Urban Boxing: what do users think?

Megan Eitel: This is the best boxing gym I’ve been to in DC. Coaches take every opportunity to improve individual form and technique while giving the entire class an excellent workout. Every coach provides an intense and unique workout. I especially love the attention to form and technique that are provided in both Josh and Jeremy’s classes. This gym, and all of its coaches have improved my boxing form, technique, strength and stamina.
Response: Hi Megan. Awesome! Super happy to hear that! We appreciate the kind words

Jeff Wong: Urban boxing is legit. Josh, Crane, and Arturo were all extremely friendly and highly skilled. They've designed classes to include a great combination between intense workouts while also teaching technique/skill. If you're wondering if you should go to Urban Boxing in Foggy Bottom, at least pop in and talk to staff. You won't be disappointed!

Andrew Monaghan: What a great gym! Crane gave me a warm welcome and all the coaches I worked with - Josh, Charles, Arturo and Jordan really knew their stuff (Arturo has the best taste in music though!). I came for the boxing - which was really good, and then started on kickboxing too... Thank you! I learnt a lot and can't recommend it highly enough... I hope to be back one day soon!

Vanessa Salazar: 100% recommend Urban Boxing to anyone looking for a high-quality boxing gym! All of the coaches are knowledgeable and friendly. All levels are welcome! Kickboxing with Ify on Wednesday’s are awesome!
Response: Thanks Vanessa! You rock :)

Brittany Bennett: I love this gym. I joined with zero boxing experience and have always found the coaches to be encouraging, enthusiastic, and very knowledgable about the sport. The classes are tough workouts, but I'm definitely in better shape now than I was when I started. The coaches do a great job getting around to everyone to offer more personalized instruction and pay a lot of attention to technique. As a woman, it's a bit nerve-racking to jump into a male-dominated sport, but I've always felt super comfortable and uplifted by coaches, staff, and other students at Urban Boxing. The classes are a good mix of genders, too. If it's your first time taking a boxing class, make sure you sign up for one of the introductory levels. It's a fun, supportive gym and a great workout! Definitely recommend.
Response: Thanks Brittany!

Anne Richardson: When my 14 yo son said to me “mom, I want to try boxing” I thought: “great! But how on earth do I get into the boxing world not knowing anything , and, it’s it going to be an ok place for a kid?” UB was incredible, they walked him through the into process, treated him like a kid with kindness but also as a serious athlete. They are patient, kind, and approachable. Christian and Josh in particular, are spectacular trainers and really great people. Crane is at the desk and is informed, kind, and a super friendly presence to greet you. My son is certainly challenged, and leaves the place feeling so great about himself every time:like going to church! We love UB and will continue to train there as long as we can!

Kara Holbrook: Best boxing gym in DC! Not only is it the hardest workout, but it's in a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. I felt so welcomed by Crane, Arturo & the entire rest of the team when I first joined in January. They have such variety in their classes/class times that it's easily accessible for everyone. Crane is the BEST and is so accommodating to everyone at the gym!! thank you Urban Boxing!
Response: Hello kara! Thanks a million for your kind-hearted review! Crane and Arturo Truly are some of the most kind hearted people i have came upon! Here at urban boxing we do not gatekeeper boxing! Everybody is welcome!

Nicolette DeLorenzo: I love urban boxing! The coaches are professionals, and yet make boxing feel accessible. I started kickboxing, then transitioned to taking all classes. You get the opportunity to train, spar, develop athletically and strategically. Would recommend urban boxing to anyone looking for not only a new workout routine, but a chance to feel empowered and strong inside and out!
Response: Thanks Nicolette, we love you back!

JLG: I have spent the past 4 months going to URBAN boxing in DC to train both one on one and through their group classes. My body has transformed. I went from 180lbs to 165lbs, feel stronger than ever, all while having fun. Wether you want more stamina, get in shape, loose weight, etc etc, URBAN boxing is an excellent choice with excellent coaches. If you are on the fence, trust me and just come in for one class. I cannot more recommend Krane and his team of coaches. Joshua, Jordan and Randal are my three favorite coaches for different reasons. and depending on the type of workout you want what's awesome is that they each have their own style. Joshua is technical the most sound, he is a traditional boxer and focuses on getting it done right while building up your core. there are no two same workouts with joshua. I also recommend his 1:1. Jordan gets you sweating in no time with a brutally good mix of HIIT and boxing. Randal on the weekends reaches you different styles of boxing, with different stands and brings a fun atmosphere where everyone participates or else push ups for everyone. LOVE IT! Krane the manager is himself a gym nut and will help you with anything you need. The gym is super clean, people all have masks and I feel super safe going. Will you be sore after workouts? YES, but its functionally sore. I actually look forward to being sore, I know its crazy but true. Look no further if you want a diverse group of folks working out from all ages, background and styles. So many classes are available, boxing, kickboxing, abs, etc etc. Come check it out. Highly recommended!!! Don't worry if you know how to box or not, no matter your level, you will get a workout in and progress no matter your goals.
Response: You rock! Thanks so much for the review!

Gabriel Söderberg: Super professional, honest, and with awesome atmosphere. No binding multi-month or yearly contracts for training- just as it should be. Also, awesome trainers and staff - totally recommend training here.
Response: Thanks so much Gabriel!

NUBOXX: what do users think?

Callie Riley: I've been in DC for many years and tried many of the "bigger" gyms--Nuboxx has been far and away my favorite. I've been injured (not boxing related!) for the past few months and was anxiously awaiting being cleared to return to the studio because my first several months here made me feel the strongest I had in years. The studio is beautiful; the coaches are kind but will push you hard while focusing on technique to avoid injury; the community of people is fantastic; and, as a bonus, it's woman-owned.

