Hankster64: I would like to preface with a short background on how we came to do business with Rick Jones Pianos. My wife and I love to listen to piano music and she has wanted a player style piano for many years. We always assumed that they would be too expensive. Forward to May 2021 when she found Rick Jones Pianos. They had a very nice Yamaha Disklavier upright that was within our budget. We made contact with Paul and setup an appointment. Sofie placed a hold on the piano for us. Rick personally met us and gave us an in-depth demonstration. We happened to catch the Memorial Day sale and that made it even better. Sofie handled the transaction and we where happy Yamaha piano owners! The delivery was smooth and professional. We have been listening to our piano almost daily. Matt Chingos: I had an excellent experience buying a grand piano from Rick Jones Pianos. I researched a number of used piano stores in the DC metro area and Rick Jones had by far the best reputation. I made an appointment and ended up staying for 3 hours playing nearly all of the grand pianos because no one had an appointment after me. The staff were friendly and available to answer questions but never put any pressure on me to make a purchase. I came back a week later with my wife and again spent 2-3 hours making sure we had found the right piano for us. In between visits, I called another piano store in the area that had a similar piano for sale just to compare price (Rick Jones posts all his prices on his website; I had to call the other store for this information), and Rick's price was more than 10% lower. Once we finalized our decision, I called and placed the order over the phone (the store had kindly placed the piano on hold for us for 24 hours to make sure no one else bought it while we were deciding). The piano was delivered (included in price) and set up in our living room within 10 days of the purchase. The delivery crew was professional and did a flawless job. About a week or two after delivery, one of the dampers was sticking slightly (a normal result of the piano adjusting to its new environment). I called Rick Jones on a Saturday at 10am and a technician was at my home an hour later. Problem solved and amazing service! Highly recommend Rick Jones Pianos! Their 10-year warranty and lifetime upgrade policies both gave us a lot of confidence that our significant investment in a grand piano would be protected.

Ten years later, when we moved from VA, we needed to find a new home for our piano. Fortunately, we decided to put it on consignment with Rick Jones. Even during a global pandemic, they picked it up immediately, and promised they would keep us posted. True to their word, several months later we received notice that the piano sold, and they were sending a generous check. Nick and his crew took the extra step of making sure the piano looked as great as it sounded...which led to an entire refinishing...at no extra charge. The delivery went well and was efficient, careful, and professional. Can't say enough good stuff about these guys!

Tim Harrison: I purchased the piano early November, took numerous phone calls to Nick and finally they delivered the piano a month later. I was promised an adjustable bench with the purchase cause I have 2 kids and they never delivered it. Nick kept telling me that it will be shipped to me and it never arrived! He never return any of my phone calls and I am tired of calling him. Tuning was supposed to be included with the purchased which they suppose to do it within a month of delivery. I had called Nick countless times and he said a guy name Ian will call me to setup the tuning which of course never happened! I understand Nick is an older man but I've been more then enough patient with him and I call it quit at this point. I will call my credit card company to dispute the charge for the bench and tuning. Stay away from this place!

Frances A McDonald: I have always wanted to own a Baldwin baby grand piano and when I retired I decided to make this one of my goals. Love makes the world go 'round but I believe that music soothes and uplifts the soul. Decades ago I earned an undergraduate music degree and during college I was allowed to practice on the Steinways and Baldwins, which were reserved for guest artists, professors, and music students, and gradually developed an appreciation for Baldwin pianos. So last year, I searched online and saw the add for Piano Man Superstore in College Park, MD. It took several weeks to decide whether or not to go to check out the store because I live in the Shenandoah area in VA and it would require at least a two-hour drive on the beltway to MD. UGH!!! I'm glad I did because the store has the best selection of uprights and grands of different sizes from various manufacturers I've ever seen: Steinway, Mason/Hamlin, Wurlitzer, Kohler/Campbell, Kimball, Yamaha, etc. and of course Baldwin. I initially tested several (which were within my budget) but kept going back to an Ebony Satin 1994 Classic Baldwin Petite Baby Grand, 4'9", made in the USA (which exceeded my budget). Guess what!!! It took a couple of months for the Baldwin to be delivered because the piano had to go through a special reconditioning/refinishing process before delivery and there has been a delivery driver shortage. I chose an ebony satin finish for the Baldwin and got to pick a padded piano bench. It took another month to schedule a professional piano tuner to come to my home to tune the Baldwin, also due to a piano tuner shortage. Thank you, Nick Margaritas, for the excellent quality and service you provided. Also, thank you for your patience in responding to my anxious, pesky telephone calls about the piano's delivery and obtaining a piano tuner. The Baldwin looks fabulous and sounds fantastic!!! The pianist, however, needs a lot more practice but is having a lot of fun. LOL!!!

