International Language Institute: what do users think?
keith o'connor
keith o'connor: We went though Caribou for our refinancing and our experience was great thanks to Daniel Schoonmaker! He was very helpful and kept us updated on our status through email, text, and phone calls. If we had any questions he would get back to us fast with answers. He was awesome!
C D
C D: I did not get the level of instruction I expected. While my instructor was a nice person, I expected the beginner class to build vocabulary and grammar, however we rapidly advanced beyond the basics. When discussing the class with a fellow student, he said he was having difficulty and he studied the same language in college. Ultimately, the final day of class came and only myself and another student showed up for the “final.” When I requested I discount to repeat the beginner course, I was told there are no refunds or discounts. I understand we are still working in Covid limitations and business isn’t quite what it was beforehand, but providing subpar instruction and effectively telling me to “deal with it”, is bad business. The instructor even told us the faculty told them to slow down, so they were aware it wasn’t proceeding effectively. I’ll be continuing my instruction with another provider.
Monir Salim
Monir Salim: I like the school very much. All of the teachers are very knowledgeable, friendly and cooperative. The educational environment for the international student is very positive. I miss my teachers. Jim & Jena are very good instructor for TOEFL preparation class. Bethany, Bonnie, Jennifer and Cloudia are also so good in the school management.
Romain Devaux
Romain Devaux: I would not recommend Hindi classes. The teacher is really nice but is just not a teacher (and I am a language teacher, I can tell). No instructive approach, no teaching material but her book she followed to the letter. She kept distressing, reading chapters after chapters without taking the time to let us actually use the language. My advise - ask for a trial course to get to know the teacher before making any commitment to that school.
Leslie Shah
Leslie Shah: I really liked the International Language Institute (ILI). ILI has clear rules and expectations of teachers, staff, and students. There is a high degree of client customer service, respect and trust. ILI wants and works for student success. They offer and do as they so they do. Testing and Assessment are routine and part of progression.
Chaleeya Sri-intaranan
Chaleeya Sri-intaranan: I had an appointment there to meet with the director name Fredrick! I really want to go to school but I have my visa situation (change of status) especially curently visa situation in the immigration is really bad and take so long. (But I have a Lawer on my side) Anyway, the way he looked at me and talked to me like I’m fresh from the boat!! And he said I’m just trying to get the visa just for staying in America !!! Not for studying!!!!!!!! I can’t believe that I heard that word from a school director!!! That’s unprofessional, but now I got acceptance from the other schools already. I definitely not recommend this school !! They should have talked to applicants better more polite and more Professional!!!
Response: I'm very sorry to hear that you feel like you were not treated fairly and professionally. That was certainly not my intention. As I explained to you when we had our meeting, your case is very complicated. Not only were you already here in the U.S. as an au-pair for two years, but you also have two B1/B2 visitor change of status applications pending for almost a full year. If you now file change of status application to be an F1 student you would have to file another B1/B2 extension application without even having a decision on your pending applications. I'm not an immigration attorney, but I'm not sure this is even possible. We have never had a case like this in my 16 years as director of ILI. As I also explained to you, if you want to be a student it would be a lot easier and quicker to travel back to your country and apply for the student visa from there. It is currently taking about one year to get a response on change of status applications. However, you stated you really wanted to stay here and wait another year to begin your studies if approved. I respectfully informed you that we are unfortunately not willing to accept your application due to the complicated nature of it, but you insisted that we should still help you. I wish you the best with your application and future plans of being a student in the U.S.

International Center For Language Studies: what do users think?
Teacher Jessie Foreign Language Instructor.
Teacher Jessie Foreign Language Instructor.: As a student and also as a former teacher I can say that ICLS exceed your expectations. Great resources, well trained and experienced teachers from different backgrounds. ICLS cares about their teachers and students. It was a wonderful experience not only to work there but also take some French lessons.
Tatyana Ariyevich
Tatyana Ariyevich: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityI took 2 tests with ICLS. The staff was professional yet friendly, and the testing process was well-organized. The instructions for both tests were clear and sent ahead of time. I received my test results in an hour. I would highly recommend ICLS for language testing.
Veronika Jerdetski
Veronika Jerdetski: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueI really enjoyed my French evening group class w Philippe! I gained a lot of knowledge about grammar & the class was heavily focused on improving students’ speaking ability. The value I got from my studies is certainly worth the (very reasonable) tuition. Thank you!
Brigid O'Donnell
Brigid O'Donnell: I took an evening foreign language here. Classes are engaging and teachers are knowledgeable. The curriculum is rigorous but manageable for busy people. 5/5 experience, would recommend.
Driss Bernoussi
Driss Bernoussi: I took the Spanish evening group class for beginners and it was an amazing experience. This is much different than learning a language in high school or college, which was much more boring for me. At ICLS, they get you speaking Spanish from the beginning, and its highly interactive style helps you become comfortable with your classmates. My teacher, Astrid, was fantastic. Our class became so close that by the end we went out for a dinner on our last class and practiced ordering in Spanish. I highly recommend to any language learner in the DC area that is looking to take a class after work. It meets twice a week so it is perfectly manageable for my busy schedule.
Response: Thank you, Driss! We are glad that you found our teaching methodology to be helpful to your learning process.

