National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts: what do users think?

Crash of Rhinos: This is the most comprehensive, concentrated, program in the DC area, with the most patient, dedicated, intelligent faculty I could imagine working with. I've trained in Film, Television, and theater, in multiple styles. I am so excited about my training, and have used it to perfect effect. This year I was nominated for a Helen Hayes award as best lead actor. The Conservatory is the best, you'll get out of it what you put into it, and you'll be extremely successful if you work hard. Couldn't recommend them more. Absolutely the best training in DC.

AnaMarie King: Beautiful campus

The Theatre Lab: what do users think?

Ellis Jackson: An amazing organization and space for the dramatic arts! After week 1, I already see improvement in my son's confidence, articulation, team work, and an appreciation for the stage! We're already including next year's summer camp in our budget.

Paul Horan: Such a fabulous experience. Whether you're a newcomer to the theatre, or a working actor looking to brush up or expand some specific techniques, The Theatre Lab has classes that can work for you. I've been a part of dozens of productions, from staged readings to full plays and musicals, and every experience has been wonderful. They also offer an Honors Conservatory program for up-and-coming actors to focus and hone their skills.

Hannah W: The Theatre Lab is a great theatre resource for the DC/East Coast region! I loved attending classes, and the instructors were always knowledgeable, accessible, and were all working professionals in the industry. I would highly recommend attending classes here if you're thinking about acting in the DC Area. They're amazing!

Len Breslow: Theatre Lab has changed my life in ways I never anticipated. I started out with no acting experience 3 1/2 years ago and have taken many classes and acted in a play in Theatre Lab. The teachers are all expert, committed and supportive. I've learned so much about acting, the worlds of theatre, TV, and film, and about myself!

Merlene Vassall: I took the "Public Speaking the Actor's Way" class in May 2018 and found it to be well worth the price. The text for the course was full of helpful theory on public speaking using acting techniques. These were put into practice in class. Students learned how to "act" -- imagining themselves or the audience in different ways -- to bring out their best "performance." I highly recommend this course.

Terry Nicholetti: As a late blooming actor (started seriously in my 60's!) I'm thrilled to have found a school/community that offers such a stunning array of classes/teachers. Serious professionals supporting our work. A community of theater lovers. And so much fun! what more could anyone ask. Thank you Theatre Lab!

Alison Bauer: Started in Theatre Lab's Honors Conservatory and was transformed by the year. Incredibly supportive environment with teachers from D.C. Theater who pushed me to be the best actor/self I could be. I have taken this training to work professionally in DC theater community. A dream come true!

Ginger Moss: The Theatre Lab is a great place to take acting classes. They are taught by professionals (most of them working actors), are reasonably priced and varied. They are appropriate for beginning actors to experienced.

Kimberly Dionne Moore: I am a volunteer and I truly enjoy the entertainment of the plays! The staff is outstanding and the student actors and actress are Phenomenal ! Seating is ideal . The only recommendation I say is during intermission make a short announce regarding food concessions for sale and perhaps display or sale some Theater lab paraphernalia such as T-shirts or small bags I would definitely buy one ! Kimberly M.

Christopher Holbert: This is a great place to learn acting, study the craft, and make real-world connections in the industry. The environment is safe and supportive. The staff is top notch and approachable. And I have worked with people I met there, both staff and students, in my career on stage/film/television ever since.

The Actors' Center: what do users think?

Jane M: The leaders of The Actor's Center are open-minded, hardworking artists serving this ever-growing community. We are so fortunate to have this organization and these people working on behalf of DC/VA/MD Theatre!
Response: Thank you so much for the kind review! We love helping our DMV acting community.

