Byte Back: what do users think?

David Whitney: Byte Back is an organization driven by solutions, results, and impacts. Byte Back continues to successfully bridge the Digital Divide. It does so by providing historically excluded communities an equitable pathway into the Digital Economy. This is done through transformative digital advocacy, digital literacy, and tech certifications. I strongly recommend donating to Byte Back in support of its mission, vision, and impact.
Response: We appreciate your kind words!!!! Thank you!

Ana A: I attended the virtual info session last week and my experience was positive. The session was well organized, professional and everything was communicated clearly and multiple times even after folks kept interrupting with questions and topics that were not relating to the session. Ms Stallings did a great job facilitating all this in a timely manner, with help from Ms Farmer. I am a potential student, pending the results from the session, just wanted to give my view/review.
Response: Thank you so much for your review and we're so happy you got the information you needed at our Info Session!

Bella Love: As a recent A+ graduate, I can only contribute my success to ByteBack. I heard of the program from a family member who was enrolled over 10 years ago! Thankfully, classes were being offered for PG residents in which I passed the assessment, went through the interview process and was accepted into the IT professional track. The entire process for me was 11 months but the actual certification course is about 6 months. I appreciate the staff so much, it really is a family atmosphere and that is one reason I'm currently volunteering as a Teacher's Aide. I enjoy being there and also helping people learn skills that'll help not only professionally but personally as well. This program truly was and is a blessing and I'm looking forward to contributing in any way I can.
Response: Thank you, Bella! We're so thankful for your work as a volunteer and can't wait to see where your skills take you in your future!

Edmund Price: A great learning environment. The instructors are dedicated and friendly. Initially, I didn't have much luck getting certified with other educational organizations, so when I started at Byte Back I was glad to figure out that the staff actually wanted to help me. Not only did I pass my classes within less then a year and become certified, but I was even brought in to participate in an internship. The opportunity to put what I learned to work immediately helped to solidify the things I've learned and I'm very grateful that they had me.
Response: One of the best interns ever!! So excited for your new skills and your future success, Edmund! Keep it up!

Marty Wrin: I came to Byte Back with some IT experience but no certifications. There was an orderly process for applying and I was notified of my acceptance in a timely manner. I took the IT Fundamentals class with Andrew. He is engaging and patient. He mixed videos with lectures and PowerPoint presentations to deliver the content. With his help I easily passed the CompTIA ITF exam and began my career in IT! A big benefit of Byte Back over many other places is the additional resources and connections. Both during and after my time as a student, I was invited to career events, networking events, and even conferences via Byte Back. I have taken IT courses at several institutions and Byte Back is by far the best. I believe in Byte Back so much that I chose to come back and work here as an IT Specialist!
Response: You were a great student and participant, Marty! Now we're so thrilled to have you on staff, giving back your skills and knowledge to IT students. So amazing! Go Byte Back Alumni!!

Tamara Waller: I had a great experience during my time at Byte Back. I enrolled in the IT Track. Eliana was great going through an Office refresher course. Then we moved on to IT Fundamentals with Andrew. He made class interesting and interactive. A+ was taught by Marty Wrin. He was very patient and knowledgeable. Byte Back also provides great support services such as resume review and monthly metro cards. I passed A+ thanks to the help of Byte Back.
Response: We're so proud of you, Tamara! Can't wait to see where those skills and cert take you. Go Byte Back Alumni!!

Debbra Dot: I attended the Byte Back info session, our instructor was Amanda. As soon as I walked through the door I received nothing, but good vibes. The receptionist was friendly. The instructor Amanda was knowledgeable, clear, and stayed on task. I walked out of the info session knowing what to expect. However, Amanda was condescending. I don't know if she's used to working with children, but if she learn a better way to talk to adult she would be a awesome instructor.
Response: Hi Debbra, thank you for attending the Info Session and for your feedback. We've passed it on to our team. We strive to provide high quality free instruction specifically designed for the special needs of adult learners, so we're sorry to hear that your experience didn't quite hit the mark. We will definitely try to improve this going forward. Hope to see you back at Byte Back for a class soon!

