coaches who played a major part in making the workouts less intimidating and more fun. I loved the variety of the programming, the challenge, and feeling strong. I would recommend Petworth Fitness for anyone looking for a fun challenge. I found that the coaches were motivating but also met me at my intensity level and I never felt in over my head.
Response: We appreciate you spending the summer with us. Thank you for the kind words!

Mahogane Reed: I joined Petworth Fitness in March of 2022 as a CrossFit newbie. I’d never lifted weights before and had no idea what I was doing, but I was eager to try something new to jolt my fitness routine back to life. Petworth Fitness was the perfect place for me. The Fundamentals program was critical to my learning the basics of lifting weights and CrossFit in a safe and sustainable way. Coach Mike was patient and methodical in showing me what I needed to know to get the most out of the gym. Once I started taking classes, I realized I’d joined a supportive, fun, energetic community of fitness enthusiasts and folks like me who just wanted to be active among new friends. A few months after I joined the gym, I injured my knee. The coaching staff at Petworth Fitness accommodated me and my injury and helped me remain active through my recovery. Now I’m on the mend and am so happy I joined this gym. I couldn’t have asked for a better gym experience or a better group of coaches and peers. 10/10 recommend this gym for anyone interested in joining a great community of neighbors and friends in a joint endeavor for wellness.
Response: We are really happy that you have found a fitness routine that works for you. Thank you for the kind words. As a small business it means a lot to hear this because you've described a lot of what we work to provide to our community. We're very glad to have you with us!

Kirsten Craft: Petworth Fitness is the real deal. Kyle and his team do an excellent job at scaling workouts so they are challenging, but doable, no matter your fitness level. If you're looking for a great gym run by great people, I'd highly recommend Petworth Fitness.
Response: Thank you Kristen. We want everyone to feel welcome and know it doesn't matter what their fitness level is on day one. We appreciate you and your comments!

Courtney Coffin: As a previous cross-fit work-out style skeptic, I'm so happy with Petworth Fitness. The coaches and people are friendly and the workouts are great since coaches demo each move before you do it to ensure that you have proper form and the right modifications for whatever ails you that day. Its unique to find a place where you compete with yourself instead of others. Even if you're the last one on the floor everyone is cheering you on. This is a super clean and welcoming gym where you can learn to enjoy lifting and working out.
Response: Thank you Courtney! We're really glad that you're enjoying yourself and your workouts.

Christian Monaghan: I've been an open gym member for 3 months and I've really enjoyed the warm community, the quality equipment, and that it's never crowded. This is a good gym for beginners who want to do group classes, or receive instruction, as well as seasoned gym goers who want access to good quality equipment and a community of people committed to serious training.
Response: Thank you! We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Sébastien Dibling: Great gym, great equipment, great program, great flexibility, great community and especially amazing coaches. My best choice in my journey of being healthier and stronger. Thanks Petworth Fitness.
Response: Thank you Sébastien! We appreciate this and are glad to have you with us.

Yolanda Porche: I feel like whatever I write would not adequately express my appreciation for Petworth Fitness. To me, the people are the best part! The coaches and owners are kind, down-to-earth, professional, patient and supportive. To single out a coach would not be fair because they all bring something unique/special! The members of the gym are just as sweet and encouraging. I love the group classes - they are challenging and fun. The gym is spacious, kept tidy and has a parking lot! As a single woman that lives alone and works from home 100% since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I feel so grateful to have found this gym and the wonderful people I see and interact with whenever I go. I HEART PF!
Response: Yolanda, thank you very much for trusting us with your fitness. Were happy to have you as a part of our community and appreciate the kind remarks.

Travis Brookes: This gym is amazing! I love everything from the open space, the abundance of equipment, and the friendly/experienced staff! I feel super comfortable asking questions and have never felt judged. It's my first gym post nationwide lockdown and I don't see myself signing up for another one. The open gym membership is what I currently have but I'd also recommend taking a look at the classes! There is a kettle bell program that I'm itching to sign up for the next time it opens!
Response: Thank you for the kind words Travis. We appreciate you being with us and that you feel comfortable at the gym.

Bryan Todd: I have been going to Petworth Fitness for three months. I began as part of the rehab process for a herniated disc. Through the combination of work with the therapist and coaches at Petworth fitness, I have been able to heal from the injury that limited movement and return to exercising 3x a week. They do a great job of coaching and encouraging people at any level of fitness.

J M: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityThis gym is always clean, well organized, and the classes are always on time. The staff is professional and interested in seeing you meet your fitness goals safely. The members are friendly and supportive.