Bill Hollingsworth: I re-joined the Actors' Center several years ago when I decided to return to acting after a long hiatus. I thought, if nothing else, it would be a touchstone as I attempted to re engage with the business. Was I ever surprised at what I found, the AC is all grown up! There are classes and seminars and general auditions to mention just a few of the benefits of membership. There is a daily hotline with specific auditions and notices that I get with my coffee every morning. It is a serious clearinghouse and resource for actors at all levels. I was fortunate to recently get an audition slot at their winter auditions and was very impressed with how smoothly this effort was carried out, not to mention the large number of industry job creators who audited the event in search of new talent. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the quietly superb job Ms. Ginger Moss does in overseeing and administering the AC. I have no doubt this organization would be a mere shadow of itself without the involvement and guidance that Ginger has provided over the many years she has been with the Actors' Center. The D.C. acting community owes her a huge debt of gratitude for her continuing service.
Response: Dear, Bill. Thank you for your kind words! We're so glad you're a part of the community and that you're getting a lot out of your AC membership.

Debora Crabbe: One of the best investments as an actor. I've gotten job after job from this website/membership. Highly recommend. The classes are helpful, location is easy to get to, and the staff are very understanding and thoughtful. Love this organization.
Response: Thanks for your kind words, Debora! We're grateful to have you as a part of the organization. Thanks for being a thoughtful participant at our workshops and events. We hope to see you soon.

Joe Graf: Such an excellent service to local actors!
Response: Thank you so much!

Washington Improv Theater: what do users think?

Carolyn Fox Darville: Grateful for the virtual classes at Washington Improv Theater during quarantine. I've been taking the amazing accent classes with Sarah Nichols and am honing my craft. She provides excellent guides for you to ace whatever accent. Highly recommend. Can't wait to take an in person improv class.

Robert Craig Ashby: This was a wonderful experience. Each of the performers did an excellent job. A great event, great respect for the art form, and great individuals coming together as a team while maintaining their unique voices in a cohesive manner. Truth is comedy!!!!LOL
Response: So glad you had a great time! See you again soon we hope!

Zach LeBlanc: Went to see an improv performance of several groups and it was a great time! Admission is free, but they do ask for donations at the end to support the theater. The only downside is the seating is very cramped and there is not much of it, so be sure to get there very early!

Bossi: A friend of mine brought me along to see a show here & I've been hooked ever since, including helping out as a volunteer (or "operative", as they're called) with keeping the shows running. It's great fun to watch & just as much fun to help out behind the scenes. There are a couple dark months throughout the year, but in general there are house groups performing consistently, including iMusical: the Improvised Musical. FIST is an improv tournament in spring- a great time to see some less-experienced groups early on; and the cream of the crop toward the end. Improvapalooza runs later in the year & is my favorite- groups just try out any zany idea: they don't *always* work, but usually they're extremely entertaining or I can at least admire the creativity. Neutrino is in autumn & is an improvised short film -- filmed as you watch it.

Darren Wacker: This is a fantastic experience. I was there with Friends on a Harold Night, which can be hit or miss and this was largely a hit. Great theater location and experience. Great sight lines and good selection of drink options.

Fadi Castronovo: I really enjoyed the WIT. The improv groups where funny and the crowd was relaxed. The beer was affordable and yummy snacks.

Christina Malliris: What's not to love about excellent local improv? Plus, they sell beer!

Stephen M: Have been to multiple shows. Always a joy and always a night of many laughs.

Sharlette Williams: Great date night or just sinething different to do. Really talented group.

Jéri Ogden: I've been taking a Level I class and it's been a ton of fun!

Imagination Stage: what do users think?

Sarah Tropiano: I took my 4-year-old son and niece to Corduroy at Imagination Stage and we all had a magical time. The room is the perfect size so the kids felt like they were in a special show ad could really see because they sat close to the stage. The spin on this Corduroy story was so clever and imaginative and the set design and special effects were — according to my son — magical. We especially loved the tower of toilet paper and remote control vacuum. We will definitely be back for more shows this year!

Rose Hahn: The education programs and performances are amazing here. I've had nothing but positive experiences as a patron and as an employee.

Hatice Ozcelik: I went there for my kids, but I had as much fun! Very clean place, very kind staff and guaranteed -quality- family fun!

Jeremy F: A nice venue with multiple theaters and studios. Would love some more nutritionally balanced food options. There is a sweets shop inside.

