And they did it while we were absent; living and working in Africa. We followed their lead as they represented us getting building permits from the DC government. As 4 Brothers developed floorplans we received clear drawings and options to choose from via Internet and worked with them to fine tune the plan. As it came time to select materials we had a few preferences that 4 Brothers acted upon and in other cases, 4 Brothers provided us good options from which to choose. Communications flowed extremely well between DC and Africa. Throughout the project we trusted their recommendations on layout, materials, changes, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, flooring and a significant soundproofing effort. We were thrilled with the results. With Alfred as lead on construction, Tamar overseeing details of interior finishes and Ben as our interface, 4 Brothers employees and teams of high quality sub-contractors worked with small spaces, difficult access, challenging aspects of the original building design, and even cranky neighbors, to ensure that our condo would be ready for occupancy when we returned from Africa. As we worked together by email and phone calls to make final decisions on infrastructure and finishing, and to accommodate our desire for some unique features such as an acacia wood bar that we shipped from Africa (a later challenge for Alfred and Phil to install). 4 Brothers excellent design and craftsmanship was accompanied by good documentation, honest assessments, and cost estimates that did not grow. Lucas Fischer: We hired Landis to do a full renovation of our house. They were able to provide with a wonderful finished product in just 6 months, everything from our driveway to our attic was renovated on some level. We added a new kitchen and master bedroom and the whole thing is beautiful - the kitchen of my dreams! David helped us remodel our kitchen and 3 baths a few years ago, and now we call him and CASE whenever we have other projects around the house, even small ones. David has amazing design ideas which have helped us increase the functionality of the tight spaces in our house. I would highly recommend working with CASE, and in particular with David.

John Weiss: We spent a few years thinking about renovating two full baths and a powder room in our 100-year old house but did nothing until we finally decided that Case Design was the company we wanted to work with and initiated the project in early 2019. Two things became apparent as we progressed through the detailed design stage and then on to construction. One was the professionalism and competence of the Case people involved and the other was the pleasantness of working with them in their offices and in our home. Mike O’Hearn and Melissa Binderman, the Project Developer and Designer, were knowledgeable and experienced in presenting ideas, reacting to our desires, and executing a final plan. Their patience as we sometimes changed our minds about decisions that had been previously made was appreciated, as was their willingness to keep modifying what we wanted based on seeing results in our house rather than in a showroom. Loren Sanders, the Project Manager has been attentive and thorough in keeping us posted on the construction process and schedule. The star of the show, however, is Bill Shaw, who has done most of the construction work. Not only is what he does of the highest professional quality, he has been in our house steadily for two months and instead of an imposition, it has been a pleasurable experience. He explains everything he is doing and gives us the opportunity to customize items like where towel racks go and what height the shower should be. One of the prime benefits for us of this project turned out to be not the new, modern appliances updating our old baths, but the underneath replacement of floors, ceilings, walls, water pipes, insulation, and electric wiring. We’ve essentially rebuilt a major portion of our house. In doing major construction alteration, Case took great care in eliminating dust using suction machines and in protecting the parts of the house outside the renovation area. We bought a room air scrubber for our bedroom as a precaution. It indicates when the air is bad, and it has almost never found anything other than clean air. We highly recommend Case for home renovation projects.

Rachel Krantz-Kent: We are so pleased with the work Keil Construction did for us on our recent renovation, and we are thoroughly enjoying the results. Jeff Keil’s crew converted what had been a kitchen/half-bath/laundry space into a beautiful kitchen, renovated a bathroom, built stairs that reconnected our basement (that they renovated) to the main part of the house, moved our laundry, and more. Keil’s crew was incredibly responsive to our needs and concerns, and worked with us to ensure the results aligned with our vision for the space. After demolition was completed, we met weekly with Jeff and our project manager to walk through the work area, discuss progress, and plan next steps. For example, when we were concerned about the placement of a window and how cabinets would obstruct its light in our renovated kitchen, Jeff had his crew shift it. Jeff has years of experience working on old homes, and this was evident from our conversations and work with him. He also has an appreciation for the character of old homes, and salvages and re-purposes elements when he can. When there was a need for flooring to match our 100+ year-old wooden floorboards, Jeff had it. When we needed a new steam radiator that would match others in the house, Jeff had it. When an exterior door needed replacement, Jeff suggested we remove the transom above it and install a taller door with a glass pane. He also suggested that we retain the look of old, patchy paint on a newly-exposed brick wall in our basement. Both of these suggestions were not something we would have considered on our own, but the taller door looks stunning, and the partially-painted exposed brick has so much character. Having been in the business for many years, Jeff has connections with excellent appliance, cabinet, and other vendors. He helped connect us with them, and his crew worked directly with these vendors to coordinate and handle the deliveries. And at no point did we feel that Jeff was throwing our business to cronies in order to gouge us on costs. We highly recommend working with Keil Construction. As one would expect on any major project, it took longer than we’d hoped, but overall we were happy with Jeff Keil’s desire to make sure we were satisfied, and the work his team did on this project. We plan to hire his team again for other projects.

Rex Hung: Bonn Group America is a family-operated company I hired to replace a very old concrete deck attached to my DC rowhouse. The project manager and primary point of contact, McBonn, is very responsive and attentive, and a pleasure to work with. His father provides design background for the team. Over the days leading to and during the project, McBonn was very communicative and gave daily updates. Prior to beginning work he was able to provide very detailed itemized quotes for construction. The quality of the work is excellent and the team was efficient, keeping to schedule minus unavoidable delays due to inclement weather. Every remodeling project has its hiccups and when I encountered one it was swiftly rectified. The pricing was neither the most nor the least expensive of the groups I interviewed. Overall I am very pleased with the work and communication, and would use their services again.
