Hop, Cask & Barrel: what do users think?

Jadon Marianetti: Fantastic selection of wines and spirits. Got all my favorite rare Eastern European wines ordered. Jared was super knowledgeable and helpful. Really great all-around experience. Ordered online, will be delivered to my house! Outstanding.

Adrienne Rogers: Love this place, they have every kind of booze... beer, wine, hard stuff, what ever suits your fancy they have !I especially like the low carb & no sugar added wine available, they do need to add more selections of this type though

Mark Freiheit: This is a fun-packed liquor store with all kinds of hard-to-get varieties. The seller for me was Appalachian Sippin Cream and Korean Soju. Hard to get, and both available at this liquor store that has the old-fashioned charm of a cozy book store.

Cal Roop: I should’ve read the reviews on this place, but I didn’t and I learned the hard way. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING ONLINE FROM Hop, Cask & Barrel. Seriously, they are inept and just blame it on COVID. Placing my order online was fine and they gladly took all my money for the order upfront. Problems started to occur when I didn’t get a shipment confirmation when promised. It took them days to respond to my emails and when they did, they blamed COVID and promised my order would ship out in the next 2 days. Then those 2 days passed and when I queried them, they then blamed their inventory problems on IT and said they couldn’t fulfill my order. They again made a hollow promise saying they would refund my money soon and of course they haven’t yet. This business cannot be trusted and will keep your money. Do yourself a favor and SHOP ELSEWHERE!

Brian S.: Do NOT order anything from this place. We placed an order thru them online for 6 bottles of a Columbia valley wine the Vivino app. It was $33 a bottle so a good high priced bottle. We opened up the first bottle and the smell was nasty. It smells like mold and mildew. It tastes exactly like mold n mildew also. Just not good. We contact this merchant to let them know as one would think they would care n want to know. But all the person did was defer us back to Vivino. He had NO interest in doing anything. He didn’t even ask the name of the wine. He wanted to do nothing. Totally unacceptable. So yes I will be contacting Vivino now and wanting a refund for whole order. We thought by contacting merchant maybe they would just send a replacement bottle from a different batch to make it easy. So now you can get a chargeback n we will make sure to NEVER buy a wine off of Vivino if this merchant is the seller of it! Beware of this merchant! They just don’t care!!

Todd Main: Great selection of bourbon! They had hard-to-find stuff in stock with very reasonable prices. A must visit if you are looking for high-end or hard to find liquor.

Harvey Mayorga: Great spot! And they carry one of my favorite Mezcal’s!! Los Javis

DVINES: what do users think?

Jack Nugent: Bought a growler here for my home brew kombucha, it was way cheaper than anything I could find online and the staff was very friendly. Will be coming back!

Adam Nothem: Great liquor store. They have a ton of options for a range of budgets and the beer growler machine is a true beauty. They also have tastings often. Stop in on a Friday evening and you might have the option to taste beers, whiskey, and wine all while grabbing a $9 sale growler to unwind with at home. Employees are very helpful and kind people.

Katy Swiere: Helpful and knowledgeable staff. But low rating because, in the midst of a pandemic and a DC mask mandate for indoor spaces, none of the staff were even attempting to wear masks. Really disheartening.

John Brisbane: Amazing selection of local beer and liquors. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Always get a great recommendation from this place for just about anything.

Kathryn Dreitzler: Okay spot if you need something in a hurry or enjoy beer. We just got engaged and went in for something to celebrate. I asked for something bubbly not to sweet and not to dry and they woman behind the counter noted that ‘bubbly things don’t come sweet’ and then proceeded to be on her phone the entire time we checked out. They lost out on a big potential order and I likely won’t come back for the pretentious staff.

The Bruery Store: what do users think?

Ed A: Great spot to pickup orders from preservation, reserve and hoarders society membership online orders or as a member of the public shopping for great beer and merchandise. There is now a custom draft system for crowler fills (never seen anything like it). Still no drinking on premises but that may change in the future. The people working there are helpful and efficient so go check it out. Cheers!

Matthew Maisano: The beer is amazing, but the staff is awesome as well. Won’t specify what, but they did me a solid when they didn’t have to and I appreciate that greatly.

Tommy Kromer: Fantastic people and fantastic beer! Been a member for a few years and that’s not going to stop!

Jacob Murphy: Love the tasting menu that they have here and the variety of quality brews!

