Capitol Hill Outfitters: what do users think?

Stephen Keil: I was so happy to find Capitol Hill Outfitters. I needed an additional set of pack, water bladder, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad for an overnight backpacking trip with my two brothers, and Capitol Hill Outfitters came in clutch. Tim was able to accommodate me for an earlier pickup on Thursday morning, which I appreciated greatly since I was on work travel, and drop off was seamless. Parking was easy to find right out front for both pickup and drop off. Total cost was $95, which thought was fair for solid and clean rentals. Gear was in good shape and my brother had an absolute blast exploring WV. Thanks Cap Hill Outfitters!

Gabrielle Alper: After a recent move down to the DMV, I was looking for a spot to rent gear and get some advice on where to go winter hiking. Tim from Capitol Hill Outfitters was stellar in assisting me in recommending hikes and access points for snow showing and hiking areas and hooking me up with the equipment I needed. I am so grateful to have a local gear rental place because when living in an apartment, it’s so annoying to own to gear with limited space. This makes activities like camping and snow shoeing more accessible to people like me and I really appreciate that! The rental pickup/return window is super convenient as well, which made everything stress free. I will definitely be returning and will seek out Tim for advice again!

Gmail - Catherine St. Clair: Tim and his team were instrumental in helping take our first-ever backpacking trip as a family (including two kids, ages 8 and 4). Capitol Hill Outfitters has a great selection of well-curated and high-quality gear, and the expertise as to what to choose and what might be needed were invaluable. We will cherish our memories of traipsing through the forest and camping under the stars with our kids, and we would not have been able to pull it off without Capitol Hill Outfitters. Highly recommend for any outdoor gear/supply needs in the DC area!!!

Bridget W.: While I was thrilled to rent gear from a local place rather than somewhere like REI, this was missing some of the perks of a larger company. Pick up and drop off hours are very limited and the process may be slow if there are others there. I had only one tent to drop off and it took almost an hour because every person in front of me had to take all their items out for inspection. They staff member there was clearly stressed but was also slightly rude when interacting with customers who didn’t follow her instructions perfectly which made for a stressful experience. Seems like it might be time to hire additional hands to help with the gear pick up and drop off. Tent was good quality and prices reasonable.

Leah Kaplan: Capitol Hill Outfitters made it easy to rent high quality gear in a convenient and affordable manner. I really appreciated being able to rent just the gear I need rather than having to spend a lot of money on gear that I might use infrequently. I definitely plan to use them again for future outdoors trips!

Deidre Charles: I rented a backpack for a hiking trip in Arizona. I planned to rent from REI but the local store did not offer this service. I came across Capitol Hill Outfitters and had the best experience. They answered my questions and tailored my needs to the right equipment. I was given a thorough run down on how to wear and care for the back pack. The Capitol Hill Outfitters team was awesome!

Nicolas Bernal: My girlfriend and I planned a weekend camping trip to a Virginia state park to get away from the city. We made a reservation through the website, which was difficult to navigate. Thankfully, Tim followed up soon after to confirm the details of the reservation. When we arrived for our pickup appointment we found out that the package was not fully ready and we had to wait awhile. The equipment was in pristine condition and helped us have a great trip. Unfortunately, when it came time to return the equipment we ran into some issues. Since it had rained all weekend some of the equipment was still damp, even after we had cleaned it. The business charged us $48 for not perfectly drying the equipment. This seemed a bit excessive given our effort to return the equipment as we received it. Great products, but lacking in customer service. Over and out!

David Kief: Looking for camping gear to rent for my family including two small kids for a first time camping experience. Website was easy to use and Tim followed up to make sure we had everything we needed. They made it really easy to get outdoors. Shoutout to KC for going through all the details and assistance getting me and the gear home!

REI Co-op: what do users think?

Michael Brown: As a company, REI should not inflict their political beliefs onto customers. That said, they carry good gear and this particular location is fantastic. Every time I have come here they have exactly what I need. The staff are friendly and helpful and generally knowledgeable. I don’t know who makes REI branded clothes and gear, but they do a good job.

Mike R: I like this store for so many reasons. First: they have excellent customer service. Today I walked in with my bike to get my flat tire fixed. A woman approached me and signed me in. Then a man walked up to me and asked if I would like to him to park my bike. I was appalled by this gesture. Second: This establishment has everything here. I mean like… leave that bike area if you want to. You will be buying anything from energy gel to underwear. Third: conveniently located right beside the metro.

