Scott Polikov: Tried to talk to a partner twice at DC Automotive conference June 17 and twice turned away by event staff that it was a private event. I just happened to be staying at the Ritz on business in DC related to investing in transportation sector and had no idea aBout this practice focus of the firm. I am in the transportation and infrastructure development sector and thought a discussion with firm might lead to support for our focus area and potential new business for firm. HL might encourage event company handling conferences to be a bit more responsive to potential business opportunities when someone walks up that did not know about event in terms of business development

E A: I had hoped to work with this Firm for years regarding my employment issue. I read their website thoroughly. It seemed they would understand my case and, more importantly, that they actually cared about situations like mine. This past week, I reached out twice to this Firm and didn't even get the courtesy of a response. I was so serious about this that I was going to immediately pay for and schedule a legal consultation with one of their partners. No free, limited consultation with an associate or intake with a paralegal. I needed counsel, insight, advice from an expert I trusted and I could finally afford to pay for it. I can't even express how disheartened and disappointed I am right now. Needless to say, I don't want to hear word one from this Firm anymore.

April Kissel: I am unhappy with my current representation, and asked another attorney, who had formerly represented me, for assistance in choosing another one. He recommended KCNF. I dialed the phone number he provided, and received an automated message, instructing me only to leave a message for extension 43. This was at 3:00 pm on a Monday. I decided to try again, and the second time reached a person. She had a heavy accent (which in and of itself is not something to hold against someone), and didn't behave as though she works for a law firm. She seemed unsure of how to proceed as I explained my issue. She decided to laboriously record my name, phone number and other demographics. I could tell she was handwriting my information. She did explain that an intake specialist would contact me. Later, an intake specialist, Chris, did call me, at 4:30 pm, saying he had "one more question" for me. He wanted to know more about my issue, which I explained. His response was: "So you just have some questions about your case?" I didn't have questions. I wanted representation. I explained that I was unhappy with current counsel. Chris promised that someone would call me "today." At 4:53 pm I did receive an email (not a phone call), from Elisabeth Baker-Pham, asking for a good time to speak. Ms. Baker-Pham's email bears no signature, leaving me with no way to determine her role within KCNF (unless she is listed at the website). I have worked as a receptionist at law firms, and am always scrutinized for how professionally I treat clients, potential clients and staff. It is surprising that these three folks can get away with their shoddy performance.

Rachael C: Services were very expensive with no results. The attorney asked that I write out a timeline detailing my experiences so we can start with a demand letter. With no guideline I wrote several pages of everything I could remember whether it may be relevant or not. All the attorney did was take my poorly written outline and add some legal wording and bill me for 10 hours. It probably took no more than two. Months went by until I finally asked about the status and that’s when she decided to follow up. She never did a thing unless I specifically asked. She never gave me a single bit of legal advice. My filing with EEOC was denied and I truly believe it’s because the filing with the EEOC was my poorly written timeline with legal wording added by the attorney. When I decided to file a law suit against my former employer, they wanted a $35k retainer. I had no choice but to find a new lawyer which I was happy to do since I felt like I already wasted a lot of money for “do it yourself” legal service. When I explained that I was looking for another attorney the attorney at KCNF offered to look over my file and let me know the strong points and the weak ones and give her advice for another $1200-1600!! I thought that’s what I was already paying her to do. I feel I was scammed. The new attorney I found was night and day. At the new firm I actually received advice and attention I should have received from the beginning. This firm was a complete wast of money because they did absolutely nothing.
Response: We have never represented anyone by this name, but based on the description, we believe we know who the true author is. I am very sorry she felt she did not receive adequate service for her money. We did ask her to prepare a timeline so we could better understand what occurred and because she indicated she was concerned about the cost of litigation. Whenever a client expresses concern about cost, we try to involve them as much as possible to mitigate the costs. Had she expressed a concern about doing this, we would have taken a different approach. We also assume full responsibility for the unfortunate decision to temporarily reassign her case to another attorney. The workload of the firm is extremely high and though we have hired additional attorneys, at that time they had not started yet. We wanted to make sure the client was receiving sufficient attention, and thought this was the best course of action under those circumstances. Clearly it was not, and we regret the impact this had on her.

Clara Osborne: After going to two big DC law firms that turned down my case (charged for the consultations, but I did get a free book), I found the firm of Kalijarvi, Chuzi, Newman & Fitch, P.C. After meeting with Attorney Nina Ren in 2014, she quickly accepted and started working on my EEO complaints against one of the largest federal agencies. Ms. Ren was outstandingly communicative and kept me updated. I always felt as if I was the most important case she had. One of the toughest things was going through mountains of paperwork/emails and putting everything in a timeline to show how things played out. The deposition was no fun, but Ms. Ren kept everything organized. When all of the paperwork was sorted out, she did a great job responding to each of the agencies allegations by using supporting documentation. One other thing that was helpful was when I reached my retainer limit, the firm worked with me on a payment plan. Now after almost five years, we are almost at the end of this long ordeal. I wish I could tell you more, but since we have agreed to a global settlement, I am not in a position to provide further details. Atlanta Georgia: The Federal Practice Group (led by Attorney Thompson) is an excellent firm. Attorney Thompson and her team supported our family through a very emotional legal matter. She was available. She listened. She wrote extraordinarily detailed compelling legal briefs. She and her team are tenacious in evaluating the and executing on the best legal strategies. Miles Hawthorne: Mr. Montalvo a founding partner, cares about his client's experience and is polite and considerate. If you are a veteran and need a service record correction I would ask you to at least consider the firm. I was disappointed in the outcome of my board of military corrections case which resulted in the deduction of one star. For any government civilian employment issues I can't recommend the firm as highly. My attorney was very polite and worked hard on my case. However, her supervisor, Ms. Friedman was another experience entirely. Ms. Friedman, a supervisingy attorney, is rude and condescending. Ms. Friedman talks over and is frequently unavailable to clients. For that reason I deducted a star. I would ask that you at least consider the firm overall because one person's behavior should not affect the entire firm's professional assessment. You should be aware that you are paying for a large prestige firm which is expensive and may assign your case to junior attorneys that might not be worth the cost considering their ability, and consider value in making a decision.

Private Private: Joanna Friedman and the Federal Practice Group, thank you for helping out even the little, tinny workers within the Federal Government. Another entity pointed out how rare it was to come to a resolution so swiftly, which I give credit to Ms. Friedman's representation. Moved to a new town, got a basic job with the Federal Government and then COVID hit. After noticing unethical practices, I documented, emailed and called for help by following the rules and eventually was fired. Jennifer Ramsey: DC Number and Address, Yet Don't Work There There is no reason to have an office address and phone number that are only for Washington, DC. I could forgive that, but the person who answered my call hung up on me as soon as I said I was from DC. He didn't say anything more than "We do not take calls that will be from that area," and then I heard the dial tone. If that is what you get from people who have the job of speaking with people, I can only imagine how bad the lawyers are.
William Clyburn Jr.: Working with Mr. Stein has been an amazing experience! I hired him to represent my family in a very contentious child custody case and he met EVERY one of my expectations. His thoroughness and professionalism are unmatched in the court room and his experience with the legal system are always on display! I would highly recommend Mr. Stein to ANYONE with legal matters that seem too tough to tackle. He’s very thoughtful and deliberate in explaining legal matters which will instill confidence and calmness in any client he represent. I initially approached an attorney in that state who did not handle the case very well.