Ronald Lewis: Very dysfunctional organization. I took the Microsoft Excel Specialist acceptance test in late August of 2018, which was given by Amanda. She told the prospective students that there was a new process where we had to apply through D.C. Department of Employment Services for funding. I called several times to find out if I passed and never received any return calls. I made several e-mail attempts which I did not receive a call back. After making one final attempt in October of 2018 to Amanda, she finally called my back around October 23, 2018 that I passed the Excel test and had been accepted. I received the neccessary paper and I applied for funding through the Department of Employment Services. I received my funding from DOES by email and received a call from Amanda at Byte Back as a follow-up. Amanda informed me that Byte Back did not need the funding from DOES for my to attend the Microsoft Excel Certification class. So, I assumed the funding would be returned to DOES. What upset me was Byte Byte accepted the money from DOES anyway (which was pretty shady in my opinion) instead of returning it to DOES like they should of done. My feeling is since I was told they didn't need the funding, those funding dollars should been returned, so I could of used those training dollars for another program through DOES. As far as the training I received it was top notch from Andrew Quilpa, he's the best! He is very patient and truly underutilized at Byte Back. He could be teaching more Excel advanced classes there. I did receive my Microsoft Excel Certification in January of 2019. I know it my sound like I'm posting sour grapes, but Byte Back won an award in 2018 for excellence. So I would expect every aspect of the operation to function as such, not like an experience at an ordinary DMV office where you continually call and don't get answers. Or, some boiler room operation that takes money for a deposit for a product, but doesn't return the money as they should when circumstances change.
Response: Ronald, Thank you for your review and sorry for the confusion about funding. To clarify, your spot in this course had one source of funding, through DOES. Byte Back NEVER uses double funding sources. In fact, Byte Back had to cover costs for this course in addition to what was received from DOES to make sure the course was free for you. It isn't our policy to explain funding to each individual student because we have a variety of sources for all of our students and courses, and it's quite complicated. So, we apologize for the lack of clarity in your case. Also, we understand the process with DOES can be lengthy, but, in the end, it saves you - the student - thousands of dollars, which we think ends up being a pretty great deal. Thank you for your participation in our program and congratulations on your certification! Despite the confusion about funding, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the class and that you were successfully prepared for your certification exam at the end. And we hope you consider those as positive things in your time at Byte Back and in your career journey. We wish you the very best, and we're happy to respond personally to any follow-up concerns or questions you might have.

CheikhM Bengue: It was great experience being at Byteback, was able to get certify with cost free, Andrew, and Marty were very helpful while I was taking class, will definitely recommend friends, and family of that opportunity. Do not regret the time I've spent as student at Byteback and great relationships, I've developed from educational, and relationships with peer and staff. I cannot wait to give back the same opportunity, help I was given. Thanks again, infinitely. Big up to "Marty".
Response: We're so glad that free training helped to make your learning experience possible, Cheikh!! Excited to find out where your skills and drive lead you in the future!

Loretta Howell: I started my Byteback experience in November 2016. I do not believe my experience could have been any better, from the variety of receptionists to the instructors. I have taken a total of three classes so far, I am currently studying IT Fundamentals. WHERE DO YOU GET THESE PEOPLE FROM??? They are heaven sent. I knew little about utilizing my personal computer to the fullest. I feel more empowered as a result. Leo, Shannon, Bock, Derek, Dasea, and Andrew you ARE SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!
Response: Your story is so touching, and thank you SO MUCH, Loretta. We're so happy to be able to help you in your education and career journey and can't wait to see where the future will take you!

Career Technical Institute: what do users think?

Canisha Russell: This is by far the WORST technical institute I've ever known of. The instructors are terrible. The staff I've come across from being in the Help Desk classes are terrible. They CLEARLY do NOT like their jobs and hate being there. Helping people is not at the top of their priority list. They seem EXTREMELY lazy. It's no way you all have attitudes by 12pm. I've graduated as of Feb. 11 but it's March 8 and if I didn't call to make sure everything on my end is done, they wouldn't have told me about a balance. Furthermore, nobody knows anything. I ask one person one thing and she's passing me off to someone else who doesn't know anything.

donna leehancock: Excellent staff, great interaction w the students. The professor and the assistant e collect instructors. Clean, organized, up to date on studies needed for 21 century, assess to and from the Metro, as well as practicing OSAHA and HIPPA. I would definitely recommend institute for a change in careers or simply learning a new occupation within this job market. Excellent!!!!!!

Morgan Paul: I graduated in 2016 and haven't received my certificate. This school made it difficult for me to work and provide for my family. Which left me in debt. Which they told me I qualified for a free grant which I didn't have to payback. Which was a lie. They even garnished my taxes to pay them off. And I still have nothing to show for my supposed to accomplishments.

Abdul Hamrah: Very bad experience I was there for 6 months 3 teacher changed and they change most of class materials I was so confused after a few month they said you are done I have not gotten any support and any certification and just wasted my time and money. Please feel free to call me if any prove for bad experiences I talk with prove
Response: Hi Abdul, we're so sorry that you've had a bad experience here at CTI. Please call us at 202-932-0630. We'd really like to speak with you about your time here.

Joselyn Alvarez: The school has motivated me to become my best self. The teachers and staff are so wonderful and helpful, the programs offer a variety of career paths, and i wouldn't go to any other school. 12/26/21 UPDATE Needed to come on the record and say that my original 5 star review is only because the teachers tell you to write a 5 star review in exchange for a good grade, credit, or extra points on an exam. Don't believe all the good reviews on here. I graduated April 2020 from the Medical Assistant program and have yet to receive a certificate of completion despite multiple attempts to contact the registrar. There should be no reason for them to withhold my diploma as they already received all my completion documentation AND i qualified for FAFSA so they already received all the money from my student loan servicer. This place is a scam and I wish I had gone somewhere else.

