Jaycyll: It was my first time trying out this location today, and drove about 45 minutes and waited 3 hours to get turned down of everything I had. Also, it was strange that they didn’t accept any items in plastic bags, and preferred them in boxes or shopping bags, so…..I couldn’t drop anything off until I put them in a box or recyclable bag——-note that other locations don’t have this issue. Also, I was surprised they didn’t take any of my items as a few had tags and others were slightly used. They were summer items and lots of great quality shoes. The comment I received was they were out of style? which is not true because they were NOT out of style. After seeing the other comments about this location now I understand. Looks like I won’t ever be coming here again.
Lemlem Kidane: Just so you know if you are of other races your stuff won’t even make it to the inspection process. I advice you to not even bother by going to this place. I had brand new stuff with tags on it and guess what they did not even open the bag to see the products . They simply judged me from when I walked I. And returned everything without at least looking at my clothes . If you are a person of color do not waist time on energy. This place is not for us
anna godsey: TERRIBLE!!!! Do not attempt to sell items to this terribly operated location. I traveled 45 minutes to be turned away as they “had an event” and were not properly staffed to accept sales. A week later I called in advance to confirm they were staffed, then drove 45 mins again to be turned away because I brought my items in a plastic bag. Wouldn’t think to tell me about this policy on the phone call before I wasted my time again. They suggested I purchase a container and come back. Laughable. HORRIBLE SERVICE.
Tyisha Daye: The owner replied saying most of my stuff wasn’t teen age appropriate the clothes were my teen age daughters stuff wasn’t name brand yes it was brands like America. Eagle , forever 21 , etc. and still had tags on them you probably didn’t even open the bags steer clear of this Plato closet !
Hypocy: Really overpriced, You can get the same clothes brand new for the same price or even cheaper at a mall. All they want is your money.
L B: 1/5 I understand there was a surge of incoming items recently and a lot of clothes to sort so I didn’t let that affect my experience. That’s nothing the employees could control. They mentioned before we pass the clothes off that they are being super selective, but a majority of the clothes in the store are outdated, well worn, and overall not on trend. It’s a little discouraging to come in to a licensed business that’s practically operated by teenagers and young adults that look less than thrilled to be there and are clearly just trying to make their summer money. Age or reason for working is never an issue anywhere, but if you are striving for customer loyalty it’s nice to have a warm, welcoming, and helpful experience. I brought my clothes in (less than a year old with tags still attached) and got most of them back. I asked if my left over clothes could be donated since I don’t need them filling up my closet/no donation centers close by and the girl said “no, we don’t have time to take your donations” and when my bag ripped, I asked if she wouldn’t mind throwing it away for me. She pointed to the trash can outside in the rain and said “you can throw it away out there.” Absolutely intolerable and unprofessional. Only pros of my experiences so far is the text/email automated check in process, and open fitting rooms. Updated: 6/11 11:56am: I’d say thanks for your comment but your response made no attempt to improve the experience, thus unnecessary. I commend you for taking the time out of your busy day to do so and defend your team/business but excuses can only go so far. Post- COVID times are difficult to navigate, i hope you get the help and support this location so desperately needs.
Psu Liu: I dont remember who recommended this place to me to sell my clothes. They are for teens not adults. They are very selective and they want the trendy styles. I dont know what is trendy for teens but definitely not sth your wear to the office. If you have some classic styles like black coat or high heels, thredup maybe a better choice and they recycle the clothes for you if they dont buy it. This plce makes you wait for two hours and then pick up the rest again. Dont waste your time if you live more than 10 mins away. They wont accept your clothes and you also waste their time. The young employees are very cute btw.

Abigail Whitridge: I came in with 3 containers of clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch, Aerie, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, and American Eagle, and they only accepted 3 things. I would understand if they wanted only brand new items and were super selective, but their entire store is filled with cheap Shein clothes that are falling apart. Not to mention, one of the items they accepted from me was a brand new pair of pants with the tag still on it, and they wanted it for 4% of the price listed on the tag. It was also a little sketchy that they wanted me to immediately agree to the exchange without me seeing what items they had selected first. Thankfully, I asked to see which items they wanted, so I was able to take back the pants they tried to scam me for.
Vicious Love: Terrible place! Good luck getting anything accepted. Brought in 2 bags of nearly brand new clothing & some with still tags on them & they didn’t take a single thing because they’re “picky” with their selection. Yet their store looks like a knockoff/wannabe of Rainbow. Don’t waste your time here.
Chelsea Bartholomew: I brought in a basket of nearly 30 items - none of them were accepted, and took 2 hours to sort through. Brands included: Brand new items from Loft, tags still on, Pacsun, American Eagle, Tobi, H&M. Do not recommend this store - you will have better luck taking to the Goodwill across the street.