Balance Functional Fitness Thomas Circle (Formerly CrossFit Balance): what do users think?

Joseph Trunzo: I worked out at Balance for the four years I lived in downtown DC. Monthly rates are very reasonable and the multi-level facility has all the functional fitness and powerlifting tools you could ever want. As long as I avoided peak hours, the number of humans was very manageable. The Balance staff was friendly and handled the pandemic transition quite well. I don't think you'll find a better gym anywhere in DC.

Arielle M. (Mermaid): I don't recommend ever using the trainer by the name of Philip Pasch. His attitude and verbal abuse on a daily basis while he's outside of work is atrocious. I don't know if that's anger from steroid use. But he needs to chill out and watch his mouth. We all know an employees behavior outside of the workplace can reflect the company they work for, so here's your heads up!

Cameron Uslander: It took leaving DC and looking for a new gym to know how good I had it at Balance. The coaches are fantastic, the price is one of the best in DC, and if the sense of community doesn't motivate you to get to the gym and improve yourself, nothing will. Yes, the classes can be a bit crowded but I've never been turned away, the coaches always know how to make it work. And yes, all these people mean the equipment is not the most immaculate. Ultimately, though, you're there to get a workout, get stronger, and to be a part of a supportive community that'll help you get there. You'll get all the above here and more.
Response: Thanks Cameron! We miss seeing you in the mornings here at Crossfit Balance!

Taylor Koerner: I had the pleasure of working out here for a month while in DC. It's a really great gym, lots of good coaching and they pay attention to everyone to help everyone get better. The programming was well done and thoughtful. I think it's representative of the culture of the gym that even though the 715 am class was sometimes crowded everyone worked it out together and there were never any bad attitudes. I will definitely drop in if I am back in the area.

Grady Lynn: Great gym with incredible coaches. I was in DC for a summer internship and regularly attended the evening classes for the 12 weeks I was here. The community was great, the workouts were challenging, and I learned a lot from the coaches. There was a wide range of Crossfit experience in the classes, making it easy to fit in. They also offered me the best rate for summer interns that I could find in the area (and the membership was unlimited!) I strongly recommend checking this gym out and I hope that I can come back to visit sometime!
Response: Thanks Grady! It was great having you this summer. All the best in your future endeavors.

Kenneth Roraback: The coaches are fantastic about critiquing form and helping people to improve toward their fitness goals. The community is very welcoming, and I'm particularly fond of the 6:15am weekday class, which has a great group of attendees each day and tends to be pretty gender-balanced--a rarity at a crossfit gym.

Jerry Johnson: I've worked out two times now at Crossfit Balance and have visited all of their 3 locations, which include Thomas Circle (just worked out during free time and not a Crossfit class), Foggy Bottom (free time- Did a WOD of my own), and Glover Park, which is my personal favorite (worked out twice with a Crossfit class). Both times were amazing. Kudos to Danielle, who "brings it" as a coach. You can tell she doesn't just coach people, she lives it, and her energy is contagious. Sort of like, if I'm learning how to shoot, I want to go to a known marksman. Danielle, it is obvious, can probably outwork anybody in the gym most days. More than that, this Crossfit box seems to understand proper technique and injury recovery over just going Rx on a WOD. That's important. In a nutshell, my observations on the gym spaces- 1) Glover Park - not near a metro, so you hve to drive, but. If pluses are the space. Bottom floor is for Crossfit WODS, but the 2nd floor has enough space and equipment for your own WOD and mobility exercises. Also, you get two hours of free parking in the parking garage - a major perk. 2). Thomas Circle - probably has the most space for working out, but, seemed a bit more broken up with smaller workout areas. That being said, I couldn't try out the 1st floor Crossfit area, which looked pretty nice. Near metro. 3). Foggy Bottom - by far, the nicest, with a salt water pool and very nice showers and programmable lockers. Near metro. I wrote a book, but there you are.

Richard Odom: Nice box. Met some nice members and a cool coach. Surprised by the air conditioning and the lack of a rack. I would visit again. It's not a must stop but if you're in the area and looking for a WOD, stop in.

George Albany: So many options for all fitness levels and interests. I don't use the crossfit 'box' but I have heard only good things. Great space on the top floor for stretching and floor movements. I've also rarely seen it so crowded that I couldn't get a workout in.

Randy Chapman: Great gym and awesome coaches. I highly recommend if you are in the city.

CrossFit Rosslyn: what do users think?

