TR Music & Voice Lessons: what do users think?

Greta Burrows: Both my kids really like their instructors. They are patient and knowledgeable. My son has been playing piano for over 6 years and my daughter started violin.
Response: Hi Greta, Thank you for the wonderful review! We have lots of great instructors in the Washington area but we are so glad to hear that your kids learned so much with their music lessons instructor. Keep us updated on their progress!

Karmen Armitage: My son has learned more piano in eight months of instruction then he did in eighteen months with his prior teacher. He incorporates all of the important aspects of a musical education in his lessons.

Yuriko Puryear: I would recommend her anytime for guitar lessons. My son has learned a lot considering he has only been taking lessons since the end of September.
Response: Great to hear from you. Always good to hear of more success with our music lessons instructor there in Washington. Thanks for wonderful review!

Sherryl Murr: If you need piano lessons, contact him. His price is very reasonable and he's just a great guy. I highly recommend him!
Response: Thanks for the feedback and review Sherryl! He is a phenomenal instructor and we are lucky to have him here in Washington.

Dorathy Conner: Not only is he damn good on the guitar, but he is a really good teacher. He knew right away what I am capable of and came up with a lesson plan that is awesome.
Response: Wow, good guitar instructor ever is a great compliment. I'll let her know that all is good at our Washington music lessons studio.

Gussie Levine: She is patient, makes it fun, and adheres to each individual student's needs.

Middle C Music: what do users think?

James Hurwitz: Without reservation, Middle C Music deserves the highest possible recommendation. They did a superb job of cleaning up and giving an overall tune-up to my antique guitar and repairing my antique mandolin. In the process, I saw how the staff at Middle C —Nick, Tom, Dave and Hillary — interacted not just with me but customers and students of all ages and abilities. What I appreciated most was their low key manner and the pleasure they took in enhancing the joy that others got from their instruments, music, and lessons. This is truly an excellent music store.
Response: Thanks so much for all your kind words, Jim! Always a pleasure working with you, and of course, you're welcome back anytime-- in fact, if you drop by on the 19th, we'll be having a 20th anniversary celebration with cake, prizes, and live performances. We're honored to be your local music store, and hope to continue serving you and maintaining your lovely instruments for years to come. -Tom F.

Gillian Edick: We popped into Middle C to have a guitar restrung and tuned. They did it quickly, but more importantly made it great fun for my aspiring but beginner guitarist. Tom was amazing - so helpful and took the time to show my son how to tune the guitar, hold it and get started. Really fantastic service. Thanks Tom and team!
Response: Thanks so much, Gillian. Helping musicians have fun getting started is one of my favorite things about working in our community. Come back anytime to show off his progress! -T

Paul Myers: I purchased a piano from these fine people, and I love it. It was very competitively priced. I have also purchased a guitar, and I have had these folks restring several guitars, and they do a great job —and again, the price is right. I love supporting small businesses, and Middle C Music is one of the best!
Response: Thanks so much! Very kind words. Glad you're enjoying the piano.

Phyllis Pierce: I had a small (thankfully) issue with the guitar I'm teaching myself to play. So I took it to Middle C in hopes they could fix it and it wouldn't be away from me too long. They fixed my issue on the spot and for free!! They are very friendly and that guy really knew his guitars. I think they have a long term customer here!!
Response: Thanks for stopping by Phyllis! We're looking forward to seeing you back at Middle C soon. If you have time this Saturday, why not drop by for our 20th Anniversary celebration? We'll have cake, prizes, and live performances happening all day long!

Christopher Tripoli: I fell in love with an instrument I found here called a "U-Bass," but I'm left-handed so couldn't use the one on display. Had them order a lefty model for me, and couldn't be happier with their service! Tom F was excellent to work with. A fun neighborhood store that I eagerly recommend!
Response: Thanks for the review, Chris! I'm really happy we were able to deliver. Come back and show off your U-Bass skills anytime! -TF

Fernando Nogueira: Super friendly and helpful staff. We were missing a very specific guitar screw and they helped us out in no time.

Ricky Webster: Amazingly friendly and helpful staff! Middle C is a great place to pick up your general music needs, but maybe isn't the best specifically for guitar equipment. They still have the basics for guitar, and will order anything you need! I have also used their guitar repair/tune-up service and everything was great. Thanks!
Response: Thank you, Ricky! We can't wait to have you back in the store.

Susanna Gregory: I LOVED it here! Stopped by for a new guitar and the staff was immediately willing to help and super friendly. The prices were great and I was really impressed with all the cool little things you could buy too! I didn’t get the names of the people who helped me but they were fantastic
Response: Thank you, Susanna! I'm glad we were able to help you find the right guitar, and we really appreciate your support. See you again! - Nick (and Tom and Dave) :)

Rebecca Brenner: I hadn't sought out new strings for my guitar since 2017. so every ~4yr when I get restrung, I only trust one music shop to touch my green guitar: Middle C Music. they do a fabulous job! I wouldn't recommend waiting 4yr for new strings -- or 10+yr for a new case -- but I highly recommend Middle C Music for all services!
Response: Thanks so much Rebecca! We'll see you in another four years!!

Michelle Long: I had the best time at Middle C Music! Everyone was super knowledgeable, supportive, and friendly. I came in looking for a 3/4 size acoustic guitar for traveling and had my pick of a beautiful selection. Big fan!! Will return!
Response: Wooo! Thanks Michelle, hope you enjoy the new guitar!

Music on the Hill: what do users think?

Maritza Cooper: What a lovely place to not only purchase an instrument but learn how to use it! We started with my granddaughter learning the violin and moved on to mommy taking guitar lessons. Very homey atmosphere and great with kids of all ages! When I finally have the time I want to learn how to play drums!

