Woodcraft of Washington DC Area: what do users think?

Symon Phoenyx: I'm a novice woodworker and this is the absolute best store in the area for my needs. Staff isways friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The store is always clean and presentable. They offer woodworking classes, and will even help suggest other ways to accomplish your task. They aren't cheap by any means, but they are easily appropriately priced for their products, it's just an expensive hobby. 😅

Michael A: I recently took up a little wood working and doing crafts and this place has all that you need to get started with your projects. I'm doing more woodturning now and the staff are all experts and able to set you up right for your project. The prices can be a little high on some items but they cater to quality in this shop. The machinery are all top notch equipment and you won't find the more economical choices here like you may at Harbor Freight or Lowe's. This shop has a smaller selection for those into resin casting compared to the Leesburg store but their online selection has anything you may be missing. They offer several selections of exotic wood blanks as well but some can get pricey but you are paying for quality so I don't mind the extra costs. If you're into wood turning, wood carving, making cutting boards and trays, or finish carpentry then you need to stop by and shop around. I'm a regular now and glad I found this place. It's the only place around for specialty wood working that I know of. You can buy everything you need to make the items shown.

Cara Nicole Stock: Really mind gentlemen here! Came in with zero knowledge starting a personal repurposing project and I was helped gently by the two guys who were working (I wish I got their names). Will definitely return for any wood making projects I take on in the future!

Chopped Champ: This store is a smaller than other locations, but carries a very good supply of tools (power and hand) and sundries for all your woodworking needs. Staff was very courteous and helpful and the store was spotless. They have a nice selection of milled lumber both domestic and exotic, but prices were a bit high in comparison to what I'm accustomed to as I usually purchase rough and do the milling myself. Store had tons of finishing materials in stock from dyes to topcoats. Parking is abundant as the store is located in a strip mall. This is a very good store for any woodworker from novice to professional with a range of products to help you start and complete your projects.

Leonid Matvyeyev: So there I was in this store, I needed nothing and yet many $ later I walked out thinking back if I needed any more. I bought some stuff that I did not need but wanted, a good selection of tools and the staff was very helpful. I have not been to many woodcraft and that other Woodworking store but they all seem as good as the others.

Vince Charming: Knowledgeable staff, plenty of class options, exotic wood, and hardware for DIYers like me! Similar to a Rockler, in a good way.

Ed Skinner: Changed a backordered item, and picked up three pen kits for Summer birthday presents. Amazing inventory! Great service!

Brad Moffett: Store has an excellent selection of woodworking tools, equipment and supplies. Lots of specialty tools as well for tiring, routing, jigs, and clamps. Prices are a bit higher than at the big box stores, but they have items the dedicated woodworker can't find there. I especially like their collection of vaneers. Plus, the staff there are always very knowledgeable. A trait you definitely won't find in the big box stores on a consistent basis.

Stacey F.: Very helpful staff and really love ability to use advanced tools for workshop fee and have an experienced person to help - really helped!! Note that most small supplies are a bit more expensive than Home Depot basics, but I suspect probably higher quality or more durable than the big box store. If you are able to, definitely support these guys!

Aida Dedajic, CAE: Amazing class! We did the date night and built a beautiful box. Our instructor, Nate Blodgett, was detail oriented, technical, patient, explained all the tools. It was so refreshing. We loved the experience and building something with our hands.
Response: Thanks for the feedback. We are extremely pleased that you enjoyed the class. Thx again..Mike

The team takes their jobs seriously and my grandmother and grandfather are happy and very well cared for. As a frequent visitor, everyone I interact with is cheerful and greets me with a smile. Woodcraft of Maryland: what do users think?

