American Red Cross - National Headquarters: what do users think?

Claire Gudewich: Scheduled my appointment online. Upon arrival everyone was so friendly and kind. The whole process for me was about an hour and a half from start to finish.

Maricela Chavez Ruiz: You can come and donate blood. The parking space is limited, however, it is worth to come early and take a tour

Nizar Farsakh: The location is really very convenient and I usually find 2-hour parking on the street. The facility itself is old but modern on the inside,in fact very pretty. Staff are very nice. It can get busy sometimes so prepare accordingly. Rapid Pass saves some of that time.

Rae-Lei Justice: You want me to give. Well they say you shall give to receive. For 45 years and it hasn’t happened. So here goes and I’m not going to stop. And this is just the beginning. I’m putting it everywhere. However, I own and produce something the world and healthcare industry has begged for since December 2019. So for a fair trade I’m willing to do so. Free? Absolutely not, I have had to pay to live, survive and I can save a lot of people and the Government can afford to extend a hand to us that hold a key in saving thousands if not millions. I want a place to finally call home and that’s not asking much. I will be putting this everywhere and I’m asking all of you Type O- blood to stand up and do the same. They need us!!!

Brian Hedrick: Free tours of the building on Wednsday and Fridays. Beautiful exterior and interior. The American Red Cross has a lot of history worth learning about.

Corinthea Jackson: Stayed in a "shelter" during hurricane Florence. Slept on a urine-stained floor as Red Cross did not supply beds. They had blankets and pillows that they refused to give out. There was no food. There was no water. There were no supplies to clean ourselves with. Folks had knives and guns in the shelter, were doing drugs and having sex. Bed bugs and other diseases spread throughout and many were so sick they needed to go to the hospital. If I had any involvement whatsoever in this organization I would die from the shame. I have already stopped dozens of people from ever contributing again.

Cindyd D: The opposite of love is not hate but indifference Eli Wiesel Currently the Red Cross has a campaign to equip low income mobile homes with smoke detectors. I called them up - endless transferring me from one person to another. We have had two fires in our park. So after three days of calling around they tell me that they will give me one MAYBE in more than 40 days since volunteers install them. My offer to pick it up and install it myself was declined. So before you give ask yourself why the CEO makes 500000 USD and the management only 400 000 per year

Chintan Desai: Beautiful historic building with the highest social agenda

American Red Cross Blood Donation Center: what do users think?

Natalie HAGR: I was really excited to donate and looking forward to doing something for my community. I took time out of my work day to be at my 3:15 appointment. I waited for an hour before I was taken back for screening and ended up leaving because I had to be back at the office and didn’t have time for the donation. Had I been taken back during my appointment time or even 30 minutes after, I would have been able to donate. A corporation that is desperate for donations should be more mindful of appointment times and respectful of donors. Red Cross itself was the only obstacle that prevented me from donating, which is ironic. For a simple whole blood donation, the whole screening and donation shouldn’t take more than an hour. I made accommodations to give you MY blood, the least Red Cross can do is be accommodating. If you want more donations, make it easy for donors.
Response: Natalie, I'm sorry to hear about this experience and would like to make sure this information is passed on. Can you please send us an email to CustomerCare@redcross.org with these details so our team can follow up? -Taylor

Hunter Anderson: I never leave reviews but after the train wreck I just went through I feel like this deserves one. I just went in to donate platelets for the first time, and I was super excited. I know our country is in a blood crisis so I was happy to make at least a little difference. I’m working and I’m school full time so I lined it up to take the 3 suggested hours and not miss anything on my busy schedule. I showed up right at 3 for my appointment. After about nearly an hour of waiting I asked the receptionist if I should keep waiting, she asked one of the phlebotomists (Lydia) and Lydia came back and said she’d get me back there in 30 minutes. I finally got screened which took another 40 minutes before they finally took me back to the chair. To be completely honest with you the workers were beyond rude. The one that was placing the IV’s, missed my vein the first time, and said “well looks like you were squeezing to hard”. They gave me a ton of conflicting directions and when the monitor went off, they’d constantly get after me about how I was squeezing to fast or to slow. They talked behind all the patients backs in there. And when all was said and done with travel it was a 5 and a half hour ordeal. While I was there Lydia seemed to be the one in charge, you just expect better. Unfortunately you look at these reviews and they’re all the same. Huge waits, rude staff, and massive time commitments. It’s difficult to get people to specifically donate platelets, and it’s safe to say I won’t do it again. At least not at this location.
Response: Hunter, I'm sorry to hear about the experience that you described. We want to make sure that this feedback is appropriately routed, so we can follow up. Can you please email us the details at CustomerCare@redcross.org? Thank you.