Donovan Dorrance: Aaron hooked me up with a great set-up for my telecaster. Helped fix some intonation issues. So very grateful for his expertise, efficiency, and kindness. Highly recommend coming here! They will treat you right!!!

Shawn Benson: Music on the Hill - The Hill’s own neighborhood music shop. Pretty cool. I’m a new client at Music on the Hill and I’m a very satisfied customer. My wife and I look forward to coming back, taking lessons, and recommending this neighborhood music shop to our musically-inclined or curious friends. Their prices are often just as good (and sometimes better) than their competition. The customer service/expertise is spot-on. And, you feel good knowing your money is going back to a small, local business. Frankly, it’s an investment in our community and that’s almost reason enough these days. Give them a shot. They don’t have everything, but they’ve got a lot and it was more than enough for us.

anne phelps: My whole family loves Music on the Hill! Lindy is a terrific resource on all things music related. We’ve had great experiences with lessons (clarinet and guitar) and when we wanted to upgrade to a wooden clarinet, Lindy & Luke found us a quality used instrument. If there’s something we need and they don’t have it, they’ve always been able to get it in short order. Music on the Hill is everything a local music store should be.

DAVID BAROI: On March 29th around 5 pm Me and my friend wanted to check this store out we are not from the dc area and we drove during rush hour traffic took us 40 min. But where we arrived I was keen on checking out the guitars and my buddy wanted to get a a quarter in jack. After we went in we an employee Middle Aged female was being rude as soon as we walked i; she made us feel very uncomfortable and eying us down the whole time. My friend even purchased a product and yet she was keen on getting us out the door and I was in the middle of considering purchasing the fender Stratocaster Mexico made but yet she was nudging for the door. After being in there not even for 10 min she came up and told us we had to leave. And so we abided by what she said and left. But will I go back again ? No how can i go into a music store and spend over a hundred dollar on anything without taking my time on inspecting that product.
Response: David- I'm very sorry that you felt rushed at Music on the Hill. Unfortunately, you did show up 15 minutes before our posted closing hours, and I (the middle aged women you talk about) had a family obligation that could not be put off. If you are still interested in the Fender, give us a call at the store, and we can set up an appointment to ensure that you get all the time you need.

Amaobi Otiji: I had an enjoyable experience buying a guitar here. Their shop setup is really aesthetically pleasing and their selections were all from very quality makers. The staff were very helpful in finding something that fit me by giving me a lot of options to work with. I also enjoyed them showing off the instruments with their musical skills.
Response: Amaobi- thank you for your kind words! I hope you are still enjoying your guitar!

Eric Schneider: Since this place added a guitar tech and luthier, I have taken in three guitars and received perfect setups and provided great service in general. So glad to have these folks in Capitol Hill instead of having to give a conglomerate like Guitar Center my business!

Kevin Wholihan: Had an amazing purchasing experience here and came away with a gorgeous acoustic. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, quickly found me the right size and a great fit. Very good COVID precautions. Will be back for my next major purchase.
Response: Thanks Kevin!

La Rana: I live in PA, but we were visiting DC while my daughter's school was having a 30-day music challenge of students practicing their instrument every day. Not wanting to lug a cello in our small car to and from DC, I called Music on the Hill and explained my unusual request. Luke was kind enough to set aside a cello for my daughter so she could practice for 10 minutes and get credit for playing that day. Not only that, but one of the employees helped her tune the cello. Thanks for your dedication to young musicians!
Response: Esther- thanks for your kind review! It was lovely to meet you and your family, and we are always exited to support musicians!

Allison Eriksen: Can't speak to their lessons or guitar supplies, which seem to be their mainstay. I was looking for piano music and selection was very limited so I didn't find anything I wanted. Woodwind and other marching band supplies are pretty non-existent. I play clarinet and they only had the softest reeds, a few books for learners, a cleaning kit and that was it. I know its a small space, but I would love to have a music supply store locally for all instruments.
Response: Allison- thanks for the review. The plan is to keep adding depth to all of our departments, including woodwinds. Until we are able to stock "everything"- I can special order in just about anything you might need.

Lessons In Your Home: what do users think?

Michael: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityThis made getting lessons for my 3 kids a snap. I even started taking guitar lessons with them. They found Josh who can teach the kids piano and guitar for myself. Kids are having a blast and I am enjoying picking up the guitar again. Josh is great. Patient with the kids and myself. He is a real pleasure.
Response: Michael, we are so glad your family is enjoying music lessons with Lessons In Your Home! We appreciate you letting us bring music into your home!

Christina Malekiani: We have had a wonderful experience with both of our children and LIYH. We have been clients since before covid and have been impressed with their rapid changes in protocols for covid that were simultaneously so smooth and made for easy transitions for the kids. After also taking a hiatus from one instrument for one child, LIYH was so helpful in transitioning that child back to another instrument and with a different coach that was an even better fit. Heather is extremely professional and proactive and an excellent communicator. She listens well to what each family and child needs and guides appropriately with her recommendations and seems to be spot on. Joseph has been absolutely amazing with our daughter on guitar—one of the most patient, kind teachers we have seen and knows how to keep her motivated and excited. She loves him and can’t wait for lessons each week with him! Nicole has been wonderful on piano with our son and knows how to challenge him appropriately while still keeping him encouraged. We have been extremely pleased with LIYH and will continue to work with them as long as our kids keep enjoying playing an instrument.
Response: Christina, we can't thank you enough for the kind words about Lessons In Your Home! Your feedback is important to us and lets us know we're on the right track! Thank you for letting us be a part of your musical experience!

