The Wydown Coffee Bar: what do users think?

Khoi Nguyen: Great coffee spot located on a busy street. I recently stopped by on an early Sunday and the line was almost out the door. My friends and I ordered a regular coffee, espresso shot and a matcha latte. Prices are reasonable for DC and service was really quick. I’ll definitely be back for their breakfast pastries

Josephine Valois: I’ve had good experiences the first few times I’ve stopped by for breakfast, but this time was just the worst. $12 for avocado toast and it’s covered in so much oil I used 4 napkins to wipe it off. It’s completely soggy with oil. I unfortunately didn’t notice until I walked home to eat. The coffee is good, but get the breakfast sandwich instead.

Michael Meotti: Good coffee, great scones (I had the cherry almond, good amount of fruit and a bit of sugar icing on top...all to the good!) and nice location with comfortable indoor seating, some tables outside and a roll open garage style door/window in the front for nice weather.

Oliver Wiehe: The flavor of the coffee is exquisite. The coffee is so good it needs no sugar or cream. Be sure to order a orange cranberry muffin. The sugar layer has a wonderful crunch to the warm fruit flavors inside. Atmosphere is casual urban. Wydown coffee bar is a must visit when close to U street in DC.

chparatrooper88: Wydown Coffee Bar. One word…wow.Coffee is second to none. Gluten free options. Price is the best yet.

Emir Sfaxi: I love Wydown since I don’t live far from it. However I was really disappointed that they removed the blueberry lavender scone and their pimento cheese biscuit. These two items were part of their best sellers! They also removed the croissants from the menu and never brought them back.

Jhori Lobban: Elizabeth is the best barista there! She is immensely respectful and kind and has a very nice personality. She made sure my order was correct and the latte was perfect ! Hope you guys are treating her as the asset to your establishment that she surely is.

Ravi S.: They use the lightest roast from their coffee supplier for their espresso. This results in a highly acidic, sour shot. Furthermore, milk drinks taste a bit curdled because of the extremely high acidity. If you like the espresso here, you have no sense of what good coffee is. Perplexingly, the line here is always long, indicating the sad state of coffee quality in the District.

Soho Tea & Coffee: what do users think?

Hannah Sadollah: Mobile ordered to avoid the line and ended up waiting 20 minutes more than everyone else that arrived around the same time we did. Coffee come with the food so we just had to sit and wait for 30 minutes. The sandwich was $10 and it was average in taste. Coffee was good. If you come here only order a drink and do not mobile order.

Lisa Smith: My favorite cafe in DC! I come here very often. The place has changed tremendously after the new owners took over. I love their pastries and teas. My favorite is the Green Pomegranate tea. They have happy hour as well. Wine and beer on a great price.

Debra Olson: Delicious coffee and tea, plus delicious pastries. Friendly staff and quite reasonable prices. Nice patio for eating outside or comfy chairs and tables inside. I suggest it for a relaxing weekend afternoon spot.

Michael Kellar: Comfortable cafe, nice service, awesome location. Come to DuPont, get a little off the normal path, and definitely worth a visit while you do something work or just wait for a meeting.

Jamie Gaitor: Liana was a fantastic server! We came in a little after her shift ended but she was happy to take care of us and converse with our group. The coffee was great, will be back whenever we visit DC again!

Sweet Science Coffee: what do users think?

Carolyn K: This is a wonderful little coffee shop and a must visit if you’re taking a coffee shop tour of DC. The parking was not great, so I had to part about 4 blocks away and walk. The shop was really cute inside and was not super crowded which was nice. The coffee and food was delicious!

Hind KH: It’s quite place to get work done. I liked their new social rose cold brew. The cinnamon roll and strawberry loaf are delicious

Liam Mullins: I previously gave this place a lower rating for what was a once-off issue with a coffee I had ordered. Since going back, I’ve had more positive experiences. Overall, this is a great place. There are some things I would like to see changed though. (1) The limit on WiFi (I think it’s two hours). In the age of remote work, they’re missing out on work from home folks. I’ve worked from Sweet Science, only for my WiFi to elapse, even though I would have happily ordered more coffee to stay put. (2) The seating isn’t the warmest. With a couch or two, some other seating options, or even just more seating, the atmosphere could be a lot warmer. That shouldn’t stop anyone though—the coffee is great!