Emilie K: I read some of these reviews on here about a hour before my apt, and I was nervous bc most of them were negative. However, my experience of donating whole blood (July 1, a Thursday afternoon) was extremely great! I had to wait about 15 mins (which isn’t a big deal) but other than that, I have zero complaints. Very smooth process and friendly staff. I will be back to donate soon - even got a nice hat today. Thank you for a wonderful donating experience and your hard work!!!
Response: Hi Emilie- Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the local donation center. We love to hear such positive comments from our donors, and we will share your praises with the Local Manager and the individuals that made your experience satisfying. Thank you! – Ivy

Nate Wong: This location has consistently been problematic. I am a consistent blood donor and also have organized volunteer blood drives. In this location, I have donated platelets on three different occasions, but the timing has taken over 5 hours. The actual donation time is usually 2-3 hours, but the wait time initially has consistently taken 1.5-2 hours which is unacceptable given how much time and effort it takes to make an appointment and come in person to donate. I have relayed this feedback in numerous forums without any regard or consideration. The team, while understandably short staffed, did not seem to be empathetic or helpful either. I’d highly suggest that they work on resourcing and workflow here to be fully considerate to the donors, staff, and volunteers that are part of this process. Until they do in earnest, I would highly suggest managing expectations and carving between 3-6 hours (!!!) for your blood donation.
Response: Hello Nate- Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback about your recent donation experience. We are very sorry to hear about this and want to ensure these issues are addressed. Please reach out to our Customer Care department at 1-855-210-1278 or customercare@redcross.org. They will ensure your feedback is forwarded to the appropriate department to be addressed. Thank you! - Ivy

K. Fitzpatrick: It is with great regret that I share my disappointing experience at this blood donation center. I don’t know if I will ever be able to comfortably donate again after my appointment here. I was very excited to complete my second whole blood donation, especially amidst ongoing shortages. I waited more than an hour and a half over my scheduled appointment time before my screening. I understand that weekends are hectic and was more than happy to wait to make my donation. My phlebotomist was well intentioned and kind, but wholly incompetent. I have small veins and have been turned away and asked to return before. This phlebotomist decided to proceed with the donation knowing that my veins were not fit for donation on that day. It was the worst blood withdrawal/donation experience of my life. The phlebotomist talked with her coworker for roughly 10 minutes before injecting me, and when she did, she was apparently unable to get the right angle. I am scared of needles—something I shared with her—and sat there as she repeatedly dug the needle around my arm, reinjected me, and finally decided to stop the donation half-way through because the vein wasn’t viable to begin with. Half a bag of my blood, almost two hours of my time, completely wasted. While she was still attempting to find the right angle, she told me that I should have had more to drink (I drank half a gallon of water before my appointment), essentially blaming me for the failed donation. At this point I started to tear up in frustration. She then told me that I should not give blood if I had a needle phobia. Yes, that’s right! A Red Cross phlebotomist told me to give up on blood donations. Shortly thereafter she repeatedly asked what trauma caused the phobia (a deeply personal question, it’s why donation is so important to me), which only made the experience worse. I unfortunately will follow my phlebotomist‘s guidance and not donate blood again following this experience. I have never written a review like this, but genuinely worry about this environment dissuading other donors like me from donating again. I will look to donate to the Red Cross in other ways and hope that no one else has an experience like mine.
Response: I'm sorry to hear about the experience that you described. We want to make sure that this feedback is appropriately routed, so we can follow up. Can you please email us the details at CustomerCare@redcross.org? Thank you. -Jessey

Holden Madison: Very professional, easy access, and a positive experience. I was a little worried at first based on the other reviews. This was also my first time donating platelets. But my worries were put to rest when I arrived. I was informed that parking is available on site for donors. The check-in process was smooth - I showed my drivers license, pulled out my Rapid Pass QR code, and went through the health screening. Everyone was so helpful and understanding. Special shout to Danielle during the screening process and to Charles & Lydia on the platelet/apheresis procedure. Warm blankets and access to Netflix/Hulu were provided. I was never patronized/alone/neglected, rather I was a part of the process and each stage and step was explained to me in careful detail. After the donation, refreshments were provided. I was also encouraged to stay hydrated, replenish my iron and vitamin levels. Hope to return soon. Pro Tips: Complete the Rapid Pass through the Red Cross app in advance if you can and bring a valid form of ID. Note your recent travel history, medication in the past 3 months as this may affect your eligibility. Stay well hydrated the 4 days leading up to your donation, but don’t overdo it on the day of your donation as you don’t want to be uncomfortable for the longer procedures (Platelets or Power Red Donations). Note that the platelet procedure is a time investment (allocate at least 3 hours from start to finish). And most importantly, remember that you are saving lives by donating!
Response: Holden, Thank you for your donation, and for your feedback! We love hearing things from our donors, so if you have anything else you would like to add please contact us at 855-210-1278 or email us at customercare@redcross.org! Thank you! -Taylor