Sweta Ladwa: This place is a hidden gem. We went to go Cinderella and I can't tell you how happy I was to see such a diverse cast. The production was wonderful and completely age appropriate. If you go on Sundays, there's free public parking. The tickets are very affordable and they do a great job of engaging the children. I will go back again and again with the kids!

Reggie Gaither: We went with my daughter's 1st grade class. The kids loved being able to help the characters choose their path in the play. My daughter asked if we could come back as soon as the show was over. Great fun!

rah btw: Saw my friend play 10 secs Anthony is life i love my bff

Michelle Johnstone: The most magical place on earth! I have been going to Imagination Stage for 10 years and the organization never disappoints. Acceptable for all aged children from 1-18, kids can take classes throughout the year as well as summer camps through the summer. Great family activities include the shows in the Lerner theatre, and for the little itty bitty ones, there are wonderful interactive performances for 1-5 years old. The staff are extremely professional and everything is always run so well.

Michelle Macasaet: Love this place! I haven't been to a show here yet, my daughter has and absolutely loved it. I have though, been here to take my daughter to class. She's doing the Harry Potter class right now and is really learning a lot and enjoying her time there. We'll definitely be looking at other classes for her to sign up and attend.

Paul McGinley: My daughter was 4 when I took her to her first show. Ten years later we still love coming and enjoying the amazing sets, actors and great atmosphere. I became a subscriber and am proud to support this local resource for arts in Montgomery county. Please come see a show for yourself.

Duke Ellington School of the Arts: what do users think?

Gina Lee Thomas: My daughter is a freshman at Duke Ellington. She has wanted to attend the school since she was six years old. She LOVES it. Duke Ellington School is such a wonderful experience for these children. Kids who are driven by the arts are special. These kids find it difficult to navigate in some school environments. Ellington is a place where they not only survive…they thrive!

jayesh lakkad: Verry good school. Im from Indian state Gujarat

Maddie Grant: Awesome music school, taught by actual practitioners of the various arts.

Zion Callaham: This is my second year at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and I am in love!!!!! No school is perfect, but as far as I'm concerned, this comes close.

William Young: What a School!!! If My school was like this I think I would spend more time there than At home Amazing

Jamed Sutton: A very good school,Many of the students performed well in college.

Keith Marks: Its a Ellington thang

Krys J: The office staff are rude and they are very unprofessional . I cant wait until my daughter graduates next year!!

Studio Theatre: what do users think?

Rose Schneider: The story for the white noise performance was excellent, not easy but invokes some real thinking.. The acting of all four characters but especially the lead male was unparalleled.

Joseph Raczynski: Impressive space, in the theater me just outside where they often have receptions. The reception area is a tad funky with pillars breaking up the room. It's awkward unfortunately. Overall the theater makes up for that minus. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz

Jim Long: Great show! Well performed ands thoughtful.

Sergio Guerrero: Had a great experience and the place looks amazing after the 2021 remodeling. You're in close proximity to the action in the theater.

Scott “DC Cheetah” Suchyta: Very much enjoyed Flight, which was the purpose of our visit. It was quite an impressive display and work of art. The under-construction space was a little labyrinthian, but was only a minor obstacle.

Ruth Ann Nelson: Wonderful set of small theaters showing avant garde plays. Always a treat to go there!

Dave Watts: We're lucky in DC to have so many good theaters. Studio was renovated a few years ago and has several stages available at once for plays. Most of them have seats that wrap maybe two-thirds around the stages. The stages are pretty small, but large enough to be effective. A lot of the plays here have small casts, maybe just three people, and they're almost all modern plays by new, respected playwrights, and the plays aren't so ... experimental as you might see elsewhere. The actors are quite talented and the plays are almost always very good. There is an occasional rare clunker, but season tickets are definitely worthwhile!

