SafeSplash Swim School - Columbia Heights: what do users think?

Greta Miner: I am a very proud Grandma and taking both my little ones to swim class is the delight of my day. I chose Safesplash for the location(they have many), the owners Jennifer and Michael, and the competent and caring instructors. The girls have been taking lessons since they were about 6 months old and now the 4 1/2 year old is doing freestyle swimming the entire length of the pool and the 2 1/2 year old is catching up rapidly. I am beyond thrilled with their progress and it’s a testament to the owners and their staff.

Lauren Coonen: I took my 8 month old here for his first swim class. Tyra and Sydney were the instructors and they were excellent! They were knowledgeable and friendly. At this age your just getting your baby used to the water. Bouncing them, getting their ears and face wet, holding their belly’s and encouraging them to kick. They had toys and a large floating surface for the babies to take turn playing on. Highly recommended!

Aja Shabazz: Jennifer was very helpful and understanding! Great small business

SafeSplash Swim School - Friendship Heights: what do users think?

Antonina Bernstein: Our son Tad has been attending Safe Splash for over a year. Initially he was a child slightly scared of water, disliked getting his face wet and didn’t want to let go of the adult helping him. He now jumps into the pool fearless & actually swims. The staff was always attentive, cheerful and passionate about helping their students master or hone their skills. The 30 minute private lessons are definitely the way to go!

Amanda Gilman: My children came to swimming at a later age, 9 and 10. Safe Splash was absolutely perfect for them! They were able to learn together in a non competitive environment with caring instructors. They both loved learning to swim, and my son overcame his fear of the water! After a year, they both qualified for swim team! I cannot recommend the company more highly!

Ashra Maude: Our children have been taking classes with SafeSplash for a few months now and we are extremely delighted with their progress. The coach has been wonderful and nurturing with them. The staff is supportive and fun to be around. We were, at first, a little scared to start swimming lessons because of the pandemic, but the owners, Michael and Jennifer, have done a tremendous job at following the safety protocols that ensure everyone can enjoy swimming safetly. They are communicative, flexible and just lovely people. We highly recommend SafeSplash.

Gen R: SafeSplash has been amazing for my 3 year old son. He has been taking lessons for nearly 2 years and has made so much progress. He is now very comfortable in the water and has started to swim on his own. He always loves his instructors and they have been really great about helping him come out of his shell. They are very supportive and encouraging and let him go at his own pace while still challenging him when they know he can do it! We LOVE SafeSplash and are so grateful for the care they put in teaching our son how to swim and be safe in the water. THANK YOU! They have also made sure to be very cautious when it comes to COVID. Our son is in a class with only 1 other student who we know and who’s family is as careful as we are about taking precautions. We are also so grateful that the staff is willing to wear masks to protect our children.

Caitlin Clark: We have been with Safe Splash for over a year and are so happy to be back safely after time off due to Covid restrictions. Not only have the owners been incredibly transparent about all the precautions they are taking but the instructors have been so reassuring to my twins who were excited but nervous to start back up again after months off from lessons. I highly recommend these swim lessons. They teach children how to swim in a very thoughtful and strategic way.

Melissa Kaplan: I’ve been taking my daughter to Safe Splash for years and it’s been an amazing experience. The instructors are kind and encouraging, making the lessons productive but also a fun experience for my daughter. The owners, Jennifer and Michael, run their business with care and professionalism and are clearly invested in making the experience valuable for their clients. The price is a very good value compared to other swim schools in the area. We love Safe Splash!!

Brookland Swim Academy: what do users think?

Andrea Bourque: We signed our toddler up for spring lessons with Brookland Swim Academy. The morning of (like 90 minutes before) our first lesson the owner, Jerry, told me my payment didn’t go through and also told me the lesson was canceled due to an issue at Deanwood Aquatic Center, but that it would be rescheduled. I’ve since tried for nearly 2 weeks to get in touch, but the mailbox is full and the owner doesn’t return calls. I called Deanwood this afternoon and was told that Jerry does not have a permit to operate at DC recreation centers and was not allowed to operate a business/teach swim at their location. A real bummer as we were really excited to bring our daughter to lessons!

Jacquie Frazier: Echoing review below. Business is non-responsive and has not communicated with clients regarding canceled classes, etc.

British Swim School of Patapsco Valley: what do users think?

Val Magnolia: The staff is fantastic, classes are fun and swim skills are progressing quickly. We are always greeted with a smile by Maya and she keeps the equipment sanitized and safe between classes. Couldn’t be happier with BSSPV!

