My sales associate, Jordanna, assisted me and stayed in communication with me from day one (appreciate that). She also was helpful in selecting an accomodating fabric (shade novice I am). And lastly, my installer, Nicholas, was great. On time, considerate of my home (mask and booties) and went beyond the call of duty to make sure I was pleased. Saving up for maybe another room.

Monica Weeks: Leo is the absolute best. Everyone in the store was helpful and kind but Leo was the associate assigned to my project and he was so helpful and prompt in replying. The Shade Store is a beautiful store and I loved the layout. It was easy to feel and see the products and installation was easy to schedule and do. I waited until I’d gone through the whole process before writing a review. I have to say I’ve been very happy with this experience. To be honest I did find a couple quotes less than the shade store but the ease of going in a convenient location in dc and their customer service was totally worth paying a little more. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to place my second order!

Ed Wood: I wish I could give them 0 stars. I ordered 5 fabric Roman shades and all 5 were incorrect when they were installed. They remeasured and replaced them for free, but all 5 if the replacements were also incorrect (in different ways from the first set). They remeasured and sent a third set which were still incorrect (again, in different ways from the first two orders). This has all taken over 5 months. Getting a refund and going to another company. Update: they gave me a partial refund and the only communication I have received is the response below. Jacklyn was not "in touch", I just received an email with the partial credit amount and no explanation. At these prices they should have better customer service and quality control.

Rex G: It’s great to find good options, better to find so many great options in one place and even better to find them so nicely displayed with samples to take home with you. But it’s Casey C that makes shopping at the shade store THE BEST! Her delightful energy through the entire process of selection, measuring and ordering always made me smile. When there was an issue with my initial selection after the measurement appointment, she didn’t hesitate to call me to work through some alternate options that wouldn’t get caught on my doorknob. Her attention to detail and patience quoting a few different combinations led to an even better result in the end. When the solar shade and xl blinds came in, it was clear that The Shade Store takes pride in what they do- the materials and construction are nicer and the installation was easier than any other window treatment I’ve installed. They may cost more than the competition, but you definitely get what you pay for in this case. Top notch customer service from Casey and beautiful, well made products both mean that I’ll be back for more!

Jeannine Alter: This company is fantastic. We had our H&D roller blinds installed five years ago, and they are beautiful and have made our apartment lovely. This week, I needed to have two of the blinds removed because we were having new windows installed. I called Mike, the owner of Window Wears, for advice as to how to uninstall the blinds. He was great over the phone and took me through a step-by-step process on how to do it. I had one glitch, however, with a stubborn blind that would not pop out, so he came over to my apartment and did it himself! It was definitely above and beyond and the very reason why we use local businesses like this one. Many thanks, Mike.

Margo S: Prompt. Easy. Not intimidating or pressuring. Roslyn is friendly, but all business. She carries a HUGE selection of materials and brands and styles. She is knowledge, but doesn’t tell you what would look good, rather she provides suggestions based on the needs and preferences you give her, and then modifies the suggestions based on your reactions to her initial suggestions, and she tells you if something might not work as well and why, all of which worked well for me. Timely appointments. Installation was quick, and clean. Prices are average.

Brandon Hoffman: I contacted Budget Blinds after learning that a company we previously used had went out of business. Luckily, the Budget Blinds team was very responsive to my inquiry to install new blinds in my DC home. The appointment was confirmed and a calendar invite with all the details was kindly sent to me for the scheduled evaluation with Roslyn. I received a reminder the day before our meeting as well, and Roslyn was a joy to work with. She expertly measured all spaces and provided me with a detailed list of materials and finishes. Roslyn made quick work of the job, and we were both on our way less than 30 minutes later. The company sent me a formal written quote the next day, and we immediately knew the prices were very reasonable. We contracted them a day later and manufacturing took exactly three weeks to complete. Eric came to install the new blinds, and I was happily surprised by the quality of materials and magnetic fasteners. He also made quick work of the installs and completed each in just a few minutes. Before I knew it, he was done and I was admiring the craftsmanship and install. I couldn’t be happier! Thanks, Budget Blinds. We’ll certainly use you again.