Samantha Melvin: My husband and I stopped for a quick coffee and breakfast. Home made pop tarts were delicious and coffee was deep and rich. We both drink black and were not disappointed.

Ted Lai: Cortado very tasty. The vegetable quiche could have been warmed a bit longer because the inside was still very cold, but I saw potential. Scones were awesome. This place in NoMa is worth going back repeatedly.

monica yarur: LOVE the cortado! And the pastries are so delicious. Great place, 100% recommended!

Zoe Weaver: This is probably one of my favorite coffee shops for working in DC! Low volume music, great pastries and drinks, wifi, outlets, and friendly service. Parking in this area is a bit crazy, but overall great experience.

Emissary: what do users think?

Martha Wilson: Hip vibe at this neighborhood coffee. Cool interior but lots of space outside. Delicious food and coffee, too. Thumbs up!

Rebecca Peters: I’ve been here several times and had pretty mixed experiences. The staff is super kind and lovely. If you’re there to work, there’s very limited seating with plug access for charging devices. In ~5 visits, I’ve never been able to get on the wifi (even with restarting devices/the wifi itself etc.) The coffee is really good, but other aspects could use some improvement; I ordered a salad (~$15!) expecting it to be pretty substantial at that price. Was disappointed when it came with only a few pieces of grapefruit, half an avocado, and stemmy greens. Overall: go for good coffee, pre-charge your devices, consider not ordering salad.

Rosa: I love the vibe, the location, the avocado toast, the coffee and pastries of Emissary, but there are a few recurring issues that I hope they address: Some of the staff are very ignorant. You need to ask for one thing several times for them to address. The tables are not always being cleaned after someone leaves. People constantly come and go and sometimes you just get to sit at the dirty table and even when you ask for a napkin to clean the table, the person doesn’t come back. The WiFi also sucks. If you need to do stuff online, you can’t rely on their WiFi.

Tatiana Padilla: Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating; a variety of small plates; and delicious coffee! The space was cute and the staff was friendly. The espresso was a bit fruity and bright— not what I expected. Wish there were more breakfast pastries/breads available throughout the day as the food menu was a bit on the expensive side.

HK: My go-to comfort cafe in the neighborhood. Coffee and pastries are great. They have ample seating space indoors and outdoors, which makes it a great rendezvous point. They offer healthy food options although the portions aren’t big.

Lisa Giorgi: Cozy casual place, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Tried the egg sandwich which was tasty. Good for breakfast and work.

Jelena Djokic: Cool, indie coffee place. It serves delicious coffee and pastries. Prices are average. We got a tasty carrot cake cupcake there. The only thing that bugged me was that we took the food outside and there was simply no argonomic way to eat it without getting super messy, so I would recommend that they get utensils for the take-out.

Bhinesha Seetaram: The best matcha latte. I took mine with almond milk.

Tynan Coffee & Tea: what do users think?

Jessica C: This place has my favorite lattes/mochas. I think it’s because of the textured milk. Their seasonal honey lavender latte was fantastic — sweet but not sickeningly so. Their ancho chili mocha has the exact right amount of spice. Unfortunately though, these don’t translate to their iced coffee counterparts. If you want a flavored drink, order it hot, as the flavoring separates and you can taste powdered cinnamon (or whatever it is) when served cold. Great selection of pastries including bullfrog bagels. This is always where I go for a treat.

Audrey Jane: Ordered a delicious cafe con leche. Their ginger flavor was great. But I came here specifically to work on homework the register worker informed me that the manager turns off the Wi-Fi on the weekend?? The description for this place advertises wifi, I was disappointed when there wasn’t any. Had to go to another place, wish I didn’t spend my money here

Margot Igland Skarpeteig: Perfect espresso - so sweet! And patient and super friendly staff.

Shey Wilkin: Made a quick stop into Tynan during our trip to DC pre-pandemic. Nothing too memorable, but I do recall it being really close to the bus stop, which made it super convenient, since we were strictly traveling by free public transport at the time. Husband had that delicious looking waffle, egg, and cheese sandwich sitting in a pool of syrup. I think I got a turkey avocado sandwich. I would go here again.