Hubert Pierre
Hubert Pierre: The affordable language lessons offered by the GLN uplift both students and teachers while making both learning and teaching fun. Moreover, the confidence that the used approach builds in students whether to improve at work, in their relationships, or to carry out missions overseas using learned foreign language is priceless. Such a wonderful network started within the classroom with observable major impact.
Michael Katz
Michael Katz: I heard about this organization from a friend, saw the incredible reviews, and immediately fell in love with the mission and the work of GLN. Hats off to founder Andrew Brown and the team. I reached out and Andrew was very responsive and helpful. I love the diversity at GLN too!
Mark Maier
Mark Maier: Great place for college students to gain work experience. Kind and professional staff, great location, many valuable skills to learn, and so much more. The bonds you build here will last a long time.
Emily Koenig
Emily Koenig: I really enjoyed my Arabic class at GLN. While the course was online because of COVID, I still managed to learn a lot and keep up my arabic skills! My teacher Sinan was great! and the whole class really came together to make the experience even more enjoyable. Looking forward to taking a class in person as soon as possible!

International School of Languages: what do users think?
John Wood
John Wood: As a current student I can say I am a huge fan of ISL for many reasons. I have been taking Portuguese there online with a fantastic professor and support staff and am having a lot of fun learning the language. When I visited Brazil my inlaws / family / friends all were asking me how I had improved so much recently and I told them about my classes at ISL. They told me I must have a good teacher and I said I definitely do. Other benefits include the flexibility of online classes and the the very affordable cost. Overall I am extremely happy with ISL and am excited I am finally on my way to becoming bilingual.
Response: Thank you so much John for your nice review! It is great that your Portuguese classes are going well with Rosangela and that you have accomplished so much. We are very happy to have you as a student!

Mentora College - Washington, D.C.: what do users think?
Linh Truong
Linh Truong: Mentora College is totally the best place in DC to study ESL. Tuition is better than other ESL schools in the area and during COVID, they provide student housing to students and even gave a discount so everyone can afford it and continue attending classes online from the dorm. The teachers and administration clearly care about their students, and they are attentive and really listen if there is any issues.
Alex Roset
Alex Roset: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueMentora College is highly recommended. Small classes, very affordable prices, several class schedules, excellent location half a block from a metro station, and upscale facilities. More importantly, a very qualified team of experienced English-speaker teachers.
C Hstreet
C Hstreet: The students, the two supervisors, and fellow teachers are amazing. It is a diverse group of people. The three stars are for the these people. However, the lower review is due to the higher administration. The environment is toxic to work in and the chances for advancement are not present. Writing this review will probably result in a search to figure out who did it and result in punishment by the higher management. This is why it is being posted with an alternative username. People are worried about keeping their job and say "yes" to the higher administration. This has caused a lack of any change to occur to make the school better for the staff.
Koray Bintas
Koray Bintas: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueGreat place to work and study! The school provides scholarships not only to its students, but also their employees so that they could continue their their professional development while working. Fantastic location in the heart of D.C!
Response: Thanks Koray!
Mustafa Aktaş
Mustafa Aktaş: If you think about studying ESL in DC, this school is the best option. They have modernized classrooms, the library and the computer lab are very convenient to spend time. They have ESL and American Experience classes which are giving you chance to choose the days you want to go to school. You also have different teacher every session. I had an amazing experience and really loved the location!
nutthaphat champasak
nutthaphat champasak: I used to study in Mentora college 3 months. In my opinion, this school is good but not all. i like teachers in this school because they are friendly and informally. On the other hand, i do not like the tuition process that you have to pay before you want to take vacation or transfer to other school.
Tiptunya Kampim
Tiptunya Kampim: Mentora College is a good international school that I have learned in USA. There are a lot of fieldtrips and activities. I have many good teachers and cute friends. My best teacher that I have studied with is Mr. Brian Murphy. He always took care students and helped students when we had some problems of learning in the class. He taught very well and applied many games and activities that is easy to remeber the words in many lessons. He is active and creative. I met him in the first time of ESL class. He made me like learning English and start intending to study English. I love ESL class so much because I can know how to write good essay and how to speak or presentation in front of many people and we always practiced to learn English so I can use English in routines very well and this school is my best for me.

