D.C. Bouldering Project: what do users think?

Joshua Flowers: Great facility with very fun setting. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We went during morning hours so can’t speak to the crowds as there weren’t many people. The separation between the west and east sides of the building is a mild nuisance but nothing major. People need to learn to use their feet. One thing to be aware of is that routes are a little more low grade focused so if you find yourself in the v7+ range you may not have as many projects to work on, but again the setting was enjoyable. Overall great space and would be happy to call this my home gym if we moved to the DC area.

Patrick Dennien: BB have done a lot with the space here. It's big, open, safe, and well installed/maintained. This is a great facility with a lot of services/options available to customers, including multiple walls, a kids area, a good quality gym, and more targeted climbing exercises. Really great for beginners to experienced climbers.

David Yaffe: Really nice facility, awesome sport climbing training section. The bouldering routes were lacking though and felt very cramped / too many traverses running into other problems. I wasn’t allowed to use my friend’s guest pass and had to pay $30 because he wasn’t around. At no other location is this the policy. I also had to wait 20 minutes before I could start bouldering to “learn how to fall” despite bouldering weekly for months and having been to other locations. I signed the waiver so let me climb!

India Lindsay: Great and convenient bouldering gym! Facilities are modern and clean. We looove the sauna. I’m new to bouldering so the intro class they offer free to members has made it a fun and easy new hobby to pick up. Even if going for general fitness, they offer a decent variety of yoga classes and the gym equipment is often available.

Jessica McNutt: It's so exciting to have a bouldering gym in DC! The staff were friendly and helpful and the gym itself was clean, well organized and offered a fun variety of climbing routes at different skill levels. I also appreciate that the gym focuses on bouldering. All in all a great experience. I'll definetly be going back.

Clayton Dobry: Phenomenal bouldering gym, really love the variety of styles of climbing (comp style, traverse wall, slabs, overhanging, etc). Beautiful, modern interior design with gorgeous murals throughout. I'm not a fan of the band grading system but the route setting is solid, a good mix for climbers of all skill levels. Personally I prefer powder chalk to liquid chalk, but they do not permit powder chalk. Monthly membership prices are pretty crazy but the day passes are affordable.

Tim Macchi: I joined BKB as a “founding member” before the gym had even opened up. The gym is conveniently located for me and I was excited to try bouldering (new climber here). Also this area is kinda gym desert (Other gym companies, if you are listening, open up some gyms in NoMa/Union Market!!). Overall, the gym is clean, the staff are friendly, and its a popular location. However, there are several problems and for the reasons listed below I will not be renewing my membership: My biggest complaint is the physical layout of the gym itself. Many people agree with me when I say that the gym seems to be in an identity struggle. It wants to be both a climbing gym and a regular gym; and unfortunately its too small for both. The weight and cardio area just sucks. Lack of mirrors, weights, and general layout makes this space very frustrating. There are two studios (one group workout and one yoga) but there are few class offerings. The climbing areas seem to take up the majority of the gym but in general there really isn’t much of that either. You’ll find yourself dodging people when attempting to do a route. The “beast” looks really cool, but I rarely see people actually using it and it kinda feels like more space that could have been used for normal climbing. Throw in a lounge and three climbing boards (with ipads) that aren't used much; you’ll be left with the feeling that this could have been much better organized. Growing pains. It’s a new gym and there are always going to be growing pains, but it does detract from the overall experience. There are few classes offered and the app can be difficult to use. The water pressures in the showers are weak. Communication has gotten better but there were some long periods where I didn’t hear anything and few times is feedback requested. Also the included “intro to climbing class” offered was sorta useless. We got about 15 minutes of instruction and then we just all climbed on our own. Not much info on technique and not well organized. I really wanted to love this gym, but BKB needed to focus on one thing and one thing only.

Hannah K.: The space is amazing, the routes are not. Having been bouldering in both Portland, OR and Seattle, I was expecting a similar experience. I visited multiple times, thinking maybe my disappointment was just because I was out of practice. But no, when I brought a friend with me who’d also been bouldering multiple times at a better place, they agreed, and affirmed my experience: the routes here are bad, at least, for shorter and lower-level climbers. It seems to be a case of the routes being more a text of strength and height than actually being a puzzle to solve. There is a *Massive* shift in grips that are used beyond only the lowest grade of routes, and many routes simply are not achievable for shorter people unless you are a significantly more experienced climber. Every time I’ve gone climbing here, both before and after the DC Bouldering Project acquisition, has left me feeling frustrated—and the more I realize this, the less interested I am in going back.

Peter Krupa: Based on some of the reviews from more experienced climbers, I see some people are highlighting things they don't like. Speaking as a person who has never climbed before, I've really, really enjoyed using this gym. The routes are fun and challenging, and there's enough of them that I never run out. The A/B/C rating system can be inconsistent, but it's not a big deal. The facility is gorgeous, the staff is incredible, and their kids programming is excellent. Great vibes all around. Not sure why people are complaining that the routes are too short. If a route is too short, pick a harder one. Very curious to see how crowded this gym will get in the winter. I like going in the middle of the day or late morning, but I can see how it gets a little bonkers in the evening. I guess that means people like it!

Jonathan Hull: I have a BKB membership in Chicago and decided to check this site out. Despite the strange setup (east and west bouldering walls on opposite ends of the gym), really enjoyed the routes and the variety of options. In terms of the A-G scale that others are complaining about, I personally enjoy it. It gets my head locked out of what I can or cannot do, and then it also gives me permission to just enjoy the climb and not be focused on the grade. I know other gyms that do a similar scaling method (of different levels including 2-3 V grades) do typically record a specific V grade for their books. Not sure how one could access that info though.

Movement Crystal City: what do users think?

V Lee: I used to climb here regularly before moving out of state and it is easily my favorite climbing gym I’ve been to. It’s massive with a huge variety of sport and bouldering routes that get updated consistently. I mostly bouldered so can’t speak too much for the sport climbing section, but in the bouldering area there was a great variety of different skill levels and often very creative and fun problems that got you thinking outside the box to work through them. There’s a huge gym area with fitness classes and a store for climbing gear and snacks. The staff is incredibly friendly and there’s a lovely community here. I found it very easy to make friends and find new people to climb with. There was a culture of helping each other figure things out and a sense of camaraderie. I miss everyone here dearly!

SJ S: I am a V3 climber, but I have climbed in at least 7 gyms all over the country, many routinely, over the past 8 years. The variety of walls and climbing types here are excellent. The weight and cardio equipment and space is the best I've seen. The parking is excellent, and the location is unbeatable. However, the route setting on bouldering is not very good. The style of holds do not match the ratings, especially when combined with the moves required. The holds are not cleaned enough, and some even feel grimy. It's gross. I have never really enjoyed climbing at this gym as a result. I recommend cleaning the holds better immediately, and touring your route setters through some of Movement's Western gyms, so they can learn better practices for route setting and hold cleaning. The quality of the gym and the quality of the sets simply don't match, at least for lower grades routes like the ones I climb. If they did, this would be a 5 star review. This is even more important with the ladies climbing nights you are hosting. Not many v1s are even accessible, because they combine power moves and slope holds...really? I go out of my way to climb at other gyms in the area instead of here, and I want this gym to be better! ~A Casual Climber Gal

Ian Grossberg: Great selection of bouldering, I haven’t even gotten to try their large ropes section. Good exercise equipment, the folks that work there are very sweet, people who come are super chill, and they require everyone where masks, regardless of vaccine status, esp. with omicron now breaking through boostered folks this is such an important thing!

