DanceSport Dupont Circle: what do users think?

Jason Janke: We found Terry with only one month until our wedding day, and over just a few classes he worked with us to choreograph an elegant, yet achievable first dance for us (we came in with no prior experience). We even changed songs after our first lesson, and he was able to quickly change the style of dance to better match the different pace of song. We had fun with the resulting dance, which impressed our guests and brought out some tears. The space could occasionally get crowded with other classes going on, but it was never an issue. We were happy with everything, and enjoyed our time learning/practicing.

Adam Abramson: Terry is very knowledgeable and has good tips. It’s a fun class that I’ll definitely use at my wedding. My only gripe is that if there’s other classes going on, he’s really soft spoken so it’s hard to hear. Would recommend though! Especially if you want a choreographed dance.

Sharon Williams: Love Earl! He is a great instructor! Also love the salsa club he took us to to apply what we have learned. Looking forward to the next class!

Sam Young: Terry was great however it was very difficult to hear with two other classes happening simultaneously in the same room with their own music.

Louis L.: OMG, Terry is adorable. Clearly, he eats, sleeps and breathes everything related to dancing. I have known him to dance with students late into the evening--perhaps having a power snack in between--but never skipping a beat! He is patient and accommodating. My dance partner and I won 3 silver medals after Terry choreographed four fantastic Latin dance routines in preparation for our dance competition in 2018. I am forever grateful to Terry for his training.

John Farr: Great job of teaching the first dance wedding basics

Ariel Kramer O'Brien: Dima helped us put together an amazing first dance on our wedding day. He has the perfect balance of humor and direction, and it made the whole process quite enjoyable.

Rachel Unger: My husband and I had a such wonderful experience taking wedding dance lessons this past summer at Chevy Chase Ballroom with Dmytro Churchun for our September wedding. In fact, it was our favorite part of wedding planning and one of the best parts of our wedding day. We miss CC ballroom already! With ZERO prior social dance experience together, we were able to perform a hybrid foxtrot and swing dance 2:30 min routine that was a fantastic surprise for our family and friends. Dmytro was super encouraging and the most patient with our complete lack of rhythm and synchronization. He helped create a dance that was fun and very “us.” In the three months leading up to our wedding, we ended up taking 7-9 lessons though I’m sure most couples don’t need that many, we loved having the lessons to break up the tedium of other wedding planning tasks. We felt it was excellent value and well worth the investment. Dmytro and Irina are top notch at what they do and you cannot go wrong with Chevy Chase Ballroom no matter your skill level or time constraints!

Elizabeth Bellingrath McClure: Chevy Chase Ballroom is exceptional in terms of their dancing program. The atmosphere is friendly, fun, and inviting. Inviting to dance at every level, every style of dance. Dmitriy is very patient and thorough in terms of technique, style and grace. He is a very inspiring instructor. I would recommend Chevy Chase Ballroom to all levels of ballroom dancers, especially to the novice who never danced a step. In no time, you will be gracefully dancing on the dance floor like Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers--really!

Vahan Kharazyan: I Love CCB ballroom dance studio and there service.

Andrea Cas: (Translated by Google) Excellent dance hall, comfortable, spacious, good floor, excellent organization and good dancers to milonga! (Original) Salón de baile excelente, cómodo, amplio, buen piso, excelente organización y buenos bailarines para milonguear !!!

ALL2DANCE.com: what do users think?

Sarah Close: We came in for a dance lesson three weeks before our wedding without any clue and wanting a few tips for our first dance. Victor very quickly helped us pick out a dance and tailored his instruction to the ways that we both learn best (impressive, considering he had just met us!). Victor taught us in a very humorous and compassionate manner that made the entire experience fun. He also provided a number of helpful tips and reminders for our wedding day, beyond just the first dance, that really helped us stay calm and focused. We would highly recommend ALL2DANCE to anyone, whether or not they have a wedding to prepare for- it was a great experience!

Michael Koppes: Victor was a terrific instructor. He told us he would get us there and he did. My wife and I found our weekly dance classes a great stress relief while planning our wedding!