DC Internationals MESALI: what do users think?
Christina U
Christina U: I just completed a private Arabic course with DC Internationals MESALI instructors Nadia and Abdou. It was excellent! I really liked how the instructors worked with me to find course materials that interested me. I felt much more confident about speaking in Arabic after this class.
David Bartley
David Bartley: I required to maintain proficiency in a language for my work and MESALI is an excellent school to maintain and improve language skills. I took two classes at MESALI over a two year time period and I was able to improve my listening and reading comprehension significantly. I started the first class at a level below meeting standards for my occupation and by the time I finished the second course, I was far exceeding requirements. The school offered various, flexible class options, which was helpful in working around my work and family schedule, and my teacher was excellent. I would highly recommend this school.
Jessica Falkner
Jessica Falkner: MESALI classes are top notch. As a student in the beginner Arabic class, I was impressed when my classmates and I were able to read words in script within a few classes while learning a significant amount of vocabulary and constructing sentences at a rapid pace. The classes include quality instruction and are extremely effective at improving language skills quickly. The classes are small and very personalized to the students as well, which has created a fun, productive, and creative learning environment. I highly recommend, sukran MESALI!
Jackson Wright
Jackson Wright: During my time studying Modern Standard Arabic at DC Internationals MESALI, I have learned so much, in such a short amount of time. Starting from scratch, I participated in the 120 hour Summer Critical Languages Institute, and in another 120 hour course during the Fall semester because I saw so much concrete tangible results. In comparison to other language classes I have participated in, MESALI is unique, in that, its professors provide different teaching methods that make it easier for the student to learn. For example, professors would provide memory tools and reveal patterns that would make it easier for the student to apply while learning the language. At MESALI, the professors are knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. At no time have I felt that the training was sub-par. I strongly recommend MESALI for any person who is looking to learn a new language, or enhance a language they currently possess as the professors are flexible and accommodating at all levels. With the help of MESALI, I feel confident in the training I am receiving that I will be able to use it as I progress in my career.
Jawwad Ahmad
Jawwad Ahmad: I had the pleasure of taking the Arabic 1 Standard course with Mesali. I was very hesitant to sign up and commit to a language course on top of my busy work and personal schedule, but am very glad that I did. The instructor was pleasant, knowledgeable, and surprisingly funny! The small class size and engaging teaching style helped keep everyone focused. It gets pretty tiring to sit through a class after working from 9-5, but these classes were a great time. Time and money well spent!
Jonathan Rose
Jonathan Rose: I found my Arabic class here through reviews, and the results surpassed my expectations. The classes got my Arabic off the ground, and I am continuing with them to keep advancing. We also developed a camaraderie among the students that kept morale up when classes went late. I highly recommend the Arabic classes here.