A Parker: I always enjoy climbing here. There are so many routes, some just for lead, the bouldering area is large, and the gym area is well equipped. FYI, some recent reviews are grumbling about how the gym's current mask rule is "oppressive" or "ruins the experience". I don't need to see everyone's mouth to have a fun climbing experience, climbing with masks isn't a burden, and there is plenty of evidence that masks help reduce viral load. That's important for the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike.

Sasha Oncley: Awesome gym! The climbing was fun however the grades felt a little inconsistent, and difficult to feel out at times. Otherwise (petty ik) it's so sick! Great bouldering section!

Devin Pendergast: This gym is EXCELLENT. I have been bouldering for ~8 years, been a member of 5 different gyms, and have climbed at countless others- this gym is my favorite so far. Not only is the location amazing (near 2 Metro stations, Pentagon City and Crystal City) but the gym itself and the staff are all incredible. Location: The location is so accessible to anyone. If you prefer to drive, there is an underground garage, and parking is validated, so it's free for users of the gym, and free on weekends. If you prefer to use the metro, there are two train stations, both about ~7-10 min walking distance The Gym: The gym itself is absolutely incredible, huge, and has all the amenities a climber could want. The bouldering areas are really well put together, spacious, and lots of varied climbing. There is a separate area for belaying, WITH free classes to get your belaying cert. There is a separate kids area, which is great for everyone's safety, and a great experience for adult climbers. There are also yoga and exercise classes which come with a monthly or annual pass. There is ALSO an exercise/training area with probably well over 30 machines (I haven't counted), squat racks, free weights, pull up area, "light board" for grip training, finger and grip racks, jump ropes TRX bands 🤯 like, literally, you name it, they got it. The locker rooms are always clean, have a TON of storage lockers, and even a shower The Staff: Since day 1, the staff members have been warm, welcoming, and just dope overall. Everyone is nice and so inviting. This is literally the best climbing/gym experience I've ever had.

Lali Singh: Immediately after lifting the masks they are allowing dry chalk to be flying around the gym like magic snow flakes while lacking proper ventilators. I am really disappointed since they've had a number of COVID-19 cases and they mandated masks even while on the treadmill (which I'm not completely against) but yet they allow 90000 people to climb at the same time with insane amounts of chalk dust everywhere. Sadly now I have to quit the gym because I have lung problems, and I'm a pretty fit and healthy individual in my 30s.

Colin Bingham: I have been an Earth Treks (Movement) Member for about three years, my home gym changing from Hampden -> Columbia -> Crystal City over the years as I moved & changed jobs. I haven't been to sportrock, or Brooklyn Boulders, so review will be comparing the CC location to the others I have been. For reference, I climb V5 and flash V4, and 70% of my time is spent bouldering over top rope. First, I'll just say that the facility is nice and clean, and that the parking being free is awesome and convenient. The gym/fitness area isn't anything special, but it is comparable to the other locations. Now my critique - Of the three Movement locations above, CC is by far the worst for bouldering for these reasons: - Lack of creativity with route setting - 80% of walls being overhangs - Uninspired overreliance on crimps and upper body strength - The slow(ing) rate at which they update the walls with new routes, while the gym has continued to get busier and busier. All while the prices have gone up in the last few months (to be fair, all of the gym memberships probably did). I also find that the routes are a bit more challenging at CC for the same grade at other gyms, as many climbs are just tests of strength with simple sequences of moves, rather than figuring out the beta and collaborating with friends on solving the problem. For this reason, a bouldering session at CC feels more like working out than having fun - which was a main reason why I got into climbing in the first place. Overall, it isn't a bad gym, and I rated it as such. But they could go a long way towards making climbing more fun, accessible, and engaging for new and experienced climbers alike.

Norman Ng: Really big gym with bouldering area, top rope, and lead walls. most people are really nice there, and friendly. Problems are really well set. Currently the grading has quite the range. That being said , a lot of different style of climbs you can find within one grade.

J Phillips (GreatAmericanDad): NO AUTO-BELAYS AT THIS LOCATION Other than that, I stopped through here on my way from Colorado so, understand that is my reference point; big rock, lots of gyms, Olympic walls, etc.... THIS place was surprisingly amazing! Tons of wall space and friendly climbers. I'm not reviewing the staff because I didn't pay to meet them, I paid to climb, and these walls/routes are first rate.

Sportrock Climbing Center: what do users think?

Daniel Sweeney: Wife and I came in on a Sunday morning for a fun and active climb. We had a great experience, both with the staff and the facilities. Equipment was in good shape, and all of the walls were well kept. Our instructor was amazing, very relaxed and he never pushed us more than we wanted on the walls. The climbs are great and offer a ton of varying difficulty from never climbed to bouldering and clip in climbing. The 60ft walls are something to behold at first, some of the tallest on the east Coast. We did a 1.5 hr session, and were pretty tired by the end (roughly 5 climbs or so with a group of 3). Definitely will be coming back. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn to climb, or just have a fun and active afternoon!

Tatiana Russell: It was my second time ever climbing, and I was truly impressed with the facility! Super friendly staff, nice variety of climbs - they were busy on a weeknight but there was plenty of room and barely any wait times. Parking is sometimes tough in this industrial park lot. They offer summer camps for children, too.

Jon: I’ve been twice with my family for the beginner rock climbing course. The first class was with B and the second class was with young Xavier. We had a fantastic time both times. The staff and course instructors are very friendly and approachable. They do a good job of easing you in and they’re very patient, even if you’re scared of heights. We highly recommend anyone to go. If you’re lucky you might even get B or Xavier!

Michael Martin: I've been loving Sportrock, it's great exercise and you don't even realize you're exercising. They keep the climbing walls relatively fresh with updates, but not so fast that you feel like you need to hurry and climb a route before it gets removed. In addition to lots of climbing opportunities (they have 3 separate bays with a lot of climbing options), they have weights/aerobics equipment as well as a yoga room/classes and other health related classes. The staff has always been great. Genuinely like that I found this place.

Aaron Tranquillo: Loved the gym it was great. Staff wasn’t helpful. We were new there and told the girl that checked us in. We paid and she said have fun. No intro or any questions about if we were bouldering, top roping, or leading. (We didn’t really care as we are experienced climbers so ok saves us time.). Then after about 10 climbs a guy asked us if we were top rope certified (obviously not as no one mentioned it) and told us no problem you can stop up front and do that quick. Guy at the desk told us we couldn’t do so because we didn’t do it at the very beginning? Gym 11/10, staff 2/10
Response: Hi Aaron, Thank you so much for reaching out. We are sorry your experience with our staff left you feeling this way. We would love to follow up with staff to rectify the issue. Do you remember what day and time you were in the facility? Please reach out to jeff@sportrock.com if you are interested in free daypasses if you ever want to climb at our facility again.

Tim Carothers: Well the facility is big and well-done, but the staff was awful. This place isn't welcome to beginners or if you are getting back into it after a gap, unless you are paying for a course. Within minutes of getting there, just giving a quick refresher to ourselves while we changed shoes because it's been a minute since we climbed, but one the staff came up to snark-ily ask my wife "if she is staff" - obviously not. And that under no circumstances can she give any pointers for fear of the liability, to which we already sign a waiver... So rude, but it's fine - so we just went to take the belay test. My wife passed, and mine was fine, as I tried to understand the directions of the incoherent mumbling of the staff member, who then said it was fine, except I had something in my belay form that was a tad sloppy, but couldn't tell me what it was, because it could be construed "as instruction" which is apparently forbidden here. So he had to deliberate with the staff. Then they said, "we are going to have to decline me only, because you were doing a practice before" Then they said we could come back tomorrow (what does this change?). So it's pretty embarrassing to have to turn everything back in, for a reason I'm not told, and then the mumbler tried to suggest a partial refund... Not sure what he expected to keep any of the money for. All in all, there is a very welcoming and friendly climbing gym like 15 minutes away, where we had a great day.
Response: Hi Tim, First, we want to apologize for the experience that you had at our facility. The spirit of our rules is to keep climbers safe, not to be punitive or belittle. We would love to have you come back and try climbing at Sportrock again, on us. If you are interested you can reach out to jeff@sportrock.com for free day passes. We would also like to follow up with the staff working that day to correct that sort of behavior going forward. If you would be willing could you also let us know what day and time you came into the gym? Appreciatively,

Rachel Keith: Super fun and beginner friendly, with a large range of difficulties. The Olympic speedwall is also there - you may get lucky and see an Olympian athlete practicing sometime. The facilities were spacious, very cold (refreshing when you're working hard), and staff was great.

