natalie: I always love going here. The students and staff are pleasant, I really enjoy the way they compliment one another,that can be so important to a person to hear that someone liked what they did or what they are doing. A compliment can go a long way.

R.L. D: This place apparently passes off your social and any other information that you give the to a third party. I moved from another state and had to get my id mailed to the new state that I moved to and I has a Maryland address. They said 5 different reasons that why my identification was no good and apparent it was. The “third” party service that they use without permission because I never signed any paperwork giving the Bennett career institute permission to send my sensitive information to a party of people that has nothing to do with this establishment. I pray that there is no fraud on my credit and social. I do not know who this processor is and nor will “doctor” Bonita branch, nor will the head of administrations at this office provide me with who these people are. This school is extremely fishy and if you value your personal information don’t apply or go to this school.

Wendy W: I have been coming here for years; the students change and so have the instructors, BUT the level of professionalism and quality of service has not. Their work often surpasses profession beauty salons which are much pricier. You get a great deal in a real quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Schiieyenne Parker-Bowser: Ms. Polite is rude as hell. I called a phone number that my child called me from and asked a question and she got so rude. She is a supposedly student at the Bennet Hair School/Institute on Monroe street in DC. I was disrespected and rudely treated. She is not someone to go to to get her hair done, if that’s her real name. To be polite is totally different from what this person gave, horribly disrespectful.

Tracy Cross Lucas: Always have a great experience here except after COVID. Website is NOT updated. Went after taking Friday off to be informed that I needed an appointment-not on website-other services, like eyebrow waxing are not offered-COVID and not listed on website AND they are now closed on SATURDAY. I was informed this by the woman at the service window. Please update the site. Another person walked in after me, without an appointment, and had to go through the same ordeal. That sucks.

Sandra Jenkins: Got to my appointment early. Staff was kind enough to start servicing me before my scheduled appointment. Due to shortage of students staff pitched in to service clients. Got finished in very timely manner.

Frank Fasi: Made an appointment two hours earlier online. Showed up about 20 minutes early, but was ready to go in 10. I had Thomas cut my hair. I went in wanting to try something new, so I left it up to him to decide how to cut it. Thomas made a plan and talked me through exactly what he was going to do, then he got started. He took the time to make sure everything was trimmed to perfection. Ended up with a tapered combover. He even lined up the sides. Excellent haircut, and it was my first one in months. The true barbershop interior and jazz music added to the experience. Well worth the price (around $50 is what I spent, including tip). Best part, they actually take cash or card, so no need to deal with all the hassle other places might put you through just to pay. All around, a fantastic first haircut in DC. Definitely will be going back again to Thomas in the future! Service: Haircut

Shawn Malik: The owner and Fernando who cut my hair were extremely welcoming and professional. I ended up being more than an hour early for my appointment and they accommodated me without hesitation. craig pettigrew: Called Rick about getting haircuts and shaves for a group of groomsmen prior to a wedding, and he went out of his way to take care of us. I got my haircut and shave from Thamir, and he did a phenomenal job. He got us looking sharp before our friends big day. Great experience all around.

However, I was completely saved by the skilled work of Thamir Zeyada, who did an incredible job fixing my hair and gave me the best hair cut I have received in years. Xevian: If I can give a zero star I would. The barber that cut my hair completely messed up my hair. He had no idea of what he was doing. He cut my hair so short that I can see my scalp despite I repeated told him my requirement!! And on top of that my hair is uneven on each side!!! I don’t know how I am going to show up for work now. I lost it on him! I will not go back to this place again! Someone like him should not be a barber! My wife can do a better job!!

Ahilan Amirthanayagam: I spoke to the owner, Rick, on the phone before coming in to the shop. I told him that I wanted to get a beard trim and he told me that I should book an appointment with Fernando. I was surprised by the time and care Fernando took with my beard as well as the service he provided. This was in the top three of my experiences with a quality beard trim and I recommend you to see Fernando if you want a professional touch up.