James R: Among the best breweries in the country. The shop is a little out of the way and the people there can be a little surly or snobby (depending on the night) but overall, always a great experience.

Anne Johnson: They have an eclectic selection of beers. Their stouts are extremely smooth and tasty. I was a little disappointed that we pre-ordered, but when we got there we were told they were sold out. I believe if you pre-order they should hold for you until you pick it up.

Rudolf Kormos: Worst liquor store ever, rude employees bad selection

Miki Mi: Rude employees, no good selection

Jason Ponder: Limited selection and extremely overpriced. Strongly recommend going to one of the many other places for wine or beer. 4 pack of beer for $17, seltzer for $22. More than 10% over anywhere I have ever seen.

Benjamin Glaubinger: Inattentive employees and middling selection. Fine for grab and go but not much else.

Kirsten Spittel-Sloan: Good selection. Watch out on weekends as they do run out of stock on the basics.

andre holmes: Wonderful Selection of wine and beer from around the world!

Downtown Liquors: what do users think?

Alice: I moved into this neighborhood a few months ago. Downtown Liquors has definitely been one of my go-to spots for a chill night at home. It’s so convenient, has a tasty and wide selection, and amazing customer service. Perfect spot for a wine connoisseur, a casual enthusiast, and any occasion!

Neruda Williams: Went on my birthday this past Sunday April 24th and the owner Jaspreet was the best. Treated me just the way you want to be treated on your special day. Gave me a free bottle as a gift. Awesome store run by awesome people. 10/10 Would recommend.

Lisseth Leonzo-sosa: Absolutely a 5 star rating for appreciating and honoring Women day today 3/8/2022 with $.01 wine 🍷 for all of us beautiful and outstanding women. Can’t forget the exceptional service provided by the staff. Thank you!! Cheers !!

Brianna Stephens: Visited on International Women’s Day and got a bottle of wine for a penny! No purchase necessary! Of course I also still bought wine. The owner was super friendly and nice. Great experience!

Sina Shirazifard: The best selection of drinks, very cool and helpful staff. I’ve been going there for the past few years and never disappointed.

Urooj Arshad: They have a great selection and the staff is SUPER friendly!! Highly recommend.

Virginia Market: what do users think?

Neal: Virginia Market is a quaint little bodega with ice cold beverages, domestic and imported beers, chilled and at room temperature plus a nice selection of red and white wines from around the world. They also carry a wide assortment of low to high end liquors from absinthe to vodka. The woman behind the counter is friendly, timid and quiet. My quess is she doesn’t order or drink the products. She keeps the store very clean and locals love this great find.

Emi Ruff: Their wine is definitely on the higher end of the price range for a liquor store in DC, but they have a great selection of liquor, beer, and wine. The folks who work here are super friendly, and they have a nice little higher end snack selection too. I’m happy to live so close to it!

D Wise: Came here on Sunday and there was absolutely no customer service! The woman at the register just stared at me and my friends. It was a weird and awkward experience. I truly felt racially profiled. We left and went to another liquor store due to the uncomfortable experience. I was absolutely disgusted and cannot patronize an establishment where such behaviors are displayed!

Madeleine Mott: Always such a pleasant experience at Virginia market with Sue who makes sure the goods are in stock and serves with a smile!!! A must stop for your alcohol needs.

Peter Grant: Great service, great selection, great prices!! I’m always welcomed by Sue when I walk in. She keeps everything stocked and has a good selection of snacks as well!

Isaac Gilles: They have a great wine and craft beer selection, as well as a good liquor variety. High prices but worth it for what you’re getting!

Borys Pierov: Agree - great beer selection. They also have some nice wines. And all of that with reasonable prices!

Ashlie Bird: I love this neighborhood market, they always have exactly what I want and I can always find something new. However, the hours posted here on google are incorrect.

The Bottle Shop: what do users think?

Melyssa Harvell: Great experience! We stopped by the Bottle Shop to stock up our bar and Peter was very knowledgeable and gave us recommendations. There certainly are liquor stores closer to where we live, but we will go out of our way to visit the Bottle Shop again. This store has a variety of high-end liquor and Peter provided great customer service. It was close to closing and Peter gave us a full extra cake he had for a birthday party he was going to, just because he appreciated our business :)

Sophie Buskin: This place is great! I came in from out of town and asked for some recommendations. The friendly owner took his time helping me and I enjoyed everything that I purchased. 10/10 would go again!