Lotus Lee Studios: This guy is an obvious racist/misogynist who is only interested in scheduling an appointment to see his showroom if you are white, smell of money, and promise to buy from him sight unseen without even playing it first. Apparently he does not get that even for a professional musician a grand piano is a huge investment and needs to be played first. I suppose to him it is just rich people's furniture. Even new cars get test driven first at any dealership! He's not interested in selling pianos to capable musicians. He's only interested in selling them to no-talent hacks, as long as they promise to buy. The guy's a jerk and deserves to go out of business. Salespeople who judge you on sight without knowing anything about you and failing to treat you initially with respect should not be rewarded with anyone's business, much less any person of color. I hope he moves his showroom directly into retirement.

Carlton Jones: Chuck Levins Washington Music Center, has been the most anticipated retail store visit since I was 13 years old. Every local musician I know in DC has spent time and money at Chuck’s. I recently made a purchase and it went as all my transactions made there since approx 1970. This time it was online but a very personal affair, Adam Levin was helpful and more accommodating that an old guy could ask for. It was still like xmas awaiting my package that came overnight and with a wonderful gift. I can honestly say it was the most emotional purchase I’ve made in decades, not the most expensive, not a life changing acquisition just a memory evoking moment that included family members and friends passed on that I think of frequently whom I spent many hours playing music with and having the best times of my life. Me, my family, friends and Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center…. Thanks again Adam, if this is my last purchase please know they have all been the best!

Crystallize And Realize: This place goes above and beyond I'm all categories. Total knowledge, stock, and personal care. You will find your salesman, and he will be yours for decades. Paul in drums is incredible. Also Edwin in Keys, and Mitch up front. Top notch. I feel good arriving, better leaving. Best store in the world. I suggest cutting your credit cards before entering---can be dangerous.

Rachel Ellis: Bought my fiancé a guitar here a year ago. Sales person was friendly and helpful. Good covid protocol for the time. Sales people weren’t pushy and were well informed on guitars. Bought the Taylor GS Mini and it’s been a great guitar. Would definitely check them out if you’re in the market for an instrument. Only downside was slightly outdated equipment/billing systems, but nothing a little patience doesn’t fix.

I had a small problem with a piece of gear I was really excited to get, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate me. General manager Adam Levin reach out to me and oversaw my exchange. That kind of personal touch made it clear that they care about their customers.

Melissa Ratisher: I had tried many different retailers looking for an XDJ RX3, but nobody had them in stock, and people were selling them on EBay for $1k over the retail price. I saw one at Chuck Levin's that was 'open box' so called the store about it, then spoke to Randy who told me they had a brand-new one, unopened, in the store, at the standard retail price. I ordered it immediately (free shipping!), got it in 2 days, still sealed in the box, perfect condition, and it's fantastic! Highly recommend ordering gear from Chuck Levin's. Thank you Randy!

Bryce Wagner: I worked personally with Pete Fleming to order my new bass amp. I saw a post on Reverb for an amp I had been looking for and Pete was very helpful. I’d also like to mention that he made me feel safe making such an expensive purchase over the phone for it to be shipped to my home town. Pete even went back to the warehouse to grab the amp because we both couldn’t believe they actually had one in stock. As soon as I paid, it was removed from reverb and he’s sent me receipts very swiftly to assure it was mine! I would highly recommend this store. If I had one complaint, it’s that it isn’t in my hometown. Haha

dylanvs: I ordered a yamaha dtx8k mesh electric kit online. This kit was impossible to find anywhere else backordered on every other music site i went to so i was already happy i found it here. They got it to me quick using a freight company called distribution by air, i think it took just about a week which is good considering it was an entire pallet of boxes. The customer service from both the freight company and chuck levins was great, both companies reached out concerning my delivery making sure i could be there to sign and to let them know id got my shipment. Also the shop pay option for 4 installments is a huge plus! Couldnt ask for more

Linda Cancellieri: As Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria, I was fortunate to find our new Kawai GL50 grand at Schaeffer's. The entire experience was easily 5 star. We had a very pleasant and efficient sales meeting with Tim, the fourth generation owner, who was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Schaeffer's very professional team delivered the piano, accompanied by the owner. I was impressed by this company throughout the transaction and highly recommend them.