C J: I wanted to enroll in the Esthetician program so I booked an appointment online. Its close to my home so I thought it would be convenient. The next day after I booked the appointment, some woman texts me and asked me to call her about what I would need for financial aid. I haven’t even had a tour of your school. I want to see what you can offer me before I even consider enrolling and applying for financial aid. The next 3 days I received calls, 2 before 8am. First of all, its extremely rude to be callin my phone that early. Like, please lemme have some coffee first! If I book an appointment, wait till I get there to ask me questions and talk about enrollment. After she called me today at 7:40am I just said forget it and cancel my appointment. If you’re hounding me before I get there, I don’t want to be pressured to enroll after my visit. It sucks because this would have been a good option for me but again, I don’t need any pressure especially right now in my life.

Camille Abdulla: My mother comes here every now and then when she doesn’t want the hassle of doing her own hair and I take good detail of the work done on her. If your looking for a simple blow out you may have SOME luck but the students need more education on cutting. My mother received a sloppy poorly done hair cut and she let me know that the educators were satisfied, the cut was uneven, choppy and blunt, to my surprise it was done by hand, the student obviously needs better sheers and to map better guidelines throughout the cut so it’s not so patchy. The hair definitely gained more weight but it needs to be even inside and out. This is an educational institution which itself needs more education and more of a modern touch to hair unfortunately.

Aleah Proctor: My mom and I went here and we were told by the instructor to brush our own hair. We explained to her that our hair cannot be brushed dry and and asked why someone can’t detangle our hair after washing it. She proceeded to tell us that we needed our hair brushed before coming and that we can go back home brush it and then come back. The owner told my mom that she wouldn’t be able to get through her hair because of the texture but she could probably brush through mine. She has 4c hair by the way worst experience we ever had never coming there again!

Diane Wallace: Great place. Took my sister there to get her hair cut. The young lady who cut and styled her hair was very professional. My sister has MS and Ivy, the stylist was very patient and gentle with her. Ask for Ivy 😊

Kayla Wilson: I went there to get me hair done and the women did a absolutely terrible job. I have 4b kinky curly hair. First she tried to bristle brush through my dry kinky hair hurting me in the process. When washing my hair she soaked my back. During blow-drying instead of going tip to root and detangling from the bottom she viciously rip through my hair. When I told her she was hurting me she asked “what do you mean”. She then proceeded to continue ripping through my hair harder than she did before. When flat ironing she was rushing( the instructor told her to slow down several times) and didn’t the ends of my hair properly. Did not pay attention when the instructor tried to give constructive criticism she was looking away. It’s been one hour now and My hair is now puffy and some of my curls are now showing again.

I wasted 2 and half hours sitting here to get my hair done only to be told when I asked, “we are still waiting for someone who could do the style you requested’ What a shame. They even asked me to cross my name and leave if I don’t want it. Save your time and money and go where it’s professional. Bad experience. Very rude and unprofessional. Hair done here don’t even last a week

ashley ferman: Where do I even begin. I graduated the esthetics program not too long ago and have so much to say about the Paul Mitchell in Rockville. To start off, the school lacks so much supplies. It would take weeks for them to even restock our products. You would literally have to nag and nag for you to get products. Most of the facial steamers in my class we’re broken, and they were always dirty. The school itself is so outdated. During the summer time, stink bugs would infest the school, you would be getting a facial done, and they would just land on your chest. Don’t get me started on the teachers. My class went through 5 different teachers just in the 9 months we were there. None of the teachers are on the same page. They get no training at all when they are hired. They are all teaching different things. You can tell there is no curriculum they follow because one teacher would tell you one thing, and the other would tell you something else. I had a teacher one time tell our class that she doesn’t even know how this school is even open because of how bad it is. Out of that whole school, there was ONE good teacher named Ms. Billy that actually helped my class out. All in all, if you’re thinking about doing any program, I highly consider you looking somewhere else.