The solar roller shades, with the most transparency, are fantastic for all windows; we can look out and have a lot of privacy. We also have Roman shades in the bedrooms. Brent Robertson: Incompetence from start to finish. Scheduled a measurement from 8-10AM on a workday. No show. No call. No follow up. Just two hours of my time wasted. I had to call corporate line where I was “helped” by a gentleman who offered little-to-no apology. Verbatim quote - “Yeah, so, I called the store and they said there was, a uh, issue that uh, came up. Sorry.” Shade Store? More like...Nothing Store.

Stacy Lemery: Having a West Elm accessible to bus and metro lines is great for residents of the DC area. There is always lots more online, but being able to see the quality of bedding, furniture, etc in person makes a big difference. I have purchased a bed, bedding, hallway shelving, a shoe rack, curtains, candle holders, and other decor from West Elm.

Eric Overton: Staff at this store were basically useless and didn’t seem to know much about the products for sale. Fortunately, I was only there to test a floor model before buying online. Shipping was fast with only two weeks between purchase and delivery. Delivery dudes were both prompt and chill.

Geneva: I was wary of buying from this store based on some of the reviews here; however, after a year of searching for the right sectional, I found the perfect one for me at West Elm. I received good service from the store. The sales person was very clear that my sectional - which I bought in November for a nice discount - would not arrive until early January. As promised, I got calls and emails from the delivery department the second week of January and was able to schedule a date that worked for me. The two delivery guys were amazing - they had to maneuver their big truck down a narrow alley to get to the loading dock. They were professional and efficient and out of my apartment in less than 15 minutes. The sectional is exactly what I wanted and so comfortable.

Annapurna Mitra: The worst delivery experience I have encountered. I ordered a dining table and four chairs, with in-home delivery. The chairs were sent via UPS, not assembled, and with no explanation despite paying $250 for in-home delivery. I live alone, and there are 7 pages of assembly instructions requiring two people. I have no way of doing this, and am left with a living room like a furniture warehouse. On the other hand, the dining table, which was ready 10 days ago, and I had asked the customer service to wait and schedule an appointment for all items together is yet to arrive. I cannot find a way to schedule anything on the website, and on the phone I can not find a way to talk to a human being. I have received no response to my email. If I could give zero stars I would.

Pete Forcelli: My wife wanted to have plantation shutters installed and I wasn’t really thrilled with the idea. She persisted and I succumbed to the old adage “happy wife, happy life.” We had several blinds companies come by and give estimates. Of those who came over, Michael, from Budget Blinds had the best samples and by far the best prices. We made the decision to go with Budget Blinds and began to work with Diane to coordinate payment and the installation. She was a pleasure to work with, and even had to go the extra mile because our project fell right in the middle of the COVID-19 shutdown. Diane kept us well informed about the slight delay that was caused by the shutdown and how the job would progress. It was great to be so well informed. Yesterday, Kevin and his partner came to do the installation. Wow. I really regretted being so opposed to the project in the beginning. The shutters were installed quickly and with an impressive level of craftsmanship. They’re solid, the joints are perfect and they feel very well made. More importantly they make our house look great, both inside and out. They definitely increase the appeal of the house and no doubt the value as well. I would recommend this team to my friends and family without hesitation.

They were kind, accommodating and efficient. They came to my house to consult with me and show me the product, so it was no stress for me. And it only took the installer about 10-15 minutes to install them (3 blinds for one large bay window), no mess or fuss. And the blinds are absolutely beautiful!

Gitika Kaul: I’m so saddened by my experience with the shade store in Potomac. I’ve been dealing with them now for 6 months and I’ve been through 2 different sales associates. Their customer care is pretty poor, the follow up is nearly non existent, they had to send someone out 2x for measures and still didn’t get everything we needed measured. I’ve been trying to order from them now for over a month and can’t get anyone to return my call or email. I don’t know how they are in business. I expect more when I am purchasing expensive window coverings. I’m going to have to start from scratch with another company due to their lack of response. Doesn’t give me a lot of faith in their product if their service is so poor. I so wanted this to work. I’m not a regular review writer but they have not gotten back to me despite repeated attempts I figure this May finally get their attention. Not terribly hopeful frankly!