Jason Mann: I have been taking Harold's classes at U St consistently twice a week during my 90 day training program. Harold always goes above and beyond to make his classes intense, fun and safe. Every workout he brings new and creative elements which push our fitness and boxing skills. He is always accommodating to the skill level of each individual participant which makes everyone feel welcomed, yet challenged. He is consistently giving positive feedback and constructive criticism. Harold takes health and safety seriously by keeping us socially distant when we can be, and cleaning equipment during and after the workout. Every time I leave Harold's classes I feel like a better version of myself, both physically and mentally. Harold Hart is a 10/10 coach!!!

Katherine Cotsonas: NUBOXX personal training totally saved me during COVID. Not only was it safe according to all protocols, the facility is beautiful and new, and the coaching staff is top notch. The workouts are amazingly, effective too—I started at twice a week and upped my training to three times a week. Eric’s knowledge and expertise is unmatched, and his ability to motivate and push you is not like anything I’ve ever experienced—and I’ve tried basically every workout when it comes to boutique fitness. Seriously—sign up—you won’t regret it.

dekexz19: Really great establishment. Has a variety of equipment and can get you into shape at any fitness level. Moe is an especially helpful and understanding trainer who helped me get the most out of my workout🔥

R.P.: I didn’t think I was the personal training type. I loved group fitness classes and always thought I'd never do anything else. But with the arrival of the pandemic - not only were my go to classes shutdown, but my fitness routine - which I relied on to keep my mental health in check - was in peril. So I made the leap and started personal training with Que at NUBOXX. And let me tell you it saved me. I’ve been working with Que for 6+ months. I feel challenged at every session. He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient and motivating. I love that he is so personable and very relatable - it makes the workouts and experience that much more fun. With a program designed specifically for me, I have never felt or looked stronger. My only regret is I didn’t start this years ago. Can’t recommend it enough!

Michael Kearney: NUBOXX has been a life saver. I started back in November as a way to get myself out of the covid funk. Working with Eric over the past 8 months has given me the strength, mental clarity and focus that friends and family can see. Highly recommended for anyone at any fitness level. Boxing and strength training is, in my opinion, the best form of workout.

Celina Ticoll-Ramirez: I've been working Donte since October and have never felt stronger. Training at NUBOXX has been challenging, but also so fun because of the supportive community. I used to be so scared of lifting, but working out at NUBOXX and with Donte has shown me there's nothing to be afraid of and gotten me to a point that I feel confident doing It. Plus, I've found a new love for boxing. I've been pushed out of my comfort zone in the best ways.

Logan Dobson: A wonderful boxing gym for fighters of ever level -- brand new up to talented local amateurs. The coaching staff is friendly and accessible, the facilities are clean and well-maintained. I myself started coming after I'd been boxing for a few years, but I've seen plenty of people show up with no experience at all and get schooled correctly. Personal training is available and will wear you out in a smart, thoughtful way. Fully recommend.

Elizabeth Engel: I've been a Nuboxx member and fan for two years now. Although I haven't felt comfortable going into the gym since the shutdown started in March 2020, I've been training outdoors with Donte once a week religiously. Knowing that I have that weekly appointment coming has helped keep me focused on the days in between. Thanks to Donte's dedication, persistence, care, knowledge, and skill, I think I'm actually going to be a better boxer when this is all over than I was before, even though I haven't been in the gym for 11+ months (although I can't wait to get back!).

Andrea Holtermann: The personal training services here are amazing! I've been going to Eric for 6 months and the results are great. The training is super personalized to your needs and they do a great job of tracking your performance.

Downtown Boxing Club: what do users think?

Nikki Smith: Without a doubt the most rewarding and enjoyable workout experience I've ever had. Been a member (no contract; pay-as-you-go) for 4+ years now. I lost 30 pounds and have kept it off. Went from running an 11-minute mile pace to a best of 7:28 per mile largely because of the endurance and breathing techniques I've developed through boxing. I had never boxed before I joined this gym, but I was a competitive athlete until college. I joined because I wanted to get fit again after too many years of sedentary lifestyle, and now I'm in the best shape of my life. I feel happier and more confident. I love the sense of community this gym offers. A lot of the same folks, young professionals, men and women, have been coming here for years. New folks are always welcome. We help each other. Group workouts mean we suffer together. :-) Having a trainer creates a sense of accountability, too. I find it motivates me more than a regular gym. Our trainer knows what he's talking about, and he invests in every member, no matter the experience level or gender, any of that. As a testament to the quality of his training, we have three guys who have won belts and accolades like "All American." (Sparring is optional, though, and most people don't spar.) He runs this gym by himself, too, a small business owner. Offering trials or customized sessions would take his attention away from members, which wouldn't be fair. ** Readers may also notice from reviews that DBC has a loyal following of athletes who love this gym and our trainer. Negative reviews tend to come from salty people who have not spent real time at the gym and, quite frankly, have no idea what they are missing in terms of community and fitness. More bag time for the rest of us!

Edson Florez: This ain’t a gym this is a movement. Through the pandemic this club got better. The people that have joined this community at Downtown Boxing Club are stronger for it. Thank you for showing me what passion fitness really looks and feels like. 🙏🏽

Karen Livingston: DBC is like no other boxing gym in DC. I’ve trained here for years for a lot of reasons. To start, I saw immediate and lasting results in my overall conditioning. I value and respect the trainers’ methods and guidance. I appreciate how the classes are structured. I’m able to focus on improving my technique while figuring things out at my own pace. It’s a welcoming and supportive environment for new or experienced boxers, regardless of whether you’re there for a serious workout or sparring in the ring.