Kathy Parrent: Too slow! Just spent 2 hours and 20 minutes while a student hair cutter futzed around trying to cut my hair. She was supposed to be supervised by an experienced working stylist, but that person disappeared and another was occupied. It was only $12 and I knew the risk of getting a bad hair cut — which it is — but I hadn’t eaten lunch because I figured it would take an hour at maximum. So my blood sugar was dropping by the minute and I finally said, “I haven’t eaten. I’ve been here way too long. I’m leaving!” I have a Dutch Boy haircut (told them specifically I didn’t want that, but the second supervisor didn’t know what it meant!) with the cowlick in my bangs on prominent display after discussing that at length with the cutter and first supervisor! I recognize the students are learning, but somebody should have noticed how long I was there! My husband got a cut in 20 minutes!

Elizabeth Pavlov: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueBest facial ever today with Antonella. With her excellent care I had a Specialty Facial and it was dreamy! Antonella is the sweetest and most educated esthetician and made the whole experience very relaxing. She will go above and beyond to make sure you will come out renew and glowing from your facial!

Dame Lorraine: Ed is the only person I trust for a haircut. Unfortunately, they no longer take clients. I’m also a past student here :)

Jessica Cruz: During my time at Montgomery Beauty school so far Ms. Roe has made it a great learning environment and very efficient and productive. Ms Roe is always ready to teach and help you with any challenges during class. Ms Nelvi is always kind and available to answer any questions we might have. Overall a great learning experience. :)

Bria Renee: I just want to acknowledge Mia. I was there for almost three hours and had plans to be somewhere at a certain time. The stylist that was doing my hair needed much assistance. The instructor wasn’t helpful at all, and she knew my situation. Mia stepped up and helped. I really appreciated that and wanted to recognize her for that.

Easter U. Obioha: Nobody here knows how to do Afro kinky-coily hair. When I walked in there were these three students commenting on my hair, and not in a good way. The only people who seem to have an idea of what to do are the instructors, and they aren’t responsive when a student is doing something wrong. They had no heat protectant, didn’t detangle my hair before washing, and it resulted in way more breakage than needed. I also have major heat damage. I’m very concerned about students not knowing how to do Afro textured hair and still being able to graduate from the school. If you’re a natural 4c texture, I wouldn’t even bother. The only black people in the institution were the instructors, and they didn’t even care to check up on me. Overall I am very disappointed with my experience. It could’ve been a learning opportunity for the entire school. The instructors could’ve used my hair and demonstrated the do’s and don’ts of black hair.

Yohance Campbell: Yeah, it was my first time there perhaps I’m just not familiar with operations. However, when I arrived an argument broke out between one of the teachers and the receptionist. In addition to the cold temperatures in the school. But, my biggest issue was the two lock twist hair style I care in for. Which should’ve involved a simple maintenance twist followed by the two lock twist. The student did my entire hair wrong, so all my twist fell out / unraveled by the time I got home. The students issue was she did not two loc twist in the “opposite” direction of the maintenance twist. If the maintenance twist is twisted in the same direction as the two loc twist, the two loc twist will not hold. This was later found on YouTube by me later that night. I ended up twisting my hair myself with that approach provided by YouTube and it worked perfectly. My twists never fell out. What was really annoying was the student complained to me that my twist were not staying in. She shared comments that there is something wrong with that top of my hair, because none of the twist she’d done would stay in. Rather not listen to defensive complaints that my hair doesn’t work right, when I’ve had the style before without any issue. That just didn’t make sense to me, especially when YouTube is gives everyone the answers. Let me know if you want to remove the above details that’s why I didn’t explain publicly my issues.

Akbar Danesh: This is my second time here. Kevin was good last time, but he was not there today. His colleague ruined my hair totally. He never used scissors at all, just trimming all around. I could do it at home by myself. His first question was where am I from?I think he works based on the origin of the customer. If I knew that what would he is going to do with my hair, I never answered him. He also charged me extra than before!