Jon Sribnick: WoodCraft was highly recommended by a serious DIY neighbor. Throughout our experience we found the staff exceedingly knowledgeable and helpful. We were in search of a natural edge wood slab for a bar top for a kitchen remodel. The staff took the time to work with us through the different options of wood, slab style and what the final outcome would look like. In particular Tosin went above and beyond to assist us in the process. We felt that he cared about our project and worked to guide us to options that matched our needs. The level of customer service he provided deserves 10 stars especially considering the challenges presented by the Covid 19 pandemic. Matt was very helpful in the introductory stages of the process. Ralph's knowledge and detailed instructions addressed the next steps in the preparation of the wood and ensured we had the correct tools and supplies. His shared experience was priceless, his enthusiasm was sincere and his wisdom was sublime. I have not considered taking a wood working class until I witnessed the passion Ralph exhibited in guiding me through this project. The whole team worked very hard to delve into their inventory to find exactly what we are looking for. The gentleman working in the warehouse prepared the slab with great skill and efficiency. We purchased a beautiful piece of walnut as you can see below. This piece will be a treasured part of our home and we have Woodcraft in Rockville to thank for it every step of the way. When you think of wood, you should think of them. September Update. Pictures of the final installation of slab. It worked out perfectly and looks great
Response: Thank you Jon for your kind words of recognition. Your patience and desire to create something special helped feed our enthusiasm.

Stephan Willis: Took the intro to lathe class with Matt. Had a great time, learned lots. The class was very informative but still had a light-hearted atmosphere.Would highly recommend.
Response: Thank you Stephan! We appreciate you coming in and taking the class as well as your nice review. Please come back!

Arjan P: Both Chris and Amy took all the time in the world to recommend options for a domino joiner and vacuum hoses. From cheaper options to more expensive. Due to Covid-19 it was curb side pickup. I love this store even though I have only been in there twice. They also showed great appreciation for my business!
Response: Thanks for taking the time to give us a shout-out Arjan. We try hard to please and your words make our efforts worthwhile!

Katelyn Bittleman: I've had good and very bad experiences shopping here. They have a wonderful selection of wood slabs and are willing to work with you to find a particular piece if you don't need it right away. Their staff is very knowledgeable about their products and love to talk about the projects you are working on. My most recent experience however was extremely poor. I had two oak newel posts I needed help cutting since I didn't have the right tools and did not want to purchase a large band saw for only 2 cuts, so I emailed the wood shop with my request and provided pictures and measurements. I spoke with Chris and someone else who assured me they could make the cuts at a reasonable cost, just to call ahead before I came it. When I arrived at the shop, I had to wait a little bit, which was understandable based on the amount of customers in the store, but when I started to work with Chris to have my cuts made, it was like he didn't even read my email or have any idea how to make the cuts. We discussed possible solutions, but Chris didn't seem to listen to my opinion at all and after 30 minutes asked how much I was willing to pay for this service. I said about $50 and was pretty much laughed at for suggesting such a low price. I was told he wouldn't help me, rolled my pieces out of the shop and walked away without another word. I was taken aback at how condescending he was and how little my input mattered. I was able to make the cuts on my own with some help from friends and some creative dado cuts, but it took much longer than it would have if I had a larger saw. In the end, I will probably still shop here, but I will NEVER frequent the woodshop again or sign up for classes with Chris.
Response: Katelyn, You obviously had an experience at our store that did not measure up to either of our expectations. I do appreciate your acknowledgement that we offer a robust line of woodworking products and that in general our knowledgeable staff are truly committed to helping our patrons find solutions to their needs, even if it means sending them to another provider. With regard to your specific experience, I did speak with Chris about the event. While he spent the time trying to figure out how to safely and accurately make finished cuts on the two 5”x 5” newel post, you also invested considerable time and effort only to leave frustrated and understandably, upset with the interchange. He obviously misread the scope of work and allotted insufficient time for the task which resulted in mutual frustration. For your having to bear the brunt of that, I apologize. I have no doubt that we could have done a better job of reviewing the project in advance and communicating the constraints we were experiencing that day before you came over. We consistently get high marks from our customers, but in your case, we fell short of the mark. I really do appreciate the time and effort you expended to let us know about the situation which I will discuss with all of our staff to improve the experience we deliver to all of our customers. Please feel free to call me directly if you would care to discuss the matter in person. Thank you. Ralph

rodrigo calderon: Great stock and the staff are experts in the field. Great experience buying here!
Response: Thanks so much for your kind words, Rodrigo! We try hard to set ourselves apart and we appreciate you noticing! <3

Mila Antova: I had a wonderful experience taking a class there! The instructor was very knowledgable and patient. I made a beautiful charcuterie board and a bread knife - a perfect gift for my friend's new home!
Response: Thank you kindly for your review Mila! Hearing of your experience makes our day! We hope that your friend loves it and please come see us again!