Cpuglia11: This school had very poor Covid-19 safety protocol and even worse customer service. I pulled my daughter out shortly after enrolling her the instructors only wear disposable masks which are wet for several classes. They don’t enforce any kind of mask requirement for parents in or around the pool and they don’t sanitize toys or tools used between classes. After loosing my mother to Covid I wasn’t comfortable with their lack of safety protocols. I have called and emailed for over a month with no avail and continue to be charged.

Trina C: Great staff and great value for the price! The adult classes are fun and easy going! I never felt intimidated or embarrassed and kids leave the pool when it’s the time slot for the adults. After a month, I was actually swimming! I would highly recommend!

Stephen Majerowicz: We are so impressed with the instructors at British Swim School Patapsco Valley. The care they take with their students shows real dedication to teaching.

Adelaide May: I was so impressed by how great the staff is at British Swim School Patapsco Valley! They make the kids comfortable by providing a safe and fun environment to learn how to swim.

Plush threepeater But the picture is horribly taken: I love how the teachers have such patience. My son loves swimming and it is great that he is not afraid of the water anymore. Great school . People are great .

Rhoda Kroeker: The British Swim school/Patapsco Valley instructors are knowledgeable and so patient! My children look forward to each lesson.

Erin Majerowicz: The instructors at BSSPV are great! They make learning a lot of fun for the students!

WeAquatics: what do users think?

James Keller: We love WeAquatics and highly recommend the ISR classes! Coach Brad has been phenomenal with our 18 month old son and we are amazed at what he has learned over the course of the last 6 weeks. We can’t wait to continue with maintenance courses and for him to learn even more. Coach Brad and David are great and if you are thinking about ISR classes look no further, you will love WeAquatics!!

Shawn K: David at WeAquatics is a phenomenal swimming coach for infants and kids. We started working with David about 4 years ago when our first son was about 10 months old after David had been highly recommended to us from a friend who had herself 3 boys who he had coached. He was extremely pleasant and friendly and took things on a gradient so that my son warmed up to him after a few sessions- and he was totally willing to work with us on our input as parents because seeing our kid get accustom to swimming as new parents was terrifying :) After that, we had David back each summer after to teach our 8 month old daughter and then the year after for our second son- and he gave touch up lessons to the older ones too. It all worked out great and Dave was totally cool and flexible on everything from schedule, to multiple lessons, etc. We actually just had him back again this summer for another set of touch up lessons- he really is committed to doing what it takes so that our kids ended up as confident swimmers. Thank you David! ML, The Kimmels

Kimberlee Simpson: We had already tried 5 other rounds of swim instruction in various other states before landing with WeAquatics in Alexandria, VA. The ISR lessons with WeAquatics were by far the best swim instruction we have received. After 6 weeks both of our boys can rescue themselves if they were to accidentally fall in the pool. My 4 year old can actually swim and is working on strokes now. My baby loves the water and is so proud of himself that he can flip over and float. Both kids are confident in their skills and there is really no price you can put on the value of their safety. If you are on the fence about the time commitment just go for it! It is so worth it!

Diplomatic ERA: We initially tried other swim schools in the DMV and were less than impressed with the level of instruction and lack of progress we saw in our son’s ability to learn how to swim. We felt like the classes for small children/babies consisted of parents in the pool with their children doing a lot of splashing, playing, singing and just about everything other than giving our son swim skills. Not that playing with your kids in the pool isn’t fun, but we don’t need to pay a swim school to do that. Anyway, all that changed when we found We Aquatics and started classes with Mr. David. We started with the ISR lessons and within the first week we saw great progress. Since then my son has mastered ISR and is now working on perfecting different swim strokes. Mr. David is an exceptional teacher and his calm demeanor, expert knowledge and teaching skills makes this the best option in the DMV area for swim school. The other instructors are also top notch. Our only regret is that we didn’t discover We Aquatics earlier!

Hossein Noshirvani: David and his team are courteous professional and are quite frankly amazing at what they do! Next step is turning my toddler into the next Michael Phelps!

Tanya Smith: The staff were great with the kids and very pleasant.

Edlavitch Jewish Community Center of Washington, DC: what do users think?

Hilma Wright: Trying to book swim lessons for our son. Registration closed online 2 or 3 days after I looked it up and the instructions were to send an email for registration. The person that is in charge of Aquatics, this Brittany, is completely and utterly unprofessional, unresponsive, doesn’t answer your questions or phonecalls and takes forever to reply. I have been trying to register now for maybe 4 days!

Eric Hanson: The gym is a "hidden gem" in Dupont Circle. Small but has everything you need. Off-peak hours discount avail.. The whole gym will be yours if you go before 4pm. Ms. Howell is really nice.

