I was only left with unpacking the personal stuff.

I have used storage before so I was nervous, but the crew who arrived was excellent. I actually saw a familiar face with Ian who had helped to move me in my last place a few years earlier. I was impressed by how organized Dex, Dakarai, and Ian were. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Dex took pictures of everything going into storage and I received an inventory with those pictures for my records. I felt confident that my furniture would be carefully packed and stored. The coordination was good, the packing crew was on time, very courteous and very careful with our goods, and the loading crew was also super careful. Elmer, P, Ricardo, and Amal were professional and efficient, and took especially good care of our fragile items. The movers wrapped everything up and were thoughtful in how they were stacking the large objects in the truck. They worked with our schedule, and showed up right on time to get the job done. They successfully hauled a heavy china cabinet with glass and mirrors over the deck outside from the second floor since it did not fit down our townhouse stairs. They came prepared with extra material to wrap the china cabinet, extra strong ropes, and tools. They also helped set up the china cabinet and tested the lights to make sure it was working properly. Overall, they went above and beyond to ensure that we were satisfied at the end of the job. We hired them twice, and would hire them again in the future. We highly recommend Gentle Giant Moving Company for any future moves.

My partner and I moved in together, and our moving team was so fast and efficient at each location they went to for our move. Our movers, Dex, Dakarai, Carlos, and Ricky were friendly, flexible when parking was difficult, very careful with our furniture, and SO FAST! Dex, Ian, Pernell and Amal helped me move back and they couldn’t have been better. Naomi: The best moving company. I had to put my things Into storage because of an issue with an apartment. Gentle giant made sure all of my things were wrapped carefully and cared for. When I got my things out of storage nothing was broken. The move out and in process was also pretty smooth. The only thing I would say to take note of, is that if you want to retrieve a few things from your storage unit with them, be prepared to pay a small fee. Gentle giant was definitely on the more expensive side, but they got the job done! I really appreciate this company for helping me out and I would recommend them to others.

We had a last minute local move with two toddlers so we knew we had to get help packing in addition to moving everything. Matt was very thorough! He had me walk through every room of my home to take inventory and give me an accurate quote. He was so responsive, even on the weekend, which we appreciated since we didn’t have much time to prepare. Javier, Otelindo, Ricardo, and Andrei took an already great experience to the next level. They arrived to pack early, worked extremely efficiently (with very little direction from me lol), and thoughtfully left things out for us to use for our last night in our old home. On moving day, they worked just as seamlessly while I was in and out running errands. They even executed a very impressive moving strategy when they couldn’t fit one of our sofas through the front door. The team finished earlier than Matt quoted me both days which is a big nod to their integrity and work ethic. Most of all, they were so warm and kind. My husband was working so I was at home alone managing the move and I felt so safe and comfortable with this Gentle Giant team. That alone is worth every penny spent!

Angela Grieco: I asked Carlos and team to help me move in early August 2021 and they were incredibly efficient, professional and knowledgeable. They did everything perfectly, from wrapping all of my furniture securely to packing my car for me. Their hourly rate is a steal, but hiring Carlos and his company is worth every penny and I’ll never move with anyone else. Community Resource Ministries: I moved my son from a studio apt in Alexandria to a duplex in Norfolk, VA. They arrived on time (early), but when it came time to leave, they dropped the key down the elevator shaft and had to wait an additional four (4) hours for the locksmith to re-key the truck. Once unpacking began at the destination, we discovered that boxes were missing of kitchen items and the three pieces of the bedframe was missing. I messaged them, but got no response. My advice: Stay FAR AWAY from this company. You could do better with a couple of college kids! No value in their service and they tried to pad the bill in every way they could!

Lyssa McEachern: The staff that came was wonderful and sweet and hard working. What wasn’t great was being surprised with a $150 heavy lifting fee midway through them doing the work. Essentially, I was quoted half the price I was actually charged before the work began and I wouldn’t have gone through with it at all has I known I would be paying nearly twice as much - $250 to $400. The staff were nice, the company was quick to book, and they were right on time otherwise. Sadly, probably won’t be using again as I don’t like surprise fees.

I was accurate in representing the locations we needed to move items from (a studio apartment, and a small storage unit nearby) and to (a small condo). The original quote was a fair price, however, I feel that I experienced misleading business practices. The day before our move, they called and explained we actually had to pay for an additional man to participate in our move, SIGNIFICANTLY increasing the price. Of course, we had no option but to say yes to this. If we would have received this info weeks in advance, we would have gone with a different company.