Joseph Buckreis: Great staff, totally welcoming and friendly even to college students. Students get a great discount which makes it even more worthwhile to come see a play or three here. Clean and cozy, the theater is really comfy and looks good. They put on a lot of new and exciting shows, definitely a good place to see a play, especially if you're new to theater

Cornelis Vaandrager: What an exquisite menu. I haven't been in the US long, but this has by far been one of my favourite dining experiences. The food was perfectly seasoned and perfectly flavoured, it came to our table far faster than expected. Servers were attentive and really helpful in terms of recommendations. It was really a marvelous experience. I would recommend the fig wrapped in ham, the skirt steak, the Brussels sprouts, the lamb meatballs, and the eggplant is a triumph. I am most definitely returning

Matt Easley: Have seen at least four performances here in the 2018-19 season. All were poinent plays for our day. Acting and staging were always outstanding, the plays thought provocative, and the price for the evening quite reasonable. Always a good selection of drinks at the bar as well and lots of good restaurants near by. Worth visiting regularly.

Encore Stage & Studio: what do users think?

Connor Niland: I am quite disappointed in my child's summer camp. She had been looking forward to it, but now she doesn't even want to go anymore. I wish I'd known before I signed my daughter up that that Encore Stage & Studio fired the entire full time staff.

Catherine Meek: My relationship with Encore began some 15+ years ago when my oldest was a preschooler. We enjoyed many Encore shows together (called The Children's Theater at that time.) She's now in college and my relationship with Encore continues, as my other two are still involved in Encore productions. The shows are clever and appropriate, and the atmosphere for the kids involved is engaging and positive. My three kids are all very different from one another, and yet each has had such a wonderful experience being a part of the Encore team, making friends of different ages and genders, starting out as little ones who learned from others and growing to acquire more responsibility. Really, the level of input and responsibility given to these kids is remarkable and unique. Encore is a true benefit to our community.

Joshua Hampson: Would give a 0. They fired their entire full time staff without publicly acknowledging how COVID impacted their operations, but still send me emails as if nothing as changed asking for my money. I had volunteered with them at one point and had believed in what they did, but they never even reached out to anyone saying they were struggling. I support theater and the arts, but their response was inappropriate.

D. GR: I went with my 5 years old and her best friend, they were amazed and happy, and see their faces on that wonderful play.Very talented kids, wonderful play, I loved it!!!I will keep checking what is coming next!!

Ella Tiller: It's a great experience to be in a play but it's important to never give up encore does some great encouraging and their plays are amazing and at least one line in every play makes u laugh and they never give up on u ☺️

Petra Holden: Great community theater program - both for those acting and those in the audience. Bring your children to a performance and teach a love of live theater!

Nushi A S M R: The grossest place I have been to

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts: what do users think?

Amanda Turcotte: I love being a member of the Kennedy Center. I joined during the pandemic because I wanted to support the arts and because a friend told me how much they enjoyed being a member. Fast forward a couple years later and I am finally able to enjoy both indoor and outdoor events at the center. The mission of the Kennedy Center really speaks to me and the community events as well as amazing performances throughout the year definitely make the membership worth while. My husband and I attended our first opera this year. We have also attended a few National Symphony Orchestra performances and a members only rehearsal. It was really special to watch the orchestra rehearse and see how the players and conductor come together to perform beautiful compositions. The Hall of States and Hall of Countries are really something to behold as well. There is so much history to learn about. The Reach is another building on the campus that is also full of great historical moments and an active work area for artists. The grounds have an amazing view of the Potomac River as well. There is parking on site for $25 and members receive a $5 discount on parking if you book in advance. We have not tried the on site restaurant yet, but plan to soon. Definitely check out an event and grounds of the Kennedy Center, if you are in the area. You will want to come back for sure. Thanks! :-)

Joana Ward: Lunar New Year Lanterns. Beautiful Display and family friendly. During COVID everyone was wearing masks even outside. Recommending you go early to park and although the line was long it moved quickly for how long it was (40 minutes). There was a free station for activities the kids could do. Bring two adults for kids so someone can stay in line while the other one has the kids exploring.