Shamar P Mitchell: This review is waaaaaay overdue. CrossFit Rosslyn was my very first box in 2013 and although I have moved away, I maintain contact and drop-in whenever I am in town. What makes them stand apart from most others is that they legitimately care about their athletes (that includes drop-ins). From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel as if you are a part of the CFR family. That feeling comes from the top down. Thank you Michael and Matt for all that you have done throughout the years.

nicole evangelista: You’ll be fine if you’re cool working out to the smell of cigarettes, not being allowed to drop your weights and instructors that aren’t really familiar with crossfit. Otherwise i’d check out another box in the area.

Danny Askarinam: The staff here are very friendly with a warm family like environment. They make CrossFit a lot less daunting then what it is and are very accommodating to all levels.

Kathy Hanna: A great community that has always been very welcoming, even when I was just starting out with CrossFit. I love working out here!

Jennifer McNerney: The gym could be cleaner, but the classes are pretty great and vary all the time, which is great for challenging and improving strength and physique!

Pulsar1984: Never been inside, but there are some seriously cute dudes working out in there. One waved at me once, and I nearly passed out!! 😍😇 Lots of eye candy!!

Michael Lee: Great and friendly environment. Knowledgeable coaches who are interested in your well being.

Joanne Ochsman: Best workout ever°°

Silver Spring Training Club: what do users think?

Anthony Oliverio: I worked out at CF Silver Spring with Josh in 2012 and 2013 when I was first introduced to CrossFit. He was able to evaluate what type of training I had done previous to working with him, and adapt his coaching style to help me improve upon techniques, crush bad habits I had developed, and teach me new techniques. He developed a personal strength program specific to my goals prior to joining the military, and was able to prepare me for future physical challenges I would face, while at the same time providing me the tools to build strength and gain endurance. The gym itself was a phenomenal atmosphere. Everyone is pushed to their maximum capacity. Additionally, the coaches ensured that before any high intensity workouts were executed, the fundamentals of each technique were taught, practiced and mastered prior to adding weight or increasing speed. I credit Josh and his team for providing me with good habits with regards to Olympic lifts that I still employ today. I still follow the daily workouts on his gym’s website out of all the others out there simply because I trust him and his process. I know he pays careful attention to all workouts he selects, the same way he does for the plans and programs he creates for members. This gym has been the most memorable experience for me in terms of a place to workout with a competitive and fun community and great instruction.

Colleen Donohoe Craft: I’m proud to have been a member at SSTC since 2019. Every class is a new learning experience led by by phenomenal coaches. The methodology they instruct is simple and effective. You will work hard, leave your ego at the door, and want to come back the next day for another class. I trained here all throughout pregnancy and postpartum; I am forever grateful for these classes during that time. This establishment is welcoming to anyone from a newbie exerciser to an experienced Olympic weightlifter. The community is amazing and supportive to anyone who walks through the door.

Alexander Yu: I had a great experience with SSTC! The coaches are very knowledgeable, caring, and provide great training. They also pay attention to promoting mobility and preventing injury. They put a lot of effort into building a community and helping their members build friendships. Josh, the owner, was very flexible with me when I had to be out of state a few months to care of a sick family member, and also when I had to move out of the area for work. If I was still in the area, I would still be a member.

Casey Prestipino: SSTC and its staff are in a class of their own. I came to the gym relatively new to the Crossfit community, and Josh immediately made me feel comfortable and welcome by taking the time to introduce me to the gym, understand my goals, and evaluate my fitness history. Unlike previous gyms I had trained at in the past, the coaches understand the value of proper warm ups and smart scaling. I was pushed on days when I was feeling lazy and challenged on days when I expected to coast through a workout. Not only did I improve my overall fitness during the year I trained at SSTC, I met some of the most inspiring, kind, and funny people that I'm grateful to consider friends. Drop in, you won't regret it!

Jerry: When I joined Silver Spring Training Club in late 2017, I was 2 months out from a botched knee surgery and had been told by my surgeon that I would never run again. Instead of consigning myself to a dreary existence riding an elliptical, I made one of the best decisions in my life and contacted Josh. After a year of goblet squats, deadlifts, accessory work, and rigorous stretching, I was able to strengthen my legs to the point that I can run again. Now I'm doing a 5K at least three times a week and am currently training for a half marathon. That alone is enough to give SSTC a 5-star rating in my book, but there's more. The great thing about this gym is that there's zero ego. Everybody who walks in the door, whether they're an Adonis who can deadlift 500 lbs. without warming up or a newbie who has never picked up a barbell before, is treated with the same level of dignity and attention by the trainers. That same attitude extends to the gym community as well: everybody is encouraging, and every success (no matter how big or how small) is celebrated equally. Every workout is certainly challenging, but Josh, Katie, and Franklin are laser-focused on ensuring that everyone is working out safely and with the proper technique. If you're at all interested in fitness, or learning how to properly lift with a barbell, you won't find a better place to do so than SSTC!