Real Live Blue: The everything bagel, blueberry waffle and turkey sandwich are amazing🔥🔥🔥🔥

Haim Haviv: Laptop-friendly neighborhood cafe. However, the bagel my breakfast sandwich was served on was dry and internet is limited so you need a code every hour. Otherwise friendly staff and a spacious place.

Nancy Cosner: Amazing. Chilli ancho mocha. My new fave. I like spicy. This has got just a touch at the end. Barista super helpful and friendly. My first visit. Will definitely return.

Slipstream: what do users think?

Paolo Verzani: exceptional espresso program. Truly incredibly gifted craftsman. When I visit from NYC I without fail come to visit this cafe and I always get a flat white and enjoy the oudoor seating they have and read my Bible and just unwind. It’s the greatest cafe with a really stunning food selection too! I love their avocado toast, it goes well with their habenero spicy jam!

Ido Simyoni: Such a hipster place for a weekend brunch. Really enjoyed the vibe, service and food. Everyone was so nice and friendly.

Sofia Diaz: We went because of the good reviews online, the place was nice and cozy we were excited to eat there. However after ordering and having paid we were told that we had to eat outside in the rain. It was not the best experience to say the least. Food was ok. I would have preferred to have been given a heads up before ordering.

Angela Huffaker: Carrot cake muffin with sage and cream cheese + breakfast sandwich where amazing, but the coffee was the show - Maximum Effort put in

Jeff E: Great coffee and food. They need to update their offerings online as they say open for dine in and they are not.

S B: Several people behind me got their orders before me. i asked what happened; woman said sorry making your red eye now. she had two cups in her hands and couldn’t tell which one had espresso shots and which one had something else. shockingly, during the pandemic, her colleague put his nose in both to figure it out. took a sip and it was full of vanilla. returned, and she acted like this was a casual mishap—really though, she forgot my red eye and then made a it with shots of vanilla, and then just handed me a new cup of coffee on the spot without even making espresso. kind of grossed me out and i had to work way too hard for a simple order that was overpriced ($6+).

Ian Desouza: Came to this cafe because of the reviews but unsure how it’s reviewed so highly. Just ordered a couple of oat lattes, the price (excluding tip) was greater than $12. Unfortunately one of the worst coffees I’ve had, tbh I would rather go to Starbucks. The staff’s perfunctory service failed to compensate for a poor quality coffee.

Sue Loftis: This was such a cute little coffee shop. Small and not kid friendly. I had the vanilla iced latte, it was perfectly sweetened, not too much sugar that overpowered the coffee flavor. And the Avocado toast was prob the best I’ve had anywhere. I’ve never had it the way they make it but I was pleasantly surprised.

cosmopus: Nice, cozy place. Nice spot to start your day with.Negative side: not clean utensils

Tryst: what do users think?

India Lindsay: Nice ambiance, quite chatty and a little dark. Plenty of seating and I had no trouble finding an outlet. Tried the seasonal Sakura latte and it was average, didn’t taste anything more than a vanilla latte. The barista was unhelpful and looked annoyed when I was asking questions about the taste of specialty drinks.

Ian Dutton: Really wanted to like this place more. Welcoming environment 🌈 and comfortable place to meet friends or pull out a laptop. But the service was indifferent at best. I asked for coffee to-stay but was served plastic that just ends up in the trash. Wanted a cannoli but was told I could only order 2 at a time, for $7! What?!? I can’t eat 2 and didn’t want to pay for 2! When I questioned the staff mumbled something about it being the same policy for cookies too. So if you don’t have enough money to buy more than you want, you can’t be their customer? Finally the outside street-seats could use some fixing up - just look at your neighbors with greenery and welcoming structures, not just blacktop and concrete dividers!

JONATHAN POTTER: Good ambience. Friendly although a little distracted (maybe post Thanksgiving effect). Coffee decent without being amazing. V good muffins and spinach twist. We didn’t try the bigger breakfast dishes. Plenty of space and v laid back.