Vina Basas: Hands down the best boxing gym/club in the city. This is the only gym in the city I've tried that gives the kind of attention to correct form and technique that really sets you up for success (and avoid injuries!). Aaron is the best coach I've work with, he will push you to your limit to get you to the next level. I also love how the student boxers and coaches have a pretty solid "family feel" to it - very much like old school boxing gyms do. I can't wait to get back in the ring!!!

Family Lutz: I've been boxing with DBC for 5 years now. When I came in, I knew nothing. Dave instilled a love of the sport in me. The community welcomed me and helped me grow. Over the past year, Aaron has taken my skills to the next level. He is down to earth, friendly, and a wonderful teacher. What started as a sometime hobby has turned into a big part of my life of which I am very proud.

Anthony Istrico: Hands down the greatest workout you can get. Dave doesn’t manage a gym, he manages a community, a family. He is a wealth of knowledge and if you’re willing to learn, this is the place. You’ll get the best workout of your life, you’ll make solid connections and you’ll learn how to box. You won’t have to punch it out to the beat, listen to loud music or deal with anybody who’s looking to become the next boxing influencer. This is a real boxing gym, run by a real boxer.

Ben Hukill: I've worked with Aaron for six months now. His workouts are structured to focus on technical boxing and cardio, and he trained me for my first amateur bout. Great workout each time. He's very responsive and it's easy to communicate with him. Highly recommend

Dan Murphy: Absolutely love working with Dave and Aaron at Downtown. Hooked up with them last summer when I moved to DC. I’d been boxing for a decade or so and was having trouble finding a gym I like here, but have now learned a ton from both of these guys and have a ton of fun sparring with Aaron and other DBC folks. It’s a great group of people that love boxing.

Isaac Bloom: I love DBC. I've gotten to learn the basics of boxing in a personalized and super friendly way, and I the workout is varied and awesome. My punches are better, I'm getting faster, I can go longer, and the whole thing is fun as hell. I've literally recommended it to all of my friends.

Miguel Perez: This is the perfect place for beginners and laying the ground work for boxing. Dave is really knowledgeable, it might feel like you start off slow but he really lays a foundation for what you need to excel. I have since moved on to another gym and have competed but I owe the foundation of my work at DBC.

Rumble Boxing - DC: what do users think?

Nono Khiengsombath: I love Rumble. It’s such an amazing workout class and great addition to any work out regime you may have. My favorite instructor is Mona because she’s so interactive with her class. She checks in and corrects your form which I feel is so important for people who are new or for who continue to do HIT classes like this. The staff is incredibly excellent as well. Amazing energy every time ! And all the instructors are great that I have had. ❤️

Natalie: If I could give Rumble 10 stars I would. I started coming here 6 months after major ankle surgery and I was very nervous about keeping up. 6 weeks later and I see how much stronger I've gotten. I leave every class feeling tired but happy. Rumble is such a fantastic full-body workout and it's FUN. My favorite instructor is Arnie because he will 100% hold you accountable for your workout but he is also supportive and really cares about everyone in his class. I have had to modify exercises a few times but I still feel like I work myself to the max. The only small negative with Rumble is the lack of afternoon classes on the weekends. I am not a morning person and would love to see classes go to 2-3pm, rather than ending around 1pm.

Joshua Beer City Bandit DeJong: I had a great time at Rumble! I was just looking for a random boxing gym to maybe just hit a bag of get some sparring in stumbled into this place. The staff was super friendly right off the bat and even hooked me up with a free pair of wraps for my first class just for signing up. As for the class itself, I can't feel my arms. I kept thinking it was going to be over, and they kept adding stuff. So first there's a warm-up and then a few rounds of hitting the water bag. Then you go over to the other side where you do some weights, and I thought that would be the end, so I went a little harder on the waist than I should have, and when the rounds ended, I heard the instructor say "All right everybody back to the other side!" And I was like... "Other side? Oh my god. I'm supposed to throw more punches after this?!" But I dug deep and rallied even though I was worried I might puke at one point, but I was really feeding off the music and the group environment to push through. Would definitely recommend for a great workout. Oh, and the facilities are great! Free towels, body wash, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, shaving cream, oh my! And all of it was better than the stuff at my house. 😅 Definitely will be returning sometime soon. 🥊🥊

Lindsey Casella: Ambience of studio is well worth the price of the class. Bring your own gloves, wrap, and water and all extra amenities are free of charge! Shower is inclusive of drybar products and lockers offer free charging. The physical classes have a great atmosphere and are uplifting. Instructors are well-versed and support you well-beyond any other studio, throughout the class. Very happy they opened this location in DC. :)
Response: Lindsey! Happy to have you a part of the RUMBLE fam. Can't wait to have you back in soon! Erika Hammond, Founding Trainer

Lauren Schmitz: I went to my first class this week and will definitely go back! The people checking me in obviously like working there and are energetic to get you started. I took Arnie’s class and it kicked my butt, in a great way. He modeled all of the moves and kept the workout upbeat and challenging. He played great music and reminded me to push it until the end! I would recommend Arnie’s class to everyone!
Response: Lauren! Happy to have you a part of the RUMBLE fam. Arnie loves having you throw down for 10 rounds with him. See you back in soon! Erika Hammond, Founding Trainer