Rachel Fronapfel: I spent a total of about 7 years training at Silver Spring Training Club before moving out of the area. The coaches really work with everybody individually, creating endless variations of workouts to make sure everyone gets a great sweat, feels accomplished, and does it safely. The sense of community is what brought me back day after day. The owner puts a ton of thought into the programming, and is truly a master of his craft. A chunk of my heart will always be in that gym!

Mike G: Love this place. I was a member for 3.5 years before moving recently and still message the head trainer for advice. Best coaching and programming you can find. There's a sensibility behind it — go hard and heavy and get fit, but for the sake of having a better life, not just being really good at CrossFit — that makes the gym stand out. Great group of people, too. It's also a place where you can feel comfortable lifting in spandex.
Response: Appreciate the thoughtful feedback Mike! I'm glad our coaching and programming philosophy resonates with you and we're always happy to help our athletes stay the course wherever they find themselves. Looking forward to a tights, deadlifts, and reuben sandwiches reunion soon.

Lucas Pessoa de Melo: Josh and the coaches are awesome at what they do. They know when to push you and are just unbelievable supporters in whatever fitness journey you’re trying to take. I lost 60lbs while training with them between Feb 2018 and June 2019 and would still be there had I not moved away. Great community, well structured classes, and just an A+ environment. Highly recommend

Julianne Whaylen: I’ve spent the last 6.5 years at this gym and love it. The coaches are very experienced and truly care about pushing you to meet your individual goals. I’ve worked out here throughout all 3 of my pregnancies, and the coaches were amazing at tailoring my workouts throughout the different stages of my pregnancy and postpartum recovery. The community is great and very supportive too, and I always look forward to my next class.

Gregg Jones: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualitySilver Spring Training Club is a high quality gym with a community of people that are motivating and kind to each other. The head trainer and staff are very knowledgeable and the workout programming is great. I've also been impressed with how the gym focuses on keeping athletes healthy and puts an emphasis on proper form at all times.

Brazen Fitness: what do users think?

Nihar Ganju: What makes this place exceptional is the quality of the coaches. On those days when you don't feel like working out, you know the coaches will get you energized even when you've been dragging. I looked forward to each of my classes. Every coach truly makes an effort to get to know the students in the class. They are knowledgeable, patient, friendly and have an incredible talent to motivate! They understand anatomy and body mechanics and can guide you even if you have limitations. This is a place that cares about your individual growth and progress. All the right stuff to hit your PR's! Truly a place for all skill levels.
Response: Nihar it makes so happy for you to say that! Thank you for the very kind words!!

Darien Thall: The owners and coaches are amazing at brazen fitness. I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the experience and even more so by the integrity of the owners and community in general. I started with brazen in 2019 working with a personal trainer. Fast forward to today, and after a unhealthy hiatus mainly due to Covid-19, I’m back in the gym with a new trainer and new outlook. The one thing that hasn’t changed is brazen and I’m so thankful for their consistency and the stability they bring to my routine!
Response: Thank you for the kind words , Darien! welcome back!!

Vivian Hernandez: I recently joined Brazen Fitness after a long hiatus from a gym. Brazen Fitness was the perfect place to jump back in. They have created an environment that is welcoming and inclusive of all fitness levels. Most importantly the coaching staff is organized, approachable, and engaging.
Response: Vivian we're so happy your experience has been great so far! We're looking forward to you accomplishing awesome things with your fitness :)

C Brittingham II: Brazen is a great place to train your mind and body. The staff is top-shelf, led by great coaches, and its members are equally as awesome! The classes are challenging -- very challenging in many cases -- but everyone encourages and supports your success.
Response: You are awesome Charles!!

Alan Reiner: Coaches are attentive, consistently walking around during workouts and providing assistance and encouragement to members. The programming is varied at an appropriate level and there are always good scaling options. Every class begins with sufficient stretching and warm up.
Response: Thanks Alan!!