Anne Probst: Thank you Jeremy in cycling for taking care of my bike I commute on. Haley assisted and was down to earth and happy. High five to Micah in footwear who helped me find a size in a scarpa I haven’t been able to find in stores in 4 years. He’s super knowledgeable and was connecting with all the customers. Thank you REI DC!

Louisa Buatti: I visited REI for the first time since the pandemic began. My pick up of an online order went very smoothly. Every staff person I encountered was friendly and helpful--they all offered to direct me to the customer service/pick up area. I was in and out of the store in a flash.

H Gill: Great store! love REI… but checking out here is always a 15 min wait. The checkout line moves at a snail’s pace, and the managers/supervisors don’t seem to care. I’ve seen customers put items down and leave out of frustration.

Rebecca Tolbert: Generally a good store, but the parking situation is currently very weird. You park in the parking deck and then have to walk all the way around a whole city block because they have blocked off the elevator and stairs. So, you drive into the parking deck and then have this surprise journey ahead of you, through a sketchy alley and everything. Just wanted to give other customers a heads up!

R: Oddly enough they aren’t dog friendly yet I saw a pitbull walking around without a service vest. The area around is horrendous, good luck finding a parking spot. Really disappointed that REIs aren’t dog friendly yet their competitors REI and Bass Pro is.

Arc’teryx Washington DC Brand Store: what do users think?

ze yu ding: The service is nice but be careful about the price they charge. I just purchased a Beta Jacket today, MSRP is $350, with sales tax the price should be around $371. However, the store charged me $424. They told me this only happened today (I believe them), but please just double check the price when you still in the store, otherwise you may need to spend another 1 hour of your day to drive to the store to get the money back, just like me.

Derek: Great customer service! They stock a number of items from their current line but not the full range.

Fox Owl: This location has taken Covid paranoia way too far. They seem more interested in Covid then helping customers planning to spend thousands of dollars. I was wearing a mask and well dressed and before they even welcomed me to the store I was hit with Covid requirements. I just turned around and left.

Patrick F.: Return policy sucks. I bought a jacket with sleeves 2 inches too long. When I tried to bring it back they would not take it because it was "worn". They would not even issue me a store credit. I let them know I shop here a lot and was told "sorry". Someone needs to teach this company real customer service. (Hello Nordstrom!) So: nice products, poor fit, poor customer service, and pricey. Shoppers may want to consider another brand like Columbia.

Joseph Althouse: Great assortment of products. Friendly, helpful customer service.

Christian McQuay: Wow, what a great experience! Excellent customer service. This is a great brand. Thank you taking for taking the covid pandemic seriously.

Huiju Han: The staff was extremely nice and friendly. Never pushy and even offered recommendations to other brands of similar products. I stopped by a couple times to pick up some items for a ski trip, and both times were provided with excellent customer service.

Becca Macchio: Entered the store to shop for an upcoming trip to the Himalaya’s. The women who approached me to help, awkwardly backed away from me every time I tried to speak with her as if I was some sort of diseased monster. I don’t know if this is a store policy or if she’s just one of those paranoid covid people but it was so unbecoming that I just felt unwanted and left, along with the several thousand dollars I instead spent at REI later in the day.

Casual Adventure Outfitters: what do users think?

Megan Troke: We had a question about the security of our roof rack bars and without hesitation, they came out in the rain to reassure us that they were secure!! There was so much good stuff in store as well, and I was able to find a fanny pack which I’d been looking for all day. Can’t appreciate their friendliness and customer service enough!

Kostadin Kushlev: These guys are top notch! Super friendly and helpful, they patiently answered allMy questions about selecting a bike rack for my car. Heck, They even helped me install it!! I cannot recommend this store highly enough!!

Matthew Castell: I’ve been searching for a benchmade auto knife for a while now but haven’t been able to get my hands on any near Fredericksburg. After searching the dealers page on benchmade I stumbled across this place and decided to make the trip. Was not disappointed at all, John and the two other gentleman there (didn’t get their names) were extremely helpful and they for sure had a great selection. I’ll for sure be back. Thanks!

Mike: I went there for a replacement tent pole. They found what I needed (I could not find it anywhere including a well known store online). Needed minor modification to make the end fit into the bracket with the adjacent pole. Works well! Thanks again!

Charlie Jones: Very helpful staff. Went in looking for new hiking boots, and the man who helped us was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Would go again.

Fisch Face: Fun little camping store very knowledgeable. Lot of good inventory.

