City Cruises Washington DC: what do users think?

Heather Walker: Beautiful cruise, going back and forth the Potomac in front of some of the iconic monuments in DC... it was neat to see them lit up at night from the water. We took the dinner cruise. The food was good. The alchol was an extra charge and was pretty expensive. The service wasn't the best and the staff seemed overwhelmed or perhaps shorthanded for the amount of passengers on the boat. But everyone was friendly and I believe just trying their best. The best spot was on the deck. Once the dancing started and the DJ was playing it was WAY too loud inside. Overall it was a nice experience.
Response: Thanks for the positive review, Heather! Hope to have you aboard again soon.

Dee P: I took a brunch cruise to celebrate my birthday. It was expensive in my opinion but the food, service, and music was on point! Nice variety of delicious foods with endless mimosas. I also like how they didnt let guests bum rush the buffet. We had to wear masks at the buffet and was called up by table until everyone was served. I would certainly recommend this cruise. My only complaint was they should recommend you arrive 45 mins earlier and not 30 min earlier on the weekend. I don't know how it is midweek, but our cruise was on a Sunday and the pier was extremely crowded since there was another cruise leaving around the same time. Our boat was starting to board but we had no idea since we were caught up in one big line. Also, the cruise was too short only 2 hours.
Response: Hi Dee, thanks for the positive review, come back and visit anytime!

Liesl Smaistrla: I was surprised how many reviews didn’t like the food. The food was very good. Everyone was super nice and attentive. I enjoyed the scenery on the brunch cruise. It was definitely more of a party boat than I expected.
Response: Hi Liesl, thanks for the positive review, come back and visit anytime!

Kev- keepingitreal: City Cruises Washington DC offers Entertainment cruises year round at The Wharf in Southwest Washington DC. Paid Meter Street Parking are limited at this location, it’s best to park at the nearby parking garages.
Response: Thanks for the positive review, Kev-! Hope to have you aboard again soon.

Rita Shukla: It was amazing and scenic❤.Staff was courteous. But I think they should add some more vegetarian options in buffet 🤤
Response: Hi Rita, thank you for leaving us with a positive rating- we love seeing this kind of feedback. Sail with us again soon!

Oindrila De: Amazing experience! Staff was extremely warm & cooperative. Food was great even though there were limited options.
Response: Hi Oindrila, thanks for the positive review, come back and visit anytime!

Brigette Garcia: The worst $508.46 meal we have ever had. I purchased 2 adult tickets and one child ticket for the Father's Day Dinner Cruise on 06/19/22. I hate that I purchased this terrible experience for my husband. We were literally the LAST table called to get in the buffet line. While we were standing in line, people were already coming up for seconds or eating dessert. That is how long the process took. By the time we got up to the food, the trays were empty or contained scraps. There were supposed to be 3 salad choices, but only 1 was still available. It may have been the Green Goddess pasta?? Not sure, but I believe it was intended to be served hot, but instead was at room temp with hardened cheese on top. There were supposed to be 5 Main courses available, instead, there were only chicken and short ribs. The chicken was dry and overcooked, and the short ribs were bland and not tender. There was supposed to be roasted broccoli and mashed potatoes available as sides, but the mashed potatoes were wiped out by the time we were making our plates. Short ribs in a sauce with NO mashed potatoes?? I tried to keep a positive mindset and told my husband it looks like they were coming out to refresh the food, so we could take what we had to the table for now and then go back in a bit to give them a little time. My husband finished the scraps he had on his plate and returned after about 10 minutes only to discover the entrée buffet area was now closed. I was furious with that news. I went downstairs to another buffet area and saw they had plenty of mashed potatoes and short ribs (but nothing else besides, desserts) and made a plate for us to share to just get some kind of sustenance from our $500 meal! There are a few other things I'd like to make comment on, but the food issue is by far my biggest complaint, so I will keep it focused on that. It was a dinner cruise, so I had hoped that there was a focus on dinner. They would be better off just serving hot dogs and nachos and cutting the prices in half. At least then the expectations would be on par. I am just devastated that I ruined my husband's Father's Day with such a terrible experience.

Joe Pennell: The DJ was wonderful. He helped a fat white guy with no rhythm do the electric slide with his wife. It was worth every dollar of the cost and more. The buffet was never ending and I do not remember a better buffet in my 56 years.
Response: Hi Joe, thanks for the positive review, come back and visit anytime!

taylor :D (insert nickname): the cruise was very fun! all the staff were very friendly and one even gave me a free refill on my strawberry lemonade when I was disappointed that they didn't offer refills. if it's your birthday or aniversarry you get a shout out from the dj. the food in the buffet was exceptionally delicious. only thing I was slightly disappointed about was that more people didn't go out on the dance floor, but I guess that's understandable because people don't wanna be stared at.
Response: Thank you taylor! We hope to welcome you back for another great experience.

