Bennett Career Institute: what do users think?

DonDiva Davis: They've allowed me to establish a career in this Industry for the past 18 years. As a 2x Valedictorian I would highly recommend Bennett to anyone in pursuit of an awesome and amazing career jump start into the Beauty & Barbering Industry!

natalie: I always love going here. The students and staff are pleasant, I really enjoy the way they compliment one another, that can be so important to a person to hear that someone liked what they did or what they are doing. A compliment can go a long way.

R.L. D: This place apparently passes off your social and any other information that you give the to a third party. I moved from another state and had to get my id mailed to the new state that I moved to and I has a Maryland address. They said 5 different reasons that why my identification was no good and apparent it was. The “third” party service that they use without permission because I never signed any paperwork giving the Bennett career institute permission to send my sensitive information to a party of people that has nothing to do with this establishment. I pray that there is no fraud on my credit and social. I do not know who this processor is and nor will “doctor” Bonita branch, nor will the head of administrations at this office provide me with who these people are. This school is extremely fishy and if you value your personal information don’t apply or go to this school.

Deborah Simms: Excellent service and stylist are courtesy to customers concerns for satisfactory appearances .

Wendy W: I have been coming here for years; the students change and so have the instructors, BUT the level of professionalism and quality of service has not. Their work often surpasses profession beauty salons which are much pricier. You get a great deal in a real quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Schiieyenne Parker-Bowser: Ms. Polite is rude as hell. I called a phone number that my child called me from and asked a question and she got so rude. She is a supposedly student at the Bennet Hair School/Institute on Monroe street in DC. I was disrespected and rudely treated. She is not someone to go to to get her hair done, if that’s her real name. To be polite is totally different from what this person gave, horribly disrespectful.

Tracy Cross Lucas: Always have a great experience here except after COVID. Website is NOT updated. Went after taking Friday off to be informed that I needed an appointment-not on website-other services, like eyebrow waxing are not offered-COVID and not listed on website AND they are now closed on SATURDAY. I was informed this by the woman at the service window. Please update the site. Another person walked in after me, without an appointment, and had to go through the same ordeal. That sucks.

Sandra Jenkins: Got to my appointment early. Staff was kind enough to start servicing me before my scheduled appointment. Due to shortage of students staff pitched in to service clients. Got finished in very timely manner.

A Diablo: The hair service I received was great I just didn't like how my shirt was stained in the process and the lack of action accountability around that incident. I'm unsure if I will be returning.

Annette Wiggins-Bey: I appreciate their professionalism, I was taken care of in a timely fashion. I definitely will recommend to family. I live in Baltimore and don't trust no one there to put hands in my head . It is beautiful that I can come back home and find someplace where the customer is definitely number one. Thank you!!

The Salon Professional Academy DC: what do users think?

Sarah Rawlins: I get my hair cut here regularly. It usually takes 3+ hours for a cut and blow out (but I do have really long hair). Quality is usually good (sometimes decent, sometimes excellent) and the instructors are attentive to what's happening. I've never had a bad cut but I did have a student break a lot of my hair by brushing it really rough once. As long as you can give a clear description of what look you want and you're really comfortable speaking up if there's an issue, this is a great option for a nice cut at a budget price.

S B: The two black males at the front desk act like females on their menstrual cycle - they had very nasty attitudes, so if you don't want to deal with that, then don't bother. The 30-minute facial was AMAZING, so I highly recommend it. The manicure and pedicure were beyond HORRIBLE... polish on all cuticles, no cleaning work done on cuticles, lazy two swipe scrub, and more issues! Even my 5 year-old niece could do better! While I understand that the students are unlicensed, not polishing cuticles is basic knowledge and shouldn't be done. No real supervision of students' work was done and when I asked for correction, there was attitude as if I did something wrong. SMH. Essentially, the manicure and pedicure were just incredibly long, poor polish jobs.

Caitlin Rogalski: Myesha and the whole team on the spa side of the house are amazing. The Beyond Botox and hydrafacial are life changing and so well priced. I laughed and took a few years off. Highly recommend! Not a better deal in DC.