Alliance Française: what do users think?
roberta weinman
roberta weinman: I recently took three courses through this Alliance and finished the last one at B2.1. I have had many classes through other Alliances and was very disappointed with the quality and pace of the instruction. It seemed as though we were rushing through the book and exercises without the time to truly absorb what we were supposed to learn. We were often cut off when asking questions or making comments, so that the instructor could quickly go to the next section of the book. Learning should be enjoyable, as well as informative. This particular class was neither, especially compared with my other experiences. (Note: The Everyday French class was very good and completely different in tone and pace, with this instructor attuned to the needs of his students.) I am also appalled at the way I was treated by the administration when I made an attempt to talk about my experience with the instructor of the B-level classes. Sarah Diligenti, especially, is arrogant and dismissive and really does not want to hear about any negative experiences. The administration simply does not care. I would encourage potential students to stay away from this Alliance.
Melanie La Force
Melanie La Force: Positive: ProfessionalismThe staff are always willing to help. The teachers are awesome. I succeeded at getting my DALF C1. This was a tough exam and the prep was great.
Bonnie Beavers
Bonnie Beavers: Bassima was my teacher for my class (level 104.A.2), which for me was the first French classroom experience since university days 40 years ago. I enjoyed it enormously and will sign up again. We spoke French the entire time, and the materials were very helpful & well-organized. French immersion schools abroad know about Alliance and respect their teaching.
JC Kollmorgen
JC Kollmorgen: Membership and the cost of classes are pretty steep altogether. However, the quality of teaching is good. Much better than taking a class at USA Graduate School, for examples. Their library is also fantastic. You can borrow books, DVDs, and audio. I only wish they had more higher level class offerings at their Penn Quarter location as it would be more convenient for me.
Brittany Roth
Brittany Roth: I took the A101 course at Alliance Francaise this last October and the professor spoke in English more than half of the time and the class moved very slowly, which is all fine given we are all complete beginners. She was very nice and made sure the students were understanding all the topics. I then signed up for this A102 class and the teacher spoke nearly 100% of the time in French and moved through new material very quickly. He explained all new concepts in French and did not always make sure that what he was explaining was understood. The A101 class that I took absolutely did not prepare me for the A102 class. The professor used words and phrases that were never previously covered. Also, if you did not understand right away he would become very impatient. One time I said I did not understand something and he said scoffed and asked why? He did similar things with other students. His behavior was very upsetting and often times caused me to get frustrated and want to give up. I finished this course very unhappy. On top of my frustrations with the teacher, I never received my results for the end of the session test. This past week I moved to France and want to enroll in the Alliance Francaise program in Toulouse and having my test results would have been great in order to help place me in a course here.
Charlotte Dadzie
Charlotte Dadzie: I think the class I took helped me improve my language skills a little, I did not like the fact that the teacher I had did not say anything when students were laughed at when they made a mistake. I mean We learn together, we shouldn’t laugh at people when they make a mistake, we should instead help them.
joseph Thompson
joseph Thompson: Wissam is a great French teacher. I took several classes with him and would highly recommend.

French Academy DC: what do users think?
Shelby Servais
Shelby Servais: I took Survival 1. The instructor was great, the class size was small, and the material covered French basics. I had absolutely zero knowledge of the language and now I can manage ordering croissants, giving directions, simple introductions, and a few other essentials. If you look at the cost/hour, it is also really affordable.
Azahara Padron
Azahara Padron: I just finished "Conversation and Grammar A2" workshop and I really enjoyed the online classes. The pacing of the classes is great for adults, the teacher made sure every student felt involved and understood...I highly recommend them.
Sanjana Mukherjee
Sanjana Mukherjee: I took an introduction to French workshop course for 5 weeks from April to May 2020. My instructor was excellent and very encouraging. We were provided with worksheets and exercises to practice. I was part of a group class and learning with the other students was very enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Kathryn Autrey
Kathryn Autrey: I attended a survival one at French Academy in Farragut. I was very happy with how it went, I liked the small group work done in the class which allowed for more one on one attention with the teacher. It let me really gain a better understanding for corrections that needed to be made helping me improve. Overall it was a great experience.
Response: Thank you Kathryn for sharing your impressions about your beginner class. Hope to see you soon in the Survival 2.
Michelle Tafur
Michelle Tafur: I had an important test to pass and a short timeline in which to prepare. I emailed on a Thursday or Friday and had my first lesson on Monday. I worked with Natacha. She was super helpful, very patient and took her time with me to guide me through everything I needed to understand. I passed the test with flying colors and I have so much thanks to Natacha and the academy for their help.
Claire Lavergne
Claire Lavergne: This was honestly a great opportunity for learning French. I took a conversation class and the topics were interesting and useful. The teacher listened to us and helped us along and was able to be flexible about our requests. I will say though that the classroom was kinda small...
Jennifer Matel
Jennifer Matel: I enjoyed the online lunch hour class for beginners. The instructor was engaging, motivated, and very patient. I’m now even more motivated to continue learning.

The Italian Cultural Society of Washington D.C.: what do users think?
Helena Tang
Helena Tang: I have been taking classes at the Italian Language Program for over 7 years and have had a wonderful experience. The Program is well-run, the facilities are nice, and the atmosphere is friendly. What I appreciate most is my teacher, Cristiana Fabiani, with whom I have had classes for the entire 7+ years, starting from the Beginning level (I literally started with zero knowledge of Italian) to now where we are reading books (including one by an Italian Nobel Prize winner). Cristiana is a great teacher; she is very patient and encouraging, and has the best classroom management skills. She tries to ensure that everyone in the class has a chance to speak, and encourages those who are reticent to speak up. Thanks to Cristiana, not only am I reading Italian literature (it is still a lot of work for me!) but I have gained enough listening comprehension and speaking skills that I feel I can function in Italian (with mistakes and gaps in vocabulary, of course). All in all, the Italian Language Program has really worked well for me and I fully recommend it!
Francisca Helmer