Angelica Salcedo: They were super kind to me, explained everything. The installations are amazing, they have bulder and route climbing. The rental shoes are fine for being rental. I'm so happy I managed to go there !

Laura McPherson: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueFirst time and I did the 60 foot wall! Loved it - great instructors, lots of comraderie, physically and mentally challenging.

Alexis Hasty: Incredibly rude staff. As we were a foot away from the wall remapping a way up, two staff members walked up and one stepped directly in front of us and started climbing up. The male staffer told us to step back and give her space and when we said we were climbing that route, he responded “you can’t just take over a wall”. Completely inconsiderate given we were clearly starting that route (we were standing there for maybe 2 minutes or less). Afterwards, he resumed working. I really don’t think it’s appropriate to have that attitude and bah voir towards customers ESPECIALLY during your shift. I’ll go elsewhere, this place left a bad taste in our mouths.
Response: Hi Alexis, We sincerely apologize for your experience. If you wouldn't mind letting us know what day and time you visited our facility so we can follow up with staff that would be much appreciated. This sort of behavior is not in-keeping with our core values and we hope you will give our community a second chance. Please, reach out to Jeff@sportrock.com for free passes if you are interested in climbing with us again. Best,

Movement Rockville (Formerly Earth Treks Rockville): what do users think?

Erik V: Are looking to get stoked on a crimp with aretes in play? If so, you won't be disappointed with Movement Rockville. The staff is diverse, friendly, knowledgeable, and inclusive. There is a wide variety a bouldering problems, a weight room, lead-climbing specific areas, and a small shop that sells equipment and munchies. This spot if family friendly and has solid COVID protocols. Bouldering problems and climbing routes are updated regularly. The new challenges are loads of fun and help keep the gym interesting. Good Stuff!

Jeff Tong: Safe and a great place for fun rock climbing. They also have free yoga classes and a gym once in. The bathrooms are spacious with lockers and showers. The staff are super friendly. Overall, just an amazing place

Aaron Bouchey: Great routes, great walls, great vibes. Went in there to get a good work out and was impressed with the diversity the routsetters crafted. Standard work out area is a bit small, but offers everything you might need to get that pump going. Very creative and effective use of space.

Jay Park: This place is awesome! My son and his friend tried a kids climb class and they loved it. The staff were super friendly and helping me sign up the class with lots of care. The entire experience there was so great.

Joshua Bonner: Great gym. Great community. Reasonable prices and linked gyms. The routes were always interesting and the events were fun. My first experience climbing was at this gym and it stuck ever since!

Rose Sokol: Great place no matter what level you are. Learn to climb, find partners, or continue your growth. Free fitness and yoga classes for members! Really welcoming staff and members.

Jairus S: The Rockville Movement is an awesome location. The staff is friendly and helpful. Always look out for events since it's a great way to meet others! Tons of bouldering problems, top rope or lead rope climbs. A section is changed every few months. The workout area is the low point of the place, but still has almost everything you would need. I'm comparing it to other Movement gyms in the US. Also, since I've joined I've seen cardio equipment (treadmills and ellipticals) are slowly dying. It seems like they are constantly doing some type of repair on them. Other problems: 1. The three squat rack set up they have was not installed correctly. If you look at it from a side angle you can see that it is misaligned. 2. No Rogue Echo Bikes or Concept2 Skiers for cardio options

Leah Hubert: Great experiences climbing here! The staff is great, the vibe is chill, and facility is clean. It is safe and people are courteous. There are a variety of different climbing paths for different skill levels. The bouldering is fun as well. It's not the largest climbing gym in the area, but definitely offers a great space and nice facilities.

Sarah Alickovic (Raukowen): Absolutely fantastic indoor climbing gym. The staff are super friendly, the facilities are spotless and the trails are a bunch of fun.Would highly recommend 👍

Daniel Allison: I've been visiting this gym for several months now. Here are my impressions: The gym is huge and offers so much variety for beginners and experts. Workers are constantly crafting new routes to climb so every week is an adventure. They also offer a good variety of all your climbing product needs. The facility also has a workout area for non-climbing exercise. I cannot say enough about their staff. They are the most friendly people I've ever encountered in a work environment: they constsntly strive to make a personal connection. They are super helpful, knowledgeable, and you get a sense that they truly want to be your friend. Their staff makes returning to the facility a happy experience. The members are also friendly. You can make friends via the belay-buddy board or the bouldering section very easily! The price seems a little expensive up front, but after your first visit you'll be ready to come back as soon as your climbing muscles heal.

ClimbZone Laurel: what do users think?

Safiya Parker: Good experience as an adult. We went Thursday around 1130 to avoid children traffic. Pretty much had the walls to ourselves. Got the hour and a half for $30 and I think it was the perfect amount of time. Did about 15 of the 75 walls cause I was going for orange/red stickers. I have one wall that I just couldn’t get that day so will return & I would bring a friend to try also.
Response: Thank you for the 4 Star review. Looking forward to seeing you again tackle our red walls. Kevin Killen General Manager ClimbZone Laurel Kevin Killen General Manager ClimbZone Laurel

beyondTabu: It’s an amazing experience for the kids. So many wall options that kept the kids going for 2 hrs without pause. There’s a small snack counter with drinks and lots of tables to eat or rest. We’ll def be back for more. The staff are nice and walk around to ensure everyone is having fun and being safe.
Response: Thank you for the 5 Star review. Please come back to visit us again soon. Kevin Killen General Manager ClimbZone Laurel

Robert Hoffman: This place was awesome. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Exceeded my expectations. The walls and ease of use was also surprising. After a few minutes, my kids were hooking themselves into the ropes. I always verified before i sent them up, but it was very convenient.
Response: Thank you very much for the 5 Star review and the wonderful comments about our staff. I will be sure to share with them. Hope to see you again soon. Kevin Killen General Manager ClimbZone Laurel

K D: Nice place for kids and adults. The walls are designed for inexperienced to experience climbers. There are a variety of walls to choose from. The the walls are nice and create a different experience for each climb.

T. Lynch: A great place for kids with a family atmosphere. This was our first time visiting and we had an enjoyable time..The staff was great and someone was always walking around willing to lend a helping hand.

Katya Gilbo: Took my 7yr old sisters and it was a blast of fun for two hours! So creative and artsy as well with many different kind of walls! I've been to rock climbing gyms, and this was super novel and cool! Also the staff were really great in helping the kids, and we enjoyed the music they had playing too.

Turner C: Huge fan of this place. Great workout plus great music! Threw a Birthday party here for our daughter. Plenty of fun for the whole family! Had a great time.
Response: Thank you so much for the 5 Star review. I am glad that everyone enjoyed themselves during the birthday party. Please come back and see us again soon. Kevin Killen General Manager ClimbZone Laurel

Nicolas Crouzier: Nice concept! Plenty of climbing walls to chose from for all skill levels for kids. Even the harder red routes will challenge adults who are not too used to "real" rock climbing. Place was not too crowded when we went which made for a nice experience. A bit pricey however and can't really justify coming back often (-1 star). Try to find a coupon to save a few bucks!