Jay Da Will: The staff is great. I’m a student taking part in the IT program that they offer here and the courses are worth every dime. You truly gain knowledge and receive tons of help if you put in the effort. Since I’ve been here, I been able to build a very great relationship with my financial aid advisor and my academic advisor as I contiune to excel on my way to graduation. They’ve helped me along th at keeping me in check with my grades, attendance, as well as the goals I set at the start of my enrollment. If you show you want it, the opportunity at the end is very bright for anyone who wants to enroll. Jerome Student of Career Technical Institute
Response: Thank you for the kind words, Jerome! It really is our ultimate goal to help students get started in a new career they'll love. Our staff members want to see students succeed and we're proud you have experienced this! Keep up the hard work. You'll be finished with your training and working in the IT field before you know it!

pamela byrd: Find a different school it don’t feel like I have graduated, I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything and I been done since February... and I still have not received my diploma ima contact department of education and student loans to look in this this school because I’m not about to pay student loans and I haven nothing to show for it. I still haven’t received my degree and it’s been 4 months going on 5 since I was told I was finished... find a better school this one is not it!! Just dept and more bills
Response: Pamela, we are sorry for the frustration you are experiencing. We see you are an online student and reached out to the Linda, Instructor Manager of Online Operations, you mention above. She is trying very hard to help you with everything you need and sounds like you have good communication going. She's been working on getting you the weekly forms you need and now the transcripts to get you to the next step. Keep contacting her direct. She is definitely trying to help!

Corene Bryant: I am a successful student and graduate of CTI Help Desk program from back in 2014. I have obtain a Help Desk Certificate from this school. After the program I was also placed on my first IT Contract with the job placement as guaranteed. I am now a student with the online classes for the AAS-Information Technology to obtain my very first degree. I am also still successfully placed in my career field since 2014. I do recommend this school. Always remember you are in charge of your destiny. Also, I want to thank this school for everything! Corene Bryant Successful Student
Response: Thank you for the good feedback! We are so happy that you have had a good experience at CTI. You have a bright future ahead of you. We look forward to seeing you succeed!

Vanessa Thomas: From the moment I met with Sylvia Williams my experience at CTI has been wonderful. Both of my instructors Ms. Cowley and Ms. Dixon are great teachers and are very knowledgeable about the information. It has been very fast paced but has helped me with my time management and I have acquired the skills and confidence to work in a medical setting.
Response: Hi Vanessa, thank you for the nice review! We're happy to hear that CTI has helped improve your skills!

Brande' F: I enjoyed my experience at this school so far as being in the hospitality class. I miss being guided by Mr. Aquino because as the class knew, he wanted the best for all of us. Then when Mrs. Brown came, she helped me along with others study for certifications. Idk why people not coming to enjoy the knowledge. Its way too easy!! Well if you take notes and follow along ... Its the same work, just worded differently. I already asked several times about the Associates Degree.

Softek Services, Inc.: what do users think?

Charlotte Lewis: Great experience! I recently took the introductory courses for Microsoft Access and Visio. The instructors were extremely patient, informative, and kept the pace of the class flowing and participants interacting. We were provided with book materials, but I learned heavily from the instructor examples, and they walked me through each exercise. Class times may vary. The two intro classes I took lasted from 9AM-4PM with sufficient breaks. The costs also vary. Each full day class was approximately $300, but there are group rates if your organization enrolls together. IT can be rough, but they made it very interesting!

Austin Graff: I work in digital marketing for a large human rights organization and was looking for an intro to Photoshop class to help me in creating social media shareables. I researched a few places in DC and Softek offered the course at a reasonable price. Since the price tag was lower than others i looked at, I assumed it wouldn't be as great of quality, but I was wrong. The class was from 9AM-4PM and I learned more than the basics of Photoshop. The instructor was very knowledgeable and had a way to really connect with her students in explaining complex ideas. I highly recommend this place for Photoshop training! After just one class, I tested what I learned and made this social media shareable: on.fb.me/1rxsYEl. Thanks, Softek!

Paul Drew: I loved the quality of teaching. Everything was so easy to learn. Michelle was so hilarious throughout all 3 days. Would love to go back to a different classes.

Jonathan Etheridge: Great school and staff to teach literally everything about Tech and Computers, preparing you for your certification and/or career or career advancement. Great place as the IT industry is last of a dying breed!.

University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC): what do users think?