Anna Crutchfield: I've gone on the brunch cruise and new years eve cruise. Definitely enjoyed the new years cruise on the Potomac much more, but both were fun. Our server Teresa was so friendly and would anticipate our needs. We also got to enjoy the new years eve fireworks after a delicious meal, then we danced the night away. I will definitely be back next year!
Response: Hello Anna -Thanks so much for the kind words! We’re really happy to hear you enjoyed your experience, and hope to see you back soon. Cheers.

Capitol River Cruises: what do users think?

keisha g: This was an awesome experience for all ages. Multiple seating options and even an indoor option with AC and a little snack station and bathroom. Nice way to charter to Alexandra and the wharf if you want to avoid paying for multiple parking at different locations from the harbor and it gives you extra ways to explore the area. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable. We even bumped into the captain he was very funny.

Jeff H: Chartered a vessel for 3 hours for our activity the day after our wedding for our guests. Communicating with Frank was relatively easy as he was very honest and clear about the entire reservation process and costs. Frank will usually return calls or emails within a few days which was fine for us. The Captain and crew for our tour were excellent with all of our guests and handled the kids on board very well. The cruise was perfect and exactly as described. They let us play our own music since we rented the entire vessel. Dogs are allowed on the vessel which was so helpful and nice for us. Boarding/deboarding was easy even with elderly guests. Bathrooms are available on the vessel and were very clean. Zero complaints. Our tour went exactly as we planned and was a perfect way for us to end our wedding weekend with our guests. We had them dock in Alexandria which costs an extra $300 due to Alexandria Marina's docking fee but that's where we needed to start and end from so we did it. 3-hour minimum, which is fine and understandable. Whether you start/end in Georgetown or Alexandria, where they dock is right in the heart of everything so there's so many cool places to walk to from the start/end point. Highly recommend and I'll miss conversing with Frank.
Response: Thanks for your feedback Jeff! We’re glad we could provide a great experience for you and your guests! The kids made sure there were no Oreos left behind! 😂 Congratulations once again on your marriage!

Dance With De: Frank, Captain Bill and the Crew made my 50th birthday cruise a wonderful celebration! I did a private charter and my friends loved the 2 hour cruise! I was allowed to bring food and bottled water. I made a playlist that we all dance to, and the music level was perfect! It was such a fun, memorable birthday! Cruising by DC, the Kennedy Center, monuments and the wharf was wonderful, and seeing the beautiful sunset from the boat was gorgeous! I would definitely recommend Capital River Cruise!
Response: You all were a blast!! Glad we were able to provide a memorable birthday! Let’s do it again next year! 😀

Regina McCormick: Took a 3pm monument tour. The boat was great, bar options were nice, staff was helpful and friendly. The guided tour info were interesting, but sometimes it was unclear which building was being referred to. We Googled everything as we went to try and match things up. Would recommend to friends.
Response: Sometimes it can be difficult to time the narration just right. Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed your cruise!

    S. Haskins: We had an amazing time! We scheduled the Crab Boat for a ladies day out on the Potomac. The crew was very friendly and funny. The Captain played great music. The crabs were delicious! Even the side dishes were good. The weather was perfect. We would definitely cruise with them again.
Response: Our Crab Boat Charters are the best! Happy to hear your group had a great time and we hope to see you again this year!!

Nell L.: Interesting facts and a good timeframe (not too short or long) and price. The boat is small enough that there are no bad seats and great views. The wharf is a lively location for a meal, dessert and strolling.

Elvis Montenegro: We enjoyed the audio guided tour in early October, it was still warm and a great activity as the water on the Potomac was mellow. The tour lasts about 45 minutes or so, it goes down the river from Georgetown waterfront up to national airport before making a u turn and heads back to the same boarding area.
Response: We're glad you enjoyed your cruise and hope to see you again this year!

Supriya Foodie: Excellent customer service. We had booked a sunset cruise this past weekend in DC and we got thunderstorms and rain the same evening. Frank was understanding of the last minute cancellation and refunded our tickets immediately. While we missed the cruise this time, we’re customers for life! Thank you Frank!
Response: We hope to see you soon!

Ellis Jackson: Learned lots and enjoyed the weather and the amazing view...reasonably priced!
Response: Great pics!! Thanks for sharing! Glad you enjoyed your cruise!

Deborah Hawkes: Our family is in town for a get together and we couldn’t be more pleased with Captain Jack and his crew. Our private tour was so relaxing, informative, and great fun! I highly recommend Capitol River Cruises!!!
Response: You all were a very fun group! Come back and cruise with us anytime!!

Shoumit Karnik: Great cruises. Had a corporate dinner cruise here. Was amazing
Response: Thank you Shoumit! We hope to welcome you back for another great experience.