Taylor Huffman: Terrible location!! I came in with a bag full of free people clothes sizes s-L, most of which had tags still on it or had never been worn. Other clothes included Zara, Ralph Lauren, Vinyard Vines, North Face all almost new/ with tags! I brought in 40+ clothing items. The 2 girls working went through my clothes in under 4 minutes. They said I didn’t have brands they liked........ I’m not one to care about what people wear but these girls clearly didn’t have the style or the knowledge of clothes to know what good clothes look like. Hire people who have some kind of knowledge that nice clothes aren’t from walmart/ hot topic... terrible service on top of it all. I don’t recommend coming here- the clothes in store reflect the people working! Best part I drove to the Dulles location to donate the same clothes and got all but one item bought! Much classier people with an actual sense of style worth the drive if you want decent clothes!
Youjin Lee: Met the sweetest associate. I had a question and called in, and the staff were so understanding!!
Kiana Wyatt: Very rude workers , the website claims that everything could be accepted but the staff only pick and choose what they want to wear on themselves and what will look cute for them. You could bring in a $100 dollar shoes get 7 bucks for it but then you will see that its sold for $50.

Anna Cook: I called the store (Monday 12/29/21) and asked if they were accepting clothes today to sell and they said yes they were until 6, so naturally I thought this meant they were accepting clothes. I lugged a box in there around 4:15 and neither of the girls working even bothered to look at me and when I told them I was there to sell, they mumbled “nah we’re not accepting anymore today” in a very sassy way and I told them I had literally just called and gotten a different answer. They continued to refuse to acknowledge that I was standing there at all much less the fact that it was with my hands full. Another employee came over and took my load since I had called earlier, which I really sincerely appreciate! I understand being overloaded, understaffed, and stressed, but being disgustingly rude to your customers is never excusable. Especially considering the fact that I straight up told them I had just called and the response being “yeah still no”, this was absolutely inexcusable behavior. The issue was not even to do with them being unwilling to accept the clothes, but with the way they spoke to me and looked at me/refused to look at me. I fully understand having a bad day, but that was not bad day exhaustion, that was straight up blatant disrespect and attitude that no one should ever receive from customer service. I try to never be short with anyone and it takes a lot to make me mad, but treat me like that and I’m done. 10/10 do not recommended selling to this place. And personally, I would be extremely embarrassed to have employees with that attitude in my store. I also have never written a review in my life before this because nothing has ever made me this upset. I know it won’t make a difference to them but I have been a customer of Plato’s for years and will never step foot in that location again
maryalice ingles: I’ve sold and visited several times and it appears that the service provided is superb and people continue to take their items on a daily. Keep it up ladies … the signage is everywhere….. Front door especially Not your issue if people are not reading the necessary to adapt to newer guidelines in store. Even posted clearly on your website as to which type of container to bag your items. Most organized Plato’s in our area as well as East Coast!!!! Have a great Christmas you all and thank you all for leading your store to success
Selah Boettcher: Had an extremely odd experience trying to sell to Plato’s closet today and it was quite unpleasant. Wasn’t even able to show them the clothes I was going to sell them it was so bad. My husband & I had cleaned out our closets and had lots of new nice clothing we wanted to donate. It was so much we decided to sell at Plato’s since it was all pretty much unworn nice items. I walked in and a older lady with orange wavy hair looks at me and screamed “UH OH, UH OH, UH OH!!!” literally 3 times. I was so confused why she was starting at me screaming and she proceeds to freak out all because I put all my clothes I was going to donate in a big plastic bag. She rudely tells me I need to leave and get a reusable bag in order to sell. I completely understand the rules and get they needed to inform me about their policy. I haven’t sold their in years so of course I’m unsure of the rules anymore. However the way it was handled with her freaking out was extremely unnecessary and to be honest really embarrassing. It’s unfortunate the reviews this place has but I see why. Save yourself a trip and don’t sell items here.
Erika Markussen: Went to donate clothes the lady working was super rude and not nice to my mom or me. She had no costumer service at all my sister had the same experience but I wanted to give it a try because I wanted to get some money instead of donating. Will never go here again. Learn how to talk to people correctly. Be nice!