Angela Obstein: Anything I’m saying has been observations while visiting or things I’ve heard from workers that has led me to write a review on the preschool here. At this school, there seems to be a lack of structure. No staff or employee seems to know what is going on on a day by day basis . This can be observed just solely based on how the school is ran. The vibes of the people are a little off and it seems to be a very messy place. I don’t personally think students benefit much from it. There doesn’t seem to be a curriculum / lesson plan that ACTUALLY teaches kids 123’s or ABC’s , you know, essential things young kids need to move forward. I had an opportunity to speak to a few workers and the following are complaints or concerns : future well being of kids( due to no lesson plans and no school discipline - apparently you are forced to deal with outrageous behavior), the work environment ( apparently it is a very “messy” place and it shows ), and also, the overall future of the school ( with the lack of structure it is hard to know what will happen)

Heath Stewart: I tried calling to reserve a racquetball court and they were very unresponsive. I wanted to play racquetball and was fine with paying the visitors fee. After many phone calls and several voicemails they finally answered their phone but then did not help with what I was calling about. All they tried to do is push buying a membership. I was very disappointed with their service to say the least.

Lisa Paquette: The DCJCC overall is a wonderful place. First, the gym was recently renovated and has good equipment. They also offer a nice variety of exercise classes such as spinning, zumba, body pump and more. The best part about the gym is that the price of membership is less than that of other gyms in DC, so you really get your monies worth. The JCC is also a great venue to see shows or attend any of the other awesome cultural events they host. The staff are friendly and welcoming. You feel like part of a great community!

Nicole Lohr: Saw a play here and it was a great, intimate playhouse. Friendly staff.

Alison Rubin: Awful unfriendly place unless you have money...

Sam Greenberg: Great, friendly resource.

אלי מגן: (Translated by Google) An excellent community center for everyone. (Original) מרכז קהילתי מצוין לכל אחד ואחת.

SwimBox: what do users think?

Saraubi Harrison: There aren’t enough words to describe how much I love Swim Box. I am an adult learn to swim swimmer and I’ve enjoyed each and every one of my sessions. I train with Dominic and he’s absolutely amazing. He makes all my sessions fun and I can see my growth after every session. I’ve also met a lot of the staff and they’re all super nice and super knowledgeable. Coming to swim sessions has truly become my favorite part of the week. No matter if you’re new to swimming like me, trying to improve your swim skills or you’re a competitive swimmer, this is the place for you.

Kim Le: I’ve always been a little uncomfortable in water and within four lessons, Dominic has helped me overcome most of my fears! In just a few short weeks, I was able to learn breathing, floating, and swimming techniques other swim coaches have not been able to do for me. I can’t wait to go deep dive this summer (ok maybe not yet, but I now believe anything is possible). Truly has built my confidence in the water and has been life changing!

Sam Watzman: Coach Megan really helped me out during our sessions. I came thinking I had a pretty efficient freestyle but was quite off. She helped me fix a lot of things I was doing wrong and gave me suggestions for drills during my weekly swims. Looking forward to testing them out in my next race.

Aileen Roder: I highly recommend Swimbox. I work regularly with Coach Dominic Latella. His knowledge and experience are invaluable. His sense of humor and kindness make lessons both fun and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about him. He and all the swim coaches at Swimbox tailor lessons to the swimmer’s skill level and goals. Britany Fisher and Lissa Latella have made scheduling lessons easy. Give Swimbox a try!

Francis Outdoor Pool: what do users think?

Sam Odle: We came for dog swim day at the end of summer and our pup had a blast.

beth peralta-reed: Great pool. Lap swimming available. Kid pool with a beach entrance. Maditory rest time for kids so that adults get some time in the pool without kids. The deep end opens around midday during the week. My only complaint is that the restrooms are kinda gross. One of the stalls in the women’s locker room has been locked for a couple weeks, two of the stalls don’t lock at all and none of the stalls have working toilet paper holders so the roll of toilet paper always ends up on the floor.

Jiya Sohal: It’s a beautiful poop and it’s not too crowded and if it is it’s mostly people sun bathing so the pool is very open and it’s separated in three parts so if your child is playing in water it won’t go to the deep end. I mostly loved how deep it goes and so you can challenge your self if you are trying to dive down to touch bottom and it goes down to 12feet and 5 inches. I was also surprised how clean it was even though there’s many tree near it and you definitely go there except on Tuesday there closed that day and this is my go to pool

B VanFleet: This pool needs better management. They force people into only 3 narrow lane for no apparent reason. There are two lifeguards who seem not want to do what a lifeguard is paid to do. If you open at noon you should have everything in place and opporational.

Bryan De Rosa: I just discovered this park as part of my kickball league. have not used the pool, but have had a number of practices and watched a few games. great location, close proximity to Georgetown, trader joes, and other cool places. this is perfect for families

Bender JCC of Greater Washington: what do users think?