L.A. Rusterucci: Walked in and was confused how seating and or service was being offered. I was told to find a seat and a server would be over to assist me. However, I had to flag a server down to place an order. Server was friendly and attentive once I got his attention. I love this area and the concept of this place. Will be back again.

Katie Damon Scheuer: Tryst had exceptional service. When you sit down a friendly server comes over right away with water and a menu, and cleans off your table. Their food is delicious (breakfast burrito is so good) and their coffee solid. It’s bustling during weekdays but magically my favorite couch always seems to be open.

Jeremy Champagne: Great little neighborhood coffee and breakfast joint. Authentic teas (such as Dragon Wells) are available, and smoothies too (my favorite with kale, spinach and apple cider, Green Machine) !

Sadia Khan: I love exploring cafes when I visit new places, my first time in DC last year, I came across this very cute and charming cafe on the 18th street. We came for a light breakfast. Ordered turmeric milk, brownie , butter croissant and I don’t exactly remember the name but it was something coconut pie kind of thing but it was super delicious. I even loved the turmeric milk. We sat outside. Our server was a very pleasant guy. Would definitely recommend this place.

The Coffee Bar: what do users think?

Mo Stych: Really bright, friendly coffee shop with fun specialty drinks. We were hoping for the cardamom latte (on a recommendation from a friend) but they weren’t serving it anymore. Bummer! However, the turmeric latte was delicious. The staff is super welcoming and fun, making us feel comfortable from the very start. Good tunes and a farmhouse chic decor. Worth a visit if you need a caffeine fix!

Melvin Johnson: I really enjoyed this coffee bar. It’s fairly trendy/bohemian on the inside. Love the atmosphere and they give you the option of Single Origin Espresso in your beverage. Highly recommend.

Hila Fogel-Yaari: Wonderful service and cardoman hot cider. I love that the cider came with a piece of toffee.

Kristen McNicholas: The mocha is delicious, they let you bring your own mug and though its a little pricey, the quality and customer service make it worth it!

Will Koehrsen: A typical over-priced corner coffee store. The staff are friendly and the coffee (at least the lattes) are very good, but you pay a hefty price. A good choice if your fine spending $5+ on a cup of coffee, but not a great value. There is limited seated inside, and when I went (late afternoon) all the seats were occupied.

Vishal Sinha: This is most definitely my go to place for some good (upscale) pour over coffee (and other treats). The store has been popular and busy since they opened a few months back and have managed to offer the same level of service and coffee since the start. They offer a small number of coffee options that are all very good! They do offer coffee from Onyx Coffee from Fayetteville, Arkansas - one of my favorite coffee roasters. Their pour overs are made well with consistently and I even like their cold brew :) Staff is friendly and always ready to recommend a drink if needed. A good addition to the busy coffee scene in DC

Vlad Korobov: Nice barista. Tiffany colors. Stylish. Not a lot of space, very popular during the day. Did not find wifi here

Compass Coffee: what do users think?

Natalia Suska: Best coffee at Georgetown and arguably all of DC! Came here so many time while studying at GU and they nailed the drinks every time. The baristas are super sweet and helpful too. The almond butter lattes are my favorite but everything tastes amazing.

Teresita Bañon Leal: Good place to sit and work on something or just to have a coffee with a friend.Perfect to grab a coffee. Generally you will have to do a line to grab a drink but the line goes fast.Good quality of coffee and nice staff.

Micaela O: Cool big coffee shop. Perfect place to come and get some work or reading done while enjoying some delicious coffee. Had the almond butter latte and it was insane! Quick and good service as well.

Hind KH: There is no doubt that their coffee is always good. I really love this branch, and for me it is the best one. It is somehow big and it has plenty of tables that makes it a perfect spot to have your work done.

Logan Deyo: Great coffee shop with nice baristas, plenty of places to work (outlets galore), and good coffee. Plus a little fireplace in the back!

Marc Neilson: This is my favorite Compass and the setting is ultra charming and cozy - complete with modern fire place. I have the BEST cafè au laits here with oatmilk. I just wish they were open later.

Jennifer: Good spot, clean bathrooms, and solid coffee. Iced coffee didn’t have too much ice at all, which is a pet peeve of mine. And they have a tap for water (still or sparkling) which is a nice bonus!