Tammie Dzubak: My son is a beginner at violin. Joseph has successfully taught him via Zoom (due to the pandemic). Joseph is patient, encouraging, and motivating. He truly understands how to teach children. Most importantly Joseph has instilled confidence in him and he is eager to practice daily. We look forward to a time when Joseph and my son can practice together.
Response: Thank you for your kind words about Joseph, he loves working with your son!

Fallon McNeil: Steve Boone (Richmond VA) is so kind, patient, and fun with our two children (ages 10 and 7). Their excitement and love for music has only increased since starting lessons with him. Heather made the enrollment process effortless and answered all of our questions thoroughly. We have had a WONDERFUL experience with this company. Thank you!
Response: We're so glad you're enjoying the musical experience! Thanks so much for the kind words about Lessons In Your Home and Steve!

David B: We have been so pleased with our instructor, Sean, and by Lessons In Your Home in general. With so few opportunities for safe, in-person instruction over the past year of the pandemic, it's been really nice to provide our daughter with in-home lessons from a talented and supportive piano instructor. Thank you!
Response: David, Thank you so much for the wonderful review about Lessons In Your Home and Sean! He really enjoys lessons with your children each week!

Jonathan Moak: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueLiz has been such a patient and professional piano coach for our daughter. I have really enjoyed watching my 6 year old learn. Highly recommended.
Response: We are so happy to bring music into your home! Thank you for the nice words about Liz, we appreciate it!

Dudley's B Sharp Academy: what do users think?

VJ Kapur: Daryl has been teaching my child piano since she was 4 and has done a great job of keeping her attention throughout their 30-minute lessons. He indulges her stories/distractions just enough, while keeping her on task. He has many exercises for her level of comprehension/dexterity, and covers the instrument, basics of music theory and notation, and other topics in an engaging way. I highly recommend to folks, especially ones who think their 3- or 4-year-old isn't ready for lessons!

Normajean Freeland: Having enrolled in Dudley's B Sharp Academy and having Mr. Daryl Dudley as my teacher has been enlightening and refreshing. He shows that he wants you to succeed. I am so happy I enrolled in the Academy and look forward to my weekly sessions. I recommend the Academy whenever someone expresses an interest in playing a musical instrument.

Lisa Jamison: A great learning experience! Being a beginner piano student, the training I received from Mr. Dudley was great especially since I didn’t know my way around the piano. He is very patient and thorough. I definitely would recommend this studio for all your musical ambitions!

fatima khambaty: Mr Dudley is patient and meets you right where you are- even as an adult student . He was able to assess me right away and we jumped right back (after my break of 25 years) into piano Lessons. He understands even though I have no jazz background how to get me to start thinking differently from my classical training. Honestly- he makes learning fun, easy and less daunting ! Thank you !

Lamia Matta: My 5-year old daughter loved taking ukulele classes with Mr. Dudley. After only a few classes, she became very enthusiastic about playing music. The classes also gave her a lot of confidence. Mr. Dudley is super kind and has a very very nice manner. I highly highly recommend the school.

HARVEY Harris: He is an excellent teacher and my 8y/o son has learned so much in a short time. He gets right down to business, and he allows him to advance at his own pace. My son looks forward to piano lessons every week. I would recommend him to anyone; a true christian demeanor on top of it all.

Bruce Britton: Working with Coach Dudley has been an amazing experience, He is very encouraging and I like that he pushes you put of your comfort zone in order for you to grow as a vocalist. I have worked with him and seen improvement as a singer. I definitely would recommend taking up his classes to anyone!

Natasha: Mr Dudley is great! My kiddos (ages 5&3) love taking lessons with him. I especially appreciate his approach in teaching younger kids.

kara taylor: Amazing, amazing, amazing. One lesson and I saw my daughter shine! She is autistic with add and Darryl was so patient with her. I am a thankful and proud mom.

Maryland: I went to this academy for voice lessons to build up my vocal range + to learn breathing techniques. I also took key board lessons online to help pass the time during pandemic lock down. Bro Dudley is a natural for pulling out talents that you didn't know you had. He builds up your confidence. "Come on you can do it I have confidence in you". He is very patient and a professional musician of which he loves to share his musical talents. Dudley is a great guy and a man of faith. I would highly recommend Dudley B Sharp Academy. D Whte

Chevy Chase Arts Academy: what do users think?

Suz Brown: I have a 6 year old boy who has been taking piano lessons at CCAA for a year now. He loves his lessons and is already sight reading! His teacher, Miss Olivia, is positive, upbeat, and full of laughter. It is clear that Levon, the director, is very much connected in the music community and there are many talented teachers here. Best of all, the environment is warm, and we have been treated like family from day 1, even during the worst of the pandemic.
Response: Thanks so much, Suz! We really appreciate your support.

Jonathan Kula: Nearly my entire family takes lessons at Chevy Chase Arts Academy, and we could not be happier with our experience. Our youngest, 8, has been progressing and enjoying the piano for months now. Her instructor, Manuel De La Luz, is patient and inspiring, and gives perfect feedback. Our other daughter and I take guitar from Arnell Byrd, who is both effortlessly cool and also teaches theory in an accessible way. Levon Mikailean, the founder, has been extremely supportive in making our family musical. The website is easy to navigate, and the zoom lessons are very effective. Still much to learn, but we are playing together and enjoying the practice! No, really, we are! I cannot recommend these folks more highly. They are just the best.
Response: Thanks so much for the positive review, Jon! We love having you guys as a part of our CCAA family! 😊

Aram Stepanyan: My son has been learning piano for almost 5 years now. We used to change teachers a lot because of their availability and we are so glad to finally meet Mr. Levon last year. I have to say Mr. Levon is the best among our experience in the past few years. He is very patient with kids, knows the proper way to teach them. Just not sure what his magic is, but he's the only one get my son practice without complaining every night. Highly recommend Mr. Levon if anyone is interested in taking lessons in piano, guitar, vocal...
Response: Dear Aram, Thanks so much for your positive review!