Nick Ballam: We took advantage of the annual MCPS Piano Sale and bought our first upright piano. The staff is very helpful and honest. Delivery was a difficult job as we live in a townhouse with a flight of cement stairs in front but they executed it without mishap. The piano is great and we got a great price on it. It also came with a fifteen year warranty for parts and labor as long as we get it tuned regularly. Would recommend.

My wife and I purchased one last month and could not be happier with our mechanically restored Golden Era Steinway that contains brand new Steinway action parts. We went in looking for an upright and got a grand instead and did it without ever being pressured by them. Their values align more with educating and explaining their craftsmanship as opposed to finances. I know some all-time performers, but Tim is the most skilled and talented person I have ever met for the piano. His craftsmanship is brilliant, and it’s a trade his family members have passed down through generations for well over a century. We felt so comfortable getting a Steinway from Schaeffer’s, more so than anywhere else. Their long-term warranties and trade-in policies made it a no-brainer for us. They showed us that Steinways are affordable, after all. Use Schaeffer’s, everyone. You don’t need to spend over $100k for a Steinway Grand. Those are just markups. Any Steinway Tim and Company have in their possession will sound even better after they finish applying their craft. Trust me on this. Best Steinway experience possible. 5 Stars.

Ji Eun Lee: It was a pleasant experience to buy our first piano at Schaeffer's. It took quite a time for us to decide the right piano, but Tim was always friendly and gave quick responses, making our journey easier and comfortable. Other staff we talked with, including Tim's uncle, were also very kind and caring. Now we're enjoying our new piano. If you'd like to buy a piano, just go to Schaeffer's!

Peter Robbins: My wife has dreamed of owning her own good quality piano for years. Finally in a position to make it happen, we shopped around online everywhere near DC, and Schaeffers had the right selection of rebuilt uprights that met my wife's priorities. I appreciated that we could schedule an appointment and have a safer shopping experience. We would have been thoroughly pleased with many of the pianos that were available, but found an early 1900s refurbished model that, despite being a century old, should be with us for the rest of our lives. The in-house rebuilt pianos were what my wife was particularly interested in and why we shopped here, but their selection of new pianos was impressive with a great variety of price points, brands, and models. They were very helpful when we were buying the piano originally, they understood our price point and helped us find a good piano within it. We've used them for tuning every year since and their technicians have been prompt, efficient, and friendly. We recently had a problem with the bench that came with our piano and they were extremely helpful with that as well.

Jason Sack: They are sincere, passionate about pianos, and realize the shortsightedness of putting a quick buck above long-term customer satisfaction. In 2017 I purchased a Boston studio model, and after a day in the house, I realized that the nicer piano I had considered (a "Charles Walter Upright") was tugging at my heartstrings. I was willing to pay a bit more for an heirloom-grade instrument. I called Rick Schaeffer, explained things, and there was zero grief or push-back. They dropped by, swapped them out, I paid the difference, and everyone left happier for it. In 2021 one of the hammers suffered a broken spring. I loosened a screw to remove it and - knowing the extent of my technical skill and the risks of DIY repair - stopped by with the broken part. Tim invited me into the workshop while Stan made the repair. Being a fellow piano nerd, we talked shop, and they could not have been nicer. Again, there was zero grief or price-gouging for my little DIY adventure. This is a fantastic family business, and I can not recommend them enough.

Hanna Yu: We had such a wonder experience with Tim at Schaeffers Piano! It was quick and easy and ended up getting a much better piano than what we went in for. Great selection and great service. The trade-up program is great and awesome showroom with the attached shop that makes it a one stop shop. Our piano got delivered right away and on time.