Rana Singh: Just moved to the area and needed a haircut. I’m picky about my hair since it’s wavy/slightly curly and I get a low fade as well, so I was skeptical. I haven’t had a bad experience with a haircut before until my visit here. Firstly, it felt like the haircut could have been 20 minutes long instead of 50. The guy was needlessly cutting/trimming random areas of hair all around my head. Also, he began cutting the hair on top of my head with a trimmer as is, without combing it out to understand my hair’s length. He pulled random curls and cut the end off, but never uniformly. I thought it was common knowledge that cutting curly/very wavy hair while dry is a big no-no, but apparently not. When I asked him to please wet my hair and cut it using scissor sections by section, he told me that “isn’t the right way” and “that way is for women” even though I’ve had it cut only that way my entire life (listen to your customers and don’t gaslight them, it goes a long way). I decided against arguing with him since the damage was already done. Lastly, the fade is uneven and blended poorly into the bulk of my hair. It only looked worse once I got home and checked it out in the mirror. If you require a simple haircut, give this place a try at your own risk. If you have textured hair and want something that isn’t basic, don’t waste your time and money going here. Service: Haircut

Kevin Martin: Had a great hair and beard cut by Kevin! Great value, and an outstanding cut. True barber skills with good fade and straight razor work. Only item of note was that I used the online reservation system, and it was not being used in the shop. Definitely walk-in, first come; first served style. Worked out the same time wise this time. However the cut and service more than make up for any technology issues.

Paige Lieberman: I took my 4yo daughter here for a basic haircut. They advertise kids cuts, but be warned that it is only for boys. As soon as we walked in, Jenny said “no, I won’t do this,” which made my already nervous preschooler even more so. I said it was just a basic cut, and she did a straight trim across the back but refused to wash it or do anything to the front of her hair. She also seemed to have no experience working with kids. I could have done a better job myself. Also, one of the male staff was walking around without a mask. Will not return.

Mohy Omer: I experienced racist comments after being told to wait for 40 minutes. The dude said he didn’t want to do my hair because he was afraid to mess it up. I wasn’t offended by that comment until he said that he charged $35 dollars for a cut, insinuating that I couldn’t afford it. I nicely told him that I 100% would pay him and even tip him big if he gave me a good cut. And then, he said I should go to a solan that does black people hair. I will never go back and I don’t think anyone should support such a business in this neighborhood or anywhere in this country.

Megan John: This place is SO much better than Aurora down the street and 1/4-1/3 the cost. Don’t follow around the Immortal Beloved rejects - they think they’re amazing but their 15-min hair cuts are completely subpar. JC is my go-to.

MR Outdoor: I took a waxing class here last year. They told me , I can take extra class if I miss any class or I can’t pass the exam. Even they called me every day before a due date while I have balnce due of fees. Later on I got pregnant and had baby, so I missed classes but they never called me. They just care money , they don’t care their student. 1 month after I had baby I went there to take class but they ask me full fee again, I told them that I was pregnant and had baby but they didn’t listen. Also , be careful they charge fee differently.
Response: Hi, We have a leave of absence policy that is explained to each student in orientation. You must have a documented LOA to miss classes. Even though, you didn't take the appropriate action, you were still allowed to re-enroll and continue due to your circumstances.

Nathan Maynes: I love this barber shop. The barbers are all very nice, parking is easy, the online appointment system is super convenient, and they get me in and out quickly. He is also easy to talk to which makes the experience great. This place does not have TVs going with ESPN or the news humming in the background. Joel Maiman: Have been coming here for a while, all the barbers are highly competent. Except, today I walk in and get a barber I’ve never seen before. She seemed like she had never cut hair before. Botch very simple short-sides, long on top haircut. I had lines in the side of my head that looked like Neapolitan ice cream. What really gets me is that she had no awareness of her incompetence. It’s one thing to be a novice and communicate that to your client beforehand; but to continue forging ahead when you are clearly not up to the job is disrespectful. She was ready to let me walk out looking ridiculous. Luckily, the barber next to us stopped her and took over, quickly trying to save what she had done. I came here in the past because I could walk in and be confident that the barber I got would give me a great haircut. Sad to learn that this is no longer true.