Vertical Rock Climbing & Fitness Center: what do users think?

Amanda Morrison: Began climbing outdoors in 2021 but when the weather got colder, we signed up here and have been coming ever since - love love love this gym! The space is clean, the staff are friendly, and the yoga class especially is a big draw for me - the instructors are wonderful. They also do fun events like Halloween. I do wish they had a larger gym equipment section but it’s nbd. Definitely would recommend

Matthew Brennan: Joined this gym December 2021 and it has been outstanding. Best decision and investment I have made in myself in a LONG TIME. The staff are great and the climbers are supportive and friendly. A great place to meet positive people and explore climbing. They also have yoga, Pilates, and meet-ups to learn the ropes and meet other members. They are opening a bouldering gym in Tyson’s Corner very soon so more excitement to come.
Response: Thank you for providing your feedback. Our community opinions are very important to us and we are extreamly happy you are so happy being part of the VR Community. We look forward to climbing with for many years to come!

Leena Halabi: We'd never done rock climbing before so it was the first time for all of us (ages 19-31). Olivia, our instructor, was extremely helpful! 10/10 recommend for a group activity, low or advanced workout, or for a rainy day. Walk-in price for 3 climbs per person is $30.

Michael Fredricks: Great gym with amazing staff. Everyone is very helpful, friendly, and passionate about climbing, and there's plenty of routes to challenge me. The community is awesome and going to VR is always my favorite part of the day. Perks: training area upstairs, workout area with weights and racks, rope wall area, bouldering area, yoga classes

Joshua Bonner: If I were evaluating the gym exclusively on the community, I'd give it a 5. If I were evaluating the gym exclusively on the quality of the gym itself (routes, maintenance, workout area, amenities), I'd give it a 3. If I were evaluating it based on price and business model, a 1. I'm giving it a 2 because the people make the gym; the gym doesn't make the people. The physical gym itself is 'fine': the routes are decent, the weight area is small, the covid policies were excessively minimal, the size is middling, there's no water bottle filter, the staff is great. What I have issue with is the delay of maintenance and use of a contract. Triangle, Sport Rock, Movement, Latitude... *every* climbing gym I've been to has a non-contract price approximately equal to the 12 month contract-price of VR (+/- $10). Instead Vertical Rock tacks on a 30% increase for a "flex" version as of writing this, creating a problem and providing the solution like standard chain weight gyms. I'm inclined to believe they aren't hurting for cash since they're expanding to Fairfax, and in the era of Covid, I found the use of a contract anti-consumer. I hope they change their policies. Check the price/contract of the DC metro area climbing gyms before going and see how much going regularly and distance matters to you.

Brandy Rose: Very helpful and polite staff. Awesome climbs for top rope, lead and bouldering. Our whole family enjoys going there!

The Watchman: I just go to watch my kids and grandkid climb. They LOVE it though! It's a great workout that doesn't feel like you're working out. They say it's a blast and I should try it. Maybe I will sometime. :-)

Dori Roberts Stewart: This place is a blast. We took our teenage son and I think the adults had just as much fun as the kids. We have been to several other rock climbing businesses and what was nice about this one was that we had a dedicated staff member that stayed with us the entire experience. I would recommend this place for both beginner and the experienced.

Eric Bischoff: Excellent guided, outdoor climbing experience. My son and I have been climbing at Vertical Rock Indoor Climbing Center for about 2 years, and recently we were able to climb outdoors for the first time through one of their guided trips (Great Falls, VA). Jovany is a personable, knowledgeable and professional guide which made the trip enjoyable and memorable.
Response: Thank you for the five stars and for making us part of your climbing & fitness journey! 😊 Looking forward to seeing you again soon! The VR Family 👊😎

Richard Krauss: Facility is TERRIBLE. 12-month membership is pricy and it is very hard to get ahold of anyone to cancel your memebership. Also, when purchasing I specifically asked the employee, "Does this membership expire after 12 months?" The response was "YES". However, I continued to be billed after my year commitment and it was very difficult to reach anyone to cancel my membership.

Rock Creek Trail Exercise Course: what do users think?

Denis Gomez: Great place to exercise in times of pandemic since it has an open space. There's a couple of bars to do pull ups and there's a 135lb bar to do deadlifts as well

Brock Heller: I use the Rock Creek Exercise course often from living in the area. However, I always think it could use a lot of love considering the tax base in NW DC to pay for maintenance and imr. The outdoor equipment is old and often broken, the trail itself is too narrow, does not drain well, and is generally not super well maintained. However, it is beautiful, complete, and conveniently located. I give it high marks, I just wish it would get the love it deserves.

Jeff Daniels: Pleasant experience. Very nice trail to ride. Was disappointed when trail ended in DC as it was closed. Not sure if that section is considered Rock Creek Trail. I planned to ride to the Washington Monument.

Andrew C: A lot of nice equipment all in one place. Pull up bars and gymnastics rings are two pieces of equipment are great. Various benches are good for step ups or some other leg workout but they are super uncomfortable for their intended purpose (sit-ups).

Brian Christopher: It's a great place to get your work out. It could use a little modernization. Some upgrades and weatherized workout equipment. It's a great part of my quality of life here in Woodley Park.

Justus Hsu: Equipment is old or rotten (mostly wood and iron bars), but in COVID times what can you do?

Bret S: So glad this is here. Hard to make an excuse not to get some bodyweight exercise in when I'm biking right by it.

Matthew Hartnett: Too many angry cyclists!!

Uriel Martinez: Great outdoor parkour area!!!

Kostadin Kushlev: Terrific place for outdoor exercise and #calisthenics

Anthony Bowen Branch YMCA: what do users think?

Forrest Cory: Beautiful YMCA neatly tucked in the heart of DC. Awesome Life Fitness, Hammer Strength and Cybex equipment, a rock wall, swimming pool and friendly staff and trainers. Parking isn’t too bad considering the area and there is a garage around the corner . Highly recommended!

Roxette Caba: Went today for a tour. The young man who gave me a tour was very nice. The women at the front disk was not friendly or welcome at all. The monthly fee is outrageous for the YMCA! $109/month?! The facility is nice but not worth that much! Plus the whole mission of the YMCA is to be affordable and community driven. Overall very disappointed. I’ve been a member of YMCA in Massachusetts all over and it’s not this expensive and unfriendly.

Andrew Jacobs: Echoing the poor front desk service. I called membership yesterday and they encouraged me to show up today for a tour and three-day guest pass. When I arrived the front desk was skeptical of my call, asked me who I spoke with, at what time, etc. They said there are no such thing as three day trial periods. They also told me they couldn’t bring me on a tour without an ID on me (which I didn’t have because I ran over to the gym from my apartment). I was immediately turned off — they missed out on a member!

Ana Marioni: Very poor customer service from the front desk. As a nationwide Y member for 4 years, I have never been treated with such disrespect. Extremely unprofessional and rude. Overall the gym is great besides the front desk receptionists.