Ailee Cho: Stopped by to purchase some bottles for the holidays. The store was super clean and had a wide selection of wine and champagne to choose from. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Manny Jimenez: Great selection of beers, spirits and wine. The selections of wine vary from top dollar to affordable. Great for buying bottles to gift or less expensive wines to mix for sangria. The staff is also very knowledgeable.

Chris Taylor: A good selection of liquor (and the staff really know their stuff and are always happy to see you). They have a decent selection of beers and wines too. Overall, they have what they need for an upscale neighborhood joint.

Nina DELHOMME: Not sure I understand the high rating, very poor selection of wine and beer, no advice whatsoever, it feels like you buy and pay then you are better off going to TJ or Wholefoods

Craft Beer Cellar DC: what do users think?

Christopher Weiss: Craft beer cellar DC is by far the best craft beer seller in the city. They have an amazing selection of craft beers and accessories. The proprietor is about the most learned beer master I’ve met. The store is impressive and easy to find with plenty of street parking nearby. I highly recommend visiting craft beer cellar DC anytime you’re near union station.

Rick Parent: Great selection and service. Staff personally helped me maximize the quality of my choices within 8.5L pre-duty allotment to take back home across the border. Only place in DC that sells singles as well supposedly...Super convenient.

Will Stallworth: Amazing place, and always a joy to visit. Very knowledgeable staff that is always willing to help you find new beers based off of your tastes. You can buy single cans to try things out, or get a 4/6-pack for those you love. They have a great selection of local DMV beers, as well as other large and small craft breweries from across the US and the world. They also have a fantastic selection of ciders and seltzers.

Chris Garcia (ColdHeart): Best place to buy craft beer in DC. They have a wide selection of local brews, craft beers from across the US, and international beers as well as cider, wines, and craft liquors. The staff are super helpful and are always happy to answer any questions or help you find something as well as give recommendations.

Batch 13: what do users think?

Ryan Rieboldt: Big moves, happened upon Batch 13 on accident and loved the selection and display! Surprised how many various beer options were available as well as the tequila and bourbon choices. If I’m ever back in the area will absolutely stop by to see what other goodies I can snatch up. Cheers!

Dave: Best liquor store in DC. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Great selection with some rare finds I could not find anywhere else in NW.

Alessandro Pisi: The staff is amazing and the selection they have is wild I have found bottles that I never thought would be outside of their country of origin (scapegrace NZ) a little to over priced but worth it for the selection, would not suggest shopping for a party but more for your own personal collection

Patricia Pappan: My go to liquor store with the best selection. The employees are always very helpful and friendly. George ordered me a specific bottle I was having a hard time finding. Many thanks

Oliver Peña-Habib: One of the best selections in the city, for both wine and spirits. From awesome natural wines from Georgia (yes, the country Georgia) to fancy mezcal and chile liqueurs from Mexico — this is your 14th St go-to. Compared prices with other wine stores in the neighborhood and this was much better. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help.

Sturg E: Miguel was most helpful and patient while assisting us to find the right Mezcal. Thanks Miguel!!

olebirddog theroofer: Batch 13 owner was really weird and creepy towards me and I would not shop at this liquor store again. The long haired guy at the corner was really nice and helpful, but the two morbidly obese men were extremely creepy following me around the store and never taking their eyes off me. Stay away from the creepers at Batch 13. Look at the other reviews, as they all tell the same story over a long period of time--Batch 13 owners are totally creepy! Stay away!

Darlene jackson: 8/27/21, visting from NY I decided to stop in looking for HENDRICKS GIN and to my surprise they had 3 selections 2 were specified as " Lunar & Orbium" The attendant commented that they come out once a year with the 2 selections and they go fast so I bought the 2 new selctions to take back to NY.

Brian Nelligan: Amazing selection and knowledgeable staff, great spot for whiskey and wine!

Marian Dvorak: This is our go-to best wine and liquor store! The staff is so nice and there is always a tasting which is fun. High recommend!!

Cordial at the Wharf: Craft Wine, Beer and Spirits: what do users think?