Osvaldo Burgos García: This has been a wonderful discovering. It has both an indoor and an outdoor pool and both are open all year round. The gym is very well equipped and it has basketball and other courts. The staff is very kind and friendly and all the community is very welcoming. I think will keep visiting this place daily for a long time.

Ptan Atan: Update: 7/28, 7:30AM Pics of Empty Group Fitness areas, unable to use parts of big gym. Going from stretch room to weight room being unable to do cardio/weight workouts when they have empty dedicated areas for this, but keep doors locked. Other areas Ryan listed aren’t real space for these workouts. Gym has a lot of potential, it has a lot of offerings to include racquetball, group fitness, two pools, steam & sauna room. Although, this gym is lacking in many areas. As a busy working parent with limited time, the system they use has annoying technicalities. If you try to book a 6:00AM session at 6:10AM you can’t book on your phone due to technicality you have to book on the hour. You can’t book for 7:00AM because it would be too early to enter at that time, so the system wouldn’t let you in. You can request staff to put you in once you get there, but it’s unnecessary time. Also, the system has general errors & doesn’t populate correctly, so just getting in the door can take time. It’s not like other gyms where you swipe & just come in. Group Fitness Classes: 62% of classes offered during work week are during average work hours. Classes aren’t as available for those that work during the day. Customer Service: An issue. My mother & son was treated very rudely the first time they came in because they didn’t know how to use the system. I addressed the issue with Ryan, he said he would talk to staff member & see if he remembers. He also made an excuse about them getting hit hard at front. I’ve never seen front hit hard when I was there, as a working professional doesn’t seem to be a good excuse to be rude. The level of accountability for addressing unprofessional behavior appears to be lacking. All you have to do is remind staff about customer service & not see if someone remembers. Just address the issue without implying other party is not telling the truth based on ones memory. So, you can’t address issue or topic if one doesn’t recall? Fitness: If you workout in group fitness or stretch room, there isn’t a sign in for that, you can only sign in for Fitness center when that’s not really the area where you are working out. Issue due to availability of area, the fitness center area maybe full, but the Group Fitness & Stretch rooms are actually empty. They have plenty of space, but no real space dedicated to people who do cardio & weights at same time “H.I.I.T” type workouts. Certain areas get unnecessary congested when really they could just have the stretch room set up like group fitness room to alleviate congestion, having weights, stretch equip included when group fitness is in session. It’s inconvenient going from stretch room to weight lifting room to move weights back and forth before & after a workout. Logistics: You have to take time to ask for group fitness room to be opened. This is inconvenient. I asked gentleman at front if they could open room because there is no class, he says to ask a fitness instructor if I could use it as there is no class in session until hours later. Now, the fitness instructor is down stairs, but they all carry walkie talkies to communicate. So, instead of getting on the walkie, I have to go down stairs to ask & then go back up to get to the room opened. This is a big gym, it adds unnecessary time. Based on previous interaction with the front & fitness staff, I know all he had to do was get on walkie talkie to ask for the door to be opened. Policies: Not clear. Under 13 can’t be in certain parts of the gym. They said there is a sign, I had the fitness instructor show me the sign there was no sign. I got my membership based on myself, Tween & Teenager being able to use gym. There is a policy that both group fitness doors need to be open if you use the room. The staff doesn’t even open & unlock both doors all the time. Now, you as a member get accused of closing a door that was never opened in the first place. Then there is no sign saying both doors must be open, so you could get accused of breaking a rule you didn’t know existed. As another review stated, unorganized process.

David Whitnah: Outstanding community and wonderful staff! You will thoroughly enjoy your experience from the moment you enter and meet the staff at the front desk. We joined a little more than one year ago and this was because of our initial meeting and tour with Rena Silbert who is so customer focused! We have stayed as the folks who work here are exceptional. Recently we have seen such dedication in people such as Ryan Grant who actually runs fitness & membership, but picked up a shovel after 3 inches of snow fell in order to shovel off the pool deck for the safety and use of the members ....now that is impressive! A special shout out to the Director of Aquatics, Caroline Cardullo who is more than a blessing to all who use both the outdoor and indoor pools! She always is there for the members. The JCC is more than a place to work out as it is a wonderful welcoming community!

Bahruz B: Our daughter went to after school program at JCC for 3 years. Overall it is a great facility with so many different classes to keep your kid busy. That being said I feel their annual membership is very expensive.

one stop: Tried the fitness facility was unorganized and outdated. The manager Ryan was unable to be found when I had a complaint. With all the choices in the area I would go somewhere else. I am new to the area and hope my review helps anyone else looking for a fitness facility in the area.

Big Blue Swim School: what do users think?