Meet Miss Sallyy: Very helpful and friendly staffs. We got our scout uniform pants.

Matt DiNuzzo: Great store! Came here to get some disc golf discs and the employees were very friendly and helpful! Great local business!

Patagonia: what do users think?

Gaurav Aggarwal: Lots of options but not as wide as what is available online. And expensive too. But the staff was super helpful.

zeke kooyer: Great customer service. Everyone is really nice and they have all the essentials stocked. Best quality for the price in town.

K Perkins: Great store and very friendly and helpful staff. I had a broken zipper tab on my 4 year old fleece and they replaced it free of charge (Patagonia guarantee) in ten minutes. Love Patagonia and love their clothing! Note you may have to make an appointment as they are limiting the number of people in the store due to COVID.

Tomas Garcia: This store is very well decorated and distributed. It packs two floors of very good quality clothing for cold weather. Most if not all of the clothing items are made from recycled materials, so on top of wearing top quality and fashionable clothing you are helping the environment by buying from the Patagonia brand. Excellent experience and excellent products.

Enrico Tocol: The staff were very helpful and nice. I had to return one item and planned to get another item repaired. They returned the item without any hassle and the one that’s supposed to be repaired, they just offered to replace it with a new one. Excellent customer service and warranty policy! Kudos to Patagonia for responsible business and customer centered practices. Will continue to buy Patagonia products.

Lindsey Casella: Great standards! I had an issue with product purchased at different location, but was running late to DC store to exchange - I called ahead and store let me in 5 minutes after closing to resolve issue. Great, accommodating staff! // Only issue is map location was different from physical address.

Laura McAuley: The best customer service and you don’t even have to explain yourself three times! A quality staff who are happy to help you. The store front is a bit understated that it’s a little hard to find, so make sure you don’t pass it by...like I always do. The Saturday I dropped by, they were serving yummy hummus, stuffed grape leaves, some tacos-type finger food and beer. They were having a fund raiser for cleaning up the wetlands in Ward 8. Gotta love it! Patagonia makes good clothes that fit well and do what they say it does; either to keep you really warm or really cool. Quality stuff comes with a price, but why buy three cheap shirts when you can wear one that washes well, keeps you comfortable and has a flattering fit?

Filson: what do users think?

Autumn Boyd: We always love our visits into to Filson. Christina was extremely helpful and assisted me in finding the right fit and style of clothing.

Mike Wolff: Popped in today to see the Filson story at first hand. Very friendly and knowledgeable customer service team who explained some of the history, shared some stories and made me feel very welcome. Really liked their products and I will be back soon with my wife to pick some pieces up. Great work!

Allie Benedetti: Beautiful store, great quality clothing, very pricey. Sales team is so nice and knowledgeable, they are definitely chatty and do like ask you every few minutes how you’re doing - we were asked 4 times in the span of 10 minutes if we needed a dressing room lol, I appreciated the customer service although it was slightly overbearing.

Jack Palmer: Drove over from Baltimore specifically to visit the store. Excellent, friendly staff, and small but well stocked store. Wanted to try on the Running Wolf sweater. Extremely dense heavy wool sweater that would keep you warm in the coldest of conditions. Have bought from Filson for at least twenty years now, and happy to say, they continue to maintain their quality.

Diane Schulz: This is the most fun store. I knew what I wanted and thought I would be in and out. I was offered a Saturday Moscow Mule upon entering and greeted by a personal shopper. She showed me around and then backed off while I enjoyed the space. The comfortable couches and sunny space give time to contemplate all the goodies you want to buy. Have loved the product for years but really love the store.

Kenneth Kilgour: For those of us of a certain age, Filson is now what that Maine retailer with the iconic hunting shoes used to be. Not all of their goods are made in the US, but most are. The quality is unfailing. And the folks at the DC store are knowledgeable and personal. This is one of the few brick and mortar stores I still shop at.

REI: what do users think?

Stoonookw: Omg Brett is amazing helper and needs a raise like today. Elise is also amazing but I think I spoke with Brett the majority of the time. So I basically bought everything that I needed at this REI and was extremely satisfied with the equipment, price tags, and of course the service. I felt bad like I was taking too long to decide on which equipment I was going to buy, but after dropping over 1k at the store and getting a lot of pro tips, I now love the REI experience

XAVIER AGNELLI: I go to REI quite often and I have to say the Bailey’s crossroads is always one of my favorites because of the staff. Today I had a great experience with Sam, who was in the floor. He approached me and asked me if I found everything that I was looking for to which my answer was no and he helps me track down the item that I want at the store in DC he called ahead had them hold it and then called me and told me that they’re holding it for me so that I could go pick it up at the DC location. Sam went above and beyond and is a perfect example of the generally good experience that I have when I am at the Baileys crossroads location. Thanks Sam!