Jennifer Kuzara: Stopped in this evening after dinner nearby. I won’t be back. I thought about picking up a bottle of red wine and asked for a recommendation. I said I liked things on the tannic/meaty side with notes of cedar. He said “how much are you looking to spend? That sounds pricey.” Which seemed like an odd thing to say about a single tasting note. I said “Do you have any French Malbecs?” because those tend to be right up my alley, especially when I’m looking for something at a specialty shop. He tried to tell me French Malbec grapes only exist in Bordeaux blends and not as a single origin wine. Which is nonsense, of course, but was also nonsense delivered with a big dose of mansplaining. No need to return to this place. I don’t need to be scoffed at when buying wine, but especially not by someone who doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about.

Lee: Does not carry typical brands, but an interesting selection of liquor that might convince you to buy local or just a different brand. Also has a fridge with a small selection of cold beer, cider, and mead (also mostly local). Decorative wine selection but higher price points than I typically partake in.

Amruta Ghate: Expected to pay Wharf prices but found a nice bottle of tequila for ~$30 thanks to the guy working at the desk.

j m: Would probably have a better store if the service wasn’t so pretentious and actually wanted to educate their customers. Not sure why a “craft” store would scoff at ignorance. Just go up a few blocks to Harry’s tbh

Chandra Clark: Worst customer service ever! I felt the need to validate my purchasing power as I was snubbed from the time that I walked into the door. Word to the staff, treat all patrons with respect regards of race. This visit will not sour my love for visiting DC.

Brittany M: Uncle Nearest was perfect for pur Juneteenth celebration 🍾

C Leo: Nice selection of wines and other spirits. Except for David, the person promoting two French wines, the staff there were not very knowledgeable or helpful. The lady at checkout did not give me a receipt for my purchase until I asked for it.

Danielle Pittwood: Very helpful! Lovely service. Thank you!

Arun Vishwanathan: Awesome place with amazing prices!!Don’t miss out :-)

Brian Houchens: Don’t call to ask whether or not a product is still there. Very rude and horrible customer service. I’m a business owner and wouldn’t mind how many times a customer calls to inquire about a product being in stock. Avoid this store. It’s plenty other stores whether better prices and customer service.

Eric Stander: Nice liquor store. Vary large variety of drinks. Average prices

Ryan Conklin: Good location and hours for convenience, poor selection, prices, and service. Worth stopping by if other local options are closed

Joseph Althouse: Great selection of wines. Had exactly what I was looking for at a fair price. Very pleasant and polite.

Michael Kieval: Great selection, friendly service, but the prices for many things are on the high side. If you are looking for a special bottle, however, you came to the right place.

Joseph Lira: Such a great store! Amazing and rare selections. The staff are knowledgable, very friendly and sincere.

Just Me N mines: Ohhh this place has everything. Literally. One of my go to spots when I come back to DC.

Jaime D: They had what I needed. Love me some grapefruit SOJU.

J B: I came in for a hard to find tequila that was sold out in 8 other stores (including Total Wine and More). I called ahead and received really pleasant service by phone and when I arrived at the store, the on-site friendliness and accommodating service was more than I could ask for. Most liquor stores don’t exactly strive to be leaders in customer service so you definitely notice the difference between stepping foot in one that could care less that you’re there and one that has an interest in you leaving as a happy customer. I’ll definitely be back.

Eye Street Cellars - Fine Wine, Spirits, & Beer: what do users think?

Your Helpful Wendy: After so many days with Covid we finally were able to drink! And I went to the store right across the street so I can get some wines and spirits. They have a huge variety of wine and all type of spirit with OK prices not the best but they were OK. I end up buying a rosette for less than $10 and that’s a bargain honesty! Service was quick and I pay with my credit card super fast.

Marco Da Silva: I wanted to purchase 2 bottles of bourbon. I did my due diligence and checked their online inventory. It showed that the 2 bottles were in stock. I then placed the order only for the order to be cancelled. When I called the store I was informed that the bottles were being kept for their “loyal” customers. Why advertise the bottles as available if they are being kept for people. I have spent a significant amount of money at this store but will definitely will not be returning as they obviously have a different definition of customer service.

Ravelle Brickman: I like ordering online, but have been unable to find any of my favorite wines on this website. I hope the owners can expand or improve the site, since it is currently incomplete. In fact, it appears that many of the wines stocked at the stores are not even listed on the site!

notarzt911: Amazing selection of beer. Lots of fun imports. Will definitely be back.