Zelin Li: Compass Coffee does a great job in terms of consistency and this shop is no exception. Lots of varieties, pour-over, cold brew, what have you. The staff are knowledgeable. The location can’t be better. The only downside is you may find a lot students sitting here for hours thus it isn’t easy to find a seat :P

Compass Coffee: what do users think?

MFPhoto1: Good atmosphere Friendly service. Delicious cakes. Though the coffee is just average, though certainly better than Starbucks. The menu is limited. I would not recommend this place for breakfast, but I would for a mid-day snack break.

Sarah Goolden: i basically live at this coffee shop! the coffee, esp the fun, seasonal drinks, are amazing and my favorite so far in DC. the staff is so friendly. i dont feel like they’re just memorizing names but really getting to know people. whether it’s to study, grab a quick coffee or hangout with friends, this location is so warm and inviting. i could and do stay there for hours.

Kumar Aniket: Place for coffee connoisseurs. They are purist when it comes to coffee. My single origin Papa New Guinea coffee was poured over to perfection. A lovely space with leather couches to sink into and work or meet for a chat. The fish tank with fire in the middle is especially a nice touch.

joyce b: A must if in NW for coffee. My fave location for compass coffee. High quality, dc-roasted coffee beans. Also love their tea lattes. Try the London fog tea latte. Family friendly! - kids area with seating, books, toys. Multiple types of seating - conducive for studying, meetings, catching up with friends Great space! Light filled! Large. Parking - validated (2 hr) parking lot directly behind. Supports using reusable cups.

Vlajko Senic: This is the best place for early morning coffee in DC. Great staff, superb service, charming and comfortable interior

V. K.: I regret going to this coffee shop Compass Coffee this morning Sunday. I oredered 2 Cappuccino drinks. I felt unwelcomed and not inclusive to this world. Tall young guy is a cashier who processed my order that he seems weirdo antipatico type. He asked for my name. I told him my name Van in order to put name on the cups. He did not want to and preferred to write down exact name that is listed on credit card. Also he added CAP on coffee cups based on my appearance what I wore. He could write GLASSES or PURSE or UMBRELLA or SCARF or TAIL on coffee cups who came in to order a coffee drink. Cappuccino taste is smooth milky like anywhere you can get same one. Top surface of the cappuccino drink lacked art and bland. Here is attached photo of the Cappuccino drink what I got. There I got mixed vibes and I will not come back.

Eric Medina: Nice place. First time trying Nitro style coffee, it was good. Comfortable seating in a casual atmosphere.

Gina: So glad that Compass Coffee has opened in Spring Valley. Their coffee is 10x better than Starbucks, and not as expensive. This location also has a nice/cute space.

Bluestone Lane Metro Center Coffee Shop: what do users think?

Liz Deutermann: First visit here! Popped in on my way to a museum and enjoyed a Piccolo. Staff was lovely. Coffee was delicious and hot but not scalding— the manager was training two staff to tell temp of the frothed milk by the feel of the pitcher on the palm and clearly it’s a good method! Appreciated the not-milk options. Great pick-me-up and will definitely be back to try other coffee options because everything looked good. ETA: Found myself in front of the coffee shop on my way back to the Metro and waved through the window. That’s how good a start to my day the coffee was— still smiling and grateful for the good service!

Nancy Hummer: Great Chai! Had a chat with Daniel the manager. What an awesome man. The place is so clean and inviting. Comfortable atmosphere. The employee behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. This will be my go to for coffee or tea from now on.

Ana Maria Ibáñez: I love the order pick up option. While I am in the metro heading to my office, I order a coffee to pick up on my way to the office. My first coffee in the morning is great.

Jung Byun Lau: Refreshing vibe, ample seating, good coffee, kind people ❤️

Mes Hope: The worst and most expensive coffee ever. Thank God for Starbucks.

La Colombe Coffee Roasters: what do users think?

Landis Rojas: This is the best coffee that I ever had! If you are a truly coffee lover, this is the right place for you! A beautiful place to stop by. They have so many coffee choices (Hot or Cold) yogurt, juices & chocolates. I really recommend it

Ido Simyoni: I usually really like la colombe coffee however I don’t think they made it right this time. My oat milk latte was too hot (burnt my tongue) and I am not sure what oat milk they used but it didn’t taste good.