Henok D: The most terrible school I have ever been to. Both the main campus and the Community college are the same. A lot of slow, unprofessional, and rude staff who keep yelling at students when they are not even doing their jobs properly. I submitted a certain paper to the Financial Aid office and they told me they lost the paper after weeks that I had to pay about $1700 out of pocket. During the 2020 Pandemic, I tried to contact them as I was having difficulty to waive the Student Insurance that is provided through the school because I already had an insurance coverage; no one answered my call until it was due. And now Miss Gaskon told me that I have to pay about $1300 for the coverage I never needed. Mis Gascon was there in 2018/19 when I had the same issue; she helped me waive it then. I could not go to her office in 2020 be a of Covid restrictions. I tried to solve the issue communicating with them but nothing got better yet. I would not recommend anyone to go the UDC unless one needs a headache. I cannot deny that there are some great Professors such as Prof. Sonnie Abebaku. However, individuals are very helpful to us, it’s overall experience at the university that makes a difference in our academic lives. So far, my overall experience is just TERRIBLE!

Danielle Carroll: I went to school here for my AA and it was a breeze. Yes the admissions needs some work (never fixed it) but the education, the teachers and the school itself is fine. It's so affordable and you can always learn something new. I got a paid internship through UDC and even though with it's slight hiccups, this school is still great. I'm at the main campus now working on my Bachelors and I'm 16 classes shy of finishing. Don't pay the haters any mind.

Edgar E: Worst administration I have ever had to deal with. Not only do they never respond to email or phone calls, they can't even keep track of ELECTRONIC applications, that required my daughter to submit 3 times and be forced enrolled late into classes due to their incompetence. But they also can't even have the literacy to read the applications correctly to charge the correct rate to students. They went ahead to charge not only my daughter but several other students out-of-state resident rates when all their applications illustrated DC residents. Like how can you not even read what's on the applications! How many other students were charged nearly 3 times when they should have been charged as a DC residents scares me on the level of corruption and neglect this body demonstrates to it's it's attendees.0 Then to not even have the decency and competence to even respond to emails and calls to try to correct this is just completely absurd, no wonder UDC is a laughing stock of a school to attend they can't even serve as a place to get extra credits for actual schools. How neglectful can you be to students and applicants, like seriously!

Lucien Graves: I was interested in nursing but the department leads never answer even with me contacting them daily for the last 3 months. Not to mention the admissions department takes 2 weeks to email back and never answers a single call. Just go in person, it's faster but still highly unprofessional since they eat and have conversations with others in front of you. You can see why they never answer.

Yesly Turcios: GLEN DOMINA rudest person ever if you are working under a facility and a Student is inquiring on information/assistance you should be able to provide that at your upmost ability but unfortunately that was not the case here..

Danny Hirschfield: I graduated UDC-CC with an AA degree in Liberal Studies Fall Class of 2015 Alumnus. This college really helped me develop my learning skills as I am an older non-traditional student that started as a freshman with very little prior knowledge and discipline in academia. I have transitioned to the UDC flagship campus pursuing my BA degree in Political Science as a pre-law student. This university is the most affordable place to get a good quality education being the only public higher learning institution in Washington, D.C.

Jamilya Allen: Okay So I applied about 3weeks to a month ago and I’ve yet to receive any papers informing me if I was missing any documents or etc. I’ve called at least 5 times a day for about two weeks straight leaving voicemail after voicemail and no one has yet to return my call not only did I call multiple times I have also emailed them multiple and no response. It’s ridiculous what’s the point of having an admissions office if they not even going to pick up the phone, guide you in the process of being admitted or anything else like you guys get paid to do nothing it’s sad.

h T: This University has only good professors! But getting a Bachelor from the UDC will not get you a job!! Their jobs faire is just to get a website from the companies and brochures lol!

Jordan Stewart: The financial aid lady with gray hair and dreads is disrespectful af. Most of the staff here are disorganized and rude. I disenrolled 2 months ago. When I went to disenroll the lady was eating crab legs in front of me. Come to find out she never really disenrolled me, and I had to go back up there today. Smh. I really wanted this to work bc I’m a Dc Resident but I’m enrolling at PGCC.

New Horizons Computer Learning Centers: what do users think?

Khari Garrett: You'd be better off taking courses at a community college. I only had one teacher in this school that actually taught really substantial information in a way that the entire class could understand. The other teacher was a daily series of soliloquies who did not possess the ability to explain course materials in a flexible fashion. In addition, the school handles some things im a very immoral fashion. First, if you are a veteran, the school will raise your tuition, after you start courses, so they can charge the government more. I'd think veterans would want to stretch their GI Bill funds as far ac possible. Finally, the was an incident where one student lightly assaulted another student over a simple conversation about GOT, and the school did absolutely nothing about it. This school is horrible and I believe if more classroom students at the McLean location weren't so afraid of rubbing someone the wrong way, this place wood have more negative reviews. Honestly, if you really want to learn, at least hop to a community college where class costs are low, where teachers don't have to cram so much information into a short period of time, and where you don't have to repeat the class more than once to gain the substance needed.