Kimberly R: I wanted to say thank you to Ryan M. and Janice B. for fixing my foot pain! They are the shoe/foot experts at REI! I came in with horrible foot pain and blisters just after walking only a few miles. They discovered that I was wearing shoes 1 size too small (!) and were able to recommend a great brand of shoe to give me more room in the toe box (Altra Shoes). Ever since I wore the shoes they recommended I have had ZERO foot pain or blisters. They saved my feet. Thank you to Ryan and Janice!

Anolis Sagrei: DC flagship store has much better selection and allows dogs. Not only does this location not permit dogs, they were a little cold in their answer when I asked at the door if they permitted them. I must understandably leave my dog on our houseboat when shopping at grocery stores, but as she gets anxious left alone, I like to keep her with me when possible. An outdoor store that is so dog unfriendly is a bit of a contradiction.

Parker Lowe: SAM did a great job helping me pick out a large variety of gear the last time I shopped here. 10/10 experience, now I recommend this location to everyone I know.

curse_of_dimensionality: Got adjustments done at the bike shop and my derailleur was completely misaligned when I got it back. Very disappointed with the experience

Orvis: what do users think?

Rob Thomas: Always have a great shopping experience. Customer service is top notch. This is my go to store for clothes. :)

Bree Northrop: The store is on the smaller size but the staff is phenomenal which makes up for the that.

Tom Johnson-Medland: Love this shop. Super attentive staff. Great selection of Orvis-ware. A couple of new things I hadn’t seen or owned before. Never hard to part with cash here. Good solid craftsmanship and everything lasts a good long time. Great place to have a store. Thanks ORVIS!

Seth Denbo: Always a good experience shopping in Orvis stores. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and always enjoyable to talk to.

Erin Hay: Louis is a fantastic sales associate - go see him! In a world of ever-deteriorating customer service, he’s a shining example of professionalism. Will be back to this store again solely because of him!

Carey Kirk: As is typical of the Orvis company, this store was staffed by two very polite and professional sales associates (young men) who knew their merchandise and who had obviously received good training. The merchandise was all displayed neatly and organized by season, new arrivals then seasonal then sale merch, this I was told upon being greeted when walking in. And of course the Orvis quality at those price points still amazes me.

Wilson A: Really good place to go for Barbour repair and waxing. They have the checklist, understand the pricing, and know how it all works. Interested to see how my 20 year old jacket comes back.

Seth Theuerkauf: Had to do an exchange of an item ordered online, and they were extremely efficient and very customer oriented. Great job! Will definitely be retuning for more doggie items.

Columbia Factory Store: what do users think?

T Garcia: Return policy - even with a receipt, after 60 days they will not give you merchandise credit for the price you paid. They will give you whatever it rings up as. So if you paid $40 for a jacket, you may get back $9 in store credit.

Tracey Banks: Omg! I went in this store and the customer service I got there was excellent! There was a young lady by the name Asya that helped me. Her customer service skills are on point! I know I was a bit much but she remain so sweet and patient with me. If you stop in and get her you won’t be disappointed trust me. Give a raise!

gidi stern: Good prices. Unfortunately no fitting rooms available makes shopping difficult

CW RN: After completely forgetting there was an outlet much closer than Potomac Mills, I remembered The Tanger. I called the Columbia store to check on the coats I was interested in. I believe his name was Cody I spoke with and he was not only friendly but knowledgeable. I made it to the store to find the discount Cody spoke of was true and as a major plus, they also offered an additional 20% off for service members, 1st responders, teachers and students. Needless to say I forgot my ID at home but i called the wife to meet me half way. I was so pleased with all the savings I left with a huge smile on my face plus 2 great winter coats for the kids that just the day prior I saw at Kohls on "sale" for considerably more.