A7med Q: Great place and coffee but they can be better they don’t know about pour over coffee and the options are limited. The sets very bad you need massage after setting here

Jessica Border: The coffee is here great, no doubt. But I went there this morning, sign in door says that it’s open at 7 and the doors were locked, it was about 7:15. I was trying to communicate with the worker inside to ask her what time it would open and she just shrugged her shoulders and didn’t know. I got up early just to grab a coffee on my commute in to work. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Page Graham: Great coffee. Friendly staff. Very clean store.

Joe Darden: Fast fun and friendly service. Great for grab and go place but seating is a little tight. There are some tables on the sidewalk but they don’t have a barrier so you get some street folks up in your business. The coffee here is great. Most people say that in reviews, but let me explain because I have a bit higher requirements when it comes to coffee. They pull proper shots using freshly roasted beans that they roast locally. They use single origins and blends, roasts are light to medium, and they take every beverage they serve you seriously. This is craft coffee. They take care of every aspect from roast to brew to ensure you have the best beverage experience. There are no McDonald-style push button machines and dark over roasted coffee like this national “premium” coffee stores. This place uses actual skills and are true baristas.

Dane Fergusson: Excellent cappuccino and iced coffee! Took the Metro across town just to try this place and it was well worth the trip!

Sandy R: My first time visit here in d.c . I was searching for a good coffee shop. I found this shop. I had a Nice biscotti. It was Crispy and tasty. They also had a sample chocolate biscotti which was good.

Big Bear Cafe: what do users think?

Chelsea Kinsman: Dinging them 2 stars for only providing single-use plastic disposable cups and utensils and another star for the bland and basic “homemade” English muffin breakfast sandwich. Like so many cafes during the pandemic, Big Bear moved in a less sustainable direction which is sad to see and also unacceptable given how much we know about the affect of non-recyclable waste. Big Bear still does not permit dine-in on the bottom level, only outdoor seating and indoor seating upstairs (where the lone bathroom is), though they had blocked off all the seats outside in the sun the day we were there. Would recommend skipping this place in favor of more sustainable cafes until they improve their environmental practices as well as their food on offer.

Andrew Thomas Clifton: It’s one of my absolute GO-TO spaces to hit in DC. The staff is great, the food is simple and also very very great, the only thing I do not like is if you sit outside be ready for lots of flies to be hovering.

stephanie wood: Honestly, not my favorite. The line gets very long and moves slowly. The staff is impatient, rushes you at the counter, and is borderline rude if you have questions. It’s difficult to find a seat and you are not welcome to linger. The vibe is BUSY. Creative Grounds coffee is around the corner and provides a much friendlier atmosphere.

Georgia Craig: Best coffee I’ve had in DC, good milky got chocolate. Good array of baked goods. Could make the food menu clearer as I didn’t realise there was a food menu until I was served. Good bagels. Could improve cleanliness. Very busy. Rather expensive~ $45 for the food in the photo.

Joy R: Inside and outside space as well as a 2nd floor party area . Very cute. Serves coffee and drinks. The double cheeseburger was very good.

Joe Joe: A fast paced grab-n-go or sit down breakfast eatery that has phenomenal staff service and great avocado breakfast burritos. Went two times while visiting in Washington DC and it’s a must!

Craig Pratt: Nice little Cafe were you can sit for hours on your laptop or reading, I did both. Coffee was great ad was the service.

Sankofa Video Books & Café: what do users think?

Mischa: This is a very nice and comfortable cafe with friendly staff, indoor and outdoor seating, and is also a book and video store. The only thing I suggest is getting a recycling bin for the future. Otherwise, all else was good here.

Naj: Great food, very friendly and nice atmosphere, and my drink was great. Definitely will be back, better than my typical Starbucks coffee day. It’s also Black-owned, can’t beat that.