Khalid Darab: Critical: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueBunch of false advertising, teachers just waste time and read directly from the book, career guy doesn't even help you find a real job, horrible school. They ripped me off for a lot of money, almost $19,000. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND, stay away, you're better off self studying.

sebastien salcedo: I think it's a big deal. The teachers work for free, they have 3 employees who are in charge of hundreds of students. The online system is very deficient, almost at the end of the course the person in charge connected to explain how to use the code of the books????. Some teachers are very good others are not but as they work for free there is no option to do anything. In the zoom chat explain that we are at level 2, you have to use simple words, speak slowly and articulate the words......

Annie Prusky: Positive: Professionalism, ValueI have been a volunteer at WEC for several years; this is a truly community-oriented organization that provides excellent education with care.

Alejandro Rizo: It is a very good institute and I recommend it.

Michael Hunter: It's fine to take a certification exam here. Be sure to park in the visitor spots. They say you have to pay to park your car if you are there more than two hours. I have no idea who you would pay.

michael chadic: Hands down one of the best training companies I have worked with. I am active duty Coast Guard in the Alexandria area, and we have sent many members through here for various training, and have had them all pass their exams and receive their certifications! The personnel and instructors are amazing, and a personal shout out to our sales rep I have been working with, Enrique Kalb, who has been instrumental in coordinating and processing our member's request quickly and ensuring they had everything they needed. Thanks to Enrique, signing up for classes has been pain free and no issues with any of our members! I would highly recommend Secure Ninja for any training you or your company needs to stay certified in this ever changing IT world.
Response: It means a lot to each of us when someone takes the time to recognize the work we do. In today's highly competitive market, we especially appreciate your compliments. Thank you for your review, and best wishes.

will richter: Thank you Secure Ninja helping our team getting through all our Mission Critical IT Certification Requirements for our cyber security needs. We have used other trainers and providers in the past with some success. But you guys helped our team succeed like no other. Truly the best IT training we have ever had. We will use you in the future for our Consulting and Certification needs. Happy to give reference as such. We would highly recommend your company Secure Ninja for IT training needs. Thank you again for a great job. We our all truly grateful.
Response: Thank you for your generous response to SecureNinja team. In today's highly competitive market, we especially appreciate your compliments. Best wishes.

Nicholas Riggins: Nice area to attend an in person class and the atmosphere is perfect for learning. While in in the classroom during Coronavirus, I'm the only one here. Even the instructor is online. I appreciate SecureNinja allowing me to be here. Far too many distractions at home to focus.

neural neural: I've been trained in their facility on technically advanced computer security topics that require sharp programming skills multiple times and hands down their instructors are top notch pros with a solid theoretical knowledge of the material that gets shadowed by their even more pronounced real life experiences applying it in Gov'nt and Military organizations, reputable financial/banking institutions and retail giants. My evaluation is based on the quality of the material used to help the students digest the concepts taught along with the hands-on skills of the instructors teaching the class in such a short period of time and NOT on the logistics of setting up a class that's COMPLETELY UNrelated with the main focus of a training course, which is to LEARN, the best ROI money can buy. I'll confidently be re-joining future sessions at SecureNinja on the same or other topics to refresh my skill set or pick up a new one and help my career advancement.
Response: We greatly appreciate that you have chosen our course. We are glad to hear that you found the training sessions helpful. It is always good to hear that we have made a difference. Thank you for your review, and best wishes.

Bryan McGill: Critical: Professionalism, Quality, ValueTest Taking Only: Their test center is terrible, and the office staff or even those in the foyer outside the suite, can easily be heard in the testing center. If you don't mind distractions go for it, but if you like quiet, do not go here.
Response: Dear Bryan, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations. It was an uncommon instance and we’ll do better. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service +1 703 535 8600 with any further comments, concerns, or suggestions you wish to share. Omar Chaaban: I wish I have taken these two cool courses CEH and Advanced Cyber War before. They are exactly to what I needed and expected. I have learned a lot of tips on how to use my expertise in performing offensive and defensive. The boot camp provided me enough knowledge and by studying during the 5 days period I was able to pass the CEH exam. I would recommend these coursed for those who are black Hat as well as white hat. Special thanks to our instructor Joe. Looking forward to take more follow up course in 2020.
Response: We greatly appreciate that you have chosen our course. We are glad to hear that you found the training sessions helpful. It is always good to hear that we have made a difference. Thank you for your review, and best wishes.

Jeremy Parker: 5/5 stars for SecureNinja!! Secure Ninja is an amazing Organization. Outstanding staff and experts training. Fuwad Tufail was fantastic!! Assisted me from registration up to the completion of the course. Answered all my questions in detail. Amazing person to work with, extremely detail oriented!!! Can’t wait to attend my next training/bootcamp at secure ninja Alexandria!
Response: We greatly appreciate that you have chosen our course. We are glad to hear that you found the training sessions helpful. It is always good to hear that we have made a difference. Thank you for your review, and best wishes.