Jennifer Harper: I had been out of shape for a while before I joined South Arlington Fitness & Nutrition. Before joining I was intimidated, concerned about not knowing enough and getting injured. Every coach I met was warm and engaging, making classes so much fun! There is a strong focus on mechanics, which helped me build up on weight sustainably, and without injury! The coaches are very thorough in running through the workouts, so you can modify as needed (but they will push you to keep improving yourself). I highly recommend you take the on-ramp course if it’s been a while since you worked out. I also recommend you take advantage of the nutrition courses and some of the many mini challenges they will have throughout the year. The FitLife Challenge was a game-changer for me. 🙌 It’s such a wonderful team! ❤️
Response: Thank you so much Jennifer! We love having you part of the gym family ❤️

Liz Speck: This is by far the friendliest gym I have ever been to! It is such a welcoming and encouraging place! The programming is excellent and well-rounded, and the coaches are motivating and give helpful feedback. I like that there is a lot of variety in the workouts and care is taken with the programming to ensure that you get a great workout and avoid injury. The members are all so nice, and there are a variety of ages/fitness levels in every class. Also, I feel much safer in this gym in the COVID era than at some other gyms. The class sizes are small, there are a mix of indoor and outdoor classes, and they have taken a lot of steps to ensure that we are spaced out (when inside you have your own space to work out and your own set of equipment) and to clean and sanitize the equipment.
Response: Thank you for your kind words Liz!! We LOVE having you part of our family!

SB: I travel a lot. A LOT. 180,000 miles just in one year and coming back to South Arlington is like coming home. Doesn't matter if it the first time or the 27th time I run into a fellow athlete or coach here, the vibe is the same. "How can we help make you better." The location is a hidden gem! Metro close and Walk to the Pentagon or Crystal City. Plenty of green space and healthy eating options in the local area. If you are a Govie or military, if you drop in, make sure they know it as they will take good care of you. For many of us, functional fitness is a way of life and the coaches at South Arlington live it- very experienced and they teach, support, and a kick in the butt if you need it. Drop in. Check it out.
Response: Thank you, thank you, thank!!! And you need to cut down on all this travel ... 180k is a LOT

Rebecca Wolf: Positive: ProfessionalismI really enjoyed the time I spent at South Arlington Cross Fit. All of the coaches are knowledgable, the workouts/classes are well paced, and the people are great! I appreciated the progression based programing method the coaches use to instruct each class. Recommend you check out the gym if you are considering cross fit!
Response: Thank you for your kind words Rebecca!!! You are awesome ☺️

William Lubetkin: Updated review. Mehdi & Edith run an absolutely amazing shop here at South Arlington to make it feel like you're working out with a family instead of a generic gym membership. Between how much management cares, the excellent facility and the amazing community involved you really can't find a better gym in the NOVA area. Highly recommended.
Response: Thank you, Will! We are very fortunate to have you train with us and we look forward to helping you achieve your fitness goals!!

Balance Gym: Glover Park: what do users think?

Ashley M: I joined and was told the top floor would be closing in a week, but that ALL equipment and amenities would be retained (I was most interested in the sauna and Olympic weightlifting platforms). VERY disappointed in the false advertising. There is no longer a sauna, the locker room is TINY (the old one was super nice, the one available now is not), they got rid of the 2 Olympic weightlifting platforms, and when you email the manager to ask questions he ignores you. Really annoyed that I pay $100 a month and was told the gym has what I was looking for. When I talked to the front desk person (because the manager ignores emails), she said, “well you could go to one of our other locations if you want a sauna.” I tried to set up personal training, which you’re supposed to get 1 free session when you join, and I never could get a response from the person I was supposed to be hearing from. The person who works the front desk in the morning is often not there, so you have to wait around to get your parking validated. The pros: I really like the downstairs weightlifting room. It has a bunch of racks and free weights, and is technically a CrossFit gym even though there aren’t any official CrossFit classes offered. Some of the racks are really close together if you’re oly lifting, but we make it work. I also like that there is free parking at this location, unlike many others. Bring back the sauna and yoga classes and I’ll give a much higher rating. I can live without the oly platforms.

C E: The Go for It spirit at Balance Gym is beyond impeccable. All of us want to help out in the contribution to our wonderful community held together by the strength of our Federal Government. Imagine sitting in front of a computer screen, organizing files and papers, having important meetings day and night about policies that affect the 50 States if not the World. Yes, I would go again to Balance Gym!

Grace Phillips: Amazing facility! Very clean! Staff is very accommodating. I was only visiting for the holidays and they have a one week and a two week option! Equipment is suitable for heavy lifters and those who desire a simpler workout. They offer tons of classes at great times. I think I found my gym away from home!