Kiara Palmer: I do not recommend at all! First, the team was supposed to arrive between 9-10am - they didn’t come until 11:15. No call, no update. I had to call the office to get an ETA. When I did get an update, Ilearned that they had a trucking issues, but no one called to say hey we’re running behind, but coming. When they finally arrived, Jermaine, the head/main mover was unprofessional, rude and disrespectful because they had a other move right after me and it looked like I had a lot of stuff. He point blank told me I was “getting over”. He not only spoke rudely to me but my mother who came to help. Come to find out the issue was steps and a long walk from the apartment to the truck. I felt that issue should’ve been taken up with the scheduler and not me. The only thing that saved this move was Mr. Tommy Willams. This was a hard move because of the steps, but he persevered and maintained a happy attitude. He even went out his way to help me with other things outside his requirements. LOVED HIM! Get a mover like him, but not this company.

Tiffany Payne: I moved to NYC from DC in January and the load up in DC was great. They were slightly delayed but that was understandable. They loaded the truck up quickly and arrived punctually the following morning in NYC. However, once they arrived one of the movers seemed out of it. He was extremely careless dropping my furniture repeatedly and breaking my desk. He refused to apologize and complained the entire move that he didn’t want to be doing this job. The other two movers apologized and did a great job. When I filed a damage claim they responded but have yet to provide me reimbursement. They confirmed my damage claim and the reimbursement amount on 2/1 however as of 3/7 I have not received payment yet. I assumed they are giving me the run around hoping I eventually give up and forget about the payment. Every time I respond they say to give it “2-3 business days” and then I do not hear back until I reach out again. This is extremely unprofessional and shady. I do not recommended using them.

Harrison Arcure: I hired Daamon and his team to help move furniture from a storage unit to a an apartment unit. My initial call with him was great and on move in day he showed up on time ready to go. Throughout the process he always remained very nice as well. Unfortunately the actual move was extremely disappointing. During my call I specially stated that I used a 16 foot Penske truck to get my furniture from my old apartment to my storage unit. This was to give him an idea of what would be needed to get the furniture from the storage unit to the apartment properly. On the day of move he showed up with a 10 foot truck (technically 12 foot with the mothers attic but he had his own stuff in that section anyway so it really can’t be counted no matter how you spin it). Ok fine, but if we do this I would assume there would be furniture blankets used to protect everything when being stacked up, since after all this is a professional moving company. Nope! Absolutely zero furniture mats, blankets, etc used. The end result ended up being my entertainment center, coffee table, lamp, and desk all had to be jammed into this small truck awkwardly, with no protection. Needless to say all sustained a good bit of damage. And it’s not even about money with these items, I’m just disheartened that a lot of my stuff is now all messed due to a total lack of care being taken on my items. If you have cheaper furniture that just basically needs to be hauled from one place to the other cheaply, then this place is perfect. But do not go with them if you need the stuff to be taken care of. It’s just unfortunate but lesson learned. End result, nice guys but are in no way an actual professional moving company. C Lowe: I must say out of the moves I have made this was the best this far. The team was quick, precise, had great attention to detail, and were so motivated to get me happily moved. The owner, sent text messages to keep me updated on the process and what to expect prior to and during the move which was very unexpected; and shows how passionate they are about providing a great service. The pricing stayed the same as I was quoted and the rate was great! This team will also assemble items in your new home at a future date if needed which is also amazing. Kevin Dolloson: Petro and his team arrived on time —mind you, our closing was pushed back twice and he was very flexible with adjustments. We anticipated a 6 to 8 hour move, but they had all the furniture and boxes in our new house in only 4 hours. Other than Anton dropping a couple of boxes, Petro and Joseph were on point. There were very minor scuffs on the walls, no worries though … because the builders already said they would come through and do touch ups. This was by far, the best moving experience I’ve ever had. Nothing was damaged during the move and the quote came in exactly as he estimated in terms of time even though we ended up with a lot more boxes than we had anticipated. They made a difficult experience easy! I highly recommend them to anyone.

The company helped me do it and it was done really fast – three days only. they arrived when they said they would at delivery. I paid less then expected at delivery. movers really took their time unloading and putting my things where they belonged. they did a great job!

Fernando Pombeiro: TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE FIVE STAR GOOGLE REVIEWS. These guys are so shady they have hired a company to boost their google rating. Check the BBB and other moving sites...they are AWFUL (criminals, really). STAY AWAY. My experience is as follows: Simple move- MD to LA- they DOUBLED the price once my stuff was loaded, movers were rude, and the owner basically TOLD me when they would deliver. They demanded extra money to unload, extra money to keep my stuff undamaged. I reported them to the Federal Highway service- which I encourage everyone to do. In the end the budgeted $5,000 move ended up costing $10,000. Stay away. Prosper is a criminal.