Amee Bhavsar: Badass is how I feel every time I leave Rumble, especially with Arnie and Mona’s classes. The workout is always unique and tailored to the instructors expertise and background. They are extremely well versed about form and I especially want to give props to Arnie’s combos! I’ve been boxing for ten years and been to a variety of studios. Also the facilities and staff are stellar! Go get yo’ rumble on!
Response: Amee! You ARE a BAD@$$. Mona and Arnie love having you crush it in their classes! Sara, Team Rumble

Alycia Deihs: I have been taking classes with Arnie since the day the studio opened its doors and I am hooked. He is one of the best instructors I have encountered in the DC area. He is different. He always brings the fire with his playlists and energy and the workouts never disappoint. Rumble provides all of the amenities you will need(showers, towels, dry bar products, etc) to freshen up and get on with your day or night. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first class or your 50th - you’re sure to get in a great work out and most importantly you’ll enjoy yourself while you’re doing it.
Response: Alycia! Arnie loves having you throw down with him. See you back on the bags soon! Erika Hammond, Founding Trainer

Cortney Vaughan: I took Arnie's class and it was my first time in boxing gloves in front of a punching bag ever. However, I caught on extremely quickly and Arnie's guidance and energy made the class fun and empowering. It is the perfect workout for someone looking to get strong and feel great while doing it. Arnie's music definitely helped too!! Highly recommend!!
Response: Cortney! First of all, welcome to the Rumble fam! Arnie loved having you in class. We'll see you back in the studio soon! Sara, Team Rumble

Katherine Gwyn: Rumble is my favorite boxing studio in DC! Arnie's classes are the best- he's great at giving a challenging workout while making it fun at the same time. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good workout!
Response: Katherine! We love having you a part of the RUMBLE fam. Erika Hammond, Founding Trainer

Rachel Foster: I was excited to try Rumble because I've seen it all over social media and I've been wanting to get into boxing! PROS: Registering for a class was easy and the front desk staff was super nice and helpful. The wraps were only $5 bucks and I got to keep them which was great! The class was high-energy, dark with bright red lights, and great music. Lots of motivation! CONS: The price. HOLY COW this place is expensive. For me, the class is way too similar to Orangetheory and I was looking for a more authentic boxing class (which I've now found with TITLE Boxing.) If you are new to boxing like me, the class might prove to be too fast paced for your first few classes. The instructors go very quickly and on top of it being loud, it is dark and if you're in the back it's hard to see what they are doing to accompany what they're saying (which you may not be able to hear in the first place!) Overall, a decent experience. I will probably go back here and there when I find myself wanting to switch up my Orangetheory/TITLE routine. It's a nice combination of the two.
Response: Hi Rachel! Thanks for checking out Rumble! Happy to hear that you felt motivated during class & that the front desk was helpful! We have a few different class packages like the First Time series (buy one, get one on us!) and the Starter-3-pack ($25/class), which brings each class price down. Hope this helps! Sara, Team Rumble

Nuboxx: what do users think?

Brian Doty: Both the H St and U St locations are top notch! Started going to Nuboxx from ClassPass and instantly got hooked and signed up for my own membership. It’s so much more than a boxing gym, it really this awesome community where the owners and coaches get to know you and are there to help you meet your goals.

Kristina Skinner: Nuboxx is my happy place! I recently moved to DC and was seeking a place to get back into boxing and back into shape. I started training with Eric and got hooked instantly. He keeps the workouts challenging, but also manages to make me laugh while he's also making my fat cry. He has been a true partner in working with me on transforming my body - from sharing nutrition guidance to switching up our workouts to achieve specific goals. He also doesn't compromise on form - whether it be my boxing footwork or deadlift posture, he is always pushing me to do better. Highly recommend Nuboxx private training to anyone looking for a fitness plan that is fun, challenging, and effective.

Francesca Caal Skonos: I would give Nuboxx 10 stars if Google let me! Incredible family like atmosphere! Q and Moe are amazing coaches and Rachel, the owner, is AMAZING! I have been going to the H Street location weekly for 8 months and I am hooked! 10/10 would recommend!

Nate Wong: Pape, Donte, Will and team are all stars. The coaching is tailored for skill level and each coach ensures that the fundamentals are strong. I especially like having different coaches rotate since act has their own style. Donte helps me with my technique and fast punch combinations, while Pape works cardio and speed with punches. Will ties in footwork and blocks to punching combinations, so throughout a given week I feel like I’m getting a full boxing work out. There’s also a good energy and camaraderie that’s welcoming to everyone no matter if you’ve been boxing for years or it’s your first day. I’ve been coming for the past 3 years coming in with 0 experience. Kudos!

Jamie Morgan: Disappointing from boxing gym perspective. Conditioning was decent. Very little technical training or adjustments were provided, and what was given was poor. If you have any martial arts training, or are looking to learn to fight and defend yourself, I recommend another gym. Not a bad place if you’re more interested in the physical workout.
Response: Hi Jamie, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed. We recommend starting with our Technical Boxing class, which is structured to focus on technique and skill. The 30/30 class you took is designed to push and challenge you once boxing technique has been developed. We’d love to have you back in for a Technical Boxing class. Please email us at info@nuboxxfitness.com with any other questions or concerns. Thanks again for sharing this experience! – Team NUBOXX

K. Patie: I've been at Nuboxx for nearly a year now, and can't say enough good things about it! Eric is AMAZING and simply a lifesaver. After a bad knee injury, I was frustrated with lack of progress and pain relief from physical therapy. I reached out to Eric, who has patiently worked with me to rebuild strength--and to get past my own fear--to where I'm now able to box, lift, and keep up with high intensity workouts without pain, even without a brace, for the first time in YEARS! Having surpassed my initial goals, he continues to push me to get better, whether in form, strength or technique. More recently I've started the group classes, and the coaches keep it tough, fun, and fresh every time. Highly recommend!