Katie Hickey: TL/DR: Don’t waste your time. I’ve been to several Plato’s Closet locations in multiple states both for selling clothes and looking for clothes to purchase. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. I read the reviews prior to going, but I didn’t heed the warnings that others had posted. First, I arrive with my clothes to sale and I stand at the counter for a while as multiple workers glance in my direction and don’t say anything for a minute or two. Finally, someone helps me and I pull out my ID. At the moment I am having to use my passport as an ID because the DMV is delayed in sending my new license. I have had no issues using my passport as identification anywhere else in the last few months. After all, it is an official form of ID issued by the government. The sales associate sees it and says “no, we need an actual ID” as if somehow my government issued United States passport is not an actual ID? I think if my passport can allow me to get into a bar and board an international flight it should allow me to sell clothes at Plato’s Closet. I have friends who don’t drive and use their passports as their primary form of identification. Their website states that you need an ID, but does not state it must be a drivers license. Eventually they determined they could use my expired temporary paper license from the DMV, but not a passport. Absolutely absurd that my expired paper license somehow holds more weight than my passport. After the ID issue they told me it would take FOUR HOURS to go through my clothes. I’ve sold with Plato’s Closet many times and never have I had it take more than an hour. But I get it, understaffing, etc. so I went on to kill time. I started by browsing around the store but that didn’t last long because the store was a cluttered and disorganized mess. Luckily, there were several stores in the area that I like so I quickly left the store and moved on. Three (luckily not four) hours later I get a typo filled text saying they’ve completed my buy, so I go back to the store and find they’ve decided to buy two items out of probably 50 items total for a whopping $8.88. Another woman was coming in to pick her items up and found out they bought nothing of hers. Overall, massive waste of time and a gross location. I won’t be back.
Sarah Johnson: Unacceptable staff behavior. I am at a loss for words. Disgustingly rude. I had tried to sell clothes and didn’t get any offer for it, which is fine I understand if they didn’t wanna buy the clothes, that’s not the problem. The problem is once I got home I noticed multiple pieces of clothing were missing from the bag. Stealing isn’t acceptable and I wouldn’t recommend anyone waste their time at this unprofessional place. I wish I could leave 0 stars 👎
sharmeen kashmiree: i usually don’t go out of my way to write a bad review but this place has just about left a bad enough taste in my mouth. I came to this location awhile ago during the holidays- and as i walked in i beeped at the door which i’m assuming was because a retail worker forgot to desensitize the items I bought at tj maxx right next door (which i understand because i also work in retail) but as i walk further into the store and start shopping around, this woman (who i’m assuming is store manager) starts yelling at me across the store asking if i’m the one who beeped and if so i need to bring my bag up to her and leave it with her while i shop…which she spoke to me as if i was a CHILD. When do you ever walk into any kind of store where you have to give up your personal belongings for them to hold onto? not only did it not make sense to me but it was extremely EMBARRASSING considering the store was full of women at the time who all looked just as confused at the situation as me. One woman and her daughter also went out to their way to tell me she’s NOT allowed to do that. Overall weird situation and i just asked for my bag back and left. Didn’t think I would want to come back but decided to give this place another try recently and as i did a middle aged woman came in and beeped at the door- and nobody said a word…they even welcomed her in and told her not to worry about the beeping..so she peacefully shopped around, took her time and left. Not sure if this place is racially biased or just simply picks and chooses who they want to come after based on how they feel that day…just don’t waste your time
jaiden carroll: This store is awful, the owner of the store is an absolute asshat and the store is always in shambles. The associates gave me very menacing looks and seemed so judgy. The only person that was nice was one person with curly brown hair and glasses, I’ll go back to them. All of the clothing is outdated and there’s barley any space to shop. I understand during these times we’re all understaffed but there’s no excuse for rude people, especially when you’re the owner of the store.

Andre White: I once sold some old shoes here years and years ago and honestly I was happy with the experience. Im only here because I was hoping we’d maybe have a website open with in stock clothing but I’m kinda sad to see not yet and more sad to see the recent reviews. Most likely these people who are going on rants are only mad because… their shaggy dingy clothes/shoes to the Yeezy shoe seller which by the way i wouldn’t even pay 100 for which supposedly sold for 235 , 35 above retail valued at 220 for a brand NEW pair on stock x and all the other scared people to post their clothing on google for everyone to see what these working experts are looking at .. wasn’t taken in . If you want to sell something that bad when you know it’s not “GENTLY USED” (1 time) and be mad at the price it’s given? SELL IT YOURSELF, you’re going to a used clothing store meant for buying, not selling . Bring in clothing worth flipping and get adapted 60% of the populations clothing style . No more antiques . It’s clear no one has traded in games at GameStop here EVER ! Go to Facebook marketplace to sell your bad garments . Or take a look at what some high end retail spots sell like Stock X or Farfetch or Ssense especially Ssense cause everyone here needs some .
Charles Yates III: Good buys on second hand clothing. I always find good buys here. They are second hand so make sure to check everything for holes and wear spots. I have seen some damaged items on the racks but they are few and far between.