Stephanie C. Giancola: An amazing gym with a phenomenal staff! Jacob, the GM was extremely patient and tending to my million questions about what the gym has to offer. Boy, was I surprised! They have a variety of good equipment available, different sections to do turf workouts, weight lifting, cardio, yoga, etc. the building used to be a spa, so the locker rooms are dreamy, and they offer specials on esthetic/massage work upstairs. I was able to take a boot camp class before signing up for a membership. The class was challenging, but within reason. The coach was enthusiastic, and everybody was having a good time. There is a Crossfit section as well! And they even offer classes like solid core, with the Pilates machine! This gym has everything you need, even parking in the back! Ask for Jacob and he’ll set you up. Also—lots of cool freebies like a free personal training session and three free Pilates reformer classes to start you off!
Response: Hi Stephanie - Thank you so much for such a detailed and positive review! Our entire team is dedicated to providing the highest quality fitness offering at a reasonable cost - very glad to hear you are among our satisfied customers! Look forward to seeing you soon at the gym! -Jacob

Gail G.: Group classes here are not very good, for the most part (definitely are exceptions- I also don't do yoga): same boring routines, same boring instructors. They do not change things up, and the popular instructors only teach 1 class a week, so that one class is packed. The group fitness used to be managed so much better-- constantly requested feedback and ideas.
Response: Hi Gail- We appreciate you leaving us feedback. My name is Jacob and I'm the General Manager of the club. While we are proud of our group exercise program, there's certainly always room for improvement, so thank you for bringing your concerns to us. Would you like to stop by my office at the gym and discuss? You can provide any additional feedback, and I can help identify the classes on our schedule that might work best for you. Just ask for Jacob at the front desk! At Balance Gym Glover Park, we're proud to offer a wide range of group fitness classes, all of which are available at no extra cost with membership. These include yoga, pilates, barre, zumba, piloxing, cycling, Balance Body, Bodypump and bootcamp. We also offer premium classes: CrossFit and DC's best Lagree program. We're here to support your fitness in every way possible. So please -- feel welcome to come on by my office and we can chat about how you can get the most out of your membership. Best, Jacob Kass General Manager, Glover Park

Maddie Mitchell: Balance Gym is truly one of the best in the city! Glover Park has super clean facilities, updated equipment, and tons of classes when I don't want to workout on my own. Trying to get my friends to join!
Response: Thanks Maddie! Glad you are enjoying! -Jacob, club GM

Momena Ali: The equipment is fine and the facility is clean but the majority of the staff are quite rude and unwelcoming. I went it and handed my card to a woman who didn't say hi back or you're welcome, and didn't even look at me. She has done this several times. Besides the friendliness of the staff, I enjoy working out there.

Seth Price: This may be one of the best kept secretes in dc. Space is smaller but not crowded. If you want a spa like atmosphere for your workout without all the usually gym rats this place is ideal My trainer moved here a few months back and I couldn"t be happier. I read a few negative reviews before I went and frankly don't get it. I was always treated well and felt it was great value.

Ryan McLaughlin: Do not do business with this company! They just sent me to a debt collections agency for a billing error THEY MADE!! I joined about a year ago and signed a contract for 6 months of crossfit because I was moving at the end of the 6 months. I paid the entire amount in full up front at the start of the contract. At the end of my 6 month membership I moved and did not expect to hear from Balance again. About 5 months later I get a email from them stating that they ran some report and found that they somehow credited my account by $214 dollars 5 months ago but were only telling me now. They have yet to provide proper documentation for this and insist I check my banking records to find their error in which they claim to have credited my account by mistake. Instead of taking the time to resolve the error they made, they sent me to collections. I instantly paid the credit collection agency as one would as to not risk having my credit score negatively effected. I'm very sad to have to write this review because I enjoyed their gym but their billing departments practices are fraudulent and highly unethical. I would highly advise anyone not to join Balance Gym.

Aaron E.: Beware of their misleading billing policies! I was a member here for a year. I emailed them in early January 2019 to cancel my membership and received a response saying (in all bold font) that since I had pre-paid my final payment, I would “have no further payments due,” and my membership would run out on March 8. Much to my surprise then, Balance charged me $29 on February 15. I emailed them and asked that this charge be removed since I was previously told that I had no further payments. The billing person (Alex) quite rudely responded to me stating that this $29 is an “enhancement fee” charged to all members on 2/15. When I insisted that this charge be reversed because I was misled by their original email, I was simply told no and that this is part of the membership agreement. A proper business would have apologized for misleading me and offered a refund for the $29. Balance, however, clearly only cares about getting as much money out of you as they can.
Response: As a courtesy, Aaron was issued a refund and we have since resolved this issue with better communication about our membership policies.

Trident Athletics (Formerly Trident CrossFit): what do users think?

Melvin Antoine Whitehead: After a few years of experiencing various CF boxes, I can honestly say that Trident ranks as my best experience. The coaches are superb; they gave me very constructive feedback, challenged me at an appropriate level, and always explained everything clearly. Great programming and warmups. The facilities are excellent—very spacious, very clean, and well-stocked with everything you need. Most importantly, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately I moved away. I very much miss being a part of Trident and miss the coaches very much.