Gigi Mathews: Great facility, location. Since pandemic the schedules/classes are in disarray - very few classes offered now are at the weirdest hours for anyone who works during the day. Thursday - Sunday, when most people are relatively free, they have the least amount of classes.

g Bernard Wandel: Great, well managed urban Y I remember when they tore down the old one and created this space as a flagship to hold down the condos and the sprawl of 14th St They did so in the nick of time! Pleasant staff, pool, weights, classes, plenty of amenities including a sauna I am blessed I get to come here Out of town Y members: The AWAY deal here is less generous than in other urban settings It's $10 a visit Well worth it Perhaps as they get more established they can afford to be more generous

Claudia Fernandez: Was told that memberships were put on pause for the pandemic and then was charged full price every single month in the summer and fall of 2020, when gyms were not even allowed to be open. I didn't receive a single email, letter, or phone call alerting me that they had started charging again. Honestly this is such a scam. They kept charging despite the entire fitness facility being 100% closed for months, and despite the fact that they said both on the phone and on their website that they were putting memberships on pause. No clear communication on their website either.

Brian Bradley: I wouldn't recommend this gym. The trainers and floor staff are rude. You also pay over $100 a month. I give it two stars because the facilities are nice and there's a good number of machines to mix up your workouts. But your money is probably better spent elsewhere.

Andrei Jacobs: Well maintained but too small if you wanna get to a few pieces of equipment. Its a Nice community but smallish gym.

Erica Young: This Y is beautiful and has everything- sauna, hot tub, climbing wall, state of the art equipment, yoga classes, spin classes, body pump, kick boxing, culinary classes, etc. Literally everything. It's a beautiful building with a lot to offer. Further, this was named after Anthony Bowen, an African American man who wanted to create a place for low-income folks and people of color to have access to healthy living services. Low in behold, I came to find out the the gym is $91 per month (not including the joining fee). I would love to go here, but it is NOT realistic for many folks to go here in terms of budget. Super disappointed in the YMCA, as it claims itself to be a non-profit.

The Boulder Yard: what do users think?

Spartan 351: Very friendly staff who took their time to make sure we felt welcome! This was our first time and the staff and community were terrific!

jay collins: Freaking love this place. Atmosphere is very laid back. Very challenging routes. Awesome work out. People are very welcoming. No rude people. The only way they can improve this place is by having a bbq pit going. Hahahaha. Will definitely recommend the place to others and we will be coming back for sure, after I work out and get better so I can really enjoy the place to the fullest.

Nathan Gough: The Boulder Yard was great. I took my six-year-old daughter there, and Joe was great getting set up to climb. We will go back then it's not so busy. This is a place kids can go, and parents need to watch their kids. This is a gym, not a bounce or jump house. Thanks, Boulder Yard.

Bruce C: This is a great place to climb. Very nice climbing walls, a little deceiving from the outside because you can't tell the height of the back walls by looking at the front entrance.I really like this place and plan to return often. The owner is super friendly as well as his staff. This place offers quite a lot for being a little smaller than the other chain gyms. Recommend!!

Jacob Nance: Fun climbs and friendly people. Bouldering only but new climbs almost every week keep it fresh

Rich Doyle: This place is the best! I am relatively new to climbing and started at a later age than most (let's just say 50+). Climbing is a great workout and a lot of fun and I encourage you to try it. The people that climb here, in addition to the owner and staff, are very welcoming and friendly. It is a safe and clean environment where I feel comfortable, even since covid-19 rocked our world. What sets the boulder yard apart from the several other climbing gyms I have visited is the number and variety of routes and the community atmosphere. I highly recommend the boulder yard.

Robert Mandes: This is an independently owned gym not a franchise with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff, and great yoga instructors. My entire family has climbed here for almost a year and cannot get enough of it. A climbers gym with lots of equipment geared to help you become stronger. There are many excellent climbers here, but climbers of all levels are welcome and included in a fantastic community environment. The route setters create a wide variety of original routes that are changed often and are longer than what you see in other gyms.

Jonathan Baer: The staff couldn’t be more friendly, Steve and gang are extremely helpful and will even give you tips if they see ways you can improve. It’s a smaller gym, but the sense of community really makes it. There’s a nice, relaxed environment to climb for beginners and vets alike. New problems are created frequently enough to keep it feeling fresh but not too frequently that you can’t come back to conquer one that’s giving you trouble. Anyone interested in climbing really needs to check this place out!
Response: Thank you for joining our climbing community

Brian Dreyer: Positive: Professionalism, QualityI started climbing 2 months ago. Since then I've gained 10 lbs of solid muscle. Every time I climb I learn somthing new. The staff is super professional and very easy to talk to.

Joanna Wright: We have been climbing at the Boulder Yard for a year! If you want a laid back gym with great routes that has a variety for everyone, you need to check this place out! Our son loved it so much after coming one time, he joined the competition youth climbing team. Amazing owners and awesome coaches!

Rock Creek Sports Club: what do users think?

Daniela Velasquez: I’ve been coming to RCSC for a little over a year now and it’s been the best fitness decision I’ve made thus far! From the front desk workers and personal trainers to custodial staff— they are extremely welcoming, professional, and respectful. I am also appreciative to have found a place that actually enforces their sanitizing regulations. Aside from the people, they have a wide variety of equipment to fulfill your fitness goals and is well maintained. *Updated review* Since the beginning of COVID to its most recent Omicron variant, RCSC has done a great job at enforcing rules such as updating their patrons via email with mask mandates and documentation of vaccination cards. They also continue to have disinfectant bottles, wipes, and towels in multiple spots throughout the gym. Last but not least is the real time capacity tracker through their website. For those who live a bit further, have a busy schedule, or simply want to save themselves a trip to the gym before realizing it’s a bit too packed (this has rarely happened to me by the way, but would occur at the commercialized gym I used to go to)… the real time tracker will be your best friend.
Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review Daniela.

Taiara Matos: It's a great place to workout, they have a good amount of new equipment for cardio and old school for weight lifting.Usually not too crowded. Very clean place! There is a sauna and showers too, bathrooms are always very organized.

Felix Mazza: Been going here for years love the people and environment. Not like other gyms where people expect their weights to be picked up by an employee, people respect the gym and clean up after themselves. Staff is very friendly and always happy to give tips here and there. Not to mention has a great community lots of cool and encouraging people who will spot you anytime. Also the equipment is much better than most bigger gyms in the area, they don’t waste money on things that never get used and have cool stuff that a lot of other gyms I’ve seen do not. Would recommend RCSC to any prospective gym goers they’re worth the money and time.

Rob Gilpin: I’ve been a member for a few years. They take pride in keeping the facility clean. Throughout the covid-19 crisis the club has clearly communicated the expectation that members maintain a proper face covering at all times, I think the maturity level of the members has aided in this. Powerlifting friendly, with multiple platforms, squat racks, and benches. I have never paid for training services but the entire staff has always been congenial, and helpful.
Response: Thank you, Rob for your thoughtful review. It’s a pleasure having you in the gym.

Erin O'Hagan: Legit pilates classes, specialized range of group fitness classes and the best trainers!

Jenny Smolinsky: Rock Creek Sports Club is reasonably priced, and never feels over crowded. The locker rooms are always clean, have plenty of space, and have saunas and showers. There is plenty of cardio equipment and weights, and they offer several group classes throughout the day. The staff and management are truly some of the friendliest people I've ever met - they are so helpful! No one is pushy/sales-y like at other big gyms in the area. I'm so happy I joined this gym.

Hinda'sMusic BACKUP: There is not ONE fitness trainer that is practicing what they preach and not only that, they will hate on you if you are doing your thing because it makes them look bad (especially the big stomach blonde haired ‘trainer’) watch out for that dude, he thinks he’s the coolest, will ask you to get off the machine you’re using, do everything except focus on his ab crunching, and is highly unprofessional in his demeanor. This place does not welcome people who ACTUALLY want to come and workout on an advanced level - it’s meant for stuck up people who want everyone to stay below average, so if you mix in well and never train consistently - this is the place for you.