Melvin Thomas: Went to this location to sell a gently used pair of Yeezy 500’s, they said that the wait would be an hour and they would call when ready to pick up. After 2 hours of waiting (with no phone call) I finally went back to the store to find out they would not take them because of usage and they were done hours ago 🙄. Those same shoes were then sold for $250 on eBay within the next day. It’s VERY clear that these employees do not know what they are doing. Out of the three locations in the area this one is the worst I’ve been to.
Norma Bernardez: So not worth it. I would spare you guys the details. Just know most of the comments are true. They tried to give me $6 for a BEBE brand new dress. Lol !!!!!!! Make sure to go over what they keeping. She tried to hide the dress at the bottom of the bin!!! Sneaky. I took my dress right back. I
L: Had a horrible experience last time I was there. No one greeted me at all or spoke to me. I noticed a lot of clothes were dirty , all the racks were packed so tight, I couldn’t even see or get to half of the clothes. It got even worse when I went to check out. I was standing there at least 5 minutes because the 2 girls behind the counter were in the middle of a conversation... socializing about people they knew, instead of noticing me, the customer When they finally did notice me, the whole time I was checking out (3 minutes tops), the girl was talking to everyone else & couldn’t focus on ringing my two items up & getting me out of there . Bad customer service. Couldn’t even take a few minutes out of there day to be respectful and pleasant while I payed.
Matthew Burger: This store did not even look at my items for consideration as they had them for over 24 hours and most items were still folded in the basket. I was told (as the clerk chuckled) “unfortunately we could only accept one item for $4.90 because the clothes are too formal”. All clothing are shirts and sweaters from Banana Republic and JCrew, so I guess I should take them somewhere else with better fashion sense. I will never return to Plato’s Closet and I don’t recommend this place to anyone.
Bird Chana: The only good thing is their semi diverse selection of clothing because this place only takes branded clothes. However, this was my first time dropping off clothes and the cashier who explained the process to me seemed like she didn’t know what she was talking about or even doing. She explained to me that I’d get 30% of the retail price- which was fine. After dropping off my clothes, she told me it would take 30 minutes so I figured I’d walk around the store to waste time and when they were done BEFORE 30 minutes. They didn’t even care to notify me when they saw me constantly walking around in the store so I had to ask one of them. All of the young girls working were disengaged and rude honestly. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Provide better customer service for your employees! I will not be going back and would not recommend to anyone who is planning to drop off clothes.

Emma: Not so great. I’ve been to other Plato’s closets before which are nicer—both in stock/supply as well as staff. I get it—young adults/kids running the store but courteous attitudes should still be maintained to customers.
Tracy Dabbs: Staff is very rude. They open at noon and we were standing out the door and was told by the employee we still have 2 minutes. Ok and we were just standing outside waiting for them to open. The merchandise was all over the place and looked used and dirty. We had 3 bags of name brand clothes and was told we’re not taking any of this. I guess bc I didn’t have SHEIN or fashion nova it wasn’t good enough. Will never go back worst experience. Maybe you should hire a new staff instead of rude attitude people.
Damia Taylor: The whole store has a terrible old fashion sense. I tried to sell some newer looking clothes and the manager herself did not take them. I now know why…her outfit said it all.
ally brownlee: There were mice roaming around the store and when I confronted the manager, she denied it and pretended to not understand what I was saying. Absolutely disgusting store and people.
Evett Tamayo: Drove 45 minutes to come sell my clothing and shoes and was told they weren’t taking clothes past 4pm when on there website it says they take clothes till 6:30pm. Employee was rude and had no skill in customer service.
Shanell H: It’s okay. I found a few good things. I can see why a lot of people gave bad reviews on the staff. They are kids tho so I kind of expected that. Lots of attitude from the moment you walk in the door. I stay pleasant and they try to stay pleasant so I don’t really have an issue with it. The selection of clothes is all over the place which makes me wonder why they didn’t accept a lot of my clothes. It’s basically SHEIN/fashion nova type of quality. If that’s what you’re looking for that’s fine. But you have to search for good stuff. Like I said it’s okay.
fatima condon: Place has totally switch from back in the day. The clothes are all faded and badly styled. Jewlery and sunglasses are chip n broken. Some purses were in fair condition. It seems sweat clothes (hoodies, workout clothes, t-shirts, etc) are the theme lol (thrift store vibes personally). I couldnt believe the switch in fashion. If i was the franchise owner of this store i get somebody else to run this store correctly that can get this store back up to the community liking. Its a true dissappointment around here. I highly recommend uptown cheapskate in college park, they have way more trendy items and appeal better in our community.