Sidney Wright: I have done three separate cruise events for large groups with Entertainment Cruises over the years. On this event, we were celebrating the retirement of my boss from the military. My first contact a year ago was with Captain Tim and that later led to a huge (200+) group cruise in Baltimore harbor and then this one which was a smaller (75) group in DC. Captain Tim is such a friendly ambassador for Entertainment Cruises and he has referred me to the great sales staff on both events. For this DC twilight monuments dinner cruise, we worked with Trina. She was so easy to work with and you just felt like you had known her all of your life! Trina helped us put together a super cruise package that was a send off for a military officer like none other I have ever had the pleasure to attend. A day before the cruise, they had a hiccup that was beyond their control and they quickly adjusted and maintained our night as one to be remembered forever! Mary followed up on our experience and she was awesome too! Great company, great people, great food, beautiful sights and a wonderful end to a 30+ year career for a great American! I will be back and there is no one else to even consider in my book! Cullen Wright

Steven: Bad experience. When a review was left, we were given vouchers... to which we never got a hold of anyone to setup a new cruise. Now the vouchers are expired and I’m left with a bad experience and useless vouchers. Thanks Mr. Leaman!
Response: Hi Steven - We appreciate you notifying us of the situation, and we apologize for your experience. In order to investigate this matter further, we’d like to contact you personally. Please reach out to us via guest.services@hornblower.com with your name, cruise confirmation number, and the contents of this review. Sherri S: We just celebrated the birthday of one of our co-workers here. It was very nice and staff were accomodating. The food quality literally surpassed my expectaion and we enjoyed every moment of our celebration here. Not good if you have motion sickness of course!

Scott Byrum: We booked a cruise to Mt. Vernon through Expedia. When we arrived we found out that the cruise ended on Labor Day and shouldn't have been booked. Everyone at Entertainment Cruises was extremely helpful. They offered us a full refund, apologized, booked a full dinner cruise and paid for our entry into the Washington Home place in Mt. Vernon. To top it all off, the GM personally drove us to Mt. Vernon. This was the best customer service I have seen in a long time. They turned a terrible experience into a wonderful one. Thank you Dan and staff for a great job.

Saundra Scott: Ship was glass all over , I was on the Odassy fantastic . the food and mimosa beverages where delicious where good, especially the mimosa punch. The singers and D J' s where lovely. I would go again

Bigheart521: Beautiful cruise, had excellent food, Crab Cakes were awesome. Excellent live entertainment, everyone was on the dance floor!!

Leonardo Castro: Odyssey Cruise Trips are luxurious and an awesome experience for out of towners. The food is delicious and the staff is nice/courteous.

Mikiyas Tadesse: Apparently the cruise might or might not happen, you need a plan B because they cancel it if enough people don’t buy tickets for the cruise you signed up for 😏

Embark DC Boat Tours: what do users think?

Patricia Sullivan: Captain Denny was amazing! Did some team bonding on one of his boats and it was a great time! His knowledge of the history of monuments and history in general while we cruised the channel was fascinating and enjoyable. Will definitely sail with Captain Denny again!

Jackie Johnson: I'm trying to find words to describe the most perfect tour by Embark! Our small 4 person group carefully chose Embark and they did not disappoint. Highly recommend Captain Denny for his professional company. Can't wait to do it again!!Jackie Johnson

John B: Captain Denny was a great tour guide and host! I proposed while on the boat, and Captain Denny had even thought to bring champagne which I hadn't had time to bring. Thanks Denny!

Ashley Badesch: We had such a lovely evening on Captain Denny's boat tour. He is super knowledgeable and has great facts and vignettes to share along the way. This is exactly what we were looking for for a fun and different experience, sightseeing and sipping wine out on the water. Watching the airplanes land at DCA from the channel was a definite highlight. Thanks Captain Denny!
Response: Thank you so much for taking time to provide a review here, Ashley. It was wonderful to have you all out in the boat for your tour on a great weather eve. Hope to see you again! Captain Denny

Lisa S.: Had the BEST boat tour with Captain Denny. My husband and I had our four nieces in town for memorial day weekend (ages 12 - 16) we wanted to show them DC and also avoid all the street closures and large crowds. This boat tour was perfect - the boat was amazing (comfortable, had shaded areas, drinks availble) and captain denny know EVEYTHING there is to know about DCs history. I would highly recommend this boat tour!
Response: Thank you for this wonderful review of your boat tour with us, Lisa! It was fantastic having you all out on the Potomac River. Glad you, your husband and nieces had a great time. Hope to see you again soon! Captain. Denny

Natasha Danielle: Nice boat tours for everyone!

Jaclyn Nathanson: We were fortunate enough to charter a 4th of July Cruise this year with Capt. Pete. Everything down to the weather was perfect and can't recommend the cruise enough. The tour, the food, the fireworks and the expertise of Capt. Pete made this an exceptional experience.