Marcellus Smith: Im writing this review for my friend who wanted to stay announced, I was a client this evening and I’m appalled . Two clients came in with special needs one appeared to be deef and I believe blind. I over heard that she was getting her hair done for her birthday. How special. I witnessed the students but mainly the staff laughing and making jokes about them. The nice young lady who styled her hair was the only one that treated this young lady with dignity and the respect that she deserved. The helper that came with the client (not making assumptions )appeared to be apart of the LGBQ community. I witnessed staff talk negatively about him/her as he/she got up with his walking cane to use the restroom. This is the most unprofessional environment I have ever been. I will be reporting this to the media. I do not recommend anyone to receive services at this school. I will tell everyone I know to avoid this hair school especially those with special needs. I’m so sad.
Response: As a business we generally do not respond to reviews we find it a losing battle to have to address online forums where anyone is allowed to write, and post, anything they would like about a business. That someone can fabricate situations, twist them to fit the narrative they are trying to push seems like a giant waste of time to us. A perfect example of what we are speaking of here is your "review" below. First, we had no clients scheduled in our building yesterday evening before 6:00pm. The client you are speaking of in your review left our Academy around 4:30pm. Even if the events you "witnessed" did actually happen there would be no way you could have experienced this if you were a client in the evening. Secondly, we are an LGBTQ+ owned business who has many staff members AND students who identify in all sorts of ways. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive space that welcomes, and celebrates EVERYONE for exactly who they are. We have worked with SMYAL for one of our student events and we have welcomed any guest through our doors for nearly 5 years regardless of how they identify as an individual, or their sexual orientation. Third, we do agree that this guest celebrating their birthday was special. Which is why this guest was given a $20 discount on their service! Lastly, I was on the clinic floor for most of the guests appointment that you seem to have concerns about. What was discussed amongst staff were two things: 1) did the guest show up for the consultation appointment we booked for them on Friday to decide what type of style they would be receiving and 2) just how amazing of a job our STUDENT was doing on this service. In a world filled with so much negativity please try and refrain from creating more of it needlessly. Nobody in our building was talking about this, or any other, guest as you described. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call the academy and ask to speak to the owner and we would be happy to discuss them with you.

Acee Holmes: Talena did a great job on my facial. Told me everting that will help me with my acne. Awesome job Talena keep up the good work.

T Stiverson: I loved being in this space. Everyone was professional and thorough, especially Diana and instructor Camden. Diana was easy to talk to and connect with, and she really took the time to make sure my hair was cut and styled in the way I wanted it to be. I opted out of blow drying and she braided my hair instead. The braiding may seem to be a minuscule detail, but it made a big difference on my final look and feel walking out of the salon. THANK YOU BOTH :)

Jess: I went here to get my hair done for a friends wedding and it came out wonderfully. Because it turned out so great for such a great price I agreed to have my hair done again for another friends wedding today. The woman I had seen had scheduled me for today at 2:30 PM. Initially for my first appointment I had received a confirmation call and when I realized I hadn’t received a confirmation call for this second appointment I tried to call the Academy about seven different times today. No one picked up so I ended up driving over and of course the entire salon was closed and I was not able to get my hair done despite being told that I was scheduled for this date at this time in person when I had lost come in. Very annoyed.

Alicia Hughes: I’ve been coming here for a few years on and off but ever since I’ve had the pleasure of having Cherie do my hair I’ve been coming more often! She always does an amazing job and she has a great personality! We talk about anything and everything which makes the time go by fast. I also love the salon and the instructors are also great. :)

Jessica Anderson: I wish I actually COULD rate but I made an appointment a few days in advance. I confirmed by text and email multiple times and then 15 mins before my appointment they called to cancel my appointment saying they didn’t have enough students. I don’t live in DC so I was already 5mins away. I’ve gone to beauty schools for years and this was never a problem and so disappointed because it’s hard to get a same day hair appointment now.
Response: Thank you for your review, Jessica and we are truly sorry that we had to cancel. Unfortunately, when students do not attend class there is little we can do. We will reach out this week to try and make this better for you.

Allison Whitney: I made an appointment at TSPA a couple weeks ago for a haircut and Gianni did an amazing job! I have long wavy hair and the layers and styling looked incredible for such an affordable price. Unlike other salons, no one was pushy about purchasing overpriced hair products. Gianni gave a soothing scalp massage while shampooing my hair, so great that I went back 2 weeks later just for a shampoo and blow dry. Highly recommend Gianni and TSPA to anyone as it’s now become my go to spot.