Steve Kadish: I travelled from New York to Virginia to attend SecureNinja’s week-long “Python Immersion” class, taught by Joe McCray. I was pretty excited about it. My excitement faded quickly. I guess I should have worried when I when I walked through the unlocked back door of the office building and was shown into a classroom without anyone asking my name or confirming my enrollment. I should have worried when there was only one other student in the class. I should have worried when SecureNinja’s Director of Customer Success had a Colorado phone number. By the end of the first day I had realized how bad this was going to be. You will not get immersed in Python in this class. Rather, you’ll occasionally get splashed with Python from Joe’s shallow pool of knowledge. This will mostly take the form of running other people’s scripts to automate offensive and defensive security tasks. Joe didn’t write most of the scripts, and sometimes doesn’t really know what’s in them. There was a lot of Googling to find answers to questions we asked. In the meantime, Joe expected us to learn Python the way HE learned it - from YouTube. He assigned it for homework - ten YouTube videos a night. Not Joe’s videos mind you. Just a series of Python tutorials posted five years ago by some young coder named Bucky. . There were no coursebooks. No hand-outs. No slide decks. There was just Joe, plowing through a bunch of text he’d put on PasteBin five years ago. Much of the text - the entire lesson on Regex, the entire lesson on Python classes - was pulled verbatim from other people’s lessons or articles. I could take the text and plug it into Google to find the original source material. Joe’s stuff is old. He teaches Python 2, despite the fact that it’s going to be deprecated in less than a year. The class material hasn’t changed much in the last five years. You can look at his PasteBin to see how he’s been copying from class to class for years. The software you use in the class is old. We used a copy of Olly Debug that was from 2004. On the second day, Joe laid out his philosophy on programming for us. Don’t be a programmer. Don’t get too involved in the syntax of any one language. All the interpreted languages are pretty much the same, anyway. Don’t code more than an hour a day. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Pretty much everything you’re looking for has been done by someone else and you can find it via Google. After a lot of emails back and forth between myself, my boss, and the SecureNinja Director of Customer Success, the class started to become less structured. This was both good and bad. Good because Joe was actually talking about stuff he knew, bad because it wasn’t about Python. He started pulling material from his other PasteBin “classes.” One morning was all about Web Application security testing. Basic SQLi & XSS stuff I learned ten years ago when I did my GSEC. We used SQLmap which is *written* in Python - does that count? On Friday Joe decided we were going to develop our own tools with Python. This was great except he had nothing prepared. So the day was just us trying to write our own scripts while Joe Googled stuff and read tutorials, trying to help but mostly working on his own on his laptop. At 1:45 pm he announced that class was over, because he had to get to the airport and fly to his next conference speaking gig. By the way, if you are considering paying SecureNinja $3,000 for one of Joe’s classes, first be aware that all of his lessons are publicly available on PasteBin. Also, that he sells his classes online at his other organization, InfosecAddicts, for considerably less money. Not to mention the fact that he has actually recorded a bunch of his LIVE classes and thrown them up on YouTube. But your $3,000 will get you lunch every day, and fancy smart whiteboards. So that’s what SecureNinja is good for. Meanwhile, if you want to learn to write Python scripts, maybe do it the way Joe did? Watch YouTube.
Response: Dear Steve Kadish, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry your experience didn’t match your expectations. It was an uncommon instance and we’ll do better. John Haider: A lot of information provided in such short time, pretty overwhelming, however, SecureNinja made sure I did well and helped me pass my CEH. Thank you guys so much

Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies: what do users think?

Hemant Gaule: Great institution, excellent faculty and resources available to students. A lot of impressive events and conferences are hosted at the institute.

Amy Friedlander: Like many others have said, the support staff, to include the Deans Office, is absolutely awful. Unhelpful, discourteous, unprofessional. I expected so much more from this institution, but the SCS is a disappointment and can only be described as a mediocre school at best.

Larry Poe: The classes and the professors are superlative. However, I concur with many comments here....THE SUPPORT STAFF SUCKS!!! You expect a lot more from the admissions office, registrar and folks that answer the phones (oh, by the way, if you call the SCS you usually receive the voice mail) when you pay 60K for a Master's degree. Georgetown is truly "resting on its laurels" and academic reputation in the customer service department. Every time I needed assistance from someone, it was as if I was asking for a favor and not paying for a service (lots of attitude and unhelpful comments). CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TRULY NOT A PRIORITY AT THIS INSTITUTION....
Response: Dear Larry, Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding Georgetown SCS’s Emergency & Disaster Management program in the Middle East. We’re sorry to hear that the student support services have not met your expectations thus far. We’d very much appreciate the opportunity to speak with you further about your experience and do what we can to help with any outstanding issues. A member of your program support team will be reaching out to you as soon as possible to arrange a time to discuss. Sincerely, Office of the Dean, SCS

Karina Valverde: I love being a student on campus again. In pursuit of my masters in Public Relations and Corporate Communications. This campus is for the grad school and certificate programs. The culture is professional, high caliber students.

Patrick Revord: Convenient location, beautiful building, great instruction and great classmates. Georgetown runs a class act, even away from its main campus.