Jenny MacGregor: I started going to Trident about three months ago, never having done CrossFit before. The staff is very welcoming and focused on helping you with your form and improving. There are scaling options available for most workouts, and the coaches are there to help you tailor the workout to your abilities, safety comes first. I started noticing the results right away, and feel much stronger than I did three months ago.
Response: Thanks for the kind words Jenny, you hit the nail on the head on what we are trying to accomplish within our community. Chriss

Sæñ M: I am amazed how coaches (Stacy, Marcus, Donnie, Kate) here come together in each class & focus on the technique and correct it when they see a problem. Their focus is on all the students throughout the class. They truly care about teaching you proper movements, and techniques. Even the assistant coaches are dedicated to helping and correcting the form and technique. The beginning of the class, coaches ask you to follow the baby steps they walk you through (whether you are experienced or newbie) so you can follow proper techniques when the actual rounds starts. There is no intimidation or competition here. Just a class full of energy, and motivation.
Response: Cant thank you enough for the kind words. And ye we do care

David Albright: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityTrident Athletics is a great gym with an amazing coaching staff. I have been a member for months and I'm really enjoying it. They have different programs for whatever you are looking for to include classes and one of the best open gym programs I've seen. Highly recommend checking them out!

Meghan Holland: I’ve been a member of trident for almost two years and I love it! The workouts are challenging, but there are always scaling options available. I’ve been crossfitting for almost 4 years, and was honestly plateaued in my performance until recently... the coaches are amazing at focusing on form, mobility, and technique to build a foundation to get better, unlike other gyms. They’re also COVID conscious with coaches in masks and social distancing. Can not recommend it enough!

Deucalion Hanley: Safety first focused! Every instructor is incredibly helpful with specific recommendations for immediate and long term improvement unique to each level of athleticism. The camaraderie is positive and infectious! Daily Group classes are challenging and fun!! Instructors and athletes create aa encouraging environment- this is NOT one of those CrossFit cult places!!
Response: We appreciate the feedback Deucalion,

William Goodman: I have been working out at Trident for about seven months now, and it's a truly great gym. Trident easily rivals other CrossFit gyms I have attended in the DC area and also when I've dropped in on out of town gyms. The coaching is really good and hands on, the community is great, and most importantly, it's fun. Highly recommend.
Response: Thanks William. We love having you. Stay Strong

Andrea May: Positive: Professionalism, QualityFrom the moment I first walked in, I was impressed with this gym. The coaches are welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional. The facility is large, very clean, and has a ton of great equipment. The class times and open gym times are really convenient, too! Definitely recommend!

Jacob McGraw: Trident has an amazing group of coaches that create an environment that welcomes all, no matter your fitness level!

Amanda Lach: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityI grew up here at Trident starting my CrossFit journey back in 2015! Great workouts, excellent Coaches, outstanding facility. I would absolutely recommend this to any athlete dropping in from out of town OR starting a new path in their fitness! #TridentStrong

Tinner Hill Crossfit: what do users think?

Katelyn Sloan: This is an AMAZING gym, and an even more amazing group of people. Kira, and Marcus are the very best, and passionate and dedicated to everyone they work with and give each client the time they deserve to set goals and make progress. I would recommend this gym to anyone looking to prioritize themselves and grow in ways they did not think possible. I had never tried CrossFit before and they welcomed me with me great patience and a super friendly environment. Could not recommend them enough!!

John Leacock: Fantastic gym! Great coaches! Excellent programming!I’m so glad I found this place. I’ve turned my couch potato lifestyle into one of fitness. The people at this gym are supportive and motivating. I cannot recommend it enough!

Melissa Horst: THCF is the best box in the area! The coaches individualize the workouts to your abilities so you're getting the best workout for you. The coaches teach you the proper technique which is essential for getting fitter/stronger and not getting injured. The coaches will also support you in your goals whether you're just starting CrossFit or if you have aspirations to go to the games. In addition to having creditable coaches, the members are friendly and encouraging as well! It's truly a great box to be a member of!