Jihyun Yang Harris (Sunny): I’ve been sending my two kids to Big Blue for almost a year: One in the Bold Blue (6 and up class) and the other one in the Baby Blue (0-3YR class). I am happy with their programs in general. Unfortunately the instructors have been changed frequently but it was pretty much the same at the other swim school I sent my kids a year ago. Staff members, however, are very kind and friendly and especially Jackie has been extremely helpful! Whenever I have issues or requests she finds a way to resolve or meet my needs. Having her assistance at the Big Blue made my experience with them better.

beatriz mena: This review is for Claire and Sean! They were amazing with my son who has high-functioning autism. They were so patient with him and Claire gave me the peace I needed. Super clean as well.

Altan-Od Odbayar: Teachers changed every single lessons. Some teachers doesnt have any teaching technics. They looking ,acting and talking so angry. They are teaching for the kids not adults. So waisted my time. Last 3-4 teachers non profetional they cant teach any thing.

Ginia Hurh: We started at the Tom Dolan swim school about 2 months ago. My 4 year old twin boys look forward to this lesson every week. We feel safe and we feel glad to have found this activity to burn off some energy. Thank you to all the staff and especially our swim teacher Storm!

Kiersta Navarro: Today was our first lesson! My little one is almost 6 months, and she really enjoyed her first class! Benjamin was very friendly and made the class super enjoyable for all of the kids. The staff was even kind enough to take pictures with my phone for me while we had the class! I can’t wait to keep going 😊

Audrey Staples: Lessons constantly canceled due to an “incident” in the pool. Better to book first lesson of the day…Obviously not staff fault.

Banneker Pool: what do users think?

Kay: they let alot of people in without proper bathing suits but wouldn’t let my friends brother come in with regular clothes even tho he wasn’t swimming that day. OH, and i was drowning and the life guard didn’t save me. a stranger had to save me. please watch your friends if they can’t swim because the life guards are to busy flirting with the girls in the pool. but besides that, it’s a big pool, it’s free to go in. only rating it 1 star because why hire a life guard when he’s just sitting there talking to everyone and not being alert of his surroundings to make sure no one is drowning. smh

Kevin Rose: Don’t come to this pool!! I came here on Memorial Day, so of course I knew it would be packed and kinda crazy. My locker was broken into, the lock was stolen, and my wallet and my friends wallet were stolen. Our cards were taken to target and immediately blown up with charges. Loud, crowded, unsafe!

Rosy Beauty Secrets: Pretty cool but the bathrooms are dirty though, the curtains will make wanna 🤢, seeing people walking barefoot in the bathroom and swimming in the pool turned me off lol. Other than that it’s pretty nice there

Tiana Lynn: DC resident of 35 years and lived in the neighborhood all my life and this is my first time here. I love it. It wasn’t too safe here way back when, but it’s good now lol

Peyton Doyle: Awesome perk of living in the District. Public pool that is huge, clean and plenty of seating– but get there early or you’ll be laying on concrete. Attracting a wide array of District residents, this place remains a staple in th swampy summers.

Timothy Aguirre: Great pool, but short staffed. Had to stop swimming due to lack of lifeguards.

saahib aalim zafir: Banneker Pool is a great place to go during these hot summer days. The pool attendants are friendly and its not far from McDonalds if you have a desire to cool the pool munchies.

Washington Sports Clubs - Columbia Heights: what do users think?

Kuntal Sen, MD, FACMG: My poor review is due to following reasons: My trainer left abruptly without notice. I was charged for cancelling my session with him even though it was their fault. I have disputed the credit card charge. They are infamous for wrongly charging customers and fraudulent activity. They implemented covid vaccine card policy which was nice but didn’t inform customers. I and others was treated very unprofessionally by front desk during this day.

Conor O'Reilly: I had a personal training session with Phil and he did a great job! He taught me a lot about free weights and stretching. Now I feel more comfortable to use the more advanced equipment. They also have a pool, sauna, and basketball court. Love this place

Terry Chasteen: I joined on a special rate, maybe it was 2018. Due to my own fault, I never used the gym ... not once. I cannot blame that on anyone else, however I would have thought with a new client in a business like this, someone would have reached out; invited me in for a tour, found out why I was paying monthly but never using the facility. No one ever contacted me for the full year that I was billed. That is not the worst part, however, Even though it was NOT in the contract, they automatically renewed my membership without my approval and not only at my original rate but almost $30/mo above. This went on for a year since I never used that credit card and it was paid monthly automatically by my bank. Only bc of sething else on the card did I notice the fraudulant charges and they were too old for my bank to recover.

Benyam Ephrem: Scheduled an InBody scan a week ago (as a non-member), came in prepped for the scan (no breakfast) at 10am - front desk said they did not have an appointment asking if I received a confirmation email (I said I got no calls or emails), then made me scan a QR code on a banner to schedule for another day since apparently the person doing the scans would be in at 5pm. Frustrating experience. Will not be coming back to the gym.