Paul Mitchell The School Tysons Corner: what do users think?

Hyun Yang: This is a few months short of the actual service but one review I felt I needed to share. Went in to get a hair color and haircut done but was rescheduled twice before my actual appointment due to student cancellations/the other a snow delay. Finally went in for service and settled on what color I wanted and the look I desired (showed picture up front). The stylist and I discussed what I wanted which was a balayage look but then decided mutually to do a mushroom brown coloring to the whole head (again photo brought out to show after switching from the balayage look). So the stylist began work and we chitchatted for a long time and as I was checking in with the stylist, she seemed to be frazzled with her progress so the professional stepped in and tried to help. I saw that she began bleaching my hair (which first of all was unnecessary) and second, she had me foiled up with bleached hair for a total of 1 hour!! I saw as she peeled the foil what color came out and it was totally blonde!! I was dumbfounded and utterly speechless. I asked if that was the final color and she said it would be okay and looked great. They had me at the shop until close from 5-10pm for what? Unnecessary time, damage to my hair and just utterly the worst hair care experience of my entire 30+years of life. The stylist also did not give me a haircut which I had already paid for. I ended up leaving the shop with bleached blonde hair that I did not ever request (how can someone think mushroom brown was blonde???) and also no haircut…. Had called the manager to complain and all she said was that I signed a waiver in the beginning understanding that these are students and there is no refund. I totally understand this but there should be some adjustment for a failed hair experience and they should not charge for a redo. I finally ended going back but it still did not measure up to what I wanted and left me VERY unsatisfied and terribly disappointed and ontop paid an extra $20 (materials fee) after the initial $105 charge from the failed first hair dye and haircut. Will never go back and hope that you reconsider where you spend your precious time and money!

Mayga Sapru: I am absolutely appalled at the poor service I received at Paul Mitchell Tysons Corner today. For some context, I booked my appointment 1 month ago and called again yesterday to confirm that my appointment was still on. So today, I drove an hour from Maryland to Virginia for my appointment and when I got there, I was told that there was no stylist that could do my balayage. When I asked why I was booked on a day/time when there was no balayage stylist or why I wasn't called prior to my appointment time to be informed, the receptionist simply said, "well, I just got onto my shift." Her lack of empathy was disgusting and not an ounce of her even seemed sorry. I am dumbfounded at how from opening at 9:15 am to 12:45 (my appointment time), Paul Mitchell receptionists couldn't spare 2 minutes to call me and tell me that there wasn't a stylist available for me. I understand that this salon is associated with a school and so the service may not be up to normal salon standards, but a phone call to inform the customer is just plain decency and a requirement of the job. Frustrated with my situation, I asked if I could just get my hair cut instead of my earlier balayage plans. The receptionist asked around and she told me that no stylist wanted to take on a cut either. Keep in mind its about 1:00pm at this point and the salon doesn't close for another 2 hours. So, not one stylist was willing to spare 15-20 minutes in the next 2 hours to even cut my hair. I think the biggest indicator that the stylists weren't truly busy, but just being lazy became apparent through their responses. The receptionist told me that the stylists didn't WANT to do it, not that they COULDN'T. The receptionist offered to reschedule me for tomorrow, but I'm not available tomorrow, so I said no. To be honest, even if I was available tomorrow, I could never trust that they wouldn't pull this same thing again and after my experience today, I will never go back. I've honestly never in my life felt the need to write a review about a negative experience I've had with an establishment, but the Paul Mitchell Tysons staff was so unbelievably lazy, unaccommodating, and non-empathetic, that I had to write one. It wasn't really the mishap, but how poorly they handled the mistake that turned me off. UNLESS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR YOUR TIME TO BE WASTED, DO NOT COME HERE AND PLEASE DON'T SUPPORT SUCH A BADLY ORGANIZED PLACE!

Sarai Brown: Alumni student. While attending I was facing hardships that left me homeless… the “learning leaders” reported me, saying they collectively did not like my negativity attitude which was identified as negative simply because I did not smile while walking the halls. (I have email correspondence) Additionally, after learning about relaxers I decided to cut mine out & one of the biracial African American leaders told me not to because “I wouldn’t know how to do my hair”.

