Cathy Connor: Stephen and Lawlor Architects have worked with us--Cathy Connor and Michael Timmeny--on three large projects culminating in the design of a brand new second home/beach house in North Shores, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. First, we worked with Stephen on a total overhaul of lower level of our 1897Capitol Hill townhouse, which included digging out and lowering the basement floor and installing new footings and foundation, creating a full bath, family room, laundry room and utility room and replacing numerous utilities, including heating, air conditioning and hot water. The second project was a renovation of our 1st floor and kitchen, which stripped the room down to the dirt floor and brick exterior walls, as well as renovating the adjacent family room and creating a backyard built in bbq grill and new patio. The most recent and biggest project was designing, planning and managing the construction of a brand new home in Rehoboth, Delaware. We knew Stephen could handle any type of project on historic DC townhomes, but he really surpassed himself on our beach house! Stephen and his team are great to work with. You get Stephen’s undivided attention. He is very easy to work, an excellent communicator, extremely innovative, organized and detail oriented, and most importantly, patient, and responsive. We really enjoyed collaborating with him. He listens, is flexible, is excellent at incorporating your needs, and is very fun to work with. We have total trust in his skills and his vision. Stephen works wonderfully with the construction contractors- whether he knows them well or is new to working with them. He is great at building relationships with all parties while at the same time troubleshooting any issues, which may arise throughout the entire process. The beach house was a major undertaking. We only agreed to proceed once we knew Stephen was available and willing. This was a two year project, most of which occurred during the pandemic. Stephen never left our side; he was a calm and consistent presence whom we never doubted would produce a stunning house that we truly love and is the highlight of the neighborhood! We receive numerous requests for the name of our architect from those who have seen the house. With features including a beautiful pool/patio/screened in porch, solar panels and other green technologies, a bridge connecting the two wings of the house, a two-story glass great room, and a gorgeous primary bedroom suite reached by elevator from the garage, the house is a true architectural gem.