Lydia Neher: The first thing that is great about this gym is the cleanliness. I have not been to another gym that is as clean as this one. The entire facility is spotless. I’m also very impressed with the type and quantity of equipment at this club. The basement has everything you need for weightlifting and powerlifting. This gym also has a great community feeling. The manager, Hadji is wonderful, knows everyone’s name and makes you feel very welcome. The other members are friendly and approachable. So much better than a chain gym!

Brandon Grimes: Pretty cool gym. I can say I'm a fan for the price and friendly atmosphere. No only really acts like a prick so thats always a good thing. The prices are very good for a gym of their size. The big selling point for me were the olympic weightlifting style platforms downstairs. They have two, so if your an olympic weightlifter like myself then this is a nice option if you don't like to pay for crossfit boxes (which there is nothing wrong with =D). They also have showers and a sauna in each the mens and womens bathrooms. Fitness classes of all types and all different types of cardio machines such as Concept 2 rowers! Like I said for the price, you definitely get a lot of hang for your buck.

Dr. Valaida Wise: The best gym ever! From the moment you walk in the front door you're welcomed by the friendliest front office staff on the planet-makes you feel like you're part of the family. Manager Hadji greets you by name (how does he do that anyway?). Everyone seems to know who you are and care about your progress. But, top of the list for me has to be the personal trainers. My trainer Caity Adams is sunshine on steroids while still being a serious fitness expert. Her knowledge and total commitment has helped me lose 45 lbs and get into the best shape of my life. I love this place!

Reach Climbing + Fitness: what do users think?

Niharika Katuwal: This is the coolest climbing gym I’ve been to! The facility is huge, clean, has great amenities, and super helpful staff. There’s plenty of routes for all levels of climbers.

Mike Tojos: Good facility for climbing. There was a good variety of options for different skill levels and abilities. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and well-maintained. There are exercise machines available to use as well if you prefer not to climb. Parking could be a problem if you go during a busy time. Overall a good experience.

Malory Carberry: I absolutely love this gym. I was visiting my folks for an extended period of time and was so happy to have found Reach. There are other climbing gyms closer to my parents, but Reach was more than worth the drive. It is, by far, the best climbing gym I’ve been to in my decade of climbing all over the country. The staff was super helpful, the route setting was awesome and the amenities of both Reach and Factory were top notch. Now that I’m back in Chattanooga, I’ve found myself really missing this place. Get your butts in here and then go for a beer at Workhorse afterwards!

Robert Almy: My son and I joined Reach about 2 months ago and we are hooked. The facilities are top notch and the climbs change frequently so you’re not just doing the same stuff over and over. They have a gym so I can work out which allowed me to cancel my other gym membership. Parents night out is a cool option as well, drop the kids off and parents can have a few hours to themselves while the kids get tired out, have fun and make new friends. Most importantly my son has gained confidence in himself and that is a really cool thing to witness.

Henry Wadsworth: Reach is awesome! Me, my wife and daughter came in just for a single session of climbing. Unknowingly we got in on the early bird daily rate making it even more worth it for the 3 of us! It was pretty much empty in a Friday morning. Super clean, organized and well thought out. I will definitely come back when I visit Philly again. If I lived nearby I would undoubtedly become a member.

Josh Martin: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueAmazing staff. Very clean and well organized.

Ivonne Huertas: In P.A. for the Weekend with the family, we were looking to see what we could do. Came across this Rock Climbing Place. Let me tell you what an Experience! Very Nice helpful Staff & Clean Place. Will be back ! I recommend this place 👌

David L: A bit pricey for a day pass but great place to climb

Armando Valdez: Positive: Professionalism, Quality, ValueVery clean rock climbing gym. Loved bouldering here. Definitely challenged me and was an upgrade to the gyms back in Jersey! Recommend this gym to anyone visiting PA!

Qiran Shang: One of the few highlights of my one-year-up-to-now quarantine time! We usually come two to three times a week. The place is absolutely amazing, always exciting, always clean. Routes are changed frequently. All kinds of events are featured every week. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. So many great great climbers around you. I will definitely miss it when I move back to town post-COVID.

Equinox Sports Club Washington, D.C.: what do users think?

Daniel Caroe: Almost at the end of my year membership and will not be renewing simply due to the customer service. In my experience, a good amount of the staff are hard to work with and even snobby at times and its takes multiple calls and requests to get anything changed on my account. Here are a few examples of the troubles I have had: 1) I called twice over the summer to freeze my membership for a few months while I was travelling. They said this would not be a problem and that they would do it.......I called a third time about month later to find out that they did not freeze it and were still charging me. When I told them about the first two times I called, they said they had no recollection of this happening. Kinda a waste of money for me in that case. 2) I was having some trouble with my personal training scheduling and called to get in contact with the PT Manager. I called multiple times over the course of a week and each time they told me he was busy. They assured me I would get a call back from him but this call never came. (kinda annoying he could not take the time for maybe a 15min conversation) 3) I had to cancel a PT session due to illness (strep) which they said meant I would not be charged a cancellation fee for my session. They definitely still charged me, and again, it was impossible to get into contact with the PT manager. Overall, it's a great facility but I find the staff to be pretty inadequate and kinda rude (namely a front desk person named Shaniya and one of the club managers named Dwayne). I loved my trainer Evan (highly recommend) but in the end, I feel like I could get what I need at another gym with a nicer staff.
Response: Hi Daniel, we are very sorry to hear about this experience. It's definitely not what we like to hear. Please connect with us at concierge@equinox.com. We'd love to get additional details regarding this matter and investigate, allowing us to work towards making improvements going forward. Please be sure to mention your review so we can address quickly.

David Gershman: Today I signed up and had a great experience. Mike, in membership, not only showed me around- they answered every question with full clarity, gave me far more insight than I expected, and was simply very nice and sweet. I knew I was going to get a membership going in, but it’s nice to get warmth and comfort instantly upon arrival. Felt like I was one of the regular folks
Response: Hi David, thanks for the 5 stars!

June Wade: Scheduled a spa massage for my friend’s birthday at the Ritz Carlton/ Equinox (Foggy Bottom) location. The staff was courteous and the gym was clean. I was disappointed the spa does not offer champagne or snacks for special occasions, instead we were given “swag bags” full of gym advertisements and trinkets. If you’re not a guest at the hotel, arriving early is highly recommended (parking, etc). Must walk outside to enter Equinox since elevator access to spa is for guest only. My massage therapist was (Donna) friendly, courteous but chatty. I was not interested in talking about where I live, hearing comments about my “poor”elbows🙄 or asking why my shoulders were so tight during my 80 minute massage. Unfortunately , the massage was not good (technique). Ambiance was fair in the room, there was no soothing music or waterfall fountains, just dim lights, and a cool quiet room. The warm bed with robes was a nice perk. Not a fan of the massage lotion (dry paste) used, she had to continuously spend time stepping away from the massage to reapply. I’m giving this spa 3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️since my girlfriend had a positive experience with her masseuse. In addition, they provided a quiet space and champagne glasses for us to enjoy our BYOB champagne post massage. Would not recommend, lacks luxury for the price. $500+ ( 2 people)

Lauren Arquette: As all the other reviews said, horrible customer service. The club itself is fine, but don't try to bring a guest and don't try to cancel the membership because it's impossible and no one responds. I was a member for all of a week and tried to quit because I was told when signing up a guest of mine could come if I gave them that guests info. Gave them my guests info- they never put it in the system and turned them away at the door without even trying to investigate the problem/track down the person who gave my guest the ok. Was also told they hard certain equipment for rent when they didn't. If this was a planet fitness I wouldn't complain, but this is a $200+/month club that markets itself as elite. Nothing is elite about their customer service. Per the customer agreement you get 15 days to cancel and get a refund- tried emailing the manager for my refund, tried calling the concierge and nothing yet. I'd love to know if they actually even answer the emails they get when they respond to these complaints "sorry to hear about your experience! contact us as at..."
Response: Hi Lauren, please connect with us at Concierge@equinox.com. We would love to get additional details that led to this review so we can investigate closely. We would be happy to discuss this matter with you further if you'd like to share additional feedback. Please be sure to mention your review so we can address quickly.