Ashy B: I've been here a few times over the years (as a customer) and it's decent enough. I really only choose this place for the prices and I get good service. But what you can get would depend on who is working/teaching (one person approved a perm and another didn't, so it definitely depends on who you get, note the perm issues were due to dyed hair). This place is good, I just wish the hours were different (more hours on Fridays and weekends) or that there was an easier way to schedule appointments other than calling in (they close at like 3pm fri-mon so it's hard to reach out if you work a 9-5 on any of those days). Maybe an online appointments system would work? But they are a school first so maybe it's too much. Anyways, they're still pretty decent and you can't beat the prices.

Cristina & Paul Klima: After signing my consent form to have my hair done, the teacher comes back and tells me that they can't do my hair cause I made the student "uncomfortable" when we have know the student for over a year. Oh well my business and services are going back to Bubbles til my original stylist isn't booked up. So seems that Bubbles will get me back today along with the tip $$ I was going to give this friend💁🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

soha firoozeh: “A style by Zahra (Pearl) is a wonderful experience, Zahra is awesome. I trust her and always receive complements on how I look. Thank You!”Thank You for being the best hairdresser in the World! ” “Great experience at Paul Mitchell Hair Studio, wonderful customer service, friendly people and amazing styles!”

Whippet Wuver: I wish there were more than 5 stars --this place is fabulous!!! I lucked into having Rob as my stylist. He gave me the most wonderful haircut and showed me some time saving styling techniques that really work. He used some new-to-me hair products which worked great - all the while teaching me why they worked so well without the hard sell that one usually gets at even the best salons. This young artist has a very, very bright future! The rest of the staff, from the supervisors to the receptionists were so friendly and polite, and the prices are more than excellent. I left there feeling so good that I could have floated on cloud nine all the way home.

Matthew McGarry: Every time I have come here, the front end staff have been nothing but rude! This school does a fine job prepping students for their careers in cutting hair but only that. It is clear that many students do not know the main points of customer service. Additionally, it recently snowed in the DC metro, and I was not notified that all appointments had been canceled. After driving in the weather to get to my appointment, I was rudely told that no one was there. The front end student was annoyed that I disturbed her FaceTime call. Again, not what I would think to expect in a professional work environment.

Sara Haq: This place has dropped tremendously in quality over the years. I've been coming here for over a decade and today was by far the worst experience. Asked for 1.5 inches off and long layers. After almost 2 hours of being in the chair, the student accidentally cut off 3-4 inches. Instead of apologizing, the manager came to threaten me and made me feel unsafe. I left with an incomplete job. Never going back.

Kristen Topping: I've been twice for a trim and highlights and had the best and worst cut/color, both with phase 2 students near graduation. The first time my student was great and the instructor was very helpful during the consultation. He provided suggestions that she might offer based on my hair and did a good job helping her explain the services to me. The hair cut was one of the best I have had ever. More recently, my hair looked fine when I walked in and horrible when I walked out. The hair cut was rushed and so-so. Unlike my first visit, there wasn't much consultation and although the highlights took much longer, it all felt rushed. When I went home and brushed my hair, I began to see that the color was about an inch from the root in several places, particularly noticeable when I pulled my hair back or parted it. I returned to see if I could get the color fixed. The same instructor was there and said they could, but also continued to explain how highlights don't reach the root and that this was a teaching school. I understand that there is a learning curve, but addressing mistakes is how people learn. I spoke with the manager and another instructor was able to come in and assist with the consultation. She explained to the student what the mistake was and why my hair looked like I needed to get it done rather than that I just had it done. She then advised the student, Sarah, how to fix the problem and she did a great job. When I walked out again, it looked much better. Overall, I think the students are great and there are probably more good experiences than bad experiences. I will definitely go back, but will also be much more careful to look at my hair before I leave.

American Association of Cosmetology Schools: what do users think?

Joe Trieu: We have been members for nearly 15 years and will continue to be a member as long as we are in the industry. AACS does an amazing job helping our schools grow and improve to become better. They also are incredible advocates for our students on both the national and state level. If you are a beauty school, you need to be part of this group! Keep up the great work!