Lindsay Ridgeway: Wonderful teachers and a wonderful dance floor. Lessons from the fine instructors all year round, and showcases several times per year. A beautiful and addictive experience

E Triscari: Whether it is group classes or private lessons, the instruction at Capital Ballroom is professional, progressive and fun. I love the location and the space is excellent for beginners and advanced students alike. The wedding couples are so wonderful to watch and I just love the kids learning how to cha cha cha for the first time. Great place.

James Coltharp: Outstanding studio. Great instructors! Large floor with plenty of spacing. Positive dance community.

Sara P: World class instruction, easy to find and beautiful ballroom to dance in. Great view of the Bethesda area looking out the floor to ceiling windows. Learn from the best!

Jing Qian: Excellent place to dance ballroom and Latin. Especially for the Saturday night dance, you get 3.5 hours non-stop dancing with only $15 per person, a great deal.

Mattias Herrfurth: Very friendly and patient instructors.

Haydar Celik: Large dance space

Art of Movement: what do users think?

Hannah Steckler: Alyssa was referred to us through a family friend, and I’m so glad we found her. My husband and I had zero dance experience and wanted just a couple lessons to have some kind of routine for our first dance. Alyssa choreographed the perfect dance to our song - not too hard for us to learn but with a couple lifts and turns that made it extra special! My friends and family were super impressed at our wedding. Highly recommend if you are looking for lessons in the DC area !

James Christian: We couldn’t imagine a better teacher as my wife, myself, and my two left feet stood in need of two months of basic ballroom dancing to in preparation for our son’s wedding dance reception. We are an older couple who had no experience with formal paired dancing. Alyssa was extraordinarily gifted in orienting us to Hustle, West Coast Swing, and a couple of other dances. Alyssa was both patient and encouraging— and an amazing encyclopedia of moves and variations. And all of our dance lessons were never tedious, but rather always the greatest fun. And finally, after only a dozen or so lessons, we were able to literally “stop the show” at our son’s wedding dance reception. The whole floor of 30 y/o’s ended up stopping just to draw around, watch and applaud us! My wife and I love Alyssa and have now signed up for another dozen lessons!

Cait Beroza: I can’t recommend Alyssa highly enough! She taught my fiancé and I a choreographed swing dance for our wedding. In addition to choreographing an impressive dance, she was an amazing teacher. She was patient, professional, broke down complicated dance moves, and cheered us on when we needed encouragement. We would work with Alyssa again in a heart beat!

Joel Spiro: Katie and I had such an enjoyable and productive time learning a dance routine for our wedding with Alyssa. She is an extremely patient, clear and friendly instructor. We laughed plenty and always looked forward to our next sessions. The dance turned out beautiful and we’re so excited and confident to perform it at our wedding.

Roger Cushing: My wife and I have greatly enjoyed taking a five-week introduction to single-step swing with Alyssa! It looks like we are going to be able to learn how to dance even though we started fairly late in life (almost 70) and do not have prior experience or any particular aptitude for dance or music. This is a lot of fun. Soon we plan to start dancing in public and in the meantime, we like to dance in our living room twice a day. I notice that many couples sign up to prepare for their wedding dance. But this is an enjoyable activity even if your wedding was way back in 1975. We decided to sign up for another five sessions and I imagine that this will just become part of our ongoing lifestyle. After all, most tennis players I know have taken multiple private or group tennis lessons, sometimes for many years. Incidentally, Alyssa had a great idea for an intro to dance. She taught us a 60-second dance routine which we learned over the course of five weeks. There is a lot more to learn as we turn memorized steps into true dancing, but it is an excellent way to start.

Cecilia Rodriguez-Lamas: Positive: Professionalism, Quality, ValueAlyssa is such a great dance instructor. She was incredibly patient and came up with a whole salsa choreography for our first dance in only 5 sessions. I had some experience salsa dancing but my husband had zero and the dance turned out so amazing all thanks to her.

Kristina Podesta: We had so much fun learning from Alyssa! Her choreography was the perfect combination of easy to learn and impressive to watch. When we were struggling with something, she was so quick to troubleshoot with us and find an easy solution. It is awesome to feel this confident going into our first dance. Plus it was a fun way to take a break from stressful wedding planning and just do something fun with my fiancé. I would highly recommend!