Iriana Cruz: I bought hiking boots in this store, took them on a 2 week vacation. The first hike the boot broke. I called the company and they told me if I had bought it online they could have fixed the issue but told me to go to the store. So.. I went to the store they laughed at me that the boots where used... and told me with attitude "no way we are giving you new boots" ... I just wanted to get this issue fixed and they did not even tried to help (even though the store was empty with 4 employees..) also..the boots broke mid hike the first time ...was I suppose to walk back barefoot in mud? yeah... point is if you want to buy Columbia buy online or at least not at this store. (I never do bad reviews but I just needed to inform about this issue)

Kagan Cubukcu: You cannot find all types of clothes

David W.: We love the fashion and variety of clothing and accessories here. Terrific sun block protection is readily available in mamy of the products offered

Timothy Smith: The associates were very helpful.Top notch customer service

DICK'S Sporting Goods: what do users think?

Aaron Contic: Came into this location to purchase a set of irons, found a set of Taylormade M2 irons that I initially thought were correctly priced at $499. I asked the team member working in the golf department that I was interested and ask where the rest of the set was. He replied that the rest of the set was missing. I asked what was the current price with 3 clubs of the 7 iron set missing? His response was “that’s the price, my manger won’t change it for some reason, but you can ask him” So I asked to speak to the manger which He initially said was available. I was then told that the manager currently on duty was conveniently on a conference call and was now unavailable and the answer was “NO” on a new price for the remaining clubs. To start the team member was friendly and helpful. That being said. I’m also a manager in retail and if a customer asked to talk to a manager about a reasonable question. Im not going to have my employee have to tell the customer “NO” That’s terrible customer service and it’s also a bad business practice to try to sell customers a product that’s missing pieces for the same price as if it’s not!

Maritza Cooper: Always a pleasure to visit this location. The store is always clean and organized. You usually get greeted as you walk in the door. The associates are always helpful and pretty knowledgeable. They will go out of their way to help! Well stocked too! Bought a fitness trampoline to keep a 7 yr old from going stir crazy in an apartment during these NO School days! Hope it works! It was Waaay up high. Had 3 different associates make sure I got what needed. All while helping other customers.

Ara Koh: Ok location compared to other ones. Nicely organized but their shoes selection is not so great.

The Next King: Shallun was amazing!!!! Great help. First time coming to Dick’s Sporting Goods and I was impressed I will be back thank you.

david fegan: good experience shopping here today. multiple staff members were helpful.

Angie Owens: oh my goodness I was on the phone with my cousin, while she was shopping for football cleats for her son. When I tell you that the amount of "OUTSTANDING" customer service that the professional young lady "Ryan" gave to her while she was shopping was absolutely amazing!! I had to tell my cousin through the phone to please tell Ms. Ryan that the level of coatomer service she gave was "THE BEST" that I have seen in a very long time. Ryan if your reading this please keep up the good work!! I am extremely proud of you young lady.

Liliana Gonzalez: Zach did a great job helping me find the the gym equipment I needed. He even helped me load these items into my car after I doubted if the gym equiptment I bough would fit. Thank you so much to him and Horse for the exellent service!

Bella Adoni: Varieties of sports goods. Place was clean and staffs very attentive. They acknowledged us at the time of entry. I and my friend were the only customers in the store. I could have given the store five stars if the price for most of the items were reasonable.

Ronda Heilig: The Scout Store staff are always friendly and helpful! And the store is very well stocked, whether you are looking for camping supplies, merit badge pamphlets, uniforms, or purchasing badges/patches/belt loops for your Troop or Pack.

Jerry Miranda: This is a great Scout store. Lots of merchandise and quality products. If you are into outdoor activities, the store may have the product for you. The prices are competitive with other outdoor retailers.

Karin E: The lady in front desk was helpful to figure out the size of the uniforms however because of the global supply chain dilemma, they will receive the items with delays.

Cbrx: A nice little shop with nice employees. Customer service was good and everything I need was there. Everything was a bit overpriced though, but overall it was a great experience shopping here.

Brett Korade: The scouting program has been part of our family for generations. Foundational building blocks of a moral life and a faith filled one should you so desire!!

Shops at Mount Vernon: what do users think?

Awesome Soda: I went on my DC trip got a Kentuckian musket and tri-corner hat and a coffee cup for my mom 10/10 awesome place

Gina Kolarchick: Loved the shops at Mount Vernon. Cafe seemed to be understocked but understood being a Saturday.

Michael Furmaniuk: Good selection of Revolutionary Era materials for young and old. Nice they had a Christmas Corner. Would have loved to get some whiskey but a little steep for me.

Rebekah Graves: It was ok but not great like other gift shops

Joshua Graham: Bought honey, and was actually pretty good.