Ian Lever: A bit of a strange experience. I had called ahead to confirm but when I got there, they said that that my appointment had unexpectedly been canceled. There was some back and forth between a couple of the staff and then they said that I could donate blood (this was amidst at the time was a severe blood shortage). In the end, it ended up being fine, but quite a bit of confusion in the beginning and seemed like a couple people behind me had to wait a fair bit of time.
Response: Hi Ian, Thank you for your donation, and for your feedback! I am sorry to hear of the confusion happening before your appointment! However, we love hearing things from our donors, so if you have anything else you would like to add please contact us at 855-210-1278 or email us at customercare@redcross.org! Thank you! -Jessey

American Red Cross: what do users think?

Luke Hendrixson: Some staff are great. Some treat you like an inconvenience. Considering how often the organization hounds people to donate blood you would think everyone would be happy to see someone donating their own blood, for free, on our own time.

Charita Mayo: I love volunteering for Red Cross. I have been doing this for 10 years! It brings me such joy to see the donors with smiles on their faces that come in so faithfully to donate to help give back to others. They are so pleasant. I also try to give blood donations. I do many mobile drives and volunteer at headquarters. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. If you are looking for a place to volunteer this is definitely a great option. Just visit the redcross.org website under become a volunteer 😁. We welcome you.

Ken Kozloff: Not very well organized or managed. Had an appointment to donate blood & traveled a distance to get there only to be told there was over an hour wait. I asked why I was never called to reschedule & the humble volunteer said she knew nothing about that. I called the 800 asking to speak to a supervisor, 4 days & I still waiting to hear back. One needs to really think about what site they are going to donate blood. Someone at this site in Arlington Va. Said never come to the main center it is poorly managed. Oh by the way I have donated more than one gallon. Ken

Robert Garrett: I visited the platelet apherisis center to donate. Process was fairly easy but time consuming, about three hours. Staff are all pleasant, polite and trying hard to make sure donors fell safe and comfortable. Prescreening is now done online by use of your smartphone instead of by oral or written questions as it was done five years ago. Red Cross badly needs donors of while blood, platelets and others blood products. Please consider making time in your life to donate.

Tyisha Martin: (Former employee) had the worst experience working here. They say they are non biased but I was discriminated against within the first week of employment. I was told by a supervisor by the name of Stephanie that “this isn’t a good job for me as a women who is a single mom” she then proceeded to fire me. Never was late and never left early I just wouldn’t stay longer than required during my ONLINE TRAINING. Discrimination toward Women and toward single mothers. Currently seeking others who are trying to start a class action suit. I know many others have been treated unfairly

Daniel L Williams: My daughter took a CPR class. She said the instructor was prepared and as a Teacher she feels well prepared for an unscheduled emergency.

Helen Michie: I came to this location to give blood. Unfortunately on that day, I was told by a Red Cross staff person that I was not eligible because my pulse rate was too high. However the staff person was very kind and professional in the way he turned me away. He even gave me a Red Cross tee shirt for my trouble.

Anton Op de Beke: Come here to donate blood. Always leave with a good feeling. Staff is competent and friendly. During Corona times, they are working at close to capacity. Don’t let that discourage you. Make your appointment a few weeks ahead if necessary.

American Red Cross: what do users think?

Honor Harris: I would recommend against taking any classes instructed by Mary Flynn. Her behavior was completely inappropriate the entire class. She was antagonistic & unbelievably mean to many of the students. While it made for some great laughs when telling my husband what occurred, it was not worth the verbal abuse. Everyone was so busy avoiding her insanity that not many life saving skills were learned. It makes sense that the Red Cross has no avenue to provide instructor feedback because if there was, Mary Flynn would not be instructing.

M B: I love the work they do and supportive of any event

Sahil Kumar Rajvanshi: Amazing and helpful people.

Jody Morrison: great charity

Miguel f González: Ok