Liam Mulcahy: Great instructor. She choreographed and helped us learn a dance for our wedding. She is patient, kind, and funny. 10/10 recommend and would do again.

Dan Flath: On vacation in DC, Laura and I took two west coast swing lessons from Alyssa. They couldn’t have been better. We learned a cool beginning move where Laura crosses in front of me before I dance forward. I had tried moves like this before but never with any success. Not only did Alyssa make it seem easy, but after we got home from the trip we could still dance it. I will schedule a lesson with Alyssa whenever I am in DC.

Forever Dancing Ballroom: what do users think?

Christine Heppner: I just recently had my renewal of vows and my dad and I wanted to do something special. A neighbor had worked with Forever Dancing for her mother/daughter dance and highly recommended the team. We did five evening lessons which worked so well with our schedules, and we learned different choreography to match the multiple songs I mixed together. I played the track for Fabio during our first rehearsal and he ran with it! We had a great time and everybody could not stop talking about the father/daughter dance! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!!!

Gabriel Glasser: Fabio took us from zero classical dancing experience to nailing our first dance. He gave us clear and honest direction, and constant motivation. I recommend Fabio to any couple!

Julie: I am a professional dancer--contemporary dance, improvisation, history, and dance-making. I have taught dance in universities and community schools for many years. I studied ballroom dancing many years ago and had a longing to return to ballroom dancing and learn more. I also wanted to support a local business in the dance community and I have found Forever Dancing Ballroom to be a treasure. Fabio is an amazing and gifted teacher. He is excellent in communicating both the technique and the spirit of each of the dances with passion and depth. Jennifer is attentive and thorough. She has provided great support answering questions and helping me prepare for competition. Fabio and Jennifer are a superior team of educators and are just plain nice people. Dancing is always fun when you get to do it with kind, fun, and awesome people!

Joseph Smith: Anu was a wonderful instructor!! We took private lessons at Forever Dancing to learn to dance for our wedding. We are new to the world of ballroom dance and Anu took the time to make the experience fun and easy to learn. She taught us how to ballroom dance and put together a choreographed dance routine to wow our friends and family. Would definitely recommend Forever Dancing for any dancing needs!

Andrew White: I was totally new to salsa dancing and signed up for an 8 week beginner course with Fabio and Jennifer. They did a great job of making the class efficient, educational, and fun. They also gave me at least one piece of individual feedback every single session. I practiced at home 1x/week and I also took a 2nd 8 week class with them before moving out of the area. I would highly recommend dance classes with this business.

Cah Abdalla: We booked 10 classes for our first dance and it was amazing! Our wedding became extremely special with our Brazilian dance. Fabio was awesome and very professional! We strongly recommend it!

Dynahlee Padilla-Vasquez: Thank you to Mateo for being an amazing dance teacher. We began working with him since November 2021 all the way through March for a 3.11.22 wedding. How fun and personable he has been — as well as understanding of our concerns and personalities. Thank you so much for giving us the tools and confidence to slay our wedding entrance and first dance. You rock, Mateo! Couldn’t have done this without you. -Dynahlee + Joseph

judith Albarelli: For the Albarelli Family Arlington Ballroom is like a second home! We have been dancing with Dmitri and Maria for four years! We both attend group classes and take private lessons. The ballroom is run professionally yet relaxed and fun and we have met such nice people there! We never dreamed that we would enjoy dancing so much but Jennifer and Dmitri have brought out the best in us! Thank you Arlington Ballroom for the confidence you place in us to become competitive dancers! This team of professionals really care about their students!

Michael Harvey: Positive: Professionalism, Quality, ValueI went here for a date night originally and ended up booking a private lesson package to learn salsa. Great studio and even better instructors. Thanks Jennifer and Dmitri!

Laurence: I just finished my 10th private lesson and will definitely continue. If you’re looking for something new, rewarding, and challenging take up one of the various dances they offer. It is close to metro and the staff has great vibes. I feel like I have learned so much more than just actual dance - like limits to your body’s mobility and proper posture.

Rachel Brown: Mateo was fabulous in helping us prepare for our upcoming wedding! We loved our experience at Arlington Ballroom.