Pavel Khrimian: This Academy is fantastic! Everything you want to see in art/music academy. Very talented teachers, very friendly, and convenient in terms of availability. Highly recommend piano lessons with Levon, as both my daughters are taking piano lessons with him. Any instrument you can think of they offer lessons, wide range of professional instructors, which is awesome to see in this area. Definitely recommend Chevy Chase Arts Academy Maryland.
Response: We appreciate your positive review, Pavel.

Margarita Saringulyan: My daughter really enjoys her piano classes and is excited not only to go to class but also practice at home. Music is a big part of her life now! We are thankful we found the Academy and highly recommend the piano teacher Levon!!!
Response: Thanks so much for your review, Margarita! Best, CCAA team.

Vaughn Martirosyan: Levon is phenomenal musician and a great teacher. I've never seen my kid being so excited about his art class. He takes individual approach to kids and make them feel like they are playing a game while he downloads his knowledge of music in to the children's minds. Im very pleased with his work and my sons progress!
Response: Thanks so much, Vaughn!

Tatevik Gevorgyan: We decided to join the Chevy Chase Art Academy as our last try before giving up – or at least pausing – on music. After we started our classes with Bienvenido, in only a month I saw how our child (8yo) changed completely. The teachers at the Academy are professionals, very gentle and thoughtful with kids and they make the learning process fun for them. They show individual approach to every student – key to every learning process. After only 5 months of classes, my son plays music all the time, whenever he has a free moment. I don’t need to ever remind him to practice – he enjoys it. I am so glad we gave this school a chance before giving up, because now we are looking forward to our music classes with delight and big hopes.
Response: Dear Tatevik, thanks so much for your kind words. CCAA

Ruth Trombka: As an adult I have attempted to play the piano three time in the past. Levon is the first teacher to make it feel like an achievable goal. His relaxing style, as well as his emphasis on enjoying the process of making music (while also teaching the necessary fundamentals), has helped me feel fearless and completely capable. I imagine he is equally easy-going yet effective with children. He is simply a kind and gentle person who seems to derive sincere pleasure from helping others learn, no matter their level.
Response: Thanks so much for your review, Ruth!

Lauren Theriot: Wonderful music school! Very qualified and dedicated instructors and a wonderful environment to learn!
Response: Thanks so much for your review, Lauren.

Tata M: My daughter loves these classes! I have recommended this school to our school friends as well! The teachers do such a great job of being relatable to the kids, making them want to keep going! Thank you, guys!
Response: Thanks so much, Tata!

International School of Music: what do users think?

Joma A Washirapunya: International School of Music is a great school for any type of music class. My daughter has been doing a virtual class for a year now. Despite it’s still being online, she still learns a lot. Her piano teacher (Junie K.) is very knowledgeable and helps her with the fundamentals and makes sure she understands everything about playing the piano. The staff is helpful and quick to respond to all my questions. I am happy that we enrolled her at ISM.

Chong Zhang: We had a very good experience with ISM for my daughter’s violin class. Her teacher Kimia is amazing!

Linda Shiner: Young is an accomplished guitarist who is very patient and helpful with beginners. He shows you precisely how to move your fingers to get the best benefit from practice.

Erika Jorgensen: Great teachers, convenient location. We have enjoyed lessons for two kids plus me for years now. All the teachers are excellent and inspiring. Very well organized school.

Aycan Oguz: We really love our piano teacher Minji. She has a great communication with kids and gently build the foundation of music knowledge brick by brick. I strongly recommend her!

Juanita Ramkissoon: (From my 10 year old son) My instructor, Charlotte, is fun, creative, and really knows her stuff! I look forward to going to my singing classes and practicing my vocals while I play my guitar.

Claire Heffez: Great teachers, friendly staff, flexible and organized. I highly recommend, even for young children!

Carmen Bellacasa: My daughter loves meeting with her instructor weekly. I highly recommend.

Ryan John Estorninos: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueThe International School of Music has been the perfect place for my daughter to harness her natural talent. Her teacher is skilled in helping her learn fundamentals and refine her talent. We are glad to have International School of Music as our school.

Georgia Farkash: We couldn’t be happier with our experience at the International School of Music. The front desk admins are knowledgeable, professional and always happy to assist the students and their families. My daughter’s teacher is outstanding. She has been a source of inspiration and a resource for my daughter and our family!

Washington Conservatory of Music: what do users think?

Diana Rumrill: Wonderful place to take lessons, attend high quality concerts, and find a supportive community of other adult music students!

Jolie Blanchard Brown: I'm an adult piano student at Washington Conservatory of Music where I receive superior instruction from Ms. Dionne Laufman. She makes learning fun! During the COVID-19 pandemic the lessons are being taught virtually. We haven't missed a beat! I like studying at WCM where I feel part of the music community. In addition to providing individual and class instruction on a variety of instruments (and voice), WCM offers public concerts, student recitals, and master classes. WCM is a great place to study music.