Christopher Bailey: Best workout experience I've ever had that keeps me engaged and excited to go to the gym. The staff is very intelligent, patient, and encouraging. They work well with all experience levels and really push you to improve your skills and technique. The community of members are nice, supportive, and just as excited to be there. I travel all over the U.S. for work and tend to go to LA Fitness, Orange Theory, and other gyms on the road, but nothing compares to Nuboxx. I highly recommended it.

Jim McNamara: I’ve been going to this gym for the past 3 months and it is easily the most fun I’ve had exercising. I had no previous boxing experience and tried it out of curiosity. It has become my favorite hobby, as well as a consistently great workout. The coaches are both patient and motivating. The facilities are very nice. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Shannon Mehaffey: Bachelorette party at nuboxx! We had a bachelorette event at NUBOXX and the bride and bachelorette attendees could not have loved it more. Prior to the boxing class, Rachel and management were very easy to communicate with and happily answered all of my questions regarding booking, cost, other details. The cost was very affordable and more reasonable than other fitness studios in the area I had called for a private class. On the day of, the team at NUBOXX had set up a great table of NUBOXX gear for all of the ladies as well as a gift for the bride. The bride felt so special! The class itself KICKED OUR BUTTS. It was fun, lighthearted, and a great workout. Lauren was our instructor and we Would 10/10 recommend her for your class! She was awesome! Rachel and the team took pictures throughout our class for us and we are so grateful to have the afternoon’s memories documented. NUBOXX partnered with South Block juice co to offer us delish juices at the end of class and we ended up staying for an hour after the class in the lobby just enjoying the juice and good company. It made for a relaxed atmosphere and time to celebrate the bride-to-be! Thanks so much, NUBOXX! We all hope to come back soon.

Monica Puerto: This is my second boxing gym and it has been a great experience. The teachers are friendly and will go at your pace but also challenge you. The studio is really clean, elegant, and has lockers. The receptionist is always so kind and helpful and taught me how to properly wrap my hands.

BOOMBOX Boxing Club: what do users think?

asia atkins: Joining BOOMBOX has been so great for both my mental and physical health! The studio is clean, inviting, and has a well-lit, open concept with lots of natural light. Not to mention the location, which is right across the street from the Nationals stadium! The classes are super fun and engaging, and make 50 minutes feel like five! It's truly a great workout for all ages and fitness levels. All of the coaches and staff are hospitable, and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and have any questions answered. 100/10!! I highly recommend for anyone looking for an affordable, high quality workout within a fun community!
Response: Thank you Asia for being a part of this community! We hope to continue to support you in your journey!

Jasmine: I started going to Boombox consistently after doing their sustainability challenge in January 2022. First heard about them in 2020 but officially got a membership in January. I really enjoy this studio and love the instructors. The music is really high pace and keeps me upbeat. Amazing workout that engages all parts of your body. Also, the participants who attend the class are super friendly and I love how welcoming the staff are. They show much appreciation to to us fighters. Boombox is a vibe! 💪🏾
Response: Jasmine you are part of the reason why we do this. Thank you for sharing your energy with us every week!

Esse Darden: Studio with scheduled classes, personal sessions in their ring. Gloves provided, and merchandise available...thanks to Bridgette for all the info.
Response: Hi Esse! Thank you so much for fighting with us and sharing your feedback!

Samantha Hinkls: This business has absolutely no issues with destroying personal property. They put a massive sticker on my car obstructing my view to drive to advertise their business, and it has been impossible to get off. I am all for businesses advertising their services and don't mind if I find a paper advertisement under my windshield wiper, but costing someone money to get a massive sticker removed from their vehicle crosses the line. All of my neighbors on my block had this happen to them as well. This business needs to be get in trouble for their appalling behavior!
Response: Hi Samantha, thank you for your comment but I'm afraid you're referring to another business. BOOMBOX does not use paper advertisements, nor have we ever used or placed stickers on vehicles. I think there may be some confusion between our business here in the Navy Yard and another. However, I am sorry about your experience. If you would like to connect with us to help determine who placed a sticker on your car, we will be happy to help. Please contact our studio.

Roderick Torrrence: I Was interested In the studio and the Assistant Manager Saron Amare was very friendly and took her time explaining the facility and program to me.
Response: We love that you came by to visit us Roderick! We look forward to having you back! We will certainly share your feedback with Saron.

MD B: You really get a great workout and encouragement throughout. They do provide boxing gloves to borrow for the class and handwraps. I highly suggest Cobra or Reggie.
Response: Thank you! We agree, they are great coaches!

Dreux D: I love Boombox! Incredible trainers and fun workouts! Would definitely recommend going to get in shape or to just have a good sweat session!
Response: Thank you Dreux!