University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC): what do users think?

Henok D: The most terrible school I have ever been to. Both the main campus and the Community college are the same. A lot of slow, unprofessional, and rude staff who keep yelling at students when they are not even doing their jobs properly. I submitted a certain paper to the Financial Aid office and they told me they lost the paper after weeks that I had to pay about $1700 out of pocket. During the 2020 Pandemic, I tried to contact them as I was having difficulty to waive the Student Insurance that is provided through the school because I already had an insurance coverage; no one answered my call until it was due. And now Miss Gaskon told me that I have to pay about $1300 for the coverage I never needed. Mis Gascon was there in 2018/19 when I had the same issue; she helped me waive it then. I could not go to her office in 2020 be a of Covid restrictions. I tried to solve the issue communicating with them but nothing got better yet. I would not recommend anyone to go the UDC unless one needs a headache. I cannot deny that there are some great Professors such as Prof. Sonnie Abebaku. However, individuals are very helpful to us, it’s overall experience at the university that makes a difference in our academic lives. So far, my overall experience is just TERRIBLE!

Danielle Carroll: I went to school here for my AA and it was a breeze. Yes the admissions needs some work (never fixed it) but the education, the teachers and the school itself is fine. It's so affordable and you can always learn something new. I got a paid internship through UDC and even though with it's slight hiccups, this school is still great. I'm at the main campus now working on my Bachelors and I'm 16 classes shy of finishing. Don't pay the haters any mind.

Edgar E: Worst administration I have ever had to deal with. Not only do they never respond to email or phone calls, they can't even keep track of ELECTRONIC applications, that required my daughter to submit 3 times and be forced enrolled late into classes due to their incompetence. But they also can't even have the literacy to read the applications correctly to charge the correct rate to students. They went ahead to charge not only my daughter but several other students out-of-state resident rates when all their applications illustrated DC residents. Like how can you not even read what's on the applications! How many other students were charged nearly 3 times when they should have been charged as a DC residents scares me on the level of corruption and neglect this body demonstrates to it's it's attendees.0 Then to not even have the decency and competence to even respond to emails and calls to try to correct this is just completely absurd, no wonder UDC is a laughing stock of a school to attend they can't even serve as a place to get extra credits for actual schools. How neglectful can you be to students and applicants, like seriously!

Lucien Graves: I was interested in nursing but the department leads never answer even with me contacting them daily for the last 3 months. Not to mention the admissions department takes 2 weeks to email back and never answers a single call. Just go in person, it's faster but still highly unprofessional since they eat and have conversations with others in front of you. You can see why they never answer.

Yesly Turcios: GLEN DOMINA rudest person ever if you are working under a facility and a Student is inquiring on information/assistance you should be able to provide that at your upmost ability but unfortunately that was not the case here..

Danny Hirschfield: I graduated UDC-CC with an AA degree in Liberal Studies Fall Class of 2015 Alumnus. This college really helped me develop my learning skills as I am an older non-traditional student that started as a freshman with very little prior knowledge and discipline in academia. I have transitioned to the UDC flagship campus pursuing my BA degree in Political Science as a pre-law student. This university is the most affordable place to get a good quality education being the only public higher learning institution in Washington, D.C.

Jamilya Allen: Okay So I applied about 3weeks to a month ago and I’ve yet to receive any papers informing me if I was missing any documents or etc. I’ve called at least 5 times a day for about two weeks straight leaving voicemail after voicemail and no one has yet to return my call not only did I call multiple times I have also emailed them multiple and no response. It’s ridiculous what’s the point of having an admissions office if they not even going to pick up the phone, guide you in the process of being admitted or anything else like you guys get paid to do nothing it’s sad.

h T: This University has only good professors! But getting a Bachelor from the UDC will not get you a job!! Their jobs faire is just to get a website from the companies and brochures lol!

Jordan Stewart: The financial aid lady with gray hair and dreads is disrespectful af. Most of the staff here are disorganized and rude. I disenrolled 2 months ago. When I went to disenroll the lady was eating crab legs in front of me. Come to find out she never really disenrolled me, and I had to go back up there today. Smh. I really wanted this to work bc I’m a Dc Resident but I’m enrolling at PGCC.

    MICHAEL HILL: No comment