WittyBoi: I knew I had to visit this place and didn’t get a chance to do so for the many trips I took to DC. This time around I made it work; from the moment I stepped in, till I read all I could from all the available books written by or about Black people, till I talked to good people there, grabbed a cool chai latte - an amazing cooler - and had two items of the menu (one vegan one carnivore 😂) and until I said bye - I felt black pride ✊🏾 I felt represented, I felt like I belong, I honestly felt that I needed more of this. It’s very therapeutic and the infotainment is eye opening. Give thanks 🙏🏾 until I come next time either with my own book to put on the shelf or to just grab a coffee - Peace be with you brethren and Sistrens!! ✊🏾

LP: Everything about this place is wonderful. A true community space. Good food, good people, good literature. Worth dropping in JUST for the dirty chai. It’s so good!

Victoria Hardin: I found my place. There was a black owned bookstore (minus the cafe) like this in my hometown when I was growing up. You walk in and feel understood, embraced, and accepted without explanation or word said. The books, pictures, and music. Everything was affirming. It was peaceful. I was peaceful. The food was good, too. The staff kind.

Ludi Fessehaye: My favorite coffee shop in DC! I am a student and sankofa has great food, seating options, and wifi. I can always get work done here or find a book to purchase and read. Got most of my Toni Morrison collection from here and have been recommended other great books I have enjoyed! Definitely come!

Michael Kleven: I went here with my two friends to celebrate my birthday with a nice meal. Food was delicious and the staff was kind and attentive. We didn’t get to check out the book store and events but I’m sure they are great.

Nnamdi Azikiwe: Previously the site of the Omega Psi Phi headquarters. Now the location where it was first observed melanin is worth more than gold in March 2014 due to the insight of Baba Tarik A. Oduno. The Oduno Scale was crafted on this location and gratefully named in his honor.

Timgad Café: what do users think?

Russ Debenport: Great little coffee shop with an intercultural flare. Liked the ice coffee on a record setting hot day in DC. It’s underground near the Metro, so don’t miss it!

Charles M: Timgad Cafe is a local coffee shop with a limited food and pastry offering. They serve Compass coffee (a DC chain) and the pastries and food are in house. The prices are reasonable and the croissant was tasty. There is plenty of seating and the chill vibe is nice. Not a bad stop for coffee, an informal meeting or to work/study.

Faby: Love the vibe. The coffee and got chocolate is great here. It is a little difficult to fin with the gps (I updated the location). Go down the stair and it will be on the right of that semicircle.

Barry Love: Sensational coffee and I love the beef sandwich I have too. I totally recommend this place it was hard to find but worth it.

Kenny Jo: Kind fast customer service. Location is slightly tough to find, but there are small signs guiding you from the Main Street. Pictured medium Carmel latte was as expected 😊

Heather Wilson: best coffee! Such a good flavor it can’t be beat

Tanya Lubkin: Very nice people, convenient location if you are getting your Global Entry card or coming up the Federal Triangle metro. However, my lovely cortado tasted burnt. Such a shame. Breakfast sandwiches are simple and reheated from their fridge, but seem fresh.

Charlotte Slaiman: Most convenient spot to grab a quick breakfast after protesting the racist policies of the customs and border patrol! Pretty good egg & cheese sandwich and cappuccino. Quick and friendly service. 👍 Appreciate their minimal packaging.

Courtyard Cafe: what do users think?

Eric Kloc: Pricey but the nice ambiance is worth it. Napoleon vanilla cake was dense and filling. Chicken sandwiches were a hit with my family.

Bekmyrza Asanbaev: They should update their business hours here. Google maps says they’re open until 7pm. I come to the cafe in person a little before 4, and the cafe is closing already.

John Steuben: Great spot to grab a drink, and enjoy the best indoor spot in DC. Prices are a little high due to the location.

Bola Data: Perfect spot for quiet chat, especially when you want to be outside but the weather is not cooperating. The prices are ridiculous though.

Jonathan: Bad coffee but cool place, literally and as an adjective specifically the courtyard.

John Anderson: The food was great and the service was impeccable the people they are ready crying and courteous specially the management.

Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters: what do users think?