Elizabeth Davis: This was my first custom curtain experience. We needed functional drapes for a sliding glass door. The Shade Store in-store experts made the process easy, changed quotes quickly and advised me on fabric durability and liners. I went back several times for different fabrics and they worked with me at my own pace. The installer came on time to measure and later install the curtains. He had them up - perfectly installed - in less than 30 minutes! Will use again.

Min Park: I placed an order in September and half of the blinds are still in production. The initial measurements were done incorrectly and it appears that it took these guys more than 10 days to even place a replacement order for the incorrectly-sized blinds after they became aware of the defect. Moreover, the customer service along the way has been terrible. They frequently ignored my phone calls and emails and rarely got back to me on time. UPDATE: The customer service reached out to me to resolve the outstanding issues with our blinds, and they did a great job. They rush ordered the blinds and installed them with minimal delay. I had a manager assisting me and supervising the progress the entire time. In view of these efforts, I have raised my evaluation of them to 3 stars.

Gary Evans: On 06/11 we paid in full for two expensive motorized blinds for our condo at the Alexandria, Old Town store. One shade came with a defect. It has a horizontal seam in the middle of the shade and looks horrible and is inoperable. Below is my experience: 1. The measurement consultant was professional and courteous; 2. The installer, however was another story. He mounted the 2nd window brackets crooked, ¼” off and angled. The screws on all brackets are showing and appear to not be in all the way. 3 - There are paint chunks missing where his drill handle hit the paint, and fingerprints all over the wall and windows The installation was on 7/2/2021. We notified the store on the same day about the defective shade and the problems, as did the installer. We still haven’t heard from customer support, neither via email or phone. We contacted the store a few times, and all they could tell us is it’s in the support order. Unfortunately, as of today, we have not hard back on the status from the customer support. We feel that the store and the customer care should communicate.

I tracked an employee down for assistance in moving materials from a high shelf to store level in the door section. Crazy.

Chase Johnson: The employees here are courteous. But the wood cutting service they claim to offer is not available when needed. The store should just be candid that wood cutting won’t be available (or at the very least won’t be available at any specific time). I am a local DIYer (not a contractor). Before I bought wood I asked about cutting and was told it was no problem—buy it and then request a cut. I did. I was then told the lumber associate wasn’t available for an hour. I couldn’t get the wood (a single sheet of plywood I needed to cut in half) into my car, so I waited. After an hour, there was still no lumber associate, so the wood was never cut.

Annie Signorelli: I ordered a dishwasher with professional installation and the process from start to finish was completely nontransparent and unprofessional. The installation had to be rescheduled because the dishwasher wasn’t pulled down for pick up in time, and then when it was installed it was the incorrect dishwasher — not even the right brand. After several hours on the phone with the Lowes installation line, including being told multiple times that they couldn’t advance the process because they couldn’t get in touch with anyone at their own Lowes store, I called the store directly and was able to sort it out and get the installation rescheduled. A Lowes associate later told me that they don’t have the “luxury” of waiting on hold with the store which is what I had to do in order to ensure my order was completed. Finally the correct dishwasher was installed on the third attempt and I was told I could contact the installation line again to discuss compensation for the inconvenience. Again it took multiple attempts to even get an update on where my case stood, despite being told every time that I should expect a call back “by end of business” every day I called. When I finally got offered compensation it was for less than half of the amount I requested (I requested the installation service be refunded seeing as it took 3 attempts and I was the one having to set everything up because Lowes did not follow through). While I am satisfied with the product I am in disbelief at how difficult and unprofessional the process was with Lowes. I do not recommend purchasing appliances from installation from this store or using the Lowes installation services.

None of the suitcases had prices on them, so I had to hunt down a cashier to find out how much one was, who was MASK-LESS the entire time, not to mention completely incompetent. She ended up charging me when all I wanted was a price check. And then she tried to talk me out of processing a refund, insisting that is was a good deal (it wasn’t). Absolutely not worth going here! It’s gone so far downhill.

We had older curtains in the library which she expertly adjusted to render more updated. She has made new curtains for my living room and stairway landing. With the landing, she recommended a shear and it has been a great choice as the beauty of the light filtering in has made my days brighter. In the larger bathroom, she has made curtains that remind me of clouds and when the light shines through, the effect is stunning. The design work, the sewing and the installation were impeccable. Without a box or receipt in hand, we brought it back to see what may be possible to do. Associates TK, Nicole S, and Anton were able to use the debit card used to purchase to look up my receipt to get our return sorted. We so appreciate them going truly above and beyond to show us their compassion and excellent customer service.