Gregory Alan: Critical: QualityMediocre at best. See attached pictures below. The equipment is not well maintained and does not justify the cost of membership. Also the club hours are terrible on the weekends.

Thaiz Alicia: Do not come to this gym!!! They do not care for your safety!! They will cancel your membership for protecting yourself from weird men that will follow you around ! Stay safe and go to a gym that will help you out and help you enjoy your gym experience instead of canceling your membership!

Mahvash Edrissi: I started going to gym a month ago, first it was difficult to come out after so long time lock down. But after few days I got used to it now i want to go there everyday. Friendy staff, and clean place, and all equipment makes this place great. I do my exercise, take a shower and saunas, afterwards I feel great about myself. Thank you wsc

Bita Kh: The worst customer service I’ve ever seen. Nobody takes responsibility for the actions. They charge me with new fee membership that is more than the original one because of the mistake that made by themselves. I’ve spoke with customer service and sales department several times, everybody already aware of this problem but no action. When I follow up they send me to new person. This is absurd.

ParrotFish Swim School: what do users think?

Anonymous Review: Okay, so I don’t typically leave reviews because I don’t want it to negatively effect the person’s business, but I just feel like it’s the right thing to do. Keep in mind that other people may have had a better experience; I just wanted to leave a comment about mine! If you ALREADY KNOW how to swim and just want to improve your form or technique, then Dan is the man for you! He has a lot of knowledge and let’s you know what areas need to be corrected! However, if you are an adult and you DO NOT know how to swim, he may not be the right person. I went to 4 out of the 8 lessons and all he did was say all the things I was doing wrong. Of course I’m doing everything wrong, I just started learning how to swim 3 days ago. He also has a habit of telling you what to do instead of showing you; this is probably the most frustrating thing; especially if you are not comfortable with the water. In addition, if you decide to buy group swimming lessons, I recommend you request to be placed with people the same level as you. I was originally placed with someone who didn’t know how to swim and it was easier to pick up on things, then I was placed with someone who already knew how to swim but just needed to improve their form- THE WORST EXPERIENCE! The entire time he was complimenting the other person and saying they’re a natural and telling me to look at them. She was doing great, but the whole experience made me feel terrible. I knew the girl probably learned to swim as a kid, so she had an upper hand but when someone is constantly telling you that you suck while complementing someone half your age- it just rubs you the wrong way. Also, he does not teach safety! To put it in his words, if you’re a great swimmer then you do not need to learn the safety things such as floating. To me this doesn’t make sense- if I don’t know how to swim then you might want to teach safety first so I know what to do in certain situations. He’s also not the the most organized man, if you book for a 6pm and show up at 3p instead, then he probably won’t even notice lol. I didn’t mind too much because my schedule is pretty flexible- but if you are someone who has a strict schedule then you might want to check in with him before you drive to make sure he didn’t forget about you. Last but not least, if you are a single female then you might want to reconsider! I recommend you bring a man or say you’re married. Dan is a nice guy but he had a habit of talking about dating and asking personal questions. Small talk is cool sometimes, but I didn’t pay you and drive 30 minutes to discuss what I’m having for dinner and why I’m single. This is just my honest review! I hope this helps anyone who is considering taking swimming lessons here. Also, this is just my experience! If you want to check out Dan’s abilities then go for it- you may have a totally different experience. Best of luck, J

Twins Mercedes: Stay away.

Parkview Recreation Center: what do users think?

Michelle Lemon: Pool is fantastic for littles plus there’s a playground, basketball court and field!

maria johnson: Me and my grandchildren really enjoyed ourselves the field was beautiful and the people were so nice I love our city thank you DPR.

justrenia23: Big area for my daughter to ride her scooter, lots of seating and adult workout area, tennis court, basketball court and soccer field

MrandMrs Mateen: Perfect outdoor pool for small children, toddlers.

Saj Popat: Small field with track, basketball court, and kids playground next to the pool.

James Salt: Great little park with soccer field, basketball court, playground, indoor rec center with air hockey and restrooms. There is a small swimming pool open in the summer, but the staff is somewhat indifferent to customer service expectations.

Angel Myrick: There was bloody teeth sitting next to the poolside. Also bandaids in water and friend got an ear infection with tons of water in her ear after it.

Diana Delgado Vélez: It is very nice but some afternoons and during weekends are several teenagers smoking inside the park. They do not care about babies and children.

DC Department of Parks and Recreation: what do users think?

SIR Stock Is Rising: Had me on hold for 30 mins just for no one to pick up the phone. The HR department is a complete joke. The people who answer the phones have a huge attitude problem and make it seem like your bothering them when you call. And thats if you are lucky enough for anyone to answer the phone at all. Horrible experience and my questions still have not been answered.