Sebastien Courret: The move was not bad in itself. Before the move they keep calling you over and over to make sue you are going to give them the deal. However once the move is completed and that personal properties are damaged then you cannot have anybody give you the status of your claim. They keep pushing back the dates of the resolution. Be very careful before you use this company, when they break something it is very hard to have them repair and or compensate you for the damages.

Ladybug Love: Caution!!, Caution!!, Caution!!...This moving company does not deserve to be in business...They are a BAIT AND SWITCH operation. BR Movers sales rep will quote you a price based on your inventory and on the day of your move you will have the exact same inventory but they want to increase your quote by 45% to 50% stating "The inventory was done over the phone and quote is an estimate"...Please beware. This is first review I ever wrote and the only reason is because of the HORRIBLE, MEAN SPIRITED, and UNETHICAL business practise of BR-Movers...I read the review but I give most people the benefit of the doubt and things happen, but Trust me stay away from this company...

Nic Anstett: We had a very frustrating experience with Shipsmart Inc. for our cross country move. Shipsmart claims on its website that it is a company that specializes in small moves so they appeared to be the right fit for our move. After filling out our initial estimates, we were told that with our listed pick up date of 8/26/21, we should expect to receive our goods around the date of 9/6/21. We were assured several times that our items could arrive by 9/6. We were concerned with the fact that the estimate for our goods was nonbinding given that we knew that it was more than likely that what was listed did not entirely match up with the estimate in terms of weight. We followed the companies guidelines for itemizing our packages but there was no clear information about how this would translate to weight, therefore there was no way for us to assure that our order would accurately reflect our full move. Despite multiple attempts to reach out by phone and email, our questions were either not answered or we were told that any changes to pricing would only be in the range of a few hundred dollars. We requested this information be included in our contract, in email, or otherwise in writing several times. Never once in the entire process were we given any sort of indication of how weight prices were calculated, despite many requests. Due to us moving into an urban area that requires that we reserve parking for moving vans/trucks in advance, we wanted to know as soon as possible a potential move in date. When we made the initial request for this service, we were assured that if our items were picked up by 8/29, they could be delivered by 9/6. During our first attempts to get an estimated delivery date, we were told that an accurate estimate wasn’t possible given that a delivery could take four to six weeks from pick up. I asked if it were to be possible to have a date of delivery closer to our original move in date of 9/6/21. I made it very clear that if this was not possible then we would be seeking another company to move with as we did not want to be living in an empty home for weeks on end. After conversations with Ship Smart and their chosen shipper, Coast Crate Company, we were assured that our items would be ready to ship out by early the week of 9/30/21 and that our items should be expected to arrive during the week of 9/6/21 and at the latest the week of 9/13/21. Given these reassurances, we opted to stick with Ship Smart Inc. instead of using an alternative company, which in hindsight was a huge mistake. Our items were picked up on 8/27. Despite us paying for the service of having our items packed and carried out from our apartment by Coast Crate Company, only a single employee was sent and I was forced to help the poor man carry many of our larger items out of the apartment. The employee was overall very friendly and once again assured us that he should have our stuff crated and ready to ship to us by early the following week. During the following week, I spoke with Coast Crate and he informed us that packing our items was taking longer than expected but that the items should still be ready to ship out by the end of the week. We were frustrated given the assurances that were given to us, even on the day of pickup, but there wasn’t much we could do. Finally, Ship Smart Inc called us and told us that our items were ready to ship and that we needed to pay before our belongings were sent to us. However, the price they asked us to pay was over $3,000 more than our initial estimate. When we asked to know why the price increase was so high, Ship Smart simply informed us that the shipment was heavier than expected but refused again to tell us how this weight was calculated. Looking back, it seems very likely that the majority of this increase in weight came from the heavy wooden crates that Coast Crate Company packed our belongings into and not from the items we were shipping. We had no control over the packaging of this move and should not be paying for the weight of the packaging.