Great (pleasant and friendly but not overwhelming) conversation, extremely skilled barbers, warm towels, straight razor cuts, hair washes… you name it, GQ has it! Ryan Harris: Excellent location with a really cool vibe. Scheduling an appointment online was easy. Arrived 10 minutes early and was immediately guided upstairs, where I was offered a drink. Nice touch. Elizabeth was awesome and was far more skilled than the 4 other barbers I have been to in this town. The service included a cut, shampoo, conditioning, warm shaving cream razor, blow dry, and styling product. Everyone was kind and relaxed. Things to know: 1. Twice as expensive as other barbers in town but also twice as good and you don’t walk out covered in hair, feeling itchy and like you need to take a shower 2. They do not accept Amex (found out the hard way) 3. There is no option to tip if you pay with card, so you need to bring cash (wish I had known ahead of time since I do not carry cash) — would be nice if they all had Venmo QR codes or something! Joseph Benitez: So the staff that actually perform all the treatments are absolutely great. I cannot say enough good things about them. I’ve never had a bad experience with them; Fifi especially is wonderful. However, I have to say the front desk attendants I’ve dealt with there constantly come across as rude and very uninviting. Last week I was there on a Wednesday afternoon and received a facial treatment and when I asked about leaving a tip with my credit card the woman waved me off and sounded annoyed at me for even asking almost like she was scolding me. I’m not an employee there I’m a client so I found that type of response to be incredibly unprofessional especially since I just spent over a hundred dollars that day and have been going there for years. Gary Seybold: New to the area so I needed a place to get my hair cut. Since Roosters was very close I decided to try them out. Making the appointment via their website was easy and convenient. I arrived a few minutes early not knowing what to expect. There was no one at the front desk but a stylist just told me to have seat - not much of a welcome! My stylist came over after about 5 minutes, introduced herself and walked me over to her station. She asked me what I was looking for and started cutting. She was very pleasant and spoke throughout my appointment. My haircut was great and done within the 30 minute time slot. I’ll come back given the convenient location.

Ty Ackerman: This is a salon that caters to the male client. When I think of a standard “barbershop” I think of it being very limited in terms of services and basically only offers haircuts and shaving. I would consider this a salon due to the fact that each hair cutting station has it’s own built in sink right behind the chair for washing your hair and conditioning it during the cutting service. Being that this business caters to the male client, they have a shaving cream warmer for the back of your neck and uses a straight razor to get a super close cut for the hairs on the back of your neck- and this is included in the standard haircut. I called in the evening (maybe around 6-7pm) asking if I was able to get a haircut that night and they were happy to squeeze me in at 8:30pm even though they were closing at 9:00pm, which was super awesome. Something that really stood out to me in a wonderful way was when another employee walked up to my stylist as she was cutting my hair and said to me, “I’m going to talk to her in Vietnamese for just a second, but I don’t want you to think I’m talking about you” which just made me feel like they really cared how I (as their client) felt and that they wanted me to be comfortable and feel welcomed. I wouldn’t have been offended in the first place, but just the fact that she addressed me in the first place made me feel welcomed and that they cared about what I thought. I would have to say that Rooster’s has gained a long-term client in me because I was so impressed with my first experience with them. You guys are great! I can’t wait to come back!

Dave: This place lost me as a customer before I even got my hair cut. I came in today trying to do a walk in around 3:00pm and they were busy so the offered me an appointment at 4:30pm. I accepted it and went home. I came back to this shop at 5 minutes prior to my appointment. The stylist that I had my appointment with told me that she was double booked. The front desk person booked me for 4:30pm and someone else went in and made an online appointment, so they decided to put me lower on the priority. I asked the stylist how long would it take before I could be seen and she told me 20 minutes. I reluctantly accepted. Then I saw the stylist ask another stylist to squeeze me in. I heard another stylist say “lucky he’s willing to take on someone else.” I had a feeling that I was not going to been seen in 20 minutes. Then the front desk person ask me to come up and pay in advance so she could close out the cash drawer since I would be there after their closing time. I told her that I would pay after I receive the hair cut. Overall for a place that was going to charge me $40 for a haircut, I expected that they would keep the appointment I made with them. I wasted an hour of travel time making two trips to this location, and another 20 minutes of sitting there after they had the gall to try and have me pay up front before I receive the service. I really dislike having my time wasted, and if I was told upfront that they were too busy and they wouldn’t be able to see me today I would have been okay with that. Also they had my contact info as well so if they did their due diligence and saw they double booked I could have been told prior to making the second trip up.