Monica Puerto: I enrolled into the Data Science Certificate Program at Georgetown. It is a waste of money and your time unless you have a robust background in Python. Most students did not because this certificate program appears to help you turn into one. I have background in SQL and data analytics and was hoping to gather some skills to make me a data scientist. Although I understand that a certificate program can’t turn you into one (although the marketing and messaging of this makes it appear so with the “robust” curriculum). This was purely taught on slides and wish it was more hands on. It is very expensive and you don’t start learning till the 3rd class. The first class was an introduction on what is data science (around $900) for some powerpoint you could have read at home. Second class was to get into groups to create a data product on a process that you barely know about. I recommend General Assembly they are more hands on. Although they don’t have the prestigious name (which I think Georgetown takes advantage of to teach this way), you will learn more and actually do projects AFTER you learn the material. I thankfully dropped out and sadly was only refunded the classes I did not take although intro to data science and getting into groups does not feel like real classes..
Response: Dear Monica—Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding Georgetown SCS’s Data Science Certificate program. We’re sorry to hear that the program did not meet your expectations. We've received your feedback on the course and have worked to integrate improvements, including communicating the Python expectation and resources available to students. We invite you to speak further about your experience by contacting a staff member of the Center for Continuing and Professional Education by email at ccpeprograms@georgetown.edu or by calling 202-687-8128. Sincerely, Andrew (Office of the Dean, SCS Georgetown University)

Don Johnson: Thought Google users might enjoy seeing what this building looked like in 1919.(credit: Library of Congress)

Rose T.J. Perna: Georgetown SCS staff are unorganized, unresponsive and unprofessional. My son had a horrible experience with the administration. They do not return phone calls or emails. It may be an "elite school" but the SCS program has less than stellar staff and administration. I hope that they clean up quick, his actual program was very well and the insturctors were very qualified. But if you need a document or any type of administration assistance- you'd be better off going to another school.
Response: Hi Rose! Thank you for your message. We're sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for being in touch so we were able to resolve your issue.

Gouled Hosh: I would like to study here for my EHLS program next year.

syed pervez: One of the best schools in DMV area.

Per Scholas: what do users think?

Sam J: Asking where are you from or what is your first language during an admission interview after passing 2 assessments is questionable???!! ..i felt discriminated and not given a chance at all ,i had a high hopes for this program in order to change my life i guess i was wrong (NOTHING IS FREE)!

Samantha Trimmings: Positive: Communication, Quality, ValueI loved my experience at Per Scholas in Silver Spring, if I could get the opportunity to work with them again I definitely would! I was able to get my. I.T certification while also obtaining hands on training!! They are awesome 🤩

tony p: just a awful program!!! after they get you enrolled it will be all down hill. RONALD & MONDARRYL are rude, condescending, & flat out DISRESPECTFUL to adults. The addmission people are a joke and do NOT know the full scope of there job! Admission will say anything to get you in and then once your in KENYA director of student experience will not care about your experience. DO NOT ENROLL its a waste of time and PER SCHOLAS has a large number of students THAT DO NOT PASS THERE COURSE, the website is broken and they will blame you as the student and they are FULLY AWARE of the bugs. Most of the work you will be doing DOESNT APPLY OR HELP FOR TESTING! PER SCHOLAS IS A GIANT WASTE OF TIME. FLAT OUT THEY DONT CARE

Hasan Gunduz: Critical: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValuePoor quality, value and almost zero communication. Not professional at all. Total waste of time. Site director is the worst. They don't care.

Jwootheartist: I am dissapointed in Per Scholas technique to weed througg potential students. Standardized exams do not prove the ability of a student to complete and pass a training program. I honestly will never be great at Math and I am wise enough to stick to my craft, which is Listening, improvising, creating, concentration, percision, innovation, and the ability to think outside the box. I actually excelled in reading and application which is how one passes the Comptia Exams. Its about gaining knowledge that is at first abstract and applying it. Computing numbers is a small part of Network and Security, however listening and understanding and application is the core. If I already posses an A+ exam it proves I am more than capable. I feel standardizing is a way of filtering due to funds. I understand it is just business, but just know I am dissapointed that your funding is given to help people but it also discriminates against people like me who are an abatract learner. Sure I can pass next year, but attending a school that wants to standardize me to get in, but then wants me to excell and be great after is very contradicting and confusing. Btw I already passed a training program for my A+ and have been certified since 2012 2013. And i graduated with a 4.0.smh.
Response: Hi Jwootheartist. We're sorry that you didn't have a positive experience with Per Scholas. We work hard to make our admissions process as fair as we can, but we understand that we can always do better. We appreciate your feedback and we wish you all the best!