Kristina Brown: I’m still conducting business with them and I’m grossly unsatisfied. I’m moving my things from TN to VA and it’s been a hassle the whole way. I did the delayed service because I wanted my things received 3 weeks after packing them up. They charged me hundreds of dollars extra for “extra weight” (no proof shown or calculation explained) and I still haven’t received my things. They claim they are a couple weeks behind schedule and I have to suffer from it by waiting 6+ weeks for my things. Next move I’ll bite the bullet for a company that delivers without deceit. I’ll leave another review when I finally get my stuff Edit: I completed my business with them and am updating my review. I received all of my things a week earlier than the previously mentioned date and nothing was missing. There were, however, multiple damaged boxes (plastic and carboard). After speaking with customer service, they were very accommodating in moving up my shipment, reducing my price due to inconvenience, and reimbursing me for the damaged boxes. With all this said, I recommend using Ship Smart because 1. They are cheaper than most other companies 2. They rebox everything for you 3. They don’t lose your items 4. None of my items within boxes were damaged

Cindy GUTIERREZ: I was over 3,000 miles away from home and very overwhelmed with how I was going to get my belongings to LA. Ship Smart made everything really easy. I packed the boxes and they took care of everything else. I reached out multiple times with questions and always received nice, friendly service. They made my move super easy, stress fee and really convenient, just what I needed. My stuff arrived in LA in perfect condition sooner than expected which is always a plus! I highly recommend them!

Jeffrey Rydant: Sorry, but they promised a lot and never got back to me with anything. Twice they promised a quote and pickup and never heard from them again. Maybe they’re overwhelmed with Covid. If so, pick someone else who has stepped up. I did, with good results. It’s sad and disappointing to leave a bad review for a company that on the surface seems good, but these folks failed me miserably and deserve the feedback.

Christina Vega: These folks are legit. My boyfriend called them 3 days before I needed to move after another larger company I had been working with for two weeks told me they were actually booked on the day we needed to move. So rude! These guys were available so we jumped on them without reading any reviews. On move day they showed up early and ready to work. They were super professional. Pointed out any existing nicks/bumps/scratches so there would be no confusion at the end. They wrapped anything that was breakable with their moving cloths. They even reassembled my bed once we got to the new spot! We not only tipped these guys but for their hard work we gave them some water and a plate of barbecue. They deserved it! Even though I hate moving I will definitely will use them again if need be.

Megan DeMutis: I was recommended Knoble Moving from a coworker/close friend, so I assumed it would be a pleasant experience using this company to move. But I was mistaken! First off, we were originally scheduled for 8 AM the day of the move. A few days before, we received a phone call stating the earliest we could schedule the move was 9 AM, which was fine. However, 9:00 rolled around on the day of the move, and the movers had not shown up. A few minutes after 9 we received a phone call stating the drivers were running behind, and then received a phone call from the drivers that they were on their way and would be there in 20 minutes. Once they arrived, the head guy walked into our one bedroom apartment and let out a big sigh at how much stuff we had. (One bedroom apartment being the key words there - how much stuff could we really have?! We already made one trip to the house with two cars full of things, and my husband’s truck was filled with another load that day). They began to move things, using three guys to do the work of one. One guy would carry boxes from the bedroom to the stairs, second guy would carry them down the stairs, and the third guy would pick them up and put them in the truck (this didn’t seem very efficient to me). My husband and I went out to our truck to carry a few small things out, and when we came back upstairs, our cat, who had been locked in the bathroom because ALL of the doors were open, was running around in the apartment! Turns out one of the movers needed to change from pants into shorts, and decided to let our cat roam free where she could have escaped. The day that we moved was a very hot day in the upper 80’s, and the movers did not bring ANY water with them!! Half way through the move, they asked us for water. Well.. all of our stuff was packed, so we had to go find two glasses that we could fill up for them. They also continued to complain about how “heavy” our things were, and that we were going to wear them out, when they still had to unload everything at the house. FINALLY after 4 hours, the apartment was packed up and we were ready to go. Except.. the moving truck wouldn’t start!! When the movers called their “boss” to let him know, all he told them was to “shake the battery”. Eventually the truck was started, and we headed to our new home, where thankfully my dad, brother, and father-in-law were waiting to help carry boxes, etc. off the truck. Can’t imagine how long the unload would have taken without them!

The move was quick, tidy, and professional. They were warm and took excellent care of our things, even great with my 2 1/2 year-old daughter. Natasha Kanerva: Absolutely appalling and horrific service. The movers broke multiple pieces of furniture and tried to hide it from us (see the photo of my dresser with the leg taped back on). Nearly every box contained broken items - many of which cannot be replaced or claimed under insurance. My bike was dropped twice when being unloaded from the truck, bottles were packed upside down and spilled destroying other items, art wasn’t wrapped and was packed in a suitcase and all of my plants were smushed and killed. And the movers were late. When I attempted to raise these issues with the company, they did not return any of my phone calls and were generally unresponsive and unhelpful by email. Do not hire Georgetown Moving and Storage!