Elmer Alvarenga: The best place to learn your babysteps to latin music and swing..Demetri is the best possible instructor in the DMV area..he and his friendly staff will make u feel at home..and walk you through to become a very good dancer

Cheryl Maynard: 1st time there. My nephew was in town from California so I googled places to do west coast swing in the DC area. He was in heaven! Everyone was friendly and the dance lessons before the dance were easily followed. I believe that I may go back by myself as it was loads of fun!

Toni Laich: Best place for dance on Friday nights! MadJam Productions! Beginner lessons every Friday.

Graciela Franco: Had my sister’s quinceañera there & it was amazing! Beautiful ballroom, great & friendly staff, & the place is so spacious & clean! 100% recommend

Dennis Tolliver: Nice large maple floor. Lots of parking. Nice people.

Alessandro Ghidini: Great location, spacious ballroom space, safe environment and interactions. My interest is international ballroom, but they have teachers also for American ballroom as well as se non-competitive dances, like salsa, merengue, bachata, night-club, hustle, etc. A great team of trainers, most with background in international and national competitions.

Warren Hall: Covid19 dancing. Good music. Great floor. Limited attendance so call to get on the list for Thursday afternoon.

Lucy J.: An enjoyable place to ballroom dance with good teachers, friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

CINDY EISELE: Friday night is a favorite with West Coast Swing dancers! Lesson included with admission so get there early. beginners learn free on the first Friday of each month! Hundreds of fun dancers.

Dance Studio Lioudmila: what do users think?

Paul Tannous: I have been a regular client at Dance Studio Lioudmila for almost three years, taking both private and group lessons. It is a beautiful facility with a warm, talented staff and a friendly clientele. The studio occupies the entire second floor of a stand-alone brick building in a quiet location with ample free parking, less than five minutes from the beltway. The entry stairs come up into the center of a remarkably large floor that is surrounded with windows and large mirrors, giving it an open, light-filled look. The wooden dance floor is in excellent condition, with great shock absorption and uniformity, and the right level of friction to support all levels of dancing. The founders of the studio, Lioudmila and her husband Serguei, were champion dancers in their native Russia before coming to the U.S. Lioudmila has engaged a cosmopolitan group of instructors with Russian, Italian, American, and Latin backgrounds. All of them are accomplished dancers and many of them compete regularly. Most importantly, they are experienced teachers who are adept at working with students of all levels, making them feel welcome and secure in their classes. The studio offers all forms of smooth, rhythm, and Latin dancing in both group classes and private lessons. It also offers monthly memberships that give you unlimited access to the group lessons and weekly dance parties at a great price. The studio caters to wedding couples as well. I have seen many of them over the past two years, and they always seem to enjoy their lessons. Lioudmila has instilled her studio with elegance and refinement, as well as warmth and laughter. She makes her students feel that they are part of a dance family, where we all support each other. Many of her students are regulars who have been coming for years. Whether you’re just a beginner or an experienced dancer, you should visit this studio. I highly recommend it.

Alexei Markel: Beautiful studio with an excellent complement of talented instructors. The atmosphere is always cozy and friendly. Group classes are perfect for complete beginners or those who just want to add some moves to their repertoire!

Jairo V.: Great studio with lots of floor space, a variety of classes ranging from Latin to traditional ballroom, and friendly instructors.

Meghan May: Maria was awesome! We signed up for the 5 dance package prior to out wedding to get ready for our first dance. We are super uncoordinated and my fiance was really nervous. We ended up having so much fun and feel completely prepared. Would highly recommend and sent the info along to our wedding planner as well so she could make recommendations.

Nicolaus Craig: This is a great facility, with lots of floor space. Group classes are currently in person and online. Private lessons are available in person in studio. From wedding lessons to individual lessons for competition or showcases this studio has highly experienced staff.

Samantha Benjamin: Enzo is pleasant and skilled at teaching. It always helps make things easier when your instructor loves what they do!

Randall Knol: I take lessons from Lioudmila, very professional and elegant teacher with attention to detail for people who want to get better. The floor is large and floats so easy on the feet and knees. The dance community is friendly and helpful. Great place to meet people with the same interests and have fun.

Harold McClendon: My wife and I decided to stop by on a Friday night to practice our ballroom dancing. It was a terrific dance floor and large enough to handle all of the dancing. The recorded music was excellent. And best of all, they let us dance for free.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Silver Spring: what do users think?