Carol Henry: I started at WCM in 2016 as an adult piano student with Dionne Laufman. I had played the piano for several years as a child in Trinidad (my home country), but I had stopped as an adult. After several decades, I decided to resume piano and found WCM where I enrolled. It has been a very enlightening AND fun learning experience, and I am sorely disappointed that the pandemic has interrupted my personal lessons with a great piano teacher whom I love! The whole point of taking lessons on any instrument is to improve one's playing and technique in order to draw the most beautiful sound out of the instrument. I learned the basics as a child, but at WCM I entered a whole new world of learning with Ms Laufman. She was able to zero in on my faults and show me exactly what to do to correct them (the hallmark of a good teacher!). She taught me about color, and nuance, and touch, and posture, and technique, and so many other things that can transform music from plain and boring to beautiful and enchanting. After 4 years with Dionne, I can actually hear the tremendous improvement in my piano-playing and I am delighted with my progress! It is worth every penny I have spent. Others who have heard me play over the years have also remarked on it. I know that this is testament to the commitment and competence of my dear piano teacher at WCM. And from what I have seen, ALL the teachers at WCM are of this caliber! I would recommend WCM highly to anyone who is thinking about taking lessons on any instrument. In addition to the wide exposure and performance opportunities it provides in this culture-rich metropolitan area, the school is well-organized, well-run, and full of highly competent teachers who obviously love what they do!

International School of Music: what do users think?

Maria Abreu-Blanco: We have attended for a couple of years, on the early childhood program. My son participated in the group classes, he loved his teacher and it was a great experience overall. Now we hove move to private lessons, piano, the instructor is great and my kid enjoys the lessons.

Audrey Shi: ISM is great! It's well-organized, and I really enjoyed my voice lessons with Dara, who was lovely and knowledgeable. I'll be back once I have more time and means for lessons. The location is very convenient, and I had a terrific experience!

Brad Dengler: Great Place to teach kids music. Accommodating scheduling and very patient teachers that get my children excited about learning music and looking forward to their next lesson.

soomin lee: Staffs are great!! My kids love their flute teacher.

Allyson Leung: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityMy daughter has been taking violin lessons for 9 months. We are very pleased with her progress. Miss Dana is very patient with my 6 years old daughter and very knowledgeable as well.

Vishal Sinha: Our kids go to International School of Music for their weekly music sessions. They are just starting out on their musical journey and this can be a challenge for both the kids, and the teachers. We really appreciate the patience of the instructor - she is really doing a good job introducing our kids to music and is patient with them. The front desk staff is very friendly too and helps us quite a bit to set the weekly schedule. The new location is perfect for us and the facilities are really nice!

Elizabeth Clifton: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueISM has great, timely communication, especially during these days of requiring on-the-spot technical coordination and they have been excellent about providing extra time when technical struggles prevent on-time starts. About two months in and very happy with the lessons my child is receiving.

Raquel B. Saltsman: We love ISM and our ukulele teacher!

Manoela Borges: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueWe love ISM. Our eight-year old has taken violin lessons for almost two years and has progressed beautifully. The instructor is supportive and engaging, and the ISM staff are helpful and friendly. We enjoy the flexibility of ISM along with the instructor and staff’s professional approach to teaching.

Kelly McCarthy: Just took our first piano lesson with Becky and are so excited to be working with her! Professional staff and great atmosphere for learning.

Levine Music - DC Campus: NW: what do users think?

Corey Newman: My 8 year old son first did one of the 3 week summer camps, and is now enrolled in group piano. His playing abilities have really progressed rapidly, and he enjoys playing. He even tolerates practicing at home most days. I'd certainly recommend Levine for both summer camp and also weekly lessons during the school year. If the weather is nice, there's a small outdoor play area for siblings.

Rojeana: I've been at Levine for four years now. My violin has improved so much because of it, it's been an amazing experience so far.

Han Chen: Administration is a mess. I was ignored by different people. I don’t know this place, but at my job, I was expected to reply and respond when asked a work-related question.

Gilles Alfandari: Music teachers at the top of their art, for all ages and levels.

Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center: what do users think?

Carlton Jones: Chuck Levins Washington Music Center, has been the most anticipated retail store visit since I was 13 years old. Every local musician I know in DC has spent time and money at Chuck’s. I recently made a purchase and it went as all my transactions made there since approx 1970. This time it was online but a very personal affair, Adam Levin was helpful and more accommodating that an old guy could ask for. It was still like xmas awaiting my package that came overnight and with a wonderful gift. I can honestly say it was the most emotional purchase I’ve made in decades, not the most expensive, not a life changing acquisition just a memory evoking moment that included family members and friends passed on that I think of frequently whom I spent many hours playing music with and having the best times of my life. Me, my family, friends and Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center…. Thanks again Adam, if this is my last purchase please know they have all been the best!

Crystallize And Realize: This place goes above and beyond I'm all categories. Total knowledge, stock, and personal care. You will find your salesman, and he will be yours for decades. Paul in drums is incredible. Also Edwin in Keys, and Mitch up front. Top notch. I feel good arriving, better leaving. Best store in the world. I suggest cutting your credit cards before entering---can be dangerous.

Rachel Ellis: Bought my fiancé a guitar here a year ago. Sales person was friendly and helpful. Good covid protocol for the time. Sales people weren’t pushy and were well informed on guitars. Bought the Taylor GS Mini and it’s been a great guitar. Would definitely check them out if you’re in the market for an instrument. Only downside was slightly outdated equipment/billing systems, but nothing a little patience doesn’t fix.

Richard Capeless: My experience was through an online order and I am here to testify to their exceptional customer service. I had a small problem with a piece of gear I was really excited to get, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate me. General manager Adam Levin reach out to me and oversaw my exchange. That kind of personal touch made it clear that they care about their customers.

Melissa Ratisher: I had tried many different retailers looking for an XDJ RX3, but nobody had them in stock, and people were selling them on EBay for $1k over the retail price. I saw one at Chuck Levin's that was 'open box' so called the store about it, then spoke to Randy who told me they had a brand-new one, unopened, in the store, at the standard retail price. I ordered it immediately (free shipping!), got it in 2 days, still sealed in the box, perfect condition, and it's fantastic! Highly recommend ordering gear from Chuck Levin's. Thank you Randy!