Jessica Isbell: We had an absolutely amazing time! The entire experience was just wonderful. My 6 year old thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Venue was incredible, staff exceptional. Weather was a perk too, perfect day. The outside area for intermission with views of DC is fabulous. We will absolutely be back. Thank you for adhering to masking and vaccination policies as well while bringing the arts back into these hectic times.

preservefootprints: We visit there on last 2 days of the Reach Winter Lanterns Festival. It was a huge area filled with lanterns displays celebrating 2022 Lunar New Year, it was so beautiful and bright. They have benches with heater around the open space. The organizer has worked excellent to manage the guests flow!

David Morar: A true home for the performing arts, the Kennedy Center has numerous stages from the Opera House to a black box theater and everything in between. Created for DC residents and tourists alike, the Center brings or originates amazing shows, events and workshops. It’s both the institutional house for the National Symphony Orchestra and the place that has daily free shows (of all types) at 6pm. It’s truly got something for everyone, and with the recent addition of The Reach its uhm, reach has broadened even further! You can never go wrong with the KC. Highly recommend visiting on a random day even if you’re not going for a show: having just celebrated 50 years, the center is proud of its history and showcases it among other revolving pieces in its vast and airy halls. Check out the terraces (ground level and “terrace” level) and enjoy sweeping views of the city. A true gem in the nation’s capital!

Greg Zillgitt: Our visit to the Kennedy Center a few years ago is one of my fondest memories. Attended a performance of Mendelssohn' violin concerto in E minor, with Hillary Hahn as the soloist. A near-perfect experience, acoustically and visually. A striking venue. Walking distance from the Watergate (also highly recommended).

Mark Capriotti: Arrive early, grab a drink, and walk along the roof top. Perfect way to start the evening looking at many views of DC. Masks are required for the theater.

C F: Beautiful performing arts center with amazing friendly staff. Our family loves to attend shows as well as grab some snacks and walk the grounds. Some beautiful views of the river, some monuments and Georgetown. Also 2 gift shops, a cafe, and multiple snack stations. Underground parking also available or you can grab the shuttle which picks up and drops off at the GW metro station.

spellman1224: Went to see the play "Ain't too proud" it was awesome. We had the last row in Tier 2 and the seats were comfortable. The staff was great and courteous and eager to assist. Was able to take Metro and take the Kennedy Center Bus to get there. Even the bus driver was friendly 😊

Grey TheCat: This place is a lot of things, historic, classy, artsy, fun, accessible, it offers a ton of free activities and events and variety. This is a cultural epicenter and one of the East coast best venues. Spacious, easy parking and overall inexpensive events make it accessible to most people even those on a small budget.

orville lewis: I had the best seat in the house. It was a tremendous experience. Walking distance to Chinatown and Capital Center. Close to Metrorail. Got my fried rice and headed back home.

Laila Mobini: It was an absolutely amazing theatre experience!!! The Merchant of Venice was spectacular!!!A fresh and modern artistic interpretation so relevant and well suited to our times!!!The box office staff and ushers are incredibly polite!!!

Nathan Bryant: Attended a performance of "Vanity Fair"; it was nice. The theater is very clean, great acoustics and lighting, comfortable seating, and the performers this evening did a great job. I look forward to attending this venue again.

Gerald Blum: We saw Merchant of Venice, but found the production rather disappointing. The actor playing Shylock was quite good, but we felt a few others were miscast, and were disappointed with the overall direction.

Amanda Cassa: The seats were great. It is a small intimate setting where all seats are good. The very front two rows you will have to crane your neck a bit. The staff was super nice and helpful. Saw Vanity Fair and it was very well done.

Samantha Casey: Amazing performance of Merchant of Venice. The production was fantastic, hats off to the actors and actresses!

Brian Day: Excellent theater, very clean, great views of stage throughout.

Karine Rafferty: Saw first play after pandemic. "Jan Kraski" Excellent play, good seats. Theater quite cold, so bring something warm to wear.

J C: Amazing venue for a showing of The Great Divorce. Intimate with great acoustics. The only downside is that, when we visited, the temperature in the auditorium felt very high. Several in our group commented that it became very uncomfortable towards the end of the performance. I would advise dressing in layers so adjustments can be made. Highly recommended.

Jim Power: Great theater to see a show. They sometimes have issues with credit card purchases, so bring cash if you want to buy anything.