Jessica Oliver: I found a Groupon for Arthur Murray and it was an awesome deal! My (now) husband and I took a couple of private dance lessons a week out from our wedding. We worked with Sydney and she was amazing at teaching us a few steps for our first dance and making us feel a lot more comfortable about it. The classes were also a lot of fun and everyone who works there is extremely friendly and welcoming; I definitely plan on going back again some time! Thank you guys for your help!

Megane Muluh: Sydney was amazing. I loved her energy, excitement, and patience. She definitely convinced me and my fiancé to take some more classes for our wedding.

Carolyn Olsen: We love the staff and instructors at Arthur Murray, Silver Spring! Everyone is so friendly. The instructors are very skilled and do a great job of customizing our lessons to our abilities and interests. They also have helped us by making videos of parts of our lessons so that we can practice at home. Learning to dance at Arthur Murray, Silver Spring has been lots of fun. The pandemic has been a challenging time. The staff and instructors have done an amazing job of providing a safe environment...masks, hand sanitizing, socially distancing, limiting the number of people, and cleaning. For those who may prefer them, private and group Zoom lessons are available, too.

Margaret Anderson: At my request, my husband bought me dance lessons as a Christmas present. We enjoyed a series of group and individual lessons from very professional and fun teachers near our home in Silver Spring. Arthur Murray Dance Studio instructors were fun and relatable that it was absolutely enjoyable. We picked up some good dance steps and like practicing dancing together at home.

Billy Patterson: If you want to learn to dance and meet new people Arthur Murray Dance Center Silver Spring is where you want to go. I have been going there for several months and the experience continues to be delightful. The facilities are first-rate. The instructors are exceptional and caring and the whole environment is welcoming. The learning experience is comfortable in that you can go to weekly group classes and practice parties to augment your private lessons. There is also a weekly dance where you can put it all together and just have a good time. You can do as little or as much as you like. If you want a comfortable, fun place to learn to dance, join me at Arthur Murray Dance Center Silver Spring.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Alexandria: what do users think?

Katelyn Stuver: When I first started at Arthur Murray Alexandria I did as a way to get ready for my wedding. Then it turned into my therapy…Now it has turned into my family! The instructors are super friendly and always want to make their students feel welcomed. I highly suggest AM. If it’s for a wedding, a hobby, something to do..once you start you don’t want to stop.

Nicolaus Craig: This dance studio currently moved to empty space next to their future facilities, but are expected to move into those facilities by the end of April 2022. The staff is very attentive and friendly. All levels of dancers feel welcome and students support each other.

Gregory Surh: While both my wife and I had some experience in the performing arts (my wife is a musician, and I have experience in theater, band, and dance), it was clear we needed some professional help to get our wedding dance where we wanted it to be. Rebecca at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Alexandria, VA, was excellent. She immediately was able to assess our strengths and weaknesses and helped meet us at our respective skill levels. She also listened to our song, and intrinsically knew exactly what kind of look and feel we wanted our dance to achieve. Best of all, rather than teach us a set choreography, Rebecca taught us how to properly lead, follow, and adapt to different dance floor sizes, meaning that every time we danced it ended up looking a little bit different, but also that we would be ready for anything when the actual day came. As our skill and comfort level improved, and we wanted to add a few more steps and moves into our routine, she not only incorporated more advanced training into our classes, she went out of her way to work with her studio for us to keep a “new student discount rate” for a few more classes when we asked for it (we had originally signed up for 6 lessons as opposed to 10 lessons, but she worked to keep the rate for an additional 3 lessons upon our request to give us the additional time needed). The first dance can be a stressful thing to think about prior to the wedding, but Rebecca helped us through our nerves and stumbles during practice. The day of the wedding, my wife and I walked into the reception with confidence and comfort, and not only had a lot of fun with our dance, but also looked really good doing it, at least according to our guests! None of this would have been possible with Rebecca’s skill, patience, and excellent ability to teach both how to lead and how to follow…thank you!

kEN cROUSE: My wife and I have been taking lessons at the studio in Alexandria for about four years now. I had resisted taking lessons for so many years but finally decided to take the plunge. The instructors are patient and professional. When you purchase your private lessons there are group lessons available at no additional charge and there are, prior to COVID, weekly dances. The instructors are available to dance with along with other students. The total package is worth the price, if you want to learn to dance, make a new circle of friends, and have a place to go dance and be with those friends then this is the place to be.