Mike Mikus: I am a local contractor and have been doing business at Woodcraft Rockville for many years. The level of customer service and product knowledge is second to none. Several times I have consulted the staff regarding various projects and have always received great advice. I have also required various tool repairs. Ralph ,Matt and Chris have always gone over and above in their efforts to get me up and running again ALWAYS. It is very refreshing to to do business with people who make you feel valued as a customer and also a friend. Being in the construction industry I deal with many other suppliers but always choose Woodcraft first. My Daughter, much to my delight, wanted to build a table for her new place as a father daughter project. She and I were given some great ideas and material/hardware to choose from after leaving she said "What a Great place they were so helpful".
Response: Mike, Thank you for you sharing your experience with us and our customers. We have made family inclusion one of our primary objectives. Woodworking is often viewed as a solitary endeavor but when we talk to customers like you, they tell us about how they developed their interest in woodworking from a family member and the personal bond that it created. We hope that we are helping to grow our community of woodworkers by encourages family projects through our education program which recently added Kid's Camp and Teen Woodworking classes. Thanks again for your comments.

isgp scienceforglobalpolicy: This a great store. I have purchased two pieces of expensive equipment from then and couldn't be happier. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful an friendly. I have not bought wood from them but they do have good looking stock.
Response: Thanks for you positive feedback. It really helps us to learn what our customers need to provide a solution to their woodworking projects and guides our internal training, demonstration and education offerings.

Switch Teech: The selection was exactly what I've come to expect from this top of the line woodworking store. & after I was able to get past one of the salesman's own judgemental issues the help came back up to par. Like I said though, it was only one guy. The store still rocks.
Response: Hi Andrew, so sorry that you were made to feel uncomfortable in our store. That's exactly what we don't want. If you have time to talk, we'd like to hear more about your experience and the staff involved so as to remedy the issue before it occurs again with you or another patron. Feel free to call and speak with either Chris, Amy or Ralph. Thanks for your continued support. We will strive to do better.

maikel barrosocruz: The shop looked really nice, first time over and would have loved to look around some more. Upon walking in I was barely greeted, I asked for the SawStops and after a few seconds of giving me directions to the show room, one of the employees finally decided to take me there and show it to me. We spent a few minutes playing with it, but I had already made my mind to buy it. All this time no one told me that there was none in stock at their store, of course no willing to sell the floor model either. What’s the point of showing me a model if I can’t buy one and the shipping takes over a month to the store. Long story short was a waste of a trip, to see some employees with no desire to talk to me and tell me I was better of ordering online for an internet xtra $100. I really like the store, and maybe I didn’t look like a savvy wood worker or who knows, but the costumer service was definitely lacking. If you are in the market for saw stop, do yourself a favor and order online, save the gas and definitely the trip.
Response: Maikel, Thanks for coming in. We apologize for not having the model of SawStop in stock at the time of your visit with us. All of the power tool vendors we represent currently have very long back order time periods. (anywhere from 7-30 weeks) Our Team was able to determine that our Corp. warehouse had several in stock at the time of your visit and encouraged you and your team to buy it through them asap. Not because we didn't want your business, just simply to attempt to help you locate one as soon as possible. Our Team did confirm when our next shipment would be arriving, but understandably it was longer than you could wait to purchase one from us. We hope you choose to shop with us again when possible. It is best right now to call into our store to check the timing/availability of any power tools you are interested in. (301.984.9033) Thanks. Matt