Degefa Lambebo: Disrespect for the students during interviews to admissions process who working national capital regional (silver spring MD)1400 spring st.They email to me “we are unable to move forward with you for the up coming course”without any clarification...
Response: Hi Degefa. We're sorry to learn that you didn't have a positive experience with Per Scholas during your application process. Although we don't have capacity to admit every applicant, we try to treat everyone with respect. We're grateful for your honest feedback and we will do our best to ensure that other applicants don't have the same experience.

Charles Y: The school does a great job of helping with standardized info needed to pass the Comp Tia exam. I have had a great experience.

University of the District of Columbia: what do users think?

Carolyn Taylor: This was a enjoyable experience, the seating was great for Covid safety . I would definitely attend an event here again

nina: The worst university ever, my experience at this university has been draining and miserable. Some off the professor are rude and highly unprofessional. I had one professor a couple off years ago name Samuel Walters tell me that he doesn't have to respond to my emails, and if I reported him they wouldn't even listen to me. I will never forget that, it was odd to me as well because, other professors' I had encouraged students to email, and come in during office hours for assistance. I reported this to the dean, and she told me that professors' are not obligated to respond to students' emails. I couldn't believe it, in addition I wrote the president off the school who is a joke in my opinion, and he never responded. Anything, goes at this University. I blame myself, for returning to this school I was told things have changed, and it has not. Different departments loose papers, I had turn in my vaccine exemption forms August 02, 2021 and was told it was never received. When, I inquired about the documents again, the representative had told me they forgot to submit the documents to another department. But, by then I was already dropped from my courses. At this point, I said forget it, I am glad I transferred to another University that's extremely professional, the transition was great. The staff are rude as well, I remember almost getting cursed out by a lady in the student health department, because I simply asked if my health waiver was received, she was so rude. I honestly, despise this University. Returning, to this University as a readmit student was not worth it, it's beyond me because, UDC reached out to me to come back this past summer and it's still a joke. The women bathrooms, are a joke it's been like that since I started a couple off years ago. Some, off the doors don't lock, the library needs to be remodeled. I remember part off the ceilings in one bathroom was completely missing. Elevators were not working, and some parts off the building were not cleaned, the math tutoring lab couple off years ago was, leaking and ceiling was completely gone. I believe, some individuals work at this University because they can display their dispicable disposition. It really, amazes that the student center is appealing. But, if you go to other departments off the campus the conditions, are horrible or layout is outdated. I blame myself for being at this University for so long, never again.

Mohamed Moustaghfir: I wish I finished my nursing degree. So many UDC graduates 🎓 get successful professional life. A friend of a friend back in the end of the last century, moved back to Ethiopia and started his own company. I also learned a girl moved to Dubai and became the youngest successful millionaire at her twenties. Success is you, but the school and faculties help also mold you a pathway. Look at me now doing pizza delivery. Making people days when I'm sadly sad.

angel almonte: One of the best experiences I have had as a student. The professors were extremely helpful in guiding me to obtain an education . The facility is improving and they have an excellent student center. The student body is very a diverse population. The administration staff are as friendly. as you are to them. In other words if you act a fool than expect to be treated as one. 😊
Response: We’re happy to hear about your experience. Thanks for leaving a great review!

C. M.: Took Spanish classes here for one year. I regret slacking on my Spanish.

Danielle Carroll: Yes the admissions needs some work (never fixed it) but the education, the teachers and the school itself is fine. It's so affordable and you can always learn something new. I got a paid internship through UDC and even though with it's slight hiccups, this school is still great. I'm at the main campus now working on my Bachelors and I'm 16 classes shy of finishing. Don't pay the haters any mind.

Mani Shehni Karam Zadeh: I agree that administrative work is little slow but when it comes to education and professors, I would say they are really great, knowledgeable, kind and caring. They always try to help you to learn and never let you down. They always support brilliant students in the class and on the other hand they never abandon weak students too. Some people complain that school building architecture is ugly but just keep in mind the UDC construction completion dated back to 1851. So, I don't let this to impair my judgement about very good professors and education in here.

Scott Minter: As a graduate student that completed a Master's in Education recently at UDC, I can speak for how the last 3 years or so have been. UDC is extremely unprofessional and unorganized. The customer service is appalling and it is very difficult to do simple tasks such as pay bills, register for classes, or track down employees. The staff is difficult to reach and rarely call you back or email after a request. I advise finding a different university if you are looking to continue in higher education. Granted, there are some very excellent professors, but it might not be worth your trouble to attend here.

NIKKI HARRIS: It is a shame that after paying the application fee and being sent an acceptance letter I find out there is a hold on my account. After looking into that, I was told I have an unpaid balance from 2005. I was also informed I had made payments which total about 75% of what was owed initially. I was told to see if I qualify for amnesty to cover what's stilled owed. I did and was told no. The reason being is I don't have a GPA of 2.0 at the time of owing. I don't have a GPA because I had withdrew from classes before I had received any credits for the classes I took back in 2004. I am very disappointed and feel let down. After all, I thought I would be starting classes this summer. UDC does not care about DC citizens trying to get an education. My situation is very unfair!