Urban Capitol Photography: No one answers the phone and when they do the person you need to speak with happens to be at lunch and they don’t know when they’ll be back. How are these government employees? Very unprofessional to say the least.

Allison P.: No one ever answers the phone.. I’ve called twice and been waiting on hold for over 20 minutes each time.

MoneyCounter_28f: Very unprofessional I called to inquire about several positions this morning & been calling for a week to check the status of my applications & the customer service lady Vanessa I believe keeps saying the same thing they are reviewing applications. we are suppose to be helping our people & Dc is suppose to be uniting but they are not helping each other seek employment or going above & beyond to help or even do they job I’m so disappointed!

Andrea Williams: Have left several messages with DPR and no one has returned the call. I continue to call and get voicemail each time! Does anyone work there?

Olivia A. Chase: DPR takes on an intergenerational approach with my family and many families like mine. I am a grandmother raising a grandchild. They generate many programs that are suitable for this type of family. As an example, DPR has various Swim Teams in all 8 Wards of Washington, DC. DPR not only organizes Swim Meets each week; in addition, transportation to the Swim Meets is also provided making it possible for families to engage in the swimmers activities. This also allows families to participate as time keepers or to volunteer their time and energies in various other and sundry ways. Personally, I was ecstatic to be able to CHEER MY SWIMMER ON TO VICTORY!!

YMCA Fairfax County Reston: what do users think?

Francine Gallagher: Have been a member since it first opened. I particularly enjoy the water aerobics classes. Over the many years, I’ve had many instructors. One of my favorites is Terri. Love her rock and roll music. She makes the classes fun and is reliable. Right now she is teaching all of the classes except 1. We need more instructors and weekend classes.

mary balboni: I have had excellent experiences at this Y. The water aerobics for people with arthritis is excellent. Terri is the teacher who brings her own music and designs the best set of water set of exercises for people like me. She is warm and friendly. I recommend anyone who needs to build core muscles but have chronic pain to try the water aerobics classes with Terri at the Reston Y. And I must also gives a hats off to the great life guards!! They watch over us, and help me get my cane after class. They open doors when I am moving slowly and have the best attitudes. I leave the Y with a big smile due to being with such good people!!

Janet Kotra: Big fan of the water aerobics program. Safety and hygiene protocols during Covid were excellent. Terri is a super instructor. Jodi is great as well. Just wish they offered more classes now that enrollment has increased.

Melissa Leatherman: I am Incredibly upset with the Y. I terminated my membership and now I am being HARASSED by them to rejoin. They have call me all the time and keep emailing me. This HAS TO STOP! I do not know why they think this is ok? If you join just know you can move to the other end of the planet and they will keep calling you asking to join with their $0 special every month. Utterly disgusting.

Kathy Kelley: Terri Timanus has been wonderful in keeping up active thru water aerobics since the pool reopened. I’m grateful

Frank Adms: I like ymca a lot but it get boring fast I think you guys should add a slide so people can have more fun.

Goldfish Swim School - Fort Washington: what do users think?

Molly Cassidy: If I could give 10 stars, I would! We absolutely love Goldfish swim school! We have been bringing our 2 year old here for 3 months now and the staff is always friendly, the facilities are clean, and communication is always wonderful. We love Miss Vanessa our teacher. Thank you for making us feel like family from the second we walked in the door! Highly recommend!

S G (TooGoode): The instructor truly cares for my child. I like how she champions for the children with high fives, smiles, and other positive reinforcement. My child loves the water and even though less than 10 classes have been completed, my child practices when possible. The front desk staff is great. Also, the kids get a free prize every week. I look forward to seeing the progression of my child.

tiffany lerch: My daughter is 8 years old and has been with Goldfish for about 2 years now. (Including pandemic). Within a few weeks at Goldfish she learned the strokes and skills needed to keep her safe in water. She is still just working on her confidence and a few sills to graduate lessons. The small group sizes allow her to be in the water almost the entire practice. She is very comfortable with t instructors who make the lessons productive and fun!

Kelly Conaway: The teachers and staff at Goldfish are so warm and welcoming. They do a great job making all of the kids feel comfortable in the pool and confidence to keep working on their skills.

James Edinger: My daughter loves her instructor Em and is always excited to go. She’s been learning a lot and even practices in the bathtub. Always asks how many days until her next class!

Faith King: I love this swim school for Madison. Everything is centered on student safety and learning. Madison was terrified at first. During her 1st session, she cried so loud it broke my heart & I wanted to pull her out then and there. The team and her instructor remained calm, consistent and persistent while respecting her boudaries and words (you had to see it). Soothing her & challenging her without blame or shame from the second she entered the pool. She came back the very next session still timid but no tears. By the end of the 2nd session, she claimed she was a "schwimmer now" & motions for me to wait so she can get her last moments in!! She goes to each session, now, excited to wave at her instructor through the glass (interrupting his current session) & he readily waves back. Thank you so much!!