TPMT Associates: Love it here as usual - they take care of the place and most importantly, the people who works out here take care of the place and is clean and tidy and doesn’t trash the place. As usual, it’s the people who come to gyms that are the messy/dirty and this place doesn’t have those ppl - not that I saw anyways!
Response: Thank you for reviewing!

John Heinemann: You get what you pay for. This gym doesn’t make sense for everyone, no one is a better person for going here, and a free gym in an apartment building is going to do 90% of what Equinox does. But the other 10%? I actually look forward to working out more when there’s both a sauna and a steam room, a saltwater pool, luxury bath products, memory foam floors for stretching, and refrigerators full of Eucalyptus infused face towels. I go for the amenities, and then I just decide to work out because I’m already there.
Response: Thanks for the 5 stars, John! Glad to hear you are enjoying our amenities.

Lena Fleischmann: Lots of amenities (pool, basketball court, steam room, sauna, soulcyle bikes...), good customer service, they constantly make improvements by adding products in the changing rooms like razors, hair ties, curling irons etc. What I don't like about it (apart from the price obviously): it's pretty much packed no matter what time you go which is annoying - wish they had a gadget in the app that would tell you how busy it is beforehand. Also, showers aren't always very clean.

Izabella Ritz: The club has a pool with saltwater which is very convenient, covid safety is great, the thing why I didn't join is no natural lights in a building, which is very important for me personally.
Response: Hi Izabella, we appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your experience. Thank you for the 5 stars and we will be sure to escalate your feedback to the appropriate teams.

Gelila Sebhatu: I called to inquiry about membership packages and I found the sales rep, Erica, a little rude and she did not directly answer my questions, which was irritating. Based on the reviews here, I’m not surprised I received this type of experience. I guess I’ll be looking elsewhere. I just wanted a nearby pool 🏊‍♀️
Response: Hi Gelila, we are sorry to hear you had this experience. We hope that you will give us another shot to show you we are capable of better service.

Ebony Williams: Do not work at equinox if you have living situation or just a situation period the manger Duane don’t care if you have living situation problems he even told one of the employees that mid shift is childish because we all going through something sorry if you hired people who have living situation or who gave problems and be careful of the Towels and hand towels they wash them in hot water only no solution that why the towels look a little dirty Yess I use to work their and got fired because I was trying to find a place to stay the days I called out because I was homeless the cleaning manger is horrible at his job and HR needs to send a Secret Santana to see how they clean the place

The St. James: what do users think?

Drea Dawson: Pretty impressive setup. Took a tour and way more than what meets the eye. The memberships are a bit pricey and could stand some adjustments. The entry fee for each event is pricey, but it seems like a good time so worth it for the occasional visit. For those without gym access it's a great deal monthly if you will come 4 or more days a week. The food area was very impressive as well as the kid area. Oh everything is timed and they are adamant about the time.

Rojina Al: The st. James Sports is a very awesome place. I went to this place in Springfield VA. with my kids and we had so much fun. They have many options gym, kids games, VR and online gaming, football stadium, water park, etc. As far as I realized food are restricted in many areas. Also, prices differ depending on how many hours you want to stay. However, this place offers membership. Also, the water park has different open days than the gym and the game places. So check their website. I couldn't buy tickets online so you have to call to reserve tickets. Very friendly staff. I recommend this place for family fun and birthday parties.

Ciara Long: A phenomenal facility to say the least! Our DC HBCU Alliance 5K was hosted here and I was truly impressed. Ample parking and the building exterior is beautiful but when you enter you see the gem that it truly is - areas for lacrosse, batting, wall climbing, weight and cardio training, saw there’s a water park as well as kid friendly areas as well. There were areas to shop with athletic gear including shoes plus a nice eatery. I’d love to come back on my own time and really experience The St. James for all it had to offer!

beyondTabu: It’s massive!! Everything from golf, swimming pool, basketball, ice hockey, football, restaurant, indoor play area, climbing gym, to an exercise gym. It’s a membership/ daily fee and it was pretty busy on a Saturday when we went to Super Awesome & Amazing indoor play. There’s also pretty good wifi in the entire complex.

Robert Christopher-Strayhorn: Incredible! Beautiful facility. Uniquely under a single roof, and great location for swimming, climbing, courts and fields, gymnast-ing, lifting, golf, ice skating, turf fielding, kid and adult parties, food and cocktails and more.

Ashley Kelley: A great place, atmosphere and very large. My kids and I love this place. Can't wait to go back. Big Field Areas

Marina Barchuk: Went on Thursday 3:30 pm ( they open at 3 pm -8pm ) told its 2 h waiting time , ok made reservations for 6 pm , when comeback was not busy at all and I paid for 2 h play time , VR was not working and computer area as well , and nobody know why . Then at 7: 30 ppl started to leave and employees started to cleaning up .so we left even dough paid till 8 pm . Place is ok I guess if you come yerly and make sure you make reservations.
Response: Hi Marina- Sorry to hear about your experience. To ensue you have a spot available in Super, Awesome, & Amazing, we recommend downloading The St. James App where you can make a reservation online. I will also escalate the VR & Esports issue to the Director of SAA for further review and action.

Nicole Scott: Something to do for everyone in the family. We drove an hour to come and explore their indoor Waterpark and trampoline/ fun center. Can't wait to do other activities.

Kelly Trott: INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS and most employees don't seem concerned with the inept functioning of the equipment in the "Super Awesome Amazing" area. There is no explanation on how to safely use any of the equipment at any part of the facility and on the obstacle course there isn't a stitch of padding below the 25ft off the ground course used principally by children. There is pure concrete below the climbing structure which seems to have faulty mechanics (doesn't move smoothly). Specifically there is a track that holds the harness the children are wearing as they move along the course but it doesn't move smoothly so the children (the smaller lightweight children can barely do this) are forced to drag it along with their one arm as they navigate a tricky course 25 feet off the ground. Little to no assistance is given when they get stuck and I saw employees sitting around on their phones rather than helping small kids navigate the course let alone help them move it. One employee was assisting but she couldn't do the work of the other 5 who weren't paying attention. It was terrifying to watch as a parent. The track needs to be fixed to run smoothly and padding needs to be added underneath the structure. This is dangerous equipment.

Tabitha Walter: I have been a member of the St. James for 2 months now, and I can’t say enough good things about the place! The staff is super friendly and hospitable. The entire facility is clean. They are consistently cleaning while I work out. There are many options to choose from when it comes to fitness whether it’s machines, free weights, cardio, various classes, sports-related activities, etc. I’m never bored there. Plus, it’s very family friendly and the fees are affordable. I feel great every time I’m there. The St. James has truly renewed my desire to be healthy.
Response: Thanks Tabitha! We're so glad to hear about your experience at The St. James :)

Philadelphia Rock Gyms - Wyncote: what do users think?

Nathan Runkel: This was my first experience rock climbing, and it couldn’t have gone better or been more enjoyable. From the second we walked through the door, Conner was so welcoming, helpful and informative, not just with the climbing techniques but also the facility itself. We will definitely be back and absolutely recommend.

Katie Reilly: Everyone who works there is SUPER nice, very patient, and very helpful. The facilities are clean, the music they play is good, and there are a lot of options when it comes to climbing here. My kids love it here too. It's a great activity for the whole family.