Sahar Bayounis: I love this coffee shop so much. It’s just 1 block away from Pentagon City metro station. ☕️Coffee: I ordered the hot handcrafted latte which was around $4. It was just the coffee I needed. 🏻‍♂️Staff: I wanted to point out how enthusiastic and welcoming the barista was when he took my order. It’s refreshing to finally find good staff at coffee shops who don’t make you stressed out while ordering. 🎶Atmosphere: The music was another thing that stood out for me in this place. They have the most amazing playlist; just the right kind of music to be able to work and study, not too loud, not too quiet. It was also very clean and tidy, unlike many coffee shops where tables are kind of sticky. I took my computer there to study and have a good cup of coffee, and now it’s definitely going to be my go-to place. ♥️

Anicca Hill: Iced cookie butter latte with oat milk is a 10/10! Walked I’m and everyone working there seemed to happy to be there. Such a cute and positive place to start my morning (:

Taylor Rafter: Wonderful coffee shop! Love the decor perfect, for cherry blossom 🌸 season! Saw a drink that had edible cherry blossoms on top! So cute. I got the hazelnut iced latte and hubbs got the nitro brew on tap. The coffee was wonderful! You can even choose your nitro flavor on tap! This place is great!

Jessica Smith: I was overwhelmed with good choices on my first visit so I went with the coco Carmel crunch from the spring seasonal menu. It was a standard. Great place to work for a couple house. Spacious but comfortable. I’ll be back.

Snigdha Agarwal: Super delicious cappuccino. Amazingly refreshing cookie caramel iced drink. Beautiful blending of flavors. Lovely decor. One of the best coffee places!

Randy Moore: Great coffee house with easy access in and out of Bartlett and Whole Foods. If you pass this place you have to stop! Oh yeah, follow their Instagram page and watch the number change in real time! I was number 6707!

K W: Good coffee! I love their iced or hot decaf latte with coconut milk. Equally, the service and atmosphere.

Yuntian Lu: My absolute to-go coffee shop in the neighborhood! I really like their coffee and bought their espresso blend for making coffee myself at home. The coffee was of reasonable price and high quality compared to a lot other coffee shops around DC. The indoor environment was also very clean and bright for hanging out and studying. Only downside might be that their chair is hard surfaced and can be not too comfy if you sit for a long time.

Ben Vance: Been coming here for years. Coffee is great, but the atmosphere of a coffee shop is even better. The cold brew on tap is good. Excellent for the Pentagon City neighborhood.

Bruce Reyes-Chow: Back on the road after over two years and was glad to stumble upon CJCR during a recent trip to DC. The latte was yummy, the staff friendly, and the vibe just bougie enough to feel tended to, but not so much that it felt pretentious. I may have visited three times in three days :-)

Open City at the National Cathedral: what do users think?

Cathy R: Glad Open City is back. Hoping for weekend opening when they can. I had a delicious and healthy beet and arugula salad. One request/suggestion- eliminate or reduce the sugar in the lemon vinaigrette. It tastes like lemonade.

Ria K: Why in the world would you be closed on weekends? When most working people actually have a chance to visit the cathedral? You’d probably get more business over the weekend than the rest of the week combined. This can’t make economic sense plus it’s not very inclusive towards those who have to work regular hours.

Bas Harkink: Great place near the cathedral to grab a coffee and have a sandwich.

Emily Fife: Great cafe with a fun vibe and tasty food! We had the Cubano and Turkey cranberry sandwiches. Our kids had a grilled cheese. They were tasty, especially the Turkey sandwich. The lavender hot cocoa was fun to try. There were many more tempting items on the menu too! We enjoyed the friendly staff and stash of board games for kids.

Suji Mao: It a nice little cafe to grab brunch after the 11:15 Sunday service. They have lattes, soups, waffles, salads, and club sandwiches. There is a good amount of seating and people are friendly which is an added bonus. There is a garden close by to just incase you want to sit outside and reminisce as you eat.

mary powell: this place is so cute, and breakfast was tasty with delicious drinks. service was fast as well.

Martha Wilson: Please, please reopen soon, Open City! I used to come here all the time and really miss it. Great food, great service, amazing location. Please come back!

vinphill Seung Phill Lim: Classic apple pie, waffle and icecream are wonderful. Open city at the national cathedral church.