Alison Voudrie: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I hired them to move my possessions out of my apartment in DC. They called me the morning of my scheduled move and said they needed to reschedule for the following day because one of their employees was sick. The following morning, they called me at about 10:30 (move was scheduled for 12-1 PM) and said they were not coming at all. When I asked for compensation, they told me to read my contract. My husband and I had to rush around and rent a UHaul and move most of our items ourselves. Unbelievably bad experience.

Phil Dower: My wife and I used Georgetown Moving and Storage Co to move our daughters belongings to her new apartment last year and they were very good. I had called a number of places and they were the only ones who could accommodate the date we needed. They arrived with plenty of men, who were all strong and careful with the furniture. The stuff got to the other end in perfect shape and it was all very reasonably priced. Great moving company.

When the movers came they sent 4 very pleasant gentleman who moved me in half the time quoted. I will definitely be using them again and have referred to them already.

Lindsay Perro: Almost everything was damaged when we received loading help for a move in June - EVERYTHING. All furniture items were cracked, scratched, have black marks - a couch cushion was shoved into a track and covered in grease. We provided covers for the couch and other items and nothing was used. Boxes with heavy weights were placed at the TOP of stacks of boxes - crushing everything underneath. I reached out afterwards my concerns and received ZERO response. I reached out via email to the same address / person who happily took my money so I know it was received. 0/10 would not ever recommend.

Elizabeth Ramming: Hunks are a joke. I called and booked an appointment for a Friday night from 6-8PM. Received both email and text confirmation of the appointment. No one showed up. When I called to find out why, I was told they stopped work at 5, and they could not give me a new appointment because their "system had been down all day." I called 1-800-Got-Junk and received an immediate appointment for Saturday morning and received 5 Star Service.

Lukas Sawyer: The guy that moved our stuff had us sign for our house hold goods via iPad. Then I got the inventory in my email later where he stated all of our items we “scratched, dirty, soiled”. I keep all my stuff new and good looking as I can. Definitely not how he said they were. I called him and he said he would change it, but never did. He put that our brand new $4000 table and chairs we scratched. All because he didn’t want to be blamed of something did happen. Do your job professionally and honest or find a different job. Don’t remember his name or I would put it on here. He was from El Salvador and in the Army. Look out for this crook

We had to change our appointment last minute and were able to update the time online without any hassle. The team kept us informed on when they would arrive, so we didn’t have to hang around and wait (extra bonus). Matthew Schnurr: Had a short move (apartments were about 5 minutes away from each other) and the gentlemen were very communicative about when they’d arrive. They called when they arrived and were professional, courteous and responsive to my and my wife’s wants. They were also very careful with some fragile furniture which we haven’t experienced with other movers. It was a great experience and we will be sure to be using College HUNKS in the future.

Keisha M. Carr: The booking process was easy. I initially was a bit nervous about the lack of prices on the website itself and the need for a call to get a quote, but it was extremely helpful in the end. On the day of my move, the team arrived at the stated time. They were extremely patient, given some extenuating circumstances on my end that caused the move to start late. The team was efficient, packing up my one bedroom apartment in about 90 minutes. They unloaded everything at the new location smoothly as well, even with the new location having stairs. And I appreciate the chit chat while waiting, it eased a lot of my moving say anxiety. My move ended up being 3.5 hours total, which included an hour for transportation to the new location. This was a bit lower than the estimate on the phone, which I (and my wallet) greatly appreciated. I absolutely would work with this company in the future.

Marybeth Clark: We had over 1/2 of our 4 bedroom house moved to a storage unit in preparation for a temporary move to an apartment. We had an estimate of 6 hours by the company but the team we were sent - Jose, Erick, Troy, Ahmad and Maxwell - did the work in 3-1/4 hours. They were not only fast but were very communicative and careful with all our belongings. We will definitely request this team again!

rioni boyd: This is my second time using college hunks, but today was just awesome ! Sean was most memorable and was awesome at delighting/directing for the job. His coworker was new to the company and Sean seemed to work well with him though he may have been taking on more weight than he was. We had a big job as we are a business but Sean had no complaints no matter how much we had to junk! Sean moved swiftly, with an upbeat attitude, sweating his butt off (and so was the other guy)! They understood the assignment. Grateful to have these guys as helpers today !