Andrew Wu: As a relatively seasoned CF athlete (first joined a box in 2017), I have been to a few boxes in the past few years. Head coach Marcus Ford and associate coach Kira Mickle are two of the best coaches I have ever met. Look, it's CrossFit, they make you work hard, but they are so hands-on and personally invested in helping each and every athlete meet their fitness goals. I've been to other boxes where the coaching is good but not so personalized. As someone who had been doing CrossFit intermittently for a few years and been doing some training on my own, I thought I was in good shape when I showed up to the box this spring March 2022. Within the first two weeks of starting, both of the coaches made it a point to talk with me, understand my fitness and training goals, and come up with a plan to help me reach those goals. This level of personal attention and commitment is unmatched at any other gym I have ever been to. Within a couple months, they have helped me work on many of my deficiencies, and I am breaking through plateaus that I had been stuck on for years! The coaches are so knowledgeable in corrective exercise and building rock solid mechanics on a huge variety of movements, from gymnastics based to strength lifts to Olympic lifting. I cannot say enough about this gym, the community is amazing. Just come check it out! I've only been here for three months, but it is already a second home for me.

Jonathan Tedla: As a former fitness professional, it’s refreshing to have coaches who truly understand the science behind movement & fitness. Marcus and Kira are amazing. Would recommend this gym to anyone interested in doing CrossFit - from beginner to expert.

B. A. Lederle: Hands down the best gym in Falls Church. Strong programming, a solid onboarding process, and a supportive environment all around. If you are looking for a box and coaches that emphasize technique, enlist every resource to ensure you reach and exceed your fitness goals, and foster a sense of community then this is the one for you.

Jake Lear: THCF is a great gym. Marcus and Kira are thoughtful, insightful trainers who will consider your needs and goals to make sure that you're getting the workout that's best for you. They'll take time to make sure your form is correct and that you aren't going to hurt yourself. They will push you hard, and you should be prepared to work hard when you come here, but it's not toxic or harsh. Work hard, see results. Furthermore, the community is great. All the folks working out here are supportive and kind without being over the top or in your face. Overall, I highly recommend checking this place out - even if CrossFit is intimidating or you have concerns about it.

chelsea balderson: I am not usually one to write reviews (this my be my first ever) but hopefully by sharing my own experience I can afford someone else the same opportunity I was given when I started at THCF. If you are trying to find your “workout home” THCF it’s definitely a step above the rest. I started cross-fitting in dental school and have been a member of two other gyms in Richmond and Knoxville. When I moved to Arlington I tried other types of fitness classes that were fun/different at first, but I always ended up feeling like I “had” to go to the gym. I eventually still found my way back to xfit. After trying a couple other crossfit gyms in the area I finally found Tinner Hill CrossFit via friend recommendation, needless to say I never looked back. I personally feel THCF is more than just another Crossfit box, the members of this gym are my family. I haven’t felt this type of team support since high school swim team. This gym has a phenomenal group of coaches that are 100% there to see each member safely and efficiently achieve their goals and push them to be a better version of themselves. This is a group of people that support each other and push each other day after day, week after week, year after year… if any of this resonates with you I know we all look forward to meeting new people that will add to our THCF family!!!

Matthew kilroe: If your looking for an inclusive group to support you in your goals, there is not a better place thanTinnerr Hill Cross Fit. Since coming back after covid, I have lost 36 lbs, and could not have done it without the support of the coaches at Tinner Hill Cross Fit. It won't be easy, but it is sure rewarding. Best gym ever! MK

Jean Schumacher: Tinner Hill CrossFit is my fifth CrossFit gym in almost eight years and is hands down the best one I have experienced. The coaching is unlike anything I have had before; the attention to detail both in movement and personal fitness goals has helped me get to the best shape of my life. I have confidence in myself now that I have never had before THCF. I am eternally grateful to the coaches who have helped me get to this point and I HIGHLY recommend coming to try it out!

Darrin Clement: I was visiting town, and these folks had the absolute best options for open gym! I got to observe some classes, which were well run, while I was in the corner doing my own thing. Very good equipment and convenient location. Staff were much friendlier than some of the other CrossFit gyms in DC LOL!
Response: Thanks Darrin, we appreciate the kind words! It was great having you join us for a few days - impressive oly technique! 💪💪 We look forward to seeing you next time you’re in town.

Mary Jacoby: Ballston Cross Fit is the truly the best. The coaches are friendly and extremely well trained. They help beginners but also encourage people to continue taking their fitness to the next level. I unfortunately had to end my membership due to a move and miss this place a lot.
Response: Thank you, Mary! We hope to see you back at BCF whenever you are in the area!!

Grace Conerly: I dropped in for a couple days and had a great experience. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable, and obviously cared about anyone who walked through the doors. From my brief experience, it seems like it is a perfect affiliate for competitive athletes as well as beginners. BCF also has excellent facilities and equipment and is very clean. Highly recommend for anyone dropping in!
Response: Thanks Grace! Great to have you visit us and appreciate this feedback coming from a fellow CrossFit coach!