Ryan Henderson: I’ve been attending Arthur Murray for over a year now. I appreciate their flexibility in scheduling and the protective measures they’ve taken to keep students safe and healthy during these crazy times. They’re a great, diverse, and talented crew willing to help you learn advanced styles and moves or simply be more comfortable on the dance floor. I highly recommend regardless of your skill or comfort level!

Emily Cooley: I came into Arthur Murray Alexandria from a Groupon over 3 years ago and it has honestly changed my life. I’ve always loved dancing at clubs or with friends, but it never occurred to me that I could learn how to actually dance, until I stepped foot into their studio. The instructors are amazing and truly tailor their lessons to each individual’s goal, whether it be just to learn to social dancing or even compete in amateur competitions. The group classes are challenging and fun no matter what level you are at, and the people there are warm and welcoming. I have grown such an amazing dance family there over the last 3 years, and even through challenging times with Covid, the studio and its staff have adapted to meet all safety guidelines and still make dance just as fun as ever. They have social distanced lessons, group classes, and social hours in studio as well as being able to participate in all of those through zoom. To anyone who is thinking of learning how to dance, all I can say is YOU CAN DO IT, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to try.

johnny tech: Arthur Murray Dance Centers are not just a place to learn to dance. It is a community in an of it self. You not only learn to waltz and cha cha, you build friendships with your instructors who are always challenging you to do your best. You build confidence in yourself and your partner. You will learn to move your body in ways you did not think were possible. There are also the friendships you build with your fellow students. You can count on them to encourage you and build you up.

Elena Yakovleva: I’ve always wanted to learn how to dance, but was afraid to start. After turning forty I decided if not now then when? I chose this place based on reviews and I’m absolutely loving it! The staff is very welcoming, they make you feel safe and supported! I love the idea of having private lessons and also access to all their group classes as well! Can’t recommend them enough!

The Salsa With Silvia Dance Studio: what do users think?

Summer Brouwer: There’s a reason why they have 5 stars! I never had the luxury of attending dance classes. I just moved here cross country and wanted to try a new experience. I was very hesitant, and very nervous, but I bought the new student pass for $100. The pass allows you to attend unlimited group classes for the month. It’s about a week into the session and I am in love with dance! They have many different instructors and many different styles of dance. I felt at ease learning with other students of my skill level and the energy of my instructors helped me feel so comfortable as well. If you’re on the fence about whether you want to try it or not, GET OVER IT! I love it here and you will too!

Reema Bhardwaj: Salsa with Silvia is THE PLACE TO BE. Whether you’re looking to improve your dancing, rent their beautiful studio for your private event, or bring your kids for an experience. You will leave feeling satisfied and happy that you took the step to come in. There is a reason this studio is the #1 Latin Dance studio in the DMV. You can feel the love that was put into the studio from starting out in just a basement to two studios! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The teachers are patient, understanding, and energetic. The adult dance classes are always so much fun and filled with great material you can take with you. They even allow videos to be taken so you can look back to review. And the owner Silvia, she is a boss lady. Very friendly, helpful, and fun. If you’re looking to have a great time with your friends, learn, teach your children dance, or have a private event, come here & don’t waste your time calling other studios!

Zey: Salsa with Silvia is more than a dance studio. Lots of magic happens there. You’ve got all the basics- amazing instructors, good variety of classes in style and level, a professional business, and a safe and reliable environment. In addition, you learn how dancing is about much more than just moving your body. By joining the studio you enter a community, so you meet amazing people and make new friends. The owner Silvia is always engaged and she is always willing to help. I have been going to the studio for about 2 years now, and the instructor I have taken the most number of classes with is Joffre. I always had a thing for salsa, but he is the one who really made me love it. Joffre is technically very competent, and he is also a great teacher (which is not always a given). He is also a warm and genuine person, who is very open to feedback. And as a bonus, he has the best taste in music, I learned the best songs/ artists I know from him. In short, if you are interested in entering the world of latin dancing, SWS is the place for you!