Bryce Wagner: I worked personally with Pete Fleming to order my new bass amp. I saw a post on Reverb for an amp I had been looking for and Pete was very helpful. I’d also like to mention that he made me feel safe making such an expensive purchase over the phone for it to be shipped to my home town. Pete even went back to the warehouse to grab the amp because we both couldn’t believe they actually had one in stock. As soon as I paid, it was removed from reverb and he’s sent me receipts very swiftly to assure it was mine! I would highly recommend this store. If I had one complaint, it’s that it isn’t in my hometown. Haha
Response: So glad we could make this happen Bryce!! Going out the door today. Rock on 🤘🤘

Gary Rosen: Ordered on-line and called when I got there. Brought my purchase right to my car. Shop local! Spent a bunch of time there today with Pete who was super helpful in helping me decide what guitar to consider
Response: Thanks for using our curbside service, Gary! We appreciate you shopping with us.

dylanvs: I ordered a yamaha dtx8k mesh electric kit online. This kit was impossible to find anywhere else backordered on every other music site i went to so i was already happy i found it here. They got it to me quick using a freight company called distribution by air, i think it took just about a week which is good considering it was an entire pallet of boxes. The customer service from both the freight company and chuck levins was great, both companies reached out concerning my delivery making sure i could be there to sign and to let them know id got my shipment. Also the shop pay option for 4 installments is a huge plus! Couldnt ask for more

brian henson: Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center has always been the best music store in this region. Guitar players, including the top players in the world, come here for equipment, repairs, and advice. Best selection and fair prices, but most of all, the most knowledgeable sales people. They know the products, ask you the right questions, and help you find the best solutions for you.
Response: Thanks for the nice review, Brian. The customer ALWAYS comes first at Chuck's!

Mitzo: The staff are amazing, a huge variety of musical equipment, and I managed to get rototoms at over a 90% discount! If you’re in the area I 100% recommend stopping here

Foxes Music Co.: what do users think?

Freddie Dunn: First rate old-school music store. Foxes has all of your music and music education needs, equipment, accessories, method books, and scores. I'm glad a store like this exists nearby. They have a tremendous inventory of folios, scores, books and sheet music for anyone from beginner to seasoned pro. They rent instruments at reasonable rates. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Stores like this are a treasure!

Vassilios Vassiliadis-Laouto Lobby: Fantastic local music store. Customer service is awesome and the manager Dave Belazis always goes above and beyond to help you get the best deal. They also offer musical classes and sell any type of musical instrument, accessories and equipment. I rather support this nice store than other online or other real music shops.

Dale Dean: Extremely professional service allowed me to find the right edition of sheet music that I wanted. And we conferred back and forth by text messages before I even entered the store to pick up the edition. Outstanding and responsive treatment.

Heather Paul: Went looking for a guitar for my bf's birthday; I know nothing about music or guitar shopping, but they helped me pick one out, talked me through pros and cons of each, played samples for me to hear the sound, even tossed in a free pack of strings! And my bf loved the guitar <3 Highly highly HIGHLY recommend

T King: Very cool old school music shop, lotta different instruments, sheet music etc. Not sure how competitive prices on guitar amps are. Fun to browse. Looks like the do lessons and repairs, too.

Eric Henri: Great for lessons, service and equipment. They can order what they don't have in stock. Also love to look at the music books!

Billy Billy: Why you got to be so weird with your comments every time I come in the store with my children. I get that your band geeks or something, but don’t be so creepy and learn how to interact with humans. @Bernard and others need to stop with weird offhand remarks to customers and children in the store. No one needs it and we will take personal insult next time.

Spot Wms: Foxes Music Co has one of the largest selection of music books for all instruments and ALL learning levels. Nice novelty items (socks, tote bags, mouse pads and etc). Music books are competitively priced. Foxes Music Co offers other services as well (lessons, instruments rental/sales). I'm a beginning adult piano player (learned to read music in high school band class). The Essential Elements Piano Theory seems to be the perfect purchase for my current knowledge and playing ability. A family member is learning music also, so I'll be able to pass the music books along! I purchased a lot of music books because I'm trying to discover what works best for my independent learning (supllemented w/ YOUTUBE videos).

aria moshrefi: Came in just to exchange the rental violin for my son. Brian A was so helpful. He showed us the problem was was not the size of the violin but the locations of the tape was not correct. Excellent free assistance by such a nice employee Thank you you so much !

Christine Hill: I went to Foxes music just to come see and admire the store cause of all the instruments. It was my first time going there and usually i’m a anxious mess kind of a person. I was immediately greated by good ol Dave! (Welcoming and friendly) He showed me some books, amps, intruments, etc. demoed some pedals. Not once was there a pressure to buy or anything which was super nice! No sales pitch and I thoroughly appreciated that. I saw this mustang and he showed it to me and all was history! I walked out with a slammin deal and stand in top of that! Thanks so much Dave! Will definitely be coming back!
Response: Thanks for the review! We value your opinion and look forward to working with you again. See you soon!

Action Music Ltd: what do users think?

TJ Sanner: I love guitars. I love visiting awesome shops that have amazing inventory and amazing staff that are excited to be in that environment. Action did not disappoint today. Hands down the best inventory of Huss & Dalton, Collings, and vintage Martin. They even spur of the moment fit me in and made a quick truss rod adjustment while I waited. Totally unbelievable. I am a small business owner myself and only hope these guys know how awesome they are! Thanks for an amazing visit, truly a 6star experience! We traveled from Annapolis just to see their shop and will be back 100%.
Response: Thank You TJ It was really nice to meet You! Thank You for Your kind review. Matt

Everett DeLuca: This is an incredibly wonderful place. Incredibly reasonable pricing on repairs, done with impeccable quality. The gentlemen who run the shop are a riot and you'll leave with an excellent lesson in guitar maintenance. Also a wild collection of vintage amps and pedals. This is heaven for any guitarist.
Response: Thank You for the kind review Everett!