Richard Maurice: The first thought that comes to mind when I think of Boombox is "community". Followed by "family" then "gym". I had heard about Boombox for months before I finally attended a class. My friend is a regular & dragged me to class during their "Friendsgiving" promotion in November. To say I was nervous was an understatement. I'm one of those guys who wants to get in shape but doesn't really feel like putting in the work to do it. After some prodding I reluctantly agreed to come to AJ's Saturday 10:15a class. The first thing that impressed me was the location. Right in the heart of Navy Yard its Metro accessible & literally right off the highway so getting there wouldn't be a problem. I walked in & was greeted by a large smile & a friendly greeting by the front desk staff. They saw I was a first timer and helped me get situated. I got my wraps and gloves & was ready to go... except I didn't know how to wrap my hands! Sensing this one of the staff members came over and showed me how to do it. As we waited for class to start I made conversation with a few "regulars" who welcomed me & told me I was in for a good workout. Still nervous I took their word for it & began observing the energy in the waiting area. Everyone was excited! Like really excited. Again I'm not a gym guy but in my occasional visits to Gold's I never see people smiling about the upcoming punishment they are about to endure! As I'm getting in my zone I hear a loud BOOMING voice over the loudspeaker. "10:15 I hope you're READY cause we are going to get it today!" On cue the doors to the gym opened & immediately I'm impressed by the layout & aesthetics. Numbered wrecking ball heavy bags were dangling from the ceilings, the lights were dim & there were mirrors for walls. The music was (for lack of a better word) BOOMING (this class was southern hip hop) & upon entry we were greeted by Coach AJ. In all transparency AJ & I are friends so when she saw me she says "Oooh you finally decided to come join me!!!" But what really stuck out to me was that she had that same energy & love for everyone who walked into the gym. I walk in & see that my bag is right in the front. I look to see if there is space in the back so if I happen to pass out I won't disturb the flow of the class, but to my chagrin there wasn't. The first few minutes of the class AJ demonstrates the punches and defensive maneuvers we would be using during class 1. Jab 2. Cross 3. Front Hook 4. Back Hook 5. Front Uppercut 6. Rear Uppercut 7.Slip 8. Roll Easy enough I suppose. With the basics down it was time to work. And boy did we work. Boombox is structured like an actual boxing match so each circuit is 3 minutes long. The first circuit was the warmup. And let me tell you... I was almost ready to throw in the towel. Jumping jacks, high knees to butt kicks back to high knees and some other movements that made me say "huh". But my heart was racing and the sweat was coming down. "Alright grab some water and get those gloves on" I slowly walk to where my gloves and more importantly where my water was. Take a sip and try to catch my breath. "Fighters you have 20 seconds!" WAIT! Just like boxing a 3 minute round & 1 minute rest. So I scramble to put on my gloves and get back in front of my bag. Now its time to actually box! AJ demonstrates the first combination. "Jab/back hook/roll/front hook" With Three Six mafia blaring in the background I get in my boxing stance. "Tear the club up" - 'Jab' "Tear the club up"- 'Back hook' "Tear the club up" - 'Front Hook' As if on cue AJ comes jumping over on beat & shows me the proper way to do the combo. The rest of the class was a blur but afterwards I knew one thing. I was hooked! I was tired but that good tired after you know you put in work. Now unless I'm traveling you'll see me with my Boombox family on Saturday mornings. And even though I may have become one of the 'regulars' the guys at the front desk still don't get mad b/c I haven't figured out how to wrap my hands yet :-)

ChiChi: Yall this place is AMAZING! From the front desk staff and coaches. The best money i spend every month, is on their membership class. My favorite classes are Coach Angela, David and Reggie (no particular order lol). Im here at least 3-4 times a week. So far ive gotten 3 of my friends to come because they see how fun and great it is. They love it too! 😂 You will always get a full body workout (warm up/stretch, boxing, strength/core, and a cool down/mini yoga stretch). Boombox is THE place to be. PERIODT OK!
Response: Thank you so much for your feedback and rating. The feedback is always appreciated. We hope to see you again real soon.

Ashton Rohmer: What an awesome gym. It's a bit different than more "traditional" gyms, but the vibe is fun and you get an incredible workout. If you've never boxed before, I recommend David or Lauren's classes - I found them a bit easier to follow. Thankful to have this asset in my community!
Response: Thanks Ashton for sharing your feedback on your visit to BOOMBOX! We certainly are excited about being a part of this community and look forward to your next visit!

Michael Scott: Coach Coop and team, Teach more than boxing. They, implore life skills as well. My son Marcus, has been with the program for 2 years. In that time frame, I've seen a undisciplined child to include boxing, growing into a mature young adult. Coach Coop and team have become an extension of the family, and a surrogate father to Marcus. I'm also, very impressed with Marcus boxing skills! I've learned to stay out of the way. I'm witnessing Marcus dedication with the program and Coaches. He truly wants to win the Championship for him and especially the program he represents! In closing, I would highly, recommend this program! There creating stars in the dark!!! I made those comments two years ago, I guess I forgot to post them. 😅 Update, when the world shut down in 2020, Marcus was battling through a shoulder injury and worked vigorously to finally Competing in 2021. With, Coach Coop's, spiritual mentoring and strict training regiment, and Marcus dedication to the process was put on display in the Golden Gloves Tournament. Bethesda Boxing & Kickboxing Academy: what do users think?

AIIKOS MOM: I was hired here on a Monday and asked to come in the next day to see if I am able to sell memberships, the job listing I was hired for. After hiring me that Tuesday, saying I was "perfect for the job" he proceeded to ask me to come in that Wednesday- Saturday in the mornings, keep in mind I was hired for evening shifts. The owner, Ken, can come on too strong and the amount of work that was outlined to me kept including things I did not agree to. The following week he asked me to come in at 9 am that day, it was 8 am when he asked. I was not hired for mornings but tried to be accommodating. This is not a business you want to work for especially if you require a structure for your workplace and believe the workplace should be a place of professionalism. When I was hired he said I was pretty, but he's hired pretty in the past and it didn't workout. He also liked to compliment me on my physical appearance more than I would expect from a work environment. He's now refusing to pay me for my training because he says I am no longer entitled to that pay because I declined the position. He messaged me a different schedule everyday, and because he does 1099 he likes to pay when he wants and what he wants. Of course I will have to get my pay through a civil suit, but it shouldn't be like this. There's a reason he can't keep employees and why his sales team is non-existent. We'll see each other soon Ken!
Response: Unfortunately when people don't show up when they say they will, it doesn't make for a good employment situation. BBKA only hires honest reliable people.