YMCA of Metropolitan Washington - Association Services Office: what do users think?

C Young: I love the YMCA of Greater DC. I took up swimming several months ago and joined. The facilities are nice and the people who work here are even nicer. I love to swim and see instructors teaching adults who never learned to swim as children learn to swim. I love that it feels like a community rather than a health club. I love that they send kids who would otherwise not be able to afford it to summer camp.

Tameeka Barker: Plans to leave the weight off a good agenda to make my self plain. Effort not by mistake every thing shared off make a body much better and this y going to keep me from jumping body to body.

Dr. Alexander-Martin Sardina: The YMCA of DC is located in direct neighborhood and walking distance of the White House which makes it a perfect place to stay for a night for any tourist. The staff is easy-going, friendly, and helpful. The rooms and other facilities are as expected. Thumbs up and thank you.

Suriya Jayanti: Submitted an application and never heard back.

Barbara Gomez: needs more machines to use

Propel Swim Academy: what do users think?

Jennifer D: Both of my older kids have come to Propel for swim lessons, to prep for high school teams and summer swim. The facility is beautiful and clean, and the instructors are fantastic. Nick, in particular, is great. Very patient, professional, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Jasmin T: WE LOVE PROPEL! We have been with the Propel family for close to a year. This swim school is absolutely top notch. When you enter the school, the front desk provides a warm greeting each time. The coaches engage the swimmers and make learning a fun experience. As a former competitive swimmer, I can see and appreciate the quality of coaches they bring on, as they all provide expert technical training. This beautiful culture at Propel is created by the owner Linda. Linda evaluates every new swimmer and her passion for teaching kids how to swim radiates. We love our experience and look forward to continuing to see our own child become a stronger and more confident swimmer. Thanks Propel!

Adrienne Glasheen: There are so many things to love about Propel, from the welcoming smiles at the front desk to the energetic and knowledgable teachers for every level of swimmer. My 4 and 7 year old daughters have grown tremendously in both skill and confidence level from just one year of lessons. They were both able to participate in summer swim team, thanks to their lessons at Propel. As a triathlete, I took lessons from Nick and gained a further awareness of stroke technique and efficiency- he has a way of explaining things in simple form that makes it easier to visualize and correct. My mom also really benefitted from their adult classes, finding a love for swimming at 65 years old. I highly recommend Propel to anyone looking to learn to swim or improve upon their swim abilities.

Dan Urban: The kids have been enrolled here for about 6 months, and we really love it! The facility is excellent. The pools are heated, and there is a nice observation area where parents can watch their kids swim. There are a few different pools so that multiple classes can run at the same time and not get mixed up. The staff are super friendly and accommodating as well. They are very helpful with arranging schedules. I have not interacted with the teachers, but the kids seem to love them. I have seen the difference it makes with my youngest. They are also super professional, and the whole thing is set up to keep the kids motivated. Job well done; I highly recommend Propel!

Rob - Alison Shields: Our family loves Propel Swim Academy! Our two boys have been in both the Seahorse and Pufferfish classes and have had the best experience - it is their favorite activity! The facility is extremely clean, the staff is friendly and welcoming and we feel safe knowing the safety and well-being of our children is their priority. Our little swimmers have made great progress since attending Propel, which in turn has been a big boost to their confidence to be independent in and around the water! We highly recommend Propel!

LP Y: Both my son and I are learning how to swim at Propel. The facility and the instructors are great! Not only do the instructors make it fun for each class, they also focus on technique as well. The family swim twice a month is a huge bonus. I highly recommend taking swim classes at Propel!

Alison Demmie: We absolutely love Propel! The staff is wonderful and our girls have improved on their skills tremendously since beginning swim lessons here. Not to mention the facility is very clean, and filled with staff who are friendly and get to know each child and family individually. The online scheduling makes it so easy when needing to reschedule or book a makeup class. We were grateful to find such an amazing school after trying others in the area—there is no comparison, Propel is the best!

Megha Kamani: Propel is a family owned swim school in the South riding neighborhood. Our daughter started at the center in March 2018 and still continues to learn swimming at the same. All the instructors and staff at the school are extremely professional and friendly. They maintain a clean and hygiene indoor environment which makes is more alluring for parents to enroll their kids. Their checklist style of swimming skills for each group is pretty simple yet informative to understand a child’s progress and challenges. Our daughter loves her swim class and looks forward to it every week. Infact- I have enrolled myself for an adult class as well. Love this place! We have recommended it so many of her school friends and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn swimming.