Matt Lyttle: The greatest guitar shop around, no question. Incredible selection of new and vintage instruments. All sorts of pedals and gear. Extremely knowledgeable staff. And they are as welcoming as can be. Just be respectful of their stuff and they will treat you like family - no matter how deep (or empty) your pockets are!
Response: Thank You Matt!

Elisa: Great store! The staff are so friendly, kind, and willing to share advice. I always have a pleasant experience taking my guitars in for work or browsing for new gear.
Response: Thank You for the kind words Elisa!

Matthew Morgan: This place is the best guitar shop in the DMV and it’s not even close. The guys know their stuff and they care about what they do. I came in with a California strat a few months ago and the owner took time to walk me through the history of the guitar, the value, and helped me weigh pros and cons of investing in some repairs. They’ve set up 4 of my guitars and have done A+ work on each one. Love these guys!
Response: Wow Thank You Matthew-we appreciate Your kind review.

Cameron Quinn: Music shops like this are a dying bread and thankfully we still have killer shops like Action. Super knowledgeable about all things music and guitars. Best and most eclectic selection of vintage guitars in the area. Thanks Action!
Response: Thank You Cameron!

Harrison Z: I found a guitar on their website listed as in stock, called to buy it and they explained their website is out of date by about 5 years. Ok. They mentioned they have a Mustang Bass for sale though so I was interested. Rob told me he had to check with his boss on how to do the sale but the best way would be to mail a check. I accepted the terms and asked to please place a hold tag. They said they could put the tag on for me. I called them the next day to ask for the pictures they promised me, they were “slammed; call back later no time to put a hold tag on”. I called back later. “The shop is closing now but we can make a reverb listing for you tomorrow and you’ll just buy it first as it goes up.” I told them, Saturday on reverb, it’s very possible someone will buy it in those seconds before me. They said it’s never happened and won’t be a problem. I call back the next day to remind them of the deal, they said call a little later. I did. They say 3,2,1 the listing is up, Reverb wanted my CVV code (which doesn’t usually happen) which I scrambled to get, then someone else bought the bass in those seconds. Apparently the other buyer is a returning customer so they sold the bass to him. After all the calls I made and the changing of terms I accepted, they simply sold it out from under me. This is the number one worst experience I’ve had buying a guitar. They cant accept a credit card over the phone? The reverb listing wouldn’t have even been created if it weren’t for me and they sell it to this other guy who is apparently on the way to pick it up 30 seconds after purchasing? Come on. Who do you think would have been inconvenienced more; him or me? After all the phone calls I made and patience I had after reminding them several times about the sale, obviously me!! they didn’t seem to mind at all selling it out from under me. Almost proud of their decision. A simple explanation to the other buyer and I’m sure everyone would understand that the bass should have been sold to me. And a bonus complaint, I asked them at the end of the call if they have anymore vintage fenders in stock and they told me I was already told what they have in stock the day before. As if somehow I was inconveniencing them! Absolutely unbelievable and extremely unprofessional. “We’ve been doing the same thing for 25 years buddy “. Is what I heard many times. What??? Reverbs been around for about 6 years. And you’d think they’d know how to honor a deal after all their years as a shop! Extremely disappointed and so much of my time and energy wasted for nothing.
Response: The item was listed on Reverb specifically for You and we notified You and were on the phone with You as we went live with the listing so You could grab it. We specifically asked You, if You were ready to proceed, after you said Yes we listed, But then You continued to haggle and were told that the item was in two other peoples carts. Then someone bought it out from under you. I'm sorry but we tried very hard to work with You, and patiently explained our policies multiple times. We tried, sometimes things just don't work out. Thank You Matt

Christopher Frakes: Great selection of instruments, equipment, and accessories. Matt and co. are knowledgeable, kind, and a delight to chat with. Hands down the best music store in the area!
Response: Thank You Chris!

muscle man: action music is a really good store. the people that work there are all super nice and welcoming. i gotta come back here one day. also the location is very nice considering its right next to a record store and a recording studio
Response: Thank You!

Shawn Hatfield: Always a good time. Thank you guys for the Orange cab this time. I usually get vintage fuzz pedals here. Great selection of instruments, amps, fx, and other music goodies!

Guitar Lessons with Tempee Warmack: what do users think?

joe hernando: I have been taking lessons with Tempee for a while. He’s really easy to work with. His knowledge of music theory and all things guitar has been extremely helpful in adopting new techniques and styles. He’s patient and encouraging in helping me attain my goals at improving my guitar work. Whether you are an absolute beginner or just want to improve your skills, I would recommend studying with him.

Lysbet Evans: I have had the pleasure of studying guitar with Tempee for 4 years. He taught me music theory as it relates to the guitar as well as the techniques to master , in my case, modern blues guitar. If I was starting out I would highly recommend him because he will start you using the proper techniques to play and practice. Furthermore, If you are more seasoned in your musical journey, I would work with him as you will find he works well with advanced students. As for me, I have improved immensely and you can too!

Steve Sharkey: Tempee is a fantastic teacher. He's able to teach at any level, from the very basics to advanced. He combines music theory and with teaching actual songs in a way that is interesting and leads to a deeper understanding of how to construct a song, play lead guitar and improvise. I knew the guitar basics when I started with Tempee, but he broadened my view into completely new areas of music and theory in a very efficient and meaningful way that cuts years off of learning trying to struggle with books. He is also very flexible at working with your schedule, including doing lessons via video when I just couldn't carve out the time to get to his house. He's a great teacher and I highly recommend him.