Anna Breiteneder: I love BBKA! Ken is really nice and always has a smile on the face and makes jokes. You feel like a part of their boxing family from the moment you step in the room. Julie is the absolute best! She is really encouraging and always in a good mood. I only started kickboxing a short while ago but I feel as if I‘ve already made a good progress. They always take their time to talk to everyone individually and show interest in you as a person! Every lesson is different and so much fun!! Would recommend 11/10!

Hannah: I have been coming here for about nine months, and every time I come in, I have a great time. Everyone is incredibly supportive and more than willing to provide assistance. There are many options regarding class rigor, which is perfect for those who are beginners or pros. When I was beginning, the instructor was so helpful, and I was paired with someone who helped me go through the motions. I haven’t had a single negative experience here, and I highly recommend coming here!

Wolf Mina: I love BBKA! I’ve been a long time member and still enjoy it. The team always welcomes you with smiles and happiness. At one point I was exercising while pregnant and Julie was excellent. She always made sure I would not hurt myself. Now I have my baby and they are SUPER ACCOMMODATING! I can workout and bring my little one with me, and everybody is nice to her. Now it’s like a family for her too because she sees them on a regular basis. This Club is great!

Moises G.: Man am I glad I’ve come to this place. Chris and Rafael are friendly and helpful. This is a great place for those who want to get active and learn how to box/kickbox. Been coming here for about a month and a half now and am glad I found out about this gym.

Martin Lacourt: Hope Ken and Julie still are the trainers. We had wonderful (and exhausting) time there. Hope you survived the pandemic. Alina, Martin & Anne

Katherine Guezu: Excellent place!! Both of my kids take classes and they enjoy them so much!!Ken is the best instructor for kids with Asperger !!

Le Bustiere Boutique: Excellent gym for kickboxing and boxing classes. All the trainers are motivational and will help you get that form and extra rep in. Highly recommend them for a boxing class or functional strength training class. We have been coming here for a while and love it! Great for getting those fitness new years resolutions complete.

Kim Bohince: Bethesda Boxing is hands-down the best boxing studio for beginners, intermediate and advanced individuals who want to feel mentally and physically powerful. I attend classes three times a week, and always immediately look forward to the next. Ken, the owner, is fantastic and makes a point to know your name and you genuinely feel like part of the Bethesda Boxing family. Base is my favorite trainer, who always pushes you to your max, varies the workouts, is beyond helpful, and wants you to be your best self. You will thank yourself for signing up, I promise you!
Response: Thank you so much Kim for taking the time to write a review. We are happy you like our offerings.

Caitlynn Barcheski: Truly one of the best gyms I have ever been to. I belonged previously to another boxing gym in the area where I felt the criticism was inconsistent based on the instructor and decided to switch. At BBKA they provide you with many class variations, while providing fun, personable, reliable instructors. All instructors focus on your fitness, technique, while making you enjoy the sweat! Unfortunately, need to move out of the area and I'm sad to leave, but whatever gym I join next has big gloves to fill!

More Than Human LLC: what do users think?

Semir Abdul: Coach Anthony Rowland has a vision for his clients that shows through his tenacity and extraordinary effort. When I am taking his class I feel like I am fighting my demons and going above my limits. I can’t help but feel like I’ve grown 1% better by the end of his class. The pool of sweat I leave behind leaves me stronger and more confident! Coach Anthony will nudge you to go beyond your comfort zone and you will want to after you see what you are capable of. These are qualities in a trainer that will keep you accountable and help you transform into whoever or whatever you want to be. All while being able to defend yourself. Very humble soul and you can really feel the “human” in “more than human fit”. Thanks Coach!

Aramis Penland: Coach Anthony is amazing. He pushes you, motivates you, and the end result is one of the most intense, sweat filled workouts imaginable. I particularly like his kickboxing cardio classes, in which I not only learn new martial arts techniques but burn off all that dessert I probably shouldn't eat every day. The best workout class I have done in a long time. Highly recommend!

Lance Jackson: I am a long-time student of martial arts that has been training with Coach Anthony for 4 months or more. As a martial arts instructor, Anthony goes the extra mile to invest in his students progress and fitness. A month into my training, Anthony helped me organize a meal and exercise plan, in addition to my martial arts training. Since then, I have lost more than 35 pounds. I am also kicking harder, improving my footwork and ring mobility, as well as my ground game. Anthony does not tolerate complacency; he pushes his students to challenge themselves and grow within the arts.

Andrea Pippins: Anthony is an excellent trainer. He offers the perfect combination of inspiration, instruction, and fun. He will push you to do more than you thought was possible. He is able to work with people at any level of fitness from couch potato to fitness nut. You can tell this truly is his calling and passion. I would strongly recommend him to anyone trying to further strengthen their physical body and psyche. 5 stars.

Vicki Reyes Hernández: For the past 2 months, I've been conditioning and training for a 10k under Anthony's guidance. I've always been an exercise enthusiast but struggled to get the results I wanted. Anthony has helped give me structure to my workouts. He makes sure that I'm aware that every movement and exercise I do have a purpose. Since starting my program, I feel stronger and more disciplined. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and health and eager to share what he knows with his clients. What I value most about his teaching style is that he sees and treats me as a person first rather than just another client. He takes into account my life style, values, goals, and synthesizes that into an effective and enjoyable program. I think his clients- regardless of their health background and experience- all gain something from him and come out feeling empowered.