Jana: The Eye Street Cellars is a beautiful store. They have a wonderful selection and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. The modern look of the store is inviting and their shelves are well organized. They have tasting event that give you a chance to try something new, try before you buy :) watch their website for those events.

Aishya Malhotra: I love this store! They have complimentary tastings every Fri & Sat and some on Thurs. I stopped in this past weekend for the tastings and they had a customer appreciation BBQ and gave me a cool straw hat!! Great selection and prices/deals!! Love Eye St Cellars.

Devin M: Great selection of wine and spirits at reasonable/market prices. The staff is friendly and helpful and if you have a specific wine that they do not carry they likely will order it for you.

Daily 14 Liquors: what do users think?

Brandon Harrison: J’s store is awesome! I’m always greeted with a smile and it’s typically a pleasant experience each time i stop by. Plus, Daily 14 carries some of the best hard to get wine and spirits in the city!

ELP: Live well outside of DC and was looking for something very specific. Inquired about price and whoever answered the phone refused, stating, “No price over phone.” Why would I drive all that way there having no idea how much something is going to cost. It’s called sales for a reason, you want to actually sell liquor right? Called the next store on the list, was given a price and the very nice woman even set aside the bottle for us. That would be customer service, not whatever your doing!

Griffin Baltz: We were staying at the Kimpton Donovan next door and read some good reviews about this place’s whiskey selection. We swung by to check it out and they actually had Buffalo Trace, which has been impossible to find around Maryland! I’d have given five stars for that alone, but the cashier was also very nice.

孙文佳: The service is wonderful and I ask many questions. The owner is so kind! They have all kinds of liquor even some rare ones. I brought a Japanese whiskey for my dad for his birthday. Great experience!

Indonesian Goddess: New to the area and conveniently found Daily 14 Liquor. The owner is friendly, store is well organized, and not to mention their very rare and special selections. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Gary Moore: It is a great store and the owner is the best. I was driving all over Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia looking for rare bourbons. I went to this store and found EVERYTHING I wanted and they have them for decent prices. I HIGHLY recommend this store to everyone!!

Brian Sanchez: Awesome management. Very friendly and serviceable. One of the most extensive whiskey selections in the downtown/14th st area. I saw a bottle of the Black Maple Hill Bourbon and Rye! Those bottles are of legendary status in the whiskey world. Great wine selection from multiple areas of the wine world. Best of luck to Daily 14 and please keep up the great service!

Peter Warner: Excellent selection of whiskies. I was surprised to see and pick up two unique bottles. One a Weller 12 yr and one a Weller Full Proof that recently was released. Friendly owner and very helpful.

MATT ZEPP: Great store in DC! Large selection of collector bourbon, scotches, and whiskeys. Friendly service and fair prices. Will definitely come back and keep shopping here.

District Liquors: what do users think?

Sam and Steph: We purchased liquor for our wedding at District Liquors and had a very positive experience. The staff was very accommodating and professional, the selection was very good, and prices were competitive.

Sam OB: The best price in town. Sean is also a good owners and dedicated staff.

Matthew Ryan: This store was recommended to me as a must-stop during my visit to the area and I have to say this store blew me away. The bourbon selection was incredible and the prices were even better. I had previously heard that DC liquor stores jack up the prices but that is not the case in this store. I picked up several bottles that I can’t find in North Carolina, all at MSRP. I will definitely be a customer here on all future visits to DC.

Chad Erickson: Surprisingly reasonable pricing and a good selection of wines.

Joe Dean: Fantastic prices!!! Very polite staff and by far the best pricing I’ve found in DC!!! Highly, highly recommend stopping by this place!! Especially if you’re looking for a wide selection of bourbon!!!

Nadine LeGrand: My favorite Liquor store to go to on 11th Street NW. Sean the owner friendly who always acknowledges his customers give a variety of beer, wine, liquor specials by far on the NW side.

Mark Smith: Good people there and they carry what you ask for.

Ilsy Marilyn: The owner is so awesome!!!!!! The services and friendliness is appreciated. Thank you for being there and providing a safe environment for DC residents. There are so many liquor shops in the district as we all know. But is nice to know that some business owners, despite the business they offer, they take pride in becoming friends and good neighbors to the city.

C A: I live close to a few liquor stores but this is my favorite. Great prices, selection and service. They are knowledgeable as well if you need help with wine selection or pairing.