Kyle Milbrand: Instructors are friendly. Variety of walls. Convenient parking. Children's programs have been very positive experiences.

Jade Tuff: Challenging and fun. This gym is great as a group team building outing or a solo hobby pursuit. I came here on an Intro to Climbing package and I ended up getting a membership because I loved it so much. Your two week trial allows you to visit and get a quick lesson on bouldering and top rope (two separate days) for $45. If you sign up for a monthly membership that same day, the $45 goes towards your first month of climbing and you get rental equipment. The wall grips change once a month, which keeps it fresh and challenging. I can’t wait to take some of their climbing classes on hand and foot placement for bouldering. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. The staff even wished me a happy birthday twice when I came in the day before and the day after my birthday when I checked in. Every single one of the staff members are always willing to answer questions and help. If you are thinking of trying this and are on the fence, just do it! I absolutely love this gym and I know you will too. Happy climbing!

Christina Harris: Came here for date night with a Groupon and had a blast. The staff explained everything quickly and ensured we were comfortable with the equipment then let us climb. The walls were all pretty challenging for a beginner. The East Falls location has a better variety of courses but this was a fun activity.

Connor McHugh: Amazing gym, friendly staff, great gym all around. I have been a member for 1 year now and I love it. Great atmosphere for new climbers! If you are interested in climbing you should come here. This is one of the most beginner friendly gyms I have been to. Great routes and great people.. all around great atmosphere!

Mike McMenamin: Varied, interesting route setting. Staff is thoughtful and helpful, they’re all friendly and take the time to learn your name. Always available with beta, shoe recommendations, general encouragement and fabulous vibes. What more could a climber ask for?

ClownFish Extreme: Very good place to visit if you like wall climbing people were friendly and the place is clean, I have to say this place is definitely hard to find even with Google map GPS.

Katie Huynh: first time going to another gym other than reach (home gym - have been to gv radnor but not when i was seriously into climbing). loved the outdoor style setting and the large variety of climbs. small but mighty with some stellar staff members. def worth checking out!

Jessica Braun: This. Place. Is. Awesome. The staff are so friendly and fun and truly create such a supportive and engaging community! Smaller than some other gyms I’ve been to but still has lead climbing, 30+ top rope routes, and multiple walls of bouldering including overhangs. They make a great effort to make sure everyone has a positive experience.

Movement Timonium (formerly Earth Treks Timonium): what do users think?

Marissa Lynch: Amazing staff. I called in to ask if my very active, two year old could come in to try to climb as he is always scaling furniture at home. Over the phone, the staff was informative, kind and encouraged me to bring my son in at let him explore. Within an hour my family and I were at the gym and greeted by the very person I spoke to on the phone. The other staff was very friendly and sweet with my son. Although he didn’t climb much, he had a blast and we look forward to returning

Edward Zarkowski: Its cool, my kid really is enjoying learning to climb. I kinda feel like if I am paying $25 for an hour ($100 per 4 week session) or so, she should get to climb more than twice a week. There are not enough coaches working the walls. In her last class there were 3 coaches (instead of 2) and one of them was sitting on the floor playing "telephone" and other games for $25 an hour. Why? There were 10 kids in that class... How are they supposed to get climbs in if coaches are sitting on the floor playing?

Tyler Ahlfeldt: Amazing gym and very welcoming community. My daughter (8) and I both climb there. My daughter has joined the climbing team. The coaches and staff are fantastic and really take their time with the members and kids. The people that climb there are also very kind and helpful. Everyone seems to be there to support everyone else. Definitely recommended for a one off fun experience or to become a member and enjoy the climbing lifestyle.

Christopher Washington: Whether you want a challenge or to take your natural abilities to the next level this place has it for you on all levels. Instructors are bout knowledgeable and patient. Our first experience was unique and we can't wait to take it to new heights.

Joy Maz: Mia was so awesome & made my son’s drop in birthday session extra special. She was extremely patient and helpful. Employees like that make a business successful.
Response: Hi Joy, thanks so much for letting us know you had a great time here at Earth Treks! We'll make sure to give Mia that feedback. We're definitely happy to have her on our team! :)

Judgment Day: The Good: Now, I have only been here once, but the experience was fun. The instructors were extremely nice and good at their jobs. There were a variety of climbing walls. The equipment all looked very well maintained. The Bad: I cannot think of anything. The Judgment: A fun place I would not mind going to again one day.

Chris Marras: Definitely a fun experience! And that's coming from somebody who is in no shape or form a rock climber.

Kelvin the cloud: Recently had a group of 7 come in to climb for the first time. We where very well taken care of our instructors (Nina and grant) where very patient with us and definitely had a emphasis on safety and fun I will definitely be back
Response: Thanks for the review Kelvin! We look forward to seeing you at Movement Timonium again soon. We'll definitely pass along the feedback to Grant and Nina (they're pretty great right :)?)

Natarsha Smiles2: My boyfriend and I went yesterday. The staff is very nice and we had a lot fun. We can't wait to go back.

Andrea C. Morris: Small gym, but great, unique climbs for all levels. Wonderful staff as well!

Lerner Health and Wellness Center: what do users think?

Popa Joe: Nice and good cleaned 👌 recreation center.. two basketball courts, ..Mini golf course..,Full exercise room... Shower's an locker rooms.... Vip rooms with steam room and sauna ... Clean and sanitize everyday

Nivea Nanda: It's a great gym. Has indoor squash, table tennis and racket ball courts. Has a shallow swimming pool. The exercise equipment are well maintained and clean. One stop for all your physical workout needs. The weighing scales in the dressing rooms are ancient but accurate.

Denise Gardner: The covid-19 vaccination teams were good. But is you need to reach them prior to your arrival good luck I didn't to reschedule and that was an inconvenience.

Thomson Melson: It's an excellent gym in terms of space and equipment but the free weights section is usually packed in evenings which could be frustrating. Also they are either closed or operate on limited hours during university breaks which might not work well if you are not a student.

Mikayla Betancourt: All the equipment is old, delapidated and worn out. Machines dont adjust. The gym is tiny, and mostly treadmills. There arent enough weights for more than 10 people to work out at a time. Its like a cave. MOST IMPORTANTLY, there are NO sanitary whipes. Disgusting.

Shaun Coles: Air conditioning doesn’t work in the summer time. This has been on going for the 5 years I’ve been a member. Broken equipment not serviced in a timely fashion, blue floor mats are disgusting....maybe this is why multiple ppl claimed to have contracted MRSA from this gym. I wipe everything down before i used it. The vending machines take your money without giving you anything. Their summer hours are terrible, you might as well find another gym. Summer hours 6:30am-11 closed from 11-3 and reopens from 3-8p. They are closed during holidays. At times they are closed for 1-2 weeks at a time (for annual maintenance and various reasons) however, your Membership fee is never prorated. I really dislike this gym for those reasons. They’re cheaper and better gyms around but Ive stayed this long because it’s convenient to work. My membership fee is $40

Jon Davis: Although the equipment at this gym is very respectable, it is insanely crowded. If you do not go during off hours, it may be pointless to workout, especially for people who focus primarily on free weights and machines.

anik tarafder: Their website information and actual policy doesn't match.

erik miller: Excellent service, they get you in and out without wasting your time. I was surprised at how quickly they processed my information, and how courteous and professional everyone was during my entire visit. Thank you !!

K A: The suckiest gym I've ever been to. They have the most annoying rule about not allowing you put your gym back near you when you workout, not even your hoodie. I mean, you can't even put your freakin hoodie on the ground! And yet when someone else does it, it seems perfectly fine, so I guess it really depends on the staff's mood, not the "rule"