Satyam Bharadwaj: Coach is amazing! My lifestyle has changed (in a good way) because of Coach Anthony. I am now more focused while training (boxing) and I can not only see results but feel it as well! All thanks to Coach Anthony! He is the best!! I would recommend everyone to join classes with Coach Anthony and see the results on your own....

Fee: Anthony has been my personal trainer for about 3 months now. I have learned so much about my body and how far I can push myself with proper form. Anthony is my first trainer that has incorporated nutrition, boxing, kickboxing, weight training and cardio sessions and I’ve seen some great results! I’m stronger, fitter, and can kick some butt if I have to LOL. I’ve also loss about 10lbs and a lot of inches. Overall, Anthony’s passion for what he does really pushes me and he never lets me quit! I’m grateful for his expertise and motivation.
Response: It was a pleasure having you as my student/friend whilst you were here. I hope where you are now you are continuing your physical fitness and that you are happy! Stay great!

Samer Elchahabi: I have been training with Anthony for over two years. He switched gyms and I ended up following him because he delivers quality instructions in Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu, MMA, and wrestling. It is rare in DC to find someone with all those skills. He is great at pushing you, focusing on the details and technicalities and he will make you sweat during the workout. He's got a great attitude with a dorky side and focuses on self-defense empowerment, particularly toward women.

Ponciano Q. Manalo: I had been in training for over a decade but needed to take a couple of years off. Coach Anthony game highly recommended from a former training partner and his recommendation was spot on. As an experienced martial artist (but somewhat out of practice) Coach Anthony was able to knock the rust off my game and build upon the foundations i already have. I still have a long way to go, but rest assured I am in good hands with him.

Jane Kelly: I have only been fortunate enough to take two (back to back) boxing classes with Anthony so far, but he was an incredible instructor. My skill and general fitness level were far below other class members, but he made sure that every exercise was a challenge I could overcome. I never felt defeated because an exercise was simply too difficult to complete properly, and I never felt discouraged or talked down to when I was given an alternative. I came in nervous, knowing nothing about boxing, and in two hours Anthony led me to breakthrough after breakthrough- I’m certainly no expert now, but i’m distinctly better than when I started. I can’t speak to his individual training, but the class environment was wonderful. Everyone knew each other and there was a lot of teasing, but everyone was really nice too. Students who were more experienced than me helped correct my movements and gave me advice. I felt really welcomed, and I hope to go back before I leave town!
Response: Thank you so much! We hope you come back before you leave!

Ma D: Awesome place for beginners and advanced BJJ lovers. Very friendly people. Good technics. I highly recommended this place who visiting Washington DC also who decided to start practising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Guys when you browsing different clubs with thoughts about what to choose please go there and you will meet really cool professional people. Good luck everyone. Oss.

Jack Cantlay: The instruction is top notch. Your instructors are amazing and follow a coherent system of training so that each week is a new thing. The gym culture is very friendly and welcoming but I still feel like I can get competitive live rolls. It really matters that your instructors are so friendly. That goes a long way. But they still push me! I love the balance.
Response: Thank you so much Jack, we appreciate that! We pride ourselves on our welcoming community and believe that a strong community fosters growth in our students.

Thuhuong Dao: - Coach to child ratio was excellent. - Coaches did a great job working the room and - working with each child/group. - Introduction/greet for my children’s first class was great and energetic. - Disciplining the students during class was thorough and appreciated. - Dismissal of students was organized (liked how the coach only let the kids go when he say the parents).
Response: HI there! Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate your feedback and we're so happy that you experienced the professionalism of our Kids' coaches!

Tara Trinity: Coach Carlos, coach D, everyone is amazing. We love Beta!!!! My son has come into an environment that supports him and is compassionate as well as disciplined. The diversity is something I was personally looking for, and that’s something that is even more a bonus.

Walter Bayer: Great place for all-levels of Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu enthusiasts. Very beginner-friendly with knowledgeable coaches who will patiently walk you through everything you need to know. After training here for a few sessions, you'll experience the great sense of community they foster. I loved that there was also a weight room to supplement training with strength & conditioning.

Tim .G: We were in DC on vacation and they welcomed us in for open mat, even stayed later to roll. Coach Gabriel was awesome. Awesome facility! Super friendly community! I definitely recommend!

Tyrone Calvin: I’m no strange to BETA academy and every time I go, I leave better than I arrived. Everyone is very friendly and professional. The Brazilian Ju Jitsu class is informative and state of the art in self defense.

CJ Francis: I love the welcoming culture, the high level and clarity of instruction, the daily availability of no gi classes as well as gi. Also the ample amount of time given for both drilling and sparring.

Saron Dessalegn: Friendly Coaches are willing to help and give good instructions!! Definitely recommend for a great education in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.
Response: Thank you so much Saron!

Amy Putens: In honesty we could not be more thrilled with our experience with BETA! We have been apart of the BETA community for approximately 2yrs. We started out just being an attendee of their summer program. After summer was over we would drive by often and my daughter would ask- "When do we get to go back to beta?" I knew then that this was where we needed to be. When you have a daughter (who is a girlie girlie) wanting to be apart of something so much bigger than Ballet or gymnastics I was sold. We then signed up for the after school program and we haven't turned back since. The excitement both my children have for their amazing staff and program is the reward for me at the end of the day. Having being I can trust in to guild my children down the right path and for my kids to respect them is 100% why we choose BETA!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU BETA! Thank you for all that you give!!!!!!
Response: Hi Amy, thank you so much for sharing your story with us! It makes us proud to have kids as enthusiastic and motivated as yours in our Kids Program!