Marcia de Jesus: I joined Salsa with Silvia in its Georgia Avenue location in January of 2018. During the first 5-6 months of 2018, I was at the studio pretty much every weeknight and all day on Saturday. The studio offers an unlimited-class plan, and you bet I signed up for that and took full advantage of it. My plan of taking as many classes as possible in a short amount of time to improve my dancing skills fast was one of the reasons why I was at the studio all the time when I first joined. The other reason was the people I found there – and they are the reason I keep going to this day. Incredible human beings have worked at SWS over the years, who have helped me feel comfortable as I engaged in a new and at times challenging activity. Among the front-office people, I must give a shout out to Gary. For a long time, he was the face of SWS for me, the person I reached out to if I needed anything. I miss you at the Georgia Avenue location! Among the instructors, I’m sorry for picking favorites (all instructors are great in their own way), but Joffre has always been my guy. Not only is Joffre a very good dancer, but he is also an excellent instructor. He knows how to break down and explain the moves (including teaching how to respect personal space and make sure nobody gets hurt while executing moves); he meets the students where they are (skill-wise) so nobody feels discouraged nor bored; and he tries to make sure everyone is having fun as they work on their dance skills. I felt challenged in Joffre’s classes, but also reassured whenever things got difficult and potentially frustrating. He has certainly helped me become a better dancer and I am grateful for that! Finally, SWS is the place where I found a safe, fun, open community and made very good friends. SWS has become a part of my life, a place I associate with happy things!

Darniesha Beach: Took my 2 year old to the babies dance class and the teacher was great. Very good with little ones and my daughter took to her immediately. The class was empty just 2 little ones including mine... but she still managed to fill the time and make it fun. Everything was very clean and location is nice if you want to make a day of it. My only complaint is the time; my daughter has to skip a nap to attend. She was super cranky so I don’t think we’ll be back until a different time slot is available or she no longer needs her afternoon nap. A class between 9&12 or at 5 would be cool.

DC DanceSport Academy: what do users think?

Alina Trifonova: I am very pleased with the Dance Sport Academy services. My 3 y.o. daughter is taking baby ballet classes with Ms. Vera, who is exceptional in professionalism and communicating with small kids. Her lessons are diversified in the types of activities and movements and geared towards accommodating the needs of the little ones, introducing them to the world of dance and music. Great experience! If you have an active toddler, I strongly recommend classes with the DC DanceSport Academy, and especially with Ms. Vera!

Sophia Jones: This studio provides some of the highest quality dance training I have ever experienced due to the expert instruction. I have trained with Lydia for many years and cannot wait to come back to classes in person! Highly recommend to anyone interested in trying ballroom or looking to advance their practice.

Monique Kramer: I absolutely LOVE this dance studio!! The group classes and instructors are top quality. Lydia, the owner, is friendly, cheerful, positive, and very patient. She is always bringing new ideas to the studio via workshops, guest instructors, special events, and show cases. Katie and the rest of the staff are always pleasant. I wish I could spend my entire day here!!

JUDY JAMES: DC DanceSport Academy provides quality instruction to all levels of dancers in a lovely and professional studio. Highly recommend this studio for all those wanting to learn to dance, regardless of age and dance experience, but especially for the serious dancers who are involved in competing and performing. Lydia organizes several elite workshops, and dance camps a year for both adult students and for her much younger students, and brings in the best world champions to teach at these workshops. The group classes offered are exceptional, ranging from basic technique classes to more advanced master classes, and practice rounds. Lydia is an amazing, encouraging, enthusiastic, technical, and talented teacher, and what I love most about Lydia, is that she never stops learning and growing as an instructor. Whether it’s a private lesson with Lydia, or participating in a group class, watching Lydia’s body movements, and her flair for styling, is inspirational for me. As a woman, learning from a woman is equally important for me. Lydia will make you feel beautiful and special, while inspiring you to move your body in ways you never thought possible.

bob Hsieh: The very best of learning experience with a world class instructors. Additional visits for seminars by other world class dancers. I feel lucky and happy to be part of Lydia’s teaching world. My fellow students all love her and the teaching we get.