Emily G.: In the two years since I sat down for my first lesson, Tempee Warmack has broaded my knowledge of the guitar to an advanced level. When I first met Tempee, I barely knew anything about the guitar. However, his technique of teaching made things easy to understand and remember. His kind nature and patience allows for him to easily work with kids and adults. Tempee is also willing to flexible to your schedule. He lets you decide what you want to learn, wether it be soloing, chord progressions, or music theory. Plus, you can always look forward to the next lesson, as Tempee makes them fun and interesting. I am extremely glad that I had the chance to have Tempee as my instructor, and I would highly recommend him to players of all experience.

Shawn Davis: Tempee has an amazing command of music theory and he is gifted at helping his students apply that theory to the Guitar. He is also happy just to teach you a new song. Tempee is an excellent instructor and very willing to tailor his lessons to suit your desires. I highly recommend Tempee for guitarists of all ages and levels.

Jenn Marie Lewis: Our family has had great experiences with Tempee. My younger sister took bass lessons from him while she lived in the area and thoroughly enjoyed them. My son is currently taking guitar lessons and is really growing as a guitarist. One of my favorite parts about my son's lessons is the music theory that Tempee seamlessly incorporates into the lessons. Tempee's enthusiasm and patience also go a long way in making my son look forward to his weekly lesson and actually practice in the meantime.

John M.: Tempee is a fantastic teacher and musician, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to begin or advance their knowledge about music. I knew nothing about the guitar when I walked through his door, and three years later I can play better than many of my friends who have played since youth. More importantly than my playing, Tempee has fostered for me a life-long love for the instrument and confidence in myself. Personalized lessons are the quickest and most effective way to learn an instrument, and there isn’t anyone better than Tempee. He has broken the mold of traditional guitar instruction and developed his own methods for incrementally increasing a student’s knowledge and playing ability. He completely caters his lessons to his student’s individual interests. From day one I have told him what I was burning to play and that is exactly what he has taught me, while slowly giving me the knowledge of music theory that I need to be a confident and competent musician. It’s always so much easier to learn when you love what you are playing. Nobody will tell you that learning an instrument is simple, but it is amazing how quickly and efficiently you can learn with an amazing teacher. After three years of lessons I have never found the limit of his patience, and he has always helped me through the times when I felt as if I had met mine. I still have a lot that I wish to learn, and you won’t find me learning it from anybody but Tempee.

Charles Duvall: An excellent music instructor, Tempee can not only teach music theory and guitar technique, he will have you so interested in your instrument and the song you are working on that you cannot wait to practice. Both my son and I have taken lessons from Tempee and the improvement has been amazing.
Response: Thanks!

Kenneth J. Russell: Tempee is an outstanding teacher. His students range from very young (10 or younger) to fairly mature (I’m almost 60!). What I’ve noticed over the past few years is Tempee’s ability to relate to each student no matter their age. This ability is crucial to successful teaching and he has it! I came to Tempee knowing little to nothing about music or the guitar. I’m no doubt much smarter about music and I can actually play the bass guitar a bit and it sounds pretty good. It’s an amazing feeling to actually play along with a song. I appreciate everything Tempee has done for me and I highly recommend him to anyone, no matter the age or skill level, wanting to learn how to play the guitar.

Jonathan McKnight -DNR-: Look no further. Tempee is a great guitar player. But he's also a terrific teacher, which is what is important when you want to learn to play the guitar. He's patient, interested, and totally focused on helping me to progress as a player. He's also got a few of those traits so rare among musicians, like dependability and organization. Regardless of your skill level, I would recommend Tempee Warmack without reservation.

School of Rock: what do users think?

Laura Spriggs Gray: We started drum lessons for my daughter two months ago and she is loving it. She even enjoys practicing which is very different from previous music lessons. The instructors make it fun to learn and the staff are pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend giving them a try if your children are interested in music.

Haleema A: Had my trial lesson with Max! He's casual but professional and I felt safe/comfortable during the lesson. All other staff I met were great as well.

Cary And Ian Phillips: We love the atmosphere and experience that Haymarket School of Rock provides. We have nothing but great things to say about the past 3 years. We look forward to many more!

Michael Hogan: Checked the place out and it looked interesting so I signed up my son for a drum lesson tryout. Went well, the instructor even said he was talented. I wanted to sign up for the program. Got a phone call the next day and was basically told “we have enough drummers” so thanks but no thanks. It would have been nice to know that they had plenty of drummers before we spent the time getting my son evaluated and worse, getting his hopes up. Not cool.
Response: Hello Michael, We apologize about the inconvenience with regard to our performance classes being full, it was never our intention to mislead you! We hope you understand that we’ve had to greatly downsize our class sizes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To follow our states regulations, we are unable to hold the standard amount of students we’d normally like too. Of course your son is always welcome to join for individual lessons and as soon as there an opening we would get him in! Thank you for your input and critique!

Andrea Hiltner: My kids have been coming to School of Rock since they opened in Haymarket and have loved every moment. The staff is wonderful and my children went from never having picked up an instrument to playing in the Rock 101 band in just a few months. If your child has any interest in music The School of Rock in Haymarket is the place to be.
Response: Thank you for the review! We are lucky to have you children as a part of the school!

LMS D: Awesome program. Their instructors are top-notch and the group lessons help the kids make an amazing amount of progress in such a short period of time because of the program. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for an awesome program for kids who want to learn an instrument :)
Response: Thanks for the review Lisa, it is a pleasure to have your kids at the school! They ROCK!

Jason Dunick: Positive: Quality