Shayna Deverman: Dirty, unorganized, extremely low stock on everything. Items thrown everywhere, picked over. Shoe isle was a disgrace. Nice they have an “Ulta”, but very limited items. Took me several minutes to figure out where body wash was. Haircare, travel, makeup is all grouped together in the front/middle-like typical but body wash/deodorant was clear on the end of the store. Terrible flow. All that looking and they had very limited washes! Men’s selection had more to choose from. Went in there with a very basic list and got one thing on it… my nearest Walgreens was more helpful…disappointing since I love me a Target trip. I won’t be back to this one.

Thomas Nali: NO PARKING VALIDATION Poor inventory. This is on a regular old Monday. I asked for the product I was looking for, they checked in the back, and said it was too hard to get to and another employee would work on it, but they don’t know how long it will be. This was at almost noon. Look at how few dairy products are on the shelf. Staff continued to prove unhelpful. I asked four different employees where a type of product was and they each told me to find someone who worked in that dept. OR they just told me they “probably don’t have it” WITHOUT even looking or bothering to find where it should be!! They tried to walk off but I said I am not satisfied until we find the shelf where it should be, and I’ve been looking for fifteen minutes. Took all of that to get some help finding one little thing.

Sade Wilson: I was shopping today at the Washington D.C target store and was purchasing gift for my family I found some nice things and for a really good price. I went to check out and the items were ringing up different from what the price was upstairs I explained to the cashier he called for a manager. The manager name tiffany came and refuse to change the price the for two of the items but change it for the other too items. I continue checking out because I didn’t want to wait to long after I was done checking out I went upstairs to take pictures to show the manger she still refuse and walk away.

Donna Walker: Buyers we aware the prices in Target are going up every week and its terrible and make sure you know the prices of your items because the shelf price and the register price can be different at times. Security was following me for no reason so I had t let him know you are following the wrong person. I catch more people stealing at Target and I do not work there. Also, some of the employees are so rude. I will be recording my conversations with the employees when I need to ask for help as proof of how rude some of them can be.

They offer a verity of products that can help you with your Lawn, Garden, Appliances, Painting, Outdoor Patio, Home Improvement, Cleaning Products, Tools/Equipment Rentals and many many more. I really Appreciate the help from a young male staff who was working in the Garden/Mulch area, he was very Helpful and Knowledgeable with assisting me with the products along with a young female cashier on the inside of the store. Now you can never get the help you need when you’re in the store aisles. Every time you asked a staff member who’s in the same aisle as you. Can you help me with something? Their reply seems to be, I don’t work over here and they don’t know who can help you..!!! Home Depot needs better training for their staff who’s working in the store aisles..

Bailey Cage: Unfortunately this was the first time I’ve been to a Home Depot where the staff was completely unknowledgeable. I had spent hours online trying to research the best products / methods for tiling my second-story concrete subfloor with no definitive answers, so I decided to head to the store and find someone to help me. Normally Home Depot workers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, but whoever they sent back to flooring to help me seemed to know nothing. He was able to show me where items were on the aisle, but he couldn’t answer a single question about how to tile my floor or what the differences and pros/cons in products were. It was incredibly frustrating and unhelpful, and I ended up leaving with a couple hundred dollars of products I later had to return. What truly upset me is that I did some more research once I got home just to find out the answer I was looking for is common knowledge in construction, but as someone doing a DIY project, I just didn’t know what terms I had to search for. For a Home Depot employee - the flooring specialist - to not know this is astounding.

I am trying to get a door, but the store is unresponsive, the management is inept and provides no additional assistance, the associates are extremely slow, unknowledgeable of the products. The worst customer service experience I have ever had. I do not recommend this store. Please go to another Home Depot location.

Anna Lloyd: Desmond in the home and garden went out of his way to help us find something that 4 different employees had just shrugged their shoulders and said that even though it was available online they were probably out. Desmond knew exactly where it was and showed us himself, even though it was on the complete other side of the store. He really took customer service to the next level.