Anthony Reindhardt: I went here three times. 1st and 2nd visits got great results. On my last visit I chose the woman who cut my hair and shaved me on my second visit. Sadly she rushed the process telling I should book double the time. I have no issues paying the price and tipping for their service. But the bad job that was done on my third visit turned me off. I would never go back. The service I received on my third visit from hairstylist was not acceptable. Services: Haircut , Beard trim , Shave
Response: Sincerely apologize for your experience. It would help us if you could describe what we did well in the first two visits. BTW our every service is 30 mins and sometimes customers add service at the last min. I understand that the stylist could have said no but they want to make sure the customer leaves happy and in that they forget that they are late for the next customer. David Drawbaugh: Do not let Farid cut your hair. Despite giving him clear, detailed instructions about what I wanted, and showing him several reference photos, he gave me the worst haircut I have ever received in my adult life. It was shockingly, laughably bad, and not at all what I asked for. I’ve been a regular patron of this barbershop for nearly two years, and have received some good haircuts there (particularly from Diane and Serenity), but I will not be coming back because of Farid. You have lost a loyal customer because of Farid.

Richard M: Most of the stylists there are really good. They will offer wash and eyebrow/eat detail. Cash only place. Probably the best service you can get for $30 in the Dupont area.

Vaibhav Hans: Amazing place to get your haircut. They truly care, and have great attention to detail. Cash-only, still the same $25 quality cut. Definitely a DC staple!

Nigel Gould-Davies: Came here many times during my US stay. Always reliable and excellent value. They are all good, and Esmi is great.

Apratim Sathe: Orville Haye is truly a master of his craft. The barbershop itself is extremely clean and cultured. It has a positive mellow vibe due to the artwork and music. He is extremely attentive and detail-oriented and makes sure he gives you the cut you want every time. His diverse clientele shows that he welcomes all types of customers. (Check out his IG page to see his work) Orville is also a great example of someone adapting to the COVID situation the right way - he checks your temperature before you walk in and takes all the necessary safety precautions administered by Maryland state health guidelines. Easily the best barber in the DMV!!! His reviews speak for themselves. Tip: Because of this, he fills up FAST. Make sure to book appointments online in advance.

Gabriel Ramos: As a first time customer, I was very happy with the service. Very friendly and comfortable environment. Lex was awesome! Explained that I was looking for a new barber and was very welcoming. Asked a lot of questions in order to get my ideal haircut style. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a new barber. Parking is right in front of the shop. Easy to find when following directions.

Ryan Flynn: Decided on Groomed by Haye based off of reviews. Made an appointment through the website with ease. The shop is tucked away behind the post office, but has a very welcoming feel to it. Sai was very friendly, and asked questions throughout to ensure I got the cut that I wanted. She took pictures outside of the shop afterwards, which was fun (but I am far from a model). Fantastic first experience, and I will definitely be returning! I highly recommend to all!

lakea burke: I would say that this place is very professional. For my first experience I would say it was great . The young lady who did my hair did a fantastic job . Her name is Alesha . She took her time and really focus on her style. Her instructor also did a great job supervising/teaching her . I was very happy and please with her service. I will definitely go back again . 😀

Katrina Jones: I’ve attended this school for cosmetology. The school stay clean , even the bathrooms and classrooms , and they are very well organized. When I first started it was a little frustrated because the teacher at the time would show favoritism between the students. Then she was fired and we had 2 teachers enter the building. All I can say is that they are 2 of the most wonderful teachers I’ve had. They respect their students, and they believe in their students. I would recommend this school for anybody who’s looking to become a cosmetologist or a barber .
